My Lords.
I write this in haste as important information has come to light regarding the operational status and security of our ongoing investigation, [Ref: Nox Astra] even now my ship has broken orbit and is heading at full burn towards the nearest jump point to effect translation to the immaterium with all possible speed.
The Gathalamor lead yielded fruit, Jospin’s information was accurate as always and lead to the capture of Primary target in the merchant district of Hive Raphallon and the extermination of three (III) Secondary targets for no cost to the kill team. Subsequent forced interrogation and psy-probing eventually revealed the location of their safe house on Gathalamor but at the cost of primary target expiring due to psy-feedback cerebral trauma. Primaris Myna will be out of commission for at least three weeks in the apothecarion from stress-induced stigmata and 2nd degree frostbite to the fingers from psy-frost accumulation during the interrogation.
Cleansing the safe house in the tertiary spine docks cost us Interrogator Pexerson, Vordan Lausa and Specialist Vorhees. Kill team Cerberus suffered 83.8% losses in the assault, Kill team Taurus 38.3%.
Those bastards had some kind of beam projector that cut the initial assault to ribbons with what looked like black las, I saw Lausa being cut in two as if by a giant las-scalpel. Went through carapace and refractor field as if they weren’t there, completely severing him below his ribcage. We would have suffered even more severe casualties if the infernal thing hadn’t overloaded, gak-thing took out a three-level high chunk out of the building corner and reduced a good number of defending targets to ash and dust. In the aftermath Magos Decima identified it as a proton thruster cannon (91.761% accuracy), a rare weapon system in the exclusive use of the Mechanicum Legio Reductor. Throne knows how they got their hands on such a thing. This may reach further than we feared.
We have reason to believe that primary agent “Auspice-1” has somehow been compromised by an unknown third party within or somehow associated with the Ordos Segmentum Solar; in one of the cogitator systems we discovered intercepted astropathic communications bearing the ident-codes and sign-markers of the holy ordos. The data was severely afflicted by data-corruption due to imperfect interception and a forced decryption process but what fragments could be salvaged shows a pict-surveilance of agent “Auspice-1” and his personal retinue on Ulani fourteen months back. Even more troubling is that from the fragmented vox-recording attached to the file an unidentified party is referring to actual identities of operatives in the retinue and at one point references target Primus [+REDACTED+].
I am taking ship to Necromunda with the original data at once, Interrogator Phalon and kill team Pegasus is remaining on-site to further investigate the situation and liaise with Inquisitor Schongard who is arriving to the scene as I break orbit. Initial review of the gathered intelligence seems to indicate a target vector rimwards towards the Paethon sector, but without the resources of our Necromundan facilities it is not possible to make a detailed enough analysis to extrapolate further.
A full report of the Gathalamor incident will be compiled and transmitted by Phalon once she and Schongard get things under wraps on the ground. I suspect this will take some time, the local Minostrum provosts have worked themselves into a small indignant frenzy and the Minostrum High Pointiff seemed to be three heartbeats away from a quite severe stroke when I left him.
My navigator cadre is estimating our arrival in 57 days sidereal.
Your loyal servant.
Simeon Micodjian, Inquisitor Ordos Necromunda, Ordo Malleus.

…
Let us begin.
This is not my fault, not the slightest. I lay the blame for this at the feet of three major conspirators. It is their entire fault.
All of it.
John Blanche for your monthly miniature exhibits in white dwarf, past and present. Your works inspire the mad artisan that lives somewhere deep in my cerebral cortex and that crackle with glee at the beautiful madness of your art. You make me want to be better.
Migsula, you really had to re-launch your trilogy with The Red Storme Riseth did you? Do you realize what something like that does to a delirious artisan mind drunk and high on the sweet sweet narcotic ambrosia that is the writing of Dan Abnett?
DO YOU!!?
I am stealing parts of your format,.. You’ll just have to live with that.
Dan Abnett.
I hate and detest you for what your literary works make me do. I was not there, I had left the grimdark madness of the 41st millennium behind and dived headlong into the first fratricidal engagements on the fire blasted surface of Istvaan III and the dawning Heresy. It was the 31st millennium and everything had to go, no bets barred.
Then I bought Pariah.
I read it cover to cover and came out with a head brimming with ideas, then I read it again. This time augmented with some fine rum and a small notebook.
Yesterday I rounded up every random piece I had ever produced from random inspiration that did not belong in any of my armies and set them up on a table. Somewhere conceived and painted, fully or partially; years ago. Others where simply base coated or lacking even that; unfinished and lacking parts. I brought my notebook, sketchpad, bit box and tools. There was also weapons-grade coffee.
Things Happened.
Then more things happened…
15 Months passed.
Inspiration returned with a vengeance.

What I really like is you've managed to make him not look like a marine. The pose is cool and he looks mysterious....what inside the hood? Looking forward to seeing more. The only thing I'm not sure about is the angle of the bolt pistol.

Love the story, and the hate filled love letter
The first =][= looks great, a very menacing walking pose, the pistol is at a slightly odd angle, I think it should be a bit straighter.

Thanks guys! I am really happy you liked it.
Yeah, I kind of forgot about the boltpistol. It has been fixed now.
I also clobbered together a small gunslinger, he is a bit short, wich is nice. I am also making an assassin but that one's not done yet, some parts are white metal and an absolute gak to work with.. anyway..
Some pictures for you.

Well, after reading that story I'm officially hooked.
The first inquisitor looks great and I love how he isn't walking through some random war-zone, just mysteriously walking through an Imperial city, the lamp-post is one beautiful touch.
Is that IG the first of his posse?

*loves the love, I am such a slut...*
Yes! I think he will be the Inquisitor's pilot, a former Marauder pilot he picked up from the Panthine XI air regiment, the campaign will be set very close to the fringe of the Sabbath worlds during the midst of the Sabbath worlds crusade so there will be interesting crossovers into the Abnett-verse.
We are going to run this thing as a campaign this spring, another guy DM's and I model and paint the warbands. It will be awsome I hope.

Work progresses and not just modelling! In a day or two we will have our first painted model to show off.
@Alpharius : Oh, you just wait.. I have a treat up my sleeve for you. (love the pic btw. )
@Reanimator : Sure, the base is the robed legs + torso and hood from the Dark Angels veterans box, the metal arm is from an inquisitor model, the throne of judgment guy, the right arm is from a chaos marauder horseman and the big shoulderpad from a chaos knight. The scabbarded sword is from the chaos warriors box and the boltpistol is from the baneblade commander kit.
So, I cannibalised an old metal figure I painted in the early 2000's for this one, he gets a nice coat of primer tomorrow. Enjoy.

Thanks guys, the inquisitor is soon finished too.
I try to make the bases to reflect it taking place inside an imperial city or Hive or something, evoking a mini-diorama feel to it.
@TheDraconicLord: You take the IG Engineseer and hack off it's left arm at the shoulder and the right one at the elbow.
Then you GS up the face into a visor-plate. The left arm is a bionic one from a servitor, the right forearm and stave comes from the skaven model Ikkit Claw. The stave top comes from the Empire wizards kit.
Then you cut off the light-thingy on the backpack and add a second servoarm, I used one from the SM missile launcher backpack.

Thanks guys, the comments are highly appreciated.
I will try to snap more wip and pip photos in the future.
Currently I am about 50% done with the Inquisitor in robes and at about the same amount of progress on an old daemonhunter- inquisitor that I never finished painting, but have picked up again.
The Magos was really fun to paint since the colourscales was slightly out of my wheelhouse so to speak, they came out a tad flat in the photos, not as deep and rich (especially the bronze) as they are in normal light.
I have a friend who is a professional photo-artist and illustrator, once this all is done and the accompanying terrain has been built and painted (yes, we are eyeing the new FW city and industrial tiles quite heavily) I'll have to bribe her with some beer and rum and have her snap some better pics in her studio. But it's a while until then.
And yes, Migsula & Alpharius,. there is both insanity and Legion lurking behind a corner.. You both would love to see what is hiding out on my paintingstation.
Alas, not yet. Not just yet.

My fav bit (apart from the striking limited palette) os the depth of the cowl, did you cut the face out? Or just paint it black?

Very nice indeed. The basing has some especially nice rust effects. And the subtle tones on the inquisitor himself make the whole thing very believable. Excellent work all round.

^What Logan said! That guy looks feeeeirce man! Great stuff
34339
Post by: STC_LogisEngine
Cheers guys.
Since you had multiple questions of the cowl : the face has been cut away and the cowl hollowed out a bit so that light will not strike the black inner surfaces in 'normal' circumstances and thus give the sense of depth.
I am really satisfied with using a limited palette for this guy, the magos is quite colourful and so is the puritan inquisitor I am working on atm, lots of red and gold. Nice to have something that breaks with the others and also it's fun to paint somthing in a new way, test your limits a bit and all that.
Currently I am alternating my attentions between an inquisitor, the vindicare assassin and the.. 'speshul-project' currently under the title "ze Alpharius (Mod) -shocker". The gunslinger henchman is primed and will get a lick of paint once I can decide on the palette, I am for some insane reason contemplating to give him an orange jumpsuit at the moment but we'll see.
On the modelling side we have a second magos who is soon finished and a.. *dun-dun-duuuuun!* Eversor assassin who needs a base cranked out before he meets the primer.
Stay tuned for more madness.

I wish I could but I have zero knowledge of the whole casting-thing.
Anyway I will use this one as a stand-in for the heavy psycannon, the Volkite runs at S7 Ap4 and while they usually have better range than 24" it trades multiple shots and possible extra hits for large blast and rending... sooo
yeah, almost the same.

Everything is fantastic, as is all of your stuff STC. I really like the way you've done the Inquisitor a lot. Most people who do radical Inquisitors end up making them look too over the top heretical to the point that they look more like agents of Chaos than radical Inquisitors, but you've done an excellent job balancing the ornate look of a puritan with the sinister grimness of a radical.

Ok CC, I'll paint a litte more before I call weekend and wander off into a drunken haze.
I put this thing together from some leftover house-parts and a little plasticard, primed and painted it today. Took about 3 hours, not including priming and the time it needed to set.
I'd thought I'd use it as a backdrop for photos, you guys deserve something better than just a shelf and a bit of wall don't you think?
Quite a rough paintjob but it got the work done, I'll come back to it later and touch up details, weather it a bit more with something else than just rust and see if I can get some crates and perhaps a rat or two stuck along the walls.
Posters.. it needs a few nice propaganda-leaflets and some purityseals.. as I said.. I'll get back to it later.

As people have pointed out this is, after all, the P&M section, not showcase so I will try to supply more wip/pip- pics.
In the spirit of that, here's some pics! Shocking, I know.
The Glaive arm of mr. big-and-nasty is almost done, frequent peepers of my work will recognise the deep indigo to emerald highlights on the armourpanel. As usual it's all brushwork and while fun, making that kind of fade without an airbrush is really tricky and takes quite some time.
If you listen really closely, I am sure you will hear the delighted squeals of Alpharius (mod) eco through the interwebs.
On the assassin-front the Vindicare have a finished black paintjob and is awaiting the rest, leather, metallics etc. and is comming along quite nicely.
Realising I needed a few more mechanicum models I reworked an old conversion that wasn't working into this lill' thing. I am concidering to give him a different weapon, maybe a gravpistol, instead of the las.. we'll see.
77159

Damn, that glaive and arm is looking nice. And familiar... They really do get everywhere.
Other stuff looks cool too.
18474
Post by: Darth Bob
New stuff looks great. Though somethings looks off about the Vindicare. I don't know if it's the blending of Imperial and Eldar parts that's messing with my perception of the model but he just looks strangely proportioned for some reason. I'll hold further judgement until the model's fully painted, though.

Heh, it's a mashup of a wraithknight's blade, the arm-stabiliser and stuff from a dreadknight and a dreadnought legplate.
It will be attached to this one, you cant have missed him now can you?

How do you do that paintjob on the blade, STC? It's beautifully done and it doesn't look like it's airbrushed. Was it all wet blended? Any chance of a tutorial in the future?
34339
Post by: STC_LogisEngine
It's layered, I never got the hang of the whole wetblending thing, to messy for my style.
It's 6 layers on a black base with a final white highlight, but sure, I'll make a tutorial the next time I paint a powersword or something akin to it.

I think the only thing I'm not fond of is the color choice for the visor. The very bright blue of the armor makes the light blue-green of the visor kind of blend in with the rest of the model; specifically the helmet and face mask. I think if, maybe you changed the color of the visor or darkened the face mask to a neutral color like a black or gray, it would make the visor look less washed out with the rest of the model. Also, the strap on the lasgun could use a few touch-ups; there's a few splotches of brown on it.
Regardless, he looks good. I just think a few of the color choices are a tiny bit off.

Thank you, well. the strap is not painted yet, nor is the base. it's slightly PIP.

Post by: Darth Bob
Ah. Well. That would make sense, then.

I like the colour choice, but agree with Darth Bob, the visor currently gets lost in the helmet/facemask.

The pose is nice, and the freehand =I= looks great ! In 2 hours, that's pretty impressive...

Is that an Elysian masked head with a Cadian helmet on it? I don't think I've ever seen that head before.
As has been said, the visor need to be a different colour, red would be my recommendation, although an orange or yellow would be nice too. Just to introduce some warmth to the scheme,
Other than that stunning as always mate.

I love the color scheme. The greys and browns are great together with the turqoises. I agree that the visor does get a bit lost, but I think I like it nonetheless. It reminds me of real life visors which can be similar but not quite the same as their surrounding masks and helmets.

Post by: STC_LogisEngine
Thanks guys. I love some feedback on and then.
I am thinking orange might be the way to go with the visor to make it pop.
Sheep: It is, I bought a bunch of elysian respirator heads a few years back but they don't fit well with the cadian plastic. Cutting the respirator into the cadian helmet works very well but but is quite fiddly. Also, I have not either seen anyone do that yet so thus it is mine, all mine.

I think the visor looks fine, but there is a lot of 'bright' in the picture, and I think it might have washed it out a little.
Orange might be cool, or a yellow/amber sort of coloring, if you do end up adjusting it.

Very nice! Although the characteristic shape of the "bunny ears" might work better without the second chaos ornament, leading to a slightly less cluttered silhouette.

I quite like it with the standard and the bunny ears, but I would be inclined to listen to KrautScientist - the dude sure knows how to make a World Eater.
I also like the pale blue armour on your guardsman, really nice colour.

Knowing STC's level of quality, I think it'll be fine.
The trick will be color I think. Right now since it's all grey and WIP it sort of blends together.

My Lords.
As per your request, received on 017.769.M41 by the Tetragons astropathic choir, I have compiled the few data-relics my team of forensic Infocytes and Data-Archeologists has been able to recover on the Legio Ophidium Adeptus Astartes from the Tetragons sequestered data-stacks in the deep archives. Much is, I am said to say, heavily corroded, redacted with inviolable authority-prefixes or rendered in archaic prose as to render the accounts near unintelligible with ambiguity.
We hope that what little hard data we were able to recover within the limited timeframe made available to us will be of use to the Ordos Necromunda, the report, however, lies within the seal of Lord inquisitor Zukhoff and as such must be ratified by his office before it can be released for further dissemination within the Ordos.

Amazing blue/green there! I think a cream would work well enough, as would a deep red.

I second cream robes, they would contrast well with the armor. How does he go for scale vs a marine or a guardsmen?
30344
Post by: monkeytroll
Love the Unseen Observer Lovely build and a great colour scheme to complement it, plus an interesting base. Good job!
Acolyte looks good so far. I don't see cream cloth being an issue - squiggles and an extra wash or two on the purity seals should be enough to differentiate them.
For something a bit different though you could maybe try a very rich, dark purple.

Wow there's a lot more in this log then there is over on Ammobunker.
I'm a fan of what you have going on here. Your models are great, and the bases are superb.
I like the walker you have and I can't wait to see it finished.

What about a darker purple for the cloth? He is looking good so far.

Post by: STC_LogisEngine
Thanks guys!
@Archer: The legs and torso are from the BA Death Company kit, so he is about the size of a "regular" marine, so.. just a few mm's taller than a guardsman, using scout arms and head brings down the bulk a bit.
@Fireangel: Yeah, I'll try to keep the thread in the ammobunker more on point, the stuff here on Dakka is more of a "stream of thought"-thing, thus all the dead ends, stop-starts and remodeling.
I'll look into the purple idea. Might pan out.

Easy makes the the sauce, no saucy spoilers... yet.
First you throw some paint (would be easier if I remembered that I was out of yellow and didn't have to improvise with ochre) on the undercarrige...
Then on the hood and plop it down. Finished! (more or less...)

Wow, great idea. That idea will be stolen.
I have to say though, your background is very distracting. I think I spent as much time looking at the images under the base then the base itself.

Post by: Archer
Looking very nice. Really great idea on those bases to be multi part. Got to obviously now match the same level as awesome on the base as the base itself is.
34339
Post by: STC_LogisEngine
Hehe, well it's not that hard, just cut it up, build up some kind of floor
with styrene sheet and full the void with stuff.
As for matching a model with the base... Well, let's just say that I feel
confident that I have outdone myself and kicked things up a notch with
this project.
I have finished the large surfaces on the model in question and well..
I did have a small "wow - I really pulled it off" - moment.. I don't have those very often.
