My second attempt at a narrative blog:

The world of Indigo IV was rediscovered in the opening years of the Great Crusade. The world was rich in natural beauty and resources. The continents were covered in huge, rolling plains, towering mountains, and crisscrossed in clean, flowing rivers. The world was a paradise and much appreciated by its population who lived a life of peace and prosperity, even during Old Night. As luck would have it, the Blood Angels Legion located the Indigo system and brought it into compliance. The Angels appreciated the art and beauty of the world and spared it from the greedy and careless hands of the Mechanicum and its resource recovery teams. It is said Sanguinius himself once walked the soil of Indigo IV and marveled at its beauty.

When the Heresy came, the Indigo system was largely overlooked. The world held no tactical value and infrastructure to harvest the vast natural resources had never been put in place. The world was simply put on a list to be destroyed, sacrificed, debased, ect, when time allowed. So, again, the Indigo system was spared the grim darkness so abundant in the far future.

When the Imperium rose, The Indigo system lost its anonymity amongst the stars. The Mechanicum came with its mining teams and began to plunder the many worlds of the system and the Administratum took control of Indigo IV. Much to the relief of the people, the Imperium kept the world as a paradise and left its population largely alone. The mission of Indigo IV was that of an intergalactic resort. Hero's from all over the Imperium were allowed the luxury of a short stay at the paradise world. Meetings, conferences, and such were commonly held on the world and the people felt they were, in some small way, contributing to the Imperium.

But people are people, and the human spirit naturally strives for great things. So when the hero's of the Imperium told their stories, and the histories of great battles and glorious victories were learned, the spirit of Indigo IV began to stir. They began asking "why not us?". They began to talk of serving in a more direct manner. They began to speak of raising a regiment and joining the mighty Imperial Guard.

Here is the first squad of the Blood Debt, just a Tactical type. Also a WIP of a sorceror.

Our story continues........

Time marches on and the good people of Indigo IV remain focused on joining the mighty Imperial Guard. Unfortunately, the reputation of this world is one of luxury and leisure. These qualities do not breed the type of fearless, vicious soldiers needed to protect the Imperium from its many threats. Needless to say, the requests made by Indigo IV were denied. Politely, of course, no one wants to burn a bridge to the best paradise world in the region. The years rolled on and the people were beginning to loose hope. Then one day, a transport arrived carrying veterans of the mighty Mordian Iron Guard.

At first, the Mordians were uncomfortable with the paradise world. Having come from a planet of perpetual night and fighting inside hives for years, they had never seen the vast, beautiful expanses. They had never been able to eat until they were full. They had never known comfort or leisure. And they were grateful. Although the people of Indigo IV were kind and hospitable, they were also shrewd and calculating. They saw in the Mordians an opportunity, they made their request, and the Mordians agreed.

Several years later the Indigo IV War College opened its doors. The Mordians had taught and trained select citizens on the finer points of military tactics and various manner of soldiering. They marched, shot, trained, worked their bodies into peak condition, and then did it all again. The Mordians were very proud of the war college and the citizens of Indigo IV. They saw a nobility in a people who could simply sit back and enjoy life, but sought a higher purpose. After the first class graduated, the Mordians left Indigo IV.

Although the people did not have enough arms to maintain a large force, they began to rotate through volunteers to learn how to be a soldier in the Imperial Guard. As the number of trained citizens grew, the politicians began fanning out across the region. They were looking for friendly contacts who may help in getting a regiment officially commissioned.........

Here is the second Tactical squad. That dude with the big gun is an autocannon. Im getting the Dark Vengeance guys ready and they are sweet!

The red trim is done a little different than the first squad. I figured why not?

@panda- Thanks man, you know I got tons more coming!

@Squigsquasher-Thanks, glad you like it.

@Scroll- Thanks. I wanted a cool scheme kinda based on Khorne, but not as much red. The little differences I think go with Chaos, no uniformity right?

So I have a couple Berzerkers who have been laying around, also more work on the Sorceror. Not liking the purple after all, but we will see how it goes. Also some nasty awesomeness from Dark Vengeance. That Hellbrute certainly is.

The master politicans and calculating businessmen produced by Indigo IV's commerce had soon established many contacts with the powerful and influential amongst the Imperial bureaucracy. As time passed they were able to secure more and more small arms, uniforms, and equipment. They were even able to get around the odd rules and regulations around such stockpiles. It cost a lot in favors and money, but they pulled it off.

Finally, after many years, Indigo felt it was ready to make their big push. The trained citizens were called together and issued their weapons and kit. They trained together, planned grand parades and the greatest festivities ever held on the paradise world. Which is saying something. The dignitaries of the sector and military establishment were called to join in. The Mordians were called to watch the fruits of their labors and hurried to take part. The entire world was was excited and felt the childish anticipation of a new gift when thinking of the events to come.

And so it was when a young man named Ingnacious Von Vanderhooval graduated the War College. He was the oldest son of one of the oldest and wealthiest families in the Indigo system. He was kind, generous, smart, and driven by a desire to be the best soldier and officer in the system. He stayed after class, trained long after the sun went down, practiced with every weapon he could find, read every history book and talked to every hero he could find. His hard work was rewarded and he was commissioned as an officer in the soon to be founded regiment. He and his family were simply bursting with pride and joy at the opportunity to serve the Emperor.

An entire planet had focused all its resources and spirit into realizing its dream, the day of reckoning was quickly approaching.

@Matt.Kingsley- Thanks, hope you enjoy the rest.

@eldartau1987- Hey man, thanks for stopping by.

The Hellbrute is moving along. That model is very impressive and detailed. GW really outdid themselves with that starter kit. Trying to decide what color to do the skin. It will probably be like the squad leaders above.

@comradepanda- Well, sometimes the gak comes to you.

A tad more work on the Helbrute. I screwed up the order on this guy. Should have done the flesh, then the armor. Doing the armor first really made it more time consuming. Still lots of work but coming along. I think he will turn out ok.

SO the Helbrute is finished. He has more red than bronze, thats the look of the vehicles. Kinda breaking things up but maintaining the color scheme. I decided to paint this guy as if he were half organic. The result is quite nauseating and fittingly chaotic. At least I think. Also threw the bronze on the chosen and 2 characters.

@Trondheim- Thanks, I intend to keep painting until all the paint on earth dries up.

@1-I: Thank you too, I'm going to trim the armor in red. There are so many bits and rings on them I will have to add aces more colors too.

2 of the Chosen are finished, pretty cool. Lots of gross chaos tentacles and mutation all over these guys. I have the Cultists all ready to go. I am thinking of 4 or 5 schemes so they look really cobbled together with no uniformity. Or maybe just shades of brown rags. Anyway.....

[i][i]And so the proud people of Indigo IV gathered their citizen soldiers and paraded before the military masterminds of the Imperium. They marched with unmatched discipline and precision, their uniforms crisp and neat. They staged elaborate training exercises designed to highlight small unit infantry tactics and coordinated attacks. Urban, forest, swamp, plains, mountains, there were scenarios for each. And all were flawlessly executed according to plan. Artillery barrages, or the closest thing they could come to given the limited guns, flattened various targets. The meager number of aircraft expertly supported the ground units. Even the small armor companies pushed themselves and seemed to be everywhere, aiding in each demonstration. For 2 weeks the exercises continued.

As time rolled on, the equipment began to fail, the ammunition ran dry, and the highly conditioned bodies of the Indigo soldiers began to tire. Even the weather had turned. It was becoming more difficult to meet the challenging objectives the command staff had declared. With that a slight, but noticeable, shadow had fallen on the Indigo formations. They moved a little slower, rallied a little less energetically, and their marks, just a tad off.

It was at this point the officers of the fledgling regiment met in secret. They had no Commissars for spiritual and martial guidance so they turned to one another. They discussed ways to motivate the unit. Loud curses and physical abuse like the Catachans? Summary execution like the Valhallans? The lash used by the Mordians? Countless hours of retraining like the Cadians? Finally, a young lieutenant stood up. His name was Von Vanderhooval and many recognized him for both his families wealth and his personal achievements.. He was a student of The Old Man, the hero of Armageddon. The young officer suggested they inspire the soldiers and remind them why they were going through such hardships. After some debate, the decision was made to go the inspirational route, and it was a good decision.

@Matt.Kingsley- Thanks man. That Helbrute is nice but kinda a pain to paint. Hard to explain I guess.

Anyway, 2 more Chosen......

Those chosen really take well to that color scheme! As for a highlight, I'd use a Blazing Orange (or whatever the equivalent is in the new paint range, dunno if they changed it or not) and that would make the red really pop!

The Blood Debt contains many factions from many parts of the galaxy, all with one thing in common.

The 19th Watermall Rifles were fighting on the world of Cillian II. They were ordered to launch an attack on the flank of the Necron army which had invaded the planet. Armor and artillery support was to be coming shortly after the infantry attack. That support never came and the 19th was destroyed. Later the survivors were to learn the promised support was instead used to escort the planetary governor and his harem safely off world, per the real plan. The 10,000 soldiers of 19th had been sacrificed for nothing.

The 212th Allerandian Dragoons landed on a newly discovered world and sought to conquer it in the Emperors name. The High Command did not properly recon the world and were unaware of the inhabitants mastery of teleportation technology. The 212th encountered fierce resistance when they landed. Instead of the follow on waves of troops which were planned, the 212th watched in astonishment as the Imperial Fleet turned and left. It seems an alien force teleported into the bridge of the command deck. The Lord General agreed to leave in exchange for his life. The 212th was left to die on the world without explanation.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I've been swamped lately and don't have much time for painting. I did decide what to do with the cultists. I was looking at the models and mostly they look as if they are wearing uniforms. So I am painting little groups as if they were part of loyal regiments who turned traitor rather than mindless cultists in rags.

[i]The Orlatian PDF was defending its homeworld from an Ork invasion. The world was holding its own and believed they were saved when a company of Angels of Redemption arrived. The Angels organized a stunning set of counter attacks which set the Orks back all along the planet. An opportunity came to finish off the Ork threat and secure victory. The Orlatians were to leave the security of the Hive and engage the Orks along the plains outside. The Angels were to attack the Ork HQ, and watch as the Orks descended into chaos. The Orlatians eagerly launched their attacks, but in the open, the Ork numbers began to show. Of course, the Angels never came, the PDF was massacred, and the Hive and all its inhabitants destroyed. The few survivors were to learn the Angels devised the plan to empty the guard out of the hive. They had come for some trinket located in a vault deep within the governors palace. Once they obtained the item, they left. Never intending to help the Orlatians.

@eldartau- Thanks man, glad you like the blue. Wasnt quite sure about it at first but it works.

[i]The officers rejoined their units and gave great, inspirational speeches to the soldiers. Ignacious was especially convincing, perhaps taking a few liberties and exaggerations, but who cares, it worked. The soldiers redoubled their efforts and the martial displays regained their impressive pace. After a few more grueling days, the exercises were over. The people were proud of their proxy army. They had accomplished much with very little and knew it would be difficult to impress the masters of Imperial warfare. As the population rested and tended to what equipment they had, the politicians and leaders met with the Imperial officals.

After many tense days the leaders of Indigo IV emerged from the meetings holding a long piece of parchment. On that parchment were the signatures of the representative of the Munitorium and Adepts of Mars necessary for the arming of a full regiment of Imperial Guard. The 1st Indigo Dragoons were born. There was much celebrating and praise to the EMperor. Finally the people would be able to serve in the most noble of fashions. It had taken many generations, but the dream was achieved.

As it turned out, the Imperials were not going to allow the commission. The Indigo forces were adequate for a PDF, but did not show any signs of worth to the Guard. It wasn't until the officers' speeches that the true worth of the Indigo regiment was revealed. The representative saw in the people a willingness to overcome, the officers an ability to lead, and an utter dedication to a cause. For this they were granted a regimental commission. And for this Ignacious was elevated to a company command.

And so it was a few short years later the 25,000 strong 1st Indigo Dragoons joined a crusade to liberate a sector of space which had been isolated by Warp storms for over 1,000 years.

So here is the first of 2 Rhino's. I tried to use a technique I think is called "speckle". I used a lighter red and orange and dabbed it all over the tank then glazed it. Hard to tell with my stupid lighting. I dont want to put any chaos bits on the tanks till I get my hands on some of those new kits. I figure there will be cool bits besides spikey rails.

@panda- I know, the big red box leaves much to be desired. The bits will all be bronzed and I think will break up the red. The bronze wont work on big areas on vehicles. The washes pool and ruin the effect.

@JohnoM- Thanks, glad you like it! Bronze is a base of Balor Brown, soaked with a wash of Agrax Earthshade, then another, lighter wash of Seraphim Sepia. Great on infantry but wont work on vehicles or large space due to pooling.

@eldartau- same at my work. I swear between my Rangers' historical collapse, my Noles choking away #3, and the Cowboys being the Cowboys, I am living through a sports nightmare.

@panda- be glad you don't know.

I am a Browns fan, I am sad hockey is not on to watch the pens and I really am not interested in The Buckeyes this year because they cannot go to a bowl game.

Post by: 40kFSU

@eldartau- Browns fan? Ouch. I am obligated to root against Ohio State due to their hire of the hated Urban Meyer. Why, why, why did he have to be a Gator and be so good?!?!?

On a more rational note, I whipped up 2 Icon Bearers for the CSM squads. This army is going to by Khorate, if you couldn't already tell. I am going to have some fun with the HQ/elites thing so all the cult marines will be included. They will all be bronze with appropriate trim.

Man, I have been a Browns fan for the past 15 years. Football season does not feel that same if I do not root for them.

On the note of the models, I really like where this is going. Do you have a list that you are building toward yet?

Thanks gents. I think the army is coming together nicely. As far as a list, not really. However, I did just buy a Helldrake, Forgefiend, and Oblitorators. Sweet.

Really nice blog, mate! I love the paintjobs, your metal looks stunning, keep it up! And what excactly is that model with the two miniguns? Looks brutal and awesome!

The Blood Debt @ 2012/10/15 16:49:28

Post by: cormadepanda

Hmm, i have a tempting conversion for that forge fiend. Can anyone say miniwarhound titan?! 40fksu those oblits are painted great! sadly the model looks terrible.

The Blood Debt @ 2012/10/15 17:14:14

Post by: eldartau1987

I agree in saying the oblit model sucks. I am a big fan of taking termies and GSing all the guns into some arms. That way you get 5 for 50 dollars.

The Blood Debt @ 2012/10/15 18:41:00

Post by: 40kFSU

@MrMerlin- Thanks man. The big gun guy is the new CSM Forgefiend and it is awesome!

@eldartau and panda- Totally agree about the oblits. Dont care for the whole flesh/armor thing myself.

And I was able to bronze the Forgefiend.....

Wow, I appreciate all the interest! I finished up the Forgefiend and it rocks. That is one mean model. I was considering learning to ply, may actually do so just to see this guy on a table. Still working out details on more stuff for the bases.

Fiend looks great Just wondering, is the head upside down? Put mine on the other way (plasma coil down). Looks good either way up though

Fiend does look great, but yes the head is upside down :( those circles on the sides are supposed to be covers for the eyes I believe... at least that's how GW pictures it.

Just a quick pic. I fixed the Forgefiend's head and am working on some Thousand Sons. Also got another Rhino. Found a Predator turret laying around so I figured it would be a nice option.

Thanks gents, slow going but managed finished the Thousand Sons. I was going to paint the red parts appropriate cult colors but decided it may take away from the unity of the army. The Icon does the job. Also notice the plugs of grass on the bases. I needed something to break up the rock.

The termies look fantastic, but still gotta say, drilling the barrels dude, a mini just isn't finished until it is done.

The Blood Debt @ 2012/10/29 13:36:43

Post by: eldartau1987

Those termies are great! I agree though, drilling the barrels will add a lot here!

The Blood Debt @ 2012/10/29 16:10:58

Post by: 40kFSU

Ugh, you two and the drilled barrels. All in good time. Or when I satisfactorily figure out how to do it. In the meantime, I built up the bases for the Forge Fiend and Heldrake so they weren't so bland. Also the Rhino/Predator is finished up. I switched the icons to the general chaos ones, the Berzerkers will have the Khorne icons. Speaking of which, I have 16 ready to roll. Also some bikes.

So I started hanging bits on the Predator. 2 big skull trophy things from the Ork bikes, same with the metal head on the front. I figure CSM's would be into hanging the heads of their big kills. Also got the first 10 Berzerkers finished, 10 more on deck. The Heldrake is about half way finished. That is a cool model, but for me, no fun what so ever to paint.

Yeah gents, all those panels make the Heldrake a bore to paint. Just my opinion. If I ever make another on Il come up with an alternate scheme. Speaking of which here he is. Also got some bikes and the next squad of Berzerkers ready to go. Incidentally, Kharn and a Chaos Sorceror are in that blob too. Finecast, pretty nice ones actually.

I used to never drill the barrels on my models either, maybe paint a black dot. But it's really easy to add to the routine once you have the right tool. Just grab a cheap pin vise off Ebay. Glad I did.
