I think you might be right but I think they are trying to use more original aspects as to design and effects, although I will believe it when I see it and it is just rumours at this stage.

Yes but thats just location shooting, the majority of set and studio work was done in the UK although the CGI work was all US based I thought.

Well, location shoots are usually a small part of any movie, as set and studio is a larger section of the movies make up.
Plus location shoots cost more money and drive up expense, which is why they keep it to a minimum.

I ruined my back last Sunday, which has meant no fight work and no bending over a hobby desk, I have missed you all. Gingerly tried some kit bashing today but only managed about half an hour.

Both WIP, nothing particularly new or exciting from previous work, just another scavvy and bounty hunter.

@LDD - thats right you are bang on dude. It works really well actually and could be for either universe. I'm thinking of trying the same combo to make a witch hunter for Mordheim.

1am inspiration. I have been producing a steady stream of bounty hunter models with no real purpose, then I realised I could tweak them and start a freebooter gang.

I am massively excited about this idea. Space pirates have always filled me with joy and I don't know why I have never tried to make this gang before.

Working off the two miniatures produced today I think I may have a captain and an astropath / navigator. It is an excellent opportunity to build all kinds of low down dirty xenos scum suckas. This s going to be fun

I like him a lot, although I'm not completely sold on the sword arm - look a little unwieldy. A Cadian arm might work better?

nathanie1's workstation - Pitslaves 2.0 @ 2013/05/18 14:37:41

Post by: lone dirty dog

I like the idea of the freebooter gang I might even join you on this trail of thought as I have been mulling over Space Pirate idea for a while myself

Also the witch hunter is worth experimenting with I just love the concept art GW has for them, you may have hit on a good way of developing that look into minis

I think the arm works all right for the freebooter theme, maybe add a parrot though

Sounds like a good idea motivation is not a strong point of mine maybe with a push it might help me put my ideas into effect

What kind of approach are you intending gang, character, vessel and crew ect, or was you referring to the witch hunters ?

Either way might be nice to try this approach, plus I like the idea of bouncing characters of others creations and themes

I will drag my bits boxes out and start the rummage

@LDD I have a couple of ideas that I will post on here presently, eitger revolving around the ship being damaged so they are marooned until it gets fixed or that they are searching for a missing crew member that stole a valuable piece of archeotech and they have been tracking him for years across the galaxy

I see where we going here ok

I kind of had an idea based around a crew on intergalactic hauliers that turned rouge, based on criminal intent with a knowledge of wealthy shipments and space travel routes.

This way it leaves it open for alternative races and equipment design.

I like the new guy I am thinking a mini gun of sorts would be cool.

Hey maybe my crew stole your guy and his artefact

@inmygravenimage - a harpoon! What a great idea.

@LDD - a minigun, now you guys are making decisions tough, harpoon? minigun? Harpoon? Minigun? Predator? Money dick?

@ Maus - A PORTABLE CANNON!!!!???

RIGHT, SOD THIS HE'S GETTING A LASPISTOL

That will learn you for giving me useful and inspiration advice.

LDD I plan also to have a xenos filled crew, I'm thinking a kroot, my navigator (see the last scavvy above) as a random race, and the classic return of the imperial beast man

I also started work on an ex pitslave to be part of the crew

nathanie1's workstation - Pitslaves 2.0 @ 2013/05/21 08:12:15

Post by: lone dirty dog

LMAO a las pistol I still think a mini gun ia the way to go myself

I was thinking beastmen as a loader but was going to the Tau root rather than Kroot for one of my crew, also an ogre as the heavy loader and ship muscle.

Maybe even invent a few races my self, I am hoping to start this weekend coming on my crew might have a little spare time

I like the pitslave idea looking forward to the pics on that one

@ LDD I can only apologise, I have been lurking the whole time but had a break from making things, lost my mojo for a while. Aside from that I've been stock piling models and desperately telling myself I can't afford to start collecting dark elves

@ Theophony hahahah awesome he really has eaten all the pies

I managed to pretty much finish this guy tonight

I have been rolling the idea around in my head for a while, ever since I one the plague ogryn for a steal on eBay. I actually bought a plague bearer a kit for my scavvy's but fell in love with it so I decided to make this guy and a unit to sit around him. I will be able to use them either as allies for my WOC or proxy warriors with mark of nurgle

He was a really fun build. The arms on the original body were much longer and separated into two crocodile jaws, I had to shorten them, remove the teeth and mould them back together. His claw was restiched in the same way. When it came to the other hand I started off by restiching the separated halves on the original model and then cutting the finger joints to close it around the haft of his spear.

However the fist looked too bulky, even though it match the one on the other side so I changed it for Belakor's daemon sword.

I have gone with one of the more basic heads on the kit rather than the more ornately horned choices. I am still unsure on whether that was the right choice but. It will be really easy to swap if I change my mind. I'm also considering adding plague drone wings but I don't own any yet so this will also have to wait.

nathanie1's workstation - Pitslaves 2.0 @ 2013/10/03 14:32:11

Post by: nathanie1

Hi there folks. Did some mild changes today and some basing. Started off by shortening his claw arm as it was a little too long and looking slightly ape like. This also gave me the chance to reposition the hand into a slightly more dynamic pone. I also fleshed out the back of his neck and hinted at a spinal coloumn, I may make this more prominent but not sure if I have the requisite GS skills to achieve what I have in my head, have surprised myself before though.

I know cork basing is everywhere but I wanted to give it a try. I'm most excited about building up layers that spill into ah ascent bases, using height to allow for an overlap. It's early days but I think this could look really effective

nathanie1's workstation - Pitslaves 2.0 @ 2013/10/04 19:43:29

Post by: Skalk Bloodaxe

Cork basing looks really cool which is why people use it so much. I've never tried it myself but my first concern is how effectively the cork bonds w/ the base, and how well the model bonds to the cork. I've seen too many great models become random bitz when the plastic base and covering (cork / PVA / etc) separated.

nathanie1's workstation - Pitslaves 2.0 @ 2013/10/04 21:39:14

Post by: Viktor von Domm

i think the trick with bonding cork to the base is to mix glues... PVA alone wouldn´t be working for eternity... but once you add superglue or even some plastic glue to break the base surface a bit...it would last...

at nate...don´t fear the basing... the tiers you did look very cool!
as for the abomination... ´orrible

I have swapped the head on the Daemon Prince again. I really can't decide what decision to stick with. The previous head is too small, but that has an aesthetic which I like. This new head is certainly a better scale but it looks a bit generic. Any thoughts and criticism welcome.

I also started working on the Herald. Festus was an expensive mini t cut into pieces so I am hoping it works out.

nathanie1's workstation - Pitslaves 2.0 @ 2013/10/14 20:01:39

New head looks decent! As far as being generic, the paint will define it and make it different. just 1 man's opinion, take it for what it is worth to you.

@ Skalk, theo and Vik cheers guys I think you are right the new head is the better choice. Vik the head is one of the plague bearer options mate

Ye more changes today, if I change my mind any more on this model I am at risk of doing some irreversible damage.

Still not finished, even though I am back to the original weapon hand I want to close it around the pole more and probably change the blade as well as hang chains / trophies.

Sorry progress is so slow, a lot of fight work this week but trying to do a little every chance I get.

On a completely separate note I went to see 'Knightmare Live' tonight. If any fellow Brits remember this awesome show from their youth I can not recommend this enough. Here is me wearing the helm of Justice!

put the first lick of paint down on the marines. just a base coat and the start of highlights but I am proceeding with caution as its my first time painting astartes. He almost ended up as a lamenter, the checks remind me of the classic age of eavy metal painting but I really hate their heart decal. In the end I have settled on Raptors, I like their drab colour scheme and fluff and there are transfers readily available from Forgeworld.

Starting to get somewhere. Until, I buy the transfers from forgeworld he is going to seem kind of plain, I'm holding off until we know more on this rumoured website merger to see if I can get a shipping discount.

I can foresee issues over introducing very white transfer decals to a model that has had its colours muted but until I get hold of them I won't know for sure

@warboss thanks dude, much appreciated

Just a small update, tinkering around with some Mordheim stuff but so as to jot jump all over the place here are a few details added to the dred. I read an article a while back about using salt and hairspray to create wear and chips to paintwork and wanted to try it ever since so here is my first attempt on the dreds leg. I think it works better if you are airbrushing but I've never used one and am a little intimidated by the price and skill level required, so I went at it very carefully with a brush trying not to dislodge the salt crystals. The white should offset the transfers when they go on.

I'm not really happy with the blacks on the model. I follow San76 and he was talking about never using true blacks but very dark greys which I have been experimenting with here but I think I need to tinker with it some more.

The head especially does not pop and I think it is throwing the model off a little. Maybe I chose the wrong eye colour?

nathanie1's workstation - Pitslaves 2.0 @ 2014/03/21 00:41:59

Post by: Deunstephe

It's probably the wrong eye colour throwing the model off. Green on green isn't very striking unless you use a vivid, neon, lime green to really strike out. Try using something warmer like orange or red to combat the "coolness" of the green.

nathanie1's workstation - Pitslaves 2.0 @ 2014/03/27 18:44:02

Post by: nathanie1

Final details going on. Changed the eye colour, it's an improvement but still not sure I have it right. I worry that I need to bring the general brightness of the image up, which will be an arse.

the weathering on that stripe on the leg looks good...how did you do that?... the raptors scheme looks very cool to that model...for me a good decision... and the current eyecolor is on the right way! but probably orange would be the best choice...

nathanie1's workstation - Pitslaves 2.0 @ 2014/03/27 19:36:14

Post by: nathanie1

@vik hey man, how sit going?

The strips were a process of masking off the area, spraying the exposed sections with hairspray then sprinkling on rock salt. Once the salt has stuck to the hairspray, then spray on the stripe colour. Once the paint has dried run the miniature under the tap and give it a gentle scrub with an old toothbrush, this should dissolve the spray and the salt leaving the weathering marks in your paintjob. Hope that helps

I didn´t knew one would try the salt method on a comparing small model...on a tank, yeah... but that takes some balls to try it on a dread.... well done mister^^

by the way... have you checked the current leagues comp theme?...maybe that´s something for you too...

So I was contacted in the week by beardlegend in regards to playing some necromunda. I looked over my work from a while back and decided I would really like to give skavvys a go but I had never built enough models to field a gang. So tonight I began to beaver away on reinforcements before we meet for the first time this Wednesday.

I also started playing around with an old Yarick model I had in my bits box. Can normal commissar's carry storm bolters?

Happy Easter everybody.

Damn scavvies! I like what you've done with the Necromancer. He looks nice and twisted.

The Yarrick conversion is inspired. Really like the way you have completely changed the flow of the model. Normal Commissars cannot take Storm Bolters, however they can take normal bolters....so one barrel is obviously jammed if your opponent questions it! Just in case you've missed it there is a nasty mould line running down the top of the officers cap.

Looking forward to seeing more.

Ah sh#t I'm terrible with mould lines thanks PDH. I will probably ditch the bolterNyway as I think it is too synonimus with the original model and I might still change the back pack but considering he was an afterthought at 2am I'm pleased with what I found when I woke up this morning

Had a chance to do a little more this morning. Really pleased with the last fella, the corpse cart is an under rated treasure trove of to scale hands.

I'm still on the fence on using cultist bodies for my gang. Their scale feels ever so slightly too big so they tend to stick out slightly.

Does anyone have a recommendation for sci fi zombie parts. The gw ones are laughable

Overall I'm really pleased with the build, I still need to do the scales which I think I will complete using liquid GS this time. I am especially happy that when the speargun isn't loaded it looks for all intensive purposes like a scatter cannon. Until I paint him I therefore have a choice as to how to arm him. I hope to play test both to discover which I prefer, I have never run Scavvys so clueless at the moment.

That brings the gang size to 15. Rough calculations say that that should be about right. Damn Scavvys are cheap I have struggled to model enough to fill the points!

almost all the parts are from the plague cart kit, the bodies ae from the zombies that pull it along but he heads, arms and replacement feet have all been extracated from the zombie pile that sits in the cart. They aren't perfect and still need greening but I can't help but feel that they are an improvement on the existing kits out there. Considering the popularity of zombies in wargaming and geek culture I am amazed at the lack of quality kits and parts in existence, it seems like a no brainer to me.

Seeing these zombies makes me think of the zombies from Metal Slug 2, they are looking fantastic! It is strange there are almost no "really good" zombie kits out there, but it's probably because of the amount of "zombie types" you get these days. How do you make a good horde of shambling corpses when lots of zombies are just infected by a single bite?

that harpoon is awesome... can´t say it any way else...wow...the addition of the muzzle was the right decision...

also...I must applaud you for such creepiness... your conversion range among the haircurling list of my own on the top ten...ach... top five...some even have dream haunting potential...

the hook looks to me currently as my favourite mini...his composition is very sound...
the old man/hag with the autopistol...well...creepiness sure has been achived... but I am not that sure about the combined look of the body together with that head...but the autopistol conversion is pure win!!!

and I like the yarrick conversion... he reminds me now of an amalgam of yarick and kroenen...(the clockwork killer from hellboy...)

Two things in particular that stood out.

1 - Hook-hand is awesome. The photo you took also makes it look like he's about to come rip my throat out. That's just cool.

2 - While I am not a fan of the basic model, I really love the greening on the dreads of that bloated-belly zombie. The picture from the back makes me think Predator. That hair would make me buy that model, just to paint it.

The kit-bashing, in general, is very good but those two things are "stand out" modeling. Paint them!

Well I'm just heading back from a blistering first match with Beardlegend and his mate Olly.

My newly formed Scavvys braved the fire of the cult of redemption in their first match up and dispite inflicting a harrowing toll on the opposition (7 hangers out of action) the religious nutjobs just would not flee. Hatred is a bitch.

After passing 4 bottle rolls and hanging on by the skin of their teeth, I finally suffered 25% casualties at which point my gang promptly turned tail and ran. It was a hollow victory in the end for the redemption though as three gangers died including his deacon who rode his luck against the aim of my scaly and was speargunned into oblivion.

The table just before play

The gang are prepped and ready to roll out

Have to give a massive shout out to beardlegend for putting everything together. It was an excellent start to a night that will hopefully become a regular event. If anyone else is interested in joining us on Wednesday night's at borough market give me a bell.

So I decided that my two scaly models did not gel well together. As I had a spare few hours this afternoon due to beard legend getting locked into his own house I decided to have a go at modelling a replacement for my original.

It's still got a long way to go but the basic form is emerging. The head is the most challenging thing to find a suitable part for. I originally tried to model a death mask out of a skeleton head and a marauders chin. See below.

I then decided that scalys can't have beards, it just wasn't working. I liked what I had created though so tried a head swap with my leader who I had noticed sits a little short and diminuative compared to my other hangers.

Hmm so I am not sure at all about removing my leaders head. The trouble is I'd that his original face works great for both models. I think I will probably end up putting it back which leaves me with the same scaly head problem to solve all over again

These are some great scavvies, really nice. There are a lot of good scavvy conversions around! Using the corpse cart zombies is a great idea.

I would say the main thing when making scallies (even more than making them scaly) is to make them look stupid, and the head he has at the moment makes him look evil and cool, but not so stupid. Where are these chubby torsos from by the way?

The other problem is that your leader, with the winged helm, has started looking very Fantasy Battle. It's a good helmet but he has no obvious 40k identifiers on his front, it might work well with a bionic eye, some tubes or if he held a pistol.

The only model I don't like is the tall man, just because I think the guts hanging out looks pretty fatal, and it blurs the line between a scavvy and a zombie. I think he would look great with his guts greenstuffed back in.

nathanie1's workstation - Pitslaves 2.0 @ 2014/05/01 23:38:52

Post by: nathanie1

@ Bruticus thanks dude. the chubby bodies are Kromlech I think, fat ork torsos. You are bang on with the leader, I now need to choose whether to give him his own head back from the Scaly or fashion him something completely new.

The tall man isn't finished, I need to patch his guts up and fill in the exposed bone on the limbs, I have just used the parts to get his shape right. I have also already cut a lot of his hair off and I may just make him bald.

Im pleased with how much the Scalys are now looking similar though. This should help tie the gang together.

I finished off the replacement mini for my a Scaly 'Thumb' today and took Bruticus's advice giving my leaders head a bionic eye to try and "unfantasy" him. Il take some photos at some point to post up.

I also started looking into Mordheim as the gaming group I have just started playing with have talked about playing it. It's a system that I am not too familiar with, (only played it a few times as a kid) so I am a little confused trying to work out the different warbands. There seem to be loads, including things like Norse. Does anyone know are there core and unofficial fan armies that have been added to most modern additions or were there always about 20 warbands to choose from?

Looking forward to seeing them painted as well I always found scavies a bit cartoony as far as models and conversions go however yours seem to have captured the mutation aspects but added a creepy side to it which I love.

I know Bructis mentioned the rotten gut being a bit over the top but personally I like it, almost as if there mutation is causing disastrous effects exploding boils and skin ruptures.

Today's work was a little rambling and incoherent. Firstly I had yet another head merrygoround. The original faces I had ordered for my scalies arrived and although I enjoyed the fact that the smaller heads made them look bloated, the new ones created a more reptilian look and tied the two models more closely together. I doubt it will be a popular change with some of you but it did free my scavvy king head back up to go on my leader where I kind of feel it belongs.

After that I tackled the long burning issue in my head of how to build chaos marauders that don't suck massive balls, here is the first attempt, my very own lord of bones

Finally as I was sorting through my bits box I came across this guy, I have been toying with what to do with him for ages, It so happens that over the weekend I was looking through some of my very VERY old white dwarfs (remember that magazine?) and found some awesome genestealer hybrid art so I thought I would start turning him into a cool magus.

Still plenty to go. If anyone knows any good hybrid resources throw them my way. I can't face the idea of starting another whole army but maybe a kill team? Regulars here will know my knowledge of 40k is pants. What kind of points makes a kill team? If I had a psyches, a squad and something like a sentinel and ran them with guard rules would that be enough?

Any who so that's a bit of Munda, a bit of WFB/ mordheim and a bit of 40k, hopefully something for everyone.

Nathanie1 out

The scavvies are looking great. I think the new heads work for the scallies, maybe they would look even more lizard like with the ears shaved off? I think they were slightly cooler models with the previous heads, but this way they do look truer to their name and fluff.

The marauder looks great but the feet don't quite work, the boots are too modern looking. I did a similar conversion for my mordheim gang and just added a flappy bit around the top of the boots, that or fur ought to work well.

You could just use the magus for necromunda. There are some genestealer rules around the place (I wrote some myself that are OK).

Is the torso from the beastmen ? also is that a forgeworld renegade arm I see there as well ? and lasty can we see the other arm please.

I still think it was a great idea to use those Kromlech Ork bodies for the scavies I might borrow that for something similar if you don't mind

I also agree that the sword looks like an actual kit piece rather than a conversion piece, however how big is that thing

Thats very kind of you mate but no need thanks I have about 4 sets of the dam things I bought some for a project that has yet to get off the ground ( shut up Vik )

But I might try one out on an idea which will be easier than doing 7 different minis Any way I want to see you do more with them

Once again thanks for the kind offer

Today I'm putting some time in on my daemon Prince. I don't know how long I have been tinkering with this miniature for but it is turning into my opus.he has been through so many changes and I'm just lucky that all the things that I have tried have not caused any permanent damage to the core section of the model

Today I tried my hand at scratch sculpting for the first time. After attaching the daemon sword to the arm through pinning, I decided that building a claw around the grip of the sword was the best chance I had to make it look like it was being held properly. This is still a WIP but I have achieved a basic shape and for my first ever attempt I'm pretty pleased with how it is going so far.

The camera seems to throw the scale of the sword off a little, all I can say is that when I view it in real life it does not look over sized.

Now I see what the sword was for nice work once again, the hand has turned out well but loving the tubes out the back really gives the model more character

Post by: nathanie1

@Dr H - thanks. I've cut it down slightly now the GS has hardened so the fingers are looking less like sausages, it's very much learn as I go but the larger scale is giving me some leeway.

@LDD - cheers, yes the vents have helped massively on the back section, I just have to make a decision as to whether I add more or not.

nathanie1's workstation - Pitslaves 2.0 @ 2014/06/04 06:36:38

I personally would not add anymore vents as it might over crowd the model, the balance looks right to me but thats just my opinion

@LDD - TRUE, in fact I have removed one vent and he looks better so I think your gut on the issue is correct.

@ Vik - I think this may just be an issue with the colour change on the photos but I have not looked at that area for a while so will check it out, cheers for pointing me in a direction

First layer of paint is on.

It's an interesting model to paint. A mixture of fairly large mono colour areas and then some very density packed fiddly detail. Now the base colour scheme is done I am fairly happy. May try and lose some of the green from the skin and push even paler but it's a slow process so I am going to have to take my time

Hey all, I've been assisting in Bath all week so have been away from the hobby bench but itching to get back and carry on with the various projects. I've ordered myself some tools and tube makers from Masc mini and I think its really going to expand what I can have a crack at!

Currently I have go finish basing and painting the plague bearers that surround my Prince, then I want to get my scavvy e's painted before my Escher parts arrive from the TGG kickstarter.

There is also the ongoing mystery of how to build my marauders, I have been getting massively into Hannibal the TV series recently and would love to build a marauder and beastmen cohort based around antler and stag Iconography. That's the big project along with my marines to allow me go start to play

Hey all, it's proving to be one of those periods of time when all you want to do is hobby but everything else gets in the way.

Few bits and Bob's though. First up my contemptor featured a few pages back is on eBay. Item number 111398224434. If you are interested check it out.

In terms of hobby the only thing that's been happening is I managed to sneak in a gang fight with beard legend last week. It provided the regular amount of carnage and mayhem. Smiler my two headed scavvy managed to remain unwounded despite being hit by 3 heavy stubber rounds and 3 boltgun shells only to be taken out when he closed in by a stub gun.... He died. I've included some pics below. I almost rolled beard with sheer force of numbers but made the mistake of hunkering down when I reached hard cover in the centre of the board rather than continuing the charge. I was then whittled down to a bottle roll that, classic scavvy style, I failed.

So, after a while away filming and catching up with various non modelling projects this week I finally got round to some gaming. Oli and Beardlegend headed over and we got a good afternoon of gaming in. It was standard fair, Oli lost several Gangers in what is becoming an alarmingly regular occurrence, my Scavvys outshot every other gang, so many sixes and Beards ridiculously hard Juve Loki caused mass carnage.

Oli has also knocked out some cool terrain that I thought I'd post as he is not on here and, well, I just really like it

In amongst the exploding weapons, bottle rolls and drawn combats though, I realised that , although I enjoyed playing games with my scavvy gang immensely, I missed the experience of playing as a non outlawed house. I wanted to have territory, role on rare trade and onleash with a heavy stubber.

As a result I have started a new gang, Escher were the first gang I owned when munda came out so it seemed fitting to return to the source.

I had everyone I needed apart from a suitable leader model so I set about fixing that problem today

Apologies for the camera perspective making the las pistol look massive, I can assure you all it is nicely to scale. Still a few bits to fix, only using the central hair strand from the dark elf model made her look less extreme and more punky but my attempt to cover the bald gaps on either side hasn't really worked, I will have to lay down strips rather than the rake effect to make it fit with the rest of the hair I think. In general though I'm pretty happy, she is nice and dynamic which will stand her out from the other gangers

Anyway we play on Wednesday so I only have 24 hours to get her and everyone else ship shape, its going to be a rush.

That second heavy is looking really good! Very tank girly i think. GW needs to have more female models that arent overly elfy and thin and whatever. I feel like if I was going to add a female to an imperial guard army she would look more like that model you made right there.

@vik - I originally played with her smoking so it's weird that you said this, I will look into it.

@roguewolves - thanks chief, completely agree there is a lack of good non-barbied female miniatures out there. I backed the toughest girls in the galaxy kickstarter but won't see any minis until September.

@LDD - thanks man, as always your critique is useful. Tbh I do not know how to get a smooth finish on my putty work. I smooth it as much as possible with water during the process but I can't seem to replicate what I see others manage on here.

Yes I feel particularly smug about the sword hand, it came off well.

Yes it's a maxmini body, there is a new gaming shop that has opened in bromley so I suddenly have access to other miniature companies products, it's a steep learning curve but there is some really cool stuff out there!!!

As to the smooth finish what do you use as a sculpting tool ?

If you look at CMDante tag you see the rubber tipped brush looking things in the right hand the corner great for getting a smooth finish easy to find online or local art shop

I believe they are pastel brushes or something but easy to find, they come in several sizes and shapes I find the smallest and mediums sizes work best, also they have 3 stiffnesses white, grey and black white being the softest and black the hardest.

I mostly use black but the other 2 can be useful also I used the flat head and rounded tipped mostly, there are a couple of other shapes which I have but use rarely hope it helps.

Also have you tried varying your GS mix depending which way you mix it ( more blue or yellow ) alters the consistency which works in different ways might help.

I really like the idea of making an Escher gang with a mix of 3rd party and official bits, I've been eyeing some of these 3rd party sites with half a similar plan. I think some of the Toughest Girls stuff would work too with some converting, maybe some Witch Elf parts... there are certainly more possibilities than there were a few years ago.

I think your GS work looks good mostly, maybe it's just the leader's boots in that first pic that look really lumpy. I found that using liquid GS and then sanding helped me get a smooth finish, but you need especially fine sanding stuff. The rest of the gs is really sharp.

I like the leader's punk hair but I am not so keen on that face sculpt, it's a bit 'animated series'. A bionic eye might help. The heavy looks cool, nice club

So it's been an odd week of wargaming, Oli sent me a ransom note through the post for my juve that he had captured. I didn't put two and two together and called the police....

The actual rescue mission was a blast, very sneaky and tense, after the alarm eventually sounded three of my four strong rescue party were immediately blown away leaving only my leader. She went feral and slaughtered 3 gangers in hand to hand, it took two dowsings of prometheum to finally force her down.

The good times of Wednesday night's campaign were carried over into today when Oli and Beard came by for an afternoon of kitbashing. We all had our projects, Tony is building an NPC gang of arbites for the campaign out of the scions sprue, Oli pinned and GS filled his delaque ready for painting, I was going to assemble 50 mantic zombies ready to play the escape from the pit mission but I never got round to buying them so I carried on working on my chaos Lord.

I like switching between fantasy and Munda/40K. I find whichever system I work on allows me time and clarity for thinking about the other. Whilst building my Escher I have been knocking about this idea of a Mounted Marauder Lord. Its all very rough early stages but I am happy how he's turned out so far. I hated cutting up the games day champion model, it's one of my favourites but it had to happpen. I will have to buy another so I still have the original on foot

Ineptmule on yaktribe is putting together some very cool van saar using elysian drop troops. Anyway I got to thinking about who I wanted to have a crack with next and turned my attention to Goliaths. Really happy with how she has turned out so far. Obviously she is currently missing an arm. The body is from malifaux which is 32 scale so I had to do a lot of cut and shut to get her scale down to size but I think I have hot away with it. Just need to decide what to do with her other limb

@ Logan - Thanks mate, the model is Vanessa by Malifaux, her scale is wrong though so I shortened her by about 4mm which wasn't hard as her legs were ridiculously long

@ Radu - Thanks for the positive comments, I have ripped the mount up now and will be trying something new, I was trying to make a chaotic stag like creature but he looked like an anteater

@ Dr h - as always thanks for the thumbs up

@ Boba - The head is from the marauder horsemen kit. Chaos marauders are my no 1 kit for GW to update, there is no good supply for bare chests that I can find and I am sick of shaving beast man torsos. With the sculpts they knock out these days they could do something really special.

@ Kencotter - Where are you based mate?

I managed to finish him off last night, a few changes, tweaked his shield, changed the arrows, added some strapping for his shoulder guard and a few more trinkets bits and bobs...

Whilst I was waiting for green stuff to harden I starting bashing another bodyguard, anyone who has read the beginning of the blog may recognise the miniature as one of the first that I posted on here, I have started to "un-chaos" him and try and make him more like a pit fighter....

NICE!!!!

Both look great the first guy (use the term loosely ) is a clever combination of bits, the door as a shield has to be the best part though

I could just imagine his human counterpart saying " don't you think you need some kind of shield for cover ? after all you do kind of stand out " then he just rips the door of its hinges and saids "shield"

Where is his sword from by the way ?

I remember this other chap from the early days and you have managed to reconstruct him effectively, the pose is great and he definitely has a pit fighter vibe about him.

How about cleaning it up a little take of some of the scrap pieces, but keeping the top section as it is, that way it could look more Empire clean lined but still in keeping with the ogre aesthetics

Quite a lot done today, I had to build a second Escher flamer for our campaign (two juves with specialist and no more heavies)

I don't really like building models for gaming reasons and would have given this model a different gun if I had complete free choice but I managed to model a weapon slender enough for the miniature

I then found some redemptionist metal bodies in my box and thought I would start doodling around. 7 hours later I had cut up two Forgeworld miniatures....

Is this the necromunda version of a batleth?

Here is the priest, I like the head but he doesn't look grand enough so may have to replace it with something bigger and pointier

As always all comments welcome.

todays workload, mandatory flamer, a third zealot and the start of a new priest, I have stuck his head slightly too far forward by accident which makes him look a bit old and craggy. I may try moving it back so he is more upright but I quite like it.

Post by: nathanie1

@gianlucafiorentini - cheers, it was hard to cut the model up as it is a beautiful sculpt but I am glad I did

I got close to finishing my Redemptionists for the upcoming outlanders campaign today. It involved a fair amount of head swapping but I think everyone is where they are meant to be now, although I may change my mind again by tomorrow.

First up my Priest

I changed pretty much his whole load out, gave him a more ornate head and a shotgun on his back. I am particularly pleased with the massive sword held in cruciform as it makes him look more Bishop-like and important

I did love his previous head which found a place on my flamer Decon.

I was not happy at all with my previous flamer (pictured somewhere above in the thread) so I kit bashed this guy. He took a long time, lots of parts and it is always difficult trying to get a gun held across the torso of a body that was not sculpted for that purpose as you have to feth around with its shoulders and it can be a nightmare for it to look right. In the end I am really pleased with him and he is probably one of the most complex conversions I have managed to date

However sometimes simple is also cool...

Gun swap, sculpted hand, done.

The body that had been my flamer found a new role as member of the brethren

and I finally overcame the difficulty I was having with some of the other crusaders. Due to already having a bunch of genocidal zealots in the group, I really wanted to arm my crusaders with basic weapons. However, most of the torsos are not designed to hold guns with two hands and when I modelled a basic weapon being held in just one it looked really bizarre and unbalanced. So I played around for a while and found that cutting the barrels down on a few weapons gave a nice aesthetic whilst still clearly representing the weapon they are meant to be. Below are my two other brethren, armed with a shotgun and an autogun

I need to neaten up the hand on the shotgun ganger and crete strapping for the shotgun across my Priests back but aside from that they are pretty much complete, green stuff and all. I wish i felt the same about painting as I do about making....

Religion and shotguns ha that sounds like a band crazy as it is they look great but my favourite has to be the flamer the combo of parts really work well.

@LDD - cheers dude, haha they will always be guard as far as I'm concerned too, none of these fancy shmansy new names

The final addition (apart from a crusader who is soaking in detol before being glued) are some novices. It was hard to get excited about these guys as the body poses are pretty awful, but I have managed to cobble together a couple that I find acceptable

And that brings me to 12 models (thirteen once the last one is stripped) More than enough to carry me through a campaign.

Yes it can be a bit harsh I use rubber gloves and an old toothbrush and in the garage with the door open, I have used dettol on some old resin buildings which on whole worked except a couple of tough spots.

Sorry, late to comment here but that Mordheim ogre is the tits. I think you could remove the spike from the shield perhaps, as it looks a bit too cluttered and it slightly detracts from the improvised nature of the weapon, but overall it's just great.

Your Escher are also great, and I think the Redemptionists probably will look amazing painted up but it's a bit hard to get a feel for them at the moment. The goggle/flamer guy is awesome though, you should paint his beard and hair all singed (and drill the barrel).

@Bruticus - thank you for the kind words. I agree about the shield in many ways, it just felt very flat but maybe I should have been brave and left it. I will try and get some paint on some miniatures, I'm terrible for it

I like a muted palette so this works for me, the redness of the fire just adds the touch of colour to draw you in which is a good trick to use.

The only thing I would suggest is maybe changing the colour of his gloves, maybe a brown just to break up the run of black but still keeping it dark ?

CheerS LDD. I know what you mean about the gloves., there were that colour before and just stuck out too much, I'm kinda diggin the all black look but will keep playing with the colours as I paint the rest of the gang, if I find an alternative I can always go back and update him

Here is a pic in slightly better light, and a couple of the next ganger

@ PDH - thanks, I find painting generally a frustrating experience. One day i will find someone who loves to paint but hates kit bashing and together we will be unstoppable.

I was bumming around Yaktribe last week and got excited by the various enforcer rulesets available. I also recently watched Dredd and Robocop so everything seemed to be suggesting I try and build some of the Hives finest.

Unfortunately I am a bit stuck as I have run out of parts. If anyone has any Scion legs they would like to swap for literally any other scion parts, especially heads, or want to sell, then hit me up

Todays task is to add the trademark knee pads and toe ends, I'm a bit stuck on what to do for riot shields, I'm considering clear plastic as an option.

I would love to add a taurox transport for them and an Ogryn. This would also make them viable to submit on the thread of iron sleet which I just can't stop looking at because it is so full of win

nathanie1's workstation - Pitslaves 2.0 @ 2015/02/06 17:27:51

Post by: nathanie1

So I started the day finishing off details on my enforcers until I was forced to stop for lack of parts. Until the heads arrive they will have to be shelved.

I therefore found myself at a bit of a loose end. Talking to KingRedwart last night he was lamenting his difficulty in finding a suitable leader for his pit slaves so I thought I would be nice and try to make him one. I wanted him to look super big and super weird. I did not have an abundance of parts for him so quite a lot of cut and shut had to be involved, for a long time in the process I was really happy with how he was looking but towards the end I was not so sure and looking at him in the photos I am concerned I may have "jumped the shark" a bit

I really need to start logging images during the build so I have something to go back and look over. I think I like all the individual ideas (baby hand, spanner arm, back mounted mech etc) but at the moment they are almost distracting from each other.

Anyway I may rip bits off and move them around but essentially he is yours when/ if you want him Olly.

I had another look at him this morning and really wS not pleased with how he was looking. I stripped off the vestidual arms but it still was not right. So I removed a chainsword, swapped the arms over and changed the angle of the head to turn the direction of the miniature.

I think he is looking better, may clean up a few bits and bobs this afternoon but he is all pinned now so is pretty solid

So we have just begun a new campaign ("Raking it in" on Yaktribe) and now that the group is quite settled we are playing around with some added
dimensions in terms of game mechanics and narrative. Even simple ideas such as a hired gun pool that we all use together, bidding against each
other for their services has already added a fun new dynamic. Another idea we wanted to explore was having a 'forbidden artefact', an object that could
be passed between gangs randomly that give the gang both benefits and disadvantages.

The rules mechanic for this is yet to be locked down but I volunteered to write the fluff for the artefact and give a narrative for how it had found its
way down into the under hive. This was a task that I have then put off for the last two weeks, partly because I have not engaged in any form of creative
writing since junior school and therefore did not really know where to start.

Any who this week I have had a dreadful case of flu complete with fever and hallucinations and at some point during this process I churned out this. I really
enjoyed the process once I stopped worrying about sounding like a tit and it was a great distraction from how rotten I have felt. Ive sent it through to the
campaign editor as he gets final say on these things but I wanted to post it here as well in its unedited form before it gets chopped and changed to fit the
narrative

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to read it....

From the observation deck the planet seemed to hang suspended in the void, a dirty brown marble of rock, each hive appearing as an angry welt
upon its mottled surface. It had only taken the Telemachus three weeks to arrive in orbit since the signal had been picked up but the stress of the
wait had taken its toll on Pyke.

His jaw set as he stared at the planets surface. Ten years, was this really where it would end? Or were they too late again?

*******

It should have made their fortune, his, Grady’s, the whole crew. The hulk had ripped back into realspace directly in their path, the chances of such
an occurrence were as astronomical as the fortune that could be made from whatever she contained and it was in every fibre of Pyke’s nature to take
whatever chance the galaxy afforded him. His son would live off this haul for the rest of his life, Wyatt was too young to be living the life of his
father, this would change that.

Only there was nothing, 5 days of the exploration revealed no more than an endless expanse of empty deck halls, gantries and bunk rooms, so uniform
in their appearance that at times it would feel as though the crew were going in circles. And there was something else too, a stillness, stifling and
expectant, as though the air in every chamber had hung undisturbed for millennia and the simple act of walking through each space was a desecration
of its natural state. Eventually Pyke gave the order to cast off although the failure was bitter in his mouth.

The landing bell rang through the upper deck as the ship prepared to nudge her way through the acrid atmosphere above Hive Primus. Pyke blinked and
looked down at the thumbed pages of the book in front of him.

Grady’s Log

10.05.2nd Cycle. 2 days since we left her and everyone is still sore over the lost opportunity, you can feel the despondency in the air, like an extra crew
member. The Captain is in a fierce mood, this one has hurt him.

12.05.2nd Cycle. The crew are becoming increasingly restless. Talk of being watched when at work or alone is muttered in the mess hall. Pyke pays no
heed though. Pirates always have been superstitious by nature. The ships cat refuses to enter the hab blocks, instead he skulks and hisses in the empty brig

14.05.2nd Cycle. Troubling dreams experienced by several members of crew, of being pulled into a endless blackness, thick and warm and at the centre a
figure, pale and gaunt, calling without calling, a white willow in the void. I dreamt it too but said nothing. What can it mean? I conducted an external scan
of the ship to check for any outside interference, all signs normal.

18.05.2nd Cycle. The ships cat has gone missing. Bryce the cook swears he heard it spit and scream but found no trace on inspection. He says he will
murder anyone he finds that harmed it, We have plotted a course for the veil, time off ship will do everyone good.

22.05.2nd Cycle. The captains son has taken sick, his small frame wracks and spasms and his eyes stay wide open and unflinching, stricken and without
focus. The Captain sits with him day and night, no meds or stims seem to have any effect. Farley has moved most of the infirmary equipment to his quarters
and will take over the vigil. The crew mutter that we are cursed. Moral is low.

29.05.2nd Cycle.. a black day, the crew fought in the mess hall. Colton broke Bryce’s arm, saying he was whispering dissent in his sleep all night. Everyone is
struggling under a great weight, as if the air itself is thick like treacle.

31.05.2nd Cycle. Farley says nothing more can be done for the boy, He has moved all equipment back to the infirmary and locked himself inside, not being
able to help the lad seems to have taken its toll, crew are instructed to give him some time.

33.05.2nd Cycle. We have a miracle, Wyatt’s woken up, hungry but happy and with no memory of his illness or any events since we cast off. The crews mood
is lifted by his return and laughter rings out in the mess hall for the first time in days. Farley emerges briefly but claims he is feeling unwell, he worries that
whatever Wyatt fell with is contagious and requests that Pyke allows him to quarantine himself. We all agree this is the best course.

36.05.2nd Cycle. The oppression that held sway over the crew has returned and intensified. Colton and Vance report seeing “a pale shadow” move through
the Brigg on the observation monitors. A full sweep of the ship is ordered but nothing is found. Wyatt has complained that his trunk is missing from his room,
it probably got shoved in storage when the med equipment was piled in, but he seems oddly distraught about it despite insisting that there was nothing of
value inside. I went and asked Farley if he has it with him but he says he doesn’t. it was the strangest thing. As I approached the bay door I could hear him
deep in conversation, I opened the shutter hatch to see who he was with, after all, the man is quarantined, but he was alone and furthermore furious for the
interruption, says he was noting his condition, he looked like hell.

38.05.2nd Cycle. I pulled evening watch last night. I am not a man prone to flights of imagination. I have travelled further than most will ever dream and have
seen more things than a man has the right to in his life time. But last night I have no words for to explain. I was watched, I know not by who, or maybe I should
say by what, but I know that I was not alone. Something is here with us, now, on the ship. I reported to Pyke and he was savage with me, but I know he feels
it too. Ive spent my whole life following that man but this is the first time I have seen fear in his eyes. We cannot reach the Veil soon enough.

40.05.2nd Cycle. We are not alone. Colton went missing during the evening watch. No sign of him on every level. Crew are very rattled and captain has issued
a full curfew and paired duties at all times. Emperor protect us.

02.06.2nd Cycle. It’s over, I look back on my previous entries and shake my head that a man with my experience could be so shaken. Farley, the bastard, it had
all been him. We were woken by the alarm from the evening watch. Bennet and Henderson heard Farley shouting at someone from inside the sick bay, when he
didn't respond they forced their way in and he attacked them with a scalpel. He looked emaciated, like he had not eaten in weeks and he had mutilated his own
face and hands. He should not have been able to stand let alone put up much fight but it took four of us to eventually bring him down and he made a real mess
out of poor Bennet in the process. I have never known a man possess such strength. We found Colton’s body, broken and stuffed in a cupboard. I also found
Wyatt’s trunk. As soon as I moved to it Farley went berserk, screaming for me to get back and pulling at his restraints so hard he snapped his own wrists, so we
moved him through to the operating theatre where we could seal him off. This he found very upsetting, soiling himself immediately and blubbering that we “could
not take him away from it” Inside the trunk was various of the boys clothes and trinkets and unfortunately, the decomposing body of the cat. Pyke insisted that
he question Farley immediately but when the doors were opened we found the fool had swallowed his own tongue. We jettisoned the body immediately, no honours.
A formal burial for Colton will be held as soon as possible and hopefully we can put this godawful mess behind us.

03.06.2nd Cycle. I have found something in Wyatt’s hold chest, hidden under his clothes and linens. It is the strangest thing, a stone, small, unevenly shaped, oddly
warm to the touch, smooth and black and heavy. I have never seen anything like it. I have asked the boy about it and he says he has no memory of it whatsoever,
although he immediately asked if he could have it and got quite upset when I said I was keeping it for analysis. I can only presume he picked it up on the hulk, it
may well be ancient tech, or alien, some sort of navigational tool or lode stone. I am certain of nothing but that it has value. I don’t know why but I haven't reported
it to Pyke. I want to have a better understanding of what we have before I present it to him.

04.06.2nd Cycle. I have told the Captain that I need a rest day after Farley, He has consented. I have it now, in my hand. Its weight sinks into me, its strangely
comforting, and black, inescapably black, blacker than the void, black and warm and bottomless. I could almost fall into it, as if this outside world were merely a
precipice that we all cling to, but I could choose to let go and allow the the thick warm dark to swallow me up and cradle me. I find that I have stared at it so long
that I have missed the evening mess call but it is no matter. I feel perfectly comfortable just here, just as I am.

06.06.2nd Cycle. So black, so smooth, So heavy,. So smooth. And at the centre he is there, I see him now. The pale man, he whispers to me in my sleep. He knows
them all, he has been watching us. And he tells me, each secret a gift. Bryce has loaded dice for when we play cards, Vance once loved a girl on Perusia Minor but
she broke his heart so he joined a ship. Bennet wanted to be an artist before he lost two fingers in the mines on Baphael. All of their lives, one choice after another,
completely unaware of their insignificance, so easily snuffed out. So black, so heavy, so smooth and so heavy.

10.06.2nd Cycle.
HE SEES US ALL,
THERE IS NO MORE,
THERE IS NOTHING,
ONLY THE BLACK,
ONLY THE BLACK, ONLY THE BLACK, ONLY THE BLACK, ONLYTHEBLACKONLYTHEBLACKONLYTHEBLACKONLYTHEBLACKONLYTHEBLACKONLYTHEBLACKONLYTHEBLACK
ONLYTHEBLACKONLYTHEBLACKONLYTHEBLACKONLYTHEBLACKONLYTHEBLACKONLYTHEBLACKONLYTHEBLACKONLYTHEBLACKONLYTHEBLACKONLYTHEBLACKONLY

Pyke shut the log and sat back in his chair. The final moments played across his mind again. Waking up to the sound of the emergency generator kicking in. The footsteps
of the crew pounding down the main gantry to the Engine Room. His own laboured breathe as he vaulted the final landing and burst through the hatchway, Vance’s hacked
up body on the floor, he'd been the watch that night. Both engines hewn at, their delicate cores crippled and smashed. Then the scream, a long sad scream, the scream
of a child.

By the time he and the crew had made the journey across the ship the escape pod had already gone, his son lay in the centre of the deck. For a moment, to Pyke, he
looked asleep, his mind refusing to accept the information it was fed, the grey pallid skin, the steady flow of blood pooling around his little frame.

Later they would learn from the ships monitors that Wyatt left his room shortly before the alarm went off. What unseen force compelled him to do so Pyke would never
know but he made his way, still in his bedclothes, calmly down through the hold, past the brig and out to the loading bay. He was there when Grady arrived, he stood,
hand outstretched, demanding something from the man, the silence of the monitor feed could not remove the intent of the gesture. Then Grady stabbed him.

If it were not for the homing bead they would have never been able to chase him. All of Pyke’s crew had one so they could locate each others position using a central
mainframe on the Telemachus’s bridge, invaluable when exploring derelict vessels or when one of them ran in to trouble whilst in port. A small sensor embedded between
the skull and first vertebra, powered by the synovial fluid of the spinal chord, cheap, effective and unremovable. When the Telemachus finally limped into the Veil Grady
had already killed two guards who had attempted a stop and search and then made off on a transport bound for the Eastern Fringe. Pyke tried to dismiss the crew, the
plan was to trade in for a solo vessel, but none of them would leave. There was loyalty among thieves if you made things personal enough.

Then began a long protracted chase.

The lurching jolt of changing atmospheric pressures shook the Captain from his thoughts. He swiped across the control board and brought up the last image taken from
the feed, Grady, half way through the hatch, turning round, probably at the sound of the approaching crew. Pyke magnified the image then turned it on its axis. This was
the face he saw at night that made him fear his sleep, the gaunt pale skin, nostrils flared and lips curled cruelly, smirking as he looked back on what he was leaving for
them to find. But it was the eyes that stayed with Pyke. He would see them as he stared up from his modest bunk at his cabin ceiling, he would see them when he sat on
the bridge each evening, looking out into the endless night. Sunken like pools they seemed to rail against the rest of Grady’s face, for inside them, behind the mask of
cruelty, Pyke saw terror, pure raw terror, bleeding out from their pale prison, helpless and damned.

Below them the spires reached up like clawed fingers, groping out to pluck them from the sky. He was down there, even if the beacon hadn’t been steadily pinging as
they approached Pyke would have known, he could feel it through every fibre of his soul. Soon it would be over, soon he would come face to face with the only real friend
he had ever known, and he would kill him.

So there it is. I have a model already partly built to represent captain Pyke, He is going to be very much channeling Joel from the last of us in his general demeanour. When
we have solidified how we want the object to work with the different gangs I will post it up here for feedback and critique.

Got some game time and some modelling time in over the long weekend.

Cobbled together a new wyrd and a second pit slave boss for my own gang.

I have not done any Green stuff to either yet and the bosses shoulders look a little bare but aside from that they are pretty much there.

Pit slave boss is awesome, looks really chunky and solid. I just used that exact same flamer on the back of a fist idea.

The wyrd looks great but I'd consider a different head or adding a beard maybe, it's a good head but Eldar head + Eldar body = Eldar to me. Also I think the pistol doesn't work, it's huge and only Die Hard keeps his pistol on his back like that.

Yes pretty much what bruitcus said the Wyrd looks good but too Eldar needs something to alter the race a bit more. as for the pit slave boss has a nice balance to it all though the head seems a little small in comparison.

O yes the gun is way to large and looks out of place, I would go for some thing more revolver looking and with an oversized barrel (length not girth )

hmm, yes I agree on both counts. I will remove the gun, In terms of the head I like the hair so may do something like give him a beard, I will see what other options I have first.

Thanks for the feedback LDD and Bruticus, as always a real help

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Got a chance to do a bit more, started with a few simple swaps, changing the head on my Deacon to something more elaborate and giving the pit slave chief another buzz saw. the two saws and a flamer make me think he worked on an agri world felling forests

I then went about kit bashing the rest of the gang. note no green stuff yet

I don't know how many pit slaves make up the average gang, I will build another pit fighter and pit slave and that should be enough to start with.

A few more tweaks today to the new gang. I wanted to make my chief and the female slave a bit more human. The skulls are meant to be helmets but I am not convinced it reads well. So I tried some hair on the boss and I changed the female slaves head completely. She is my least favourite of the group at the moment so I will probably change her again at some point.

I then set about my task of adding another slave to give me the choice of an extra pit fighter or techno. I am really pleased with him. It has been difficult to capture on screen but he has a lot of movement without looking over the top. I also managed to use the old summer torso and head which is one of my favourite sculpts however the model is tiny (GW scale creep) so it is nice to give him a new lease of life

I had just about enough time to finish off by getting the hard yards done on another techno. I added the top knot to stop him being confused with a delaque but it gives him a MadMax vibe that I am really liking.

Gang is almost there. Not bad for a day and a half work.

OK lets get the negatives out of the way first starting with those skull heads, to be honest it does not work it seems out of scale to the body and throws the proportions of because of it, have you considered using the top section of a larger skull and adding the bottom jaw from a normal head to create a skull mask ?
I dont know if it would work for you but might give the impression of a helmet rather than just a skull, the rest of the model look spot on which seems a shame to throw it off with the head or you could use the skull mask from the chaos warrior set.

Now the female slaver the first head has the same issue as the above so see why you changed that, however the second seems oddly angled and slightly longed neck but not sure if there is still some GS work to do though

The Deacon fething Rocks love everything about it the head, arms, flamer and embellishment actually I like it so much I want a complete list of bits used so I can copy it (if you don't mind that is ) as I want my own version of this for my RH Nuns with guns gang leader

Liking the firing guy with Vic breather mask could do with some kind of bionic frame added to one of his legs just to emphasize, however he looks pretty cool anyway as is.
Now the other 2 light grey resin guys ( who are they made by the way I thought they may be Sulphur miniatures ? ) the first one is kind of straightforward and looks ok but I do prefer the movement you have created in the second guy even down to the arm positioning replicating the swinging motion

I really like the techno guy with the ripsaw arm and his leaning motion nicely done, but the last guy although quite a simple conversion is another idea I have to borrow as it is so Mad Max that must be in my PA group love it what arms have used on him by the way ? can't tell from that angle

I really like the skull head for the pitslave boss, although I liked it more in the previous iteration. I think it is too small for a mask, but it would look great as a bionic head. Maybe add a few cables going in to it.

I also preferred the skull head on the female fighter, but again, it was too small to be a mask. I think with some cables added she would look really sinister and have loads of character - it's 40k after all, you can be a skull-headed pincer-clawed half-naked pitslave vixen, if I was redoing my pitslaves I would add more of this sort of grimdark weirdness. The new version looks a bit too conventional, and the neck is a bit off.

The final model with the shotgun works very well.

Some great stuff in here, I really like the pit slave gang, the leader looks great. I do have to agree on the skull heads though, the one on the leader seems a little small to me. The mad max guy is a nice conversion, I have been looking for something to do with that guy, are they scion arms with a scout shotgun by any chance?

@LDD - Thank you for the feed back, both the positive and constructive. taking it all on board

@Bruticus - cheers. I liked the skulls too and your right I will go back and have another look at the girl.

@C Lion - cheers for the feed back. Yes they are scion shoulder pads with marine scout arms

@Salvage - thanks for the possitive words. My painting is notoriously lax but I hope to please.

It is interesting the feedback on the size of the skull. The torso is massive. I have found in the past with oversized models (Scallies etc) that keeping the head to regular scale gives the impression of a large and bloated character. If you scale the head up to the size of the body then it just looks like a model that is a different scale to 28mm. The skull head he has is already the size of a marine helmet.

I have tried to take the feedback on board firstly with the female slave.

I tried lots of stuff including changing the angle of the head and it's possition, but in the end went back to the skull taking The given advice of 'embracing the grimdark'. I added the headdress to tie her a little more to other members of the gang and to try and make it more obviously a helmet.

With my chief. The skull feedback was pretty strong do here is something different, the visor and top knot keep that 80's thunderdome feeland the hair hopefully takes it suitabley away from looking like an Ellysian. I like my ladders to have faces not masks so it also adds a bit of humanity.

I might be brave and remove his legs as his feet are very nurgley.. Yes that is a word.

Wow the transformation of the female slave is unbelievable it was not a miniature I was feeling at all but now she really captures my interest

The repositioning of the head looks correct and the simple addition of the head dress pulls the concept together perfectly loving it now.

Also the the leader or at least I think that's what you meant (pretty sure ladder was not intentional) is looking so much better and balanced, yes the head is still smaller than the body but does not look lost within it.

The hair piece helps alter the origins of the head but maybe a little GS to the front top action might be an idea, make the 2 rectangle plates into 1 piece and a some small rivets perhaps ?

Either way all looks great mate and a vast improvement, as to the feet maybe remove one and add a Killa kan foot or scratchbuild something similar.

@LDD - Yes you are right the head needs a little more to take him away from being an Elysian, those are good suggestions. they all need cabling added and I made a load yesterday using the tube tool so hopefully it will be hardened enough to attach today. thanks for the continued feedback it really helps.

So, I managed to sell my realm of battle gaming board on eBay for a good chunk of money and decided to reinvest the cash into the raw materials for my very own board.

King Redwart posted some cool terrain links for inspiration and in the end I settled for a foam board that I could cut into so I could make a sewer system and a sump.

I have always loved the idea of a big chem pit, ever since the necromunda articles in white dwarfs showed gangers fighting amongst dripping pipes and pools of green ooze. If I was going to make my own board a sump had to be a part of it

I started off by building the wooden box that will essentially be the chasis of the board. It's light and durable and when the trestle hinges arrive from eBay (can't get trestle hinges at homebase or B&Q, wtf?) It will fold in half with the board protected on the inside

The central beams of wood are slightly shorter than the outside sections....

The plan is to fill the trays with an expandible foam up to the height of the thinner central beams. This should mean the whole board is one level surface that I can then cut down in to to create the sump pool and the sewer system. It also means that the're will be a 2cm lip of wood running around the outside of the board to keep dice on the table and create some breathing space when the board is closed so the two terrain surfaces do not squash and damage each other.

Up to this point everything has been going well, my general lack of experience has not cost me in any great way, everything measures right and fits firm.

However I have just tried to "fill" my board with expandable foam.

So for a start it was the stickiest stuff on earth and exploded everywhere when I first punched the nozzle. Then after about 15 seconds the can was empty! In a panic that it might ruin the board I have scraped it all in to one corner and I am now perenially prodding it suspiciously. The can said it can be sanded once dry which made me think it was ideal but I have got such a small yield from it I am going to have to find an alternative.

So chaps I need advice. I need somyhing I can fill the box I have built! It has to be very light but sturdy enough that it can 've leant on once the board is complete. I am nervouse about bobble pollystyrene but maybe there is an alternative that I am unaware of?

Yeah pink or blue foam, you can get it from antenocitis workshop posted I think. Cut it with a bread knife. I think you could use cheaper foam if you were careful about leaning on it and coated it in something though. Lightweight polyfila is good stuff, will protect the foam from spray paint or sump resin too.

Table looks cool so far.

Yes basically what they both said however go to B@Q check there out side storage section, there they have large packs of this insulation foam board it's an orange/pinky colour.

Now this can be cut and shaped and due to the size of these sheets should fit well into the sections with spare for adding levels if you wish, these could be stand alone pieces that are placed on the main board.

Anyway good luck mate if you need more info let me know as my pack still has the original packing on it still.

Spent most of the day getting an even and flat surface before cutting in the sewer system. It was a very satisfying process and now that the basic shape is in place I feel much more confident that it won't inhibit terrain deployment as much as I thought. A mesh platform will go over most of the pit so it won't be a hamper in the corner either.

On the way home from our regular club night, Alobar and I were spitballing different terrain feature ideas and he mentioned fans. This has got me thinking it would be cool to have some built in to the floor, mostly covered with mesh grating but won where the cover is torn through so we can have a fan hazard like every good James Bond film

Nice work on your various little people.

I would have said that expanded polystyrene is usable as a base if you give it a coating of plaster to protect it and give a stronger surface. This is what I did on my recent UFO crash piece.

However, what you have there appears to be working fine. Keep at it.

@ Dr H thats really cool, very inspiring stuff. I am looking forward to getting down to the detail work on the board, rubble, corpses, tentacles etc.

Alobar over on yaktribe came over this morning to do a few test games before I apply polyfiller and making changes becomes more difficult.

I was really pleased with the way it played, the river did not effect building layout in any way and I even managed to knock his leader into the drink which was very satisfying.

I am really tempted to cut in some much narrower trenches throughout the board, these would allow gangers to move short distances without worrying about the high BS overwatch that always plagues our longer campaigns and they could easily be covered if not wanted during a match.

I have to decide by tomorrow afternoon so will get my thinking cap on.

That board is going to be ace to play on. Trenches, holes and fans (gotta be fans on all good necro boards) all sound perfect. The necro buildings can probably bridge smaller trenches anyway without effecting stability too much.

I played another couple of games on the board with KingRedwart on Yak this morning, we both bemoaned the difficulty of getting people in to hand to hand combat after gangs start getting significant shooting increases, I told him about my initial plans for building trenches in to the board and with a little nudging that it would work we sketched out where they would go and before I knew it I had cut them out

The point Red made was that if they are narrow enough they could easily be covered laying down plasticard. He also mentioned that I could place walkways along the sump canals to encourage people to walk along them, using the raised bank as cover.

I was thinking about that idea later and I thought of a plan that would maybe make such gantries have more than one use. If I put the gantries on hinges they could be laid down to make a walkway or raised to make railing walls along the sides of the canal giving fighters more cover

Taking this idea further, when applied to the narrower trenches the gantries would probably fold down to create a complete cover so building could be placed over the trench and they would not effect terrain placement, but in clear areas could be raised to again give more cover and allow access to move models through the trench system.

top down view

I don't know if this idea can be practically realised, or even that I have explained it clearly enough to make sense to anyone. I will need to find some small hinges that only fold out 180 degrees first and give it a test, but I like the idea of incorporating something to the board that can be used for several purposes

It's been a strange few months. The release of AoS and apparent death of Warhammer fantasy sent quite a few people at my gaming group into damage control, desperately trying to buy as much as possible before it potentially dissapears forever.

Personally I am not so worried, I have no interest in playing AoS but I have faith that the new models will provide an exciting new source for kitbashing 8th ed armies. I am already tempted to make a khorne force from the bloodbound stuff.

I could not help but get pulled along with everyone starting/ adding to / completing their armies so I decided to reinvigorate my empire army which was a project that never really left the runway. I kicked things off today with a battle standard and a unit of handgunners.

I spent a long time positioning the unit, I like trying to include little stories in the posing of the models, I am particularly pleased with the guy reaching to grab the monkey. I also had a lot of fun kit bashing the halfling, I need to get hold of some other knoblar bodies to see if this is something that would work well enough for me to try and produce a unit or at least a halfling hotpot

Our gaming club is changing location and starting a Nordheim campaign, I tried to throw as much together today as possible, as a result its even more cut and shut than usual at the moment, lots to fill in and smooth down.

Most of you have probably seen Bruticus's undead war band on ex profundis (if you haven't you are doing it wrong). Any way here is my effort.

That vampire is brilliant. I have to admit I'd really like to see what it would look like with the head facing to the other side, the wing thrown up behind like a theatrical vampire cape.

I love that chaos cultist head for a fantasy model, I've just done that myself. Something very satisfying about sneaking 40k bits into fantasy.

I have to say, I think round bases are superior for skirmish games.

How are your pitslaves doing? We have similar tastes in what gangs we choose.

@Bruticus Cheers bud. The head was facing that way originally but can't get it to work in that direction along with his armour. He is not quite right though yet, may reassemble and see if I can get him at his best. I am a big fan of the bat face that was salvaged from part of the corpse cart chassis so I want it to be fully visible.

As a man who sneaks fantasy into 40K at every opportunity, yes it is fun when there is the chance to get it working the other way round

I would have gone round too but I may use the characters for fantasy so wanted to keep them square and then followed suit with the rest for consistency

the pits laves never really took off. could not get my leader right and then my Redemptionists became very fluffy and fun to play in the campaign, as a result the slaves are on ice for now. Also there was another player who has made some awesome slaves. You can check them out here

I tinkered around with the vampire taking on Bruticus's suggestions

I changed the shoulder armour to something less bulky, i found the wings on the hips of the wight King I am turning into a questing knight, it aloud me to turn the head and it came with a cool key that went perfectly over the chest

I also started work on the guals, I wanted them to look more solid and muscular so I changed out the torso and biceps for a plague bearers

I am pretty pleased with the result, the back would have gone together perfectly but I was over zealous in my snipping so I had to green stuff

I am going to have to go back and see how this works with some more scares after this

Don't know what I was thinking when I came into the thread. I seriously thought there would be an undead hooker . Lover the vampire conversion......wait he looks like he's a vampire pimp giving the undead ho a back hand/wing.
