A bunch of locals jumped on the game this weekend and had a good look a the mini's. They are a lot better looking than the pictures online made them out to be originally. They are cartoony, but are solid figures for the price. Like the worm rider, but he looks a little small. Think they scaled down the figure to fit on the base.

A couple people who got in coming from Warmachine openly stated these blow an PVC figs Privateer Press has out of the water. PP has zero justification for what they charge and what you get.

While I haven't played it yet, from watching, the mechanics look simple but have significant depth. I'm not sure I'm ready to commit to another game, but it looks promising. Question is will the local crowd be able to maintain it?

PP PVC figures are pretty bad. Like original deadzone kinda of bad and they haven't improved much afaik

Nope.
However, if you buy the individually packed units you may be able to sell the upgrade cards and unit bases and recoup a bit of the cost.

I think that's very much the case also, they seem to be sculpted deliberately with PVC in mind. In my blog post about the figs and alternate assembly I wrote:

I'm rather impressed with these figs. The material feels very much like the PVC used by Reaper Bones, but it seems to be cast cleaner without much of the softness of detail that some Bones suffer from. It appears that the minis were deliberately sculpted for easy painting and with the limitations of PVC in mind. Details are bolder and more raised and also somewhat sparse. There is no attempt at the hyper-detailing that is prevalent so many current miniature lines and this has the advantage of avoiding the pitfalls of many Bones miniatures whose sculpts were originally intended to be cast in metal, a material better suited for fine detail than PVC.

This design choice will -I assume- disappoint many hard-core miniature painters who appreciate the minute greebling and filligree common in Privateer Press and Games Workshop miniatures. However, those who wish to get their figures painted quickly and easily will find much to like like in these figures.

I played this game a couple of times over the weekend and i was really impressed whit the mechanics. I think any old WHF player will really like the mechanics. I am optimistic about the future of this game and ranked fantasy combat.

Regarding the miniatures, I thought they were quite nice for what they were, assembled quickly and looked good on the table. I'd say they were on par or perhaps a bit better than some of the older War-hammer Fantasy minis

Miniatures are much better than I was expecting. The detail is good, the assembly was an absolute breeze, and most of them are fairly easy to modify a bit. Not all of them, but the infantry at least can be posed differently with little trouble. A few bent spears and such but either I was lucky or they fixed some of the problems because they weren't bad at all and the minor bends I did have were easily fixed.

The only parts I was really annoyed with were the bases. They don't fit into the trays, like, at all. Going to snip the little pegs off and see how it goes, magnetize them worst case.

Still, pretty happy with them. I'd gladly use them in other games as well. The spearmen in particular I really like the look of on the table.

Yup, another reader here to chime in and agree: the minis are really nice. In particular, they seem designed for the painter in mind. Most have really nice details that are easy to pick out with a brush, and have really open stances, so there are no hidden, hard to reach spots (e.g., a shield tucked tight against a chest is probably more realistic, but much harder to paint)

Haven't played yet, but they're super fun to paint
