fluffage:
I wanted to make a guard army, but didnt want to stick to one lot of models as i had some left from 3rd edition..so, the combined regiment was formed..featuring Tallarn, old and new Cadians, Catachan, Necro'Gangers and a couple Elysians when i get round to the Taurus Venator..
Basicaly an army of vets, when regiments are worn down to a few squads they get mixed in, i wanted my army to reflect this..
masters of Odnance, map dude got a servo skull added since photo..
A running theme is the higher ranking dudes have collected skulls and keep them for good luck..the c.commander has an Ork skull 'cos 'e double 'ard with 2 ccw's in a real un guardy fashion, mostly due to PTSD..
^^Vets..(i modeled the options to allow me to choose either 2 plasma and a heavy or normal flamer..still need to add metal paint..sarge has 2 skulls)

next week is dark eldar skimmer spam, followed by city fight fun with nids on the 31st.
need to build 2 banewolfs, a pask-quisher, some heavy weapon teams, a chimera and then airbrush all my tanks at the same time ready for a spot of guard vs guard apocalypse soon as.

Too kind! This is your blog though, don't want to gate crash, what's up next for these nomads?
Also I just read about sculpting with a paper clip!! I'm doubly impressed!!!! If you ever want to splash out on new tools I can't recommend 'colour shapers' enough for green stuff work, no idea what they are meant to be for but they are great for subtle bits of greenstuff work.
edit: ALssssoooooo, what are the base for these nomad guys? looks like some sort of empire stuff, but I can't quite place it.

No worries, i will probably buy some sculpting tools at some point, keep buying toys though lol..up next is vehicles...i won an old ork trukk on ebay(bidding on another with harpoon gun and grabber), will replace the driver with a human, in other news im gonna headswap some elysians in a taurus to make a nomad auto cannon killy 6-wheeler, eventualy turning a new ork truk into a nomad raiding wagon with tarp ect.
These dudes are born as empire free company, given new life, John Blanche inspired me me with his articles in the new WD, i now look at fantasy minis in a different light, doesnt take much to 40k them..

That looks really good man, always wanted to get one of those buggies, look so cool.
Does it have some sort of cage thing above the driver normally? or have you just left it off?
60893
Post by: rustproof
I like the look of it to man, but the model was a little too bent and looks a bit silly if you hold it or look close..the casting on the multilaser had a blockage and didnt form properly, lascannons all kinds of bent, the cage is behind it, left off for painting, that too is bent and does not line up. Customer services will be getting a call tommorow, £35 should not be miscast and the medium is too flimsy for the fine, spindly & fiddly bits..I needs to get some mesh and fix it to the roll cage, maybe rolled up tarp, need some pva.
51446
Post by: J-paint
Ah yes, now you've pointed it out I see it now, If its just bent It might not be as bad as you think, if you boil some water and gently dip the bent bits in you'll find they are really easy to straighten out again. Its a problem with alot of forgeworld stuff, It's annoying, especially as we pay so much, but Its not unfixable.
60893
Post by: rustproof
Yeah defo fixable but for the sake of more units per hour vs letting the mould ect cool properly before pulling out the sprue, its quite annoying considering the price..cool model though...happier with it now i must admit, the scale difference between the GW and FW guardsmen is quite somthing too.

Not been doing any painting, but building has been non stop. Ordos Xenos Interregator found life from a Dark Elf black guard model i had from childhood, plasma pistol and eviscrator and a full hand swap makes it 40k. More ashwasters, another leader 'one eye' bitter rival to 'lefty' in the 'treasure' hunting game they both use to find employment between guilder trains that pay the main bread and butter credits in exchange for safe passage through they're barren territorys.

First time painting armoured vehicles, my eyes think they came out nice. Not shown is the red marking on the right of each turret/viewport, pask has kill counters on his, 2 skulls and a plane to represent the two trukks and a dakka jet that he so far has purged in games..the dakka jet was particulary good because i literaly said 'pask is gonna shoot that plane', rolled a 6 to hit, penned and rolled another 6..the rest of the shooting in that game was typicaly piss poor down to the last man, but downing the ork dakkajet was sweet.

Ruglud, thanks.. the cutting and sticking of cardboard was like meditation, the big truck i think is awesome, all will double as 40k terrain also.
Llamahead, yeah man i checked them out, the motorbikes caught my eye and would probably be great as outriders for a trucker gang, would like to see them in better photo's with no riders though.

Also try to wipe you camera lens, the cloudy look you get in the pictures are often a result in light getting bend in grease
60893
Post by: rustproof
The over done effect was to hide the clunky plastic tube scratch build, first attempt with sole scratch built bits, the death ray will have less cables, I feel better about the structure on the arm for that..(also the ott look is kinda what I was going for, the prime is sect militaris, id imagined him gratefull for the hulking siege weapons hard wired in, offerering him status within the political side of the admech..if you think that is ott wait until you see the death ray lol.

Post by: rustproof
Hers the wip raygun, a little filling, cables and perhaps another gubbin between cables..my reasoning for the mass of cables is that when not wrapped around the servo arm they can plug into things, diagnostics, defender robots, digital weapons ect, dr octopus with tank tracks for legs and siege weapons for fun.
3

Post by: J-paint
I dont think he is overdone at all rust! I think thats just the level of ott that the mechanicus enjoy, how did you make the cables though out of interest? looks like they are made of greenstuff??

Post by: rustproof
No apology required.
I felt that a seething mass of cables was what an arch magos who took himself seriously would sport, tools come weapons tearing foes asunder. I used masquerade mini$ tube tool, awesome for making cables with stiff wire centres, i see a floating dude in the future..i also got some of theyre bake-able waxy putty stuff, too brittle when cured for self supporting sculpts but id imagine good for building a shape, before adding plasticard et gs details.

Thanks Manus, wanted to keep it simple while also keeping some kind of squad marking, the red stripe is a general 'Expeditionary force' marking..probably not fluff correct but, works for me. The other markings on the right pad are heraldry, the preator's mark is the chequered black and white which is going to be a theme throughout...held aloft are trophys from the crusades, the head of each warlord mounted to strike fear into the enemys of the Emperor.

The Hrud infestation on Korsk was a good earner for the Klaxan family guild, simply throw credits at the problem and employ the best soldiers and arm them with the best equipment, the Mechanicus pay a good sum to ensure production isn't pushed below quota by the insurgent Hrud.
In return for the pest control service provided by the contractors, unscrupulous souls sourced by the Rogue Trader Hector Gustavo for they're sheer brutality, zeal or simply ImperialArmy recruits looking for extra joy girl tokens. It was a dirty war but the trade deals would not only be kept open during the crusade, working so closely with the machine cult provided many benefits in these trade deals. The expendable contractors did all the work, the family collected the credits and reaped the rewards in the form of advanced arms and vehicles for the private army.
Dating back the the Masonic Lodge wars of old Terra, the Klaxan Dynasty is said to have supplied the Emperor himself during the Wars of Unification with troops after losing his estate to the compliance of Unification set out after the battle of Sud Afrik. Centuries later the family has been granted Legate status and is in command of an Expedition fleet attached to the First Legion.
