Greetings folks I am quite new to this I started hobby in 2012. I've been following warhammer 40k since first dawn of war though.
When I moved to another place it become possible to me to create a low budget chaos army.

Here in this blog I will keep record of how much I spent for varuis things and I will show progress if my minis. I am not too good at this, I am really just starting it.

What I spent so far
For Minies and bits: £91. 55

I have mostly normal space marines I have mange to obtain quite large army for less than 30 pounds, with dred, and seven space marine bicycles.
Later on I will put some more details, and some fluff around them. I am planing to create custom chapter.

Colour: Different distribution of black and white, with copper rims.
Speciality: Recycling and scavenging , cultists, alliance with many xeno races.

Homeworld: unknown, speculated to be exterminated forge world.
Alignment: chaos undivided
Allied with: Crimson brotherhood, Alpha Legion, Night lords, several mercenary bands,
Worst enemies: Iron hands, Black Legion, Grey Knights, Red Corsairs
Gene Seeds: Black Legion, Ultra marines, Blood Angels,

Enlighten legion.
Formed by sorcerer Nihialus which, hedonistic sorcerer wanted to achive greatens like every chaos sorcerer. He decided to split away from black legion and form a new legion, powerful enough to destroy lord Abaddon. He never achieved this task, yet he managed to form a strong aliance for several years.
Notable campaigns.
-Invasion on Tarnon III. Tarnon III was small backwater feudal world. It was easy pray for young legion. Planets itself later become arid daemon world. Several champion of Enlighten legion are originated from mentioned planet. This was most successful campaign of Legion and only fully successful one.
- Conquer and extermination of Mechram IV. Mechram IV was small imperial forge world. Beginning of the campaign went in favour of the Legion. Almost whole planet has been quickly converted to chaos, however this world was supplying various space marine chapters on regular basis. Later the chaos break out has been discovered by small Ultramarine force, however whole force has been killed or converted into chaos space marines. However ultramarines managed to send distress call for help and larger forces of Iron Hands arrived. Legion has been broken. Nihailius ordered to retreat into maelstrom. Only few ships managed to get away. The retreating fleet meet it’s destiny from hands of red corsairs which spotted easy prey. Only one capital ship managed to escape red corsairs but it never was seen again in imperial space. This campaign is told to be end of the legion.

Nice builds, Whiskered! We may be pulling inspiration from one another in the future. Where is the mechano-claw arm on your Missile launcher guy from?

Well the idea behind him was that he lost arm and he have been forced to carry missile launcher, as it is only weapon he could use with his new arm.

First of my sorceror ex librarian. With force staff and combi flamer. I called him Graham Steel skull. I might work on him a bit.


Some bikers. They are still being worked on and I decided that all of them will have dark eldar hair, expect their champion.




New raptor and csm holding terminator helmet. Damn I need to put so much work on raptors and well that csm misses one shoulder pad, the truth is that I run out of them.

Your stuff looks great dude, I really like the bikers, good use of chaos bits in unique positions.

Detail of your warband is always good. I did have a question for you though. are you planning on building everybody then painting or doing so many then painting i found building in batches and painting in batches helps me get through esp with the regular dudes. I really like your take on the bikers. keep up the good work i'll be watching this.

I don't now relay yet sire. I don;t paint them at home as I don't have all necesarry stuff. I will write down some fluff once I have some time.
Well also I have progress to demonstrate five chaos cultists.


They still need some of a gap filling and adding details. Sadly there won;t be soon more of reptilian cultists as I run out of reptilian right legs and heads. Damn I will try to get some more. Also that one with necron's leg is meant to have prosthetic leg, given by some dark apothecary as cruel joke. I will add some details with GS or something similar.

Well I might try in future, now I must deal with what I have first. I have tried to paint some models but they look just awful. I might post pics soon.

well just remember to thin your paints and take your time there are some really good tuts on this site if you think you need help with painting youtube also has some good things too. best of luck.

You wanted you got it. I told you that you are awful and they are unfinished. I have mostly problems with accuracy. Well tell me what do you think.

not bad...couple of finger prints but that will go away with time looks like you got the thin your paints thing down...the only thing i can see that needs work is the metallics but thats kinda hard as gw paint metalics suck when they come out either too thick or too think well practice and patience

Not too bad dude, just practise and you'll improve quickly. Also, remember. Washes are your friends. A quick ink wash hides so many minor imperfections.

What are thees washe exactly? Also some of the inperfections are caused by crap quality brushes leaving visible bristle strokes.

well a wash is a thinned down ink you put on your model to give it definition...makes the model stand out more if your interested in one get arjax earthsade works pretty well for most things

I have questions, are csm with close combat weapons worth making?

well you could always mark them for khorne and give them a bp and a cc and go and hack everything up i usually just shoot stuff but its really up to you man how do you want to make your warband.

I dont like close combats units too much and I have already possesd and terminators, and raptors.

hmm after thinking I will go Csm's with bolters.

Enlighthen Legion or Legion of Enlighment.

They are chaos undivided. They dont see that one god is better than other. However some want to focus on some gods.

In certain case they are, they prefer to " convert " things " peacfully" instead attack just ahead. It is caused only by their low numbers and lack of supply, marines and gene seeds. They are "succesors" from black legion.

They tend to use land speeders and other newer technology ( I will only use them if oponent will alow me to do so) also xeno weapons, they must use what ever they have to survive

Tau pulse carbine
Dark eldar splinter cannon
Dark eldar splinter rifle
Dark eldar splinter pistol

Cant give you the stats I dont think because of forum rules :/ but the stats for all are in the main rulebook, except the carbine with now has an extra shot

Hey guys I know what I will do I will just make CSM with close combat weapons and give each red shoulder pad, so in some deployment I will use 'em as berserkers. I have some content to put in here. Preaper for loads of pics today.


This is what I have still to strip from paint and break down eventually. I use dettoll and for bits of paint which didn't came of I am Using nail polish remover or krudd kutter depends on a amount of leftovers.

Looking good my friend. As for using land speeders, I'd play against them happily. I find it hard to believe that in 10000 years of permanent war, the forces of chaos haven't managed to steal at least a few of them.

I'd love to play against that army (and thrash them with the might of the Imperial Guard!), but I must see painted infantry! I'm interested to see your colour scheme and take on these sweet conversions ;3

I find it real odd that chaos space marines cannot use such things. I feel like when whole chapter goes rouge all their land speeders, whirlwinds, drop pods and sniper rifles just break down to pieces.

Additional some progress. Quite terrible to be honest I don;t like how my terminators came out and also I lack ideas how to decorate them. That armless one is supposed to carry ripper auto cannon, once I get it on my hands. Also I am out of bases for them. I could use small bases for em but I prefer to keep it constant.



Also bonus for all of ya. I have stareted drawing a decal for my land raider which I will later print off and stick to it. This is just a loin cloth,

well to be fair, when games workshop put them out it wasnt so much of rouge chapters as it was the big offenders (the ones int he heresy) so thats what they are based off of i think however bl and forge world seem to have the same idea and they had a lot more crap back then. i dunno though just a thought

Yesterday I obtained handful of bits for 0.75 pounds.
Worth it or not?
Also I have forgotten to mention earlier that I bought Krud Kutter to remove paint for 2.20 pounds.

Well worth the 75p dude. As for your lack of bases, try Perspex/plastic sheeting. Old cd cases work well. Simply draw round the desired size base, then cut it out and paint it whatever colour you choose.

So well I am starting uni soon and I won't have much time for working on this stuff.

Then here have some progress five CSM with clsoe combat weapon wearing fantasy coats and two havocs one with autocannon and laser cannon. One of the close combat guys have chain spear.

No dude, just no. Under no circumstances should you buy gw's glue. For plastic glue I'd recommend humbrol liquid poly, it's around £2-£3 a bottle for enough to assemble a full army.
For superglue, even pound shop stuff is better than the gw rubbish.
It says a lot about the quality of a product when the company's own staff don't use it.

Ps. Love the auto cannon guy in the bottom pic. I've never seen a heavy weapon posed that way before.

Right but does that liquid poly stick metal and resin?

It won't work on resin or metal, you'll need super glue for that, but for sticking plastic to plastic it's amazing stuff.

Well never mind my question about glue as I manage to obtain revell's Liquid glue for plastic, two bottles. With black and white paint and some good files.
For glue and paints I gave 2.00 Pounds.
For files 1.50 Pounds.

Now I will be able to scrap insignias from old metal death company minies and add them to my army.

Well I have still plenty of construction elements aand un striped minies. Yet I lack four jetpacks, and two chaos packs pacjs for possed. Now I have plenty of good heads but somehow I run out of legs.

Also I dont have any single mealt gun.

I can still manage without them. I am also keep hunting for them in my nearby bits shop yet they are rare. I was just feeling down due certain circumstances at home and my creativity died, I might upload soon something.

I can't help with the jet packs I'm afraid, but I can let you have some (badly painted) back packs, and 4 pairs of vanguard veteran legs from the new pack. Plus I have some other bits going spare. On a more personal note, I hope your home circumstances improve soon dude.

Hi guies I have some progress. I have managed to pull out two new total generic looking CSM new winged sorcerer out of honour guard ultramarine and I practised some with paint. Mostly I was just striping paint from remaining models. Thanks for care mates it means to me a lots.




Both are painted by my mum these are her first painted minis and well take into account it is extremely butcherer mini it did't took too well stripping.

Your conversions are inspiring and I'll say that as a fellow Chaos modeler / player I am distinctly impressed with how you haven't spent a small fortune on miniatures and are using what you have available (or buying inexpensive beat up models) and the vision you have displayed here epitomizes what I see as Chaos that has been tainted and warped in extreme ways. No cohesion, no 'rank and file'; every model is unique and worth looking at individually. This is a great project, thanks for sharing it.

I have to apologies for lack of update in recent days. Thank you all for support and kind word. When I was starting this I felt as second category person as I could't afford new minies. Now I am fine with this thanks to you kind community of Dakka.

If you have access to green stuff, you could give them tabards and loin cloths. That may help convey the cultists theme.

To be honest, no not yet, I never did anything with it realy. So the results would be quite awfull.

That they are bipedal reptilians w/ opposable thumbs makes them stand out as (at very least) Mutants, which are the bastard children of Chaos. But since I know that's not the answer you are looking for modeling-wise, have you considered things like simple icons / plates that they could share in common?

In the end, unless you have *HEAVILY* converted models, someone is always going to say "Hey, look!!! Space Lizards!'

Actually I've been thinking about these lizards as tribe of beast men which joined them, than mutated humans.

I have bought my self Earth shade and sycrax bronze for 4.32
And also pile of bits for 2, sadly non of them are legs and just one chaso backpack.

Also I bought my self warhammer 40 k book titled "eisenhorn" for 1. It is also woth to mention that I have 3rd edition codex for 0.50

All that for US $3.62? You scored! Power Fist, multiple helms, old Ork Chainsword, backpacks, shoulder pads, etc... yes, good deal for sure. I especially like the arm in the top right holding the WFB Zombie banner staff. You should use it as a 'counts as' Power Maul. Ha.

I have have added these chainsaws into my dred's arm.
Over some bits I am still thinking what i could do, but most probably I will just decorate existing ones for now.

Wow. That's really cool. You did a great job w/ it. I especially like how the drive rod for the original chain sword now looks like hydraulic pistons. I'm going on and on but I'm genuinely impressed.

Someone might say that you should have flipped the chains so they were inside. No way. The spikes are Chaos adornments. The inside of the claw is where the action is.

very cool dread arm man. digging them not too sure how i feel about the bret head the gargoyle on top is a nice touch. do you have any special weapons from waht i seen of your army you lack them. keep up the good work man.

you can make a frak ton of havocs with all those heavy weapons...and a squad of ten can have double plasma so thats a start double plasma is kinda scary just a though dunno what to say about the heavy flamer arm thats just a random bit till you make five termies and can slap it on some one.

I said it wrong. Weapons mention on the list are already assambled with some guys.
I have still some more spare of special weapons.

And for that Breton I am going to give him pair of lighting claws.

Also there is my close combat squad/ berserkers. Any good?

Man I envy those who can model after ebay rescues. The cost to in taxes to get those here is depressing. It's cheaper by a new kit or model.

Seven possesed. I managed to get 5 of them for 10 quid, but htey were brand new and two were donated from user Tomcat. Thank you very much Just to finish them fully I need two backpacks and five chaos shoulder pads.

you have to be shrewd and lucky. I bought a bunch of space wolves that some guy had ditched after 5th edition and got tons of melta, plasma, and heavy bolters. Also look for multimeltas and infernus pistols as they are usually easier to get and you can kit bash them to what you want.

Right i will show that guy from side once I get to home, just take note that he fell off from his base and now he is tilted and well dont look that,impresive anymore.

I am wisiting place where I get bits once few weeks and I never saw there any meltas sadly.

Heh thanks. I am also trying to build twin linked heavy bolter and reaper out canon but I have no idea how to.

The multimelta arm was made from assault cannon and land speeders multimelta and laser canon was made out of predator's turrets and dered's missile launcher.
Next I am going to upload just more dudes.

Wow. That Dread looks excellent, and good job on the magnetization. Your entire army to date is excellent.

All of my Dreds are magnetized as well and it really helps w/ the armaments for each game as all I have to do is select my weapons and put them on.

I paid for all of that 10 quid with shipment cost. I have to strip all of that hand I will try to dissasamble it. I have a question what editon are these plague marines ? And was it worth it?

They're 2nd edition plague marines.

I'd say what you got there was worth it, definitely. Paint stripping is a pain in the backside, but you've saved a fair bit of money there.

I dont mind paint,striping I alfeady did this to whole my army s so I have plentyexpiriance in this field, and also I have plenty of chemical reagents left.

I've been thinking alltime what is should do out of my servotors and scouts. Idea about making cultists out of them wasnt that good. So I decided to make out of them chaos servotiors and chaos scouts. After all scouts could be corrupted as well. If we would ever play, would anyone allowed me to use thers units using space marine codex for them ?

Well I don't comment on some peoples mines, many people have no idea about lore behind all of that or are not bothered about it at all.

Derp. Ok, just got close up. Paint looks a bit thick. You may want to try thinning your paint a small bit, and maybe got for layers instead of one coat (if that is what you are doing).

Well I do thin them always before using and I do put it with layers, how much depends.

Lots of heavy weathering, plus oil leaking from the armours joints. Use cheap inks to achieve this.

I am including photos of a heavy stubber cultist and my custom hero, called Noxius The Hunt Master. I am preapering also his reutine and rules. Well he could always be used as some champion or I don't know what else. I have bit problem what arm I should put there and about colour scheme, I ve been thinking maybe I should paint each armour piece like it's original chapter or should I paint it like rest of my legion.

your special character is looking cool man...your last pic is kinda blurry so kinda hard to tell whats going on.

at any rate happy new year and merry xmas (belated).

i think the shoulder pads should be done in the warbands colors cause if you do the original chapter it reminds me too much of death watch, but that is my thoughts on the subject.

I was highly occupied by lurking within mealstorm and getting any scrap I could get, I was also quite busy also recruiting fresh warriors, now I can resume with a bit more regular work.

From other news I have bought three new painting brushes for 2 quid and pile of new bits for 3. Also I have fully finished painting first chaos champion, and created couple of new minions.

I've checked it you are right sadly. I wanted to turn one of the ravenwing bikes into bikes for sorcerer.

Greetings ladies and gentlemen, I am sorry ofr lack of updates I am still busy with course works and other events in my life, but nothing to worry about.

From minies I am at painting right now my berserkers, I am also about to make at least two more of them.
Also I have created seed for rubric marines, but it will take a while until I'll be able to make full squad of them due lack of space marine chest pieces and legs. Well, I have plenty of marines from starting set however they are almost compllet and exchange of head is not an option.
I am presenting photos as well just below of berserkers and aspiring sorcerer and blasted banner. Enjoy and comments are always welcome. By the way does any one have any hints how to make berserke's coats more interesting. Also I am bit stuck with painting a skin and face, I have down base skin colour but I am unsure how I should paint mouth and eyes.

So today I was on a carboot and I found this oddity.




This is some starting set for discontinued game, in perfect condition and never used. Comes with paints and some scenery. Now I ask what I should made out of it. It would be easy to build sentinels out of it and use some of the bits as noraml warhammer bits. Heavy machine guns from this game looks exactly like heresy era auto cannons. I could also kit bask infantry into some cultists.

What do you people think about that ?

I have a question in which forge world book are covered rules for renegades? Can I place renageds along normal csm ? I wanted to make renegades out of dark vengeance cultists.

I am using purity seals as some sort of binding wards, and yeah I didn't had too many suitable bits for them but I tried to roll with what I got. So I have brought to order my predator and rhino both demios pattern. Thees poor things were very badly messed up. I have stripped paint and removed plenty of dirt from the rhino. Photos included and opinions would be welcome. Some bad man burned that predator and given it too me for free.

This is a top of it with IG issue autocannon and exchangeable havoc launcher.

used old school search light for it. Sadly the turret is glued to frame and I could do nothing about it.

but I ma not 100% happy with those

Very interesting last mode, I would love to see more angles. Size wise I think no problem with it being a drone, and it has the appropriate 2 reactors with a gory thing in the middle shape. I'd recommend to keep on chaotificating the tau bits and you should have a brilliant looking drone !

I do agree with you on that, Especially when I don;t have to spend that much on them.
I am planning to practice modelling with milliputy and thicken the arms and add some chaos bits onto the engines. I need to add some guns and model an eye too.

I am very sorry for the delays people but I have lost internet connection, and I was unable to submit new pics.
I have done some milliput work with the plague drone in mean time and it looked terrible, I will show you my results later.

Since it looked like ass, I have decided to practice some sculpting and did the following, It's a first time I am doing something like that, so some feedback or hitns would be welcome.
I am planing to finished her and paint. I know it won;t be excellent model, but looks decent I think.
