As above title suggests since there have been quite a few posts mentioning these guys.
What's your fav item/s from FW and why?
Mine has got to be the thunderhawk with the land raider along with the Contemptor dreads. Thunderhawk because it's 400 pounds of sheer awesomeness and the Contemptor because it just looks 1000 times better than dish washers with guns.
Look forward to hearing your answers

1. Warhound Titan. Used some inheritance to get it and then got it commission built and painted. It's on a shelf above me and every time I look up at it I smile and feel a warm glow. Best self present ever, despite the earbending the missus gave me.
2. Avenger Strike Fighter. Wanted it for ages, been hinting to the wife each birthday and Christmas without success, so went ahead and bought it for myself. It's massive, looks amazing, and kicks ass on the tabletop.

The Marauder Bomber. I don't own it, (I've come close to purchasing it on two separate occasions) but every time I see it on FW's site I start doing mental gymnastics trying to justify buying that model. I absolutely love the aesthetic and hope at some point I'll own a B-17 in Spaaaaace! but for now it remains in my perpetual shopping cart.
My problem is when I start breaking down the negatives around the model it becomes harder to get excited about owning it.
All I can think about is that the Marauder is a giant, super-heavy flyer which is difficult to model, even more difficult to transport and store, requires customization to mount on a flight stand, and likely wouldn't see much of any table time--all for the bargain price of $300! Nope, maybe I won't ever get one.
It is so pretty though...

In terms of cool factor?
Death Korps Grenadiers. Obviously. Nothing else has the same sort of Grimdark that looks like something that could exist in real life and be real real terrifying. Second would be the Eldar Vampire (as long as you don't have to assemble it) and the DKoK Quartermaster.
In terms of usefulness on the table? Rapier Laser Destroyers. They put out a lot of hate.

For me it has to be the Forgeworld Eldar Avatar.
Pricewise it isnt like one of the huge models FW offers, so nothing unobtainable for the common man.
Lookswise, it is miles and miles ahead of the official GW Avatar who is way too short and has a ridiculous pose.
Still bothers me why GW didnt adopt this as their official Finecast model during the 2013 Eldar release and how that godawful 10 year old metal Avatar model made it into finecast instead.
To me, the FW Avatar (especially the one holding the sword with a challenging pose basically telling the entire opposing army to "bring it on") is an awesome and affordable sculpt that should be the centrepiece of every Eldar army.

what you want them to discount so that the recasters become worse value? that aint gonna happen,
and the recasters to aus pricing is 50% less than FW. and i am happy as a pig in mud with my real models.

Sigh. Not this nonsense again. Recasters can sell at much cheaper prices because they don't have to pay the sculptors, pay to write the rules, pay wages above starvation level, etc. Ripping off someone else's work is always going to be cheaper than having to make your own products. Complaining about how expensive the real thing is compared to a recast makes about as much sense as complaining about how expensive movies are when you can just pirate them for free.

you do know that forgeworld is more expensive than finecast, right? you're trying too hard to to avert attention from the additional brand name fee on top of gw's brand name already. which is why forgeworld pricing cannot be defended by any of the points you made except "it is their right to set it to whatever rate they want to"

you are aware that ForgeWorld use a different resin, make a better product than the base GW resin rubbish, etc etc.
Gw's brand name is the run of the mill models, FW are the apex, they are the luxury stuff, do you see ferrari selling a car cheaper because GM do?
edit: and you were comparing FW to recasters... not even base GW. the recasters as you quoted dont do ANYTHING that has actual costs, hell their labour is in the region of 10$ a week. where the poms are paying 10-20 POUNDS an hour...

Actually, minimum wage in Shanghai (where the recasters have their factories) is about $300 per month. Typically, factory workers earn about 25% above that, or more if the particular product requires additional training. Labour is cheap in China, but not ridiculously cheap.

This is such a hard question. I mean, really, why would you ask this?
Who hasn't spent hours trawling FW's model photos looking at some of their fantastic works?
I can't choose one, I could never choose one. I guess you'll get a list from me.
These badasses have to rank somewhere.
So do these guys.
But that's just space marines.
We have the R'varna, which has already been pictured, the Leman Russ Vanquisher, which is the closest GW will ever come to a real tank...

There are elysians... DKoK are all fantastic.

For me it's the Land Raider Proteus.
I got into 40k because of Space Marine/Adeptus Titanticus in '89-90 when I was 13, and my favorite model was the Land Raider with the giant treads that rose above the main compartment of the tank. The Proteus has the same lines.
Also the ability to say "Sorry, my tank is melta proof." is awesome.

Everything Mechanicus. I love the fluff on the Horus Heresy books, but the prospect of playing nothing but sizzlin' hot Marine-on-Marine action left me kind of... cold. That is, until the Horus Heresy Mechanicus line was revealed.
Now that 30k seems to be establishing itself as the game of choice amongst grizzled, embittered GW veterans who don't want to severe all ties with the universe that brought them into wargaming, I might really consider stepping in.
