Thanks, TheDraconicLord! I should really fix my banner, now that you mention it!
Heres another Lizard~
I tried to use hot glue to emulate water dripping off of him(her?). I'm not too sure about it though, anyone have a better way of making "water drops" on minis?
Heres a WIP of my new Librarian to go along with my other one:
I think you already did a terrific job I remember reading tutorials about something similar, dripping blood. One technique, IIRC, was using a hair. You would glue the hair and then you would... and this is where it gets fuzzy, I don't remember if you just paint with "normal" acrylic paints or use a paint like Tamiya Red.
But man, that Skink looks damn good! I like how his eyes are just a big red glowing blob. EEEEEVIIIILLLL
The librarian is starting to look cool. Just drill those damn barrels!
I have an idea for my Tau army... Its where I use different suits of poker cards to designate the force org selections!
ie: Hearts for HS, Diamonds for Elites, Spades for FA and Clubs for Troops.
Each unit will have their own #, so my Hammerhead would be Ace of Hearts, Crisis Team would be Ace of Diamonds, Pathfinders would be 2-3 of Spades.... etc.
Why do I get the impression that Crisis Commander paint job is based on a certain Mech anime? Looks good considering all that white... white *shivers* what a pain in the butt.
@TheDraconicLord: I didn't even notice I did him in Gundam-ish colors! Yeah, the white is pretty horrible, lol. So many thin layers..... My Eldar allies are going to be Harlequin themed, and I've been wanting to grab the Shadowseer model for a LONG time.
@Mould2k: Thanks! The Skinks are really fun to paint, and are great canvases for bright colors
Heres a Air Caste Pilot:
And one of the Fire Warriors:
I'm not too happy with the Fire Warrior. The paints a bit thick and the colors are a bit jumbled up. Oh well
Some interesting work on here. I'm a fan of your Mephiston conversion, definitely one of the more original takes on the idea that I've seen. I would love to see a whole army done in a similar style, sort of mid-mutation and succumbing to the black rage.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Interesting idea with the card designations on your tau units. I can't say I would have gone that route, especially since there aren't enough suits to cover the entire range of FOC categories, but it's still a novel idea.
Happy New Year! I hope you guys had as much fun as I did. Had a bit too much to eat
First up, I got my Riptide done! He's probably gonna need some cleanup, but he's tabletop ready!
You'll notice he has a Railgun instead of the usual Ion Accelerator - theres just so many people that use Riptides in my gaming group that I had to find a way for mine to be different!
Here's the first Broadside team built w/out drones. The middle needs snow and grass on his base, but is pretty much done.
I hope you like what you see! As always, C&C + comments are always appreciated!
Here is my first Broadside squad! I still need to finish the rest of the drones, but the battlesuits are done! I ran out of white glue, so I'll put the snow and the flock later.
Sorry for cruddy pics! I'll retake some more when the bases are 100% done.
I made a new buff commander, and I like him a bit more than my old one All he needs is some flock and he's 100% done.
Here are some WIP for my next Broadside squad. I wanted some action poses for these guys.
I made a Void Shield Generator too! A lot of the local players have started mixing in Stronghold Assault and Escalation into their games, so I decided I needed to up my game!
Size comparison:
And last but not least, a Blood Angels TDA Librarian!
The new commander looks ace too, but why does he have a dragon hatchling ? (Nice touch though )
Also, I love the objective marker... what is the main, circular component ? I'll DEFINITELY have to STEAL that idea
Less sold on the TDA Librarian... I think it's just the head : BA are supposed to all get perfect, angelic features after their induction as Space Marines (lose all the deformities from Baal's radioactivity, etc...), so the beard just seems weird.... But the rest of the model is great !
Thanks for the comments, Yggs! The little dragon is meant to be a gift from the Eldar Corsairs that my Tau fight with It's also a "rank designator" of sorts, as red is the command color for my sept. I feel you on the Libby, I kinda needed something simple to make him stand out from my other Terminators other than the blue. I'll probably find something better soon though
I made the marker from the body of the Heavy Burst Cannon from the Riptide kit A few bits a bobs from the Broadside kits, some shoulder pads to make it look sorta stable, and the Riptide shield on top to give it a "generator" look.
Here's a group pic of my Buff'o and my first squad of Broadsides, with all the snow and flock down! Thank goodness for white glue!
I'll be getting my box of Kroot tomorrow, so I'll try to get those up ASAP!
Really like those Blood Angels Luc, and those last tau battle suits really look great together!
I did a tutorial on how I do my checkerboards a while back, it's linked in my sig. You might check it out, I think it might help make things easier for your (it's a great look too).
Thanks for the compliments, Gitsplitta! My BA are slowly waiting for reinforcements..... I'm hoping to get 2 Fire Raptors done for them by the summer.
Here is a Kroot hound I made! I don't quite like the actual models, so I used the Fenrisian Wolves with a few adjustments.
Next up, I have Ice's GMS ready to be sent out! I need to get a white base on him, but he's done. He's a Storm Warden, a chapter I've always wanted to have an army of but never got around to it.
The pic came out a bit blurry, but I assure the lightning bolts and white are a lot sharper Does anyone have any recommendations on how to ship the individual marines?
I've shipped models several different ways. A model like that you could probably ship in a bubble wrap lined envelope. If you have a model with more delicate bits like back banners and such I usually use one of the post offices small boxes, which is what I'll be sending my marine to you in.
Its time to ask the important question though Lucarikxs. What did you name him?
Ok, I haven't visited your blog for a while and this was a nice surprise
That Tau Commander is so sexy. So freakin' sexy. Your idea of adding that critter makes him so unique and cool looking, wow. Not to mention the color scheme. I'm really not a fan of weathering, I like my minis perfect, but to each his own
I really like the Kroot hound. The white fur together with the red contrast looks gorgeous.
Hey guys, time to update! I've been so busy with school lately, I haven't been able to update, but alas, I'm here to do it now!
I've gone to 2 tournaments within the last month - OwlCon and my local Throne of Skulls.
At OwlCon, I did fairly abysmally! I had to play vs a Beastpack, Rush Daemons, and Serpent Spam, so it was really tough, but I had lots of fun! I ended getting last place, but I got Best Sportsman! I was pretty happy with my prize, which was a LEDV box!
At ToS, I actually did pretty well. After getting tabled game 1 because of some stupid tactical choices on my part, I went on to win second place! I got the 'hugging' Chaplain and the Crisis Suits I'll show below!
I'll be preparing for WGC in the months to come, so I'll be posting more and more of my Tau stuff.
Enough wall of text, more pictures!
I hate the stock XV8s, so something serious had to be done, lol!
Additionally, I stripped most of my BA to make them into Night Lords, which I'll show in the coming weeks! I have about 80 marines with Bat Helms to show off (not kidding!), so expect pics of them very soon!
Hey guys! Just got back from the doubles tournament! Sadly, my phone died, so I couldn't get any pics..... But!
My partner and I got 1st place!
Our first game was against CSM + Necrons. The had Lucius + 2 Noise Marine squads + 2 Heldrakes and Illuminor Szeras + 20 Warriors + Immortals in Scythe + Immortals on foot + 2 Anni-barges. The mission was Purge the Alien as primary and The Scouring as secondary. The game was called at the end of T5 due to time. We actually did not lose a single unit the entire game! I'm not even kidding. They had a Night Scythe, Anni Barge, and 3 Noise Marines left at the end of the game.
Our second game was against a Taudar list. It was BuffCommander + 2 Ion Riptides + Broadsides + 2 Kroot Squads + Sky Ray and Spirit Seer + Wraithknight + 3 Dire Avenger w/ Wave Serpent + Jetbikes. The mission was Relic primary and Big Guns Never Tire secondary. We were able to shuffle the Relic so far into our army they never even got the chance to get it, even when they won the roll to Infiltrate first. We did lose secondary due to a last minute turbo-boost from the Jetbikes.
In our third and final game, we were playing for 1st place! Our opponents had Grey Knights/Inquisition and Ultramarines. Their army was Coteaz + 2 Henchman Squads with Jokaro and PC Servitors + Acolytes + DCA/Crusader deathstar + 2 Inq w/ Divination and Librarian + Sternguard in DP + 2 Tac Squads in DP + 2 Thunderfires. This game was absolutely brutal! The mission had 6 objectives worth 1 point each, and you only got the points you scored. The game was very tense, but we were able to pull through with a 3-0 win!
We went undefeated, which was really awesome! I think the organizer has some pics he'll post later, so I'll at least try to get those in, as well as more detailed reports. If anyone's interested, I can post our list as well! My partner was Jon Willingham, who got second place at the FoB Invitational. I was really honored to have him on my team
We also wore matching shirts!
Took a while to make, especially since the I kept messing the transfers up when I printed them, lol.
Ok, I promised NL pics! Not much so far, but here's my test figure!
I really like how the terror marking turned out! I'm not sure if I want to freehand it on every model though. I have 7(!) Chaplains (Skull helms, ornate armor) put together as sergeants, so I hope I'll have a scary looking force.
I'm building the army to be used in 40k and HH, so I'll have some more variety in my blog soon
I really like that moritat. Where's the melta gunners backpack? For my 2 cents on the melta guy, you may want to try adding another metallic color or something onto the weapons. They look unfinished, at least at this angle.
Thanks Ice! The Meltagunner isn't quite done yet, so the backpack will be done later. The pic is from a weird angle, but the weapons are silver with white/grey casings
Also, here are some pics of our army from the tournament! Sorry about the blurriness! Next time, there will be LOTS of pics
Its in the 1st book. It's basically a 'lone wolf' character. He has a rule called Chain Fire where he gets another shot for each hit. Double plasma pistols and BS5 make this guy a very dangerous fellow
Wont he wound himself out at some point? If the only way to miss is a 1, and he keeps getting shots, hes going to take 2 gets hot eventually (I mean, armor save and stuff not withstanding).
Ok, I grabbed a Riptide over the weekend! I wanted to convert it a bit, but I still wanted to keep the overall 'structure'. The only viable option was to do a slight re-pose!
I have him holding the HBC like that so it looks a bit heavier.... I did it mostly to look cool, though
I probably won't update till this coming weekend, so I'll leave you guys with this shot:
Thanks for the input, TDL! I wasn't too sure about about the weathering when I started, but it really grew on me My NL will definitely be a lot less weathered!
Speaking of NL, here is my new Legion Praetor. I just have him zenithal primed at the moment, but I'm hoping to throw some paint on it soon.
Love the pose of the new Riptide... but I'm mostly amazed at your Night Lords !
Where did you find all your "wingy" bits ?
I'm currently reading Tome 3 of the excellent (like, almost better than the HH series) Night Lords trilogy by Aaron Dembski-Bowden, and Night Lords are just filling my mind ATM !!
Its been about 2 weeks since I've updated, but I haven't forgotten about this thread at all! I'm prepping for Finals, but after that I'll be heading to the Alamo GT in May! If anyone else is going, just look for the weathered Tau and a shirt with Tauriffic on it
I've got some Kroot to show off soon, but here's a little project of mine that I really enjoyed doing!
It's my Ordos Xenos Inquisitor! I wanted to do something silly with the Servo-Skulls, so I thought that Orks would be the best choice
Thanks for looking, and as always please leave feedback!
Edit: I just noticed this was the 100th reply to the thread!
Thanks Gits! I wanted to make them all Ork heads, but I couldn't find another "eye" piece. Those four models are probably one of the most useful units I've used so far in the game!
Here's a group shot of my HQs for Alamo! Buff Commander, Ethereal, Inquisitor, and both Rune Priests!
Finished 22 Kroot to a 3 color standard(12 still need basic basing):
Here's what they'll look like when I get around to detailing all of them:
Got my Henchmen for my Inquisitor done:
And last but not least, touched up some NL! These were primarily painted by a good friend of mine, but I did some touchups here and there. Not much to change, though!
Thanks for looking! I'm gonna be doing some practice games at the LGS tomorrow, so I'll definitely report on how that goes.
Thanks Gits! I have no pics sadly, but I did get in some good games! I played against my friends Daemon list, which composed of a Keeper of Secrets, 4 squads of 15 Plaguebearers, 4 Herlads of Nurgle with FNP (one on Palaquin and holding the Grimiore), and 3 Slaanesh Princes.
The first game was Big Guns w/ 3 objective with Vanguard deployment. The game went on 7 turns, but it managed to get a victory after killing all the DPs and sending my Skyray to contest last minute. My Burst Riptide failed every Nova check that game and brought himself down to 1 wound! The game ended 9-5 in my favor.
The second game we played was Relic and the long deployment. I got extremely lucky with JoTWW on my Rune Priest and managed to kill the Keeper and a Prince in one shot! I ended up having to charge all my Riptides into combat to keep him from the Relic, as I couldn't kill all the Plaguebearers in time. I got a 2-1 victory from the Secondaries at the end.
I'm currently basing all of my models ATM, so I'll post pictures of the entire army (fully painted and based!) soon.
Couldn't agree more, Gits! My opponent absolutely refused fail his 5+ invs and FNP. I did 50~ wounds to one Plaguebearer squad and he only lost 4!
Ok, now for the fun part - I finished the army (well, except for 1 Drop Pod, but that'll be done soon)! I can't say how happy I am with it.... I'm glad I found a color scheme I was finally happy with. Without further ado, here are the pictures!
Can't believe I finished it over the weekend....... Thanks for looking and as always, leave feedback!
Thanks Yggs! For one, I had all the models painted. The fluff explanation is mostly due to the fact that my Tau are considered renegades by the rest of the Empire (they are part of the Farsight Enclave), and we wanted show the Empire the truth about the Ethereals We found the Night Lords quite useful in, uh, motivating, some of the worlds we invade to join us. The Inquisitor is a Radical of course, hiding in the shadows to see if there might be a Tau civil war!
I'd also like to mention that I used the GW texture paint to base most of my models. I didn't think it looked too good to start out with, but for the smaller models it works great! Just a Agrax wash and some flock on top made it look exactly like if I had used sand. Would recommend!
OK, that's what I thought. My only concern is that it basically still looks like a poker chip. If you're going to bother pating them... make them look like something that isn't a poker chip.
Hey guys! Whoa, it's been over a month since I've updated this blog. Summer classes have been eating most of my time, but it's time to update!
First of all, Alamo results! I went 2-3 (no good pics sadly). I made a lot of critical errors during critical turns (forgetting to Nova charge, not moving), so I definitely have a lot to improve on! I wasn't too impressed with the SW allies, and I think I'll just go back to pure Tau, especially with the 7th edition changes.
I'm taking a small break from competitive gaming to let it settle down a bit, and to watch how TOs are gonna be handling things. As much as I enjoy playing in tournaments, I think it's best to sit it out until I know for sure what's going on.
Lastly, I started a new project! I know, technically 3 and we're only halfway through the year! The Night Lords are a good force already (not really painted though), and I've found them to be a bit.... boring to paint. So much dark blue and really nothing else. My Tau are in a good shape, as I only have 3 more Broadsides to finish up. I want to grab more Kroot and some of the FW Tetras, but they're a good 1850 force as it stands. It's been a while since I've had a real marine army (my BA were the last), so I decided to make another marine army. I'm not a big fan of any of the current color schemes, so I made my own! With help with some friends of course, I came up with my chapter that I'll be doing: The Sons of the Kraken. I'm going to be using Salamanders chapter tactics, as I have a LOT of flamers in the army.
Enough with the wordy messages, here's some pics!
Tac Marines:
Vets/Command Squad:
Apothecary:
I'm trying to get the chapter badge (Greek letter Psi) to be as uniform as possible, so excuse the messiness! The chapter is semi-Greek themed, with the Greek letter/Kraken reference. For anyone that cares, here's the list:
Oh snap son I really like your colour scheme ! The apothecary is by far my favorite so far, I think its the helmet that make it look so cool I demand more awesomeness like this !
Funny you bring up drilling the barrels, I was recently given one of the old GW pinning vices when the store manager was putting the new ones in. I'll have to get my smaller drill bits out, but I'll definitely get it done. Any suggestions on how deep I should drill in for the flamers?
Also, I'm almost finished with another Tac Marine, I'll get pics of him up soon.
Ok, promised a sooner update, but here it is. Firstly, I got squad 1 done for the Sons.
And secondly, I've had thoughts of doing a HH Salamander army! No real models yet, but just some thoughts into what kind of list I want to run. What do you guys think?
I've been trying to keep a smaller paint palette for my models lately (ie. using 1 wash, limited highlights) and it's really decreased painting time! Well, for the Sons anyway
I really like those models - especially the Chapter Master, awesome work on that one !
The only thing that bothers me is that the Librarians do not stand out as members of the Librarius... Maybe it's the lack of Psychic Hood ? Or the "Librarian blue" that doesn't stand out enough compared to the blue you're already using on the models ?
Thanks Yggs! My explanation is that they have the "hood" inside their helms!
That is something I overlooked, though. I guess I can say they are just veteran members of the chapter that just happened to be psykers too? I'll try to figure something out.
Thanks! Ok, here with another side project! This is for an Inquisitorial Warband I'll eventually get to. She was fun to convert and even more fun to paint!
Thoughts/comments would be great I'm going to finish up the rest of the Warband soon.
Indeed they don't. Flippin 'ell, those are some nice bikes. the blue & white works very well on them. But one does wonder how thet powerfuster, lightning-clawed marine can drive...
What's up guys! Back from self-induced exile from the game to work on school, now I'm sorta back in the groove.
My small break from 40k got me A's in engineering courses, so I'm not too bummed out! I've been slowly accumulating more models over the last few months, but haven't really had the chance to play. Luckily, all the FLGS here in Houston have made their schedules so that there's a tournament every weekend! Been to 3 over the last few weeks and didn't do so hot, but I'm going to try and get a few more in during the coming weeks. Uni and the closing of the closest GW store have made casual gaming non-existent, so I'll probably be focusing on tournament play from now on. My Tau will probably never stop growing though, and my SM should be nearing a playable point level soon.
Here's the list I'm bringing for this weekend's tournament. Guidelines: 1750 Bound, Unlimited CADs.
Also, here's what I've been working on during the holidays.... my Farsight Bomb!
Farsight (w/out sword):
Shadowsun:
Also, I have my Knarloc Riders, which I use as Tetras:
Everything has been completely based, but I was a too lazy to take more pictures lol. I'll try to get pics of this weekends tournament and post them.
