A nominee will rise up above the other contestants and take care of the Pm votes for the judges entries of course posting in this thread who the winner/loser is. The pannel of judges is still growing a tad to insure all fairness is kept!
I am a little curious about your title cormade... "Objective Terrain"? Do you want objective markers, or do you want terrain pieces? They aren't necessarily the same thing.
Gitsplitta wrote:I am a little curious about your title cormade... "Objective Terrain"? Do you want objective markers, or do you want terrain pieces? They aren't necessarily the same thing.
Well in one mission there is claim a peice of terrian as an objective. So Objective markers are what we are looking for but a small peice of a terrian can be a objective. So objective terrian is what boiled down to...
In reality i play both as either or but we are looking for objectives up to a 60mm base size. Plenty of room for free will and fun.

The plan is to have this as an ongoing terrain contest, but we're starting off with Objective markers to ease people in then challenge them more as we go on.

Yup thats three bases, each one has to fit the "themes" presented in the OP.

27th

Count me in. I have a few ideas for objectives for my Deffskulls rattling around on my table. I may as well paint them whilst awaiting my box from China.
I'd love to enter, I need to make some objectives for my CSM warband anyway. Between IRL issues and a heavy hobby workload (and a snail pace at the best of times..) I don't think I could make the deadline though.

If you'd like, do what you can and we'll see what you come up with in the time and judge that instead?

Whoever wants to do prize support can do it in addition to what will be offered. If we get 20 people then i 90% sure i can get sponors if more then 100%

still some space left for another entry? would love to join... those objectives sound nice...tho a bit cryptic... but i am sure i can figure out something... may it be steampunky for my own needs too?
Thought i'd drop by and throw in my entry, It is kind of a cheat because I've only just finished it when I saw this thread, Also I should probably be disqualified because although there are GW bits, the majority isn't =o
Anyway, my slaanesh inspired objective....the implications boggle the mind....:
hey J-paint... isn´t that the freebee lady from ramshackle games? i always wanted to have her too...just for painting purposes tho
yay! i am in!!!
and guess what...? i raided the bitzbox and combed my mind and i already have the three needed concept nailed down pretty good... but i will try to work on these in earnest not before the 3rd of august...as i need the time for something else still
can´t promise earnest stuff tho... asi think this competition has it for me to do some weird stuff... of course all legal to the rules...
speaking of... 50% GW... so a totally scratchbuilt OM wont be able to enter? just checking...

If its completely scratch built that is perfectly fine. If you are using a GW base, it must be half GW at the end.

Good job I added the lamp to mine as before it was 90% plasticard 9%base and 1% GW
so if i totally scratchbuilt something... then 100% without GW parts is viable? but if i start adding non GW stuff i have to count stuff?....or am i a bit dense at this time of the day? remember to be polite... i have had a hard family day
Viktor von Domm wrote:hey J-paint... isn´t that the freebee lady from ramshackle games? i always wanted to have her too...just for painting purposes tho

If start GW base 50 gw at end. If start at kustom den gw no matter. if you add GW it no probz

The thinking of it is that if you were to game at GW you have to mave the majority of a model as GW parts, if it's scratch built GW don't tend to be bothered by it. so if your building it from bits 50% need to be GW parts, whereas if its scratch built none of it needs to be... but feel free to embelish it with GW parts if you want.
I will say this, and I hope panda agrees I don't think the base should count towards or against the models as to whether it is GW or not... so long as it conforms to the base size rule It's fine no matter what.

The largest they can be is 60mm bases, but they can be 60/40/25mm its your choice!

Fair enough, its what Panda and myself are here for!
Got my heroic/inspirational dude done. Going to be a statue of a Blood Angels hero. Bunch of parchments describing his deeds all over the place. Its a marine on an old GW paint pot mounted on a 40mm base.

He'll be on a large pile of scrap/loot with a squig perhaps. Waiting on a base to decide.
40kFSU wrote:Very impressive. I have no gift for plasticard work. My experiments usually end in giant embarrassing train wrecks.
In honesty, that is the first thing that I've built which is completely plasticard... everything else has had plasticard added to it.
The only advice I can give is get your measurements first, and be accurate as possible, then take your time with a sharp blade and a steel ruler.
Thanks for your kind words as well, I'm reserving comment on peoples entries until its time for me and panda vote lols, then I won't seem biased towards anyones work (I hope )
wow... that is cool looking childe? i am quite perplexed...
most of the work i can figure out how you probably had done it... but how did you do those tiny window panes??? is that just 1mm rod of styrene? awesome...and please do a scale shot... cant believe it from that angle that it is indeed 28mm scale...
at 40ksu...
i specially like those blue and white checkered tiles...makes it look quite noble...
side question... if i am feeling up to it... i might make another one... so number four then... we are allowed to enter two entries to one category? which entry will then be judged? and we are allowed to inculde full minis...as seen above with slavetodorkness and 40ksu?
only asking because i have for quite a long time a champoin of the emperor lying around with no use for me... would make a great statue too...

its actually 0.5x1.0mm styreen strips, glued on its edge.

your allowed up to five objective markers as one entry, three must be in the themes stated in the OP, but any additional's would have to be repeats of the any of the three themes, but not necessarily the same as, so you can do "heroic" twice with two completely different counters!!!
and the whole entry sum will be judged as a whole? will my chances increase when i enter more than three? you gotta do the maths after all^^ ... new hobby stuff doesn´t gow on trees you know
I feel I need to add "Consistency" to the list as well, due to there being a minimum of three bases. so all bases need to be painted consistent with your painting skills and modelled accordingly as well. doing more than three bases doesnt improve your chances, but it gives you an oppertunity to show off your skills.
Dam I was almost tempted to try this is out but 3 bases, plus I have no idea what the hell objective markers are ? as I don't play so I am totally dumb struck
But good luck with the comp, and that Dr who box is friggin awesome …… I hate you even more now
Viktor von Domm wrote:ok... the second one will then be quite interesting...
this is a very inspiring and interpretive comp...
Thats what Panda and myself were hoping for!
well for me, I'm using this comp as a much needed boost in ability for scratch building. but also in later rounds I'll be adding to things needed for Calliope
My first thing is done. Ive been playing with bronze because whenever they release a new vanilla marine codex Im doing Minotaurs. I think Ill forgo the Griffon Sephia next time.So here he is.
Blimey that was quick painting... I can't even paint my first one until I buy some new paints... plus building/converting/modelling is where my skills lay anyways, and I'm happier building
also, remember people to post a picture of all three of your entries when they are completed, that way we can link it on the front page to your name so Panda and myself can review it when the deadline has arrived.
Thanks gents. And I consider anything from Gitsplitta to be high praise. As for #2, Im thinking about using some of my DA bits to make a dais and a book. That seems like the kind of thing they wouldn't want misplaced or forgotten.
WOWOWOWO i leave for a day and so much has happened! i like the statue its well executed. And dr who booth? WUT nids..need to time travel.. All is going well. Childe PM me about consistancy and explain further. Thanks!

at 40ksu... that is a stunning piece...! looking really good... tho i would ahve loved to see it done in copper with verdigris weathering... but that´s just a personal issue^^
and at childe...well you´ve shown already quite some talented stuff!
ha! i didn´t thought i´d live the day to say this...dumb move
hehe... i think now a wave of bad kharma will come rushing over me
on a second matter... i want to make a statue too... i have a nice idea... but this would need a slightly biggerized base for my idea... would say 19cm be totally OOT? it will be a cool fountain with watereffects and such things... but i need more room to play and build upon...?

As panda said, save it for the later rounds, as this opening round is just to ease people in... Round 2 is going to be a doozy too btw
@Viktor- Thanks and I thought about doing the bronze weathering but 2 things stopped me. Ive only done it once, poorly, and I want there to be at least one non worn out/demolished monument in the Imperium.
Up next really basic one- Thing that shouldn't have been left behind.
Company Champion to his buddies:
"Yeah, I told them they didn't want any of me, that I was like, all Guilliman'd out. That I was feeling the Primarch and all but did they listen? Psht, no they didn't listen. (begins to re-enact fight) So they came at me and I was all like get this and take that and chopping things off! I wasn't even tired , man! Then this real big one came at me. What? Yeah, thats his head over there don't interrupt me, man, I'm Champion. So I grabbed my sword and said you want some? And he hit me and knocked me back but, naw I wasn't hurt, and I was like.......................hey, wait..................(looks around)....hey....(nervously asks).........where's my sword?"

and that new objective marker... is it for "left behind"?
and i see your point mate... there must be some stuff in the grim dark that is not totally ruined and weathered... after all new stuff get´s produced en masse in the IoM every freaking day...
well i am in a bit of a slump atm... the yesterday draged me a bit down... so i got derailed with a UFO build^^... but i am still sorting through my bitz boxes and will start soon^^

Yeah I saw that and thought you were going to enter it as an objective tbhlols... shame your not!!!
me? shaming ...what for... and the UFO as an objective marker? never thought about it that way... actually i want it as a vehicle/flyer... and the build as such gives me a hard time too... the weapons don´t want to be attached in a good way... and i would love to add plates but the shape of the plates always gets wrong...

If the plates won't stick, why not cast it up as is then model onto the cast peice... there's more than one way to skin a cat
Dem some sneaky Gits burryin themselves up to their nekks and waiting fer some hummy to come by for that sword!
LOL...good one!!
and 40ksu... nice painting job there...tho i ask myself if you could have made those chopped off orkheads look a bit more realistic with maybe one on its side? with some spine and gore...
I'm just finishing them and using the brand new GW objective kerjiggers to make them look cool and more importantly - very usable in game! ie roll the obj dice and place it on the objective.

Oh noes! I missed that part! I only took a few WIP pics. Well here they are:
WIP
Here's the "Inspiring" one with a wounded Angels of Absolution (the chapter I play) Marine. This is before I decided to use the GW Objective Marker set and I had a banner on there instead. Scraping it off was a PITA.
Here's the collection of all 6, still WIP. I haven't added the washes, snow, some extra basing, or a couple highlights - or a clearcoat!
Sorry for bad quality - they are basically "oops" pictures since I totally forgot to get real WIP shots. :(
Automatically Appended Next Post: Aaaaand here's the finished products! I did them rather quickly, so I could start using them straight away! I'm sure I'll get clobbered in the competition as a result, but hey - I'll be playing with them tomorrow!
So the whole theme is meant to go with both of my armies. I play the Angels of Absolution (a 2nd founding Dark Angels successor) and I'm slowly starting Imperial Guard. The AoA is based with rocks/slate and snow, while the IG are based in urban rubble and snow. They blend nicely and I used both basic 40mm bases and urban rubble resin 40mm bases. I like this size for objectives as they can go about anywhere and don't cover too much space, yet still allow some cool stuff to be shown. So far it seems everybody else thinks so too!
So first my favorite - the wounded marine. He's fighting his last, and you either are going to save him, get his gene-seed, or recover the information he's retrieved about the fallen! He's meant to be in the Inspiring category.
Next up is a console of some sort. It's clearly technological and important! Maybe it's inspiring, maybe it got left behind, or maybe it's just a supply! Who knows!? You can see it with the objective dice being used.
Fuel is always important! Here's some barrels that armies can fight over - they both need the supplies. Once you throw the dice on, it looks pretty neat.
This mystery container got left behind! The armies need to retrieve it to protect, retrieve, destroy, or use its contents.
Here's some things you'll want access to: a teleport homer and a vox-caster! Call in reinforcements!
The ammunition can never be ignored. These supplies are something everybody wants.
And here's all 6 of them together! I made 6 because it's the max amount of objectives that can be in a game. Also there were 6 of those sweet servo-skull-dice-holder dealies.
I hope you guys like them! I'll be paying attention to see what you guys come up with too!

Haha, well remember peeps, theres no such thing as an original idea, just an idea thats been messed with. Also, remember that even if your markers are similar, judging also comes down to painting, modelling, and a few other things too!!!
I've got my second one figured out and am currently puzzling out a way to mount Da Prospekta on the ridiculously crowded bases I bought. lol
Third one will be the "Left Behind" one but I just gotta dig up some ammo crates that fit upon a 40mm base. This one will be ammo that some Grots have accumulated but got left behind during a surge of WAAAGH! from Da Boyz. I was inspired by some Grot crew models I got from FW. Should be pretty cool.
still a bit sidetracked... i have to finish my UFO and also i started work last week... that still has me a bit disorganized... but i hope to start working on the markers around this weekend...i WILL enter the needed amount... kicking and screaming

Haha good to know... I still need to sculpt my last peice before starting the paint jobs
yup... still not fully started the work week for real... as i work at school and the first graders are still to be starting next monday... lots of preparations and stuff...god... i today copied thousands of pages from books...urgh...
Perhaps, since there are a possible 6 objectives in a 40K mission, we could do another round of 3 objectives later on as well? Giving us a whole 6 afterwards?
Actually it's a shame neither panda or myself had thought of that... otherwise we would have limited the counters to a solid three other than the three to six we have listed on the OP.
Tis a shame... c'est la vie.
Well Round two is already planed (which is my domain lols), which will hopefully stretch everyone's skills

I may be dumb, or it's my lack of coffee, but I don't see anything about how many objectives to enter. Only the three categories. That's why I thought it was three.
No matter though.

Looking forward to it!
OK, so I got off my ass last night and built my last two objectives plus the base for my first one. I even got pics of them before I primed them, only to have the site go down and I couldn't post them!
So, here we go!
Base for Prospekta:
Just added a bit more scrap to the resin base to make him look like he was standing on a pile of it. This will be my "supplies" entry.
Second one will be my "left behind" one. Mainly because of the look on the Grot on top's face. I know the pic isn't good enough to see but it screams "where'd da Boyz git off to?"
The third Grot on the separate base will be integrated behind the crate. It will be crowded but Grots don't have an idea of "personal space".
Lastly will be my "motivational" one. I found this in my pile of "to-do" stuff in the Ork section of my workspace (you have no idea how much crap I have!). It is very suited for this purpose!
Better pics will be posted after paint (these are just from my phone) but you get the gist of where I'm headed.

Well I did post earlier as to what the hell an objective marker was as I don't play I just buy gak loads of models to stack in boxes on shelves
If someone had broke it down for me then yes I would have but no one did so no as it's a bit late now but I have seen some really cool stuff going on here
However count me in for the next round, but please break down the requirements for us none players or fluff readers I am slightly pissed that I did not no what the hell was needed
Also 3 objectives marker dam you are demanding
Now where is K9 I am trying to work out your number 3

Ah sorry dude, I knew there was someone/something I needed to reply to... but for the life of me I couldn't remember what
lols 3 objective markers are the minimum you can have, and the max is 6 so no we're not demanding lols... just going by the rules
oh, I broke my SD card slot on my comp, so need a usb plug and play one before I can post pics... you'll see a finished K9 soon, plus something rather random, but along the same lines which is a scratch build/sculpt
and...horatio cane is so awefull.... i seldom watch this show....it is totally hilarious to see him take of his shades and make that constigated look... something in me then feels the urge to belt him over with a spanner....
lols, I'm more of a Matt Smith person than a David Tennant for the modern ones Vik but yes, I am just rekindling my love of Doctor Who. As next year is the 50th anniversary of the show, and GW used to produce some minatures of DW back in the 80's. so any excuse to involve one of my biggest loves.
Yeah Gary Sinise was good in The Stand, but its been a very long time since I've seen it tbh
since you are one of the guys here that is totally in with the doc... as i never really started to watch any dr. who... where would be a good point to geeeeently ease my way into that whole scheme?... any series i should start with... i dunno if i can cope with the really old stuff... or should i do nevertheless?
Just a little more off topic. I have seen that guy with the shades on commercials for CSI Miami, but have never seen the show. I just don't have the coping skills. I do know the character takes himself extremely seriously. I find his name very fitting and impossibly funny.
In fact the more I think about Horatio the funnier it is! I may have to catch a rerun.

Well I'd suggest if your wanting to watch the new stuff to start from Christopher Eccleston tbh, as you can see the show evolve properly from when it was brought back in '05. it's the only way imo. Fair warning though, Matt Smith is like a child with genius complex teaching a class of pupils older than him just after ingesting a bag of sugar or three.
cormadepanda wrote:Well clearly everyone here is off --objective. Yeeaahhhhh. Sorry LDD should of helped you out, you could have sent me a PM mate!
Yeah, blame me for that one lols... Whoops... ok time for us to get back On Topic
I hope everyones bases are coming on, we need to see more pics people!!!
Ha nice job, love the K9 great job with the PC and wire I wondered what the hell the last one was at first nice GS however you could have done with some more scenery around it IMHO.
It would have framed your work better, otherwise FANTASTIC !!!!! and I hate Dr who cares
40kFSU wrote:Really nice Childe. That's a clever theme for your objectives.
Haha, thanks, I thought so lols... I remembered seeing the old Doctor Who mini's at Warhammer World in nottingham last year and the idea just clicked... plus any excuse to do something Doctor Who related
Still trying to figure that out. The depression will be swamp, so more likely to stumble than not. If I feel it would be more prudent to have him injured, I'll modify it before finalizing. He won't be attached until I'm satisfied with everyone and begin water fx
ah swamp will be truly nice to oggle over... and injured i think would be the ideal choice... just a mere stubled officer i think wouldn´t be instantly recogizable...
there is the tried and tested method of tea-towel twisted into a firm roll, inserted into the victims mouth, allowing it to soak the stomach juices and ripped clean out. It will pull the stomach out with it.

Must stop this discussion now, as the mods will tell us off if we are not careful.

2nd Red Rubber Ball
3rd Dog dish with bones in it
4th Stick
5th Fire Hydrant
6th I am not sure yet, I am thinking a Squeaky Toy.

WIP of my "Something left behind" (it isnt the dead chaos marine)
The rock formations is plaster of paris backed to plastic card to protect the edges from crumbling over use.
The chaos marine was slain by a vertical sword cut from head to groin. He died so close to attaining true power. He had something with him, something he carried. An object possessed by an ancient and angry being...
