Knightley, your GKs just get better and better. The faces are obviously outstanding and I'm still loving your pail grey color scheme. Do you ever run out of ideas for the icons you draw with the micron pens?
@a_h_d - Thanks, I guess my next question is how long have you been painting for? I've had a brush in hand for a long time, but really only gained skills this year. The mark on the guys robe is writing on the other side, nice try however keep an eye out there might be one coming up, there might not. You never know.
@LDP - Cheers! Yeah I'm going in on Saturday, not sure what time though, models have to be in by 2:30 right?
@Miss Dee - Can't say I know what a gibbs slap is. I understand one of those words, so I'm sure he should decline ;D
@Graven - Agreed and a nice chance to add some different colours and techniques (OSL, Weathering) to a different style of model will be cool as well.
@Tipios - Course, if anyone supplies me with another army idea I could try my hand at that instead (idea's welcome)
@Moltar - Thanks mate! I usually have 3-4 ideas when it comes to micron squiggle, I have a diamond with writing surrounding it, a black sword (there are 2 different types of sword to draw) a T looking icon with another tail and the squad marking. so those combined with random scripture squiggles should leave me with plenty of options and hopefully spread it all around
Update: last guy in the half done. I tired mixing yellow in with burnished gold and doing the demon hair with that to see what would happen, its OK, probably wouldn't do it again. I think I may have to tidy up the highlighting on the robes on this guys.
Pretty fantastic looking group of marines there my friend. You should be proud. However you do your squiggles and markings they really work and add significantly to the feel of your figures.
@Gits - Thanks Gits! I am proud and will be chuffed to bits once 90% of the army is done, at this rate that could be may next year god willing
Update: Another try at a Quick and Dirty face tutorial.
First Stage, base face with Tallarn Flesh and give the face a good bath of Ogryn Flesh wash. The aim here is to have the wash pool in the sunken sections
Second Stage: this is just a strait dwarf flesh layer (plenty of water) focusing on leaving recess with the Ogryn wash showing, areas such as around the eyes, around the forehead area, bits beside the mouth and little bits on the nose.
Third Stage: this is a 50/50 mix of Dwarf Flesh and Elf Flesh, this stage is aimed at raising the lightness of areas where the sun would hit, so cheek bones, top of the head, bridge of the nose, eye brow region , lips, chin, the aim here is to have the first layer not totally covered up by the new mix.
Fourth Stage: This stage is just pure elf flesh, The aim here is to paint raised edges where the sun would hit it the most. This includes areas such as top of the head, bridge of the nose, eye brows and cheeks.
Fifth Stage: Eyes were done at this point, using a 000 brush I did the white of the eyes. Then with the same 000 brush for the pupil of the eye.
Hopefully this is a bit easier to see with the cropped pic's
Well once many years ago I 'painted' but that now looks like ive just dipped models in chaos black, thickened chaos black....
But now, been messing around for maybe a month and a half now first with silver (EVIL!!!!!) and now with grays (theft I know, but its so much more fun )
And I shall keep my (inferior and mostly blind) eyes open haha
@Gits - Your most welcome, any words on how to paint a dark skinned face?
@Tipios - No worries, are you going to throw some skinned faces on your dreads now? Hopefully you will and I can see if the guide works
@a_h_d - Have no fear I also 'Dipped" my models when I first started out, I honestly think I painted with a house brush at one point in time. If you're ok with feed back I'm more than happy to post comments/encouragements on your blog (it certainly helped me pick up my levels)
Update, working on the Biker body at the moment:
First coat of grey, you can see on the clear should pad that some of the grey is quite see through, it gets covered up in the next coat (you can also see it on his knee pads
Second coat of grey, here you can see almost 100% of the see through grey has been covered and shows a nice smooth coverage (apart from one elbow joint, ill fix that)
In this one the grey got their highlight and the reds were added then edge highlighted then normally highlighted (chest eagle is a good place to look)
Also got back from the FLGSGW painting comp, entered 4 models all made it through to the next round (single model - Paladin Apoth, squad - Tac squad 2, MC - Dreadknight, vehicle - ven dread) there was a fantastic FW chaos dragon which was entered into the open category which blew my mind! saw LDP get through with two of his models as well! NZ representing, the nationals will be on next weekend, so that should be 'interesting' I think I'll be struggling to make the cut on some of the category's I entered.
Looking brilliant as ever. I take it those are deathwing legs??
Also, I'd love feedback. Howelse can one improve without external influences eh? lol. Only slight problem is lack of a decnt camera, but I'm wokring on fixing that atm.
Woo! Looking forward to regionals man! And btw I think you'll do just fine, your squad and paladin are fantastic (and all the other models for that matter )
I was just sitting here admiring the faces of your marines and now I'll have an excellent tutorial of how you do it! Thanks, and beautiful work as usual!
inmygravenimage wrote:
Criticisms: drill the exhausts maybe? And maybe some weathering around them and the tyres?
This! Just use normal drill bits and it should be easy to find one the right size. Be sure to make a pilot hole first if you do though, the bigger drill bits can be a bit hard to control when hand drilling.
tipios wrote:
Only real fault I see is the front edges didn't line up when glued, but looks like that is the moulds fault.
One thing I found helped when doing my bikes was filing the surfaces after they were assembled and glued. The filing will get rid of most of the mismatched edges and the filed bits actually work as a "filler" to smooth out the gaps.
@Graven - Gah the return of weathering! it's a serious pull I'm trying to avoid for this army, I really am. Will have to check out my local hardware store for a bunch of drill bits, all the ones I have are getting dull now (drilling metal barrels....)
@LDP - Cheers!
@Tipios - You could try the same ideas with a green face, the base, wash, first, 50/50, top ideal and see how it goes? And snap you got me on the lining up. while painting it I was kept thinking there is a huge edge on this part.... no one will notice surely.... damn.
@Eggroll - Oh wow, thanks for the comments Eggroll! I have to say I'm quite honored. I'll make note on the pilot hole first for when I get bigger drill bits. and I really should have filed the front when I was in build mode, shocking as I've been trying to get them all recently.
Update: work is progressing on the Adeptus mechanicus terminator.
All parts have been base coated and washed, metals included.
To see what I could get it to look like I finished the should pad first
I'm happy with how it came out. What say all of you?
Yep, I got some feedback from my LFGS GW who said some of the gold were a bit flat, he had suggested trying mithril silver as a highlight and after trying it on the paladin apothecary I was happy with the results. It's time consuming though, each letter and only the top part. I think I ended up having to take a break when I had finished one half then came back for the other. Stoked you like it btw

I'll have to try that. Really like the effect. Thank you Sir for showing the way forward!
@Graven - C-beamer incoming! parts list? the arm is a deathwing assault cannon trimmed down, the barrel is plastic tubing with guitar wire on 4 edges. A purity seal thingy to hide some of the cutting mistakes I made. the business end is from a tank mounted missile launcher trimmed down to only have the missile and the round end showing. The 4 nozzles are from tau flamers. mix in some eggs and a little bacon grease, and you end up with a c-beamer look a like.
@LDP - Ah, I didn't know you were waiting for this one? has anyone else got any specific models they are waiting for me to start?
@Gits - Pioneering new techniques/styles I wouldn't have thought it would be me
@Tipios - I will be keeping a closer eye on your dread thread (hahah, that rhymes)
From this
To this - however there is still the blue to finish off.
I am interesting in what kind of pattern I should do with the blue part of the barrel, I was considering doing either lightning from one end to the other, or shading it from dark at the top to light in the middle to dark at the bottom. and one got any ideas?
Something... different. Sorry, that's not terribly helpful, is it?! I guess I mean it should different from anything you've done for energies elsewhere. Does that make sense?
@Graven - It did actually help, you had mentioned energies which got me thinking about different methods of conducting energy. I was thinking more lighting till I spilled some water and wished I had a hoover thing to suck up the water (turns out a tissue was quicker) With the hoover thing in mind I though why not have the energy hoovered to a point, trialled some sketches on what it could look like and was pleased with the results (below hehe)
@Gits - Sounds like a plan, I'm just looking for some Capt'n Morgan transfers now, once I have that.... sorted.
@LDP - Ah all good, here I was hoping people were waiting for specific models to be painted (similiar to Stoned_astartes wanting to see the pred/razorback in more detail)
Update: as with Gravens help, more energies have been harnessed. The intent was to get the energy being sucked into a line to be fired out of the beamer.
Thanks, I'm quite happy with my CF, I feel that I'm constantly learning something new, maybe not revolutionary stuff but it makes me feel more confident for every miniature that I paint. I'm keeping it pretty basic for the time being and will try to take it up a notch as the first squad gets closer to completion.
But let us now focus on your stuff, I just have to say, Whoa! That power axe is truly magnificent! Those sparks almost look alive and the highlight on the handle is pretty sweet, especially the checked part! Great stuff!
@Count - Great to hear your learning with your CF's. Stoked you like the axe, it was another attempt at the lighting motif and it turned out ok
@LDP - Easy enough, base with Khemri Brown, devlan mud wash, then bring up the raised areas of the parchments with Kommando Khaki over a course of 3 layers, then edge highlight with bleached bone.
@Tipios - Tut's incomming!
@Daxx - Urgh, lets not get started on the legs... I my gs-fu let me down something cronic, I lack the understanding/skill/new greenstuff perhaps to have pulled it off properly. I'm still chugging along with them but they will detract from the rest of the model. It's actually quite a shame. I should be able to post pic's of them later.
Green axe tutorial below
Started with a Orkhide Shade green base coat and washed it black then waited for it to dry, once dry it got a coat of Dark Angels green. A very small amount of white was added to the Dark Angels green and large lines were painted out to somewhat simulate lightning flowing from the cog wheels
More white was added to the mix (still small increments) and a thinner line was painted leaving the darker fatter line still showing
Here I went to Goblin Green, again thin lines
When the lines become to small to paint down I started to focus the lighter paint at junctions where lines meet for this I used Scorpion Green I think
The aim now is to bring the paint at the junctions to a single point on the junction as very light green
When you add a white dot or mark to the junction areas the final result hopefully should look better than this
Wow, thanks allot. Now I need an axe I think I'm gona try this lightning effect on my pimped wizard staff. When it's done I will show you, also need to paint his face grey, using your technique. So when he's finished we will see how well I have followed your tuts
@Tipios - Happy to help, can't wait to see what you come up with!
Update: Techmarine Terminator done. Really quite gutted that his leg GS was so low quality, I've tried to mask it with paint... it didn't help that much.
Ah yes, that was one model I drew inspiration from!
Update: And now for something completely different Imperial Guard. The first thing I noticed.... how little there is to an IG man, compared to a Spacemarine who has two chest parts, legs, back pack, head, arms, shoulders and weapons not considering the other stuff like grenades etc you can add on. These guys seem so simple.
Great to see you attempting something other. Infuriating how clean your colours are even at this stage! Hope you're still planning on doing something xenos for yourself.
@Graven - Yeah I really needed the change, was getting burnt out with doing Grey all the time, hence why I did the Terminator Techmarine, just to change it up. I am still planning on changing up to a Xeno team next. I remembered I have about 12 Eldar Guardians in a box somewhere so I might try out some colour schemes on them before I commit to anything full time.
I also based coated/washed another paladin terminator
Once I get the command squad done I'll move on with him.
I'm a bit surprised the Terminator Techmarine didn't generate many responses. I guess he's not every one's cup of tea. oh well C'est la vie.
I don't believe that you have anything to be ashamed of concerning the GS work on the tech marine, it looks OK and the rest of the mini more than compensates for that! He's brutal btw, nice work!
@Tipios - Cheers, yes lots of faces to paint, however.... IG faces suck, they have helmets and cheek guards, so there isnt much I can really do (see below) you could also be right about the darker models, my partner used the camera for something and nothing quite looks the same :( either that or you are mad.
@Briancj - Thank you! and yeah I'm noticing that a lot as well, it seems to go through patches like every one goes outside instead of posting on Dakka
@Ogryn - Thanks
@Count - You're far to kind, although I guess the rest of the model draws attention away from the legs so it's much less noticeable.
Update: IG melta man done. the bases aren't done as my mate want's to do them. Something about feeling like he helped finish the model its fine with me. Overall he wanted a simple scheme nothing too over the top, I guess just a bit higher than table top quality.
@Count - I know what you mean, I pulled out my DA force earlier in the week and seriously considered slapping more paint on them.... decided not now, I have far to much other stuff to do first.
@Ogryn - Fingers crossed he likes it, I don't paint for money, I do it for the love of painting
Really nice updates, so crisp! Are you gona do more detail, like the radio dial on the back. I think you should have a go at some tau, they will come out really nice I think!
@Graven - haha, thanks man. I assume there is a bad pretty as well? It's looking more and more likely I will be delving into Eldar next. I've been playing DOW1 - Soulstorm doing the Eldar force and its pretty cool.
@Gits - I guess the pay off is that when they die you pick them up and weep that you killed such a lovely looking model?
Update: Last guy done. bit of a rush job but the cut off was today and I forgot about the top part to the banner and right royally screwed the pooch on it. still if my mate wants it fixed he knows where to find me.
Front:
Back
I've tried another light box configuration, let me know what you think
Beautiful, crisp work on the banner. I like my guard a little grittier in general, and that got me wondering whether you'd though of trying a more weathered look in a force? Could be interesting for eldar - pretty yet shattered remnants maybe. New lightbox configuration quite even but seems to up the red end slightly - bit pinkish brown. Still gorgeous figs mind you.
The Guard are looking good Knightley, crisp and clean as ever
Btw, i "took inspiration" from your conversion beamer when painting mine, hope you dont mind! It was reallly hard to do actually, you make it look easy..
@Graven - Cheers man, I felt I rushed the banner a bit, such a large surface with only a few things going on with it. If I was to do it again I would have changed a few things. Over all good practice for my Paladin Standard bearer Terminator. Hopefully I can play around with the camera settings again and see if I can sort it out.
@Ogryn - Thanks! Fingers crossed I don't get burned out on all this painting.
@Miss Dee - Ah yes, that seems to the defining feature of Mr. Shockface
@Tipios - Weathering... check, Eldar will have that and hopefully some OSL to boot. How much glowy stuff do Eldar actually have?
@Vit - Mate I'm honored you'd use one of my ideas. your model looks quite impressive and its a shame you were 17 day's late getting it in. Still be proud its a cool model!
Update: Paladin Terminator number 3 underway! I figured I'd do a stage shot with one coat of Codex grey then do another with the second coat, hopefully you can see the difference
one coat
Two coats
I'm getting slower and slower and playing more and more computer games it seems. This is not good, Deus Ex and Dow1 - Soulstorm seem to have a hold on me, perhaps I will get quicker once I've clocked them. I'll still try to post daily updates as much as I can.
Hah I hade a phase recently where the painting slowed and I just played Dark Crusade, you'll eventually make a balance of gaming-painting or something. The paladin looks great too
@LDP - True, fingers cross I can do a healthy mix, I still have flash backs to nights playing wow and how easy it was to sit infront of a computer screen and just move a mouse and hit a few keys.
@Arashi - Long time no see man! Thanks for popping in again, stoked your still around
Update: Paladin is still being chipped away at, almost finished all the body and the head, just need to do the swords and extreme highlights, should be finished this weekend games willing
This is some seriously sound painting dude, great job! Following this for sure and thanks for the tutorial on the axe a couple of pages ago, will have a go at that for my Baharroth
@LDP - Reading all these comments reminds me of a bit of text I read somewhere, not sure where I saw it or the specific wording, however it went kind of like this "There are some painters that look like they are putting paint sloppily in random places yet you won't see the over all view until the last flick of the brush" I wonder if I'm anything like that?
@Gits - The paladin head? A number of stages. Mould lines, White primer, Deneb Stone base, Devlan Mud wash, first coat of very thin Bleached Bone, repeat that last step about 3 more times, Highlight with Skull white on the edges.
@BC Scotti - Happy to help! let me know if you post your version of the Axe I'd be interested to see how you go
@Tipios - Cheers man, I wonder if doing OSL on some of the larger gems might be worth it? I have a model I'm going to try a bit of OSL on in the next week or so (gaming permitting) so stay tuned (co-incidentally, if anyone has a link to some good OSL tutorials I would be very grateful)
@BrianJC - Thanks Brian, I just couldn't stomach an army of silver men, Grey is much more up my alley
@Falco - Thank you!
@Jon Touchdown - Thanks for taking the time to check out the blog, hope you will stick around
@J.Coops - Cheers, I'm actually not sure where I start with the detail I think I made the choice when I started on this army I wanted it to be special, I believe that having those small details gives them all character.
@Farty Wiffmas - Thanks for the comment and thanks for checking out my blog
@Gits - Your more than welcome, if I can give half as much to the community as you have I'm well on my way to a saint hood
@Tipios - Mint! I'll be saving that tutorial for my first try.
@Graven - Thanks man, fingers crossed you get more sleep soon.
@Miss Dee - Not sure, I might see what I can do when I kitbash normal SM terminators and GK parts together.
@LDP - Thanks man, you hear back about how your models went on the weekends GD in Aussie yet? I'm hanging out hard to find out how it went.
Update: not a lot done, mainly base Greyed the purgitation squad then played some games (finished Dues Ex - Human Revolution and DOW 1 - Soulstorm with Eldar
Knightley, I have seen many amazing Grey Knight models, even ones from the Codex, but these are by far the best. I love your painting technique, and everything about your models.

That's what someone posted on a forum somewhere so I can't approve it's 'trueness' and it's annoying how it doesn't have 14s and under in it. Purgation squad looks cool, can't wait to see em done!
This is as close as I could get. I've been looking for days, and still cant find 14 and under results but i saw someones pictures of coverage and saw my dude in the top 10 and saw a lovely pic of your dread somewhere.
@LDP - Cheers for the Link, some ok pictures taken on the first link, saw both of my guys with pictures and compared to the others I'm stoked to have had two of them go over to Oz to compete (some really really nicely painted models there)
@Graven - Cheers boss, I'm thinking about hiding these guys behind a building and shooting at anything in range (if I read the rules for them right hehe)
@Ogryn - Thanks man.
Update: slow and steady, far to much game playing in the last two days, however I have done the following
First coat of grey on this guy
And based, base colors and washed 6 servo skulls
Hopefully will get lots of time to paint this weekend. hopefully
@Gits - Cheers Gits, I know there are some people who are only after the finished product and aren't that keen to see WIP's but I figure if I can add something to the community, be either nice completed models or guides on how I do something, then we all grow.
@Flying Pooo - Thanks man, just another random thing I threw in to break up the sea of grey
@Ogryn - some pretty awesome favorite things, which CSI is your favorite?
Update: 2 more guys with first level grey painted on them
This guys grey is quite see through, the second coat should sort it right out.
I can't wait to fully paint this guy, of the group hes definitely my favorite
@LDP - Cheers man! hoping they will fit with the rest of the army! The head? I found it on the Venerable Dreadnaught sprue, it's taken some filing/cutting to make it fit into a marine neck piece but it looks pretty awesome in my opinion.
@Ogryn - Thanks man, have you got a favorite model thus far in the blog? Also me making bases, I think I'll leave that up to the true professionals like Warmill
@Miss Dee - Close, its from the venerable dreadnaught sprue.
@Galorn - Fair call, if I could go back in time I would have gone for the cork looking like rock route and spruce it up a bit, maybe for the upcoming Eldar army eh?
@Godless-Mimicry - Thanks, I have an ambitious model planned for the last item for this army, stay tuned
Update: procrastinating tonight leads to brilliance I feel. When I finished this I realised that no picture could capture how awesome I think this is.
Oh and the last grey on the last two done.
Cheers for tuning in. Also, how cool is reaching page 25!
@FP - Thanks man, I've just got to remember exactly how I did it and re-create it. It may be a once of item, but we shall see.
@Gits - Thanks man!
@Ogryn - My first attempt at painting the new way, good choice, he's one of my favorites as well
@LDP - Haha, thanks however I wouldn't say it was a work of art, there are many others out there which I am completely in awe of *cough* eggroll *cough*
Update: more procrastination, not as much brilliance but at least I'd give you pictures of what I'm working on.
Cheers LDP, the pose is pretty cool, however I'm a bit scared...
Reading back through the history of this thread there has been many calls for me to try weathering and OSL. Well I've tried both on this guy. I'm scared because I think I may have ruined the model. I'll leave that up for every one to decide.
Face - Tried to include some raw looking flesh, not sure if I got it right.
Front
Left
Rear
Right
Top
OSL attempt - Again first try ever, stupid idea to go strait onto a live model instead of trying onto a test model first, bugger.
@FP - Cheers, I do feel I could have done it a bit better, perhaps with a smaller brush with more layers perhaps.
@Gits - Nervous, yes, that's another very fitting word! Having spent a week on painting the white I was extremely nervous in painting lots of small black bits then slapping metallic colors in the black, all that work when it would seem 1 or 2 layers of white then had I gone to town would have saved me so much work.
Yes I was nervous as I'm far to used to painting nice clean models, needless to say this was a foray into the unknown.
@Galorn - I see you've cottoned onto what I'm doing, this model will be winging its way over to the UK to take up a position in a friends army (co-incidentally he has a blog here on dakka as well) Thanks for the compliments.
Worry not, friend! The face may look a smiiiiidge dodgy at close range, but better then most of mine , but man, it's fine, even from an arms distance he'd look faboo, and besides, the rest of the model is flipping awesome! The OSL looks fantastic! P.S Did you get your models back from Australia yet?
no sir! It looks great Not ruined one bit! Although i will say, it appears youve noticed that OSL on a dark color is a bit trickier than on light colors At least i have that issue a little bit myself
I think it looks really good personally, i am sure once you have based it you will change your mind aswell. I find i dont like some models until they get based, kind of completes a model if you know what i mean lol. As for the rest of the thread.. great stuff all round
From your title I was expecting a lot worse. I remember trying weathering for the first time. The whole, 'now i've painted my lovely clean model which i'm really happy with, i'm gonna ruin it'! S#@t ya pants kinda thing!
I think you've done a really good job, the face looks great and the OSL is very good for first time. (I still haven't had the guts to try OSL )
With the weathering, I find it looks better imho to stick more to the edges of the armour and only do a few, very small spots on the flat areas.
As the recipient of this work of beauty, I have to slap you now. It's glorious, stop fretting, ya dag (yeah, you heard me, I can insult you in colloquial antipodian ) It's really impressive with your trademark attention to facial detailing. My only - only - niggle is I'm not 100% on the osl on the scrollwork on the left shoulder. But that's nitpicking, tbh. Great and gorgeous stuff!
Knightly I really like your weathering. The only thing that bugs me is his left shoulder pad, some of the splotches jumped out at me where as the rest looks fantastic. I think its the reddish brownish splotch that is throwing me off. Outside of that, I really love that model. Makes me want to go and weather all of my white death company models. Any ways, keep it up. The Mentors look awesome. It's probably refreshing to step away from the gray for a bit.
If I'm 100% honest, I think your painting style is more of a clean, factory fresh look, and I think you are extremely good at it. Trying new stuff is great, especially on things that don't have to match your armies, and with practice, you will likely be an ace at it in no time flat. Ruined, far from it, though I do think I like the clean look better.
PS, I hate painting on osl. Yours looks much better than mine did.
@LDP - Truth be told I think all of my models look a little 'funky' at close range arm's distance or 50cm he looks perfect , just about right for a table top game eh Also no word on when the models are back, when I spoke to Craig he was mentioning they are wrapping up with critiques etc before sending them back, hopefully this week.
@Bebopdrums2424 - Absolutely but in saying that I was having a hard time getting OSL on a light color as well I think it gets more lost on a darker background because you start with such a dark color to begin with, a dark blue on white would stick out more than a dark blue on black would. That kind of thing.
@CL - Thanks for taking the time to comment! The owner of the model uses D bases so I'll leave it up to him to complete the model, and he best do a kick ass job with it
@E_C - Trust me when I sat down to try weathering and OSL I thought I had screwed it, seems its not as bad as I made it out in my head, looks like its on track for my Eldar army to get a similar form of treatment! Also thanks heaps for the weathering advice, I will totally take that on board for future projects, it makes so much sens I'm not sure why I didn't think of it.
@Emperors Assassin - Thanks!
@Graven - Phew that's a load of my mind, I was worried it would insult the mother land to the point where you'd take it out on your Corgies (subtle insult in your own language eh?) Cheers for the heads up on the scrollwork but I'm a bit to worried to fix it up, perhaps you could give it a try
@Dantay - Cheers man, I'll see what I can do about a tut for you mate
@Ice - Wow, thanks heaps for the comments man! the weathering attempt had 3 different washes tried, black, mud and a random one I had on my desk (in hindsight it may have been a flesh wash) I suspect it's the latter which caused the blotch. I think next time I will mix up some washes instead of using them strait, and yes such a great relief to paint white instead of grey, its got me back into it now almost finished the first Purgation marine, stay tuned!
@WM - Cheers Whale, I agree with you, I've worked hard on getting the clean look down and having the option of weathering on a marine that A) isn't mine B) will live on the other side of the world allowed me to really try something new and adventurous. It hopefully can only get better from here.
Update: Been really focusing on nailing out the 5 purgation marines got all the grey sorted including highlight, all the reds have been done as well. Only the metals, parchments, robes and skin left, apologies no pictures at the moment camera has no batteries and for the life of me can't find any spares.
Glad I didn't come off as a jerk, it was meant to be pure constructive criticism. If you ever get the SM bug after your switch, I'd certainly be happy to get one of your guys, weathering and osl or not!
@Ogryn - Next model done and below the next none SM/Grey model.... Not sure at this point.
@WM - I guess I always look for the positive side within comments and your right it was all purely constructive for which I am grateful for. It's funny you mention getting one of my guys, I've been considering doing a GMS or something similar. Either I paint up marines in my colors and swap or I paint marines in the recipients colors and send them out, not sure which at the moment.
Question then, which would you prefer, one of my 'Gray Nights' or your own force/color scheme but painted by me?
Update: used the batteries from the TV remote and grabbed some shots.
Lol @ battery theft. I'd prefer one in your colors, or, if bored of that, one in pretty much anything BUT my army. I feel good about my army, no need to change that around
@Gits - Cheers Git's to be fair I got the idea for the fiddly lines from you. Admittedly I've used my own perspective on it but the idea came from you.
@Miss Dee - My suggestion would be to try it on one marine on his shin's and shoulders. If you don't like it then those areas should be easy to paint over.
@Ogryn - Thanks!
@Markillius - Thanks mate, good to have you back on the blogs.
Update: Marine 3 done
Front
Rear - I particularly like the mechanical legs on this guy, such a joy to paint.
I'm always blown away by your seamless integration of bits; this is unmistakeable as a gk despite the da and bt parts. Superb, as ever, paint wise, but your modelling skills shouldn't be overlooked either!
Sweeeet. I love how you manage to make that sword not look daft. Top notch. Also, I got a wee surprise in the post today - simply amazing - that mentor is even prettier in the flesh. Well, plastic. You know what I mean...
@Graven - Chur, did he arrive in good condition, I figured putting in the container should help with no breakages. I noticed that you also use some D-bases for your mentors and left that off in case. I expect to see a completed model soon yeah?
@F_P - Thank you very much!
Update: Tank time, and its a large one not sure how long this will take me but I have a feeling a long time.
@Ogryn - Cheers mate, Yep I sent the Mentor Legion guy I painted to him, he's very happy with him so I hear
@Jirc - Good to have you back man, what a game on Sunday eh? What a nail biter!
@Gits - Ah yes, the typical way I paint, all in pieces and hopefully it comes back together in the end
@LDP - Progress below my friend!
@Ice - I have a bad feeling it will be a plethora of little black lines every where, however since its a large object I might actually try and write something proper, or at least the first parts then when I get fed up with it, then it will go to squiggles.
Due to the Rugby game on and the subsequent hangover the following day I did bugger all. Feeling so seedy all I bothered to do was a door.
Nice marbling! After that game, you deserve a hangover... Oh, and the fig was beautiful. I shall get a pic up once I've painted its base (though it is made already as I got a little overexcited).
"All I could bother to do was a door."
Well friend, let me tell that door was CERTAINLY worth the wait! It's amazing! Superb, clean yet again! I wish I could keep my models as...I can't expl- uh...AWESOME as that!
Very nicely done dude! your door looks lovely and i'm digging the mentor marine with the weathering! maybe just a fraction too much but what you've done certainly is done right! but his face is my fave, looks fantastic, sorry for sounding out of the loop, but are you painting a GK force purgation marines? or mentor marines? or are you just having a blast making us feel bad about how good your mini's look? :-)
@Graven - Oh yes, such a nail biter, edge of your seat, heart racing. Then followed up with oceans of amber fluid to sate the excitement demon! Also can't wait to see your man done on a base
@Ogryn - I'm honored you feel I'd be good enough to paint any of your models, if you are that keen hit me up on a PM and we can see what can be done?
@LDP - Hahah when you quote it like that I guess it does sound a little odd. I'm happy you like the door
@Tipios - Welcome back! I was wondering where you had gotten to, your blog went awfully quiet I was hoping you hadn't left.
@Nerdfest - Cheers for the comments, I agree with you there was a lot of things I picked up from trying my hand at weathering and less = more. Regarding whats up with the jumping between factions/chapters I decided I would do something nice for Graven (seeing as he's one of the many keeping me motivated with this blog) the result was a Mentor Legion Champion/Chapter Master/Veteran Sergeant/Rank and file trooper/what ever Graven want's to use him as. It also gave me a much needed break from Grey
Update, the house was stifling hot last night so didn't get a lot of painting done, some grey on one side of the LR but nothing to write home about or take a picture of (unless you really want to see a small section of grey on a large tank) fingers crossed I get a good solid time at painting tonight.
Knightley man those are looking good! I can't wait to see more. I hope you got my PM on that method for the power sword. But for your followers here are the two resources I learned it from. Les's Awsomepaintjob and BuyPainted both on youtube.
@GD1 - Thanks for the PM and the Videos mate! Les is truly inspirational with his skills, so stoked hes finally got a Golden demon under his belt as well, I haven't heard of the other site before so will have to check that out when I get a chance.
@Ogryn - Thank you for your continued praise, it does help a lot.
@Gits - Thanks mate
@LDP - Hahah, I might have to throw in another weathered guy just to mess with you then
@AndyMcmahon - Thank you for taking the time to comment
Update: BF3 has been released as such most of this weekend was taken up with going to a haunted mansion on Friday (Spookers) being on call for work on Saturday morning, going to Hot pools on Saturday afternoon, followed up by dinner with friends and Sunday was spent playing BF3 so not a lot of painting done. In saying that Sat morning I did finally get all the first stage grey done on the tank, this took ages to get done
Now its second stage coverage and then the whites/red/metals/skulls/parchments and It's done.
Awesome Land Raider Knightley, it looks fantastic! I am keen to buy one, might have to chuck it on my christmas list. Cheers Wifey! Anyway, how did BF3 go? I LOVED 1 and 2, so hopefully it is as good if not better?
@Jirc - Cheers mate, sounds like a LR would be the perfect Xmas present imo. BF3 is awesome, I seriously need to upgrade my PC though, running it on low and I still get the odd slow down, still worth it though.
@Graven - Seems like its about time to bolster my defenses, seems some one is after my head... and hand.... wait is this some awkward marriage proposal?
Update: the front guns are done, not 100% sold on the white sword but the tank will have plenty of red to break up the sea of grey and it needed more white though. Also I know one of the guns looks like its had a hard night out, but the metal versions are a pain to work with.
Choice, I might have to give it a go. I just updated my PC recently, what are you running?
Turret looks nice dude, but like you said not too sure about the white sword. It kinda looks like it has been left primer white. When I paint white I try to paint it really light grey then edge highlight with a little white, not that I need to tell you how to paint, ha ha ha. Talk soon mate.
I'd go red for the gun to be honest, I love your deep blood reds, they look fantastic!
ok so not too bad. I bought an I5 2.6ghz Quad qith 8 gigs of ram, no graphics card yet though, I want to get a saphire 6770 for it soon though. But it is about the same price as 3 Razorbacks...
Hurricane bolters look mint, but like gitsplitta said, I would also drill the barrels.
Like the red on the guns too. Drilling barrels on metal hurricanes is a pain, but worth it. Nightmarish bloody things to assemble, too. Also, I would red the sword. Quality goods mate!
@Gits - Thanks man, I will drill those barrels, just need to source a new bit
@Jirc - Red you say, will see what I think when the tank is done. If you do start playing BF3 add me Knightley_NZ
@Graven - Agreed man, assembling the tank when I first got it.... never again very very happy they came out with a plastic version is all I can really say.
Update: for a change I did a servo skull before playing BF3 all night. Does anyone know where this skull came from? I have a bunch of plastic ones from the GK sprue and the devastator sprue, but this one is metal and I haven't the foggiest where it came from.
Beautiful work Knightly! such attention to detail! and clean painting, i'd be damn happy if i were you! (and i'd also have cool models!) I really like the fact that your Grey Knights are actually Grey! the raider is looking ace too, I love the little red wings on the side panel with the white surround, it just looks so good! you've really done an amazing job with it to date! in fact, looking through this this morning has inspired me to paint today! :-) prepare for more sallies from me this arvo!
keep it up dude, i'm looking forward to seeing more work!
I go away for a couple of weeks to slave over my old, mostly ruined necrons in prep for today (NEW NECRONS!!!!!!!!), and you go and do this. Its disgusting, and wrong and evil, and I will just have to beat Gitz to your hand :p
Seriously mate, everything on the last 28 pages looks mint
@NF09 - Thanks heaps man, comments such as yours are a treat to read it certainly helps to keep on posting my models (when time permits)
@a_h_d - I had to laugh, when I first read your post it was "I will just have to beat Gitz with your hand" needless to say I was rather confused. I'm also slightly stoked to see the necrons get some loving, the last thing that will make me happy is when Tau get an over haul once that's done I think I'll be fully able to decide on my next force (although Eldar are way out in front)
@G_D1 - Cheers man, I've been keeping an eye on your blog as well (the non-dakka one) if your Dark Angels are anything to go by your GK force will be pretty impressive
@Ogryn - Thanks man!
@Gits - Yep, I've tried to get the red/bronze look right a few times (you can see my attempts in earlier pic's of other models) but this one seems to have gotten it right
@Miss Dee - Thanks!
Update: More BF3 sidetracking has been going on, so I've only managed to get some skulls done, which skulls I hear you read in your head when you read this (kind of like inception) these skulls
Front
Back
And after posting these realized the front one is out of focus in both shots.... bugger
@Gits - Cheers gits, I'm really surprised how quickly I'm getting through this guy I got about 30/40 mins on him last night and got all the metals done (silver and bronze) finished the edge highlighting on the red, got the white/black done on the weapons/pack and got started on the bone cloth, very quick.
@Ogryn - Cheers man, your continued support is a very great help!
@DSS - Cheers mate. Some of the GKHQ units can have up to 3 servo skulls (IIRC the GKGM/ GKBC/GK Libby/Inquisitors/and Techmarines can all have up to 3 skulls as upgrades)
@Farty Wiffmas - Thank you, he's getting closer to finishment (not sure thats even a word)
Update: Metals/reds/blacks/whites done. Only cloth/face/brown left to knock out.
@Gits - Cheers, although the weathering was purely by accident so I can't take full credit on that bit
@Ogryn - Thank you!
@XDumboX - Thanks heaps
@GD1 - Thanks
Update: No work done on the Land raider done at all, finding it very very difficult to get into it, I know its so close but I look at it and all I can manage is a 'Meh, I'll do it later"
But I did do the block work and wash on Paladin number 4
@Miss Dee - This one isn't that flush but I used some pretty heavy duty rubber bands to hold it together while the glue dried.
@Ogryn - Thanks, fingers crossed it will look good once I've finished it
Update: Finished stage 1 red, whites done, bone done, brown and blacks done. 80% completed I think, only stage 2 and 3 reds to go, highlights with Mithril silver and then plenty of small black squiggles to go.
That's pretty freaking beautiful. I love the small details like small shield on the back left side, the swords and packs etc. Great as ever, and the BT parts look so right it's scary.
Much better, your painting style has really advanced. One point of critisicm is the writing on the front scroll is notably off-centre. Everything else though is amazing!
The helmet-less head always reminds me of the scout for the brotherhood of steel in the fallout universe, or the recon helmet. interesting tidbit, I ;like the after on the landraider too.
@GD! - More teasing to come mate, I can't seem to stop base colors and washing the last of this push....
@Ogryn - Hahaha, I too wish I could reach in to the screen and take models, there are some fiendishly talented painters who I would love to have even 1 of their models!
@SBK - Thanks, and some one has finally noticed another part of my dedication to Dakka, 22,222 votes is a milestone I feel, I think I might be the top voter on Dakka now. Thanks for posting btw it means a lot.
@Medabee - Cheers, I've started to really like painting faces which is a complete 180 from when I first started painting. Thanks for taking the time to post
Update: spent most of last night base painting and washing the last tank in this push, having experienced the time it took to finish the land raider I felt If I start now I can do bits and bobs while painting other models.
Been on a real slump for a while and unable to get interested to paint anything. Then gave it a try doing it your way, painting one model disassembled, and BAM! First solid progress in weeks.
@DSS - Thanks man, I shall endeavor to get some cleaner lighted shots, but you might have to wait till the end for a completed model shot though.
@Markillius - Hey man good to see you back and painting. How did you find doing it when the model is broken down? I know not every one likes doing it that way so I'm interested in getting your experience on it.
@JohnnoM - Lots of thin coats then some tidy edge highlighting
@Norn King - Thanks heaps for taking the time to comment, it means a lot
@Miss Dee - Heheh, great comment!
@Ogryn - Cheers.
Here's a question: I have five Purifiers to paint after I finish the last half of a tac squad but I am interested to get opinions on the helmet color, do I go bone or white?
Update for today, got the body done, just the banner, arm, tilt pad, back stick uppy thingy to go.
@Markillius - Hey man good to see you back and painting. How did you find doing it when the model is broken down? I know not every one likes doing it that way so I'm interested in getting your experience on it.
Honestly, I found it invigorating! The way that I did it was as follows:
Then, I assembled it with minimal glue so that i could OSL highlight it with boltgun to chainmail/mythiril silver mix.
Then disassembled it to just torso (with head), arms with pads attached, legs, and various weapons/addon bits separate.
It was WAY too easy to get everything painted up well. Everything was easy because i could get at every angle. But the best part about it to me is that I got through the entire paladin painting the gold and highlighting it in one go, something that usualy took me three sit downs to force myself through it. This time, it was fun and I had no background distractions or music.
@Zari - My basing is from the GW sand that came with the old mega paint set, painted calthan brown, devlan mud washed, then drybrushed from scorched brown through to bleached bone
@Markillius - Sounds like it really helped you to paint in bits! I do find that when you go to glue it together you have to be very careful with the glue amounts as some times you'll get a white frosting if you used super glue and then you have to go back over it.
@LDP - Exactly what I was going for!
@Ogryn - Happy to provide regular updates to my regulars
@Medabee - Thanks, whats your favorite model thus far?
Update: only a small bit done, the tilt pad and back banner gubbin'
I may have to start painting in bits. Sounds a heck of a lot better than painting with the full model assembled. For the update, really well done, Knightley. I have never been too good at painting little details. Anyways, I have a question: Have you ever had any experience with Resin Bases?
Well so far the baby carrier conversion you did is my favorite.On the other hand the OLS that you have been doing on your later models (the last 3pages) have been more of interest.
Well page 30, I seriously didn't think I would get this far.
@Ogryn - My advice would be to give it a go, it certainly wouldn't hurt to try it on one model and see if you like it. Regarding your bases question I actually have a set of resin bases that I plan on using on one of the next pushes so you I should have a little bit of experience with it soon enough. Have you used them? if so what did you think of them?
@Zari - Cheers, I do thin my paint with water, I usually put some on my palette then add progressive blobs of water till I get the right constancy I want.
@Medabee - Nice choice I sometimes forget that I made that one it is one of my favorites as well.
Update: threw all the previous bits together after completing the last arm.
Very nice Knightley. Man I'm getting tired of saying that... screw one up once in a while, won't you?? Just for fun & to give the rest of us something different to do??
yeah,looking through your log I found;
knightly-"... I've never considered myself some one who can inspire however its awesome to know that I've managed to inspire you in some way. "
But I gotta say Your my biggest inspiration here on dakka,due in part not just because of your great works but that you log them consistently and are always involved,not elitist. Elitism is NOT inspirational. Unless your a commissar.
Just asking, because I wanted to see some in a future update. Looks like you were prepared for that! The model is turning out really well, I like how you do the scrolls, and seals.
Haha dude sorry i'm running out of comments, all I ever comment on is about how clean your models are. But yes. Very clean as usualy, and loving the gold!
@Gits - Hahah, I would say your wish is my command however the last time I thought I screwed up a model every one thought it looked good, don't worry though I'm sure some one can find something to comment about.
@Zari - Thanks man, I have to say its a bit weird to be quoted, I can't say it's been done before. The way I see it, if I can give to the wargaming community just 1/10th of what I get from it with ideas, painting techniques, conversion schematics and theoretical debates then this is all worth it in some degree.
@Ogryn - Thanks man, the scrolls and purity seals were an accident, one that was pleasant enough that I decided to keep doing it like that.
@LDP - Cheers man, I'll take any compliment/comment I can, your Honor Guard for Marnius is looking tight as well btw.
@Norn King - Thank you
Update: Banner done, I need to attach it to the body and squiggle the bajezus out of the model.
I'm with LDP on this one. All I say about your minis is how insanely clean and crisp they are. I hope you don't get tired of hearing that, or this; AWESOME work as usual.
Knightley, I skimmed through a lot of this modeling blog (pages I missed), and loved them all! Also, this Banner has got to be one of my favorite pieces of yours. I have never seen someone do a banner that well. I cannot wait to see what it will look like after the other 3% is done.
Knightley your termie looking great and the banner also . Btw I will be starting my GK soon and will be magnetizing some parts on mine. Looking forward to more of your work!!
@FP - Thanks man, dare I say how could anyone get tired of people commenting on their models? seems to me thats one of the reasons anyone would post online, so they can get input. heck even if it is only one word comments such as Clean, Awesome, Crisp.
@Ogryn - the last 3% is completed my man check below
@GD1 - Awesome man, I will keep a keen eye on your blog for your updates
Update: Paladin Banner bearer completed. I had a game last night and remembered to take actual photo's so I just need to remember what happened and I'll post it up for those who are interested.
Superb banner bearer dude! looking fantastic, the script on the rear looks great and the colour of his helmet is really nice, I can't imagine how much patience you have to paint every part of the mini so perfectly clean and smooth! but it's totally worth it, as they speak for themselves! I think i'll stick to only taking photo's from angles that make my stuff look half good! :-) and never the back lol!
Until i get to your skills/patience! well done again Knightly everything looks amazing!
I declare that today has been a great day! I come home to find a package waiting for me, and an update on one of my favorite threads on Dakka! Really amazing job, Knightley!
@Ice - Cheers, I guess it is the little things that help (like describing how the internals of a thrown grenade work eh?)
@LDP - Thanks, I think that the elites of my army deserve some special attention so that;'s why they are getting the squiggle happy writings.
@Norn King - Thank you
@NF09 - Cheers mate, its always worth it for me to work on each little part, there's 10 devastators where there are bits I couldn't paint and every time I pick them up that's all I can see so having a model where everything is painted to my standard helps focus on the good bits (not the bits I've missed... grumble grumble devastators grumble grumble)
@Miss Dee - I start with a base of Deneb Stone, I then wash it with Devan mud, after that's dry I do a very watered down coat of bleached bone being careful to leave the dark recesses on the armor joints, this is follow up by at least another 3 watered down coats. I have at least 2 more helmets to do (the Paladin Sgt and another NDK pilot head) so I could do a stage by stage if anyone is interested.
@Graven - Thanks man, I guess he does look good enough to eat as well.
Table. 2 Objectives, one in a crater on my side of the board, the other between two buildings about the half way mark (highlighted green)
Dawn of war, I set up, librarian deploys in tower on the left flank, trying to stop the DE from deploying to close to my side, two 5 man tac’s with missile launchers deploy mid field on my side behind cover.
The 2 DE wyche squads deploy, one rear field on his side (due to the 18 inch deployment rule) the other squad deploy in the ruins on the right flank in cover.
DE stole initiative, bastards.
DE Turn 1 Raider/ravager come on the left flank and shoot at the librarian in the ruins, does nothing. The left flank wyches run forward under cover on their objective, the right flank wyches either stay still or move up, I can’t remember. His 3 Reaver jet bikes turbo boost over the ruins and drop caltrop grenades on the librarian he sustains a wound.
GN Turn 1 Two predators come on the left flank rifleman dread comes on centre field and the two Rhinos come on right flank, The right flank tac move so the missile launcher can see his true born, The librarian jumps down from the ruins, passes his leadership and incinerates 2 of the Reavers. The two predators try to shoot at the closest things and tanks but either due to night fighting or misses do nothing to anyone. In the assault phase the librarian assaults the lone jet bike and takes him down consolidating closer to the tanks. The scouts don’t come on yet.
DE turn 2 The left flank wyches run towards the librarian, the right flank wyches run towards the left flank and end up with 50% of their numbers in cover stretching over the road way. The raider boosts forwards and deploys the archon/incubi the ravager moves up as well and shoots at one of the predators and stops him from moving (I think) the raider shoots at the other predator and does nothing, the Trueborn fire at a rhino and fail to do anything. In the assault phase the librarian dies to the archon and they consolidate with a pain token.
GN Turn 2 Right hand predator moves right over the terrain, the Rhinos moved forward, one going 12 inches the other only going 6. In the shooting phase, the predator and the rhino who moved 6 inches all fire at the wyche squad and take down a few. The right hand tac squad fires a missile at the true born and miss. The Rifleman dread fires into the ruins wyches and doesn’t do anything. The left hand tac squad do the same and take down one I think.
DE turn 3 The ravager moves further up and behind some cover, the raider stays still, the ruins wyches bound out and run over difficult terrain and end up 4 inches away from the right hand tac squad, the incubi and archon move further up in the ruins. The ravager shoots and does nothing on the predator, the ravager is equally ineffective on the other predator. The Trueborn fires a darklance into the front Rhino does nothing. The assault phase brings the wyches into contact with my right hand tac squad and the melee ensues, the result. A tie, hilarity ensues.
GN turn 3 Predator moves back to its original position, the dreadnaught moves right to get a better shot at the archons group, the rhino’s move up. In the shooting phase the predators open up on the DE craft and manage to blow one to smithereens the other does nothing. The Rifleman dread opens up on the archons group and takes out 2 of the incubi, the right tac squad missile launches into the trueborn and kills 2, the storm bolter on the rhino shoots and misses. In the assault phase I lose 2 marines but don’t flee or take other wounds (leaving 2 left) scouts are nowhere to be seen.
DE turn 4 The archon separates from his incubi squad and manages to make it into combat with the right hand tac squad, wiping them out in one round of combat, gaining another pain token (seriously this guys melts face) The remaining incubi moves out of cover and rolls a 2 for his difficult terrain and ends up a sitting duck. The wyches kill 1 more marine which works out awesome for them. The ravager moves to its left and shoots at the right side predator and removes the autocannon. The true born fails his morale and runs off the table.
GN turn 4 The Rhinos move further up with the one in midfield sticking its nose out of the ruins to shoot at the wyches but spies the side armor of the ravager and decides to shoot at that the other Rhino boosts behind the ruins to come up behind the ruins. The right hand predator shoots at the ravager but the cover saves prove to be effective enough to save it. The other predator shoots at the archon and manages to score 1 wound (now he’s down to 2) the Rifleman dread also opens up on the archon but is ineffective because he’s gone to ground. In close combat the wyches melt the last marine and consolidate to the small cover there is. The scouts still do not come on the table.
DE turn 5 Wyches move towards the rifleman dread, the lone incubi moves towards the predator, the ravager scoots over to the other side of the ruins. the archon stands up and sits on the objective. In the shooting phase the ravager shoots at the predator and stops it from shooting, in the assault phase the wyches melt the dreadnaught and consolidate into the crater.
GN Turn 5 The predators all decide it’s a good idea to move, so one moves close to the ravager the other moves backwards to fill its vacant position. The rhinos all move the distance and deploy their troops. THE SCOUTS FINALLY TURN UP. In the shooting phase the closest rhino fires and doesn’t wound. The predator that backed up kills the last incubi.
DE Turn 6 The Wyches run towards the objective on my side of the board, the other wyches also run out of cover to the rear of the rhino, the ravager sits still and the archon decides to chill some more as well. In the assault phase the wyches in midfield multi-assault the marines and rhino, they kill 2 marines and immobilize the rhino and only take 1 wound in return, but the boys in grey stick to it.
GN Turn 6 The southernmost rhino moves up and blocks the street while its troops move up the ruins towards the objective. The predator that is unable to shoot moves up 6 inches, just to be menacing. In the shooting phase, the scouts shoot everything into the wyches on my side and miss with the missile launcher but hit with their sniper rifles, and kill one, this forces a pinning test. The predator that move back can now shoot at the wyches as well and kills one with bother heavy bolters. The storm bolter on the rhino fires and doesn’t do anything. In the melee the marines lose another one leaving the sergeant alive, he doesn’t kill anyone but doesn’t fall. Guess who fails the pinning test, that right the wyches do, unable to move or fire the next turn.
DE Turn 7 The archon decides to go mess up the scouts and runs towards them, the ravager moves over to contest the objective, it shoots at the predator but fails to do anything. In the assault the wyches kill the sergeant and consolidate 2 inches towards the objective, still too far away to capture.
GN turn 7 The rhino that was blocking the street moves next to the immobilized rhino the tac squad moves further up to the objective and is in running distance now. In the shooting phase, the rhinos open up on the closest unit of wyches and takes down 1 of their number. The scouts open up again on the other group of wyches but fail to do anything. The predator shoots at the ravager with everything but he manages to save all the shots with his 4+ cover save, there was some serious debate on if 50% of the model was covered but I decided to give it to him in the end (after all it’s a friendly game) The other predator opens up on the pinning unit of wyches but doesn’t do anything.
The game comes down to what happens next I can choose to assault the ravager and if I can take it out hope to consolidate to the objective for a win or I can run to the objective for a tie. Not happy with how I was rolling throughout the night I decide a draw will suit me fine and sprint to the objective. A die is rolled and the game finishes as a draw.
Afterwards while speaking to one of the redshirts he brings up the subject of krak grenades would have melted the ravager, so for giggles we do some rolling to see what would have happened. 5 dice are rolled, 2 hits, of those two only one penetrating hit, on the damage chart. Rolled a six, it would have exploded. Bugger.
