So I have a Blood Bowl tournament coming up this weekend. One of my buddies is running it and he had to cap it and 60 people because the venue couldn't hold anymore. This is his second year running and we are both AMAZED he got 60 people (more actually, there is a wait list). We live in Va. and have people coming from as far as the Virgin islands. Pretty crazy. I have been working on my team for the event lately. Meet the Tzeentch Zappers led by Lord Borak. Chaos isn't the best blood bowl team... but they are a fun one!

I also picked up some of the new Warcry stuff yesterday. The Ogre cards really caught my eye and I had some Ogre models laying around the house so I started last night working on my warband. I normally don't do a lot of WIP shots here but that's exactly what these are. Not bad for a night / morning's work IMO. A couple small conversions, head swaps etc.

Not the greatest pics. I assure you I will take better ones once they are finished. There is a GW about 80 minutes from me that is having a warcry tournament in a few weeks. I may try to get these painted up and take them down there. I cant imagine Warcry being the best tourney game, but an excuse to play it all day sounds ok to me.

Best of luck with the tournament, the Chaos team looks great.

I too picked up the Ogre and OBR Warcry cards this weekend, a couple of sets of Feast of Bones I have for them will be great fodder for the war bands.

May I add that it is always fun popping into this thread just to see what you have been up to. Great stuff.

Great looking BB team. Depending on how the tournament is set up you play to win or play to cause casualties (which sometimes helps the first option to happen ).

So I am DMing my first game with our normal DM as a player and a couple of newer players as well. One of the new players doesn't even have any miniatures so he sent me his character sheet and I grabbed this model for him I had painted a month or two back. He is a dwarven fighter.

I also made a little progress on my Ogre Warcry Warband tonight. I am trying to have them painted for a tournament in appx. 2 weeks time. Again, I know I don't normally post a lot of WIPs but these are very much that.

The whole warband (got a few options).

The guy with the gun and sweet mask is going to be my leader. I have a few more guys but I want to get these done and then add more options as time allows. Anyways, that's all for now! Wish me luck at the BB tournament Saturday!!!

So I played in the Blood Bowl Tourney this weekend. 56 people showed and I won 2 games and tied 1 which I was pretty darn happy with, especially with Chaos. Tie Breakers were not especially kind and I came in 10th but still pretty pleased. Took pictures of each of my games but for some reason the 3rd games pic didn't save so you will get to see the first two.

First game was a gentlemen who drove in from Indiana (we were in VA). He was playing Khorne. We ended up tying 1-1.

My second opponent drove most of the way across Va. He played Bretonnians. I took 2 of his blitzers out early in the game and he could never really recover. He only had 4 men on the pitch at the end of the first half but I could never get the ball off of him. I got the ball in the 2nd half, slowly ground down his team and scored on turn 15 to lock in the victory.

My third opponent came up from around Raleigh NC and he played Vampires. This was the best game I played all day and I eeked out a 2-1 win on the last turn of the game. Pics didn't save for some reason on this one so you will just have to take my word for it.

On a slightly different note I am hosting my own BB tournament at my FLGS in May. It will be called the Cave Squig Cup. If you can make the drive to Va. PM me and I will send you details. Here are some pictures of some of the custom swag I have gotten made for it. More still incoming.

Custom Turn Markers

And custom dice

I have also made some slight progress on my Ogre warband so will post pics of that shortly.

Congrats on the games.

Cave squig cup battle caps and dice with the symbol on the 6 (how they should be).

Where did you get the dice made if I might ask.

Squall's Hobby Blog. Painting & playing GW specialist games. @ 2020/02/10 12:18:16

Post by: squall018

I got them from a company in the UK called Dice International Ltd. Less than a dollar a dice shipped and took them a little over 3 weeks from when I paid for them to arrive at my door. Easy to work with, cant say enough good things really.

Speaking of Blood Bowl. I have been really enjoying messing with Ogres lately so I also started work on an Ogre team for Blood Bowl. They are one of the worst teams in game but I figured they would be good for intro games or against newer players.

Here is what I have done so far. 4 Ogres and 4 snotlings. I had painted the snotlings awhile back and used a different color for the base. I am in the process of fixing that so they all match but that explains the different color bases.

Gotta finish 2 more Ogres and probably 6 more snotlings. I plan on taking these guys to a tournament at the end of March so I have plenty of time. Will post pics of Warcry Ogre progress later tonight.

Ogres are looking good. May I inquire, what colors you used for the skin?

Squall's Hobby Blog. Painting & playing GW specialist games. @ 2020/02/13 20:46:12

Post by: squall018

Thanks guys!

@CB - Snotlings are the only players in BB that are strength 1. An average human is strength 3 and an Ogre is strength 5, so there is quite the disparity there.

@Viterby The Dark Color skin is P3's battlefield brown. The Caucasian skins are Bugmans Glow, Kislev Flesh and Cadian Flesh. Nothing Fancy. Just base, wash, and a little clean up with the base color.

Ive got a couple more guys done for my Warcry warband, including my first snotling. Also, I know they are technically called Gnoblars now, but Im always gonna call them snotlings. Anyways, here goes.

Now, I just have to finish the leader and 2 more snotlings and I have a legal force. Going to paint a few more just to have some options. I got a box of the two handed weapon Ogres in yesterday so they will be built and added soon. This has been a super fun little project and Ive really enjoyed messing with mostly larger models. Probably going to spend another 2 weeks or so getting the Warcry group ready and the BB team done. Then who knows whats next!

So first thing, a few reinforcements for my Ogres. Got an Ironguts kit and made a couple plus some snotlings. Will paint soon.

So earlier on this page I talked about DMing my first game ever. Well that was today. We ran two small dungeons. I only took a couple pictures but a good time was had by all.

And that's about it for today. Later this week should be more Ogres!

So a few of you guys have been talking about Gaslands on your blogs. I have the original book but never did much with it. I was out and about this weekend and saw some matchbox cars so looked through them and picked up a few. The Burger car is my favorite of the 2 but I bet I can do some cool stuff with the flat bed.

Been a slow hobby week. Didn't make it out to the Warcry Tournament so Ogres didn't get finished. There has been progress made on that front but there is nothing worth showing yet. There is an event at my FLGS March 21st and Im going to bring them to that, so they will be done sooner than later.

My RPG group is planning a one shot here in the next 3 months. We have 4 players, one of which is the DM so we only have 3 actual players. We prefer to have a 4 person party so one of us usually plays two characters. Well that's me this go round. I decided I wanted to have a dedicated magic user. Now, I have plenty of models for that to choose from, but that doesn't sound like much fun so I ordered the new frostgrave female wizards box. Here is what I did with the first sprue.

These top two are my favorite. The one on the left looks like she is summoning something and the wind is swirling around her. She has an evil look to her, which makes me not sure if I will use her for this game, but she is my favorite of the four. The other one is probably the one I will pick. Went with a classic witch look and she looks like she is casting a cantrip or something.

The one on the left here looks like she is in combat and slinging spells. The right hand one doesn't look like much of a magic user, but will make a good frostgrave henchman carrying a potion.

So its not much but its what I have. I have a Blood Bowl tournament Saturday. I will take pictures. I also had 2 other models come in with these that I will show off soon as well!

Thanks, CB! My buddy who hosts the games has a bunch of dwarven forge and a bunch of home made cast terrain. Its a pretty great set up.

I made the rest of the Frostgrave female wizards box. I like the first four I made better than these four, but these aren't bad.

Gonna try to get a couple of these ladies painted today.

Yesterday I went to a small Blood Bowl tournament in Cary, NC. I went 2-1 and came in 4th of 12.

The first game my dwarves and I got matched up against a Lizardman coach. This guy is a tournament regular and one of the best coaches in the region so I knew it was gonna be a tough game. I lost this one 2-1 which was about what I expected.

Next up I played a super killy Chaos team. I won this game 1-0 but it felt like I was losing most of the game because he took out so many of my players. He almost tied it up but I was able to dodge a dwarf blitzer out and get a 1 die block on his ball carrier which knocked the ball out and allow me to recover. By the end of the game he had 4 of my dwarves injured and out of the game.

Last I played an Elven Union team. I won this game 2-1. Scored the go ahead TD on turn 15. This was a tougher game than I thought it would be.

Finally, this was a tournament for charity so there was a raffle held. I won 2 awesome teams during the raffle. A Greebo Necromantic team and a Succubus Miniatures Khorne team.

And that's all I have for now. Will hopefully post later today with some painted wizards!

Wow, so its been over a month since I have posted. I have not been painting as much, as my work hours have increased and my wife and I are both working from home. On top of this our kids daycare has closed so we are both trying to work with a 3 year old and a 6 month in the house. By the time the day is done I usually have little energy for painting. But that doesn't mean I haven't done ANYTHING.

This is a small unit of dwarven linebreakers for Joe Mcullough's new game Oathmark. I havent painted rank and file infantry in about 5 years so it was a fun project. Going to add another rank and an officer here over the next day or two.

I have a few odds and ends like a female wizard I have painted up as well that I will post later today or tomorrow. A lot of the tournaments I was prepping for got cancelled, so some of those projects have fell by the wayside but I will be getting on them soon. Thanks for looking everyone!

Great job on those dwarves and I hope work-kid-balance improves! We're in a similar situation since middle of march, but luckily no increased hours for me and my wife until now and some vacation days atm, but it can take it's toll. Hang in there!

So still working from home. Still with 2 small kids at home. All day every day. But even still, getting some painting in.

First up are a couple additions to my Oathmark Forces. First up is a unit of Giant Spiders. Nothing special here, just good ole contrast paint.

Next up is an Eachy. Never heard of this before but its in the book. This was my take on one. Again, Contrast is at work.

Finally, I painted up an old metal Troll Slayer as a Dwarven Barbarian for a 3.5 DnD one shot for next weekend.

Ive actually gotten in a few games of Oathmark over the past couple weeks, so pictures of some of those games will be up soon.

Havent posted in a couple months, but I have been painting and gaming. So Gonna do a couple posts here in the next few days to catch up. To start with, in honor of the upcoming Blood Bowl release, I present my version of Bilerot Vomitflesh who is a star player for Nurgle. He's not very good in game, but I wanted to make the model anyway.

Lots more to come. Hope everyone is doing well out there!

Im awful at updating this thing. But I remember it exists and I always end up coming back to it. Never fear, I have been gaming and hobbying despite not posting here in about a year and a half. Still playing a lot of Blood Bowl. I recently painted up some chaos themed miniatures to add to my Ogre team. There are no chaos ogres in BB but I just wanted to try something a little different. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for looking. Will be posting more soon (for real, I promise).

Well, it has yet again been a long time since I have posted. I have been keeping track of my hobby but just not posting here. I am going to remedy that. I am still playing Blood Bowl as my main game but am still playing all sorts of different games so have quite the variety of minis to post. That being said Blood Bowl is my main game so we will start there. Here are two teams I have painted in the past year or so.

First up is an Amazon team I painted using the slap chop method. Just wanted to try it out. The random Warcry model can be used as a coach or an extra linewoman if needed.

Next up is a Snotling team I painted up to go to a tournament. Since snotlings are the worst team in BB I had enough gold for two star players so that is why there is an Ogre and a Skaven with the team. Took this to the Richmond Open and went 2-2 and won the Stunty Cup Trophy.

Thanks for looking. Will update more later this week.

See? I said I would post more. Two days in a row for the first time in years...

So when 10th ed of 40k came out we had a Combat Patrol event at my FLGS. Despite my better judgement I decided to give it a try. 40k is still not for me, but I did have some fun with this combat patrol. Anyways, I painted it up in about a week so results arent bad IMO all things considered.

I will be back later this week with more pics from my 2-year Hiatus.

Horus Heresy caught my eye when the new plastics came out. I have a small Alpha Legion Army. One of the rules that caught my eye when choosing a legion was Alpha Legions ability to take units from other legions. With that in mind I converted up some Gal Vorbak. Here is my take on them. I made them with parts / pieces I had from other projects which is certainly cheaper than buying the real ones from FW.

Later this week I will put up some pics of my actual Alpha Legion models with some Battle Report style pictures as well. Despite not posting in awhile until this week I have been painting and gaming non stop.

They are. I am quite the hoarder of bits so had all these left over (plus some more) from the 2 boxes I had from my 8th WHFB WoC army. It was an amazing box and hopefully gets rereleased with ToW releases.

So here are some proper Alpha Legion marines. Nothing special here. Just regular marines with a pretty basic paint job. These were the test scheme for the army. Worked well and was quick enough so I have stuck with it throughout. Thinking of doing some in black with the blue AL color on just the shoulder pads or something just to differentiate between squads.

I havent taken a ton of pictures of my 30k units individually but did take some pictures of their last battle. Played a 2k game against my friends Word Bearers.

His storm eagle was blasted from the sky the turn it came on the board killing everything aboard (all his Gal Vorbak) which pretty much swung the game in my favor. We had a lot of fun and are planning a Zone Mortalis game in July.

One last Battle in 30k before I move on to some of My AoS stuff. This batle I used my Demons of the Ruinstorm. This battle was a narative battle where the traitors and their demon allies were trying to breach a Loyalist Stronghold. Word Bearers, Iron Warriors and Demons vs Loyalist Emprors Children, Space Wolves, and Solar Auxilla. The Traitors ended up winning the battle but it was a great time and took us about 7 hours to play.

Our Deployment

And some Battle Photos

And thats it for now.

So thought I'd post a couple pictures of individual models. Th army so far has 2 dreadnoughts. In my area we play by the rules of only 1 dread per 1k points since they are pretty powerful. I will add some more to the army for options, but this is what I have for now.

First is my dual lascannon dread. He is probably OP and he seems to be the all star in every game I use him.

Next up is the first plastic dread that came out a few years back. I had it lying around and was the first model I painted up for this army.

And thats it for now. Will post a few more individual pics of other units here soon. Thanks for looking!

Going to play a Zone Mortalis game in a few weeks and I imagine they will perform well in that.

Last post about the Alpha Legion for a bit. Played a small 1500 point game against my buddy's Word Bearers. I won this game on points but he definitely did more damage to my army that I did to his!

My List

The one picture I remembered to take...

Thats all for now. We are playing a ZM game in July so I will probably be working in this army in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for some AoS and Blood Bowl!

Next up is my Necromantic Horror Blood Bowl team I painted up. I went for a monochromatic scheme with a pop of color on the armor. First attempt at this kind of paint style and it came out well enough.

Played a few games with this team but they are not my favorite. Thanks for looking and till next time!

Lovely group shots - you've nailed the metallic blue of the AL and the Blood Bowl team is almost at the opposite end of the spectrum with the drybrushing. Nice pops of colour on both of them - the green power weapons for the AL and the red for the spooks.

Glad you're getting some games in too! Must feel great to have a fully painted force out there rolling dice.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Tzurk. I have been trying more and more to only play with painted models. Doesnt always happen but I usually get em done.

So the past few posts have been from the two year gap in my posting here. In this post I am going to post about what Im actively working on right now. I am going to the NOVA open at the end of August and am playing in ALL the Blood Bowl events they are having. One of those is a Blood Bowl variant called Dungeon Bowll where you play in a Dungeon instead of on a pitch. The teams are mixed into colleges and I am going to give the college of metal a try this year. Here is my progress on the team so far.

Here is the team in its current state

A closer look.

And here are the 4 models that are actually finished.

Going for a very rusted / distressed metal look. Not sure how it comes across but Im in too deep now to change it. Let me know what you think!

The other project I am currently working on is an ebay rescue for a FEC army. Got this lot DIRT cheap and with the new edition coming around I figured I would do something with them. Here is how they were sent to me. Wish me luck!!

Honestly dont know what was done to these models. They seem structurally sound but there is a lot of gunk on them!

So I started trying to clean these models up. Using a small jewelry cleaner and it has worked well enough. Dont need to get everything off, just the clumps of paint etc.

Excuse the mess in the pics. Doing this in my outdoor shop.

Hopefully can get these done over the weekend and get some primer on them.

"Colleges" for BB teams is an interesting concept - lots of different steel-wearing dudes ready to brawl there. Is it based on the different magical lores from WHFB like Metal/Beasts/Heavens/whatever?

Good luck with the clean-up and congrats on the steal!

That is exactly what the colleges are from. Blood bowl lore wise takes place in an alternate dimension of the old world but besides all the warring everything is the same. Made more progress on that team that I will share later! Pretty much all the greenskins are done now and now I just have to paint the humans to go with them.

But for now I wanted to share progress on the FEC lot. Went from what you saw above to this!

Note the character in the upper right corner isnt finished. He didnt come with a base or his tactical rock and so I need to decide exactly what I want to do with him.

So Ive actually done some more work on that FEC rescue but havent taken pictures. For now, I spent some time the past week working on the Skaventide box and playing some spearhead.

Started working on the stormcast spearhead first. Excuse the mess, was working at my kitchen table while I was watching the kids. My normal hobby area is in the basement.

First game we played with the spearhead's in the box. My buddy is obsessed with skaven so he took the rats. The stormcast won this game pretty convincingly but we are still wrapping our heads around the new rules.

Next up we played Sons of Behemat vs Bonereapers. OBR is my friend's go to army. Please excuse my cheap SoB proxies. I like GW but I cant justify the prices of their giants so I have an army of proxies for SoB.

This was a much closer game. I won only because I drew a card that gave me strike first in my opponents turn which saved my leader from dying and allowed me to kill his leader. Really enjoying the card aspect of the game.

And thats all for now. Working on getting this Stormcast Spearhead ready for an event at my FLGS tomorrow.

Worked on the stormcast Spearhead from the Skavetide box some more. Getting the glowing effects going.

Coming along nicely and with only 11 models total to paint it should take next to no time to finish.

Agree that the cost of the Behemat giants is ridiculous, considering that they aren't even very attractive giant models. Compared to the ones from Mantic, or even 3D printed, they look especially bad.

Loving the glowing effect on your stormcast - super striking!

I agree, Cap'n. On the cost at least. I like the look of the models but still not worth that cost. Especially as if I ever want to play in an official AoS event I have other armies but the guys at the FLGS dont care.

Thanks, Blockade! Appreciate it!

Here is the Spearhead 99% complete. I need to finish the priests face but its done enough to show off the idea. Again, please excuse the mess in the picture. Not been working in my normal hobby area as of late.

So its been a couple weeks since I have posted. I was getting ready for the NOVA open. I spent my entire time there playing Blood Bowl which was very fun, but also maybe 18 games of Blood Bowl in 3-1/2 days was a little much. I loved the game, but was tired of it by the end.

The team I made specifically for NOVA was for Dungeon Bowl, which is a variant of Blood Bowl played in a dungeon. Makes sense, huh? I chose the College of Metal and painted up the below team for it.

I only remembered to take a picture of one game, which is against The College of Heavens.

We played three games and I went 1-1-1 which was good enough for me. Thanks for looking, and I will post more shortly.

I did feel a little bit of burnout towards the end of the con. Had fun, but it was a lot.

I also played in the Gutter Bowl tournament which is pretty much Blood Bowl in the street. I only took this one picture of my three games. This one my OWA vs Chaos Renegades.

I took 2nd overall (out of just 8) so had a pretty good day with this one.

Got a little burnt out of Blood Bowl after playing so much at NOVA. Been working on some Kill Team and other skirmish games as of late. Here are some WIP shots of my Mandrake Kill Team for the new edition.

Just going with a pretty basic slap chop on these but it looks good enough for the time put in. Thanks for looking.
