Hey everyone:
I'm fairly new to war-gaming and this is my first ever Dakka post. However, I've been redirected here countless times when googling 40k stuff and some of the creations you all post here are just INSANE! So, inspired by others, I figured I'd give it a go, too.
I started this army back in March though, I have to admit, I've only ever played 5-6 games of 40k! Anyway, I'll try to update with more pictures as time goes and, please, let me know what you all think. Keep in mind that I'm new at this and they are definitely not professional quality! But, I always appreciate constructive criticism.

Next up are some custom built Obliterators. I wanted to save some money by trying to make my own instead of dropping the $22 each for these bad boys! I used regular CSM bodies with some bits from the Rhino kits and a fair amount of Green Stuff. I also threw in some old action figure guns to bulk up the weapon-arms. I figured these are passable Obliterators; after all, they are hulking masses of flesh, armor, and guns!

They turned out very well. Keep it up.

I wanted to add some Zerkers to the army but I knew they needed to have their own customized Rhino to transport them. However, I've since plopped them into a Land Raider so this Rhino just ships around normal marines.
I tried to make a huge Khorne Idol on the top of the Rhino. The throne is inspired by the Iron Throne from the George R.R. Martin series (Game of Thrones on TV). I just hobbled together GW bits, Legos, action figure parts, and some plasticard.
Keep in mind, this was one of my first attempts at scratch building and using green stuff, so be kind! Let me know what you think!

I had an idea to use some Lesser Demons as tarpits but never quite could get them figured out and placed in a good army build. Oh well. But at least I had fun making these guys.
The official GW demons just don't do it for me. They're neat, no doubt, but there's just something about them that doesn't suit me. So I shopped around and found these guys http://www.manticgames.com/Shop-Home/Kings-of-War/Undead/Core-Units-Zombies-and-Ghouls/Product/Undead-Zombie-Regiment-with-Command-30-Figures.html which seemed to be a great deal for so many minis.
Anyway, I tried to create a bunch of shambling zombies emerging from the Warp. Some of these are the plain zombie models while others have Chaos possessed bits to make them look deformed and more demon-like. Also, some bases have more demons emerging from the warp other than the standing model. I based the models with green stuff and it was my first attempt at source lighting, though it doesn't look that great because the bases themselves are so dark colored. Maybe I'll go back and lighten them up to make them more shiny. I've also since lined the bases with a black ring to make the purple "pop" a bit more.
Let me know what you think!

Next up is a scratch built Chaos Dreadnought. It's made almost completely from old action figure and toy parts with a few GW bits thrown on to tie it in with the rest of the force. I also used a Daemon Prince head to make it look like a Daemon was piloting the Dreadnought from within the Sarcophagus.
There's still a lot of painting left to do but I was just too excited not to post!
Let me know what you think so far!

My squad of custom Plague Marines. I wanted to do something different than the typical bloated-zombie look. "Plague Marine" has a very chemical warfare sound to it, so I ran with that theme.
My first purchase was the Chaos Space Marine Battleforce. I tried to stretch it as much as possible, so I ended up cutting the legs of my marines in half to double their value, making 2 marines for every one supplied. To cover up the other leg, I made a robe that wrapped around the Marine's body. The Plague-containers on the back were made from a mechanical pencil and some green stuff. The gas masks are just green stuff as well.

Wow, never thought of extending a kit like that.
As usual your ideas are stunning, I just think you need a little more practice with greenstuff so that you sculpts do justice to your vision.

What are you using for sculpting, most work can be done with a scalpel blade but I have found having actual sculpting tools is a big help as well as rubber paint shapers/blenders, they will improve your cloth 100% I promise.

Here are the Plague Marines all painted up. I was a little sick of painting Purple/Blue armor with Pink lightning (the army's normal scheme) so I went with a Green scale pattern for these guys. The robes themselves are pretty weak but overall I think they're a success.

This army is awesome the ideas and all the imagery are very cool the conversions are awesome not too over the top which means it doesnt detract from the overall image personal favourite is the Khorne War altar awesome looking.... Maybe you could build a blight drone a eyeball on a metal cradle plenty of tentacles I also like how you utilise action figure parts I have looked at some of my spares and unwanted toys from my growing action figure collection and a while back built a Talos for my Dark Eldar army a menacing metal and flesh construct that was built from the inner frame of a Halo magnitised figure plus it ultilised a menacing axe its still WIP but it looks good.
This is a awesome army in the making and look forward to seeing more of it in the future

Well, at last, I've finished the leader of my force: THE CTHULHU DAEMON PRINCE!
This is a heavily converted Daemon Prince model. The Space Marine puppet is supposed to resemble the Prince's Lash of Submission which allows the Prince to move enemy units. I think a puppet more closely fits this ability than does the standard whip which most modellers choose to use. What do you think?
I've yet to pick up the new CSM Codex so I'm unsure of how Lash works (if it's even still a skill!). Regardless, I know I can use him as a Flying Monstrous Creature to tear up my opponent's flyers!

Here's my second Daemon Prince.
I decided to go with a Maggot theme because I've gotten a bit tired of modelling so many tentacles! I know, thematically, tentacles would have been more Lovecraftian but, dammit, gross stuff fits into the lore, too! What's more gross than a Daemon with a maggot tail? How about a maggot tail that's bursting with zombies trying to escape its vile confines!

In response to a few messages about the most recent army picture, here's the giant monster from it. Originally, I built this as a Count-As Defiler, but I think it will work out as a Forgefiend / Maulerfiend. It was made mostly from an old Aliens action figure, some green stuff, a few GW bits, and a JP Velociraptor model.
There's still some work left to do on each side of the turret; I'll probably buy the Fiend's bits on ebay to make the model complete.

I'm thinking the next unit will be a bunch of Chosen who can infiltrate on some mid-field cover with Meltas, Flamers, and 1 Lascannon (for the reach and added threat). I really like the idea of snipers and, although Chaos doesn't have a sniper unit in of itself, I'm planning to model regular CSMs with some Camo Cloaks (probably made from green stuff) and converting their Bolters and Meltaguns into sniper rifles with stocks, extended barrels, and large scopes.

Well, here's the Chosen unit I talked about a few days ago. I tried to make them look like a sniper team, complete with a spotter. The camo-cloaks are there to represent the unit's infiltrate ability.
The sniper rifles are made from cut-up bolters, pistol holders, and the exhausts from the Chaos Jetpacks. The front of the barrels are pieces of sprue and the mounting polls are knife handles.

Your conversion work is commendable. I love the daemon with the "meat puppet", and the counts-as defiler's control cowl is very reminiscent of the means by which the Locust in the Gears of War series control their Brumaks.
I have to say, a lot of the scratchbuilding I see that is done as a means to save money comes out rather poorly, but yours is quite the opposite. Keep up the good work.
