Come on guys, conquer your fears... let's count our unfinished plastic, resin, metal, and PVC! You know you want to... Here's my current count, might have missed some:
*Forces of the Imperium 120 - Mostly Space Marines, including lots of infantry, a couple of vehicles, Space Hulk Terminators, an entire BaC box, plus a box of Skitarii and 15 Tempestus Scions. All grey plastic except a couple of primed squads. Most of it unbuilt actually.
*Eldar 129 - So much Eldar… my Footdar army consisting of Storm Guardians and Aspect Warriors (all types except Dark Reapers), The Avatar, War Walkers, Vypers, Vaul's Wrath, a Wave Serpent etc. Some more tanks I don't currently use along with 20+ normal Guardians, Wraithguard and bits and bobs. About half of this is partially painted (basecoat and wash basically). Also a couple of Harlequin vehicles I got cheap.
*Necromunda 88 - Escher, Delaque, Cawdor, Enforcers (third-party) and some Inquisimunda stuff. A few Escher partially painted, the rest primed at best.
*Chaos 114 - A huge fantasy Chaos army, mostly oldhammer stuff. Warriors, Beastmen, Chaos Dwarves in a nice mix. All grey plastic/metal.
*Lord of the Rings 104 - Elves, Goblins and Isengard Orcs, plus a few trolls and the Fellowship. All grey plastic.
*Other 77 - Enforcers, Plague and Marauders for Deadzone, Space Hulk Genestealers and some random stuff. All grey plastic/PVC (yuk!).
TOTAL 632
Oh, and I have a big Dropfleet Commander pledge coming, as well as an Imperial Knight...
Four ghost arks, two monoliths, an obelisk, a stalker, three night scythes. (11 vehicles)
Five parerotians, five lychguad, five crypteks, two lords, an overlord, 50 warriors, 15 immortals, 15 death marks, 10 tomb blades, 12 wraiths, 36 scarab bases, two c'tan, 10 destroyers, three heavy destroyers. (158 models)
15 ratskins, about 50 orcs for gorkamorka, 3 trukks, 3 trakks, 60 or so blood angel terminators... oh my, the list is seemingly endless...
I almost have enough unpainted stock to open my own store...
And yet more stuff is due in a few days.... So...learning, not my strong suit. I am closing in on finishing three units though! that have been on the table for about four months now...
I have no idea how many unpainted miniatures I have. I do know that I have 0 completely finished and based tho.
I do have some LOTR stuff that was technically complete but to a poor quality from when I started painting and put it on too thick so I need to redo them.
Normally this would depress me but I am making progress slowly through the KoW, GoA, Malifaux, Infinity and AoS
AoS - 'Horde of Skeletons' box - assembled, based and primed for a store tale of painters challenge.
Malifaux - various - seamus box (unmade), cross roads 7,
primed and based; nicodem box, molly box, Leviticus box, mech rider, desolation engine, mc mourning box
Part painted: lucius crew
Kings of War - Undead - 30 knights, 4 characters, 10 mummies, 20 revenants left - all assembled, primed and base coated but need detailing and finishing.
Infinity - too much in various states of painting/non painting to even record. Haqq, Nomads, Yu Jing
Gates of Antares - Concord - 45 dudes, 8 drones - assembled, based and primed
40k - Salamander Space Marines - easily 80 dudesmen in various stages of stripped-ness, tanks etc
40k - Steel Legion - 100 50% painted dudesmen, about 12 tanks, various characters
Misc. random stuff - reaper, old warhammer, old 40k etc

Here I was a little too ashamed to say that my high elf army is completely gray and over 500 models large. Now I feel a little less bad, maybe elves are just supposed to be gray....
Although you said repainting so there at least was paint on yours at some point so youre still miles ahead of me.

I decided to make them less "vanilla" so that's why I stripped them down. It was really hard to literally throw all that time down the drain, but hey it doubled as painting experience!
I'd better count my painted miniatures. I have to count the unpainted, I will need several days
Currently, I am very slowly working through my huge pile of LotR miniatures that I collected over the years. Most of those are unpainted, but some were painted really badly and need to be redone. Ugh, paint stripping is so much work...
As of now I have some two hunderd or so minatures awating paint. They are all for the Pike & Shot so they are awating assembely and paint. Starting a new army is so much more easy when the boxes comes with 40 miniatures in them.
I dread to think, in the high 1000's I should think and that is without word of exaggeration. A sad indictment on both my lack of hobby time and lack of painting motivation.
kronk wrote: Do my Reaper Bones I and II Kickstarter minis count? You get the box all at once and it's a lot of stuff!
Whenever I'm asked this question, I count anything I pledged as an add-on, but not the basic box. My thought being, I bought the box as a resource for future games, not for a specific purpose.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I'm not sure I could even ball park it. I'd guess 400-600, well under 1000 at this point.
I've got way too many, including many Dark Angels Space Marines, Tau, and Chaos Space Marines, plus plenty of Khorne Daemons (including a Bloodthirster). Plus I've got two Assassins who are in the WIP stage. I've got a unit of Tau Fire Warriors and two Dark Angels flyers still on sprues. And that's just my 40k stuff. I've got plenty of LOTR stuff that's unpainted as well. I just don't think I can count all the unpainted minis; my brain would probably shut itself off before I got halfway through...
I got back into the hobby with AoS, and since then, I have about 200 painted minis and 33 unpainted/partially painted. I've felt like my unpainted pile has grown too much so I'm getting these guys done before getting anything new.

I have no idea how many unpainted miniatures I have but I do know that since I started my painting blog 7 years ago I have painted over 1500 miniatures.
Despite that I still have a painting backlog that might last me until I retire.
Oh god here we go...I assume primer doesn't count?

To actually answer the question...probably 500-ish models?
Edit: Jesus I forgot AoS and my wife's Dark Elves...*runs screaming into the night*

ditto - well over.........
It's gotten to the point now where I'm actually a bit ashamed of myself. This picture is about a third to a half of the unpainted pile (I'm 6'2", for reference)
Assuming all grey, primer only, or unbuilt models. Partial painted models that meet a 3 color
Orks
Dakkajet
2 Battlewagons
A box of boyz on sprue
SAG Big Mek
2 boxes of Gretchen
5 scratch built lobbas
Tau
10 Firewarriors on sprue
1 Ethereal
2 Crisis Suits
2 Piranhas
2 Devilfish
25 Kroot
1 Riptide on Sprue (I feel my soul bleed owning one of these..... abominations)
Grey Knights/Inq 4 MEQs on sprue
5 Interceptors
5 Purifiers
Land Raider
Chimera
Space Wolves
10 to 20 MEQs 5 Thunder Wolves
2 Drop Pods
5 Little wolves
20 BA British infantry which I have been meaning to paint for 2 years.
15 Warzone Capitol I bought at the weekend
30 Panzer grenadiers, 1 Pz IV and 3 Hannomags that I also bought at the weekend.
That's about it. I do have a boxful of Epic Marines (probably 2-3 companies worth) but as they came as a job lot with the stuff I actually used for my Epic marines I don't really count them.
I no longer buy anything that I won't paint and I have set goals to get stuff painted. I expect to have everything above painted, aside from the British infantry, by the end of the summer (the Infantry will probably all be done by the end of June).
I'm fairly proud of myself, at the beginning of this year I had considerabily more to paint (for example, I did my entire 'Nid army, starting in October, about a 3,000 pt force). Some of it is miniatures that were bought up to nearly 30 years ago, and they've either been incomplete to bare, and in one case, still on sprue.
But but, in the time it would take to count my unpainted minis, I could have better spent that time buying more to not paint!
It's far easier to count the 10 gallon tubs they occupy. So, uhh, like 5 full of blisters/boxes. One day I'll get through that Rackahm Confrontation I bought at 90% off though, I swear!
1,258 figures worth 40,500 points. 75% painted, worth 30,500 points, painted to at least a table top standard. 120 figures unassembled ... mostly the contents of the boxed sets: Overkill, Execution Force, etc.
I'm in the several Hundreds. Probably 4-5 hundred or so. Maybe I'll go count, but it would be a long, disheartenening job with many boxes to go through.
My only consolations are that my painted miniatures outnumber my unpainted minis and none of my unpainted minis will see the table until they are painted.
A Nomad Hellcat, a Haqqislam Janissary, a PanO CSU and an Aleph Acmon character figure.
The rest of my stuff is painted - because in order for me to use it on the table, it must be painted (I don't field unpainted models).
I did have some unpainted 40k stuff, but I got rid of it because I was never going to use it.
I started collecting in 1987. Some of those are still waiting. The good news is I can retire in 4 years so I can finally finish that wood elf army that started it all.
I would guess somewhere around 2-6000 figures in various states. I would estimate I have painted at least that many over the years also.
The best part about these threads is that it makes my lead pile look like a mole hill compared to some of the mountains you guys have.
I won't count each miniature, but I will take a picture:
The largest chunk is a bunch of 15mm Germans, originally for Flames of War, but now detached and kept around because the scale and period is so versatile.
Up front and to the right is a Command Unit from All Quiet on the Martian Front. It's the last unpainted piece I have. Once that's done, the lot will probably go up for sale.
Behind it are two Guild Ball Miniatures; Hemlocke and Captain/Veteran Rage.
Still on the front and on the left are two DBA armies - Early Imperial Romans and Ancient British.
Behind them are two units of Normans for SAGA, and twelve old west gunslingers.
Behind those are two small forces for Muskets & Tomhawks; French and British.
On the back row and to the left is a human Blood Bowl team, formed from a couple of old 3rd edition plastic sets.
And on the right of the back row is the starter set for Strange Aeons, along with some kickstarter bonuses.
Not shown is the unpainted Kings of War stuff I have. That lot has been packed up, as I've kind of lost interest in the game. So it'll either be brought back out at a later date, or more likely, sold.
How Did I end up with 7 unpainted wraith knights :9
I have pick up a lot of stuff from people leaving the hobby last two years, so I wouldn't even hazard to guess the model count.
It's probably in the thousands now :0
How do we count army's unbased but fully painted otherwise :0
Or a space marine army that met the most sad fate, a kitten.
My current played army's are all 99% painted, but I am adding to evrything as I go and paint slow. :9
How do you manage to get HUNDREDS of models unpainted ?^^
How many minis do you buy each year ?!
To come back to this question, in my case it isn't so much the volume of product bought (although that has been a factor in the past) but more a combination of factors:
I am a slow painter - I don't particularly enjoy it and I am a champion procrastinator when it comes to painting.
As I have got older, rather than having more free time, I find that more and more things impinge on my time meaning my hobby time is squeezed and it becomes more and more difficult to set aside 'me' time. In turn, this means the small amount of time that I used to devote to painting is even further reduced.
Being a hobby butterfly - I have a bad habit of flitting from project to project, game system to game system without ever finishing a project to my satisfaction. This combined with:
Being a serial collector - I have a habit or OCD tendency that when I start a system, for instance, I feel an urge to collect all the armies or forces for that system. Example: I have at least 3000 points of every 40K race (including multiple Space Marine chapters). Then, when I got fed-up with 40K and decided to revisit my Epic past, I ended up collecting all the 2nd Ed Epic forces, to the stage where I have ~30000 points of every Epic army - including Tyranids and Squats, which cost a small fortune.
Kids and house move. Having two small kids and recently moving house has meant that my hobby time has taken a complete and utter backseat for the last year. Hopefully, now the move is done, kids are slightly older and I have my man-cave up and running, I can now start to re-invigorate myself.
Finally, motivation. Having a large collection is actually seriously de-motivating because you wander into your games room, see all the stuff that is unfinished and get a serious case of bring-down thinking about the time and effort needed to get it all up and running, to the point now where I have to adjust my priorities, focus on finishing something and force myself to stop buying until I have finished more stuff.

This sums it up pretty well; I get motivated for a project (usually someone at the group is starting it), buy in pretty big and interest fades before I get much done. Or I just don't have the time.
I'm also a sucker for deals or exclusives - I normally get a lot of stuff on spec from Kickstarter, because the deals are too good, or they contain some KS-only thing.
Since my hobby time is reduced, I don't feel shame about unpainted mini's, I do at least try and base and prime them first though.
Though putting it in perspective, I'm taking about 600 unpainted minis (most NIB) to a a fleamarket in a few weeks with the hopes of offloading a pile and freeing up some space and cash. With a smaller tin pile (and a tidy paint station - haha!), I should find it easier to make progress.
For me, a lot of it is that I can't resist a deal. If I see a 40-50% off sale I have to buy stuff. Recently I bought about 110 Lord of the Rings miniatures for a pittance, even though I've never played it and no one here is interested. But it was so cheap...

To add to those reasons, most of the non-kid ones applying to me as well, I like having anything that I might want in the event that the manufacturer stops making it or indeed goes belly-up. As a result I tend to buy things as whole armies and stick them on a shelf rather than buy what I can paint and then find out mid-way through an army project that something I needed is no longer sold or in short supply. A two-edged sword, since it means I might miss out on a sale later, but I prefer to err on the side of caution.
In my younger days, when I had fewer bills, I wouldn't be shocked to learn I was acquiring 60-70 models a month for possibly years at a time. Heck, if we're counting individual 15mm soldiers as models I have 44 in the mail to me right now, but that also seems like cheating slightly.
Doing a reverse-Buttery Commissar aside (and boy does that sound like an incredibly deviant act), I have slowed down as I got older mostly due to there not being any more that I really wanted to get; most of my armies are complete beyond random "stuff for the stuff god!"-ing. I know that will change in a few months, but hopefully by then I'll have a bit more at least out of the boxes and not taking up as much space.
Oh, and consulting my incomplete inventory my Games Workshop "not finished" (meaning assembled, painted, varnished and based) count is at 3,201. This does not include other manufacturers and is actually not even all of my GW stuff.
All of my X-Wing stuff is painted though! Because it comes that way...

There a lot of ways to spike the number. time is the biggest factor, as is buying used stuff. I have two goblins halves to Battle for Skull Pass, 150 models, that I picked up for about $50 at a bitz trade. That's a huge pile of minis for as cheap as free. Now, that's about half a usuable army, but it's still a ton of models.
My other main source of minis are my Praetorians. I've been collecting them since 2002, and I while I have about three hundred infantry painted (not all praetorian, but mostly) I have roughly 200 more to paint up. When you collect an OOP army, you buy when you can.
After those two big ones, a lot of smaller things come up: the BaC I got as a Christmas present. The 20 Mk IV FW marines I got in a trade. The 100 or so Gondorians I've been collecting for a KoW army. The Basilieans I got in a kickstarter, and augmented with stuff from a crazy box and prize support at a tournament. The 75 or so Marines my brother gave me because he doesn't play anymore. and so on.
If I hadn't done a pretty intense sell off a few years back, I'd have way, way more. We're talking 10,000 point armies for Space Marines, Eldar, and Demons, and 3k of Orks, Tau, and Grey Knights.
I have 'only' to paint 52 models of Eldars and 32 of Space Marines. I just need to behave and stop buying 2nd hand minis before the ones I own get some colors.

Actually, the two Elf (High and Dark) are my oldest "not really done anything with" armies; anything bought before them and more than a few after them have at least a fieldable force finished. I have the concept model for the High Elves done, and that's it. Between them there's at least 300 models, and I'm pretty sure it starts to reach up towards 400. Throw in the Wood Elves I have from their initial plastic release....many moons ago and the Elf army is pretty huge. Almost all of them are the older models though; I think from the "recent" releases all I have is one box of Dark Elf Warriors and a few Dark Riders. GW got silly price-y around then and I couldn't justify $3.50 for rank-and-file plastic soldiers, and certainly not $6 a model for new Witch Elves.

I know the feeling. But I know very well that my HE's aren't even close to being done with as well because I want to finish up the army collection, so all in all the model count will be roughly in the upper 400's for the HE's alone...
...and then there's the Astartes as I want a full Deathwing army and complete the Ravenwing...
And then I also remember want to get a couple of BloodBowl teams...
and an Astartes BFG fleet...
and a couple of more Mordheim Warbands...
and a Necromunda Delaque Gang...
and now I want a Ronin Butai or two aswell...
and a couple of 15mm historical armies...
... and I need to cram in there related projects such as saving for a proper gaming table and my own fledgling ventures into terrain making.
If my shame permits it, I'll actually do a full recount later on tonight. But I'm already depressed.

Yep, I have a ton of BFG ships lying around at this stage, but most of the Imperials at least are painted. A classic example of "buy while they still exist" it seems, though maybe GW will bring it back in some capacity.
For the past couple years I have been hoarding 15mm historicals like a champ. From WW2 alone I think I have 16 mostly-discrete (i.e. - minimal sharing of support units) armies from three nations and technically enough armor to field a UK force. How many of those armies are fully painted? None. Though in my defense the US Airborne is actually nearly done (need to flock one battery of 105s and paint 4 Shermans; ignore those extra support units behind the curtain) and the Germans are only missing armored units because I'm still leery of airbrushing beyond primer even if my one experiment actually turned out okay. If I would stop being a ninny I could get that knocked out in a weekend but...
Throw in both factions for Team Yankee pretty much fully fleshed-out (only possible additions for a normal force org are another box of planes for each side and two more Hinds...the planes will likely be acquired in a month or so) and yeah...if we start counting individual soldiers from 15mm the number gets *insanely* bad. Heck, even counting vehicles it's pretty bad.
Seeing as I am very motivated right now, I am NOT going to do this. It would be detrimental to my hobby motivation to quantify the amount of unpainted plastic I have.
Tau
Crisis Suitsx3= on my painting table
Ethereal I painted this one. but hated how the cloak turned out and the feet. so I stripped it. took it off the drone and put it on cork.

I did a breakdown (of the list!) on the train. Hm.
About 530
Random quote so not specific to anyone but why do people waste so much money? In my youth I would buy entire armies in one go but sometimes I got bored of the concept/game before I completed them so I just stopped buying loads of stuff at anyone one time.
Now I just make a plan of what I need and I stick to it. Every single model that sees a table is painted and my backlog is small (and planned) due to this ethos. If I know won't be using something I will sell it (or sometimes give it away). This also ensures that I don't waste hundreds of pounds by having a plastic/lead mountain in the garage.

If I know won't be using something I will sell it (or sometimes give it away). This also ensures that I don't waste hundreds of pounds by having a plastic/lead mountain in the garage.
It's not wasted money to everybody. I don't regret the money I've spent on my unpainted stuff. Maybe I'll get to it, maybe I'll resell it, and maybe I'll keep it forever.
I don't go to bars anymore, I don't spend money on football tickets or strip clubs or anything else. If I want to buy an army, I buy it. If I don't use it, that's my business, not yours.

Indeed, but it still a lot of money to invest in a plastic graveyard.

Sorry to butt in but this irritated me. My response is a simple: So?
I am only speaking for myself, but I enjoy my collection of models, both painted and unpainted. The painted stuff looks great and gets used in games. The unpainted stuff is just potential fun and happiness held in stasis by a blister pack or a shrink-wrapped box--all waiting to be opened and enjoyed at a later date. That is the beauty of miniatures, except for the occasional lead rot, they don't really have a shelf life.
Most people have things they splurge on. As long as those excesses don't harm the person socially or financially what does it matter?
And to answer the OP: Thousands.
I have been collecting Battletech miniatures for almost two decades and I keep most of the figures in their original packaging so that is where most of that number comes from.
I also have hundreds of figures for Wargods of Aegyptus, Arena Rex, 40k, Dark Age, Wreck Age, Crimson Skies and All Quiet on the Martian Front along with random figures intended as proxies for some of those games sitting in my plastic graveyard, er, I mean hobby room.
privateer4hire wrote: On my trade shelf I have 20 unassembled Dreamforge sci-fi troopers. Everything else is painted.
...how?
I don't typically play with anything that isn't painted since I really dislike it.
I also hate to paint---at best I'm tabletop quality.
So I only buy things like GW's new board games (Deathwatch, Betrayal @ Calth, Execution Force) and AoS starter (treated as a self-contained board game).
Those have at most 50 miniatures.
EDIT: I also used to collect FoW and Bolt Action (still have them but no regular local opponents).
Playing historical stuff also tends to get you weird looks if it's not painted so 2000 pts of Germans (WW1 & WW2), British (WW1) and US (WW2) gotta be painted before you can even play
Am I the only one that uses a spreadsheet for this? 212 210 minis that are not finished. Mostly D&D minis (75, cheap PVC things) that I want to paint because I need the practice, rather than they need the paint. And Infinity minis (94 minis. But a fair number are base coated, and even more have color blocked in, so really, only 48 just are primed/unassembled) The rest are odds and ends, Pathfinder Reaper, Malifaux, an Old Ral Partha Frost Giant ( a repaint. It is from 1978.) some 2e gretchin (Mekboy assistants I think) Stuff that is on the 'fun to paint when I have the time' list.
I am making progress though. Even as a slooow painter.
I long ago outstripped what spreadsheets would provide. I actually use an app called MyStuff2 on iOS to track my collection and other major things around the house (primarily for insurance purposes). As we've previously established in this thread, I am mildly insane.
To answer Silent Puffin?'s question, it mainly started when I was younger it started as a hedge against some mythical time when I would "grow up" and have too many bills to spend money on models. Since plastic and resin are mostly non-perishable goods, it makes less of a difference if the model is brand-new or a decade old; it represents pretty much the same amount of hobby time. Oddly, life is what happens while you were off making other plans, and events conspired to leave me in the very fortunate position of never having that budget crunch materialize. While it now seems unlikely that it ever will barring catastrophe, I am amply prepared if it does.
Combine that with the fact that my attention frequently drifts, and it rapidly escalates to where things are. However, just because I probably have ADD doesn't mean a project is forgotten about; I will eventually find a circular tuit and thus get around to it. Heck, this thread nudged me into getting to the near-final stages on 110 miniatures (some touch-up on the bases and then varnish)! We will ignore that they're all 15mm soldiers for the time being...it still counts!
Well, I've got about a hundred Orks I got from a friend, a bunch a Chaos blokes and 40-ish Cultists, but those are models I'm planning on converting/selling/giving away. For Space Wolves? Maybe 15 PA models and a Land Speeder.
Beyond count. To save space II de-sprue all mine and segregate the parts in DIY parts boxes. Even so I have 5 such large parts boxes and 3 smaller ones. (That includes small scenery items, of which I have a lot). I've only constructed about 7% of the kits I bought. Haven't gotten around to painting any yet. Yes I admit have a problem. Though it's a relief to see that I'm not the only one...
When my Dracosan arrives in the next few days it'lll make my number to 160. I was making some good progress but DW:O.......
It's not a terrible number by any count. Want to make a sizeable dent in it (ie get the 4 boxed sets finished) before Shatted Earth arrives whenever. Mind you that's going to my Irish address and not to here so it won't really count
I'm currently bored so will try work this out.
40k Imperial guard: 29
Do want to repaint them all but i wont get round to it so will count them as painted
so like 20 guys plus 2 tanks and 7 dkok
Tyranids: 117
Swarm box 95 , getting started box 14,3 extra warriors and 5 gaunts
Orks: 116
56 orks 60 grots.
Chaos space marines: 71
about 65 guys and like 6 tanks, do have box of second hand guys that needs sorting out though
High elves: 140
Some stuff needs striping but will count it as i am interested in getting it done
32 spears, 32 archers 10 seaguard 10 reavers 16 silver helms 5 dragon princes 1 chariot 2 eagles 24 sword masters 4 mages 3 comanders 1 prince.
Blood bowl: 26
23 night goblins and 3 trolls i need to convert into a team
Necromunder: 33
one redemptionist priest
2 empire wizards 10 flagalents and 20 dark vengance cultists to be converted into the rest of the gang.
Epic:
Eldar:164
bought recently so don't have it here to do a proper tally
like 60 wave serpents 2 scorpians 6 walkers 4 wraithlords 2 avatars, 15 weapon platforms and probaly around 300 infantry figures will count in stands though so about 75.
dkok: soon
2 ghost / D. Arks
24 Necron Warriors
3 Terradons
16 6 th ed bretonnian archers
2 crypteks to be converted from warriors
1 dakkajet to be converted from a japanese fighter plane model
Total : 48 models. Warriors are currently being constructed and painted, so it might drop down to 24. The bretonnians are pretty low priority too.
I do use a spread sheet: Makes keep tracking of progress much easier. I even use it to log which paints I have.
I'm with everyone on piles of unpainted stuff, but I've never understood the unopened/unbuilt stuff. I'm a kid on Christmas whenever I get new minis. They're usually opened before I get home and built within the next few days. But painting takes more time, so for unpainted...
Let's get some estimates, no time for exact counts right now.
Not as bad as it could have been, seeing as I sold off all my stuff when I left the hobby brielfy and have only been back for 18 months:
CSM/KDK
Terminator Lord
Khorne Herald
5x Terminators
5x Possessed
24x Berzerkers
19x CSM - I have finished 1!
3x Bloodcrushers
Helbrute
2x Rhino's
Dark Angels
Company Master
Librarian
Interrogator Chaplain
20x Tactical marines
15x Terminators
5x Company Veterans
3x Ravenwing bikes
Predator
2x Imperial Knights winging their way to me shortly - broke my no purchasing vow as Imperial Knights Renegade was such a great deal - Feth you GW!
I also have 5x Dark Angels models from Dark Vengeance which I was selling until my enthusiasm waned due to the low return on these. I may just incorporate them into my DA force now, so thats an extra 100 models.
Impact Miniatures Sarcos Team (18)
Impact Miniatures Dark Elf Team (18)
Impact Miniatures High Elf Team (18)
Impact Miniatures Elf/Dark Elf Star Players (12)
Impact Miniatures Ork Band (5)
1x Warrior of Minas Tirith (90%)
1x Anvil Industry Blacksmith (50%)
1x Primarch Vulkan (99%)
4x British Infantry (90%)
2x British Light Dragoons (99%)
1x Covenant ORS Cruiser (70%)
Approx 30 SMs in need of Decals and re-basing.
Compared to most on here, I'm feeling pretty good about this now. Now I've just got to try and finish things...
Fantasy, 40k, Battlefleet Gothic, and Warmaster all combined...ugh...at least 1,000 unpainted. Let's estimate 1,250. Then there are those that I still haven't assembled...
5 Covenant SDV Frigates
All of the BaC set
All of my Daemons Plaguebearers,Flamers,Horrors,Plague Drones...
10 Tactical Marines for 40k ... (Cant decide on a Chapter)
Venerable Dreadnought .. (Again cant decide on a Chapter)
Some Space Wolves... Umming and Ahhing over those...
Plus a Nurgle WoC army in process of being rebased for AoS...
This is why I love my move over to skirmish games. My backlog, while it grows, actually shrinks as well. Because I've been playing a Malifaux league I've had the motivation to paint stuff and I've knocked 8 models off in the last 3 weeks while adding only 2.
Selym wrote: Just purchaased over 200 tyranid models for epic.
So now I'm at 300+...
Good lord, I forgot about my epic collection. It's not a horrible amount (The original Space Marine boxed game, additional box of marines and Eldar), but the infantry are so damn tiny and my eyesight is starting to slip...
40K: I haven't looked in years, but about 50 guardsmen.
DZC: 2 UCM Scimitars, 1 UCM Condor
Other: 10 TNT minis, about the same in goblins for RPGs, plus about 5 metal minis for RPGs.
Total: ~70 miniatures
Oh, plus a fairly big Dropfleet pledge coming in July(ish) if they keep their schedule. That should add 20 frigates, 4 battlecruisers, and 9 cruisers, for a total of nearly 100....
I'd completely forgotten about the guardsmen until now, I should probably get rid of them...
I have to check when I get home, but I think the last time I checked, I have around ~50 miniatures to paint still. Some of which I might not even do because I might be interested in trading some of them.
Pacific wrote: This makes me thing of that old Arthur C Clarke story, where when all of the stars in the sky have been counted, the world comes to an end
Gah!
DECADES of collecting (mainly 40k).
Qty is bad enough but size as well.
Heck some 30+ BOXES of models to build never mind paint.
Yeah, it will be silly time counting JUST the unassembled models.
Ha. People in this thread are accurately listing what they need to paint, and I'm over here re-discovering stuff that I forgot I had. Every dusty box in the garage is like a Christmas present
Not going to count, but I have a barely touched from. What I can tell CSM Battlefront from 5th ed. The Dark Vengeance CSM except a few unpainted. Hell my CSM 5th ed rhino is unpainted.
And an almost done but not quite finished Orikan the Diviner
Aspiring Champion wrote: Wait, we're only counting stuff we've taken out of the boxes/blisters, right?
No, why would we? Don't think you can somehow get out of this alive
Truthfully, less than 100. Most of it is CSM I was gathering together when GW put the embargo on the ROTW, breaking my heart and killing my enthusiasm for 40k in the process. I can't bring myself to sell them, however.
A whole undead army for AoS, the AoS starter box, and DV starter box... all assembled, only 10 ghouls have been painted. I think the number is a little over 100. All my old SM, I.G. and D.E. are no longer with me They were all painted
Yup, same here. Including historicals, I often tell fellow gamers that if a nuke went off nearby, as long as I was in my garage the sheer amount of lead on the shelves would act as a bunker against the radiation. GW alone is probably into the thousands unpainted; including historicals and other fantasy/SF figures I'm easily over ten thousand I would think. It's depressing really so I don't talk about it much lol. On the other hand, if I'm ever stuck for something to paint or if I start a new project, chances are pretty good that I already have *something* I could use towards it on the shelf

This....so much this lol. Just going into my garage to look for something is like digging for gold, and nuggets I had long forgotten I had show up constantly. It's pretty cool actually as long as I don't think about the expense. But then again I don't drink or smoke and I've been at this hobby since 1978 so I figure it could be worse!
A ton of you painted stuff. I can't really count them (in a different city at the moment) but I know I have probably 200-250 skaven models unpainted maybe 150 is a better estimate (or me just being hopefully). Then I have a ton of lord of the rings stuff unpainted or in various disarray. Most of my empire stuff is unpainted, Tau stuff is about half painted and space marines are mostly painted. Some odds and ends here and there have some dindrezi (or however you spell it) ships I want to paint at some point.
Lots of stuff is actually still on sprue or in boxes...I just like to buy stuff is that such a problem?!
9 bikers
3 plague drones
53 cultists
1 helbrutes
1 heltalon
1 helturkey
1'decimator
1 contemptor
Sevarin
1 knight
2 maulerfiends
1 Kytan
2 lords on juggernauts
3 rapier squads
And a partridge in a pear tree.
All a kit bashed so does that count for anything?
I have hundreds of wargaming minis that need painting, but it should be less than 1,000 total. I don't feel any need to torture myself with precisely how many hundreds it might be.
Warboss, Werid boy...6 or so meks including a big mek.
Over three hundred Ork boys. The majority Slugga boyz but well over fifty shoota boyz.
Twenty Deff Koptas
1 Trukk
2 Battlewagons.
11 Burna Boyz...
The list grows on, needless to say a lot.
Death Guard, I can proudly say...Save for the little Daemon army I use from time to time, but have found Nurgle daemons are meh. And that's just fifteen or so models.
4 complete armies for Rackham Confrontation. Plus 3 Titan Dragons, 2 Tarascus, 2 Flesh Golems, and 3 Mid-Nor Hydras.
A box full of old Ilyad models.
3 boxes of assorted Kingdom Death resins, plus the stupid pile of Kingdom Death: Monster and all its expansions (which I haven't even bothered to unpack).
The entire current releases for Cthulhu Wars.
An entire troupe of Red Box Games Varp Kigare.
All the Orc releases from Norsgard, and half the current releases for the Horde.
The entire collections for Lost, Demons, Immortals, and Sarrasins for Helldorado.
A whole bunch of unsorted Anima Tactics miniatures.
A whole bunch of unsorted SMOG miniatures.
Good grief. I give up. I'm never going to finish counting the stuff I have lying around. I estimate all these, plus the boutique stuff I have (Terrible Kids Stuff, Nuts Planet, REN Studio, Siren Miniatures, etc.), around the 3000 to 4000 mark. Enough lead and resin to last me several lifetimes.
I haven't even counted the incoming Kickstarters yet ......
the bits of 40k I cannot put to anything else and not really worth anything to sell...
Orks and Chaos Space Marines and Demons.
Contemplated trying to trade it for something, anything that's not goblins (I've painted too many green things).
Contemplating getting historicals as my next project (like confederates and making a gunline army for 9th age).
I have atleast 3 or 4 armies 2k points worth fantasy in boxes that are garbage now. Couple boxes of space marines and eldar and then the ones glued but not painted go behond my counting for a night lol.
OgreChubbs wrote: I have atleast 3 or 4 armies 2k points worth fantasy in boxes that are garbage now. Couple boxes of space marines and eldar and then the ones glued but not painted go behond my counting for a night lol.
Hell, I have at least a couple of dozen 40K models I bought in 3rd and 4th edition that I haven't painted, and yet I just started on a pair of 15mm fantasy armies!
Well let see here 1200 Battletech Mechs, 120CAV mechs . 12 Zoats ,50 space marine, 30 space Orks and 75 space Dwarfs . OMG!!! I got a lot of painting to do.
I've decided to focus on just painting my Skitarii, Cult Mech, and Imperial Knights. I have about an equal size army of Imperial Fists, and a far larger army of Daemons that have not really been touched. The admech army alone depresses me.
GK- only 13. One is a Stormraven and another is a Land raider though, soooooo....
DE- 162. I don't have an excuse.
Necrons- 59
Dark angels- 41
30k Night Lords- 14
I also ordered a start collecting box of tau and two broadsides that have not come in yet.
I'm just awful. I spend too much time trading and on ebay and not enough time painting.
This is a great thread, just found it. I have a fair amount of work ahead of me.
59 unpainted assorted d20/decent "hero" figures, including a few im painting for the challenge this month.
243 Assorted AD&D/decent/heroquest Monsters
14 Tyranid's
9 Tau's
3 Wolves of Russ in need of beakies.
216 Dark Angels in various states of painting.
44 The Protectorate of Menoth + Mercs (base coated waiting on buddys to be ready to start a tourney)
So my grand total aint as high as i thought it was..588 figures to do, 268 in various stages of painting.. Nothing is sealed.or been "washed" yet..
And pictures.. cuz everything is better with pictures.
Thanks nope.. they will forever be knights 1 and 2 of the gallant lance i really want to use against the stompa formation my neighbors are working on. The final 2 in the court ill probably use magnets for them so can swap out as needed. They both have the melta gun, but the thing on their carapiece/heads can be swapped out, have 1 of each those two gun/missle, for the guys as needed.
come on Master of Ordinance, I did it.. even put up pictures and stuff to make the thread look prettier
JohnHwangDD Those Gallants have been a good supplement to the ravenwing, even just one of them is alot of focused fire for a round or two to let me turbo boost and charge! If they stayed back and shot as a different type of knight, the stompas across the street do wreck my face
I might have a problem. Currently other than a few Kickstarters, I'm not allowed to buy anything until I start clearing some things from my Queue Shelves.
This is an older picture but it is fairly accurate, except for Blood Rage, MERCs, Black Plague, Rum and Bones, and Mantic KS which are still in boxes. I haven't made room for them yet but I'm working on a new system as I started to clean things up better. These two book shelves are currently considered the queue for my backlog. I have another black book shelve like these two that is my actual queue (a couple shelves for needs cleaning/assembly, couple for ready for priming or primed and two for painting).
Then there is the closet. All the boxes still have the miniatures in them, they have yet to go into my queues. That doesn't show the shelves in the garage where stuff is set to dry after airbrushing and my terrain.
Currently other than a few Kickstarters, I'm not allowed to buy anything until I start clearing some things from my Queue Shelves.
Admitting you have a problem is the first step.
I've been plugging away at my IG off and on, with many distractions, but it's getting there...
*looks down in shame*
I admit I have a problem. I have hundreds of times more models than I could possibly paint in a lifetime.
Therefore: I must...
Build a time dilation device allowing me to have orders of magnitude more time to build and paint models, and so that I can accumulate even more! Bwahahahaha
Failing that....
Advance medical technology so that I will live orders of magnitude longer, fix the environmental problems of this planet, divert the giant asteroid headed this way, and fend off the zombie apocalypse so that I can accumulate and paint more models!
And if all else fails...
Just enjoy painting what models I can and lovingly imagine how all those sprues will one day populate game tables
4 kasrkin sergeants, 4 kasrkin flamers and 4 kasrkin grenade launchers (40k) on my painting desk and almost completed.
10 boomhowlers (warmachine) on my painting desk and almost completed.
20 kasrkin with hellguns to do.
10 republic grenadiers (anvil industries) to go.
20 eisenkern storm troopers (Dreamforge) to go.
10 riders of Rohan (lotr 'historicals') and 12 men of numenor to go.
Contents of battle at calth to go.
2 ariadnans (infinity) to paint up.
There is Also a box with assorted lotr elves and some various odds and ends.
This thread makes me feel better and yet somehow worse at the same time...
Behold! The cupboard or Mental Illness! Gaze not too long into its depths or lose your sanity forever....yeah, you can't even see the stuff stacked in behind all that.
About 400 minis, vehicles and assorted terrain in there. I'm with Talys and his plan for getting it all done - hope for significant breakthroughs in longevity science!
Still, on the bright side, I've finished over 800 to date (well, over about 20 years...)
Yeah about a full company of Space Marines (not even sure what they're gonna be yet), a few tanks and a squad of Ig and that's about it for GW. Perry Miniatures is another story...
