While there will be items on here from a variety of sci-fi manufactures, all are tied into the same head cannon that ill go into more detail in the showcase thread.
But i like to have all my ski fi collection cross over into my 40k head cannon
e.g the Mantic warpath verse is a number of sectors south of the Segmentum Tempestus and west of the ultima segmentum founded by rouge traders.
There are Remnant fleets of Xenos (and sometimes human races) that were evicted from their planets by the Imperium during the great crusade.
Predators are still hunting anything they can, they love Catachan and hunting space marines.
Every now and again a strange man in a blue box shows up goes “nope” and leaves again.
Here will have Work in progress images and some discussion on any rules I’m working on to incorporate the various minis into other game systems so they can cross over. (I should have a Deadzone - Xenomorph ruleset done at some point).
I find i’m more productive/focused when i do a thread like this.
July 2016 Update
Hobby Budget Hobby budget of max £100 per month but ideally less than £50, As an incentive to spend as little as possible I'm going to put anything under £50 I spend into a piggy bank and save up for a Warhound Titan. (Wanted one for ages)
I'm also going to try and fund a bit of my hobby through EBay and here (selling terrain if people will buy it and things I'm not going to use), if eBay income makes up any of the £50 target spend I'll count it as half towards the budget total. (Another incentive to selling stuff) e.g. if i spend 50 but all came from money i made from selling stuff on eBay i’ll only count as £25 towards the £50 target.
But thats a lot of Reading heres some pics of things I am working on…
Albion Rifles imperial guard
UK (mostly WW2) inspired imperial Guard.
Got quite a few tanks to finish but I'm waiting on an airbrush purchase (got the cash saved just need to get one) before i do it.
Deadzone Enforcers
I-pad armour on the standard enforcers with the special characters in colourful armour.
Deadzone rebs
Tried to get them looking as individual as possible, so their a rag tag group. (think serenity and start wars rebels)
Xenomorphs
This is all the Xenos i have, despite the poor effort by Prodos with the treatment of me as a backer the minis are fantastic.
Infinity PanO
Ultramarines
lots to do and add, for a start i need to finish my hellion conversion nd get another sniper scout made.
Their true scale btw (or close enough to make me happy anyway)
Vs primaris
Thanks again for checking my thread out.
Please drop a comment if you like what you see or have any feedback, I really appreciate it and it helps keep be motivated.

Update: check page 3 for the start of my the Infinity adventure.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original start
[spoiler]
I'm struggling at the moment to finish projects that I start, so hopefully doing this will help drive me to actually finish something.
Last unit I finished were ultramarines terminators last year and now I've broken one of the minis down to do something else with it.
And hopefully I can get some pointers from you lot and run some ideas past you.
The list
These are the projects I have ongoing at the moment, as much as possible I want to finish something off this list before adding something new.
Deadzone - Enforcers - done
Deadzone - Rebs - currently painting -starter done booster undercoated only
Deadzone - Plague - done
Deadzone - Scenery want to get my tiles painted and make a com centre building from scratch.
Ultramarines tactical squad - need assembling 4 down, 1 half done and 5 to go.
Ultramarines scouts - waiting on heads going for filed down marine heads as I don't like the scout heads. I need to learn a better way of painting faces as well.
Dire Avengers - currently painting up a test model,
Imperial Guard - this one will always be on the list as a slow burner.
Gunship kit bash - mostly going to be used as a piece of scenery if I'm honest but my Rebs need a ride. - almost done just some weathering and decals to go
Without further ado
Gunship
[spoiler]
Picked up a Revell Star Wars republic gunship easy kit off of evilbay for a song
(Please excuse the poor pics)
Here's the beast part assembled
And a scale picture I'll do a proper one on the weekend
Spoiler:
It is a little thin but after seeing what other people have done it will look good on the table.
I plan to add a slim chain/rotary gun and targeter to the nose rather than the hair guns that are there at the moment.
I do need to find and purchase this first any suggestions?
While waiting for the gun I'll start priming and painting
I'm thinking of painting it a mid/pale grey with some nose detail I'm thinks of a playing card ace. I'm undecided on if ill leave the cockpit unpainted or not
Never ending/non priority Albion Rifles imperial guard
True scale Ultramarines ( fill out the tactical squad, finish the scouts, some bikes and an achillies from trot pose sicarius conversion)
True scale Deathwatch
True Scale Chaos Marines
Deadzone Rebs booster set
Inquisimunda
Near Future AVP painted
Deadzone Enforcers Pathfinders, jet bikes and peacekeepers
Distant future/Dream Projects
Spoiler:
Buy an Airbrush
Paint imperial guard tanks (UK woodland pattern camo)
Assemble Baneblade
Assemble Leviathan Crusader (after buying fancy capacitor things)
Heresy Dragon
Buy a imperial knight
Buy a Warhound Titan
AvP the miniatures game
More scenery
Gaunts ghosts
JoeRugby's Random but slow blog - March 8th update
Not much done this week gym and work taking over hobby time.
This week I've finishing assembling and priming my enforcers and plague (minus stage 2s, need to find non baby heads for them) and my ultramarines sergeant.(minus his right hand because I couldn't decide what to kit him out with).
The current todo pile
Gunship
I've managed to lose one of the doors for the gunship so that's not helped my mood , I have primed the undercarriage to see how it took the primer and to give it a test paint this weekend.
Better Scale picture of the Star Wars gunship with guardsman bob showing that he could fit into the transport compartment.
In addition to looking for to lost door I'm still looking for a suitable mini gun for the nose cone. I've seen some nice brass 1/35 chain guns on eBay but haven't been able to find measurements for it yet. I'm going to have a rummage through my bits box to see if I have any tau burst guns but I think it might be to chunky.
Deadzone - Rebs
My main goal this weekend is to get these finished. I'm going for a very mixed style for them( think rag tag band of outlaws). which gives me a chance to try some freehand.
Deadzone - Enforcers
As mentioned their all primed now, I've converted a sergeant with a catachan powerfist. (It looks like he's got one of those toy hulk hands if I'm honest)
And I've started to convert a defender but I need to come up with a stand in/salvaged shield.
More paint added! all have been dry brushed codex grey to bring out the black and rest of the painting started the ones at the front are closer to being finished than the ones at the back.
shotgun arm for my not-defender completed still trying to come up with an idea for a makeshift shield. Any ideas?
Ultramarines
I've added a little paint to the ultramarines but nothing photo worthy, I need to look into how to magnetise different hands for my sergeant.
Gunship I did do a test paint of the underside of the model and the primer and paint went on really well. The red painted areas on the original actually show through as detail when undercoated so I'll look to incorporate some of this in the final paint.
Ill look to get the rest primed and base coated this week.
I think I'll end up going for this brass etched kit as the mini gun for my gunships nose cone.
" target="_new" rel="nofollow">
but I can't find measurement for it, anyone able to help?
I still need to settle on a mini gun for the nose I might cut up a tau burst cannon as a stand in till I can find one I want.
I'm hopping to have the base coat finished this week.
painting up some Deadzone scenery
Most of the tiles are going to be the light grey, with some coloured tiles being backgrounds for company logos as per real shipping containers.
I need to get some stencils done so I can get some logos on the blue ones.
Have any of you made stencils for this kind of thing before? If so any pointers would be appreciated.
At the moment I'm just going to get some logos printed out onto paper and cut them out (and hope I don't make a mess of the cutting)
I was thinking getting some laser cut but I think this might be too expensive.
Nice work, I just saw the Gunship in your DZ batrep and it really does fit the DZ clean-sci-fi look. I can easily see Enforcers or Rangers using one for close insertion drops. The terrain is looking good too.
Paradigm wrote: Nice work, I just saw the Gunship in your DZ batrep and it really does fit the DZ clean-sci-fi look. I can easily see Enforcers or Rangers using one for close insertion drops. The terrain is looking good too.
Cheers dude
I love the shape of the republic gunship kit, it's a shame it's now OOP or I might have been tempted to get more to do a black hawk down type scenery piece.
Checklist for completing the bird;
Add decals and details: name on the side of the cockpit some warning decals, some rungs/ladder leading to the cockpit.
Find a mini/chain gun I like and get the nose code finished.
Learn how to weather models
And weather it just a little bit
Weathering is easy and fast if you stick to the simple methods. I don't know what you've looked into, but here's a few good methods that are fast and simple:
Sponge weathering: tear up some sponge/scouring pad and dip it in a little metallic paint. Dab it on the leading edges of wings ect to give nice and small chipping effects. To add depth, go over the edges of some chips with a slightly lighter shade of the base colour.
Chalks: Get some cheap artist chalks in various colours, grind them up, and brush them on. Black for heat damage, brown/red for mud, red for blood.
Washes: Cover the desired area in black/brown wash. Self-explanatory.
All of these take a little practice to get the balance right, but can add some really nice looking 'special effects' to models and scenery.
I'm off work tomorrow and I've got the flat free till Sunday so I'm going to take the opportunity to have a play making some scenery.
I love making scenery but space, time and mess are a big issue.
After I hit the gym tomorrow I'm going to go shopping in Cardiff for sheet materials. ( I think I'm going to struggle to get some MDF for bases in town) And a couple of tools and pieces.
The plan for tomorrow is to try to make
4 X 3" long wire fence sections
Comm Centre (6x6 L shape on 3" struts) I have an IDea about having a glass (clear plasticard)partition wall.
Not a lot but I think the comm centre will take a lot of time.
I didn't manage to get anything from my shopping list in town most crucially I couldn't get any hardboard to base any scenery on and I was too stingy to spend or foam board that cost five times as much as ebay.
A trip to B&Q and an ebay shop later and I have this.
8 x 3mm A4 foam board
Wire mesh
Filler
Balsa wood 2 x cylinders and 2x rectangular
Filler
Badly cut hardboard
At some point soon I hope I will have the time to make this
This is the floorplan my command/comm centre. As mentioned before it will be raised with a antenna with a sniper nest coming out the roof.
I also want to get a mini park/ memorial garden made to add a bit of colour to my Dead/grimdarkzone and AVP games.
My hands are shredded after cleaning all that with my Stanley knife.
I'm going to build a gatehouse/ keep similar to the front of the box but with the gate the 2 towers being separate pieces
Here's the concept for the towers ( very lightly put together)
Outside
Inside
I don't know about the corner buttress going all the way up yet.
Now to get the other tower and gate sorted out.
Use plasticard to fill in the outside peg holes and straight gaps (copying terrain tutor on this)
I'll then get them sprayed and painted individually before putting together properly and gluing.
I don't have enough pieces to make the door box that I wanted so I'll just get the towers done for now and try to pick up the bits to finish the door box
I also want to get 2 of the landing pad hatch openings for the top floor instead of the flat floor panel I currently have.
It does add a lot to a table. Ideally I'd have a half cube width section added to the back and running the whole length of the table but I'd have to sacrifice a bunch of walk ways to do it.
So there's a wall going the entire length
Quick update
(Please ignore the fetching ironing board cover)
Enforcers are done
Well almost. I still need to find a shield for my defender conversion. I don't think I'll use the engineer or the missile launcher so they will go into the for a paint on a rainy day box.
I like to think their walking away from an explosion in this pic.
Ultramarine Scout now has a head
Still some green stuffing to do on the head but looks great to me. I'll not try to get the rest of the sniper team done.
Riddick
One of the few sedition wars minis I haven't sold. He'll get some use in grimdarkzone as Blaine but no shooting.
The depth in the black hasn't come out that well in the pics but I'll use a similar technique when I get my aliens from prodos if fox approve of course.
Gunship gets an eye and a gun
Started work on the camera and gun for the Rebs gunship. I did buy a 1/72 rottary cannon but it was too small
Paradigm wrote: Neat work, you've replicated the Mantic scheme almost perfectly on those Enforcers, and the clean white is very commendable!
The whites a cheat to be honest.
It's just coat d arm's light grey painted over black undercoat, the black drains the grey so it looks white but I didn't have to put on loads of layers.
Battlezone tiles base coated, I love painting with a kitchen sponge for base coating scenery.
And from that and that and my earlier pile of tiles came a Hab block
Only base coated so there's a lot of detailing to do but it will work on a table until I can get around to doing the fiddle bits. I think a couple of these on the board will look sweet
(2 partially painted plague are about to have bad days)
I think It looks like something that could have been put together from shipping containers.
I've not glued it together yet but I might glue the flat walls together so it's quick to put together but still easy to store.
I need to get the remaining tiles undercoated (stupid spray can running out), I want to get a landing pad done and I'll have a play with what's left.
Despite the heat and preseason I've managed to do some things this week
Fort update
Filling the plug gaps on the gate section was a pain but I'm happy with the result. I now need to get the plugs on the tower filled.
Lots of other work to do still but it's got enough colour to be used on the table, speaking of which here the table layout I'll be using today.
I'm not a fan of the landing paid, I think it might be awkward to play around but I'll find out later.
Plague stage 2 "Berserker"
Kept it similar to the "tyrant" from the earlier post. I also didn't want to have the one berserker doing parkour so I changed the arm to make him look like he leaping at someone.
Still can't decide if I want to cover them in blood
I also started work on my comm Centre
I need to decide if I'm going to put a "power sub station" (aka a box) on the base by the struts.
And have started to change my ultramarines from normal bases to lipped ones.
Plan for this week. Finish my gunship chain gun
Paint the rest of my plague
More work on the comm centre
Get some zombies painted.
And I want to get my 5 tactical marines finished
(Most of this wont happen but it's nice to dream )
I didn't do anything I'd hoped to do last week aside from re basing 2 of my ultramarines
And play testing some rules for marines in Deadzone based on the enforcer peacekeeper rules.
So today I decided to do build something and found a kitech 1/48 challenger 1 in my pile of unbuilt toys.
Here's the contents
Bit disappointed with the lack of detail and the amount of flash on the sprues, but then you get what you pay for.
I'm not going to put the motor in because it's going to be used for mars attacks and maybe as a tank for Ariadna if I go for them as my welsh faction. (I love making up rules what can I say and tag vs tank sounds cool)
Half an hour in
And a few more mins and we're done(well almost there's some gaps in the kit that I want to fill with green stuff)
Size comparison, with a chimera and guardsman bob
Was an ok kit to build very quick, but with very minimal instructions, not a lot of detail and a lot of bits that didn't finish together I'd rather pay more for a better quality kit if I could find one.
The tank looks very cool, I've always been partial to the Challenger. It doesn't look under-detailed to me, especially for the price. Scale model kits don't tend to have detail as deep or thick as 40k kits just because they are not built for gaming so much as display.

I think it's because I've only done 1/35 tamiya kits in the past, where you get a lot more details (a mount for the machine gun, no gaps between parts, a more detailed target system on the coupla etc) and I'm grumpy
But your right the printed on tank is more than good enough for tabletop use and it's the right size.
The challenger 1 is a very cool tank the challenger 2 is even cooler IMHO but alas I can't find a 1/48 model of it, I hope that airfix will release one as part of their British forces range.
As earlier in this thread I want to make a comm centre piece of scenery for use in Deadzone, AVP (if it ships when it ships ) and now Infinity when I get Operation: Ice Storm.
It's going to be about 10" tall in the end, the ground floor will be the stilts with a backup generator surrounded by a chain link fence.
The 1st floor will be as below.
And the roof will have an antenna with a dish and maintenance platform aka snipers nest.
The whole thing will be modular for ease of storage/gameplay
Here's the plans for the 1st floor
I'm going to flip the "glass door to the other side of the floor because it didn't make sense they would have a massive window looking straight into the ops room.
Progress main walls cut out
I made a rookie mistake and gave too much room for the removable roof over the front window so I need to cut this out again.
And here's the test fit for the 2 floors together
(As always guardsman bob is there to provide a size comparison )
Stairs Here's the plan for the stairs leading to the door.
I was going to make the steps out of foamboard but I'll get some double tread plasticard instead (when I've got some money in the hobby fund again)
Automatically Appended Next Post: So I've dabbled on and off today and I've managed to get the main shapes and supports build
Here's the piece fitted together to get a feel for the layout
And
On the stilts.
Tomorrow after the gym I'll build the stairs(with temporary steps) and get the posts set for wire fence on the ground floor.
Aside form that I've just done a tiny bit of painting to my paint pile
and ripped off magnetised the Gun arm for this chap. Because I can't decide on which gun he ends up with.
First time I've done any magnetising and I'm a fan , I thought it was going to be more of a pain than it was that biggest pain was finding a pin vice with a chuck big enough for a 2mm bit.
I'll get it painted and finish assembling the gunship tonight
More progress on the comm centre
A new roof cut out and posts set for a chain link fence. I've also cut out clear plasticard for the 3 windows and the glass wall/door leading to the ops room.
I also started to build some scaffolding, mainly to make areas of any games more game accessible without adding ladders you wouldn't have normally on a building.
Not sure if I should add so e cardboard to look like the clips you would normally get on scaffolding.
I want to do a little bit more weathering (only done some wash streaks so far) and get some model plane decals on it for some extra details.( Ejection warning etc)
I'm really happy with how it's come out so far.
I think it will fit in for deadzone and infinity nicely (operation:icestorm has finally sold me on infinity I just need to decide if my Welsh/British Infinity faction are going to be a small Ariadna clan or Pan O.)
Ultramarine progress I've done some more work on my Ultramarines, the sergeant now has his bionic(well magnetic) hands and I've put together a missile launcher for the tac squad/kill team.
More pics in the spoiler tag
Spoiler:
Still more painting to do and I need to add more pouches to the missile launcher dude.
Anyone know of a good chainsword sheath bit?
And the whole gang so far
Next up for the squad will be a plasma gunner/ tech novice.
Cheers as always para. I want most of the marines to be in military poses if I can but the SRG being more melee orientated demanded a heroic pose. Getting him to stand in that position on that base was a right pain (i was lazy and didn't pin him)
Got paid today yay!!!! there are now funds in the hobby budget
So I've ordered the plasticard to get the steps done on he comm centre. I'll a little stumped at the moment on;
What to do for the floor detail? Do I just draw in tiles on some card or should I try to do dome decking like in hadleys hope(aliens)?
Should I cut off an inch and a half of the doorway so I can add a door that slides up and down?
And how should I go about making TV monitors for the ops room?
Because of this the plan for today is to tackle my current painting pile, with the remaining plague stage 3s the priority.
P.S.
I want down to firestorm games today and checked out their copy of mars attacks and the minis are looking good the faces overall looking on par with the restic ones from what I can see detail wise and the faces on the marines and Martians were really good. Edwins sword still looks like a sex toy though
"A new life, no more markers, no more fighting....why does this s*** always happen to me"
Isaac could hear the frontier town going to hell outside his tiny apartment as he finished strapping on his engineering suit, one of the relics of an old life of insanity and terror he hadn't been able to escape even out here.
He shook the dust off of his plasma cutter and loaded a fresh power cell, a woman screamed in the building next to him making him wince.
As he activated his helmet and looked out the window, it was carnage, hulking creatures tearing the townsfolk apart with claws and teeth. With a heavy sigh Isaac made for the door and the madness, time to do what he does best....
Time to survive
Isaac Clark in Deadzone
It's not come out in the picture but the black of the suit has a couple of green washes on it so there's a green tint.
Not as much done as I'd hoped this week (kidney infection has knocked me out for most of the week)
I Painted the toilet/roof access wall
I need to get a toilet sign printed and a sign printed with "roof access". But I'm happy with how it looks, the area before the actual ops room will be in this light grey colour. With the ops room being a dark grey.
I've also added detail to the emergency generator on the ground floor, and plastered the balsa stilts.( I would have left them plain but when I tested one the wood grain came through too much to count as steel girders)
Close up on the access hatch, just card embossed with a bic pen and plasticard handles.
Close up of the on off switch.
The square gap over the hatch will have one of those AK interactive headlights acting as a warning light/ generator is on or off light.
Other details
The gaps will be vents which I'll make and add after I've painted the rest of the generator (like the wire fences, and steps).

When you said you paint terrain with a kitchen sponge, what did you mean? Like, dabbing? I'm curious because I ussually end up using large brushes and its never really quite the coverage that I want.
And I am curious how you made the scaffolding. Have you pinned these rods into one another, or have you only glued it? If you glued it, how sturdy does it feel? Or is it meant to be part of a scenery piece, so it is attached to something else?
argonak wrote:When you said you paint terrain with a kitchen sponge, what did you mean? Like, dabbing? I'm curious because I ussually end up using large brushes and its never really quite the coverage that I want.
Yep just a dabbing, I can only get it to work with flat surfaces so it's great for Deadzone tiles. Warning it does get very messy.
With the bit I painted for the comm centre the sponge wasn't working because of the door frame and the corner. So I ended up stippling with a brush instead.
soulcow wrote:And I am curious how you made the scaffolding. Have you pinned these rods into one another, or have you only glued it? If you glued it, how sturdy does it feel? Or is it meant to be part of a scenery piece, so it is attached to something else?
rods weren't pinned just glued together with superglue (a lot of superglue). It's going to be a freestanding piece just the frame by its self is strong enough to hold a two metal Stanley knives (started to bow so I didn't try anything else) so it will be able to hold any models that would be able to use the scaffolding. It should get stronger with the floors added.
I was going to use BBQ skewers (awesomely strong) instead of plasticard rods but the scale nutter in me couldn't get past the fact that with the skewers the piles would be too big. (About 10" in diameter if you scaled it up)
Like I said earlier on I wanted a few of my Deadzone tiles to still have company logos on them (colonists can paint over everything but the company logo from the containers, because of free advertising). I was going to do a coca cola one but I couldn't resist the fallout reference.
P.S sorry if you came here for lots of fallout stuff, I do want to do some more later on but not enought time at the moment.
Comm Centre update
Only a small one, the base colours are going down on the ground floor
I wanted the emergency generator to look like one of those CAT ones, still lots of painting and washing to do.
Slight problem, the gap between the generator and the fence is only just big enough for a 25mm base as I'm going to be using a lot of lipped bases in AVP and on minis I want to look extra pretty I'm going to have to extend the fenced area to the pillar by the stairs this should be easy it just means I have to drill 2 holes and add more fence posts.
(And the OCD reason is that there wouldn't be enough room for anyone to open the generator hatches to do maintenance )
Unbelievably slow Ultramarine progress
I've done the highlights to Srg and the missile launcher dude. More kit to be added to both.
I think I've decided on the pose I want my fifth squad member to have so I should have him made this weekend.
A poor week hobby wise, the focus has been on rugby not hobby.
(It's a unique and unusual torture wanting to paint, but your post gym arms start to shake the moment your about to put paint to a mini)
I added some signs to my comm centre doors
Roof access painted 7 times the last being yesterday (damn gym arms )
I did buy one of these
And I'll get started on that as a reward for finishing my ultramarine squad and scouts.
And finally I found these in Ikea
I think their for candles but I think they will do great as basing materials. They have loads of different colours too including blue and red rocks that could be done to look like crystals on your minis.
Ah, a mini-Levi! I have one of the big'uns and there a great kit to put together, you should have some fun with that. Any plans for gaming use, or is it just a display piece?
I'm going to do the very unoriginal thing of painting up the mini Levi as a grey knight dread knight (I can't stand the exo thing).
If I can get them cheap off of ebay I might add some grey knight brass etch bits. (And maybe shave down the pointy elf shoes )
But this along with my grey knight term is are in the very large and expanding future projects pile.
I forgot to mention in the earlier post that the ikea things are only £1.75 for 750grams so I thought they were a bargain. I've based my forge father brokkrs tonight so I should have a comparison shot with the fine stuff compared to my smelly sand soon.
More paint went on the ground flood of the comm centre and so did the steps.
Once I get my wire mesh order from ebay I'll have the fence done. After the fence I just need to add some warning signs and a makers decal on the emergency generator.
And I started basing my forge fathers and zombiecide minis.
Half done with my smelly sand and the other half with my ikea find. I'll post some comparison pics when I've got time
Alongside my op:icestorm box I'm getting the paint I want for the floor of the comm centre, Ive just got my mesh for the fences but I've got to flatten it out before I start messing with it (looks like it came off a roll so curved at the moment.
The main delay is fear of messing up the oops room section.
I did however undercoat a lot of stuff
That's a tray of zombiecide zombies, zombiecide dogs, my deadzone brokkrs, some old genestealers and some Sulaco bases I got off eBay
Speaking of the sulaco bases, here's some painted with a 40mm base for my brokkr bike.
I've started to practice my xenomorph paint scheme for when AVP eventually ships
Not great pics sorry, this is just black primer, codex grey highlights a black wash and gloss varnish patches.
I also got these weird alien dog things from Hasslefree another eBay win
The legs needs some green stuff to fill the leg connections
A pulled shoulder and real life (I'm buying a house ) have ruined my hobby time.
All I've managed to do since the last update is;(sorry for the bad pics)
Fail at making and applying a serial number stencil to the gunship
I'll have to try again once I'm less angry at paper, paint and craft knifes
Blue tacked a marine together
(I have since undercoated the plasma gun and arms)
And starting fences on my comm centre terrain
Task for this weekend is to sort out the hobby corner
It's got too messy and the more messy it is the less I want to do hobby stuff.
Also very happy that my op:icestorm has arrived.
Not so happy that in the 2 and a bit months Since I put this order in, Wayland are still waiting on some Ork heads to send me :(
Good to see they got your copy of Icestorm to you, I too got a bit annoyed with the waiting but it is damn well worth it as a set. Looking forward to see what you do with it.
Albion rifles imperial guard Basically I wanted British ww2 imperial guard, quite low tech (the guys with no guns are waiting for a good 28mm scale bren gun)
This is Commander Shepard from when I started a Cadian force years ago.
(And I was playing mass effect obviously)
He needs a bit of a repainting to fit with the rest.
This is a conversion for a primaries psyker, I need to add some green stuff wires to the back of his head before I paint him.
Here's a close up of the infantry squad blobs
New heads, shoulder pads shaved down aside from the SRGs left pad. Grenade launchers made to look like those single shot ones you get in COD. Torsos green stuffed to remove the pecs and the power cell of the rifles moved from underneath to the side.
My Catachan devil vets (I've had these guys I one shape or another since the black crusade global campaign, the fluff was that the commander rescued them from that planet that abbadon blew up and they just stuck around with him and his Cadians.)
Catachan, Cadian, parts mostly with some bits from chaos marauders and Necromunda.
As I wanted them to be slightly lower tech than normal, sentinels didn't seem right so I gave them a scout jeep.
There's another jeep ready to be kit bashed in my pile too.
And of course you can't have guard without tanks
I stopped painting them when I couldn't get the soft edges on the camo makings . I'm going to have another go with my sponges when I get a chance. Otherwise they will have to wait till I get an airbrush.
I've got another leman Russ and a baneblade still on sprue too.
I'm going to get pictures of my ultramarines and deadzone stuff later
Thanks for looking

Ta Para
Looking at how small some of the detail is I feel I might ruin these, but we only get better by going out of our comfort zones
I've got to buy, make and add a multi Melta for the second hatch on the land raider. Both it and the rhino need some highlights and weathering.
Terminators
I might rip off the shoulder pads and replace them with forgeworld ones. I'm tempted to add some purity seals to em as well (it's this constant tinkering that stops me from varnishing my minis)
And the in progress tactical squad I hope to have the plasma gunner done this week. I want him to look like a tech marine in training so some tech stuff on the belt, a cogboy shoulder pad from the rhino kit and some his backpack to look like its carrying a high power vox.
There's the scout too but I didn't take a close up. Still working through these the most difficult part was finding different heads because I don't like the scout ones.
Theres an entire box full of marine bits, a drop pod, two bikes and a new tac squad kit to make in the pile too.
I think because I'm no playing 40k anymore some of the motivation has gone from getting these projects finished and I've prioritised Deadzone because I'm actually playing that.
Nice looking Ultramarine detachment there! Very sharp blues and clean whites!
I doubt you'll have too much trouble with the Icestorm minis, they are packed with detail but that really helps, actually! Just block in the colours and hit them with a wash and Bob's your Uncle!
I can sympathise with the 'not getting to play much' bit, I haven't had a game outside of pressganged family members since about March!
Ha pressganged family members tend to be poor adversarys too, or far too favoured by the dice gods.
Ta for the kind words as always dude. I was going to go for a bright clour scheme for the infinity mins but after seeing yours I'm thinking of changing my mind.
I was hoping to get some small flag decals so I could add them to the fusiliers shoulders(xcom style) but alas I can't find any small enough. Some are easily done but the UK and Welsh flags are way outside my skill at the size I want them.
So my scaffold has been sitting on my shelf for a while and it's a really quick win to get it done and build some hobby momentum.
But I couldn't decide if I should do the platforms as wood planks or try to sci fi it up a bit. And planks won't add much weight which will stabilise the piece.
After a lot of Umming And Ahhing I decided to just breakout the coffee stirrers and go for the wood planks, even in the future your going to go as cheap and hasslefree as possible.
Still to do on it add a ladder in the gap, paint the new plasticard I added, put a wash on the planks(I want to keep them light n piney) and I might try to model a turned over paint bucket plus spilt pain to add a bit of cool factor too it.
A tiny bit of progress on the comm centre and scaffold.
Comm Centre I've painted and added some extra details to the floor of the comm centre.
Time to get the opps room done, I need to get some office chairs and server stacks from ainstys and some screens from antenocitis.
Tomorrow I'm going to get the vents for the generator and warning signs for the fences done.
Scaffold Although it doesn't look like much I have painted the new poles on the scaffold and but a light wash on the planks.
I'm going to buy some leaders and try out my paint bucket idea tomorrow. Almost done.
I've also tried out using sponges to get a disbursement effect on my challenger tank camo.
Not happy with the outcome so I definitely need to get an airbrush. I'm going to watch the series on beasts of war when it comes on but do you have any suggestions?
Thanks for looking
P.s. Anyone know of a manufacturer making 28mm fire extinguisher?
Started putting my operation: icestorm minis together (after messing up my card cutting for the generator vents )
Here's a size comparison of the fussiliers and Nomad grunts(not even going to try spelling what their called yet ) with guardsman Bob.
Their bigger than Infinity minis used to be maybe this is a consequence of using digital sculpts?
But they are glorious and still within my scale tolerances,
After a lot of time messing around with restic the ease at cleaning metal was a breath of fresh air. Even if I did come very close to chopping off the Nomad girls pointing fingers.
Thanks for looking and apologies for the poor photos, I've only got the iPad for internet an pics at the moment any tips on taking better pic with my current set up?
I don't have a camera or anything either. I just use my phone (see my blog! ). Good lighting helps a lot. I think taking pics under a white light works out better. I just hold my mini up to the light at an angle where its lit up as clearly as possible. Sometimes it comes out a bit lighter then it really is but there are apps to fix that or the auto balancing thing the dakka gallery uses is good too.
Or you could build a simple lightbox. They're easy to make and work well and probably more practical lol. There's lots of tutorials online.
Nice terrain piece. I thought it was floating on water at first, because of the rippled glass surface it is on.
Have fun painting the Icestorm minis. Oh, Alguaciles-- All-Gwah-THEE-lays with the TH as in thing not these. Or just pronounce it as 'S' the way Spanish speakers do on this side of the Atlantic. means sheriff, more or less.

Terrain Jesus?
Alternatively you could call your nomad force a bakunin sectoral force and then call the grunts Moderators
Ive been very hesitant with painting these infinity minis, for fear of ruining the cool models and I didn't have a definite paint scheme in mind
Infinity PanO fussiliers painting progress I love the fusiliers, so much so i've already picked up the booster box and I'm trying to get hold of 2or3 more of the combi rifle guys(not miss PanO2014, one is enough of her) to try and convert.
Most base colours and eyes done
Infinity Nomad Alguaciles painting progress Most base colours and eyes done. In hindsight I should have just primed the black at the start.
Resin supply drop Ainstys castings http://www.ainsty-castings.co.uk Not amazing casts a few bubbles but nothing horrendous
I'm now going to be ready to start to finish off the interior of the comm centre the only question is do I wait for antenocitis kickstarter to pick up the monitors I need for the ops room
Really awesome casts no bubbles from what I can see, lots of great little details including keypads for my comm centre doors.
And finally ...............
Tall scale marines
Some better pics first
And the money shots
I've followed the classic "true scale" method as done awesomely by vet sergeant here
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/437416.page Where I've gone differently to the srg is I've made the torso thicker by 1mm and added an extra 1-1.5mm to the torso length as below.
I wish I could find the original tutorial still so I could chuck a link up. A lot of hard work but well worth it to settle my OCD.
And a massive pile of Space Marine plastic to tall up when I have the patience.
Hooray, a convert to red-bereted Fusiliers! Coming along nicely, it has to be said!
TS Marines do look cool, I really have to try that myself one day, although probably with Chaos or Deathwatch.
Nice supply drop as well, that stuff is quite the varied bunch and a TARDIS to top it all off! Dr Who Deadzone mod anyone? (Daleks would, of course, be completely OP )
And the tall scaling is awesome, nice job thickening the marine torso. Great stuff.
Thanks Dude

I want to get a TS deathwatch squad done at some point (along with chaos, space wolves and grey knights or go mad first), they just take so long to do I normaly get distracted by less labor intensive hobby stuff.
A Dr who deadzone mod could be cool, I think he'd fit more in with Mars attacks tho . I just like the idea of putting the TARDIS in ransom places on a board as an Easter egg like the Nuka cola tiles for Deadzone.
And I recon my bad ass Enforcer Sniper could still one shot a Dalek
Veteran Sergeant wrote:Glad I could provide some inspiration. Your Tall Scale Marines look fantastic. Very dynamic. I especially like the way the Plasma Gunner turned out.
cheers dude, I'm glad you approve.
have you made any further progress with your marines?
Infinity stuff is coming along nicely. Nice work on the marines too. Look much better when they're embiggened (it's a word! ). Did you make those bricky bases too? They look good!
Veteran Sergeant wrote:Nope. Haven't touched them in a hobby sense since April, lol. Too much going on over the summer.
They've been fighting Space Hulk battles. That's about it.
Hopefully you'll have a quiet autum and winter and we can see some more
ckig wrote:Infinity stuff is coming along nicely. Nice work on the marines too. Look much better when they're embiggened (it's a word! ). Did you make those bricky bases too? They look good!
Cheer dude.
The brick bases are old factory bases from micro art studio
Been slow going This week but nothing unusual there
Infinity PanO fussiliers painting progress Infinity Nomad Alguaciles painting progress Washed and ready for more work
Comm Centre update
door cut and base coated
The gap in the door frame lets it click in so I can have it open or closed
Started painting the lockers
Glass wall and door
Mars attacks kickstarter drop
The box
Soo much stuff
Not happy with the deluxe mat
The details are very fuzzy compared to the paper mats or the deadzone mat, is this just mine or are yours like this too?
But at first glance I'm happy with the rest of the haul, bent bits n all.
Martian reinforcements - somehow I've managed to get two more bugs and an extra regent.
Human reinforcements - so many bent gun barrels, and both of the natalyas were bent down to being flush with her base.
Lots of scenery - I'm going to get most of the ruins stuck together and fill in the plug holes.
And cars, lots and lots of cars
I love these and can't wait to get them painted
This week I want to get the infinity grunts done, get some Mars attacks painted, cut the desk and add the window frames in the and finish painting my TARDIS.
Paradigm wrote: The PanO and Nomads are looking great after the wash, and that's a ton of stuff to keep you going over the winter.
Ta dude
Starting to plan my Mars attacks painting, I think I'm going to paint up one of the trucks as joes mechanic's truck now I just need to find a towing winch to add on the back
Does anyone reading this know what camo/colour scheme US national guard vehicles and marines should be using for action in the US?
Excellent glass wall and door. May have missed it as I don't get to read much anymore, but where are those lockers from? They look good, and I could make use of them .
Almost sorry I missed out on Mars attack. Those cars look terrific, and the rest are getting nothing but good reviews(aside from the bent stuff).
Thought there wasn't going to be any hobby time between work, Farcry 4 and I went to the Wales v New Zealand match, shame about the result but the best seats I've ever had...
But I did manage to sneak some hobby time in mostly trying getting the Girlfriend into Mars Attacks but some modelling and painting too.
Scaffold update Deadzone ladders added, sadly their not 3" tall so I'll have to fill the gap in the middle, so it doesn't look like its floating.
I might also add some more poles to beef it up a bit and there's still the spilt bucket of paint I want to add.
Wayland Yutani Battlezone tile I might redo the middle of "Yutani" and "better", it's difficult getting the proportions right because of the gap in the tiles.
Cars Only base coated couldn't wait to get them painted.
TARDIS Now I just need a mini Dr who and some Mars attacks stats.
Very cool! Especially liking the TARDIS and the WY building!
The rugby result was a bit of a surprise, I thought; Wales pulled out a lead, I think it was something like 16-11 when I went to get a cup of tea in second half, and by the time I got back to the TV, NZ were well out in front. Looks like you had a great seat, though!

Yea there was a chance of winning but alas another year to the losing streak to NZ.
It's not all bad as there were some good performances, figures crossed for the South Africa game on Saturday they need to beat at least one Southern Hemisphere team this year.

Thanks for reading as a reward here's my finished scaffold scenery.
Nice touch with the split paint there! Looking forward to those various projects. Possibly a dumb question, but is that scaffolding just sprue or rod? Because if it is that simple, I might have to try it myself!
I can completely sympathise with having too many things to get done hobby-wise! Just this year I've worked on Space Marines, Eldar, 3 Deadzone factions and 5 different LotR armies! Maybe, unlike me, you'll manage to focus on one thing without getting distra-
The scaffold bars are just plasticard rods Superguled together.
I used a lot of superglue so there was a mound on the joint areas, its pretty dolid with the support bars and the stirrers glued on but when i originsly just had the frame it felt very flimsey.
It's worked quite well for me in deadzone and infinity. For me it's mainly used to give access to the top of 2 storey buildings without having to add a ladder that looks a bit out of place/just there for gameplay.
Mars Attacks
Apologies for the poor pictures finally got some decent light to take pics but by the time I was able to take them the sun had hid behind a cloud.
Marines WIP The front row are were finished but I'm not a 100% on the uniforms. I want them to look like the marines in battle: LA. So less brown more grey.
Martians WIP The Front rank are the most further along still need to add some highlights after a dark wash and add the metallics to the hoses, weapon etc.
Eva finished IMHO she looks good in real life, in this picture not so much.
I don't know if it was me being too heavy on the primer but when I came to painting her hands and gun there wasn't much detail there. So I drew in e fingers with a micro pen.
Cars finished ... For now Really happy with these so you'll have to put up with more pics of them.
I don't know if I should add car numbers on the roofs of the police cars, licence plates and to truly send me crazy try painting the taxi sign.
Martians painted, still need to do the bases at some point but I can't make my mind up on how to do them yet.
I think I might buy some of the Pegasus loose bricks and use them on some of the bases but I kind of like the cartoon paving stone base I did with the Martian Srg so.....I don't know.
I went with the cartoon paving for the bases on these guys I'll get the other 10 based differently so there's a nice mix.
MA Marines Still can't find a great reference pic for the marines uniform in battle:LA. They won't look much different to how they are now to be honest but I'll have the satisfaction of knowing.
crashed SUV I'll give the bottom a spray of model mates mud brown when my order comes through
MA terrain This is some of the terrain that is going to live in the Game box so I haven't spent ages on it. For the rest of the Mars attacks terrain I've got I'll glue them together and fill in the gaps/joins.
And since that Tardis purchase I just couldn't resist
Without a base they actually look the right height too
Thanks for looking
Apologies for the photo quality and C & C welcome as always
The Martian bases look awesome, as does the flipped car.
Given the height of those new Daleks, I think you could get away with basing them if you want to. I wish someone did Ecclestone/Tennant-era Daleks in scale at a decent price, I just can't stand the new ones. Well, I say new, they pretty much got phased out after a series or two! How's that for a retcon?
Should look decent painted up, in any case. Any plans for the Heresy Minis Not-Doctor minis? Would round out the set rather nicely!

Yea the I-Daleks were a bit poo weren't they. But I'm not a fan of most of moffats run in charge of the who verse, it's a shame really that the quality of the scripts isn't there for Jenna Coleman and Malcom Tucker (he'll never be Peter cappaldi again) cause they are awesome.
Which is why I'm going to go for this Not Doctor from Crooked dice
Test piece for My next piece of scenery once I finish the comm centre scenery.
Just paper and card to check the measurements.
The Big important Bank
It's going to be a ruin so it should be quite a quick build, the time consuming bit will be embossing brick patterns to the walls.
Just over 6"x6" square and 7" and a quarter high, maybe 2 floors with the second being more of an inner balcony.
There will be stairs leading up to the doors which I hope I'll be able to get hinged.
I might magnetise the sign so I can change it to an administratum/post office if the desire took me.
I'm really tempted to add a clock tower on the roof above the door with an actual clock. But this might be too adventurous.
Just need to finish the comm centre now but adding the window frames is scaring me
That is looking really cool! And I love the idea of it being convertable to a Post Office.
Enforcer Unit A32 holstered his rifle as the last smoking corpse,, something that might have once been human before the Plague ravaged its form, fell to the ground, still twitching. Behind him lay a trail of caranage a mile wide, smoke rising skywards in black streams. He sighed quietly.
"I only came to Nexus Psi to post a bloody letter!"
Now I've got the urge to repainting my enforcers in Royal Mail uniforms
Progress has been made (only a tiny bit but still)
Windows and frames are in.
More interior detail added
New back wall painted, desk added and screens painted.
Next I need to make switches (lots of switches), finish adding the screens to the monitors (I might add a coat of gloss varnish over the screen pictures), make some things that look like shutter housings for the windows and Buy 2 keyboard minis (anyone know where I can get these aside from the office set from thormillion?)
I might glue the back wall in now so I can get started on the outside but it will make adding the keyboards a pain later.
Also I repositioned the arms on my aiming true Scale marine
The gun was a bit too high before this position looks more like a real aiming position to me.
I've got the pad to myself today so I'm hopping to get a lot of hoppy stuff done (in between the rugby of course)
I note a Cote D'Arms paint pot in the bottom photo. How is that brand to use?
I love Coat d'arms paints. Their the old citedel paints (when they were in the same pots).
I've not had one dry up on me yet, they cover well (the White of my Deadzone enforcers is just one layer of the light grey colour) and I find the paints do not need much if any watering down to use.
I used to get them from Artemis Blacks but now I've Moved to Cardiff, Firestorm dosent stock them
JoeRugby wrote: Next I need to make switches (lots of switches), finish adding the screens to the monitors (I might add a coat of gloss varnish over the screen pictures), make some things that look like shutter housings for the windows and Buy 2 keyboard minis (anyone know where I can get these aside from the office set from thormillion?)
Door also made for the chain fence. This needs to be painted and glued in.
Screens finished and added
I've ordered some keyboards from black cat bases one I get these I can finish off the interior and move on to texturing the exterior.
True Scale Marines
Refitting the arms on that Marine has encouraged me to start my next batch of True scale marines/finish off my scouts and terminators.
The only mini I have a plan for at the moment is the biker who I want to be resting with one foot off the bike aiming at something with his bolter.
Here's a scale shot of a heightened scout (1.5mm already added) and terminator (2mm's already added) next to one of my true scale marines and of course guardsman Bob.
I need to add an extra 2mm to the terminator and 1mm to the scout.
Not a lot of hobby time over the last few weeks, most of my time has been spend doing up my house before I move in.
My experience with lack cat bases seems to have been the same as others, absolutely no communication since I placed my order so I've put in a dispute on PayPal to get my cash back. Such a shame.
I lost patience waiting for the rest of the interior to be finished so I glued the back wall on and textured the exterior walls.
Just stippled poly filler and sealed it with watered down PVA to make it stronger.
I also managed to get the exterior painted and weathered yesterday.
The bare wall at the front is going to have a C2 stencil on it (to add a bit of colour)
I also fixed the roof, so it's now less warped and sits flush with the walls
That leaves me with the following to do before I'm finished
Ground floor Buy AK interactive lenses to add warning light to generator.
Paint and add door to chain link fence
1st floor exterior Print out C2 stencil and paint on
1st floor Interior Add switches and door handles to interior
Order and add keyboards to Ops room
Paint and glue down Ainsty office chairs
Roof Build "communications" tower - will be about 4-5" tall with a maintenance platform/sniper nest at 3" again in keeping with Deadzone.
Build Roof AC vents
Texture and paint
Better get back too it then
Thanks for looking if anyone knows anywhere else that makes some affordable keyboard models please let me know.
Oops not updated the thread in a while. (Been waiting for some good light to take some pics of my infinity and Mars attacks progress)
So I haven't got pictures of that but I do have loads to show with my comm centre piece.
Wall of pics starts in ....

1
Communications tower
Maintenance platform
Because health and safety exists everywhere
Fun with homemade stencils
Air conditioning units
More Interior detail
Fire extinguisher, Keyboard and mice added. I also added a spilt can of coke to the desk.
Last few pieces to be sprayed before they are painted and glued on
It's part of a vent from the Mantic Battlezone's landing pad ( the one that slots into the floor tile with the gap in it) with some card wrapped around the bottom.
Finished ....Finally done after many months on and off.
I think I hit the brief I set for myself, Usable for multiple systems (inquisimunda, infinity, AVP(when prodos send me mine :(), deadZone etc)
I have faffed a bit with the build to be honest, but that was partly down to using some new techniques and materials. It's not perfect but I have learned a lot making this which will hopefully make my next piece better.
Thank you all for looking and commenting it's really helped keep me motivated to finish this build.
P.S here's a boat load of pics
Litter and the worlds toughest litter picker
I think guardsman Bob is putting to much faith in the chain link fence
An Orc shows his manners by closing the door behind him
The good mannered Orc taking in the view
Another long gap with the updates, just didn't have the light to take decent photos
Mars attacks
Marines The minis are ok some better than others and some with hardly any facial detail (this might have been me being heavy handed with the spray mind you)
I tried to get 'em to look like the marines from Battle: LA, which is why they're in desert fatigues. Finding a good reference photo was a right pain.
Initially they were a lot yellower but I re-base coated them in grey and added the camo again to make it less deserty.
Heroes Eva and Prince Charming from Shrek.
Eva I've tried to get her looking like a cop - Duh. Not a lot of detail on her shotgun (again this might have been me being too heavy with the spray paint.
Only issue with Charming was a bendy sword but hot water to the rescue
Martians
I love these guys
They were fun to paint and there was a decent amount of detail on all the models (for board game plastics)
The only niggle I had was the helmets not fitting very well.
Cars so far
More Mars Attacks Heroes
I didn't have the patience to do freehand all over bucks shirt so he's just got the one bit of pattern on the back.
Lots more Mars attacks minis to do.
The group at the front all need the hot water treatment.
The grey minis are my Anvil industry kickstarter minis and some Republic commandos waiting to be based.
My first painted Colony 87 mini
I love these minis and I should have a couple more done soon.
I've wanted to have a sci-fi German force for a while and these models are awesome.
Some of the best plastic minis I've put together for ages. I'll probably use them as Imperial guard storm troopers in anything 40k universe related.
The Eisenkern fluff shouldn't be that had to merge with 40k for my own Narrative. Same as the Warpath universe fluff being mostly the same but being formed by rouge traders who have been forgotten by the imperium until now.
I'll get some Bundeswehr decals for them at some point, and I'll get the accessories set before making any more of the 20 I've picked up.
Anvil industries Republic commando test mini
I'm waiting on some Union Jack decals from fallout hobbies for the left shoulders.
Another awesome mini. I picked up a squad of Republic commandos in anvils recent sale. I might use them for vets in my Albion imperial guard army or near future Brits in anything else I play. (Maybe up armoured U.N.I.T. troops for Dr who )
Awesome as usual! The Anvil and Dreamforge stuff looks like it would work really well together (as opposition factions), especially with that paintscheme. I really need to get some of boh at some point!
Test schemes for some Orks Going for blood axes because I wanted them rocking red camo patterns(so they can be sneaky but do it fast... duh!!). I'll also end up using them as Orx in Deadzone.
Dire Avengers
Got some dire avengers finished....
And I've built up the rest of the squad....
Made 4 of the dire avengers into Women by adding some boob armour from the Eldar guardians sprue. Very easy conversion the hardest part is getting ahold of the female torsos
Finished - Mars attacks - Martian Marines Pics taken without the helmets as they don't photograph well and my pics are bad enough already.
Finished - Mars Attacks/Antenocities workshop -Crashed Saucer Love this bit of scenery
Fluff from the anvil website for her
Natalya Federici, Vargo's daughter, heir and prodigy, is a rising star within the new Republic, in overall command of the Republic's armed forces. In the face of the Unity Councils numerical superiority, Natalyas determined and brilliant tactical leadership has allowed the Republic to hold the line for now. Natalya fights on the front line through her PROTOS battle Avatar, and will directly lead one of the SHARD strikes against Unity City. The PROTOS avatar is an advanced prototype, controlled by Natalya from a distance with a remote Mind-Link, she ocupies the PROTOS as though it were her own body, experienceing the world and slaying her foes through its eyes.
I was trying to get it to look like the Metropolis robot.
All the anvil stuff I've had so far has been amazingly cast and this mini was no exception.
Finished - Colony 87 - Lord- Governor Manduc Greiss Love these minis two more to finish from the set before the next wave Kickstarter in February.
Wow, that lightbox makes a load of difference! I think the skin looks fine (though I'm not familiar with what you're basing it on), if you wanted to go paler you could just add some more highlights with a little 'cold' grey/off-white in your mix at the most stretched areas of skin, that would lighten the whole tone while not destroying the good work that's already there.
@GiraffeX - be warned its a pain trying to find bits sellers selling the female guardian torso for a decent price, I struggled so much I ended up buying a eldar guardians squad just to be able to do it......
Pretty exciting hobby week with my partial AVP pledge showing up
The predator and Alien minis are stunning, and when you get them they do make the wait slightly more tolerable in hindsight
the marines are really good sculpts and casts but their too big ( about 34/35mm tall on average)to go with the rest of my collection so that takes the shine off them. I'll get a size comparison pic done soon.
Missing the arm from one of the preds and the head on the power loader is miscast, otherwise the rest of the minis ( that are approved) seem all there.
PIP The current mid painting pile
Hasslefree Mawe's, colony 87 merchant, GW scout sniper, infinity pan o drop trooper, and a load of anvil industries republic comandoes in the background
The Mawe's skin is finished just need to get the rest painted and based now
No idea how I'm going to do the leaping Mawe's base
Current pile to be undercoated before the rugby today ( 2 of the infant aliens already made it into be painted)
Deadzone Marauder goblin sniper Same theme as my 40k tester ork with black red and grey camo. I'm planning on using 40k Orks for my Deadzone Marauders.
Think I'll make the camo a bit chunkier in the future
Mars attacks scatter scenery These have come out better than I'd expected,
Thanks for looking, C&C welcome, and should be more posted tomorrow
Going to do the same with 40k orks for deadzone myself. This guy looks a bit too busy for me, but that is a totally personal thing, good job, just a bit busy.
I WANT AVP
And I am thinking of getting those Maws and using them as squigs for goblins to ride on!
What are those red casualty figures from? I'd like to get my hands on some of those. Also, I really like the Mars attacks scatter terrain. The trash cans are my favorites.
@Cam - He is too busy, there was something nagging at me about it and I think that hits it on the head, thanks
I want to go down the camo look for the Orks if I do bigger camo patterns that should make it less busy.
@waaazag - Their casualty minis from Mars attacks, 2 marines and one Martian.
Colony 87 Noblewoman
The penultimate mini finished from colony 87
Very Happy with my skin work on this one.
It took me ages to work out what colours I wanted for her clothing, but I think the blue n turquoise works.
Went with a skin coloured body suit for her clone pet, to play on the creepy factor a bit more
Only the merchant to go now
Anvil Industries Wardrones
Not my best pics on this one
I was aiming for them to look similar to the chappie robots..
Their ok, the do look better in real life, the edge high lighting hasn't come off that well.
I might come back to them as not 100% happy
Xenomorph
So I couldn't wait to paint my AVP Aliens (been waiting over 2 years after all).
Here's my test paintjob for the Xenomorph
Really simple letting the beautiful mini do the work, just drybrushed, washed and the done painted in gloss varnish.
I went for metal claws to match the teeth, but I'm not sure this is movie accurate (my Google fu showed both)
Noblewoman and Drones are good... but that Xenomorph is fething perfect! Simple paintwork or not, it looks exactly like it should. Lovely tones, great use of the gloss varnishing, great base too!
I reckon the claws might look better in the same gloss black as the head... At the moment, they look ever so slightly 'tacked on' as most of the mini is so monochrome. Either works, though.

Thanks Para
I see what your saying about the claws, I'm going to rewatch the alien films this week and give the other one I've got primed glossy black claws
Not a lot of 40k done recently that should change with my dire avengers being primed on the weekend and a hooded head being found for another scout.
Going to have a crack at some more "true scale" marines this weekend using the Horus heresy plastics. (Ideally a ultramarine and a black legion chaos conversion)
Ultramarine scout sniper
Finished another one
2 more and Telion to go
Went nostalgic with the blue eye paint and Mohawk
Aegis defence line auto cannon I do love this bit of scenery, the rest of the line will make it into my pile soon.
Febs mini purchases
Only 2 purchases this month and their possibly 2 of my favourite 40k minis ever
Love the death corps commisar I just think he looks completely bad ass.
Same for this orlock ganger
Thanks for looking and any C&C is most welcome, should be back on weekend with more stuff.
Not a lot finished this week, but everything in my active PIP pile now has some more paint on it than just primer.
PIP
Dire avengers got a blue base coat, republic commandos now have the black armour plates ready for a black wash.
No progress on the rest tho.
Xenomorph 2 Decided to go with gun metal claws instead of the silver in the last one.
I did try black gloss claws like the head but it didn't work for me.
Now to clean the rest of my pledge ( was too excited to clean the 2 I've done so far and some of the paint did flake on thie second one)
Put together some of the plastic enforcers for a crack at v2 of Deadzone in a few days.
Soon to be joined by the enforcers from my WIP pile.
Once their pained I'll sell off the old restic enforcers. (Apart from the sniper cause the sniper is the 2nd most bad ass model in the Deadzone range.)
I gloss varnished the white armour parts to look like an Iphone case for a clean sci-fi look.
Crashed Aquilla lander
More progress on the crashed lander, just the cockpit to go but that's going to take a fair bit of work to sort out the gaps.
The enforcers in restic would have been better if they'd been in fewer pieces. The Plastics paint up really nicely though, and you've done a really good job on yours
When used in my "Nateverse" (40k head cannon where I try to fit other sci fi settings in e.g mantics warpath universe is a subsector south of the segmentum tempestus founded by rouge traders after the heresy)
AKA
Albion S.A.S "Who dares Wins"
"The S.A.S regiment has a heritage going back to the first colonisation of the Albion system and even Terra itself.
For decades before the dark they were the elite of Albion's military, and that's all that is still recorded of them just the initials a motto and barley two sentences.
No one knows what happened to them, many think they were discarded by the techno knights of the noble families during the dark.
When Guilliman brought the great crusade to the Albion and united the Colonies they were just a footnote in a militarum history textbook.
It wasn't until 1000 years later that they would be reformed.
Major David Stirling during Waaagh Mary, recognised the need for an elite Commando unit to perform the tasks high command would wait 11 years for the Astartes to arrive for, after a lot of arguing eventually Stirling got his own way.
Named because he remembered the motto from his days in the Scolar, the S.A.S performed lightning raids and assassinations crippling the Ork invasion leading to Albion's forces eradicating the greenskins before the Astartes arrived.
The legend restored it has only grown since."
Size Comparison Now to get them to fit a bit better with my collection I added a mm to the bottom of their bases
They now fit in well enough for me, definitely within my OCD tolerances.
Thanks for looking and reading my bit of badly written fluff
Very much approve and like the idea, hey this is a fictional infinite universe, so what you say goes. I personally like the idea so much going to steal it.
N-verse fluff
"The Xenomorph is a recurring threat amongst the stars, rarely seen in the numbers purged during the great crusade they still show up on space hulks, rouge trader vessels and remote colony's (1).
Xenomorphs are deadly creatures but often overlooked for more numerous and dangerous species (2), Xenomorphs have no space faring capacity so outbreaks while bloody are usually self containing.
As I will discuss later Xenomorphs are Parasitic, needing a host to propagate. After the initial larval form (3), the Xenomorph will quickly develop into the below specimen.
It is hotly debated among my colleagues if this form is mearly an infant form of the Xenomorph or acts as a drone within the hive structure.
Please Note all Xenomorph forms have acidic blood capable of eating through most personal protection shy of power armour(4). Precise Weapons that cauterise their target are preferable when dealing with these threats
So while you may wish to hit them with your hammer "of overcompensation" Inquisitor Dario please be mindful of splash back.
1. Likely as a result of unauthorised salvage of said space hulks
2. Genestealers share a lot in common with Xenomorph's but understandably gain priority over them from my colleagues.
3. Crudely referred to as chestburster
4. With enough volume/ repeated application the acid will eventually penetrate/ dissolve most substances."

Fluff bits over the grey is a lot darker in real life, looks like I'll have to play around with my lighting set up again.
While these are finished for the time Being ill come back to some of them at a later date to add drool
Thanks cam, always good to know when someone else enjoys my head cannon
2/04/16 - Facehuggers
the lifecycle of the Xenomorph starts as an egg birthed from a Queen organism.
Theses eggs host the "Facehuggers"
"Facehuggers" are The Delivery system for the Xenomorph parasite, a seemingly weak and insignificant threat that sometimes proves more deadly than its adult counterparts.
Small and stealthy once the Facehuggers latches on it, is impossible to remove without killing the victim (1)(2), in addition the eggs are often placed like organic land mines.
The Parasite can bond with most biological beings in the galaxy the resulting Xenomorph will adopt trades from the host creature (3)
1- so far successful removal of the Facehugger has taken place with the victim surviving, but there are rare accounts of the Xenomorph larvae being removed post "hug" with the host surviving.
2- we have discovered corpses of ork victims where (in typical Orc fashion) have tried to chew through the Facehugger to escape it's grasp. Needless to say the corpses are found with their faces melted.
3 - So far we have encountered Xenomorph variations from most creatures in the galaxy including Grox, Yndij,Tau, Eldar and before their final cleansing Morat. Thankfully there are no recorded cases of an Astartes being infected to put to rest the debate on if any Astartes traits would be passed to the Xenomorph Variation.

I was a bit lazy with these to be honest just base coated, then washed but I like the result anyway.
Finally got around to buying a new jigsaw and workbench so I can get back to making some scenery.( finally!)
I'll be doing something with these
....This
Building this
Finishing this
The battlezone fortification sprues are a right PITA to work with but I want this to have another tower, It'll all be glued together because of the fortification sprue issues.
.....And this
Had this at Christmas, had a few near misses with ruining it so pretty scared of this beast.
The door sections are crazy fiddly and fragile and I've broke (but managed to repair) 3 of the 8 I've put in so far.
I fell in love in love with this kit when it was first shown.
My Girlfriend got me this for my birthday a couple of weeks ago, Firestorm had a delay getting it so I only got it Saturday.
Here's what you get in the box.
MDF is pre coloured Pro tip - there is a layer of paper over the top of the white bits to avoid any laser soot/ burn marks. Don't be a muppet like me and email Antenocities workshop asking Why it's not coloured :( ( a big thank you to Nadine at Antenocities for being kind to me when I realised I was a muppet)
The panda is gorgeous but really fragile until you glue it all together.
Leisurely Progress after 2 episodes of 24
Really easy kit to put together
Only issue I have is that there no instructions for the kitchen area table, or where the resin parts (other than the door pieces and what you can see in pics online) are supposed to go.
And 1 episode later
All the external MDF parts are all done (really easy kit), I've added a bit of paint to the kitchen counter (still not worked out how to assemble the table yet) and painted the the edge of the Panda sign black.
Now to clean up the resin pieces, get them painted and in the building.
I'm debating on magnetising the Panda sign for storage/ make it less likely to get snapped of when I'm being an oaf.
Do you think I should paint the edges of the White parts to get rid of the MDF charred brown? And Should I magnetise the Panda or just glue on?
Ended up gluing the panda to the piece, the area for the magnets was a little too thin for the ones I own.
Might go back and get a couple of varnish coats over the TV monitors and I need to clean up that yellow smudge on the shelves :(
Review Negatives No instructions for the interior placement and table build - you can work it out from pics online tho
No floor - this is the big let down for me, I would have preferred it to have a floor but your mostly going to use on an urban table so shouldn't look that weird.
Positives That Panda is so damn cute......
Really easy build
Great detail on the resin bits
Don't need to paint anything if you don't want too but the resin bits look really nice with the extra colour.
I really love that panda.
Overall really happy with the kit, if you play sci fi games and can get your hands on this I think you should
That's a cool looking building. Though I'd probably chop off the giant Panda and try to make it much more dingy and run-down looking so the "Happy Panda" is a bit more ironic and sad, lol.
But I like my Sci-Fi dystopic. I mean, after all, there needs to be a reason why everyone is unhappy and fighting all the time.
Nice work on the noodle bar. Not sure how good noodles made from panda would taste though. A bit like bamboo maybe?
It is a fairly detailed kit. Antenocitis make excellent products. It does illustrate one of the limitations of MDF though, the difficulty in making curved pieces. That front piece would look better if it had been resin or plastic, and thus without all the cut marks on it.
Nice work, sir! That will look great on the gaming table.

cormadepanda wrote:That panda is really damn cute. Why not just apply your own floor? Seems reasonable. HOLY GAWD MY CHEST POPPED. I love your xenomorphs. So awesome.
Thanks
I initially thought your comment about your chest bursting was due to the cuteness of the Panda

Ta Red
Very true about the MDF, I was going to run filler over the curved surface to get rid of the cut marks but when I assembled it I liked the look with the additional lines rather than a smooth surface.
Also I reckon panda would taste like chicken......
Edit: according to Google Panda should take like fattier beef
Re- Floor - I will make a base for it eventually maybe incorporating some seating (so customers can be charged and extra 10% for eating their panda noodles onsite)
Just a shame for me that it didn't have something there from the get go like the 4ground stuff I've played with so it could be a self contained unit.
P.S Later than said (blame Dark souls 3) but here ya go Cam
Stoic arms door Hinge detail
Doors are all made up of 3 pieces (door itself and the 2 rectangles with the holes)
The door pegs go into the holes.
You glue in the bottom and top bits to the building (making sure that you don't glue the door)
And it moves (even if you break the top bit putting it in then repair it)
That comes to £96.83 so just in budget. Putting a spending freeze on for the next few months (only limited edition/crazy deal purchases) got more than enough to get on with especially with Deadzone KS shipping soon.
Also got these for my bday at the end of March, I'm not opening the Overkill box until I've cleared one of my PIP draws, and I'm going to try to "tru scale" the marines like my Ultramarines.
Which brings us nicely to
April PIP
Can't remember where I saw this but someone suggested using one of these from ikea
For organising hobby bits. It works really well so I've got a shelf for tools and ongoing minis. A big thanks to that hobby dude whoever you are.
AVP
Theres only a few Alien warriors still needing some green stuff after being reposed and that will then be all the Xenomorphs ready to go.
Got the missing bits for my power loader, marine and predator from Prodos so they should be in the PIP mix soon.
Misc Loads going on here
A no prize if you can identify all the minis in the pile.
GW/40k Dire avengers are still there, really struggling to find the motivation to just get them finished.
They have now been joined by an orlock ganger(one of my favourite ever GW minis) and an engineseer.
Onto the finished stuff
Runner Xenomorph test Tried to get her looking like the movie version, not perfect but it looks good to me.
I've got more bases from Fenris, so I can get the rest of the runners finished off shorty
Enforcers Another batch of enforcers finished.
"MyVerse Fluff"
"The Enforcers of the Co Prosperity sphere(1), are an attempt by the Rouge trader Dynasties to have their own Astartes.
Armoured in Xeno tech (2) each enforcer is stronger, tougher (3) and faster than an unenhanced human, but not to the same degree as an Space marine. (4)
They are the backbone of the ruling elites power and as such serve only the 7 Rouge trader dynasties who run the CoOperations(5) this is In part due to the cost of maintaining these Enforcer units and partly due to trade agreements with the Forge fathers who provide the Power Armour the enforcers use.
1. A large sector of space south of the Segmentum Tempestus founded by Rouge Traders.
2. Many of my colleagues believe the Forge fathers are an off shoot of the Squat abhumans, but limited contact means no conclusive evidence has been found.
3. Enforcers are able to operate after serious injury even limb removal, it's believed to be some form of combat drug similar to slaught but far more refined.
4. For an account of Enforcer vs Astartes see Lord Inquisitor Hofstadter's "Audit of CoOperation" where Hofstadter engineers a confrontation between his Deathwatch bodyguard and a group of Enforcers to intimidate the Rogue trader he was meeting with.(6)
5. Pronounced Corporations by themselves
6. It worked
..............Inquisitor Justice Sedante Ordo Xenos
Keeping the iPod armour on these, pretty happy with them though I'll probably re do the power knife
Family photo
All my enforcers as they stand (most of the old restic ones are going to the EBay), I went back and redid the armour on the sniper and the Peacekeeper captain to match the rest.
Soo much stuff
Not going to be able to go through all of it so here's some of the new stuff
New Board Game plastic characters
Here are Enforcer "master chief", biker Blaine, abomination and the Piper
As they come
Components Assembled!
Miles better than the previous restic minis and better than most of the mantic metals I've seen too.
Their not as good as resins or metals from other companies but their still nice and a good step forward for mantic
Really happy with them will need to see how they take paint before I give my final verdict on them though.
The enforcer is going to be painted like Master chief that's a given.
Not painted any of my Blaines yet but his speeder bike is def going to be red
Still trying to come up with a scheme for my space rats.
Size comparison of the abomination and Gen 1 plague beast
teraton shocktrooper
In the fluff the reb teraton is female who are larger than the male Teratons.
That's all for now please let me know if there's anything you specifically want a pic of.
Continuing my trawl through my Kickstarter shipment
Here are the forge father steel warriors
The sprues
What I built
What's left to go into the bitz box
Size comparison with Guardsman Bob and Fusilier Jones
My thoughts
I fell a little in love with these little guys during the Kickstarter that's why I've got 30 of them (6 sprues)
So I was really happy seeing the detail on the parts up close, it is a lot better than the enforcer and zombie sprues.
But when I came to put them together I was a bit let down by the poor fit between the 2 torso halves(doesn't line up and there are gaps in the arm and neck joints) and then the torso to the legs.( gaps around e sides no lower back if you put the torsos on straight but there is. less when you angle the torsos, I tried this on all the minis)
Thankfully you can't really see the gaps when the whole model is put together.
Overall happy with the kit despite its faults and looking forward to building the rest of the little buggers.
I need to green stuff the pointing rats arm as I cut the end off to get it pointing sideways.
Took a fair bit of repositioning to get the fuel tank hose attached to the acid thrower.
Really stuck on how I'm going to paint them, thinking lots of dry rushing to get the arms looking furry and rusty metal but no idea how I'm going to do the rest.
What's left for the bits box
Size comparison with Guardsman Bob and Fusilier Jones, and a photo bombing bjorn.
My thoughts
The torsos dont match flush with the legs, but their wearing bulky jackets so no a big issue (tried a few torsos on each set of legs) the fat malignius(sp) body is pretty bad though.
Some mold lines across the middle of the heads (not kit breakingly bad for the most part though) and the neck ball joints don't look great unless the heads are facing straight forward
But there are Loads of options and it's got lots of nice detail
Overall a nice kit but I can't help but start pondering what skaven bits I can mix in.
Any ideas for cool skaven Veer myn kit bashes?
Starting to take pics with a camera not just my tablet, I'm in need of more practice especially with the focus
May PIP
All the minis that i currently have on the go (that are more than just undercoated).
No xenomorphs in the pile cause i finished them all , just going to take time to get them pictured(Damn summer sunlight)
Heres one the GF did manage to get tho…
Enforcer: Spartans
There are 2 types of Spartans in the CoOperation sphere
The first are garishly attired propaganda personalities. A uniform and role for an Enforcer to adopt when his unit will be in the public eye. These "Spartans" are immortal, or the CoOperation council would have the populous believe. Whenever these "Spartans" fall their replaced and put back on the vid casts.
The second are the ones we need to pay attention too. While they sometimes share the garish armour with the other "Spartans". These are the elite of the Enforcers, each a seasoned veteran, a gifted warrior and Astartes killers.
For their abilities these Enforcers are given far more latitude by the Council. Some not having an assigned unit, sent wherever the council or they think they will be most needed.
Fortunately for the imperium the number of Enforcers to achieve this title is incredibly low, recorded at just over a dozen at last count.

Enforcer :Spartan Sergeant Howlett “I’m the best there is at what I do bub!
Let's find out.
...........Last Audio recording of Brother Dario of the Crimson fists (seconded to the Deathwatch)”
Never any doubt he was going to be painted up as Wolverine
Not done much hobby for the last few weeks, and I've been even worse with scenery. i have managed to get some games of deadline in though so thats a plus.
I did put together the wolsung stalls i picked up in April.
Now to prime and paint them. Anyone have experience priming MDF with GW spray?
Also working on these for some chain link fences.
Two sets in the pic, The set in the middle will be for sale after I'm done (part of me trying to part fun my hobby budget each month one for me one for you type of thing.)
Next job is to get some sand on the bases before putting the mesh on, then painting time.
In addition to scenery, last night i managed to put together a couple minis for Deadzone
Reb Strider - sorry for the giant pics
Wanted him to look like he was aiming the Gun at something.
Enforcer Jetbikes
the knife thing isn't legal but it does look cool, I've assembled the bikers separately so they can be painted more easily and to potentially have enforcers mount/dismount bikes in game. (of Deadzone)
there is another bike to be made, I'm going to make it a crashed one as scenery.
Enforcer Peacekeepers
Pretty standard, thought of them as working in 2 teams of 2(one shield and one rifle and power glove) with a leader.
Enforcer Pathfinders
4 tag rifles, 1 sniper (the sniper isn't worth it point wise in deadline at the moment) and 2 dogs (sold the other pathfinders),
i like that you can make the character pathfinder out of the bits on the sprue.
Great start to the fencing. You using Aluminium Mesh for the fence itself?
As to paint, I often have used Hycote Primer, it is a cheap primer usually £5 a tin in your Home Bargains type stores. It is usually for car body work, make sure you do not get the one with the filler in it. Cheap enough and works fine for terrain, would not use it on minis though. Been wanting to get hold of the Rustoleum stuff, saw it once in a store, can't remember now where though. I do hear good things about it though.
@Cam i'll have a hunt in home bargains tomorrow. thanks. almost picked up some car body work spray paint from pound land but remembered the bit about the filler so dodged a bullet there
@JoshinJapan I'm going to be using wire mesh for the fencing. i should still haven enough from when i did the comm tower scenery.
@RedHarvest re prep on the stalls. i don't know to be honest I've seen some people say you don't need o prep and can just spray the MDF directly then others ay you need to shellac the MDF first.
Might just spray with GW chaos black and see what happens.
Your MDF will soak up first coat or two of paint, to avoid it you can give it a coat of PVA as a sealer. To be honest, letting it soak in and penetrate a bit with a couple thin layers will help maintain the detail. I have had great results from just washes, the only thing I really noted was it mutes the colours a bit.
Went to 2 different B&ms looking for that spray paint but couldn't find any :(
also found out that i don't have enough mesh for the fences so there is a slight delay in getting them done.

“Amongst the Spartan Enforcers there is one who stands above all others. He has almost singlehandedly ended five separate invasions of CoOperation space
His name is N7-117 but all know him as Master Chief.”
…………..Inquisitor Justice Sedante (Ordo Xenos)
The Chief Has arrived.
Annoyingly the edge highlights on his armour have vanished under the gloss coat to get the shiny i-pad armour look I'm aiming for with my Enforcers.
But overall I'm happy with Master chief so happy in fact he's getting shoehorned into a game this Sunday.
Got the urge to get the Tron Deadfall figure and paint her up as Cortana now……..
Thanks for the kind comments guys, really appreciate them.
@cam I'm going to have a look around Cardiff on my lunch break tomorrow see what I can find, ideally I don't want to be spending more than a fiver on the spray so I can keep costs down, but if all else fails I'll go to halfords
Well they look fantastic hope they sell well.Great job. Just have to keep an eye out on the sprays bud, will come along. The great thing about your fencing is it looks in relatively good nick, for a change, so many of us instantly weather and rust everything up, your looks great with out the nonsense.
Ta Cam, there is some rust on there (was too tempting to go heavy on the weathering) but i wanted to be able to use them for infinity too so 40k/inquisimunda level weathering would be a bit jaring.
Ive also started a “showcase” thread for my fluff and finished minis here
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/698675.page#8820810 Hobby Budget Hobby budget of max £100 per month but ideally less than £50, As an incentive to spend as little as possible I'm going to put anything under £50 I spend into a piggy bank and save up for a Warhound Titan.
July Overview
July's hobby spend was £58.70 ( 41.70 from eBay and paid for by stuff id sold)
Here's the haul, not included is my Kickstarter purchase of £17 to Antenocities workshop for some decals.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Milano will get a repaint in the original colours but hopefully a better paint job.
In the baggy are some anvil industry dogs.
£12.15 towards that Titan (this might take a while.....). ended up being £15 In the Titan bank as I couldn't be bothered with sorting the change.
Finished paint jobs in July
Here they are
Now up to 73 minis painted in the year, 21 more than in the total of 2015. And 21 away from hitting the total for 2014 and 15 combined.
Painting Project updates
AVP painting progress
Hoping to get the predators done this month, trying to work out in my head how to do the mottled skin on them without ruining their fishnets.
Warhammer 40k painting progress
The Eldar must be finished this month! I just get bored of painting blue quickly, I'm thinking of doing each of them as a separate "character" and hoping that will keep me better on track.
Deadzone painting progress
Think I'm going to redo the forge fathers, their too similar to my Dreamforge Eisenkern at the moment.
Not Progressed past undercoating on the veer-myn or other enforcers yet.
Infinity painting progress
Don't know why these guys intimidate me so much. I'm going to get the Father knight and the other 2 Morat vanguard done this month.
Return to Colony 87 painting progress
2 down 4 to go, they are honestly a joy to paint. I'm hoping to have the set finished by the end of the month.
Random Painting in progress
the rest that don't fit in another Catagory
Thanks for looking
Please drop a comment if you like what you see or have any feedback, I really appreciate it and it helps keep be motivated.
Going against what i had planned, i finished my Icestorm Father knight.
Really enjoyed painting him actually and has inspired me for finish off my other ice storm PanO and redo my fusiliers (still happy with how my Orc turned out)
Decided to go with a classic knight look for him rather than the blue panO armour ill carry that on with my other military orders.
He was really difficult to get a decent pic of tho and even these don't show the silver highlights as well they are in real life.
Wow. You've been busy. The Colony 87 stuff is looking really good. I'd glanced at it when the KS was running, but at the time, it just wasn't doing much for me. Seeing your painted examples makes me wish I hadn't skipped it. Speaking of wishing I hadn't skipped things, your Hund looks really damn good. Now I'm wishing I'd bought him.
PanO force from operation ice storm finished
(well finished until i get my PanO decals)
Pictures of the Father Knight are in the previous post.
But heres better pics of my Orc
Nothing new on him just better pics than earlier in the thread.
My re-done Fusiliers
Really happy with the work on the first guys face and the white bits help make them pop a bit more.
Nisses Sniper
Not used the head fin because i don't like them just filled in the hole with green stuff.
Paratrooper
Converted him a bit by swapping his knife so i can call him a British Paratrooper instead of what he actually is . Again not used the head fin because i don't like them.
The yellow bit on the backpack is supposed to be a caution sign.
Group Shot
Very happy Ive managed to finish them off, even tho I've not managed to do what i had actually planned for this month.
Thanks for looking
Please drop a comment if you like what you see or have any feedback, I really appreciate it and it helps keep be motivated.
That is a nice set of models there. I like the blue-grey color. What is your mix? The Union Jacks are transfers, I hope-- no human hand could paint those so well...
They look good. I like the way you did the Father-Knight. He actually looks like, well, a knight And I'm thinking I might try something like that for mine.
Since you did request feedback... please go back and re-do the eyes on the female fusilier. You did a fine job on the 2 male fusiliers. Bring the female up to the same quality as the 2 males. Use magnification if you have to. (It's allowed, really. )

Thanks Josh
Union jacks are definitely decals, a custom set from the fallout hobbies kickstarter.
the blue is
AP gray primer
one coat of GW Calgar Blue
all washed with AP Dark tone
Non recessed areas painted with calgar blue again
then highlights with a mix of 1 part AP white and 2 parts Calgar blue again.
Paradigm wrote:Cracking stuff! Nice and consistent, and I like the Father Knight in silver, definitely brings out the knightly aspect!
Thanks Para
"Good" knights should always be in shiney armour (knights that think their good anyway)
Camkierhi wrote:Really nice looking set. Great colours, really nice feel to them. Good job sir.
Thanks Cam

Thanks Shas
Is that the Nick frost series? if so is it any good?

Really appreciate the feedback, she is a bit google eyed isn't she and it really comes up in pics, ill correct that this week
not thought about getting a magnifier before might be worth a look, I've gotten lucky recently but eyes are a bit hit and miss for me.
evildrcheese wrote:Infinity stuff is looking awesome. I really like the sword dude, he's one badass mofo.
Looking forward to seeing the progress on the DW. I admit true scaling looks super cool, but I wouldn't have the patience to do it.
EDC
Thanks Evildrcheese
i love the father knights pose.
true scaling is a mega pain and you've got to be a bit mental to do it. i wish i wasn't so OCD about scale that it didn't matter, but it is rewarding when you see the final marine next to a guardsman or something from another range (its also like pringles once you pop you can't stop)
£47 Spent but all but the Micron pen paid for by funds earned by selling stuff on eBay.
So £25 goes into the Warhound bank
£40 saved so far (11.42% there)
August finished bits
Nothing that I had planned to do aside from The terrain Piece. But I'm really happy to have finished my Icestorm PanO.
MDF stairs
In the above hobby haul i picked up these MDF kits.
I really like them but they are designed to be built for Necromunda style scenery so theres no top shelf (to allow you to slide the cardboard/MDF floors in)
As a solution I made a step using some spare stairs and MDF “sprue”
Much better
And here it is painted and ready for a game of deadzone this evening.
Blainetober Found my Blaines for “Blaintober”
Thought i had a Blaine from deadzone too but i don't will try to pick one up on eBay before October
That staircase is pretty neat. Is it size-compatible with Battlezones? Also, I'm jealous of your Blaine On Dinosaur. I was one of the backers who didn't get one because they ran out or whatever.
Lady is looking better, stairs are awesome, going to have to take the plunge on these things. That lump of terrain in that last pic looks brilliant. If it is only 5mm, that is nothing, but if you are worried, small base pads would make up the difference.
@Josh the levels art a perfect fit (about 5mm too short but they fit in well.
is that a never ever on you getting the dino blaine or just a delay like they had with some of the dungeon saga stuff?
Wow, that's a nifty DZ setup. Maybe one day I'll get around to building something like that.
From what I've heard, Mantic was unable to produce enough of those Blaine on Dinosaur models for everyone, so they just gave up. I was one of the unlucky ones who didn't make the cut.
Those Mars Attacks! models look pretty good, especially given how tiny they are and the lack of details. I have no doubt that they look great at tabletop distance.
Hoping to have my other blaine’s finished shortly. well hoping to actually get some decent time painting and lobbying but finishing the blaine is top priority.
That's a nice entry for Blainevember. Is that the DZX version? I don't have that one, or at least I couldn't find it before I ran out of enthusiasm for the project.

Cheers dude
It's the original dreadball one, should have the mars attacks and jetbike Blaines finished by Wednesday, I'll leave the fantasy ones for the next Blainetober
There was a Blaine in DB1? I didn't back that KS, so I haven't a clue about the exclusives. I look forward to seeing your Blaine on Jetbike so I can steal your paint scheme. Mine has been sitting on my painting station, assembled and primered but unpainted, for about a month.

Theres always a Blaine
hope you like the bike
Mars Attacks Blaine
Probably one of the best detailed minis to come out of the mars Attacks kickstarter.
happy with how he came out.
Deadzone Jetbike Blaine
This mini benefits from the new PVC used in the last kickstarter.
and he’s pretty bloody nice, nice detail, cool bike and and awesome coat
put a bit of weathering on it as Blaine docent strike me as the type of person to keep his kit in pristine condition (just look at his coat)
Very, very happy with how this came out. been quite subtle (for me at any rate) with the highlights and resisted the urge to make the bike goo busy with freehand.
Very nice indeed. The red spot colors on the MA Blaine really appeal to me, as does the racing stripe on the jetbike. I'll have to work mine back into the painting queue now.
