hmm, so that was quite a gap, apologies.
The next Munda campaign is drawing close and I will be finally bringing my Scavvies to the table for a whole campaign. I have been making more minis than I need which I will post up at some point and have been tinkering with the Scallys again without ever really getting them right. Then, shooting Supernatants on fallout, I thought "I wonder if I can make one of those?
Here is the first attempt
Still need to smooth him out a bit. I will try another one with a gun tomorrow.

@Theophony - Cheers for the welcome back buddy. I always love following your thread as we started our blogs at the same time and yours is now MASSIVE! gives me something to shoot for if I wasn't so lazy
@ PDH - you are probably right he is a little too rotten. I am really struggling to create scallies that match the original source material. I will post some of my other attempts when I get a chance, anyway thanks for the comment.
I went to a friends the other day to play Mordheim with a new Marienburg war band, unfortunately the previous game to us was running in to extra time so he asked if I fancied a throw away game of GorkaMorka. I had not played since I was a teenager but he had two mobs all drawn up so I thought what the hell. We ended up playing two games back to back and it was some of the most fun I have had rolling dice in years! I completely forgot how epic and exhilarating the vehicle rules are and how many bonkers and hilarious consequences they lead to!
I had started to build a mob a little ways back but I never made it very far. As soon as I got home I got back on task. I will put some pictures of the boys when I get a chance but I kicked off yesterday with tackling their transport, something i did not even touch last time round.
We had decided not to play with the small Gorka bases so I immediately knew that I would have to create a track or truck that could house 8 or so models on its flatbed and the current work truck miniature would not cut the mustard for such a purpose. I am relatively new to plasticard but I thought this would be an excellent opportunity to play as anything that I created that looked bodged would add to the "orkyness"
I started off by following the instructions and once most of the model was in place I started repurposing and expanding. By lunch I was this far.
Most of the basics were in place and I had created a platform to build on. This is where I had reached by the end of the day
because every vehicle should have a grot sponson
The only section I am not really happy about is the back of the truck. I still have to fit its boosters which will be the rocket packs from the stormboyz kit but I think I have made the teeth too big and goofy, I mights layer smaller teeth on top and see if that breaks it up a bit.
Still lots of gubbins to add around the edges but essentially it is now there.
All thoughts and comments welcome.

I love that truck! You've done a really top job of making it bigger but not making it look ridiculous, which is the downfall of many Gorkamorka trukks. That shot with all the boys in the back with the grot sponson blazing away is awesome!

Thanks Dr H, It's pretty simple process actually. I undercoated white, washed it with a thinned out mix of tin bits and bolt gun metal, washed again with the GW blue wash, then applied the oxide and rust technical paints from their range. if it needs to be tied together at the end another thin wash of nun oil or sepia can help

Hi all, been a busy few days of painting and modelling. Got another scary done, I am not as pleased with him as the last one and i think I made an error with the red triangles following the line of the shotgun but he will suffice for now.
After converting some original Van Saar for a friend (those original models are a bitch to cut in to) I thought i would start on my own VS project. I have seen many different minis used for VS proxy bodies, often Eldar guardians, or the more effective but massively expensive Elysian drop troops. As soon as i saw the the Cult hybrids I thought they could be a new option so have plumbed for this option, also because i have not seen anyone else try it yet so it is nice to work off a completely fresh slate.
Here is a test ganger and a first attempt at a leader. I wanted to arm him with the Elysian Plasma gun but then realised I had butchered it.... doh
Finally I moved on to the reason I bought the cult sprue anyway, yet another attempt at effective Scallies. I would have loads by now if I did not cannibalise previous versions every time I take another swing at the creatures.
this guy still needs his head swapped out.
I must say the new plastic hybrids are an incredible kit and the first "I must have that" from GW in a while for me. I had a great time playing around with everything so far and am enjoying mixing up painting and kit bashing for a change.
All feedback and critique welcome.

Nice to see your back it again mate and some impressive stuff, great use of the renegades for scavies and could still work just as well as renegades so great duel purpose there
I would agree with you on the red triangles running inline with the shotgun was an odd choice, but you could easily fix it if you decide to.
I have to totally agree with you on the hybrids being an actual wanted addition to the ranks, maybe GW are actually satarting to listen to there fan base ........
I am sorry to burst your bubble mate but I have already come across a van Sar conversion using these, but you probably ain't see it so mums the word LOL
But I like your take on the scheme, has a kind of regal noble vibe to the second guy.
As for the scavies I like the first one a lot, any chance of part break downs ?
Is it a Tau head by the way ?
As for the second scavie overall I like the form but I think it could benefit from GS ing the genestealer aesthetics on the forearm, also maybe add some scales to the head, shoulders and top of the arms would be cool.
Can I ask where are the bases from ? The latest grey resin ones

@LDD - good to hear from you dude. Noooooo haha link please it would be great to see what folk are up to. I thought I had, for once, not ripped someone off.
Parts list for the first Scally is: body - hybrid abbarent, gun gorkamorka kanon and paintbrush protector. The heads for both are from the chaos forsaken kit, they have horns that I have taken off.
The bases are scibor miniatures. I grabbed them from Dark Sphere.
In terms of removing Genestealer bits yes they are no where near finished, they both need all the chitin obscured and I will probably spot scale them like I did with my first Scally all the way at the beginning of this thread.
@EDC thanks for the kind words, I am enjoying putting these ones together

I'll see if I can track down a link for you mate it was on Facebook so it might not be that simple
Damn I was convinced that head was a tau forsaken you say might have to see if I can find me one of those heads then
They work really well for scallys, I did consider making some large muties out of my set for an Apoc setting, after seeing these I think they should work quite nicely.
I thought it was a gorkamorka cannon it's great how it fits so nicely to theme and look right with the pose
Scales dabbed around would look spot on definelty, I'll have to go back to check your early work now
Cheers about the scibor bases need to find me some of those now

@Theophony, thanks for dropping by dude, pleasure to hear from you as always
Have been playing around with the Las Cannon heavy for my Van Saar for a few days now. The torso is naturally really hunched so I have perched him on some rubble to try and counteract this, the head may stay but essentially is just helping me have a good understanding of the pose as I build him ATM
Tony started the gaming group we play at and his most famous ganger is Hatchet Arry the leader of his Orlocks. He asked me if I wanted to have a go at kitbashing a new mini for him. This is where I have got to
He is nearcompletion. I have to sort out his belt area all the way round and do something with the base of his neck, but 90% complete. I have to say I'm really pleased with him and would be tempted to make an Orlock gang now because he has worked so well.
Hope you like.

Post by: lone dirty dog
Very characterful looks like a questing knight ragged and torn but still defiant.
The only thing I can pick any kind of fault with and it ain't really a fault is his sword hand, in my mind seems a little small which to me reduces his grandness and stature.
Maybe a little armour detail around the wrist with some GS or one of those little GK shields maybe ? Just a thought mind but over all looks great mate.

Beautiful model! Shifting the gaze has really changed the whole feel of the pose.
25730
Post by: nathanie1
@LDD - hey man, in the pic the hand does look small but in real life it matches the other gripping the shield and it is from the empire demigryph kit so is fairly chunky. I think the size of the helmet is maybe throwing the scale off in the photo.
@Scarper - hello again my friend. Thank you, I initially planned to pose the head similarly to the whight, I can across the alternative almost by accident. I'm glad your own thread is back up and running, looking forward to more of your work.
I still need to add some more favours and some GS chainmail. Will hopefully have some updated shots tomorrow and if I have time I will post the finished Van Saar as well.

apologies for the short period of silence.
Our gaming group has expanded from specialist/ skirmish games and a few of us have been exploring Warhammer Fantasy (8th edition)
I have always loved the undead range ever since I got bought the old beige plastic skeleton hordes kit back in 1990 and have had various parts of VC/ undead armies throughout my life that never quite saw completion, so its time to give it another go. I have assembled most of the army to a standard build with little to no kit bashing but now that I am getting to the characters it seemed time to have a bit of a play and a departure from the standard options.
I actually started wanting to run a no vampire build with just necromancers and Wight Kings but I have found it frustrating and i have yet to find a necromancer base model that I can really attack so in the mean time I have started playing with a couple of vampire options.
First a Stigoi Ghoul King WIP
Then a Lahmian for a more standard Vamp character option again WIP
Very much early days at the moment so nothing set in stone for either model. Would love any pointers or constructive crit from you guys as I feel I have stared at them for too long and am losing the ability to see the wood for the trees.

It looks like I am in to all things undead ATM and decided to start building a TK force along side my VC.
It appears I am a little late to the party now though and the kits are going for astronomical prices on eBay.
These guys for instance are £45 for a box of ten.
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-KlXkUTkiwMM/UEgkUFg2e-I/AAAAAAAACP0/483HhpJrkbc/s1600/Tomb+Kings+Tomb+Guard.jpg
So that really only leaves the option of building some myself. I also wanted to have a bit of movement in the model. I was really inspired by this bit of art from the book and wanted to try to get a bit of that aesthetic in.

I ended up working on this fella for the afternoon taking pics as I went so it would be clear how he was built up.
It was a fun process, I don't know if I can do it another 29 times, but we will see what happens. It was my first time working with 0.25 mm plasticard, using it to detail on top of 1mm. I learnt a lot and am excited to explore it further.

@Dr H - cheer man appreciated as always.
I got a second guy done today, as I expected he took less time as I was not having to work it out as I went along and I got to learn from some of my missteps yesterday so some of the detailing is a little neater.
I wish I knew how to make the photo uploads crisper, they are really focussed on my phone and laptop but I can't convert them to have the same res.

Post by: RiTides
Photo crispness is a known bug lego (the sire admin) has on his list to fix, see here:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/634838.page
A good test is to click on the image and go to the gallery page, where you can zoom in. It should look clearer there.
I get around this by resizing the images in MS Paint and saving as a .png. It makes a large file, but that's fine! If you want to decrease file size you can use http://www.pixlr.com
But I think for just resizing MS Paint works great!
I like a width between 750 and 1000 pixels. If you make it this size, when you post your pics from the Dakka gallery just select full size instead of medium from the "share this image" dropdown (right under the image) and them copy the code from the Forums field right below that. Give it a try and let me know if it works for you - it's worth it for clearer pics, imo!

I began work on my Collosus today. Due to the lack of conversion materials and sparse supply of the original range I am finding myself having to widen my search for parts to areas I would not normally explore. Generally speaking I don't rate using action figures for the hobby but the McFarlane range for Walking Dead are pretty decent quality when it comes to detail and this chap had a look I knew I could build on. Very VERY early stages but I have managed to settle him into a pose I am happy with for the moment and have a applied a base layer of bandage to sit under everything else.
Still to go will be to add a front to the collar that runs down the torso, armouring his forearms and shins, some kind of loin cloth and a scratch built great weapon. I still haven't decided whether to keep his head or replace it with a death mask or an eagle headdress. Plenty to be getting on with then.....
23897
Post by: Scarper
I'm really excited to see where that will go - I agree with you, action figures in the hobby tend to look like dressed up toys, but this one has a lot of potential! I think a headdress would tie in with the theme, death mask seems a shame when the face is so detailed.

Final update for a little while as I'm on night shoots over the weekend.
I removed the cloak. It was too tattered and had too much movement (I like the idea of everything being dead in the desert, even the wind)
I then added a basic cut and shut topper for the loin cloth, it changes it high a little so it doesn't look like it is hanging off the hips any more where he has shrunk and dessicated but I am happy with the look.
I then pinned his other arm in place ready for the great weapon and started the detailing on the legs and arms. I have finished the bangle on his left hand, was worried it looks a bit like a wristwatch but paint will help with that. The one on the right is just the base shape and I plan on adding another couple of them or a forearm guard. The shin guard looks a little hokey, it's following the line of his leg but the angle looks a little exaggerated, I will see if adding the detailing and second shin guard on the other leg remedies this, either way it will be relatively simple to rip it off and reposition.
My main concern now is that I overclutter him. I'm starting to lose the big plain areas of the miniature which I quite liked, but at the same time I like everything I am adding in isolation. I have a feeling it will turn into a bit of a balancing act, I am planning a simplistic paint scheme so this could help 'pull back' any overreach in detail.
The scheme I am thinking of can be seen here

quick update.
I ended up having to host a campaign game at mine the other day which meant dragging out my half finished Necromunda gaming board. It is a project that often occupies my mind but rarely my actual hobby time
The trenches and sump sewer both worked excellently during the match and it kick started me to break out the plasticard and make some progress. The sewers on half 1 are now pretty much complete as well as all the trench system so I can finally start building floor structures.
Below is a simple picture documentation of the build.

Hey everyone,
Sorry for the radio silence it’s been a packed six months of work, mainly away.
Over the last week I got my first time off since January so I started to articulate some of the ideas that have been knocking around my head.
Always loved hybrids and think that they have a place in Necromunda. However my nose was put out of joint by White Dearfs mining suit explanation last month. It seemed a bit square peg/ round hole so I decided to break some chumps out of their hazard gear and see if I could put the ‘cult’ back in to their aesthetic.
Phase 1 - the basic build, is now pretty much complete
