Last time was kinda of a false start. However I have broken out the brushes again and started practice on something easy #(Zombicide Zombies.) The new girlfriend is even getting involved and helping me crack through the box.
Hope you are all well.

How have you been?

Doing fine, staying busy. I had to intervene when our dogs started fighting, and ended up with stitches in my painting hand, so that's slowed me down somewhat.

That sucks mate, hope you heal up soon.
I may have torn the ligaments in my non painting hand while doing judo. So we can start some kind of club.

Sounds like a plan.
Managed to put a bit of paint on some Zombicide zombies and the dwarf character today before the hand hurt too much. Not a whole lot of progress but progress is progress. Also found a 40k ork stashed among other stuff and felt like painting it so started on that fella too.
Not much and nothing finished but its a start.

Sounds good. It's always good to find something you want to (rather than feel obligated to) paint.

Good stuff. Nice job with the colour palette, it took me a second to realise those big chaps were duplicates.

Cheers mate, trying to mix it up so they don't all look too alike.
Drafted the GF in to help paint the horde.

They need matt varnish and blood but these are done now.

I may be getting thoughts about an Inquisition themed force for 40k with the Eisenhorn miniature coming out later this month.
So that might get worked on after zombicide, also picked up the Start collecting Skitari box to go with it.

Great looking progress on those Zombiciders. They'll look great once dullcoated and bloodied up!

Im a firm believer that when batch painting zombies blood can cover a lot of mistakes.

Also looking to paint up an Inquisition band at the same time. No idea if playable but thats fine.
Means I can break out the odd random models I have, like an imperial guard solider, and a catachan sniper and paint them up together. Also gonna buy the Eisenhorn model later this month.

That's a very interesting mix of models. Don't you find it difficult to batch paint so many different things at once?

Zombicide is the priority atm. The others are nearby or in the queue for when I get bored of the Zombicide stuff and want to mix things up.

Yeah, it's just good getting the full Zombicide set done. Can't play with a half-painted set! Looking very good so far. Good balance between nice looks and getting it all done within a reasonable amount of time.

Cheers mate. I've nearly finished two more survivors leaving me around 10-15 models short of finishing the box. With the GF chipping in on the zombies I am aiming for an end of march finish.
Got a ligament injury in my left hand so right now I am happy with something looking ok and being done rather than trying to actively improve my painting.
However when my hand gets better looking forward to trying something in a whole new scale.
That fella came through the door today.

Two Zombicide survivors finished (Sans bases)
Also started an inqustion guard trooper mostly as a colour test. Needs more work though and the paint is a little thicker than I would like.

The survivors look nice. Are you going to give them a coat of anti-shine?
57098

They have had one but it didn't take down all the shine. Will hit them and all the zombies in one big batch probably.

Just a quick progress update on Zombicide.
Finished the Elf character. Not too happy with it but I am glad its done.
Down to the last 6 models left to paint
Two Survivors
A necromancer
3 Zombies left as seen in the empty spaces.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I dont know why attaching files makes them go sideways. But if you click on them you can see them the correct way up.

Those are some well-painted models, especially considering the material. Are you dipping them?
57098
Post by: carlos13th
I stared by dipping some of the earlier zombies but the later ones I’ve used the GW gloss shades on them. The hero models get a light highlight after the shade.
Think I overdid the shade on the elf however

Great work on the zombicide stuff . I haven’t tried the GW glosses yet, might be what I need since my armypainter dip all dried up on me.
Really dig the skelletor runner on the bottom row.
Did you get green horde? And what’s your thought on the Zombicide IN SPACE minus the zombies

Really couldn't resist skelletor zombie.
Skipped green horde didn't feel the need for another few Zombicide boxes.
Cant say the space one appeals to me. Would have preferred if they went full alien style and called it something other than Zombicide if I am honest.

I skipped GH initially, but late pledged for core box only. I wanted the giants, dragon and the war machines along with the Monty Python stuff. But since I late pledged it means I won’t see any of it till AFTER wave 2 is shipped.
I’m skipping the space one, ironically because I have no space.

Post by: carlos13th
If you don’t skip it you will have an abundance of space, almost too much space.
Yeah lack of space is something I’m struggling with too.

Got a bit burnt out on zombicide in the last stretch so started planning out a deathwatch paining and basing scheme as a test model before I start paining more.
I want to brighten the eyes, finish the shoulder pad and do the jump pack but I think the overall effect is solid in the end I settles on the snow base as I liked the contrast against the black.
Does anyone know why it posts attachment snap sideways ?

I bet your using an IPad or IPhone to take the pics. If your holding the phone/pad sideways then the coding does something screwy and the forum reads it the wrong way. I had similar problems for a while, but then I figured out which way I had to hold it so it would turn out correctly. Try it with the home button on the right hand side(I think, it might be the left) and see if it does it correctly. If not then turn it 180 degrees and try again.
Raven Guard guy looks great by the way

Post by: carlos13th
Thanks Theo will give that a go spot on that I usually use an I phone or pad for pics. Zooming in a little has made me see the paint is a bit thick in places but that’s all part of the learning process.

I think I’m probably calling this guy done.
My first dip into deathwatch ready for both 40k and kill team only a metric fuckton of models to go.
Also working on shadespire at the moment, hoping to get some Garrick reavers done soon.

I like him. Suitably dark with nothing flashy to give away the element of surprise .
Is that the GW snow effect on the base? I tried to buy some this week only to see the local FLGS and Miniaturemarket’s retail shop both out of it. How is it to work with?

Hey, long time no see. Nice work on that marine (Raven Guard?) The edge highlighting looks great-- I thought he was painted in metallics at first. Is that a smoke launcher on his jump pack?
57098
Post by: carlos13th
Thanks guys, this is my first time doing this kind of edge highlighting but I like it a lot.
It’s a raven guard model from deathwatch.i think he was from deathwatch overkill or something like that.
Not entirely sure what the pipes on top of the jump pack are for so I painted them a brassy colour to make them stand out.
The snow is GW snow. It is a really nice effect but is quite clumpy so can be difficult to place where you want it at times, I’ve been applying it with coffee stirrers which seems to work well enough but can’t help but feel a proper sculpting tool would work better. Highly recommended though, I think it offsets the Black well.

The “pipes” are grenade launchers. Since he is using power claws he cannot manually pull a pin or manipulate the grenade with his hands.

Thank you, I was not aware of this. I guess trying to grab the grenade off his back would lead to him losing a leg

Started painting again for the first time in ages. Advantage of injuring my foot and not being able to kickbox is that I have time to paint. Progress so far on Garrek’s Reavers posted below. Does anyone have any tips or good tutorials for highlighting weapons and faces I would be happy for the help.

Quick paint of some 3d printed Mordian to get back into the swing of things after a fair bit of time away.
Could do more on them and add some highlight layers but happy to call them done for now.
Next up should be a pair of crusader minis.

Touched up some details on the crusaders today and then used speed paints for the first time to quickly knock out the death cult assassins
Very much went a quick a dirty with the death cult assassins not wanting to spend much time on them especially cos the finecast details are not great and I wanted something just done

Decided to get together a photo of my imperial guard / agents ish force so far to see what I’m working with.
I think despite the very different uniforms the bases tie them together quite nicely. Temped to dirty up the Mordians a bit though.

Thats a nice infantry force you are building there. But the suggestion that the Mordians would have dirty clothing - thats heresy!!!
Impressive collectionof tanks - what is the small one by the baneblade and the one at the front of the four leman russes?

Kinda love the idea of the Mordians running through a trench but just coming out perfectly clean.
The little one at the front is a forgeworld centaur.
Legends / Unplayable now but I like the model.

It’s mostly Vallejo snow, some of them have some few Valhalen blizzard on them too but that stuff is way to expensive to do too many bases with.
The more dirty snow I’ve mixed a bit of the AK puddles product on the edges of the snow to make it look more dirty and disturbed. I can share some photos of the stuff I’ve used if it helps

Painted up a sentinel for the painting challenge for August. Topic was weathered so it’s covered in chipping and streaking grime.
Want to attempt something similar after watching some tutorials from scale models as I went at this very haphazard.
Check out the panting challenge for some superb weathering not just from wargames including a great boat
