Seen a few of these threads over the years.. but now that I've actually gone and bagged myself a second-hand deal, thought I'd start a thread for everyone to share their own lucky bargains.

The other day on Ebay I noticed some chap was selling:
- 12 Khorne Berzerkers
- 20 CSM's
- Terminator Lord
- Daemon Prince

For £30 at buy it now. RRP that's nearly £100.

What bargains have you lot come across then?

Found a plastic LOTR Balrog still in the shrink wrap at my local model shop for about £10. Yeah, I went and swapped it at the local GW...

Forgive my LOTR ignorance, but why did you swap a Balrog you got for so cheap?

A little while ago I got 50 of the old Legion of the Damned models for $120. Including a complete box set. The boxed sets alone sell on Ebay for more than that usually. Now I just need 5 more variations for a complete set.

I just got a 'faulty' PSP from cash convertors for £10. Home 10 mins and found the problem was the down button being pushed during game play. 10 mins of fiddling with the analogue stick and I now have a working PSP

I bought 25 hammerers and 25 ironbreakers from a guy for 60 bucks each, 30 of each arrived at my door...30 hammerers and 30 ironbreakers would have cost me 502 bucks...thats the first time I added that up. Hot damn.

Yeah, my mate did that a couple of weeks ago. He found a load of unopened LOTR stuff in his house and swapped it in for a Tervigon, some Hive Guard, Zoanthropes a box of Termagants and some paint.

Hm.. I'll have to keep an eye out for unopened kits in charity shops and sales then.

Found £25 last weekend in town, It had been York races and lots of drunk people with too much money benefits me a great deal.

Found £15 on floor in a bar/club, then found another tenner in a drain on my way home.

Only left the house with a tenner, played a dj set in the club, was given free beer by the promoter, got home with £35.

I managed to get my hands on a limited print book from the black library. Namely "The loathsome Ratmen and all their vile kin." A Skaven background book long out of production. Now I'm not exactly sure what the origional price for this book was when they released it. But on E-bay people ask up to $90 or more for it. and usually with slight to moderate wear and tear. I won one at auction for under $45. wich is peanuts by comparison. and in mint condition to boot. So as a devout follower of the horned rat I'm happy to have it in my collection neek neek

I bagged a Mines of Moria, Baneblade, A necron Squad and 3 Tau Broadsides in a Hobbycraft 30% off clearance sale, then got a further 25% off with a voucher. So pretty cool to begin with then...

I liked the MoM terrain which is why I got it but have no real interest in LotR games so felt it was a waste just for a few coffins/doors etc and took it into GW and swapped it for new VC stuff. It really helps to blow away the post price rise blues.

Not one of mine, but I've been reminded of a friend who bought an iPod for a tenner from Cash Converters. As he was walking out the door, they said to him that if he wanted he could sell it back to them for £20.

He didn't, but I found it rather amusing that he practically found a real life infinte money glitch

Tibbs, your post has reminded me of someone from youtube, not sure who.. but they went to a sale and for £20 bagged something like 2000-3000 points of marines (including two land raiders, though that's the only specifics I remember) and a tonne of black library novels to boot.

Another "bargain" I got which wasn't really much of a bargain, was I paid £50 for "a lot of 40k" or something.. hadn't seen it but I was young and careless with money.. in return got a bunch of Eldar, load of white dwarfs and some terrain and such. Worth it, I suppose, though the eldar were and still are in such a state of disrepair I never use them. Need to fix them up one day.

My best find?

A few summers ago, when a lot of students were moving away/changing apartments, I was driving down the road and spotted some red foam sitting on the curb with other unwanted items.. I stopped, checked it out and managed to score an old GW/red foam carrying case. I was pretty pumped to say the least.

Aside from that, I was in an antique/junk store this past winter and someone selling comics/collectibles had a box of Tac Marines and Chaos Warriors listed for $15 a piece...win.

Correctamundo! My friend was gutted he didn't think of the same idea.

Another one, my dad works in Nottingham at Raleigh which is pretty much now a distribution centre for loads of companies. At one point they were going to throw out a 16GB iPod as it was returned as "faulty" as Derpymcderpson who bought it did not realise that 16GB=about 14.8GB in reality, so he sent it back as broken. It gets given to my dad to see if it's fixable and long story short I get a free 16GB iPod.

Lucky bugger.

Top condition fairing for my bike on eBay, RRP of ~£400, got it for £32. Very happy!

As a guy from Yorkshire, I can vouch for this in my case. I actually seem to roll pretty well most of the time. The last multiplayer HQ battle my local gaming group had, we had to get someone else to roll the scatter dice (whoever it pointed to went first) as I couldn't stop rolling hits. This was only on Saturday.

A number of years ago, I scored about 40 noise marines, 12 of the metal daemonettes, six chaos bikers, and a daemon prince model for less than 100$ on Ebay. The amazing thing is that most of the figures had decent paint jobs as well. That was probably my best "score" on 40k stuff.


The thing was that the seller had a single very poor quality photo which was scaring off most other bidders. But that's how I get good deals on Ebay. Look for used stuff with poor quality photos, no pics, listing errors, and awful little kid paint jobs that can be stripped. You can sometimes get recent stuff for pennies on the dollar that way.

For non-GW related ebay purchases, my best ever has to be a nice WW2 German topical canteen (with original straps and cup, which are are almost always missing) for 20$. They usually run in excess of 100$. Once again the seller had a poor pic and had mis-listed the canteen in the wrong category. I almost felt bad for him....

Those are some pretty cool bargains, and if a person lists it wrong/doesn't know what they've got, well, it's pretty much their fault for not looking into it more.

Reminds me of something I saw where in a supermarket a man was at the checkout. He let another person go first because the other guy only had 1 item. This guy with 1 item then became the millionth customer and got 250k or something mad like that.

Talk about a bad day.

Let's see... I guess I could say I managed to find an old-school Terminator Librarian in my box o' bitz, rather than having to shell out £20 or so for a Belial model and Librarian cohort...

I found £60 on my drive way once. walked up the shop saw £40 of it. Went to the shop bought some milk walked back onto my drive way and found a lovley 3rd £20 note there. I was also at a theme park once went to the vender to buy a tub of Toxic waste sweets. They were £1. I handed him a £10 and in change he gave me a £20 note. So I actually made money through that purchase.

It contained 20 cadians (complete) - lasgun arms.
20 sets of vox helmets and packs.
20 of each grenade launcher and flamer.
20 sets sergeant head and arms.

1 metal 2nd ed IG sentinel with mordian crewman (torso off the old weapon crew gunner).

1 Vindicare assassin.
1 Eversor assassin
Half a leman russ tank (main hull) plus track sprue, but no wheels or track side plates.
2 complete Tallarn heavy weapon teams (autocannon and heavy bolter)

For $30AUD. When it was $40 or so for a box of 20 cadians.

My best eBay find was a few years back. A seller had a limited edition Battletech miniature still sealed in it's blister pack that was ending at a really funky hour (like 5 AM PST on a Monday or Tuesday). The figure was an INFOCOM Phoenix Hawk LAM which was only available to people who bought a computer game, beat it, and mailed in a questionnaire. Anyway, the figure is rare and sells for $150-250. I nabbed it for around $20 after getting up at 4 AM to snipe the auction. About four years after winning it I sold the figure to another collector for $250 so I made a pretty sweet profit.

Not a super deal but a deal none the less, last week a I got a brand new Chaos terminator box for $28 and free shipping. I was pleased.

A few years ago I found a Sony Ericsson phone that was like the brilliance of the brilliance at the time. I got about 260-270 USD for it.

I recently bought a "broken" iPad 2 at the local flea market for $70, got to haggle it down to $50. The seller said it won't turn on.. apparently the only thing it needed was a charge, now I got a working iPad 2 to use !

What made this LAM figure special was the customized hex base and the Crescent Hawk emblems on the wings and legs of the `Mech.

I found a bunch of Chainmail dwarves and orcs, 2 other D&D metal figures, an Undead army pack from Crocodile Games ($80 on their site), 2 Reaper figures, and 4 Mage Knight metal figures all in their original packages at a flea market for $35.

A lot of the miniatures have come in handy for D&D (especially the undead), and I will probably be able to sell the remaining Chainmail dwarves for around $30.

Some time ago a hobbyshop near me was closing down, and I found the following

Anything I got from the minatures my shop in PG had on discount so.

Then snaffled the collectors edition 6th edition.

Not sure if its a great find but, I just won a free storm talon from a spikey bits website give away. I'm super stoked.

They also had a FB, and youtube winners too, just had to subscribe or like spikeybits page and post a comment.

They have had some other kinds of competitions in the past, the only ones I can think of off the top of my head was the super heavy one, and the wrecked vehicle one.


If you do go to the spikeybits blog check out the stormtalon walker, I plan on doing something like it but with a defiler for my Black Legion army.

That Assault Walker is pretty nice, though it looks a bit.. unusual.

Looks better then the stock stormtalon IMO.

By far the biggest lucky find of my life was about two years ago when I lived in Chicago. I lived down the street from a small 24 hour diner in a pretty bad neighborhood. It was about 1am and I often went up there for some late night cheeseburgers. I got about halfway down the block and I noticed cops busting a few guys in the diner parking lot in the front of the building. There must have been someone meeting them i guess and he panicked when he saw the law and tossed something by the grease box or whatever the term for that stinky thing is. I walked pass the cops and got my bacon double cheese burger and left. 1 hour or so later I got up the nerve to go see if I really did see him throw something or not. I did. I was sooo happy. Should have seen my cheeseburger eaten self run.

Brilliant comment in the second spoilered box, though not so sure about what you find myself... Could be kids reading this (I'm not normally a prude lol)

Saved myself about £90 on retail for things I would have bought anyway.

I love eBay sometimes...

I'm into Epic Armageddon and ended up getting an Emperor Titan, 5 Warlords, 2Eldar Phoenix Titans, A complete run of all the funky Eldar and Imperial Titans as well as 3Warhounds, complete Marine, Eldar and Orc armies with multiples of all vehicles.
To top things off, I also got a complete Tyranid army with all transports, artillery, bio titans, etc. for $75.
The guy that sold all that to me said he wanted to get some War Machine stuff and needed to make room.

Gotta love ebay... I just got a stormraven gunship for $35

I bought an OOP Warhammer starter set (Empire/Goblins) for $1 on Ebay. Seller had jacked up the shipping so no one else was bidding - he was local and agreed to a pick up. Turns out he was 5 minutes away from my work.

I got an entire epic scale Marine Chapter (the only thing missing was a few devastators and Dreadnoughts) for £25 I don't even want to work out how much it would have cost at full RRP.

My best deal ever was on Bartertown. I posted looking for Genestealer Hybrids. Somebody PMed me, said he had them and some other stuff he was looking to get rid of. I asked him what he had. A rough list:

Some of the stuff was beat, but most of it was useable or repairable. You know I'm telling the truth about this because you can see some of the models mentioned above at the links in my sig.

- got a pack of Moonscape terrain for $15. GW sells it for $35.

- Was looking for a single Space Marine Bike for my Wolf Priest. Looked on eBay, found one new on sprue for $14 shipped.

Last wednesday of the month here in central ohio is 1/2 off day at the local Volunteers of America thrift store.

A few years ago, in my early hobby days, I found on Ebay a lot of LOTR, named something like 'LOTR figures with magazines'
I decided to bid, even though you could tell nothing from the picture, and I won it for only $16 AUS (About 10 pounds)
When I recieved the lot, it contained over 60 miniatures, including the fellowship, a butt-load of Uruk-hai, Riders of Rohan, and many more.
Along with that, it contained roughly 10 of the now OOP 'Battle Games in Middle Earth' Magazines, which were full of great scenarios, painting guides, and other useful stuff.
I spent quite a lot of time just pulling stuff out of the box and staring at it.
Other bargains include:

Seriously man, it's epic! The sellers a guy called Yastobal, he seems to be having a blow out starting everything at 99p with no reserve.

He did one load around the time that I started bidding, these have all finished, though he's got another lot up now.

I hope your 'buddy' got more than $40 and a book for that collection-that's worth a lot more than $40 value. If it was a guy on ebay, you got a great deal. If you gave a friend a book and $40 for all that, remind me not to be your friend, because that's a downright rotten deal to be done to a friend. I hope I misunderstand the amount somehow.

I also find it hard to believe that after 2 years you can recall every model you got off him which is why I believe a lot of this to be fake which I hope it is.

I don't know if its a bargain but I found an old blister of Ulrik at my FLGS. Picked that puppy right up. Yay for metal!

Nope, 40$ and the Helsreach novel.

He took off %'s for it being:
1) my birthday
2) he didnt want them anymore
3) he needed money to see his GF (gas)

One good score on eBay was a complete set of Necromunda terrain + the Outlanders terrain. I had bought other second hand Necromunda boxed sets (which is why I have like 4 rulebooks), but this was just the terrain - nothing else.


But the best one was when I decided I wanted to buy Space Hulk (long before the most recent edition came out). I had found 2nd Ed and got that (in French - but the guy included a CD that had PDF's of the English rulebook, the original 1st Ed rulebooks, plus expansions, and scans of every Space Hulk White Dwarf article ever), but then I came across a great eBay Auction:

Tyranid Attack (complete & with x2 the models you should get)
Space Hulk: Campaigns (hardback supplement book for 1st Ed)

Not sure how much it cost me - it wasn't cheap - but it was everything in one go plus the Campaigns book and Tyranid attack with extra models.

Last Week I got the 3rd Edition Cadian Battleforce for 20 quid at a random marketplace.

It was a great day.

I have no luck whatsoever I lose money more than I find never win anything and if luckly get 50/50 odds with a 3+ save, so obviously the story wont be about me, my friend won a army carry case (one of the card ones with blue foam, forget the name) and he didn't even know he entered the competition! All he did was subscribe on youtube.

I used to visit ebay every day looking for bargains.

You get a lot of Buy-It-Nows crammed with stuff for real cheap. People don't really no what it is there selling (or don't feel like marketing it properly) and chuck it in one lot for about $100 dollars.

This has netted me:
2000 points used orks - About $400 retail.
5 lord of the rings army's- about $700 retail, I don't play LOTR so I gave them to a buddy.
750 points empire- About $150 retail.
Various box's from numerous armies- About five kits worth, no idea what they cost new.
Some Not-GW miniatures- Couldn't be bothered looking at what they were worth, threw them up on ebay and got $75.
Various rule books- Mostly out of date, though they would of cost a lot new.

This stuff came from three different auctions, cost me $200 total. None of it was in perfect condition, but most of it was repairable.

I picked up two copies of Heroscape Master Set 1 at a K-Mart for $4 each a few years ago.

Probably well over a decade ago by now I found an ebay auction with no pictures labeled just "Space Figures" for $80. I took a chance and ended up with 100ish metal GW models from the Realms of Chaos and Rogue Trader era. Over the years I've sold a bunch of them making back more than my investment and still have about 30ish metal Rogue Trader Space Marines that I go back and forth about selling.

Hmmm well I've had a pretty decent run of luck since I started collecting my Guard this spring but the highlights of recent months are as follows:

Finding $20 on the deck, I gave it to a Hawk and Falcon rehab group to help feed a flock of baby kestrels they were taking care of, figure I should pass the luck on.

Had 20 IG and 6 HWT drop in to my lap for free when a mate's friend decided to get out of 40k. Also caught an auction a couple months ago that got me 30 guardsmen with lasrifles, appropriate number of vox casters and sergeants for $39 shipped. About $1.30 a model when the official kit goes for $3/model. So I went from 30 guardsmen to approx 80 in a very short amount of time.

More recently I acquired about $850 worth of Sisters of Battle for approximately $400 USD shipped. Not the greatest of deals but the SoB have always been my white whale, and even now as an adult well beyond my ability to afford new from the Grand Overseers at GW ($110 or so for a squad of Sisters, Sister superior and a rhino!? Outrageous even for GW)

Within the above deal but separate from the bulk of my sister buying was a whirlwind tank with the old school missile pod (which I prefer, and /really/ prefer for an Exorcist over that silly pipe organ) for $27 shipped which I was rather pleased about. It just needs to be stripped, given some fresh bits and painted up Sisters style and it's ready to rain devastation on the enemies of the Imperium.

I also see a lot of people trying to see miniatures that really don't know what they have. I saw a 1987 Rogue Trader First Release Space Dwarf for $10. One would think the first ever set of 40k miniatures Citadel released would be worth a little more than that

Bought a 'job lot' of guardsmen for £30, got £120 worth of Cadians, lot of metals, and 2 somewhat-limited edition Cadians at ease. Colour me pleased

got given both lost and the damed and slaves to darkness books plus the old gw elric rpg and shed loads of extra stuff by my cosin when he joined the marines :]

Recently, I picked up 5 AoBR terminators for $5, then another 10 for $30. I'm currently building the rest of my deathwing army with them. Not often that I can get a 1500 point army for that cheap.
