Ok so who here likes kitting out their mechvets with an ungodly amount of special weapons? Everyone! Who ever has enough of any of them to go around though? Not as many i'd wager.
I've tried to keep these tutorials as basic as possible. Knowing that A) not everyone is good at using greenstuff. (myself very much included here) and B) not everyone is experienced in converting and modelling or may not feel comfortable chopping up their expensive plastic toys willy nilly. All of these conversions were acheived using only componants found in the standard Imperial Guard Cadian Shock Troops box and the most basic of greenstuffing ability. *Please note that with the addition of the Mk2 plasma gun parts from the Imperial Guard Cadian Heavy Weapons Squad have also been used.*
So Meltaguns. Parts needed - 1x lasgun, 1x flamer, wee bit of greenstuff.
Spoiler:
1. Start by taking a flamer and disassemble as shown. Keep all the little bits you cut off, you'll need them later.
2.Trim down the flamer nozzle so it looks like this.
3. Take a lasgun and cut off the barrel. You should also now trim off the pipe and angular side of the flamer nozzle. It should look like a cylinder with a flat side now.
4. Line up the 2 parts and glue them together. It should look something like this. Oh at this point you should also snip of the lasgun power pack and bayonet lug. Smooth out the surfaces with a file as well.
5. Alrighty then. Hardest part of the conversion coming up. Please excuse the large, ugly mass of blutack. glue hadn't finished drying yet.
Get your greenstuff and roll out a sausage, as fat or as thin as you like. Cut off a small segment about 3 or 4mm in length and glue it on above where the power pack used to be. Flatten the ends with a GS tool or the tip of your knife/scalpel/xactoblade/etc. This is now the fuel canister.
Now take the rest of you sausage and glue one end to where the power pack was. Glue the other end to the spot the bayonet lug used to be. This gives you your feeder hose thingy... As you can no doubt see my gs sausage is poorly glued on.
Remember those little bits you cut of the flamer? take the teeny tiny hose bit and glue it the underside of the fuel canister. This step is optional and is purely to buff its appearance.
EDIT - Towards the end of the 2nd page Blaggard posted an excellent picture of a meltagun he converted. IMO its a superior design to mine due to the fact that it uses no greenstuff. It also looks cool. Go check it out.
And there you have it. Finished meltagun. Onto the Plasma gun. Huzzah!
Plasma guns. Parts needed - 1x lasgun (i highly suggest you use the (H) lasgun.), 1x Grenade launcher.
Spoiler:
1. Cut the Grenade launcher barrel off at the ammo drum. The barrel should look like its got a bit of a backing plate, carefully trim this down so it matches the barrel.
2. Now there is a step in here which i forgot to take a picture for. But its a simple enough process and doesn't really need a pic. Take your lasgun and cut it half. Flush to the powerpack is what you want.
Take both the butt of the lasgun and the barrel of the Grenade launcher and glue them together. It should look like this.
Now at this point you might be thinking that this thing still looks more like a nade launcher then a plasma gun. And you would be right. You see the plasma weapons most iconic feature is their coils that everyone paints bright colours. Theres nothing even remotely like that in the standard Shock troops kit. So lets just pretend this a new varient of plasma gun that uses a tube filled with plasma instead of those funny coils. (It will make more sense when painted. Trust me.)
3. Ok last step. Take a small dab of GS and tak it on the end of the barrel. Make it dome shaped. Push a small indent into the centre of the dome so it looks kind of like a hollow point bullet.
Not a fan of this style of plasma gun? Look below.
Presenting.......
The Plasma Gun Mk2. Parts needed - x1 Lasgun with arm, x2 Arm free lasguns.
~ Before starting i would like to apologise. I normally use a lasgun with an arm attached. I didn't this time for some reason. Also, the arm free lasguns can be found in the Cadian Heavy Weapons sprue. From memory there may also be one or two in the Cadian command kit. Im unsure as to whether you will find any in the Catachan kits. If not, well that the price you pay for collecting an army full of ugly models. ~
Spoiler:
1. Remove the indicated areas. It should now look like....
2. This. Remember to keep the bit marked in the orange box.
3. Take the 2 arm free lasguns and remove the stocks.
4. Very carefully remove the bumpy end of the stock. I used a blade for this as the razor saw was impractical and the snippers would have just mangled everything. These parts will be used as the magnetic coils that makes the Imperial plasma weaponry so indentifiable.
5. When gluing the coils onto the back of the lasgun you will notice that they aren't quite as wide as the body of the lasgun so some precise placing may be needed.
6. Right we're on the home stretch here. Cut off the Lasguns powerpack. (I think all my conversions involve cutting off those blasted powerpacks.) You also want to cut of the barrel so it sits at the same length as the little bit underneath it (not sure what that is or what its called). You can
remove the bayonet lug if you like. I personaly left it there because i thought it looked wrong without it. -For this step refer to the below picture-
7. To finish off take the part kept from step 1. Trim it down so its just an oddly shaped little bit of plastic. Turn it so the sloped end faces out towards the barrel and the flat end sits flush up against what are now the magnetic coils. It may need some additional triming and neatning but it should fit pretty well.
8. Not really another step, just a comparison picture of the Mk2 plasma gun and a standard issue lasgun.
This is a much better Plasma gun in my opinion. It looks almost bang on for a standard Imperial Plasma gun except its slightly smaller.
Lastly we have the Sniper rifle. Parts needed - 2x lasgun, 1x chainsword ( ).
Spoiler:
1. Righto then. Get your chainsword and carve it up like this.
2. Get a lasgun and carve out the little round bar thing on top. Heres a comparison so you can see what im talking about.
3. Glue the Chainsword motor on the top of the lasgun where that bar was.
4. Get the second lasgun and cut it in half like so. At this point cut the whole barrel assembly off your first gun like shown.
5. Glue the front part of the 2nd gun to the the body of the 1st gun like in the picture. I also shaved one of the imperial eagles off. It looked sill with two. I also filled in the join with LGS. It looks like im going to need another coat or two.
Pretty simple sniper rifle conversion there.
Oooh almost forgot. Heres what you can do with a flamer body and the blade of a chainsword. Enter the Eviscerator
Spoiler:
My latest addition to the special weapons list, Shotguns. Yes plural. I went from no shotguns to 2 in one evening.
The first is a Pump action shotgun with a pistol grip pump. A forewarning, this conversion looks strange at first when you see the pics. When you are holding the actual thing though you really start to see that it looks quite realistic.
All right folks, this one is fiddly. Lots of small parts that can get lost easy.
Spoiler:
1. Take a standard lasgun and disassemble along the indicated lines.
2. You should now have 3 pieces that look like this.
3. Next get the Vox pack and cut it up like shown. Keep all the parts.
4. Take the main arial and cut the little bumpy bit at the bottom off. Keep both bits for later. As always snip the lasgun ammo pack off.
5. Glue the arial to the lasgun. This is now the shotguns barrel.
6. Take the circular arial from the vox pack and cut the circle off. Don't worry about the bayonet handle you can see in that pic. Was gonna use that for something but didn't end up needing it.
7. This step is probably the most fiddly out of all.
The little bumpy bit you cut of the main arial? Glue that on so it sits flush with the body of the gun. You will need to file or shave down one side of the bumpy bits so that it glues properly to the gun. Take the stem from the circular airal of step 6. This stem should have a chunky end. Glue the slim end to the buppy bit you previously glued on. The chunky end is going to serve as the pump. There should have been a tiny arial on the vox pack (not pictured in picture 3 becuase as i cut it off it flew away never to be seen again.) glue this little arial to the chunky end of the other arial stem. Now like i said before this step is very fiddly and convoluted. I advise reading it a few times and looking at the finished product before attempting it. Hopefully i've indicated all the bits properly with my colourful lines.
8. Take the support arm for a grenade launcher cut the hand off and reposition it 90* so that its facing up. The grenade launcher support arm should more or less line up with with the pump. Some creative positioning may be needed or it might be easier to glue the severed hand to the pump and the glue the arm to the hand. What ever works.
I can see this design being a bit hit and miss with people. But at the end of the day its still a shotgun and I don't think i'd take much to convince your opponent that it is a shotty.
Still, if the pump action shotgun ain't your bit then you might prefer a full auto shotgun. Something akin to the AA-12. If so then read on!
Auto Shotgun. Parts Needed - 1x lasgun, 1x Grenade Launcher.
Spoiler:
1. Start with a standard lasgun and cut off part of the barrel, the ammo clip (surprise) and all the bumpy gubbinz up the top. Its also worth scraping off all the rectangles and circles on both sides of the lasgun. It should end up so it goes from this.....
To this...
2. Take your Grenade launcher and cut the both ends off so you end up with only the grenade drum. It may take some extra cutting and filing so that its smooth on both sides. (I didn't think a photo was necessairy for this step.)
3. Either using a saw or knife cut a square chunck out of the top of the drum. This bit can be tricky as you need to get it the same width as a lasgun. The easiest way to get it the right width is using a file to gradually wear down the insides.
4. Flip the drum on its side and cut about a 1/3 of the way through it as shown. Which incidentaly is about how wide the lasgun clip is.
5. Attach the larger side of the bisected drum to your lasgun.
Hey presto, an automatic shotgun. Very little reloading required.
I hope this is helpful to someone and was easy enough to understand. Any comments and/or criticisms are welcome. If anyone has any difficulty understanding my instructions or the pictures you need but ask. I'm more then happy to rewrite bits or post clearer pics if need be.
Will definitely be using the Meltagun conversion at some point. Not too sure what to do about the Plasmagun, in particular the lack of magnetic coils. If you can find something aside from greenstuffing it on that that would be awesome. Aside from that, very nice work, I can see this being very useful to a lot of people.
Yes i did mange to make a few adjustments to the plasma gun which i'm slightly more happy with. The paintjob makes a huge difference though i think. You can actually tell its a plasma weapon as opposed to a lasgun body with a grenade launcher barrel glued to it when its painted up.
Hang on il throw up some finished, painted pics. I've been meaning to post them for like a week now but i've been lazy.
Well, the Plasmagun still looks a bit weird, but I really shouldn't comment, especially if people are doing this on a budget. The Melta and sniper look fantastic, though. Those are my favorites.
Hey mate I'm right there with ya. Its odd looking i know but i couldn't find anything that even remotely resembled the magnetic coils of a plasma gun. So instead i went for a tube of plasma with a magnetic rail underneath that propels the plasma blast much like a railgun propels it projectile.
Also that picture is very dark and the blue on blue doesn't help none.
I still feel like the plasma gun looks too much still like a grenade launcher. Unfortunately, I can't really think of a better way from the stock boxes to correct it.
I think they all look pretty good. The plasma gun is definitely a different flavor of plasma gun manufacture, but I wouldn't confuse it with another special weapon type.
I really like the melta gun myself! I tried something like that and didn't turn out nearly aswell. I'm going to have to try your version next! Love it!
I agree with adamsouza. You can say it's just a rare pattern of plasma gun. I think it works and I'll us this conversion over buying the plamsa/melta $15 blisters.
Dark Apostle 666 wrote: The plasma gun looks like it was reverse engineered from tau tech...
I'm sure you could tie that into fluff somehow - maybe they got supplied from a R&D forgeworld or something?
Oh hey i hadn't noticed that. It does look a lot like the Tau plasma rifle. At least we know it would look good if you were running a tau w/human allies army.
One idea would be to score the tube with an x-acto knife. That might create the coils some people are looking for, but I like the unique look it currently has.

That plasma gun looks the business once painted! Wouldn't it be simpler to just use two pieces of plasticard though? Similarly, some tube and wire for the meltagun?
Construct wrote: That plasma gun looks the business once painted! Wouldn't it be simpler to just use two pieces of plasticard though? Similarly, some tube and wire for the meltagun?
Maybe, but not everyone might be aware that plasticard exsits. Or maybe they don't know where to get it from. I was following the KISS ("Keep It Simple Stupid" for those who don't know what it is.) principle as much as i could. Plasticard and wire and stuff just adds more to deal with. The fact that i had to resort to using greenstuff annoys me a little.
Just tried the Melta and eviscerator on some of my own guys, only with part of a chaos marine backpack as a vent on the melta. Works really, really well and is very simple but effective to do. Thread exulted.
I like that it gives all the weapons a sort of 'modular' look to them, which I would expect from such a mass produced item. As though they are all based on the same basic frame (Which the models themselves are)
Gotta say that this is great, I picked up some Dark Vengence cultists and a box of Imperial Guards, time to make some badass henchmen.
Also, I made my own take on the plasma rifle, I'll try to make some pics when I've got some free time.
Cheers!

Please do! Its always nice to see what other people come up with.
FifteenHours wrote:I might try this plasma gun conversion with stormies, as the hot shot lasguns might work better with the backpacks and pipe. I'll see what I can do.
You know, i had that same thought as well. Only problem is i have no spare stormtroopers to try it out on. Please lemme know how it turns out.
I did a similar thing with the Meltagun but differently. I cut the hose off the flamer, cut off the flamer bit, cleaned it up and just transplanted the melta nozzle from a multimelta sponson from my Leman Russ(I don't use sponsons and far as I know NO ONE uses the multimelta sponson) and put it onto the end of my flamer. Works perfectly.

Okay, well here it is.
I should've taken pics as I went along, but it was a prototype so wasn't sure it would work out. I really like it though, so will do another one.
Basically, it's really straight forward: You cut the hot-shot lasgun at exactly the same place (more or less) as you did in your designs which used oridnary lasguns.
Then, I used your idea of taking the barrel from the grenade launcher and sticking it to that.
Finally, I used the VERY old plasma gun muzzle (it's actually from the original Space Crusade, so I think 1988?) and attached that to the end to make the large muzzle. But you could easily use green stuff for this instead.
It does require some careful cutting and filing as the stormies are all metal. But it only took about 20 minutes.
daedalus wrote: I think it looks way too large. Maybe if you used the plasmagun muzzle without the grenade launcher tube in the middle?
Really? Damn. I was quite happy with it tbh. It's only a few millimetres longer than the hot-shot lasgun.
I did consider just using the plasma muzzle without the grenade launcher, but it would look really chunky and far too small for a plasma gun.
I think it definitely passes as a plasma gun though with the grenade launcher part housing the plasma coil and the pipe and backpack representing the energy cells and cooling systems.
Essentially I wanted something a bit different for my Kasrkin and wanted to use the bitz I already had lying around. I saw this thread and saw I had grenade launchers in my bitz box and some old space crusade plasma guns so messed around with both ideas and ended up with this 'long barrel' plasma gun. Kinda of a mixed reaction from people it seems, some love it, others feel its just a bit too long and 'bad ass' looking lol Fair enough, I do see where they are coming from, as it looks more like a 'plasma RIFLE' than a 'plasma GUN'........But hey, they are kasrkin, so I say they are bound to have the best goodies!
Very nice, i like em all. For sure going to use both plasma conversions. I got a large bits auction a while back packed with IG bits, especially flamers and launchers. Special wep vets here i come.
Use the hose from the flamer and attatch it under the meltagun. You might need to bend it alittle first. Just use a hairdryer to warm the plastic up abit first.
You can also cut off 4-5mm first and use that part for the feul tank.
Really great job on these simple yet effective conversions! I'm sure these will make many IG players happy with the low requirements these have, both in skill and currency.
For the plasma gun I have another idea to represent, seeing some people viewing the OP's idea somewhat strange. I've been thinking to build some plasma guns from lasguns and plasma pistols (of which I have loads as a marine player). I haven't yet figured it out completely, but the result should look nice (and the overheating coils are further away from the puny guardsmen ). What do you others say?
Of course this requires one to have the plasma pistols, but they shouldn't be too hard to get hold of, since few marine players use them anyway.

i've found you can use the barrel of the normal lasgun for the tank. http://ompldr.org/vZnJydQ/IMG_0430.JPG Sorry for bad camera quality, but just the end of the rifle and the bent tubing means less greenstuff fething about.
Thats awesome looking. Totally bummed i didn't think of doing that.
I'm gonna add a note about that in the OP. Its wicked looking and removes the need for troublesome Greenstuff. Nice work mate.
There are some good ideas being generated here, thanks to Snrub starting this thread!
Keep the pics and experiments coming people.

I think I know what you have in mind building plasma guns from plasma pistols and lasguns!
Post pics when you have the time as I think you have a good idea here.

Thanks for the encouragement!
I just made the first pair of plasma guns out of cadian lasguns and they turned out quite nice. It takes just a bit green stuff to fill the gap between the two parts. Tomorrow I'll test it on catachan lascarbines - just to be fair. I'll try to get pictures of the process and the finished guns also. Until then... Cheers!
Hello, and sorry for taking so long to get these pictures to you! I had to revise the design of the gun to fit the handheld lasguns. It took me a while to get it right, but in the end it looks even better than the original "fast and simple" design. I believe that the plasma coil being further away from the puny guardsman will give me better luck with the "Gets Hot!"...
To build these "new" plasmaguns, I first chopped off the space marine's hand holding the plasma pistol, and then cut the rear end of the pistol from the end of the plasma coil. Then I measured with my eyes (with the help of the cut plasma pistol) the right place to "saw off" the lasgun (approximately I cut off less than a half of the skull's right wing). After that I made a cut right at the bottom of the elevated part of the lasgun (take that little nub off also) and cut it nearly all the way down, and the made another horizontal cut to make a hole where to insert the remains of the plasma pistol. Superglue recommended.
The cuts may need some careful fixing to get the new barrel fit right, so a small file may come in handy. I'm also going to use some green stuff to fill the gaps to give them a cleaner look.
Thanks for the positive feedback! Hopefully others find this helpful and easy enough to do. And on that note, if someone feels lost with my instructions on how to build those, I can post a tutorial with pictures also. A few spare plasmas won't do harm for a footguard player like me. And if I ever decide to add yet another platoon to my army, I'll need to do 5 more of these guys anyway.
I would go with a guitar wire for the tubing on the melta gun. but still, pretty good. I do like the melta gun for sure. Just worryed that the GS hose will snap off.
Griddlelol wrote: Great job on the plasma gun Mk II. I absolutely love it! Gives you something to do with the wasted stock from the lasguns I turned into sniper rifles!
Another experienced modeler, even the 'trash' isn't thrown away. I salute you sir!
Very good work on the plasma guns, I definitely will have to make a few of these. My problem is the same as some others...no handy supply of plasma pistols.
This thread is very helpful, and has inspired me to pitch in to help with power weapon options primarily the Power maul.
It is a test, I'll make a how to tomorrow, but it requires no green stuff, just a hobby knife, cutters, saw and glue and maybe half hour (but I go slow and had to search the floor for the head)
Jex, I honestly want to build one of those and put an axe-head on it. I'd never thought of shaving the teeth off of a chainsword though. Good inspiration.
daedalus wrote: Jex, I honestly want to build one of those and put an axe-head on it. I'd never thought of shaving the teeth off of a chainsword though. Good inspiration.
Funny you mention the Power Axe, because I do have something planned to turn the maul into an Axe without more work (if only a single extra step to follow)
Just got back home, so got to eat and such then I'll do the step-by-step instructions for the power maul and power Axe; Power sword requires more filing to make the chainsword's body more 'coney' and give it a sword shape.
I like that maul Jex. The two little spikes on the backside do it for me. Club someone, then gouge their eyes out.
Making alternate power weapons wasn't something i'd thought of. Mostly because i wonder how many people would be equipting cannon fodder with expensive CCWs. But now i think i might just take a swing at it myself.
Well, this is bad. I had pictures and everything, but they all turned out blurry. Even the blurry one here was the least blurry of them. I should have checked, but they looked good in the camera's quick view option.
You'll need:
Utility/hobby knife
Hobby cutters
Hobby saw
Files
Plastic glue
Cadian Shock Troop Box, specifically, the Sergeant's arm with the chainsword (Power Maul) and include lasgun F, G or H OR one loose bayonet from the Cadian Heavy Weapons Squad for a Power Axe
20, 30 minutes of your time, maybe more/less depending on skills.
Keep in mind that I wear glasses, so plastic bits flying off don't really bother me, but just in case, wear goggles.
Spoiler:
1-Remove the bur off the chainsword, it makes it look better.
2- Using your utility knife, begin by slowly cutting the chainsword's teeth from the frame. Make it one, long cut so that you end up with a joint 'chain' that can double as a mouth for a comical chainsword (or a possessed one)
After that's removed, file or cut away with the knife what's left on the frame until it's all nice and even.
3-After that's done, take your saw and cut straight down where the chain was, down into the frame, but do not cut pass the engine block. Going lower might fragilise the hand guard. Put the saw flat where the chain blade was when you cut. Also, you can lean on the slump of the frame to cut perpendicular so you'll end up with a more squared piece to file. File and make sure that everything is even.
4-Next take your cutter and cut off the engine's exhaust, using files and knife to smooth the surface, then remove the air intake fins on top by scraping it with your knife and using your saw, again using the frame as guide to make everything straight and even.
5-With the knife, cut a straight line right behind the notches on the frame, go around the frame as well, taking care that the cut is even, as it may filing way easier. After a dozen turn, you can just chop it down- just make sure you got your hand close, as it might fly off. File both the top of the frame and the back of the bit you got.
6-Glue everything together. The hammer head can be glued either direction, I just find that a flat even top makes for a better maul. I chop off 2 teeth from the chain and glue it at the back for added looks.
POWER AXE EXTRA STEPS
7- Chop off the blade off the bayonet of your lasgun. As you get 10 lasguns in a box, and the Sarge never gets one, there's always one left, so make sure it's a bayoneted one so you can have it.
8- Cut at a 45 degree angle, the back of the blade's body ( as in, the part of the blade that is not the sharp, slicing part) and glue it to the maul's hammer and voilĂ , instant Power Axe.
It is fragile, so perhaps cutting a notch in the hammer head before might help to hold in place, or at least make a spot glue can harden and weld it into place.

Although those Plasma guns look... interesting, I would assume it would just be a matter of hacking off the Space Marine hand, fitting it on a guard hand with a grip modeled in it (Or just hacking off the lasgun from a Cadian gun arm) and modifying a "Gripping" hand to fit with cutting/greenstuff.

Tech-heresy is what we go for in this thread. Hell one of my plasma guns looks like its come straight off of a Tau production line. If that aint tech-heresy then i don't know what is.
Hey great conversion techniques...but I have to ask: any ideas for getting a batch of shotguns made? I was going to try and kit bash the ones from Scouts, but I'm not liking the results.
OOoooh Shotguns.... The bane of my converting existance. I just cannot figure out a way to convert shotguns out of the Shock Troops or Heavy weapons kits. Not without getting heavily into plasticard or brass tubing and that would go against everything i tried to achieve with my initial tutorial.
You know what Kaiser stay tuned. I'll sink a few soild hours into this and see if i can't nut out a shotgun conversion over the next few days. *meaning possibly weeks*
Kaiserbudheim wrote: Hey great conversion techniques...but I have to ask: any ideas for getting a batch of shotguns made? I was going to try and kit bash the ones from Scouts, but I'm not liking the results.
I've seen many attempts at converting shotguns, and almost none of them worked well. Most involve cutting up lasguns and adding bitz to make them look more like a shotgun.
I bought some shotguns from victoria lamb that look excellent for fairly cheap, but that's mainly because I'm lazy.
If you were really good with plasticard and greenstuff, I bet you could make some convincing double barreled shotguns for fairly cheap by using a basic las pistol hand, and then chopping the front half off to attach a couple of small tubes for the barrels.
I had thought of that. It still looks very lasgunish though. I am working on something that looks promising. Its going to be 40 degrees tomorrow though. So if i manage to unstick myself from what ever piece of furniture i fall asleep on tonight i'll try and finish it off and maybe get some pics up.
I kind of did what Ross said except I left part of the barrel (the area between the handguard and the flash hider?), I removed the stock and left the battery pack and sight rail?. ugh if i could find a picture i'd upload it
Hmm thats From The Warp... That guy is bloody brilliant. Great painter too. Its a good conversion but something about it doesn't sit right with me and i'm not quite sure what.
hum, given me an idea though - you could do the shotgun how I suggested at first but use the pipe section from the flamer minus the muzzle part to make the barrels (like the pic but minus the section with all the holes in).
Would give you a double barrelled shotgun and you could use the flamer muzzle on a meltagun conversion.
Snrub wrote: Hmm thats From The Warp... That guy is bloody brilliant. Great painter too. Its a good conversion but something about it doesn't sit right with me and i'm not quite sure what.
I think I know what it is. The holed sheath is cool but there's no slide. No way someone should be holding the underside of that shotgun while firing.

Anyone else have any requests while i'm at it?
The Mk2 looks like it just needs something on the front. Kind of trapezoidal, with grooves.
-Swampy, thats a fine looking guardsmen. He looks like a proper weapons sepcialist who only gets his good gun out when he needs it. The helmet really suits the sandy paintscheme too.

Thanks Snrub, I found the conversion not to be too hard and having a bunch of GS on hand to do tanith cloaks means that i didnt have to use much for this job. I recently stripped my models old paint scheme and wanted to try khaki out with some browns (A la US paratroopers in WWII color). I cant wait to get his 9 buddies done once they finish soaking in the paint stripper
Thanks guys for the tutorials. I shall be sure to try them out on my IG PDF in good time. A great way to improve the guard is to break up the troops with some variety in the types of guns they are using.
So after re-reading this thread earlier today and seeing the plasma gun mk2 it got my in the mood for some cutting and sticking.
Knocked up some plasma guns, love plasma guns, i think these ones look great considering they are just cut up las guns.
I have left the mags attached to mine, powers gotta come from somewhere I love the modular/multipurpose look these conversions give to the humble lasgun I Also think that they will make great substitutes in game once painted up because they will be easily recogniseable with the coils painted blue/green making them stand out from all the other lasguns.
Whilst hacking up various bits making plasma guns i was rumaging through my vehicle parts spares box and found something interesting for making shotguns.
Chimera lasgun barrels... turn it upside down, trim the ends and hey presto, ready made shotgun barrels.
I have a TON of these as all of my chimeras are "set back" converted already not quite within the original remit but an iteresting angle on the idea.
I have also made some of the sniper rifles using 2 lasgun bodies to make them longer, i have also used the tiny little scope targeter thing from the IG mortar in the HWT box.
Again not strictly within the original remit but what guard player isnt going to have spare HWT parts
Amazing. Just, amazing. I've been building up my guard army from non-gw models, so special weapons are quite annoying to create. Yet, I've something like +20 lasguns -> enough to make plasmas and meltas. Meltas though are a bit annoying, when GS is required and I'm not too good at using it....
The drum mag is just some 5mm plastic rod, cut to the width of the lasgun mag well, then cut a quater slice out of it, cut off the lasgun man and stick this in its place, IMHO i think it lacks detail but gets the point across.
I like it and it looks good, no green stuff involved obviously.
On the right you see my succesful failure of self-made plasma. It went bad while putting coil part on the lasgun, so I went for something with bitz I got next to me.
So after lots of pondering on this again i came up with another melta gun alternative, although it isn't strictly in the original brief of just using plastic bits from the kit....
Basically i got to thinking of how each gun is "identified" plasma with the coils on top, flamers with the vented from with a pilot light, bolters with a simple barrel and lasguns with the slanted muzzle. And i also thaught about how these are mirrored across all sizes of appropriate techs, lasguns/lascannons boltpistols/bolters/HB etc etc etc
Meltas are easily recognised by the tubular muzzle with the distinctive vents in it. so spurred on by the brilliant plasma gun (mk2) from this thread which i have already replicated.
I like how it is based on a lasgun with the premise that all guard weapons have some elements of interchangeabilitly.
So a couple hours of fidely cutting and drilling led me to this
have made up a few on some of the 2 piece guardsmen as with my plasma guns, just waiting for the outer part of the muzzle to dry so i can gun out the vents
