Since the XMAS PRESENTS thread is about "what would you like to get?" wishlisting, I thought I'd start this thread here for actual loot - given and gotten. Can obviously include other seasonal festivals as well as people who's birthdays are hereabouts.. an all inclusive loot thread!
Well so far I only have things from seeing my father before he leaves tomorrow, but I got a pair of Mirkwood Palace Guard boxes from my youngest brother and my dad and all 3 of the Green Arrow New 52 collections from my other brother, along with Defiance season 1 on DVD.
I know one of my other gifts though as I picked it out, including a Masters G233 airbrush.
Playstation Vita and Killzone Mercenary
Angry Birds car seat covers
A hose and some steel shelving (I have a new house being built so these are appreciated)
Lots of Reese's chocolate
A Mexican spice and sauce set
Cashy money
18yo bottle of Glenlivet
Zilch. Just me and my kid here, and he isn't really old enough to be buying stuff for his mum. However, I'll be getting to see him open his presents, so thats good enough.
Well the loot has been grand this year.
- A very substasial amount of cold cash
- Four squads of Iron Hands Medusan Immortals
- Several books
- A new pair of boots
Very happy!! Got a baneblade, a stompa, warhammer giant, WoC chariot, WoC lord and the warhammer fortified manor!! Trying to convince my girlfriend that putting models together is a Christmas tradition!!
Not much from my family, that was more or less spent in advance on a Windows 7 OEM and an order with Victoria Miniatures. My brother did top it off with the Stanley Parable and The Wolf Among Us.
I got a Land Rover twin pack from Airfix along with the first case files of Judge Dredd from a good friend of mine.
2 boxes of eldar jetbikes
Farseer
2 marine land speeders
Arachnarok spider
Box of night gobbos
Box of savage orcs
Maruts tag for infinity, and a bunch of infinity blisters for aleph and tohaa.
I got a Land Rover twin pack from Airfix along with the first case files of Judge Dredd from a good friend of mine.
Snap, got the first Judge Dredd case files book also.
Bit of a 'Dredd' Xmas this year, got the new Warlord/Mongoose Dread starter set, which I have to say looks bloody lovely! the entire rulebook is just like one big piece of fan service, it's great.
I got jujubes, earphones that don't work for some reason alongside a pre-paid LoL card that doesn't work either.
On the plus side I got a Mega-Dread, Lootas, some Nobz and kick-ass Breaking Bad mousepad. (I-I...am the one who knocks!) A couple of really nice sweaters too for me to feel warm while I poop.
I scored a pair of slippers that are replica Converse sneakers! lazing in style! a pair of PJ's with a Labrador dad slogan (thanks Osc!) the DC Comics ultimate character guide! Sooooo good to catch up on all the old ones I used to read as kid! a zip up hoodie with a design that appears to have a samoyed in the middle! (where Nerdwench finds these I don't know!) and two pairs of Muppet socks, Gonzo & Kermit! :-)
and that was just from my 3 Dogs and the Nerdwench! Boxing day will be even more when we go to my parents place for lunch! it's like a double Christmas!
Some undies, a pair of awesome sweat pants, a new airbrush, a storm raven, a wraithknight, a couple gift certificates to various places like Home Depot, the movies and dinner, and 200$ for more warhammer stuff(possibly FW dunno yet).
It was a pretty spectacular Xmas so far and I still have to go to my wife's parents later today.
Well all I got so far was a old Predator from me Brother. But there's and Aunt/Uncle comin' up on Friday. Should get some moar loot then. Also got $100 cash, and a $50 Walmart card.
So far, so good
I got a book on Medieval History, Pratchett's newest book, and some socks and underwear.
I've given-
Space Marine (for my brother on X Box 360)
1 Direction DVD for my youngest niece
A book on Minecraft for my oldest niece
A locket for my girlfriend.
We've been cutting back on the presents for the last few years because of the recession. I don't mind it at all, I'm pretty happy with a couple of books to read!
I got a gift cert for my FLGS for 50 bucks!! yeah!! And a little radio for my painting area!! WOO HOO!!! Both from the Wife :-)
I did a commision work for my oldest son - His Firehawk Sternguard. And a gift cert to the same FLGS to one of my co workers so his kids can get some comics -- theyre 7 and 5..
Pretty nice haul!!
Deadzone mega-deal (pretty much everything available)
A new set of brushes.
A 3.3/4" Radagast the Brown figure, a cheap toy (£1.99) I'm painting up as a display piece. It's taking the paint rather well and working on something not 28mm is liberating.
Other stuff:
2 Clone Wars DVD box sets (I now have all 5 series)
Dr Who Series 7 box set.
A Bowler hat,
A set of Dad's Army cufflinks.
Not a bad haul at all, plenty there to keep me occupied.
I told my folks to get creative and surprise me instead of me telling them what I want, since (IMO) the point of christmas is to show someone you care by giving them something you think they would like rather than simply buying stuff off a list. They know I'm a big tabletop wargamer, comic/pop culture enthusiast, I have my eye on a PS4, I'm a huge Jersey Devils fan, etc. (amongst numerous other things), so its not like it woulda taken much thought to figure out SOMETHING.
They got me a beard trimmer, a sega genesis plug and play emulator, and some cash...
I bought my dad a $150 leather case containing 2 martini glasses, a shaker and some assorted bar tools. He was over the moon about it (he used to have something similar in the 70s). I bought my stepdad a $280 12 gallon nanocube aquarium with an advanced light setup so he could keep some coral... he was excited as all hell about it. I bought my mom about $140 in jewelry which she's already wearing and showing off to everyone who cares to notice...
and I got a beard trimmer, a sega genesis plug and play emulator, and some cash (less than $200). I feel so loved and understood... yet another year of bitter dissapointment and being let down. I mean... is it so much to ask for some Devils tickets? Or maybe a new Devils jersey (they know who my favorite players are, come on)? A straight razor shaving kit (instead of a bear trimmer)? Maybe some Batman comics or related memorobilia? *SIGH* Every year I more or less put myself into debt to try to get amazing gifts for my family and friends, gifts I know they'll enjoy and appreciate, and shows that I put serious thought and care into, and they basically give me whatever they find on the shelf of the clearance aisle at walmart or something. I don't even really care whether or not I 'break even' on gifts, I don't expect to, but at least put some thought and effort into it, meanwhile I went halfsies with my parents to get my little bro a Wii U (dunno why he wanted that hunk of junk) and he made out like a bandit, Wii U, some games, some nice t-shirts, etc. Like, really?

Maybe next year write a list? I know thats the biggest jerk response in the books, but maybe they aren't as observant as you would like them to be. I would never expect my family to know where to even start along the lines of wargaming gifts. Regardless, you can always use that cash to get devils tickets or a jersey, or better yet wait until the Detroit Red Wings come to town and see them whoop some Jersey butts... jk. We suck this year and half our team is hurt.
Clearly they aren't. but I'm really not the type to tell people what to get me, etc. I dunno I have my peculiarities and beliefs, and I don't really expect my parents to know what to get me in regards to wargaming either, but they know my friends and how to contact them, they can get creative.
Chancetragedy wrote: Seriously way to bring the thread down buddy... Why don't you spend the money they gave you on tickets to a terrible hockey teams game.
Terrible? We've been one of the best teams in the NHL for two decades, just because we're having a rocky season doesn't mean we aren't still one of the most successful in the league.
Tau Barracuda (with Taros Campaign book), Battlefoam Pack GO, ambidextrous safety for my 1911 (horrible being a left handed person with that gun unless you get one), and a high-lift jack. Good times.
Gave out a socket wrench set and coffee mug to my dad and a nice music cd to my mom. What can I say, they didn't want much.

I celebrated an amazing new career move this year by giving big. I sent my parents on a luxury cruise (with full alcoholic beverage package) for a week, bought my kid brother and sister each a laptop, bankrolled a friend's power armor cosplay project, got another friend's car out of impound, and then a bunch of other smaller things. Most of that was wanting to show everyone that no, I was not broke anymore. I got my best bro two Ravenwing battleforces since he's been wanting to do a SM bike army for years.
What did I get? Umm...mostly just "thank yous". I think after this first year of big spending I won't be going quite so all-out again since frankly nobody seemed to care. My buddy gave me a Riptide, though, which will be an awesome addition to the Dubstep cadre. And I guess if you count presents to yourself, I laid siege to an arab electronics store with my whole security crew to secure a couple of PS4 consoles. But they didn't get any games in so we're currently waiting on Amazon for those lol.
chaos0xomega wrote: Man I wouldve loved a bestiary of mythological beasts... how is it?
Pretty good. It's a combination of bestiary and artists notes on how the pictures were put together called Dracopedia: The bestiary . - an artist's guide to creatibg mythical creatures (by william o'connor)
All in all, this year was my favorite Christmas. My family were more relaxed. I drank from 8am to 10pm on Christmas Eve(hey, had to break in my parents new margarita machine right?) Finished off a nice bottle of wine, Jack Daniels, and the icing of it all, home made moonshine. It was all really peaceful.

If you were my family member and you did not give me a list of things that you might enjoy to receive, then you get the Alfndrate standard of socks and underwear. The few times I've had to use this standard has meant that the following year I get a list, and a I get a gosh dang good one. Also I at least put forth the effort in giving you underwear and socks of the appropriate size, while it's not a 'thoughtful' gift. I've made it known to family members far and wide I am terrible at getting people gifts, and a list makes my job easier and also ensures that you're going to get a gift of something that you want/need. And besides! Who doesn't always need a fresh pair of socks and new underwear to go with it?!
As for what you should do, you should check out stubhub (conviently linked to a game on Jan 21, 2014 with tickets hovering about 25 dollars), and then put the rest of the money towards a Devils jersey. And when you go to said game and the relatives/parents/etc... see you in your new duds, tell them, "Hey, thanks for that cash for Christmas, I was able to get myself a jersey for my favorite hockey team." Then give them a hug, and tell them thanks.

The 1911 has a grip saftey so being left handed should only suck for brass in your face, unless youre talking about the slidelock second saftey thing
Some sweet new headphones, two small bags of basing grass, lots of acrylics that I need to water down before it can even touch a model xD three canvasses some nice stiff brushes of varying size oh yea and 50 pounds of coal-- no joke
Lets see I got:
Dewalt 4 pack Cordless Tools set (finally)
New Harley Wallet (with chain of course)
Some Axe body stuff (wonder if the wife is telling me something)
Now the stuff that matters:
Primary Weapon Systems (PWS) AR-15 18" piston system
Forge World order that including the following:
Fire Raptor, Chaos Warhound, 6 Chaos Dwarf Bull Centaurs, 1 Bull Centaur Character, Iron Warriors Land Raider and Rhino door kits
On a side not, I still have an unopened present under the tree for my Battle Brother who is in Afghanistan right now and it will stay unopened until he gets back to open it. As the days pass and we move into the New Year, please remember the ones who cannot be home with their loved ones for the Holidays......I know I have missed my share of them and its never easy....
Mechanicum castelax, iron hands medussa immortals breecher squad, zone mortalis tiles, an Arvus lighter and a 1907 pattern bayonet for my matching British lee enfield rifle.
I got an online voucher worth £25 for Games Workshop ... what'll that get me? Half a box of Cadians?
I really don't want to sound ungrateful (it was a gift from my partner who knows nowt about this sort of thing) but I'd rather have had the cash to spend with other manufacturers...
Hobby wise, I just picked up a Stormtalon, Razorback, and Command Squad. I'm highly excited about it.
As for everything else, just clothing and some tools. I don't need much, I work hard and earn a good paycheck. And at the end of the day, the little gifts are all that matter.
I had dinner with my family and enjoyed the company at my house in a nice shirt and jeans and a comfy pair of slippers with a glass of chianti while eating homemade lasagna and watching my three month old's eyes sparkle with the lights from the Christmas tree. It's not a matter of what the day brought to you but what you did with the day.
Perhaps you should come out of the hobby room and be a part of the civilized world and think more of others than yourself.
Some of you who have responded in this thread should be ashamed of yourselves.

So only those who do it the way you do it are "doing it right"? Get off your high horse and save that dribble for another thread....

Good for you. It seemed like you were replying to me but, I've learned on Dakka to assume that posts are not directed to any one person. As I'm sure this is the case with many other users on the forum, I don't completely post about my personal life on DakkaDakka, as this is a thread for hobbyists IIRC. However, I'll have you know I spent time with my in-laws and immediate family all day today. We didn't exchange many gifts at all, as we don't believe that's the spirit of Christmas. As for the other people that your posts targets, the only person who should be ashamed in this thread is you; as you took a good thing (this thread,) and used it is a tool to condemn others.
The only war-gaming related item I asked for was the Black Library novel 'Baneblade. I got some non-wargamng bits and bobs such as DVDs to watch with my family, some art equipment, books and a 'make your own beer' set.
What was better than the gifts was getting to spend time with my family and everyone sitting around the table enjoying good food and plenty of laughs. Afterwards we played a two and a half hour game of monopoly.

Surely, 'a nice shirt and jeans' made from ethical free trade cotton, and slippers made from only the highest quality hand woven hemp. The Chianti, good sir, I'm sure is from a particular winery that I 'probably haven't heard of'.
Gift wise it was a great Christmas, family wise it was awful though.
Hobby wise I got an airbrush (GF and I got it for ourselves) and some brushes. Girlfriend got a crap ton of apoxie sculpt, a hobby knife, and some clay shapers.
"other" hobby wise I got some steam gift cards and a few minor gun things.
Nonhobby wise I got a box of new socks, which is nice.

I pay my own way to games all the time, it would be nice if they gave me tickets to one as a gesture instead of me having to do it myself, id be far more appreciative. And I actually would have loved socks, I could use some new wool boot socks, ive evn been droppin hints to that for a few weeks now... not even that...
As a note, they coulda dropped $10,000 on thoughtless gifts on me and I'd still be complaining about it, but $5 spent on something legitimately thoughtful and I'd be grinning ear to ear, the closest to that was the beard trimmer my mom got me, until I realized that she wanta me to use it to cut down the length of my glorious beard rather than to just keep it well shaped (so its actually a bit of a veiled insult).
Windshield hinges, Door hinges, and lower pin brackets for my '04 TJ. All stainless steel and a royal pain to put on ... which I will be starting in about 6 hours after I get some sleep. I got the wife some nice diamond earrings, a Harley vest, and a bunch of little things like running socks, phone arm-band, etc. Was a good Christmas for my entire family really.
Oh ... and got to point out that my brother is getting so blind that he did not even recognize his own handwriting from 4 years earlier ....

This year, I received mainly money and books on History (mainly WW2);
"The wages of Destruction" by Adam Tooze
"A World at Arms" by Gerhard Weinberg
"The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers" by Paul Kennedy
and a bunch of other older history books my sister picked up somewhere.
Hobby wise, I received a Pegasus Hobbies cottage and cobblestone walls, a Pathfinder red dragon from Reaper, and Settlers of Cattan.
I also got to see and speak to my reclusive cousin who is the only one in my family as geeky as me at my family party, so that was nice.
I bought for meself some kingdom of the dead mini's, a left vulcan cannon for my Leviathan/Mortis. Several games for my PS3. Going back to my home country on the 30th, with a bag full of お土産(souvenirs) for my friends and family.
People don't know what to get me as well, since what I want and like is usually pretty specific in terms of my hobbies, and I have a rather bad habit of getting it myself long before Christmas. So I tell my wife what I want, and my parents give us money. Luckily I'm pretty good at getting others what they want, but even in that, it's good if they tell me what they want.
Having said that, I only do Christmas with my wife and our parents. My wife does it with me, our parents, and her siblings, etc (which I add my thoughts to). So I'm not one with a huge number of relatives to buy for. We also tend to get our parents anything they need when we find out they need it, as they're all older and retired. So at Christmas there's a real "what do you want?" element.
I got:
From my DCM Secret Santa (after all the delays I decided to hold off opening it until yesterday!):
4 Plastic and 3 metal LotR Elves, and a Rohirrim horseman, some vehicle bitz including a nice looking dozer blade and some deflier legs(?), 4 Plastic Wolves, Some banners and rats, a bunch of marine torsos, heads and bits, a bunch of metal model parts including an entire minotaur, and a really cool Chaos Star pin/badge/brooch.
From my wife:
HTC One (she got her revenge after I got her one as a surprise for Christmas! - replacing her iPhone3 that was starting to buzz at random times)
Song of Ice and Fire Collection
From my wife and parents (and I chipped in a bunch of money, too):
IA Vol 1 SE
IA Vol 2 SE
Horus Heresy Book 1
Horus Heresy Book 2
IA Masterclass Vol 1
IA Masterclass Vol 2
IA Apocalypse
A pile of FW models
I got some money to spend on Amazon from my parents and sister.
Otherwise, nothing.
My wife and I didn't spend any money on each other.
We have a baby due in a month or so.
Any spare cash is going on that.
If you think GW is expensive, you should see how much a pram costs!
Also I was at work, and my wife is 3500 miles away.
Well, I'm thankful to be alive, and to have kids, and a lovely wife! That's really all I could ever wish for, and then the Mrs. spoils me by actually knowing me, and she knows how to spoil me. So, she started with my favorite Rugby team the All Blacks official Polo! Wearing it now at work, amongst these football fans they have no idea... Then she got me a BOSE Soundlink Mini so I can listen to music in style while I get my hobby on...
She then got me started on my WFB Vampire Counts Army, with a Wight King, a Necromancer and a box of Hex Wraiths. Then two boxes of Tetley Tea shipped from England!
My DCM Secret Santa, really just went overboard, and again, I was completely spoiled with just tons of Cadians, Heavy weapons, Leman Russ Tanks, a Valkyrie, a Chimera, a couple of great 40K books, sentinels, and I’m sure I missed something in that list. Really just spoiled rotten! I’m looking forward to passing on the “spoiled” to another DCM’er next year!
Merry Christmas, and a very great New Year to everyone!
no hobby love for me...
no presents at all, actually, since i live a long way away from family, in a little village that barely gets mail...
i got solid 6-8 foot surf!!!
then a lazy day around the house with the animals, and ending with an evening of rallying around the village in a golf cart, and falafel dinner, with the woman i love...
lots of love from everyone on Facebook...
finished the night watching The Love Guru, and converting an Iron Hands Captain...

Surely, 'a nice shirt and jeans' made from ethical free trade cotton, and slippers made from only the highest quality hand woven hemp. The Chianti, good sir, I'm sure is from a particular winery that I 'probably haven't heard of'.
First kid? Good for you, champ! :p

Have a Christmas Exalt! Merry Christmas a day late, haha.
The Old Lady got me Forces of Warmachine: Convergence of Cyriss and a new work bag that I needed(it's leather, so it must be worth at least 2.5 of the Witchfire Trilogies I wanted!)
Of course, I had purchased (but not read) that very CoC book, so I returned it and got myself:
Algorithmic Dispersion Optifex
Optifex Directive
2 GW paints (one is the new verdigris effect).
No "hobby" stuff, but I got a new monitor, AFOQT study books, a $70 Fry's electronics gift card, clothes, some games from my aunt (including one for a console I don't own) and a $20 steam gift card.
Some infinity stuff! I think I'll need some more for building proper lists, but that's a really nice start.
Also got enough steam monies to cover BG2:EE, so there's that too.
Oooh, and everyone managed to show up too which was nice. We were going to be missing a couple of prominent family members due to various circumstances, but everyone managed to make an appearance, so yay!
I got my first lot of Warhammer Fantasy. Seekers of Slaanesh, Daemon Prince and a lizardmen stegadon. Great detail but am I right in thinking Fantasy are generally smaller than 40K?

In army size? No. Hilariously no. Some armies have so many models you'd be able to fit multiple 40k army model counts in them. My Vampire Counts have more models in a 250pt unit of Skeletons than I field in a 1500pt game with my Tyranids.
Well, I got a new cellphone from my parents (ok, ok, I'll never admit it, but I was in dire need of a new one ) boots and a new shirt. All things I was needing.
Then I bought some gifts for me: A whole lot of Space Marines (some of them are gonna take a while to arrive), 3 decks from a japanese TCG (Weiss Schwarz) and a freakin' Zaku II! Char's edition!
Spoiler:
The last 2 a friend sent me from Japan It's gonna take a few days until I have my goodies

Sweet Zaku and a to the Weiss Schwarz (they are going to be coming out with Kill la Kill by the way, if you didn't already know).

This is me once that Kill la Kill set I didn't know about is released:
As mentioned in my earlier post I got far more than I ever could have expected this year. I also have decent "Inlaws" that I am currently spending time at. The inlaws is in quotations because I am not married just in a relationship.
On a personal note this christmas was very disappointing to me not because of what I have but because of what I couldn't give. I got a great job this year and had plans to spoil my family (they have never been very well off and I wanted to treat them.) Sadly a head injury has left me out of work with no money coming in so some of my plans had to go on hold. Maybe next year.

I really don't want to sound ungrateful (it was a gift from my partner who knows nowt about this sort of thing) but I'd rather have had the cash to spend with other manufacturers...
Pick up a load of paint mate.

Perhaps you should come out of the hobby room and be a part of the civilized world and think more of others than yourself.

Because being judgemental is what christmas is all about.
DarkHero wrote: I mean model size. For example one of my space wolves thunderwolf cavalry is 3/4 the size of the new stegadon I have got.
Yes, Warhammer Fantasy models tend to be proportioned a lot better than 40k. Models in general are smaller and more detailed, but it depends on the age of the sculpt. Anything in the last 5-6 or so years is smaller, better proprtioned and more detailed (though not bling cluttered like 40k). Anything older is a crap shoot - could be good, but could be pumpkinhead Tomb Kings skeletons.
Some of you must work very hard to afford all of these neat things. Hopefully some day I can spend more than a single hundo!
Hobby wise I picked up my new SM codex ( Been waiting ages to get that)
A terminator librarian (because I actually want a reason to read the psychic powers part of the rule book. )
A new fine brush and a pair of paints.
Not a bad trade for a Benjamin. Lots of enjoyment on the way.
Hobbywise
AOBR Gretchin
Blood for the blud Gawd,Typhus corrosion, ryza rust, zandri dust and skarsnick green.
Fine detail and standard GW brush.
Not telling you about the rest.I got 90 euro though..IA 8 looks nice...

Don't forget to mention the stocking you filled with your ample smugness.
Somebody's on a high horse. I haven't read every post in this thread to understand what drew out such a haughty lecture... but it certainly reeks of hindquarters and hats.
I'll be nice and quiet now, not one for bickering in text, but that just seems really out of left field.

Quite unexpectedly got a Riptide and a Firestorm Redoubt from the GF. Was both a surprise and cool.
Also as a mini present to myself bought a NIB Gideon Lorr for myself for a very good price.
Also got a gift cert to the LGS which i'm currently still figuring out what i'm going to get with.

I'm glad i don't have any pompous people at my Christmas telling me, my six year old, or longtime girlfriend how to "do it right" and preaching at us not to be excited about the nice gifts our loved ones gave us (which, ya know, was the point of the thread, not giddyupping the high horse).
That said, your post made the ghosts of christmas past, present, and future golf clap, so there's that.
Also Chianti with Lasagna ? Interesting choice there, if it was, indeed a meal pairing. I'm assuming this was not just an opportunity to let everyone know just how evolved and civilized you are with your choice of red wine. If it was i probably would have gone with a Malbec myself. Newer, hipper, and you could get to say you drank it before it became cool (bonus hipster points if you deliver the ethical christmas lecture while drinking it).
Well was lucky to get a lot of geek goodness. Defiance season one dvd, 2 boxes of chaos raptors, box of chaos marines, squad of palatine blades, kromlech and max mini accessories and an xbox one
