howdy.

first off, i don't capitalize much of anything. years and years of using auto-capitalization in MS Word has left me adverse to using the shift key. deal with it.

secondly, i have never had a blog before. seems kind of like a diary, and i never kept one; it also seems like a bit of showing off, and that's not my style, either. maybe it's just that i see stuff on here everyday that makes me feel like a talentless hack.

hopefully, this will be a growing process.

let's get started.

why orks? cheap and easy to convert. easy to scratch-build vehicles. not that budget seems to big a big deal anymore...when i started collecting 40K minis, i was in college. now i have disposable income...little plastic men is what i dispose a good bit of it on.

hoping to earn a place in the League of Extraordinary Riveters...

edit 12/22/13: just to make it known, i don't care if you necro this thread in the slightest. had a little tiff with a dakka user for necro-ing another thread, even though by his own admission, you can't really necro P&M threads due to their WIP nature...feel free to necro away. if i wanted the thread closed, i would ask a mod to close it.

specifically, things are hectic around here with the holidays, although i should have most of xmas day and new years day to myself to do some work on...something. may work on the plane some more...it's detail work now, as i've got a good enough base of go-fasta red on it now...

tonight i will post pics of my current WIP, now that my terrain piece for Skalk Bloodaxe's Junk PIle contest has been put to rest.

as a teaser (until i can get the WIP pics up tonight), this is the base for my ork flyer conversion:

WIP of what i have done so far...zoomable pics in my gallery.

i like the idea of hex-head bolts instead of rivets when it comes to ork construction. may even do a bolt up through the hex, making them nuts on a bolt (a la luciusletroll's work), but maybe--probably--not.

i used testor's model putty to make weld lines around the jet nozzles...i like some of the methods other people have used with green stuff, but it doesn't look as sloppy as i would imagine ork welding would be.

i have exhaust pipes from a bomma kit i got on ebay that i will be using...also some kind of armature for the rudder. teeth for the intake. paint job, and details (ace kill markings, pilot name, plane name, etc)

of course, it needs MOAR DAKKA...that's in the works, as well.

codex: orks says that a bomma has tail-mounted twin-linked guns...don't know how to go about that (especially if i want to make the flyer playable as both fighta and bomma). would like a dome (think belly gun on a b-17), but the plane is too small, width-wise, through the tail to make that feasible.

What happened to the wallpaper, did shame get the better off you. Anyway its a good start, I always enjoy watching Ork creations come together so i'll be watching even if you never hear from me again.

@bangbangboom--wallpaper is still there. just got a better image shooting with a door in the background instead.
i welcome thread stalkers as well as thread participants...

took a small break from the plane this evening, and came up with something i like to think of as a combat shotgun for orks.

taking on the fearless demon overlord Leroy Jenkins with his new shoota...

i did also work on the plane (need to get it done so i can work on the battlewagon idea i have rolling around my mind, as well as possibly working on a gun emplacement for a contest that may or may not be wrapping up soon). added wing dakka as well as covers for retractable landing gear. i like the look of the plane, but did not like the non-retractable landing gear that should be on the plane...also didn't want to model NEW landing gear...this is my nod to realism--theoretically, it could happen. it is 38,000 years in the future, after all...anything is possible.

as always, zoomable images in my gallery.

more WIP progress pics.

ork-sloppy welding...

dakka mouth...changed the teeth around a bit to accommodate the gun barrels.

she looks pretty...

and another view...

might not be apparent, but i added small rod pieces to places that should hinge, in a nod towards theoretical functionality.

WIP shots, and the pretty-much-done WIP-now-PIP pics (excepting that the cockpit and pilot have had almost nothing done to them)....

glyph detail...

another glyph detail (my girlfriend wanted this on the plane)...

detail of aileron control...

and the pilot...

any suggestions? moar dakka on the wings? bomb mounts under the wings?

Nice work ye git!

I like the model used as the basis, the end result will look hilarious with the enlarged front and so forth!

Very orky

well, as you may have noticed, things have slowed down quite a bit, thanks to IRL stuff. did manage to find a paint color i liked to airbrush the plane, but i haven't done any detail work on it yet...was thinking about naming the plane (someting along the lines of an orky version of "memphis belle")...

kind of anxious to get the plane done, as i want to start my gargant and/or battlewagon...as a newly-inducted member of LoER, i feel it's my duty to rivet something.

also wondering if i should make the baneblade i got on ebay a looted vehicle or not...especially as i have exactly 1 IG soldier.

happy holidays to everyone!

PS: make sure to check out Skalk Bloodaxe's Junk Pile Terrain piece contest, and vote (send Skalk a PM) for your favorite!

sorry it has been so long (not that anyone cares). i am now an uncle. which is kind of a big deal for me, as i think everyone in my family expected me to have kids first.

i live in an old house near the water, and it's been too cold/damp in my workroom to really get anything done...even if i had had time to do anything, which i really haven't.

finished second in my category in skalk bloodaxe's junk pile contest...not too shabby for my first whack at a contest, and i'll keep my gripes about not winning to myself.

the league of extraordinary riveters has a new contest going on:

you should check it out.

hope everyone had a good holiday season.

it's been kind of hectic--my girlfriend and i are about to buy a house and move in together, and my work schedule has been brutal--55+ hours a week.
got a new airbrush for christmas, so hopefully i will be able to figure out how to get it to paint extremely fine lines--the only reason i wanted it, as all my other airbrushes are no good at fine (on 40k orks, for example) details...

not that anyone has been waiting with bated breath for me to update this thing.

Well done. It looks Orky and fantastic so far! I think it could use a bit more dakka or bombs further out on the wings. It looks a bit too empty there and you know, if there is room for any kind of weapon on an ork construction... it will be there.

i know it's been forever and a day. lots of issues IRL. haven't had a lot of time for 40k (or any of my hobbies, truly).

i seem to have a bad habit of buying stuff that i *want* to use for (ork) conversions, and then never get around to making time to do anything about it.

did some paint work on the plane (pics uploaded later tonight, maybe). also started working on painting a squad of commandos, as i was going through my stuff trying to organize it and found a metal Snikrot and a commando Nob...pics of that as well up'ed tonight if i get a chance.

was really hoping to compete in the wall/s fences LoER competition, and made a start at it, but i got sick, my computer died, yada yada yada...may post pics of what i have done with that also this evening.

a friendly hint: trying to glue together aquarium rocks to make a rock wall doesn't work out so hot. at least how *i* tried to do it.

That's not a bad habit - that's just stockpiling resources for future use

For aquarium rocks I'd think about a hot glue gun.

I know the feeling I've just had a baby and had to pack up 4 80l storage tubs with all my "if I buy this I can make this" crap that I had scattered around the house.

My blog has pretty much died maybe being updated only once or twice in the last year or so. But I have kept my immediate projects to hand and I still have another week left of paternity so there's a small chance I may get to have another crack at it in the next few days.

Keep the hope alive!

well, as promised, here's the photo drop. spoiler'd to avoid huge chunks of laggy load B.S.

progress on the plane has been minor. base metals where they (mostly) go, and big lightning bolt icon based in yellow (holy crap, yellow is hard to paint on a big surface by hand):

Spoiler:

progress on the red skull kommandos. more of a test-drive for how i want to do ork skin, and to get *something* at least partially painted.

Spoiler:
love this sniper rifle...

here's my epic fail at trying to make rock walls out of real rocks:

Spoiler:
really, it's not bad for random cover or a seriously eroded wall, and with a little work, it could look quite nice--flock and some kind of base might help. but i was trying to make sturdy, quasi-uniform rock walls, and after 2 days in the mold i had made and white glue *still* hadn't dried, i gave it up as at least a partial fail.

my not-finished entry for Monkeytroll's LoER "Fences" Terrain Competition:

Spoiler:
was going to have a dead guy in the pipe's cutout.

and after i spent a good bit of money on basing supplies, i found these at dollar tree:
Spoiler:

i want to finish *something* before i start on another project, but i don't feel like working on the plane or the kommandos. still have ideas running through my head for battlewagons and at least one gargant. oh, well. no more time for tonight.

thanks for taking a look.

that may be so, but i have at least 4 totes (80L or bigger) full of "stuff", not including the 2 totes for all my " actual little plastic men" stuff...i need to stop collecting and *DO* something with it. as for the hot glue gun--i didn't want to have big globs of glue visible. was trying to do it fast, as i didn't want to paint it. didn't see a way to do things quickly and have them turn out the way i wanted them--the only thing i could envision was little drops of hot glue for each little rock, and said " that."

That jet is better than the real thing. Also, those rocks are great.I'm building a stone fort from HK's bricks and reap rock/bark so I may steal that.

So much to comment on.

That Orky sniper rifle is fantastic! I love the Marine shoulder pads too, takes me back to some of the first Orks I ever made. I gave my special weapon guys looted Devastator pads, cuz if ya wanna be the shootiest, ya gotta look like da shootiest.

The rock walls look pretty good to me. I can definitely see how you wouldn't want to hot glue each one individually, but I think it would pay off in the end. The stack of pallets also looks great, nice work on that one.

And that Dakkajet… Great conversion work, but I can't look at it without picturing this:

Damn kids…

i was big into model planes when i was a kid...i never built a gee bee, but i always thought it was a cool looking plane. there was one in "the rocketeer" movie (the yellow and black super gee bee, actually), and i also loved that movie as a kid. i thought it would make a pretty gnarly ork plane...and i didn't want to spend what they were asking for a GW model.

Also, those rocks are great.I'm building a stone fort from HK's bricks and reap rock/bark so I may steal that.
feel free. i would suggest you do not water the PVA (white glue) to make it runnier. the first mold i made for the rock wall wasn't watertight, so when i came back an hour after pouring watered down glue into the mold full of rocks, i found a puddle of watery glue on my work table. i have been thinking that wood glue might work better, as it dries a yellowy-tan color which would work better color-scheme-wise with the rocks (at least the ones i want to use). i don't know how PVA/white glue racts to heat, but i know wood glue sets up faster with heat, so i might try again with my molds, wood glue, and a space heater.

Best part is "Cam wuz here."
--Cam seems to have a fantastic amount of free time, and what he does with it amazes me. i work 6 days a week, 10 hours a day, so i don't have much "down" time...it's nice to see someone with skill, a sense of humor, and an obvious passion do something with it (the way i would *like* to...)

sniper rifle--kommandos are supposed to be sneaky, in a way...figured they should have at least a nod towards a sneaky weapon.

shoulder pads--i always thought SM pads made fantastic ork trophies...and because i seem to have about 1000 of them in my bitz box, it was a no-brainer. i wanted to make sure all the red skull kommandos had the "red skull" part...but all of them having helmets seemed pretty repetitive. i also plan on painting at least one of the kommandos with paint on his skull...because orks are literal in the extreme, IMHO.

rock wall--i like them. just wish they had been what i wanted them to be, instead of a happy mistake.

pallets--i work around pallets quite a bit, so they are often in my head. they are quick, cheap, and easy to make. starbucks has thin wooden stirrers, and i grabbed two handfuls of them the last time i went to buy my girlfriend her iced coffee... they aren't perfectly to scale, but i think it's funny to imagine that 39,000 years in the future, people still put stuff on pallets.

i haven't seen that movie (one of the joys of not having kids, i guess), but i see what you mean.

thanks everyone for looking and especially for the feedback.

LOL, I know the feeling. Recent advancements in pallet technology have been less than stellar performance-wise, so I guess if it ain't broke, even after 39,000 years, don't fix it. I mean, plastic ones go on trailers real nice, but not so much when it comes to storing stuff in racks.

makes you wonder exactly *what* advancements there has been in pallet technology since they were invented...

i was thinking about it recently, and i figure 39,000 years in the future, they would just build fork lift pockets into the crates that would normally go on pallets. probably has something to do with watching/listening to the Rifftrax of Alien, then watching Aliens and Sigourney Weaver pilot that awesome CAT exoskeleton/loader...

the level of detail necessary to make a scale model plastic pallet was beyond my talents when i thought about making pallets...still is, really, i guess. but wood pallets are probably recognizable world-wide. cheap and easy...what's not to like?

was actually thinking about battlefield clutter for my battlefield. i plan on (eventually) making a full 4' x 8' urban warfare board...one of the components i was thinking about was a warehouse or storage yard. manufactorums *make* stuff, but you never seem to see it. and it can't all be war materiel...so what else is there, and what do they store it in? then i thought, a collapsible plastic gaylord pallet box like this:

would be pretty gnarly looking, especially in big stacks (cover, mazes, endless possibilities, really)...

farted around for about an hour knocking out some basic armor and a platform for the howdah...also did some greenstuff work on the shoulders (darker spots on the two full body pics). not very good with greenstuff yet, but i figure it's not important, as you will never see those parts once it's done.

if anybody has any tips on how to sculpt pebbly dinosaur skin, please let me know...can't seem to find anything worthwhile on google, and the one promising lead i found here on dakka linked to a 404 Error.

decided making little balls of green stuff and smushing them onto the squiggoth would work well enough, as most of it will be covered by armor or chains or decorations/trophies (a bunch of space marine heads from the bits box will end up on the howdah, as i have more than 100 i won't ever need for anything other than decoration). it's not the greatest GS job ever (lots of fingerprints, as seen in the pics), but it serves my purpose well enough.

got a bit done on the squiggoth and howdah:

howdah, top down view.

3/4 shot. it's a big and will hold at least 10 models (per the rules).

detail of the face.

had other shots from the other side and from the rear, but dakka wants to upload them rotated 90* clockwise, and there's no way to fix that, so i guess that will have to be all for now.

what color should i paint this big boy? i want something that isn't green like all the orks...was thinking a reddish orange with either yellow or purple flecks. the fluff has squiggoths as giant viral creatures, so maybe purple with bright (neon?) green flecks?

I think making the balls like that worked out very well!

I haven't figured out how to not get my fingerprints in greenstuff yet either. After the tiny amount of work I've done with it has convinced me that it is the devil and it will take sorcery to do anything significant with it.

Purple seems like a good color. How would you do the purple speckles?

i rushed it. primarily because most of it is going to be hidden by armor, et.al. for the kind of pebbled skin look i wanted, it worked out. found a few articles online on how to do linear scales (i.e., anything Salamanders scales), but they weren't much help. they went something like this:
"use a piece of sprue to make a tool. sorry, no pictures of what my version of this tool looks like. but i have before (smooth green stuff) and after pics (now with the exact kind of scales i wanted) of what i was working on. figure it out."

i tried olive oil, and it worked out pretty well. just put a little dollop on a folded up paper towel, and occasionally ran my tool over the wet spot. problem was, i was tired and not paying much attention to where my fingers were. i think the best pointer for anyone using green stuff is this: TAKE YOUR TIME. not that fingerprints matter much on this model, but it is something i will pay attention to next time.

i am not sure i want a purple squiggoth unless i magically become okay with people referring to it as "Barney", and hearing that song... as for the speckles, would probably just run my thumb over an old toothbrush with a little bit of paint on it. get nice random flecks that way. or i might paint big spots, like a cow. not sure. will have to do some mock-ups. probably do that tomorrow and put up pics of that tomorrow night.

hey there, love the Bee conversion!!!

and great job on that squiggoth!
just have one little comment: I would try to get those armor panels on the neck look more flexible, maybe bending them a little bit between each part of the panels?

so, what color did you chose?

Keep Calm and Scratch Build On! ~ Da Boyz & Toyz - {WIP SQUIGGOTH & GROT TANKS !!!-updated 7/11} @ 2015/02/10 14:07:16

Post by: GawdamSumbish

@Rai - i am starting to grow on the purple and green, myself...

@nflagey - thanks for checking the thread out! the neck armor may be bent with heat so it wraps down the sides of the neck ...but i plan on putting chains on the two middle sections (as a nod towards realism, needing something to hold the armor on to the neck)...the armor actually *is* flexible, it just is not apparent because the neck of the squiggoth is at the angle i wanted. when i attach it to the howdah, it will flex a bit more.

edit: removed kickstarter link, as i am no longer backing the project.

The models in that Kickstarter ar pretty sweet looking.

I've never actually backed one bc I am terrible about having to wait once I've bought something.

I keep seeing all the neat kickstarter minis that people are painting around the Dakka and it makes me sad that I don't have all these things.

sprayed the squiggoth base white. no pics, because it just looks like an albino version of what i had before. EyeAmRai voted for blue with orange stripes...and so did my girlfriend. so i guess that's decided...hopefully i can start spraying the squiggoth this weekend with my new sotar 20/20 airbrush.

spent a bunch of time this past week trying to organize all my bitz...i have about a dozen plastic divider containers (9" x 12" or bigger) full of stuff, in addition to random ziploc bags...too many things. although i did find some spare Leman Russ sponson bits, so i may not scratch build those for the LoER contest entry.

i have a ton of space marines stuff, and i think i might be getting burnt out on orks...i have been doing some research on the mentor legion...i like the concept. i especially like that according to the fluff they work with IG, which lends itself to the possibility of Leman Russ tanks being used by Space Marines (something i've wanted since i started collecting 40K minis). the one thing i didn't care for was the old Mentor Legion logo:

so i designed a new one. it's a fast and sloppy scan of a pencil drawing colored up in MS Paint:

the old logo looks like an alien or a wasp...my new version looks a bit more like an owl. tried to keep the original colors, but i'm not sure i really like them.

any thoughts? c/c always welcome, and once again, thanks for stopping by.

I like your version of the logo better.

The colors aren't sitting right for me though. Maybe lose the brownish color altogether and put yellow were you've got the brown and then red where the yellow used to be?

Does that make any sense?

was also considering keeping the green and white color scheme, so the logo could look something like this:

well, i nixed the barney-squiggoth idea, so he's blue. based him blue, then airbrushed a diluted blue wash to get into the nooks and crannies.

a slightly closer-up shot of the wash's effects:

waiting for the wash to dry then will base the main orange parts and wash them, too.

Excellent stuff.

I have found for scaly skin a round tube, or a square one, pressed into the GS will form reasonable scales.

All looking brilliant, watching closely got my own in the pipes.

@ Cam--i tried tubes, but it came out looking like garbage to me. too regular. overlapping didn't help. i had an idea to use some copper scouring pads or a bath loofah...may try that as a proof on concept project.

good luck with your take on the squiggoth--it's actually been pretty fun so far. the triceratops i used was about 11" (28cm), which i think may be the right size or thereabouts. also, my howdah is much larger than the official models', as far as i can tell (don't have a real one handy for comparison), because i want to actually carry 10 models on it...i'm sure you'll do a fantastic job as always once you get to working on it. (don't ditch the blimp to do it, though! still looking forward to seeing that project completed.)

i was uploading pictures last night, but they hadn't finished by the time i dozed off in my chair, and i was in a bit of a rush to get out of the house this morning, so pictures of my progress on the squiggoth will be up in 9 hours or so.

had a bit of bother with the airbrush, which i finally got sorted out, but by then it was too late and too cold to paint much of anything...

also started doing some magnet work, as the chains attaching the armor and howdah will be magnetized for convenience of installation...

some minor work on the squiggoth, including rivets!

rivets are 1mm nail half-dome beads, which i had to buy from a UK seller on Ebay(waited 10 days to get them, which is a lifetime when you NEED something)...they are great for vehicles, but probably too large for figure-sized rivets, though.

back to painting!

thanks, Cam!

the whole howdah is drybrushed--just need to pick some panels and paint them colors--thinking primarily red, for the +1" movement (not that i ever actually play the game)...weathering, chipping, etc. also meeds to be done, as well as small details (had an idea for a bookshelf full of space marine helmets...) and of course MOAR rivets.

found out that my squiggoth is really somewhere between a regular and gargantuan squiggoth...will have to look at the rules and upgrade mine to a gargantuan.

most of my hobby time this weekend, though, was spent on making grot tanks. got 2 of them about 90% finished--all that is lacking is rivets and small details (i.e., the hoses on the flamer tank), and a 3rd about 60% done (hull and tracks; needs track guards, weapons--thinking rokkit launchers--and details)...pictures up later tonight.

as always, comments/critiques welcome. thanks for taking a look!

Well, here's the grot tanks i couldn't help but build. big shout out of thanks to Camkierhi for the tread bits--one of the best--if not THE best--dakkanauts it's been my pleasure to get to know.

tank 1: BIG SHOOTA/KUSTOM MEGA BLASTA(with more work)

the tube in the bottom of the turret goes into a tube in the hull section of the tank. making different weapons and magnetizing them may have worked, but if i decide to change weapons, i will just build a new turret. i plan on making them all interchangeable.

detail of the "engine" came from a WWII model sprue. i don't know what it the model is of, what scale, or what it is supposed to be. but i thought it fit in with the grot tank aesthetic.

tank 2: - SKORCHA

didn't tank nearly enough WIP shots of this tank. wanted an OTT look to the flamer's barrel--made a scratch build one based of the burna boy's weapon, but it looked ridiculously small on the turret.

have actually worked on the Skorcha tank more, adding hoses, but i don't have pics yet. also working on tank 3, which will be ROKKITS. think i want to get 4 tanks mostly done then go crazy riveting them all at once.

thanks for stopping by.

@nflagey - can't really remember what we had for dinner, to be honest...

cold wet weather has prevented me from doing much of anything this last week or so...am making a big push today to finish the LoER contest entry today, though.

if anyone bothers to read this without looking at just the pictures, i am curious as to what kind of paint jobs you all think i should give the grot tanks...was thinking stylized tiger stripes for at least one of them. don't think i want to have them all in a matching color scheme, and i don't think the extra 1" for a red paint job is worth the points it would cost...thoughts from people more experienced in playing the game would be highly appreciated.

thanks to everyone for stopping in.

Ironically I usually do only look at the pretty pictures and bypass the words, but I happened to see that someone had commented on something other than the build (namely the paint job that was not in existence yet) and I scrolled up to read. Funny that.

Do you have a color scheme for the rest of your army? Or is this the first thing you're painting? If you aren't going to paint it red, I just pick 4 colors - 2 I label "major" and 2 I label "minor". These colors can be literally anything, but if you have a color scheme already in place for your army it's easier to just use whatever colors they are. For my own orks these colors are bright yellow and medium blue as major & black and dirty white as minor. Then I use the colors to greater or lesser effect on everything. One unit might be mostly yellow with blue details, one might be black with yellow details, one might be blue with black and yellow check marks. One tank might have a yellow undercoat and then look like it's been partially repainted blue, one might be black with yellow lightning bolts all over it. Etc, etc, I think you get the idea. If you have no colors in mind I recommend putting a bunch of colors you like in a hat and randomly selecting them.

My 2 cents.

@Vic - tiger stripes it is...

don't know if i should add thin white stripes to emphasize the borders between orange and black, like this:

but i did it, anyway.

@Waaazag - I don't have much laid out in the way of color scheme for the army--almost nothing is painted. my girlfriend likes orks tan pants with red accents. The Gee Bee is red, although i am thinking about repainting that to look more like the original gee bee paint job. I don't care if the grot tanks match the color scheme of the army--in fact, i think i would prefer that they don't match. had another idea for one of the tanks--white with red, yellow and blue polka dots, like wonder bread packaging...

also did a little more detail work on the grot tiger tank:

@Vik - i thought the stripes worked out, and it was easier to do then my other idea, which was to remask the tank and spray more orange to disrupt the black stripes (to look more like a real tiger)...as for it looking clownish--that's EXACTLY what i was going for. I had actually thought of painting one of the tanks plaid...but that's probably way too far overboard, and tedious, to boot.

@Shaso - thanks for stopping by, man!

Orock - got them from a fellow dakkanaut - Camkierhi - but i don't know if he has any more, and i don't know how "cheap" they would be. may want to PM him.

further along those lines: thanks to my experience with Cam's treads, and the fact that i really enjoy making grot tanks, i will probably be getting into making my own masters and casting tread sets myself in the near future (can't be bugging Cam every time i want to make a batch!). need to do a bit more research, but i think i might just get a starter set and figure out how much i like it.

@nflagey - it is going to have to be played as a giant squiggoth (unless i ever get around to playing, and the person i play lets me use it as a regular squiggoth).

i haven't done anything major to it, except work briefly on the chains which are supposed to hold the howdah and armor on. been busy with the LoER contest entry and real life--for example, i have been trying to order bits to make flash gitz, and the ebay seller i am using, who was once remarkably reliable, has turned into a nightmare of parts cut off the sprue badly, missing items from orders, and now parts being sent to the wrong address (wrong STATE)...

tonight, WIP of the contest entry (almost finished) will be up. after that, i may paint more on the grot tanks. or i might work on the squiggoth. not really sure. my GF only has every other weekend off, and this weekend she's off, so...we shall see.

the LoER had another deadline extension, so i might actually be able to finish painting it. might have to sit out the next contest, or act as a judge, as i will be starting a new job on the 29th. good news is that the new job's main selling point was 3 days off in a week, so i should have plenty of time to work on stuff in the future.

well, i didn't finish the contest entry, but i may come back to it at some point. had some projects to do around the house, and because my d-bag former boss decided to let me go 1 week into my two week notification period, i got the big projects on the honey-do list done, and had some time for hobbies. made some progress on the squiggoth:

Spoiler:

painting isn't great, lighting isn't the best, but you get the general idea.

need a break from the squiggoth, so i will probably be working on the grot tanks later today.

have to do all the base coats before i can dirty them up...did a little wash work on the squiggoth, but it is mostly under the howdah. have a few more little details i want to color on the howdah itself before i start washing on the dirt.

anybody have any input on dirt or gore on the legs of the squiggoth?

I would go with dusty feet Maybe one of the front ones a bit gorey, maybe a hand stuck between the toes.

Nice.

Green one looks like it could use a little more detail on the turret. It's a little too cardboard-box at the moment. The tracks are great, though.

Skorcha tank is awesome.

I think grot tanks are so cute. They make me want to squee with joy or something.

Can't wait to see these done.

@insaniak - thanks for pointing it out...i will probably add a few more little physical details, but i planned on painting an orky insignia on the rear of the turret. also planned on either a purple polka dot or purple flame paintjob, which will also help mask the lack of details.

@EyeamRai - i'd like to see them done, as well... i'm focusing on the tanks and the squiggoth. i've told myself i can't put together anything else until i finish them, so i will make progress tonight/tomorrow.

i would still like to build one (at least) one more grot tank, as the rules in Imperial Armour Apocalypse (Second Edition) say a grot tank mob can be 3-6 tanks. Also may take a stab at a grot mega tank, once the squiggoth and the regular grot tanks are done.

thanks, Cam!

after 3 washes, the 'kommand tank' is nearing completion:

Spoiler:

painting on the other grot tanks isn't as nearly done. pretty sloppy so far, but trying to get a better idea of what they will look like when completed.

progress so far:
