I recently got back into Warhammer 40k and decided on doing Imperial Guard and Space Marines. I'm starting with Imperial Guard and want to get at least 1000 points worth painted before I move on to Space Marines. I'm only doing basic tabletop quality on all models except characters/HQ's. So no highlights on random Guardsman.
Here's what I have finished so far:
My Company Commander:
He's important because he's standing on something I guess.
Awesome looking Cadians man! Very crisp and characterful. I particularly like your Company Commander! Very cool stuff and I look forward to seeing more of your stuff soon. As a Guard player, I always enjoy seeing more guard posted up. Keep painting & show us your Tanks once they're painted up.
Got some reinforcements. I bought some of these used and stripped the paint off.
Two more Plasma Gun Squads. Which brings me up to 3 total:
Another Meltagun Squad. Which gives me to 2 to work with:
A couple Commissars:
And a few Sentinels with 3 more on the way for one of the new new formations in the Mont'ka campaign book:
I really like using Veteran Squads in Chimeras so that's the theme I'm going with. I'm also working on the new Archaon model for a friend so there might not be a lot of updates for a while. And I just noticed one of the sentinels antenna is broke.
Finished up a few tanks, minus some minor details such as writing "Cadia" on the sides of the Chimeras. They need something else though, not really sure what. Anyway, the one with the antenna will be my Command Squad's Chimera. I am going for a very simple tabletop standard Guard army so maybe I should leave them like this.
I would say highlighting as trephines mention, but also maybe some weathering. Soot around the mufflers etc, rust, mud, paint being burned away from bounced shots etc.
Finished most of the basecoats and washes. Not sure what color eyes I'm going to do. I was thinking green because there's already plenty of red on the model.
So I changed my mind about Crimson Fists. I just can't seem to decide on which chapter tactics I like the best so I'm doing Blood Ravens instead. I guess they don't belong to a specific chapter so I'm going to choose which tactics I want to use each game. Here's a WIP of my "Raven Guard" Captain. I used the backpack from the new Blood Angels Chaplain.
Next up is a Captain on bike which will be used as a White Scars Captain.
Finished up my "Raven Guard" Captain. And yes, that says "Cena" as in John Cena on his shoulder pad. It's a bit of a joke at my local GW. I'm working on getting some Blood Ravens transfers for shoulder pads/vehicles.
Thanks guys! I just ordered some bits for a Captain on foot, so I'll be working on him next week. For now I have a few bike squads I'm working on. I could use some help with creating my Chapter Master. I'm very new to Space Marines so I don't really know which kits come with the bits I would need. What bits would you recommend using to create a model that resembles this:
The easiest way to get arms suitable for 2-handed weapons is to grab a Grey Knights set, between halberds and hammers they have plenty. It's expensive for just one part, but you can easily do something cool with the rest oft he squad; they make great Librarians, or Honour Guard with a few alterations to some of the details. His shoulder pads could also be acquired from GK ones by the looks of it.
The torso with the tassles is best found in the old, multi-pose Space Marine Commander box, there may be one or two in the Sternguard as well.

Thanks for the help.
I found a hammer that I think will work:
Spoiler:
For the shoulders I'm thinking of using the ones this Sternguard has(the one with the melta gun):
Spoiler:
I already used the backpack and torso from the Space Marine Commander box on my bike commander. So I'd like to use something else.
I'm definitely gonna keep following this since I'm playing through the campaign of Dawn of War 2 again (didn't get to finish the first time; game crashed and I lost my save file somehow ). Painting looks nice, and the models' poses are great! Looking forward to more!
Thanks guys! This is the first army I've done where I have finished all my HQ's before a single squad of troops. After this Captain I'll get back to working on all of my bikes. I have about 30ish so I'll probably do 3 at a time to keep my sanity.
Looks great man! Blood Ravens are one of my dream projects that I'll probably never get to, so I'm happy to see someone else give them some love. And if they turn out as good as yours have? Even better!
If you put together more, I’d recommend swapping around some of the heads/torsos/backpacks, or taking a hand off the controls to shoot someone with a bolt pistol. Because while well done, they are very clone like. You could also put some kit on the back of the bikes to differentiate them a little.
Going back a little farther in this thread, I’d second picking up a GK box for parts. Not only do you get the hammer you need, but psychic hoods for making your own librarians. Which I suspect you will want a few of for your Ravens. I know I got three out of that box myself.

I have a dozen more boxes of bikes I have yet to open. I'm very picky with how my models are posed and what gear they're using. My Biker Sergeants will have a chainsword in one arm, Bikers with special weapons will be holding/aiming them, and regular Bikers will be "clones" like you said.
Bought the last can of Khorne Red Spray at GW today. So basecoating the red on my Marines will go a lot quicker. Had all three of my Captains out of their case so I figured I might as well take a picture of them next to each other.
I found a possible alternative to the Grey Knights Thunder Hammer for my Chapter Master:
I don't really do anything special. Multiple thin coats of GW's Rakarth Flesh, Agrax Earthshade over it, then layer back up with Rakarth, then do the edges with Pallid Wych Flesh.

Nice to see the three of them lined up, sharp looking crew.
Yes actually. I'll probably be buying that new getting started box that comes with the Terminator Captain
You can never have to many captains!
On the thunderhammer: Are you looking to buy the box, or just order the bit separate? I think they are both nice looking hammers, personally I think the GK one is a bit more impressive. But if picking up boxes, which would you get more use out of? Wings and blood drops are not our of place in your chapter, so the death company box could be a goldmine of bits for you. The GK box, on the other hand, is basically 5 build your own librarians, which is quite nice.

I'll be ordering the bits separately from this seller http://stores.ebay.com/blackdaggergames/. I've been buying from him for a while and his prices are great and he ships your orders quickly
Also, I'm sort of redoing my Bike Captain. I ordered a bit from one of the Ravenwing boxes. I'll be using the one in the middle in this picture.
hey man, just saying your cadians look absolutely awesome, mine are rubbish in comparison, can you tell me how you painted them?
much love for this thread. awesome stuff
check my p&m blog if you want.

Started working on my Chapter Master today. I'll be using the the shoulder pad from the new Blood Ravens Librarian Deathwatch model coming out this weekend.
Just got Corvus Corax in the mail yesterday. Taking a break from the Blood Ravens and painting this dude. His wings are SO thin, I'm surprised they haven't broken yet.
Thanks! Do any of you know what Corax's whip is made of? The one on forgeworld looks kind of green/brown. All I have left to finish is the whip and the dude he's shooting as he lands. Not sure which legion to paint him as.
Finished a few more bikes, including 3 sergeants(dudes with chainswords). I haven't been posting updates lately because I've been busy moving and starting a new job. Also got a new light, which is A LOT brighter than my last one. I'm thinking about getting a lightbox for taking pics.
Ooo, big boxes of stuff. Its all good having a few elite units as your army, but nothing beats having lots of infantry on the table. Looking forward to it!

I just couldn't pass up on the demi-company box, it's too good of a deal.
Awesome job so far like many others have said they're definitely more than simply table top quality! Darn you for making me want to paint up some blood ravens
Brilliant work, love the crisp painting on all the models.
The beak helmets on the blood angels are a good add too, not what you expect for some reason but very cool!
Also the back of your russe's really show what you can achieve with the kits, nice work.
Subbed.
Devastators:
I have another box to make two more Grav and Lascanons
Scouts:
Centurions:
Dreadnought:
Land Speeder Storm:
Drop Pod:
Librarians:
Chaplain:
Another Captain:
And here's my Imperial Space Marine and a WIP picture of Captain Centos. I had to use different arms for Centos because the resin on mine was terrible.
Interesting scheme - I like the idea but think that it could do with some more contrast between the greys and metals. Admech are already an extremely metallic army which is where the usual red helps to break it up a little. You did say these were WIPs though so I'll hold my judgment just yet I must say, do like the blue, green and red spot colours
WIP pics of the limited Forgeworld dude that was released in GW stores a few weeks ago:
Also, I'm not sure if I can do this on here, but my Imperial Guard army is for sale. Everything that's in this thread, plus LOTS of unassembled/unpainted kits that I could build/paint for you. Message me if you're interested
Your Corvus face is well done, very realistic looking. Paint job is superb! Not a fan of the bare head on the forgeworld guy but that's my own opinion. I would of bought one if it didn't have the head. Your painting on him is well executed, I really like your gold edges on the armor.
Hey guys, I've decided to quit the hobby and am getting rid of all my warhammer stuff. Every marine you see in this thread is for sale at a very reasonable price. I know I'm not supposed to post this here, I already have a post in the Dakka Swap Shop. Please message me if you have any questions.
