I would like to know anyones favorite 40k quotes. They have to be official, so like in the books, codexes, rulebook, etc. Even Dawn of War.
I'll start-
Mine is:
"We've run into scorpions the size of battle tanks.
Three men died from eyerot last week and I've
sweated enough to fill a lake. Emperor help me,
I love this place- it's just like home!"
-Captain Rock of the Catachan Jungle Fighters, commenting on Varestus Prime.
"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends. I have forgotten nothing, and my wisdom has expanded far beyond mere mortal frailties."
You are not free whose liberty is won by the rigour of other, more righteous souls. You are merely protected. Your freedom is parasitic, you suck the honorable man dry and offer nothing in return. You who have enjoyed freedom, who have done nothing to earn it, your time has come. This time you will stand alone and fight for yourselves. Now you will pay for your freedom in the currency of honest toil and human blood.
Another one of my favorites-
"Heroes of Armageddon! You have withstood the evil
savagery of the Orks, and they having nothing left for
you to fear. So raise high the black banners of
vengeance- now is our time."
- Commissar Yarrick
I'm pretty sure that's not an official quote, but still funny. But it's true because if it's something ork made it only works because they believe it does.
"Do not waste your tears, I was not born to watch the world grow dim. Life is not measured in years, but by the deeds of men."
-original Rogue Trader 40k flavor text
'Travellin' through space is boring. Well, boring unless da hulk yer on is full of dem gene-sneakers, or a base fer da chaos lads wiv da spikes, or already has Boyz on it. Or if humie lootas come callin', that's always good fer a bit a sport. Or unless yer have a mutiny or two to pass da time, or unless strange fings start happenin', which dey usually do when yer out in da warp. One time we had some bloody great ugly fing come straight out of Weird Lugwort's 'ed! It butchered half da lads, that was pretty entertainin'. Come ter fink of it, space is a pretty good larf. And that's before yer find yerself a nice world ta crush!'
or
'Right, first I'll take those teef out for yer, dat should help ease da pain in yer leg. Grokkit, hand me that wrench. Now then... Open wide, and say... AAARGH!'
Also this one, since i love my Kanz.
'Not enuff nails?
Nah, I put da little feller in upside down. '
- musing why his newly constructed dreadnought wasn't working
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also this one:
The only good 'ooman is a dead 'ooman. An' da only fing better than a dead 'ooman'z a dyin' 'ooman who tell you where ter find 'is mates.
From the Daemon codex:
'Understand Mortals, that every one of you, each of your so-called champions, is just a piece in the Great Game of our Masters.'
Why do we ride atop these elegant craft? The better to hear the screams of our prey as we ride them down, to savour the fear etched on their faces, to taste the tantalising tang of their blood in the air as an appetiser before the feast. But most of all we ride them so that the slaughter may begin as soon as possible. a DE quote
Reclusiarch Grimaldus of the Black Templars in Helsreach by Aaron Demski-Bowden:
“My tabard, the white of sun-bleached bone, offers a stark contrast to the blacker than black plate beneath. The heraldric cross stands proud on my chest, where Astartes of lesser Chapters wear the Emperor’s aquila. We do not wear His symbol. We ARE His symbol.”
"The universe has many horrors yet to throw at us. This is not the end of our struggle. This is just the beginning of our crusade to save Humanity. Be faithful! Be strong! Be vigilant!"
"No world shall be beyond my rule; no enemy shall be beyond my wrath."
@ Silentspy22 I am pretty sure it was "My faith is my shield".
But my favorite 40k quote comes from Gabriel Angelos, Captain of the 3rd company, Blood Ravens chapter.
"Learn what? Chaos does not teach! It misleads and it betrays, there is nothing here to learn save for our next course."
"Your foe is well-trained, well-armed, and battle-hardened. He believes the gods are on his side. Let them believe what they will. We have the tanks on ours."
Vandire's last words: "I don't have time to die! I'M TOO BUSY!"
Malcador to Garro: "You are a ghost. A figure standing between the dark and the light, trapped amidst the grey. And I have need of such a man."
"I AM THE HAMMER!/I AM THE HATE!/I AM THE WOES OF DAEMONKIND!/I AM THE HAMMER!/I AM THE HATE!/I AM THE END!" Bugger, forget saddling us with Draigo and making us the butt of every munchkin joke, the most unforgivable thing Matt Ward did was to cut the Canticle of Absolution out of the new GK book.
"Despair is an illusion of the mind, pain an illusion of the senses."
Also the variant of the opening text that involves "There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods."
It's definitely hard to pick with Ork Quotes. Most of my favorites are from Dawn of war when Gorgutz is bantering with the Other leaders before he crushes them.
another one I liked was "we better be going to a fight".
"Oomans are pink and soft, not tough and green like da Boyz. They'z all the same size too, so they'z always arguing about who's in charge, 'cos no way of telling 'cept fer badges an' ooniforms and fings. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it. Wot a lot of mukkin' about if yer asks me. An' while they'z all arguing wiv each other over who's da boss, da Orks can clobber da lot "
-your "friendly" neighborhood ork
"The Orks are the pinnacle of creation. For them, the great struggle is won. They have evolved a society which knows no stress or angst. Who are we to judge them? We Eldar who have failed, or the Humans, on the road to ruin in their turn? And why? Because we sought answers to questions that an Ork wouldn't even bother to ask! We see a culture that is strong and despise it as crude."
-Uthan the panzee
"The meaning of victory is not to merely defeat your enemy but to destroy him, to completely eradicate him from living memory, to leave no remnant of his endeavors, to crush utterly his achievements and remove from all record his every trace of existence. From that defeat no enemy can ever recover. That is the meaning of victory."
Anung Un Rama wrote: Something from the 3rd edition Ork Codex. I don't have it here, right now so I have to paraphrase:
Orks never loose. If we win, we win. If we die, we're dead, so that doesn't count. And if we run away, we can always come back for another fight.
If it's this one:
'Orkses is never defeated in battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!'
1.)Each must find their own way. if those in our heartland had witnessed the savagries of the void as have we they would know this. the hand of each of the great starfarers is turned against the other; none will join their strength to gether just to see their ancient enemies prosper. neather should we. -Farsight.
wanted to put this one up not sure if it counts its on page 53 of the ork codexso so farsights there first
2.)- Inbound:"dis is Nugrob da slayer callin' Igot me boyz wiv me. Fort you lot might want to make a deal. you give us athousand shootas each time we visit, and yer ain't got no more worries see?"
-Governor Kubris: "we'er not giving into your outrageous ultimatum - never!"
-inbound: "Shame about that, cos i got 'arf a dozen Dreadmobs and a couple a Gargants wiv me."
-pause-
-Kubris "Let us have a few hours to reconsider."
-inbound: "Nah, i feel like lettin' out the Gargants after all, har har har!"
"Blood calls out to Blood, so they say. Let us spill that of our enemies with all due haste, that we may hear its cry all the clearer." - Sergeant Arcula, Blood Angels 3rd Company
motyak wrote: I can't find it, every time this thread comes up I can't find it. But it goes something like this.
'As a counter measure, ducking doesn't really do that much. But it is comforting for a few seconds'
If all else fails: duck. As a defensive stratagem it's unreliable, but incredibly reassuring for a moment or two.
That the one?
Mine is this:
"To the Darkness I bring fire. To the ignorant I bring faith. Those who welcome these gifts may live, But I will visit nought but death and eternal damnation on those who refuse them."
Chaplain Grimaldus, Hero of Helsreach
Back home, I once fancied me a pair of Catachan Devil boots.
Killed me half a dozen of the great ugly critters but never found
a single one that wore any!
-Gunnery Sargent Harker
What is victory? Is it to defeat your enemy
on the field of battle? Is it to simply repulse
his armies and slay his misguided warriors?
No, this is only the very beginning!
True victory is to crush your foes utterly, to
shatter his armoured legions and run down his
fleeing troops as they scatter. Pursue them to
their lairs and burn them out. Burst into his
unholy temples, smash down his icons and
topple his foul idols. Burn his heretical works
and leave no stone upon stone. Slaughter his
followers, their families and their livestock lest
any of their taint remain. And when that is
done, put the ruins to the torch.
Any that have dealt with them or given them
succour must be obliterated, for memory is
insidious and though you have crushed their
will and their bodies they may yet return.
Send warrior scribes to eccise the records of
their name, expunge their deeds from the
annals of history and remove even the memory
of your foe's existence. Only then have you
truly won.
"We’re safe ’ere Gobbitz. There’s no way da beakies can get to us at the top of dis cliff..." - Last words of Gibli the Gretchin before being overrun by Space Marine Assault troops from the Salamanders Chapter
"Da best shoota I eva made, dat iz. Loadza barrulz, so dat it’s ded shooty. ‘Sept dat wun, ‘cos dat’s da skorcha, dat’s burny insted. Yeah, good an’ propa. An’ da bullitz is ‘splosiv...dey goez boom inna fings wot you’z shootin.’ An’ dat button dere...dat’s da best bit. Wot it duz, see, iz...iz...oh, zog. Nah, its nuffin’ boss. Nah, you’z don’t need ta see wot dat button duz...‘onist. Don’t push it! " - Last words of Nazdakka Boomsnik, Renowned Mekboy
"I’z smashed ‘umies an’ panzies an’ birdboyz an’ dogfaces; I’z gonna smash anyfing wot gets in my way, an’ take wotz left. I iz da biggest, ‘ardest boss in all da ‘Spanse, da biggest Kaptin ov Undred-Undred Teef, and nuffin kan stop me! -Morgaash Kulgraz, Kaptin of Da Wurldbreaka
Gorgutz: "You looks like an oomie dats needs some feeding, metal boy." Macabee: "We exterminated all life on this planet before, and we shall do so again." Gorgutz: "Dat woz before me Waaagh! got 'ere. Now, we is da wuns doin' da 'sterminating!" -Exchange between Warboss Gorgutz and Necron Pariah
"If a man dedicates his life to good deeds and the welfare of others, he will die unthanked and unremembered. If he exercises his genius bringing misery and death to billions, his name will echo down through the millennia for a hundred lifetimes. Infamy is always more preferable to ignominy."
-Fabius Bile

as taken form Gaunt's ghosts. The amazing understatement in what it actually means is fantastic. I love the subtlety and blatancy of it .
"I have always found that foreign travel narrows the mind wonderfully."
"The more I learn about these aliens, the more I come to understand what drives them, the more I hate them. I hate them for what they are and for what they may one day become. I hate them not because they hate us but because they are incapable of good, honest, human hatred."
"Some will question your right to destroy 10 billion people. Those who understand realize that you have no right to let them live"
An inquisitor of some sort
Anything from the Gaunts Ghosts series really (Abnett's great at creating character lines). From what I can remember though Lijah Cuu's synonymous, "sure as sure", was a pretty nice line....that's gotten me a few odd glances whenever I've used it publicly.
Hmn, need to look out some of those books to find a better one. XD
"The saint Sebastian Thor once said a man who has faith can overcome any obstacle, a legion of the faithful is unstoppable. ...Our enemy has a faith too, and they are without number", no idea what the source of that one was (and I'm sure I've got the wording wrong) , but it sparked as being extra heretical.
Cortez: "What's next?"
Kantor: "Nothing for you. You'll rest here until we can get an Apothecary here."
Cortez: "Not likely, I'm still in this. I'm fine."
Kantor: "No! You Lost an arm, Alessio. By the mercy of the Emperor alone, you're lucky you didnt't lose your life."
Cortez: (gesturing over Kantor's shoulder) "I haven't lost an arm, brother. It's right over there"
Oh, there's so many great ones to choose from, though I feel Chaos-aligned characters tend to say the coolest stuff.
"Your presence does not surprise me Assassin. I have known of you since your craft entered the Eastern Fringes. Why did I not have you killed? Because your mission and the act you are about to commit proves the truth of all I have ever said or done. I merely punished those who had wronged, just as your false Emperor now seeks to punish me. Death is nothing compared to vindication." ~ Konrad Kurze, moments before his death at the hands of Callidus Assassin M'Shen
"What is Chaos? Suffering, you might say. Oppression. Deceit. But could not all these things be said of your Imperium? You hunt down the talented and the strong-willed. You break them or sacrifice them. You lie to your citizens and wage war on those who dare speak out. The inquisitors you call masters assume guilt and execute millions on a whim. And why? Why do you do this? Because you know Chaos is there but you do not know how to fight it, so you crush your own citizens for fear that they might aid the Enemy. The Imperium suffers because of Chaos. No matter how hard you fight, that will never change. Chaos exists in a state of permanent victory over you - you dance to our tune, mortal one, you butcher and torture and repress one another because the gods of the warp require you to. The Imperium is founded on Chaos. My lord Tzeentch won your war a long, long time ago." ~ Ghargatuloth, Daemon Prince of Tzeentch
"Let the galaxy burn." ~ Horus Lupercal
"The difference between gods and daemons largely depends upon where one is standing at the time." ~ Lorgar Aurelian
"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us almost by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as prey." ~ Inquisitor Czevak
"Why weep comrade? Is it the blood we wade in? The thunder of the guns perhaps? Or this sodden corpse-hole of a trench? Friend, be of good cheer, our savior the Emperor has brought us to this fine world with its open skies and wide vistas, and as plentiful scavenging as I've ever seen, and all he asks is that we kill a few of those godless bastards yonder. Why, it is a fine thing, to be an Imperial Guardsmen!"
I murdered thousands for the Emperor and he gave me nothing but his damning silence. Now his lapdogs yap for every life I take, while the gods promise me the galaxy.
Your foe is well equipped, well-trained, battle-hardened. He believes his gods are on his side. Let him believe what he will. We have the tanks on ours.
Colonel Joachim Pfeiff,
Krieg 14th Armoured Regiment
"It is my belief that foreign travel narrows the mind wonderfully."
- Attributed to Helem Bosch
I remind this to myself everytime I board a plane.
And after being grounded for almost a moth and half by a wild strain of E. Coli I probably surely got via airport food, I'd say foreign travel not only narrows the mind but also loosens the bowels. Wonderfully.
"What do you humans know of our pain? We have sang songs of lament since before your ancestors crawled on their bellies from the sea" - Eldrad Ulthran
"Take care, lest your protests grow tiresome. I have asked for so little! Anyone would think I had asked you to sacrifice yourselves and all your family. And yet, in Slaanesh's boundless and pleasing mercy, I have asked only for your daughters. Surely you would not deny me my small enjoyments?"
- Tyrell, Renegade Lord of Arden IX
-I am Alpharius.
-I am Alpharius.
-We are all Alpharius.
-We are Alpha Legion, and we are all one.
commissar ciaphas cain.
I'm sure most of the men in the galaxy are familiar with the sinking feeling that accompanies the words "Do you think you could do me a little favour, darling?", but when the woman asking the question is an inquisitor it's even less wise than usual to say "No".
I like "Hah! Another world, another victory in the making for our gloriuos emperor!" from DoW Winter Assault or something.
It was said by a commissar if I'm right.
