I was impressed. To my eye they worked out a lot of the kinks we saw in the trailers. They're keeping the humor alive and the story has me interested. I look forward to more episodes! What do you think of it?
EDIT: They are also continuing to make some great music.
I can happily say that the things that irked me about the voice acting did not make themselves apparent in the episode Very much more anime in style than the trailers were (and I like that). Enjoy Ruby's personality. A little air headed but of the enjoyable kind. Not too much of a good thing if you will. Looking forward to more of this. And yes. The music is epic (bought the song btw, cause the guy who made it deserves some financial rewards ).
Only real complaint: Bee's knees? Really?
As an aside: Why the heck wasn't Glinda in any of the previews XD Way more impressed with her than White or Black.
They're going to bring bee's knees back. Just wait
I'll try to keep the thread updated, As far as I know Thursday is the update day for it. So hopefully new episode then. (Heard this from youtube so take it with a salt shaker)
Also having Jen Taylor do the opening was classy. Surprised the heck outta me when I heard her.

What's funny is that, apparently, the voice acting done for the first episode was done before the trailers!
Well, they fixed something.
And yeah, Junior in the yellow trailer was supposed to be voiced by Gavin, but Monty decided that his particular voice would be better suited to a different character, so instead Jack got his balls fondled.

Good call. I'm not sure I would be able to take a villain seriously if he were voiced by Gavin.
THe animation is pretty good for something without big bucks behind it made by a small studio. If RvB is any indication the quality will improve with time as they flush it out. Right now my main issue with the animation is its choppiness and the stiffness of the models. The most recent seasons of RvB though have been gradually improving on that front and I doubt RWBY will be different.
Personally, I am waiting for a few more episodes to be released before I make an informed opinion. For some reason I cannot seem to trust roosterteeth will make this a good show.
This may be because I found their previous work hard to find enjoy or laugh at the jokes.
While she seems stuck up now, i have no doubt that White will come good once the battles get underway. They'll do something to unite the four of them in some cheesy fashion.
It's kinda sad but i can already relate to John. He's a bumbling idiot, i'm a bumbling idiot. I can see myself liking him a lot in the near future.
It's certainly handy. Sure it's heavy, but at least it doesn't get in the way.
If I were him, I'd upgrade that sword with a disintegration field.
The fact that you have to build your own weapons is an interesting bit of lore. I wonder if they'll introduce a character with duel hand guns (firing dust powered bullets, naturally), since that seems to be a common thing in anime (Alucard, Revy, Brandon Heat, etc.)
The only thing that really bothers me so far is that all the lead actresses same a bit the same. Ruby sounds a bit like the heiress to me imo.
All pointy bits are created equal..... unless those pointy bits add +3 to str and dex or have lighning aspect... then they are better ... liking RWBY so far
Slarg232 wrote: To be fair, we don't know if the Sword does anything; he just stated the shield Sheath was collapsible.
If his great? Grandfather used it during the Great War, it's obviously serviceable
Against the monsters back then. The current ones might have learned to avoid the pointy bit
I bet the sword and shield are 100% Chekovs' guns. They'll become some sort of Vorpal/Ultima/Plot important weapon by the end of the series, if I know my anime tropes as well as I think I do.
I actually think the opposite, Array; his sword/board is going to be the only "non-special" weapon in the series, HE'S just going to become the ultimate badass.

I'm not sure he qualifies for "Bad Ass Normal", as his shield is still a "Powered" weapon, it's just not anything particularily special. If you know what I mean.
I guess with all the insane stuff Ruby and her compatriots pulled in the trailers, I already consider them super human. John by comparison seems fairly weak, but I guess we'll get to see
I bet he's going to be an expert swordsman who beats all of his enemies off screen, because it would be impossible to animate the sheer awesomeness involved
Yeah, the VA's a little rusty. Hopefully it will improve over time.
The animation is a bit odd, but I just blame that on inexperience. Roosterteeth isn't known to make their own animations, not exactly. It's one thing to take an existing game and make the characters move to your tune, but another to build everything from scratch. As with the VA, I believe the animation will improve.
Voice acting is still pretty poor, animations are... subpar, lots of floaty feet syndrom going on..
But most importantly.. it's just been boring.
To be fair, the first eight episodes of RvB weren't exactly action packed high quality material either....
I myself am finding it to be slightly boring, but that's because right now they are building up the characters and breaking you into the world. I'm sure in the next two episodes (Where we see Ruby/Weiss/Blake/Yang team up and Jaune gets his own team) it will pick up on the action a little bit.
Also, I did some digging on the show, and "John"'s name is actually Juane or Jaune (Don't remember the actual spelling), means "Yellow" in French (Could be his hair, or he's a coward), and his full name, Juane Arc, is actually a play on Joan of Arc. Could he be sacrificing himself sometime soon, or will he be a figure head for an entire army?

Yes, I noticed that bit of word play as well. So he either gets burned alive or somehow becomes a inspiring leader of a rebellion. Or like his namesake, both.
Why Yang though? How does Yang mean yellow? Weiss is German for white, Ruby is obvious, and Blake is a pun on black, but Yang? Am I missing something?

Yang is.... Japanese? Chinese? (Edit: The Word, not the character )
One of the two, her full name means something around "Little Dragon of the Sun".

I think calling Juane Arc word play is a little far fetched.. it seemed like a dumb name to slap on a male character to me.
In English it's Joan of Arc. Jeanne D'Arc is French.
Yes, and she was French, so, that was her name. Names aren't open to interpretation, that's why it's a name.
I don't suddenly become Josef because my name is Jos.
JOS! JOS! JOS!
Regardless, that's why they called him that
Weiss Schnee is apparently German for Snow White, so it's not like they aren't pulling stunts like that.
And Ruby Rose. That's an obvious one. Though if she is Yang Xiao Long's sister, wouldn't her last name be Long? It's a minor nitpick, but it still strikes me as odd.

ALL the time? does smashing heresy not give you joy
Also the humor in it so far is a little awkward but the situation shes in is awkward so its ok for now..... if ruby is one of those characters who is going to be continually awkward then im going to have a problem
Looks like were starting to get to the action. I'm liking the headmaster quite a lot. Finally starting to see some of the other characters as well. On the whole I'm still enjoying it.
As DA noted Ruby did see Weiss first, and Pirra hooked up with Jaune *Slarg's fanfic is just writing itself * But thats all that happened in that episode besides showing off their individual weapons which makes me sad
It's pretty much going as we all expected at this stage, though I'm glad to see this episode was longer than the last few. Just hope they can keep it up,
Wooo! Called Ms. Pyrrha Nikos and Jaune Arc teaming up. Hmmm the Greek goddess of victory and a Warrior Saint. Certainly brings Jaune having a lot of soul powah into a different light.
I think I like this team up more then I do any of the four lead characters XD.
Nora's definitely out there but I like her, her long suffering life partner Ren gets bonus points as a character for getting tossed around about as much Jaune after being established as "that insufferably cool guy" and again, he has Nora to deflate any attempt he makes at being bad ass.
Now some direct episode comments
Spoiler:
GO JAUNE! Holy crap, I thought he was eventually going to super saiyan on us and just hand down ungodly levels of smack down but it turns out like the Catholic warrior saint he's named for tactics and strategy might be more of his thing. He's only had reasonable personal and combat exposure to Ms. Nikkos, but he was able to put together a reasonably complex combat strategy and get it implemented in seconds. I mean... well Nora probably just thought her orders were fun and was just going along for the lulz, but the others had to have some inkling that Jaune knew what he was doing, or they wouldn't have listened.
- While Yang remains my favorite female, Jaune is my favorite character, and him with Pyrra is just too perfect.
- I have a feeling Jaune isn't going to go "Super Saiyan" (As that appears to be Yang's thing with her hair), but will end up getting "Battle Meditation" from Star Wars; he just kind of shows up and raises his own sides morale while lowering the enemies, swinging entire battles.
- I liked the Scorpion battle more than the DECAPITATIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON! simply because it gave me some serious Dragon Age Origins flashbacks:
"I loved my banner forty times better than my sword. And when I went against my enemy, I carried my banner myself, lest I kill any. I have never killed a man." In Her Own Words, p. 26
Joan has a reputation as a soldier, but her real skill was tactical/strategic planning, and boosting the moral of the army of an entire nation. Those combined talents single handled saved France.
Agreed. Weird as it is, I like Juane, Nora, and the red head whose name I can't spell a lot more than I like Weiss or Blake thus far. Juane is my favorite character. He's just to accidentally awesome.
Yes, the background team does seem to be the cooler of the two. Although i can see them maybe getting shuffled around at some point (maybe after the death of a character?)
Church "died" once. He was killed by Caboose. Granted, it was later changed so that he was an AI (who had a ghost...I really don't get that. I don't think they explained the whole AI thing very well :/)
RT rarely kills main characters. Even Donut came back from the dead seasons after his apparent demise. Secondary characters? Yeah they drop dead from time to time. The mains not so much.
Hmm i can see Nora being the one character who gets killed early on. She's too popular for her own good and i see the strength of her plot armour rapidily deminishing.
Ok i purpose we start a petition to send of to RT.
If we get 500 sigs then they need to start a show based around Nora and her leg breaking antics. She can be like a mob enforcer, but for the powers of good instead of evil.
I admit to being fond of the show, although it remains secondary to Homestuck and the That guy with the glasses (the site as a whole) in my "favorite internet things" so far. I'll set some time to watch past Episode 11 in the near future.
I must admit that the weapons are certainly very creative.
Well, I found Blake's VA to be as wooden as the last episode, but at least something is happening this time. Also, I have a feeling that the Monkey boy might be having a small fan following soon.
Just caught up, and I got to say, holy feth, Whoever is coming up with these weapons is doing a damn good job. Well done, just sad thats all we get for now.
For serious, we were teased with all these trailers about Team RWBY before the series started and they were all badass, and all the girls ran around kicking serious ass. The series starts off and about the middle we finally get to see them kick some ass....
And then....we end up with a bunch of other side characters that seem more interesting and powerful than our "mains" that are supposed to be the badasses of the show.
When are we gonna get to see Team RWBY kick some ass?
I can agree with the sentiment. For being the title characters, RWBY were on the sidelines for a decent chunk of the season. Now we have the guy with Gun-Chucks competing for time too. Granted I enjoyed the season. I just agree it comes off as a little weird.

That's exactly how I felt throughout the season.
And Blake, her trailer was badass with Adam, and hijacking a train and all that cool stuff, and then she gets all googly for monkey boy because she has ears? Like...WTF? What about Adam and whatever his organization/motives and that whole trailing backstory that is infinitely more cool than another weird anime cliche "main' character?
I'm sure Adam is part of the White Fang. You know how Weiss was talking about how her company's trains are robbed? You remember in the Black trailer how Adam wanted to kill those crew members and Black didn't want any of that?
I imagine that, as the trailers were being made, perhaps the story was still in flux and wasn't complete. That would explain why the trailers take place at unspecified times in the story line.
Exactly. Didn't someone already mention that the train attacks Weiss mentions are exactly what Blake's trailer was about?
Exactly, Only one I felt might have happened before the story is Ruby's but as we see she's quite capable even before finishing the school they are at.
