@GD1 - Cheers man, I'm hanging out for your GK's now as well.

@Ogryn - Yeah I'm not much of a general but a old mate of mine is happy to school me now and again

@LDP - Yeah I went on Thursday and had a 1k point game and yes, they do try to sell stuff (I guess that's what they are there for eh?)

Update: Squad 3 Marine 6 done.

@Gits - Cheers Gits, I try to chip away at models at a constant rate, there are some days where I wont paint at all though (and it seems those kinds of day's are becoming more and more prevalent)

@Leohart - Thanks for taking the time to comment Leohart, the box at his feet? its a ammunition container for a heavy bolter, if you look at the backpacks for the devastator models the heavy bolter one has two of those boxes side by side so this is a spare

@Ogryn - Thanks I guess he does have a scowl about him eh?

@FP - Thank you

Yeah something like that. Just basically every step you take snap a pic BTW i'm going to be starting a GK force late next January, just thought you'd be interested I did a test mini and i'll show you a pic. It's not my best standard but its for a realistic speed so I can get an army done and it still looks pretty good and 'grimdark'. I'll show you a pic soon

Grim and dark is good in grimdark but maybe a wee bit of really shiny edge highlighting? Also, @ Knightley - yeah, had noticed dakka quite quiet too.

@Capitansolstice - Thanks man, I'm stoked you like them

@LDP - Step by step... Ok, i'll look into doing that for the purifiers I'm doing soon. I do like your GK's very grimdark!

@bigfish - not sure if you're talking about LDP's GK or my marine, either way thanks for commenting

@Gits - I agree with you, it looks like its missing one small piece.

@Ogryn - I agree, his models do look very nice and I can't wait to see more.

@Graven - I think you nailed it, the silver is very dark and has good shadows but there isn't a contrast to break the darkness, heck even if it is raised edge highlighting I believe it would add a wee bit to it.

@Miss Dee - Any particular FW stuff you're waiting on?

Hi looking good! Well it’s been "long time no post for me" but i have finished my White Scars successor chapter "White Knights" or "White Templars". They use Dark Angel and Grey Knight bit (3 try’s for who my inspiration was ). They will be playible with both Dark Angels and Space Marine rules. I have a custom Sammaels model almost done and a small but playable force still in the works. Just thought that I would tell you (since you are the inspiration that helped me start this project) and don’t worry with in 3 or so day (if I remember) there will be pics(with no/horrible paint jobs).
PS Hope you don’t mind me putting this here...

@Capitansolstice - Cheers for commenting

@Graven - Hey man, cheers I also like to see finished models and your blog is getting plenty of them as well

@Daxx - I don't mind mate I'm all for promoting other peoples blogs and if I ever get to 50 pages I'll do a post with shout out links to all the blogs which have inspired me or I like looking at.

@Capitansolstice - Thanks

@Daxx - Thank you

@Graven - Haha, the micron pen couldn't handle all that awesome so had to go with one word statements, Also why not have a BBQ at Christmas, makes all the sense in the world to me

@LDP - It's only a little bit better because I've had longer painting than you have, why don't we compare models from the same time frame of painting, I have a feeling you'll be destroying me with skill

@Matt.Kingsley - Thanks! The lightning tutorial is from here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/630/349329.page but instead of green I used blue

@WM360 - Cheers man, I'm on PC for playing BF3, are you playing as well?

@GDO - Cheers man, if you do borrow you have to show me what you came up with (so I might be able to steal ideas back off of you)

@WM360 - Gah, you console players eh, still its a great game.

Update: I've been at my parents place for Christmas and I'm heading away for new years, so apologies for no painting/pictures but there will be new stuff in the new year. Christmas was very kind to me, I got a Baneblade and another squad of PAGK's and about $250 to spend on models.

@Ice - Yep, next time I'm at my LFGS I'll get a pack of 10 marines to paint up and trade out.

@Matt.Kingsley - Perfect, what I need to find next will be an Apocalypse game to rock on with

@Zari - No worries, I hope to suitably impress

@Gits - Oh yes, I think the time spent on this squad should show in spades when on the table top or display shelf.

@Graven - Cheers mate, every model done gets me closer to doing a spurt with GMS, I hope your ready to do one for me

@Moltar - One last paladin in this push I can't say for certain if I will stop at only 5... I Probably will but nothing is ever written in stone (except stone carvings...)

@LDP - Different stroke for different folks LDP, your guys are pretty awesome in their own way!

Update: So I had a visitor in the form of my younger brother pop over for the afternoon and he asked me for a favor. He has an old Inquisitor Scale marine (Artemis IIRC) who only needs his head done, so I got to paint a huge head for a change

Some one had fiddled with my camera settings so I ended up taking a few shots

@GD1 - Happy New Years to you as well mate! I did like doing the scale, I might see if I can find one of the old un-assembled Inquisitor models I have somewhere.

@Graven - PM sent!

Just a little bit more from yesterday, my Brother has some old Necrons and I managed to tax one to paint up in his scheme.

@STC_LogisEngine - Cheers man! and just for you I'm back into it again (see below)

@Daxx - Hahah, I wanted to see what it was like painting a Necron, not sure I like it, perhaps it was because the model was fully assembled and already had a coat of paint on it so I couldn't apply my full technique to it (I just realized that it's not 'my' technique more on how I paint)

@Graven - Glad you like it, I might have to whip out some old unpainted TauEeldar and do a few test schemes on them to see what can happen next

@Matt.Kingsley - Thanks man, I had to laugh at the exploded form idea

@Ogryn - Welcome back man, I look forward to your continued commitment to the community!

@Gits - Sounds like a plan, I just need to find many small magnets, of and some explosives....

Update: 3000 posts reached! and the Paladin Sgt done! I tried a different way of painting on the Demon head with a base of mithril silver and only used washes to shade it, I think it would look awesome on armor, not sure it works on flesh (but demon flesh it kind of works)

Beautiful, Knightley! He sure looks like a real Paladin! Great job on the lightning effect on the Thunder Hammer. The Daemon head is spectacular as well.

Love the paint job as always Knightley, but I think i'll agree with daxx. The demon head needs to be darker and maybe even dirtier. The horns are way too clean. Also, for someone who just slew that demon he did an excellent job not getting anything on him. There's also not even any blood on the base, and its clearly dripping blood.

Completely random side note, if you kill a demon does it go back into the warp? If that's the case then would there ever even be demon bodies on a battlefield? I always wondered about that. For some reason I always thought when you killed a demon they disappeared.

As far as i remember, it is their beings, the conscious that goes back. And if I'm wrong he is using his psychic might to stand there and look awesome.

@LDP - Thanks, the hammer took sod all to do as well so I was quite happy at the speed I can do them.

@Ogryn - Thanks mate

@Daxx - Cheers for the comments and I do agree with you, a demon head should be darker and with more extreme highlights but I am still happy with how it turned out.

@M.K - Tip noted and filed away for later

@Ice - Very nice observations you are completely right with the blood not going on him, If I was going to try to justify it.... I would say his armor is so pure that demon blood gets vaporized from it as soon as it touches. yeah, that sounds good, what do you reckon? Regarding the Warp question? I reckon that 'Space Marine' got it right in a way, when you killed one it burst in to fire and dissipated leaving only some remains. However I believe that its the essence/soul which is cast back into the warp as when you read fluff relating to demons it gets talked about them being 'reborn' this leads me to believe that a demons soul is immortal but the body would stay behind (this is why we have demon heads)

@FP - Thank you man!

@Lorna - I agree with you on that one.

I guess that'd work. Now you just need to put some blood on the base and we're set!

@Gits - yeah, I just loaded up a shot gun with some paint and had a blast

@Graven - cheers, I put this one together back in 09 and have only just now go around to painting it.

@Capitansolstice - This actually made me laugh out loud, top marks to you my friend, top marks!

@Ice - I could get all metaphorical on the lack of soul = lack of blood, but I think it could end up taking way to much time to justify it so I'm going to agree with you, more blood for the blood god eh?

@LDP - I've decided to double dip with this guy and have him serve as my SM libby and as my GK libby so he gets a generic paint scheme, for you? I'd vote combination.

@Zari - I'm stoked you like it, when it was glued into the body it certainly brought a central focal point to my brothers model

Libby is coming along sweeet dude! I don't want to overdo the blue on my dude, perhaps just replace the heraldry areas with blue and then do a blue lower leg like I did red/white heraldry on the apothecary. Is that smart?

@Miss Dee - Truth be told I was looking forward to painting something that wasn't grey

@Ice - I tried, but the amount of flat armor to squiggle left a lot to be desired, I got a bit on him, not nearly enough though

@M.K - If it helps, think of him as a SM Termy Librarian just with a GK halberd and wrist mounted storm bolter

@LDP - Yeah definitley smart, if you can give hints of him being a librarian I think that will give a much better effect.

@E_C - Welcome back mate, good to see your posting on your own blog as well, I've been wondering where you had gotten to.

Well i'm honoured that you're honoured, sir.

I tend to only post if i can contribute something original, vaguely helpful or complimentary. With the latter i tend not to do it often as i think the repetition would degrade the meaning, so to speak. i.e. If i tell you 'great job' every time you post an update then it loses it's meaning, it becomes expected and fades into the grey.

As a side note, if i post on your thread, 99% of the time it's because i saw it fitting to exalt it. I use my Exalted Threads tab like a high class subscription thread(with 19 subscriptions) and my Subscription Tab is a history of all of my own threads. But i'm a bit OCD.

@Lorna - Interesting to note you browse on your phone, I've tried it on my own phone but found it to fiddly to really browse effectively.

@M.K - Cheers for the comments, what do you find is the biggest reason you don't post?

@LSC'L - Had to shorten your name, hope you don't mind I fully understand the reasoning behind posting where it will be original and I see what you mean about posting great job over and over again, I have a tenancy to do that often but recently I've been trying to use my words more instead of just one word answers.

@Zari - Thanks, I feel the pose gives a small sense of direction to the model.

biggest reason=restrictions, usually time or device, I've since defaulted to not posting on my IPod because of the crazy spell checks it does, the worst was turn my 'misspelt' version of realised (AKA the non-American way... grumble...) to 'rapist' how the hell does it get that?

And looking good, as usual (after LostSoulCasey'sLaw's comment, I'm feeling kind of stupid posting the same thing again and again on everything... shame on me for not being creative, and shame on everyone for being so good at painting/modeling)

@Daxx - Yep, each of the Purifier squads I intend on making will have MC Demon hammers.

@M.K - Regarding the iPod auto corrects - Some of those would be the best comments, leaving the reader wondering just exactly you were talking about, it adds mystery to the blog Regarding LSC'L comment I understand that when all you can say is "Awesome" or "Nice Work" you can feel like your losing the ability to add content to a blog. However being on the recieveing end its quite uplifting to get people taking the time out of their day/night to comment on what they like seeing, even if it is a "Nice" or "Awesome" every little bit helps.

@Swordwind - Thank you for taking the time to comment, I always like hearing from new posters to the blog, do you have a favorite model/WIP from whats been posted? Regarding the working like a machine, I do what I can with the time presented to me, if your looking for a machine on painting look no further than Sigur this guy is a machine at painting!

@Graven - Cheers mate, I've gotten some Eldar Gaurdians out of one of my boxes that I'll base up and throw some paint on to start the juices rolling on a color scheme, but I'm not 100% sold on Eldar now, With the potential release of Tau and 6th Ed in the wings I might yet change my mind, stay tuned

@Swordwind - Works of Art you say? I consider them OK, and in some aspects pretty neat, I would struggle to say that they are works of art. In saying that though, I don't work in an Art museum so what would I know about what is art Still thank you very much for your kind comment

@Lorna - Those guys look mean! the one with two power fists just oozes awesome!

Haha, indeed, your group shot is not suitable for the lactose intolerant. I can't wait to see a full shot of this push. Is the vindicare going to follow a similar colour scheme or is it going to be a break in your pallet? Personally, i'd like to see it in your colours but darkened way down rather than the usual tired scheme that they normally come in.

Your whole army is looking immense! It's been a pleasure looking through all the pictures since my last visit. @E_C - Holy Bejezzus indeed, this push has been the longest so far and its really great to get such positive feedback from members of the community. It means a lot to me and helps me stay motivated in completing this project. Thank you. Oh and I'll work on getting an army pic, I have a small issue of not having powerful enough lamps to get a good picture, so hopefully you will like just a normal shot.

@M.K - Thanks man

@LSC'L - Dare I ask what a Brony is? I can't say I've heard the term used before.

@Gits - I may have raised the bar for GK's but I've seen your work and I know that you can do BLACKHAND's GK's some justice they deserve.

@Bigfish - Thanks for the comment, I plan to show more pictures of models until the army is finished.

@LDP - Nice man, I saw a lot of the work you've been doing, you certainly don't have idle hands eh? I use three lamps which have the baking paper covering the space between the lightbulb and the model, I then have an A3 sheet of white paper I use as the background. Hope that helps

@Eggroll - Ok, let me work on the logistics of making that happen

@Moltar - Wow, was it really two days, I guess I did get about 10 hours painting time in those two days and I was really in the groove being so close to the end of the push.

@Swordwind - Thanks, If you do ever get some GK's I'd be happy to subscribe to that thread

Update: Pictures of the Third push
All in. Interesting to note, this is about 2270 worth of points, not that much when I think of it.

Close up of the SM portion, this includes 2 x 10 man squads, 1 x marine, 1 x libby, 1 x bike sgt, and the two tanks

Close up of the centre section

And finally a close up of the GK portion, this includes 1 purgation squad, 4 paladins, 1 squad of purifiers, 1 land raider crusader, 1 x assassin, 1 x libby, 6 x servo skulls, 3 x GKSS marines, Admech Terminator and a Razorback

Fantastic mate, were you always this quick or was it something you learned? Does it have anything to do with repeating the same scheme? I ask because it would take me a month to paint one those and it wouldn't look anywhere near as good!

Knightley wrote:@LSC'L - Dare I ask what a Brony is? I can't say I've heard the term used before.

It's a path you would want to venture down cautiously and open mindedly, it's not as weird as it sounds. You also have to be prepared for the fun to be doubled. If you decide its time to venture down the rabbit hole: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/424613.page

@TaWaaagh - Cheers, There's even more below

@M.K - Thanks mate.

@Daxx - Thank you.

@LSC'L - I was never this quick, When I first started (page 1) I spent two weeks on concept, build, paint for 1 model (the apothecary for the command squad) but the more I do it the faster I get I think. I now know what a Brony is... Interesting idea I'm open to the idea's of people building the hobby in what ever way they see fit, good on him for trying something new. I'm of the thinking that MLP was always for little girls, but apparently I was wrong.

@Zari - Well fingers crossed you like the current army pic as much as you did that push.

@E_C - Oh, that wasn't the army pic, that's just what I painted this push. I'm currently trying to get NZ to move its land mass closer to.. well somewhere but that's a rather large WIP

Update: Full current Army pic's below (please note however I really struggled to get a good picture of the models, what you see here is an entire nights work of trying to get proper lighting etc, but not quite getting there.

All in - This shot does not include models that are going to be repainting into the new scheme (see the front page of what is left to repaint)

All Grey Knights - This shot does include every GK model both new style and needs to be repainted

All Spacemarines - This shot does include every SM model both new style and needs to be repainted

Unbelievable! Any idea how many points you'd be running if you played them all in one game? Ignoring choice restrictions to make it possible.
Yeh, Bronies freaked me out a bit at first, i couldn't think of a legitimate reason for adult males to be watching MLP. I tried it out though and it's pretty great as cartoons go, massive props to the team that design it.

And I thought the ones posted before were impressive! How did I forget about the dreadknight/noughts? Oh well glad to see a full army pic after all!

I have the same trouble with larger pics although I think you've managed it a lot better than I did. I suspect that to get even better ones you'll probably need a a different lens/shutter/zoom thing! As you can tell i'm not much of a camera buff so I could be wrong but thats my thinking!

Anyway as always, thanks for the pics/update! Keep it coming!

@Ogryn - Good to see you again Ogryn, I was wondering where you had gotten to.

@LSC'L - I think the total points for both armies is about 4260ish so I have another 6k'ish points to build paint before the army is done.

@E_C - Happy to post a full army shot for you I do suspect that if I had a proper camera (IE: one that you use for professional pictures) and some high grade lights I could do a better shot, I might see if any of my mates have recently taken up photography as a hobby and use them for a night

@Gits - Thanks man, I really liked your army shot as well

@WM360 - I'll see if I can squeeze the Vindicator in, just for you

@M.K - Cheers

@Eggroll - Thank you!

@Swordwind - Yeah I regularly update the first page when I do a post of substance (IE: some pictures) I'll answer the motivation question below

@Ice - All of my marines are quite studious when it comes to squiggles

Update: So today I spent the entire day cleaning metal models I had painted, I popped them all in a tub of simple green for 3 days then got a toothbrush onto them and got 95% of the paint off, I then found an old vibrating toothbrush and used that on all the bits I couldn't get clean. So there is SFA left to clear on them (picture below) and so for a treat I start on a GMS marine and got IceAngel's Marine basically done, Just need to drill the barrels and clean 1 mold line

Ice's GMS front

Ice's GMS side

Metal models cleaned - Note I wont be painting all these right now.

Motivation - What keeps me going? Basically its every one who posts on this blog. Holy frak that's a lot of marines! Will you be fielding all 10k at any point? If so does that mean you have some very big angry vehicles planned?
I'm glad we can help motivate you, i can understand how that boosts you to keep going.

@LSC'L - Yeah mate, you have no idea, there is still another 25 odd tactical marines to build paint let alone the tanks/support crews. If NZ had large apoc games I would be very very tempted to take them and show them all off. For BAV's I do have another Landraider and a Fellblade to make

An example of a Fellblade, this might be what I'm looking at making, but for GK's
Spoiler:

@Leohart - Oh I plan to touch the snotlings out of that Thunderfire cannon, definitley stay tuned!

@M0rdain - Thanks mate

Update: I gathered and built up 5 Marines for Lorna for our GMS swap. Still need to fill the slots in the bases and adjust the poses, but basically what you see there is what is getting swapped

Has anyone had any experience with shipping to NZ from USA?

It say's it was shipped on 25th Jan and I'm assuming its 2 weeks to get here with customs etc? any advice would be good to hear

That's intense heavy support! Would i be right in saying you haven't done any extensive conversions on this project yet? Would it be wrong of me to hope for one or two? It might be a nice break at 5000 points of painting.

When I sent my GMS marine from the US to vent in NZ. It sat in customs for a month before he had to go, pay a fee, and finally get it.

@LSC'L - I think the biggest conversion work would be the jetbikes, My GS/Plasticard-FU is lacking somewhat so I try not to try over the top builds
Spoiler:

@Blackhand - Funny you mention it, as soon as I got home there was a package waiting for me

@Lorna - Thanks mate, Your marines are also staring me in the face, they will be the first to get a lick of paint once the build phase is completed

@Ice - Interesting to note about the customs, was there a reason he had to pay a release fee?

Update: Gits GMS on its way to being done two potential versions

@LSC'L - Cheers man, I'll see what I can come up with.

Update: Whale'Music360s marine is basically done, not as over the top as the other swaps due to a giant plasma cannon taking up space, with a lick of paint it should be good though.

@Logg_Frogg - Thanks, I wanted it to be on the complete other spectrum of the first one I did.

@Ice - That actually made me spit up my coffee when I read the Imperial Fisters.... it conjured up far to many negative connotations as well as humerus chuckles.

I'd like some community input now, I found out that the Baneblade comes with an IG tank commander on a base, perfect oppertunity to make a henchmen huh? problem is I'm stuck on a version I really like.

Your input into what one looks the best or which combination looks the best would be greatly appreciated

All looking awesome mate, loving the retinue, objective marker looks 'suitably chaotic' and the land speeder is definitely original! (in a good "i'll rob the idea later" kind of way! ). Have you considered getting hold of valkyrie or maybe even stormraven tail fins to use as the landspeeder wing extensions? Would save you the hassle of detailing them yourself!

On the subject of stormraven, good to see you finally getting one! With all that extending work going on, has it crossed your mind to just go the whole hog and make it in to a Thunderhawk?

Scrollwork? Maybe some additional paneling? I like it btw. How about feathers? Use the fairings off the front of ravenwing bikes, cut down and away from the headlight. I can probably provide if you need, though I know you have a plethora bitz.

@E_C - Thanks for the compliments mate! I hadn't considered going to Thunderhawk status, but now that you mention it.... that might have to be the last thing I do for the army, it would be a lot of work

@Graven - Oooh thanks for the idea, I might chop one up and see what it looks like! and yep CH conversion kit, it makes the SR look much better

@Ice - Noted, I'll see what it looks like tomorrow

@LSC'L - Noted for Henchmen V1, Thanks for the SR comment, and I think I'll do the rocks/color the same as my bases but do the Icon's in their main colors (Red for Khorne, Green for nurgle etc)

@Vit - Interesting idea, I might draw some on and see what it looks like before I get cut happy (loving the Matt Ward love btw, he's my hero as well )

@WM - Looks like you follow all the best plogs then heh

@LDP - Yes indeed, some models I am really looking forward to painting.

@Proto - its going to test my mental state of mind thats for sure

Update: I took some closer shots of the turret on the SR - I'm thinking about adding a thick Plasticard strip between the covers and putting a targeting array on top of that. Thought?

-Crisp & Grey- A NZ blog (May Update - I painted a Dragon!) @ 2012/02/14 07:59:42

Post by: Casey's Law

Sweet, i think the plasticard strip is a good idea. I'd suggest filing down further and then putting it in so you have a lower section which will add natural detail. I'd also suggest adding the targeting system on top but to one side of the gun turret, asymmetry often looks more believable in my opinion. If your planning on trying either of those things out i'd try dry fitting first to make sure it has the right effect, i'm just guessing by eye.
Oh actually, the plasticard 'armour plate' could look just as good if you raised it above the level of the other two, again creating more detail.
Hope that helps.

@LSC'L - Cheers, I figure I'd play it as what ever I need it to be at the time of the game, I doubt there would be some one who would play my army as a what you see is what you get game (having seen the dreadnaughts etc)

@Kevv6 - Thanks, I actually hadn't realized this blog had gotten to 40 pages, that's a lot to read through so kudo's to you!

@GD1 - Welcome back, I was wondering where you had gotten to, I hope nothing to untoward?
