The Wolfbrothers - Truvor Ironbound, third attempt  @ 2016/06/24 21:54:22

Post by: Kurnost

So, another not-so-new army for me, but the Wolfbrothers were starting to get a little large to coexist with their Space Wolf cousins on my other blog so they got their own!

Inquisitor Rathmine of the Ordo Hereticus was a steadfast Monodominant, believing utterly that it was the destiny of Mankind to rule the galaxy. As a member of the Ordo Hereticus he dealt with abhumans, mutants and witches day to day, and righteously hated them. He differed from many of his colleagues in that his hatred extended to so-called Sanctioned abhumans such as Ogryns, Ratlings, Navigators and all psykers, regardless of form or function. To his closed mind, anything not baseline human was a corruption of the true form of man and an abomination. Heretically, he believed this of the Adeptus Astartes as well, seeing them as monsters beyond almost all others.
His colleagues, of course, did not see it this way, and despite Rathmine's strident protests they refused to sanction the Space Marines. Rathmine set out to prove his point. To this end he took custody of a Heretek Magos Biologis, promising him life so long as he aided his crusade. The magos unsurprisingly agreed. Rathmine next hired a mercenary band of void pirates to attack a gene-seed tithe shipment and bring the cargo to him, and then to capture pilgrim ships and herd the survivors to him as well.
Knowing little of crafting Space Marines, Rathmine killed more people in the first few months than in his entire life before, but slowly he made some progress. He learned of the age constraints for implantation, and of the specialised diets and hypno-therapy required for organ activation. As he progressed he had the Magos splice additional genetic traits into the human subjects, creating monsters.
After many years of this, one of his subjects, Holgir Bearclaw, was a partial success. He had Fenrisian blood on his father's side, and bonded with the chimeric geneseed- part Blood Angel and Imperial Fist, but primarily Space Wolf- in a way no other had before. Leading an uprising of the test subjects, Holgir slaughtered the mad Rathmine and his crew.

Holgir, called Bearclaw by the Space Wolves for his unnaturally sharp claws, is the leader of the Wolfbrothers. He wears the armour of Rathmine, and bears his mace, a hallowed artefact that has special capacity against daemons and the followers of the Dark Gods. At the last, as Holgir and Rathmine battled, the Inquisitor landed a heavy blow with his mace, smiting Holgir across the chest. When he saw that the blow had not slain him outright, Rathmine realised the truth- and Holgir tore his throat out with a swipe of his claws

The first generation of the Wolfbrothers were created by Rathmine and were little better than glad-warriors, enhanced humans but nowhere near the level of an Astartes. The geneseed they were implanted with, coupled with malnutrition, left many physically mutated as the wulfen- and worse- within them struggled to survive.

The most savagely afflicted of the Wolfbrothers were called, by Holgir at least, the Tithed; they were the price paid so the others could live. Many of these monsters, savage beyond belief, were slain by Rathmine and his guards during the rebellion

A nascent Psyker discovered in a group of tribal Initiates, Gauldur was of the 4th generation and the only Psyker of that generation to fully complete their transformation. For a while, Gauldur was the only Rune Priest of the Chapter. His primary abilities are farseeing and divination, and Holgir relies heavily on his counsel, but on the battlefield he manifests elemental powers that mimic the most powerful Space Wolf Psykers- a fact that greatly pleases him.

Crimson Slaughter Sorcerer, Mastery level 3, Balestar of Mammon, Terminator Armour, Sigil of Corruption, Mark of Tzeentch, Gift of Mutation- Icy Aura

As I'm basically building this Chapter for fun, I rolled up the gifts for all my characters, and was pleasantly surprised to get Icy Aura. Coupled with the Tzeentch power he gets for his Mark, Gauldur wields both ice and fire- as a Space Wolf(ish) psyker should! He'll be getting all that pesky Grey Knights stuff covered over, and will be wielding a storm shield equivalent to represent his 3++ from the Sigil and Mark.
His Icy Aura is the reason for his snow-covered base

Since the Wolfbrothers use chaos rules, they get chaos toys! Like... a Kytan Daemon Engine of Khorne?

Not much done over the weekend, but I did start assembling the Leviathan/ Kytan- this is his gatling cannon

Post by: Kurnost

Finished the Kytan, piloted by Lothar Fryer, and he is a beast! He'll be armoured in red plates, and most of the rest will be bare steel.

Also greenstuffed Gauldur, just waiting for it to dry so I can file, sculpt and start painting

And started repainting Torin, from my Space Wolves, as a Decimator Daemon Engine

Torin was the youngest son of a tribal chief on the icy deathworld of Arctis Minora. The Wolfbrtohers, seeking to expand their ranks, landed there and offered to take any who would come with them. The older men would be enhanced, and the younger men had the chance to become full Wolfbrothers. Some brought daughters, wives and family with them, adding to the genetic pool of the Chapter and potentially providing further recruits,
Torin, had he remained at home, would have at best grown old serving one of his brothers; most likely he would have been slain by an older sibling. He asked for, and was given, permission to join the Wolfbrothers. He passed many of the tests, but was struck down during a tech-scav mission. His injuries were too severe for him to live, but the mission had uncovered a unique dreadnought chassis. Holgir had him installed in it, trusting the youth's powerful will to live would allow him to adapt to his new setting. Since then, with the other dreadnoughts of the Wolfbrothers, Torin has spearheaded many missions and his chassis has been ornately decorated in recognition of his achievements

Will do EDC!

Just started on Gauldur's shield. Had to trim most of the chaos bits off. He'll have that in one hand, with a wrist-mounted storm bolter and a force staff in the other

Also started on The Red Baron's shoulderpads- grey stripe will end up white, the armour panels will be a bright crimson

The warrior known, in Gothic, as Lothar Fryer appeared alongside the Wolfbrothers many years ago, and has fought at their side dozens of times. His war machine, similar to an Imperial Knight, matches no known patterns and is equipped with unique weaponry and advanced defenses. Of his homeworld he is tight-lipped, but he fights the enemies of the Imperium with a cold and unforgiving fervour and this is all Jorek asks of any of his warriors. Lothar's achievements are many, and yet his Knight remains unblemished with devotional depictions and purity seals; the Red Baron sees little use in such frivolity.
He has honour, and will not harm those who stand from his path, but he has been known to go to extraordinary lengths to destroy those who took arms against him; upon Ignia VII he stalked a Word Bearers force for two entire continents, his cannon empty, slaying the traitor marines with blade and boot. Only once the last of the traitors was destroyed did he heed vox hails and return to the drop ships for extraction

A little bit of fluff for my Kytan counts-as, as well as his torso

Still more work to go; progressing slowly! Also, Gauldur has a shoulderpad

I bought some of the termos-type iron wolf pads from Puppetswar as well, but they're immense! More suited for Centurion-sized models unfortunately

The incidence of Wulfen degeneration is even higher amongst the Wolfbrothers than the Space Wolves, and such warriors are far more savage. This is doubtless due to their chimeric gene-seed; a Wolfbrother Wulfen does not just have the Wolf Within to contend with, but even darker psychological daemons to fight. While they are known simply as beasts or failures in the writings of Inquisitor Rathmine, to Holgir and the other Wolfbrothers they have a deeper significance. Each such warrior was once a man, a brother and a friend, who lost the battle against the inner darkness. For this reason, they are treated with respect and mourned as if dead, for no such warrior has ever regained their humanity once so changed. It was through the strength and sacrifice of such warriors that Holgir was able to liberate his brothers from the mad Rathmine, and he strives day and night to prevent the incidence of their condition in later generations of Initiates.
It was Kodlak the Hunter, Sternhammer and commander of the 13th Wulfen Guard, who first gave these warriors a title. "Everything comes with a price," he said. "And these warriors have paid that tithe so that others may be spared it." Henceforth, in the annals of the Wolfbrothers, such warriors are known as Tithed.

Built most of these guys a while ago, but recently dusted them off and picked up a box of Vargheists to finish the squad at 10 strong. They use the Apocalypse Tide of Spawn rules, and will doubtless grow in number when I can find the time.

Created by Ward-Captain Felessan to battle the Steel Brethren in the aftermath of the 13th Black Crusade, the Ward-Wulfen are enhanced soldiers specially bred for savagery and resilience.

Kolvjon was Holgir’s first successful Space Marine, and a great step up from the modified human soldiers Holgir had been able to create up to that point. Despite falling to the Wulfen curse, Kolvjon had an instinctive grasp of warfare; more akin to the hunting movements of a pack rather than an army, but perfectly suited to the rag-tag Wolfbrother packs in existence at the time. Mounted atop a genebred hunting beast, a gift from Johran Redbeard for saving his life, and wielding a heavy power sword, Kolvjon is a common sight leading the charge of the Wulfen.

Much fluff for your viewing pleasure!

Truvor, later called Ironbound, was a pilgrim child when his convoy was ambushed and seized by void pirates working for Inquisitor Rathmine. As he was only young, Truvor was spared but witnessed the slaughter of all the men too old to be converted, and all the women as well. His rage at this act of barbarism sustained him through Rathmine's experiments. He was considered a failure by Rathmine, for he retained his mind and his human form and did not degenerate like so many others. For a long time Truvor was the unspoken leader of Rathmine's captives, and it was he who hatched the plan to kill Rathmine and all his soldiers, a plan only put into action when Holgir was created and found to be able to control the worst of the Wulfen.
During the fighting to take the space station from Rathmine, Truvor was savagely wounded. Holgir desperately worked to save him, finally binding him into a medical exoskeleton. This drastic surgery saved his life but meant he could never again leave the armour. He still retains this armour centuries later, although the plasteel plating has been replaced with stronger materials long ago.

On the wartorn streets of Cadia, Truvor's pack of enhanced humans came upon a squad of Iron Warriors terminators. Although they took savage casualties, and less than a third of the pack survived, they triumphed, Truvor tearing the throat from the enemy sergeant after several minutes of brutal fighting. When the armour was recovered the Iron Priests were astonished to discover who had killed them and, with the blessing of Jorek Greatwolf, remade the armour for the survivors of the battle, replacing shattered components with items from their own armouries as needed. The surviving warriors were presented with this armour at a ceremony before all the Wolf Lords of the Lost Companies, and became the first terminator pack of the new Wolfbrothers Chapter

Of all the warriors of the pack, Truvor's Herald is one of the most enigmatic. This is partially due to his amnesia, a side effect of Rathmine's work. His first memories are of waking amidst the others in the cramped brig of Rathmine's space station. Additionally, his senses are so heightened that he cannot abide normal light or sound levels and always wears a helmet with autosense inhibitors to reduce both light and noise level to something he can tolerate, so few have ever seen his face. He has been with Truvor for centuries, and bears a flaming cauldron upon his armour, a physical representation of the flame of humanity that he fights to keep alive.

Buoyed by his initial success with Kolvjon, Holgir Bearclaw set out to create more fully space marine Wolfbrothers. Whilst he was successful, almost all of his creations degenerated into Wulfen before long. Although he was saddened by this, Holgir did not destroy any of them- he was not Rathmine after all. In the course of the 13th Black Crusade, he sent Kolvjon and his Wulfen out time and again to bolster Imperial forces. Each pack of Wulfen brothers was led by an alpha, and despite their nature these warriors became heroes, after a fashion

Vilka was almost completely through the transformation process when the Curse of the Wulfen took him. Now the fallen warrior leads a Wulfen pack rather than the squad of Wolfbrothers Holgir had hoped to assign him. Still clad in finely-wrought power armour, Vilka’s savage charges have broken the back of many enemy defence lines.

Crimson Slaughter Possessed Champion, 2 Gifts of Mutation (Meteoric Charge and Mechanoid)

Norugun is one of the most lucid of the Wulfen Champions, and his armour bears enhancements that make him a far deadlier warrior on the battlefield. These upgrades were personally crafted by Norugun between battles.

Crimson Slaughter Possessed Champion, 2 Gifts of Mutation (Warp Claws, Cosmic Fate)

Another of Kolvjon’s Wulfen Champions, Traven is a savage and unrelenting warrior, scarcely more in control than his packmates.

Crimson Slaughter Possessed Champion, 2 Gifts of Mutation (Multiple Boons; Mind of Metal, Crystalline Body, Cerebral Cogitator, All-Consuming Hatred)

Some more terminator-y goodness for everyone. Had to re-arm (haha) a terminator since I'd earmarked the next set of chaos lord lightning claws for another project... anyway....

So that takes the squad to 10 strong, now all I need to do is get started on their Land Raider then paint the lot! Rules:

Chaos Terminator squad, 10 models, Veterans of the Long War, Mark of Tzeentch. 1 has heavy flamer and power maul, 3 have twin lightning claws, 5 have power fists and combi-bolters, 1 has Icon of Flame, heavy flamer and powerfist, champion Truvor has power sword, combi-bolter and gift of mutation (blademaster)

So, contrary to what I said, the Herald is not done... I finished him, but he looked so out of place in his finery among the others with their scrappy as armour that I had to redo him. I think take 2 fits better, and since he's almost done I'll complete him pretty swiftly. As for the others, 2 have greenstuff curing on them right now and 2 need their initial painting finished then they can be washed black... But the others are pretty close to done!
Also started on the land raider but no pics, it's pretty bog standard

Hello!
Dusted off some old models earlier this evening, and finally got the look right for one!
I'm building a Helfist Murderpack from the Helbrutes dataslate as a kind of chaos-themed Conclave of Ancients. Basically, 5 Helbrutes in a squadron, one gets the Character special rule and an Aura of Dark Glory (5++) and gets to choose the Crazed! result instead of rolling for it. If the Helbrute leader dies, the others get Rage.
In the interests of fun I've added the Veteran of the Scouring Legacy of Ruin from Imperial Armour 13 to the Helbrute champion, and modelled him like a Contemptor, creating Bonrod the Roarer!

Bonrod’s home was a prosperous human world that was run by the survivors of a Rogue Trader family. When the Space Marines of the Executioners Chapter contacted the still-loyal enclave, they declared them secessionists and made savage war upon them, finally destroying them outright. Bonrod and a few other survivors fled blindly into the Warp aboard a damaged warship and were recovered by the Lost Companies. Despite becoming a Space Marine himself, Bonrod’s hatred of the killers of his world has never abated.

Helbrute, Veteran of the Scouring, Pack Leader, Twin-Linked Lascannon, Thunder Hammer

And for size:

So far, only 1 of his pack is close to being finished, Scut Foesplitter

Scut was the son of one of the void-pirates serving Inquisitor Rathmine. His father was unpopular, and when he died on a raid the remaining pirates enacted revenge on his family, adding Scut to their captives and turning him over to Rathmine. After he was changed, Scut burned with desire for revenge and helped Holgir and Truvor plan their assault on the pirates. After this, he quickly rose through the ranks of the Wolfbrothers, leading many packs in battle. In life, his preferred weapon was a heavy chainsword salvaged from the aftermath of a chaos attack. As a dreadnought, his clawed fists lay waste to his foe. He takes his name from his tendency to seize his enemies up in his hands and tear them asunder, an effective and terrifying method to despatch traitor Astartes.

Helbrute, twin Power Fists, Combi-Bolter, Heavy Flamer

Whilst T'Garran of Necromunda is being remodelled

Son of a Necromundan guardswoman and a Muricanth pilot, T’garran has been with the Lost Companies from birth. His time as a Wolfbrother lasted a mere two decades before injury forced his internment in a dreadnought. The chassis he pilots is, more properly, an H-grade servitor chassis, but it performs the same life-support functions as a Dreadnought and mounts two hardpoint heavy weapons with which T’garran dominates the battlefield.

Helbrute, Missile Launcher, Reaper Autocannon

The other two, Eichen Brass-Hull and Harlon Wrathhand, will most likely be more Khador Warjack bodies, hope to have them posted soon!

Possibly the strongest Wulfen of the Wolfbrothers, certainly of Kolvjon’s Company, Matrim takes to the field wielding an ancient and deadly Fenrisian spear tipped with kraken’s teeth, a gift from Kodlak Sternhammer.

I've finally found a use for the mantic ghouls I got with the KoW starter! Pics to follow...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The first experiments of Inquisitor Rathmine were monstrosities that died within hours of gene-seed implantation. Later generations of soldiers were founded that, while lacking the attributes of true Astartes, possessed some animalistic traits. Usually they were skinny, malnourished things that burned with incredible rage and lived for days at most before their systems failed or they tore each other apart. With further geneseed experimentation Rathmine was able to stabilise these warriors, and it is from such groups that heroes such as Truvor Ironbound were born

Later generations were more feral again, bearing distorted limbs or bestial features

The most savagely debased of such generations were only a hair from turning fully Wulfen

It was only the latest generations, of which Holgir Bearclaw was one, that began to take a shape like that of man, although they were still noticeably abhuman

So, in order, Mantic Ghouls with head swaps, Beastmen Ungors, Skaven Plague Monks, GW Ghouls and Cadians with bitz from the Ungors.

The Mantic dudes are almost totally ready, just some guns needed, the Ungors need wolf paws or similar in greenstuff to replace their hooves, the Skaven need a facelift to look like wolfmen, the GW Ghouls will have a furry strip running from their heads to their tailbones and the Cadian guys are almost perfect.

When they're done they'll be forming the Cultists for Holgir's Lost and Damned formation, so they'll all have FnP, Furious Charge, Rage and Counter-Attack :p

To celebrate a century fighting alongside one another, the Lost Companies bequeathed to the Wolfbrothers an Ironclad dreadnought, the second such weapon they had given the young Chapter. The warrior Kazimir was interred within it when he fell, and the dreadnought became known as Kazimir Hearthrazer, for the destruction it inflicted on the lairs of the myriad foe

<Ferrum Infernum dreadnought, Destroyer of Cities, Dedication of Nurgle>

Also, had a rethink on T'Garran's weaponry. He'll have a single autocannon mounted each side for his reaper autocannon, and the missile launcher on top

Evening all!
Much greenstuff work. Finally got around to starting the feet for the Ungor cultists, and did some fur on the Tithed I made out of Rat Ogres. They looked meh earlier but they're getting there. Also general gap filling, hair and such, and worked up a join for Bonrod's thunder hammer so it looks like it'd work and isn't just sitting there weirdly

Bonrod is on the lineup for paint, and I just started turning a Rat Ogre head into a wolf-ish head as practice for the Clanrat heads I need to fix

Automatically Appended Next Post:
After the horrors of the Cadian battlefields during the 13th Black Crusade, and the distrustful and often violent actions of other Imperial forces towards them, Jorek and the other Lords of the Althing voted to leave the defence of the Imperium to others and look to their own strengths for a time. Holgir, whose forces had often been misidentified as mutant rabble and attacked more than once by Astra Militarum forces, was one of the most vocal in demanding this course of action. The Companies jumped blindly into the Warp, trusting their Rune Priests to deliver them safe from harm.
When they reemerged, they were near a planetary system of nine worlds, and they took to settling and defending these planets as their own. The Space Wolves took for their own a planet they christened The Wandering Star in Gothic, for alone of the nine worlds it occupied an erratic orbit that took it deep into space and back, to pass between the systems two dim suns. The Taghmata Hvergelmir took the planet closest to the stars, a planet with a natural iron crust constantly bombarded by solar radiation, yet high in raw materials. They turned their arts to the creation of a small forge-fane therein, and secure subterranean bunkers for their human soldiers and magi. The Clans of Urd took the fourth world, a large and verdant planet of sweeping grasslands. The Wolfbrothers chose a planet on the furthest edge of the habitable zone for their own.
This planet, christened Itrium, was home to a technologically regressed human society of hunter-gatherers. Three moons surrounded it, and vast evergreen forests covered its only land mass. Great xenoform predators haunted the deep jungles and oceans alike, and the people of Itrium had much skill fighting such beasts. Onto the people of Itrium, a mutagenic compound was unleashed. This was designed to rewrite their genetics to make them easier to turn into Wolfbrothers, just as the Fenrisian strain of humanity was adapted to become Space Wolves. This event, called the Forging by the Wolfbrothers, was ever after known as The Purge by those who survived it. While the mutagen did rewrite their genome, it also killed over a third of the planet's already sparse population.

A new sub-chapter of the Wolfbrothers is coming....

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Unknown to Holgir, or indeed any amongst the Wolfbrothers, the humans inhabiting Itrium had a recessive mutant trait. One in several hundred would, at puberty, grow into a hulking monster many times the height of a man. These Great Ones, as they were known, were forbidden from leadership of a tribe and would exile themselves to the darkest forests to battle the twisted beasts within. When The Purge swept across Itrium the Great Ones were transformed further, becoming wulfen-like monsters in appearance but retaining their intellect and personalities.

So that's most of the squad; I'm using the Renegades and Heretics list for this part of the army, many mutant rabble squads to represent the altered tribesmen, and Tharn warriors as Great Ones. I actually bought the Tharn to round out my Wulfen, but they make the current GW Wulfen look almost petite by comparison. Rules-wise, the Great Ones are Ogryns, with carapace armour and Dedication of Nurgle, for that all-important FnP. They also have Curse of Mutation for some extra shenanigans.

Also been working on the final 2 Helbrutes for The Shield of the Lost, my Helfist Murderpack led by Bonrod. Eichen Brass-Hull is a pretty basic 'brute with powerfist and missile launcher, Harlon Wrathhand will have twin power scourges modeled as morning stars sized appropriately for his frame.

I'd also like to apologise for the weird coloured plastic, it's the new WarmaHordes starter sets. The red for Khador especially does not photograph well

When the Iron Priests equipped Truvor Ironbound's pack, they did so with great haste. The shattered terminator armour was easily rebuilt, for they had done this many times over, but the issue of transport was one not so easily addressed. The achievements of the young Wolfbrothers had to be honoured properly, for they were truly saga-worthy. A Land Raider was sought, and it was the packs of Ulfun Alf-Ven who captured one, returning the damaged but usable vehicle to the Iron Priests. Hastily repairing the damage done to the exterror with plasteel patches, the Iron Priests laboured for three days without rest to restore the engine and weapon systems to Imperial standard. It was a contingent of Thrall artificers, tasked with repainting the vehicle's hull, that added the Chapter icon on the front hatch.

Still much work to be done, but getting there. Thinking I'll do something like the Mk 1 under-over lascannons instead of the standard side by side... Watch this space

The Wolfbrothers, always on the lookout for new weapons, often turn to the Taghmata Hvergelmir. The Techpriests are able to equip the Chapter with experimental or recovered technology not found elsewhere, providing the young Chapter with a substantial force multiplier as needed. One of the most enduring designs is the Sicorax Walker, named for Enginseer Sicorax, a prominent vehicular weaponsmith amongst the Taghmata. This powerful bipedal walker mounts a variety of advanced systems including teleport homer, shields generators, a pair of immense melee weapons, and advanced firearms and energy weapons for ranged warfare.

So I repurposed a pretty damaged Nemesis Dreadknight for this. It's a Soul Grinder, and I've given it Warp Gaze and Warpsword upgrades. It also has Daemon of Khorne. The Nemesis Greatsword will be the Warpsword, and I'm still deciding between the Defiler claw and the Thunderstrike Gauntlet for the Iron Claw. The Harvester cannon will be an Icarus cannon from the Stormhawk Interceptor. The Warp Gaze is a cnversion beamer-sorta thing

And the Warp Gaze:

Also some work on Truvor's Pack; they're almost done. Here's their Land Raider as of an hour ago:

When Inquisitor Rathmine embarked on his heretical studies, he did not do so alone. Whilst he was the most vocal- and possibly the patsy in another Inquisitor's far-reaching plan- others supported him covertly. One of these was Inquisitor Gomes, who had provided the details of the gene-seed shipments to Rathmine. When Gauldur Stoneseer divined her location, the entire Lost Companies mobilised to destroy her for her insult to the Sons of Russ.
Gomes had a sizable base secreted on the moon of an otherwise unremarkable system, and the fighting to take this base was savage in the extreme. At the height of the battle, the Astartes were assailed by powerful combat walkers not unlike Dreadnoughts, piloted by human warriors from Gomes' private army. Powerful though they were, the Wolfbrothers and Space Wolves were out to annihilate and they left none alive. The dreadnoughts were shattered by the powerfists and melta bombs of Blood Claw packs, who had lost many to these unexpected foes. Gomes, a truly ancient woman, was hauled from her life-preserving medical pod and ripped apart, spitting invective to the last.
As they looted the armoury and prepared to destroy the base, the Iron Priest Olric Winterhand identified STC data corresponding to the battle walkers, and had a team of servitors salvage what they could.
The walkers were of a class of Dreadnought that predated the Great Crusade. While the chassis they recovered were more recent constructions, the STC data was eagerly added to the Iron Priests machine-lore. The dreadnoughts were repaired and, as thanks, turned over to the Wolfbrothers to bolster their fighting strength

The Shield of the Lost; Bonrod the Roarer, Scut Foesplitter, Harlon Wrathhand, T'Garran of Necromunda and Eichen Brass-Hull assembled as one for the first time.

They're probably 50% done, and I need some more cityscape 60mm bases, but I should have that by tomorrow

So, another day of tea, cheese and painting dawns- this is the life!

Hoping to finish my first pack of wulfen, all the tithed, and 2 laser destroyer rapiers by the end of the day, and the crew for all my rapiers as well. Here's how some of them are

Wulfen

Laser Destroyer without controls

With blu-tacked controls

And a crewmember, a spotter for one of the carriers

There's another Laser Destroyer to go, and 9 crewmembers to be completed

Thanks Shasolenzabi! He has 9 brothers still to come

Finished up my HQ choices for this army with Kolvjon, the Lord of Beasts; a Khorne Lord on Juggernaut with The Blade of the Relentless

And completed the Elites choices with Wulfrik Voidwalker, a Chaos Contemptor Dreadnought of Nurgle with Butcher Cannon (forthcoming) Chainfist and Soul Burner

Wulfrik was originally a Contemptor ceded to the 2nd Founding Wolf Brothers Chapter; who remained loyal when his company turned to Chaos. He was found in a stasis-field, heavily damaged, and restored to working order. He joined the new Wolfbrothers Chapter and acts as a link to their past and a warden who constantly watches for signs of corruption from his new brothers.
The idea was to create something that was once a work of art and has aged considerably, a kind of faded glory still clinging to it despite this. How'd I do?

Kolvjon has a bodyguard of Berserkers on Juggernauts, using fan-made rules for the unit. They're basic Wolfbrothers on Raging Heroes Cyberwolves; bigger and nastier than GW Thunderwolves by a little bit. I'm thinking I might continue the idea with counts-as Noise Marines on Steeds of SLaanesh using some sort of fast-seeming non-wolf mounts, some Plague Marines on Palanquins probably modelled as just big dudes, maybe bears, and some Chosen of Tzeentch on Discs modelled as Jetbikes, probably using the Maxmini Gothic Jetbike models. Watch this space!

Nothing hugely exciting right now, just a reshuffle of the relics I'm arming my characters with, since the newest FAQ states one per model

Kolvjon, the Lord of Beasts, will lose his Slave to the Voices relic and the Blade of the Relentless, replacing it with the Axe of Blind Fury (mostly for initiative AP2) This is the only daemon weapon I plan to include, and fluff-wise its effects more represent Kolvjon's own unhinged nature

Gauldur Stoneseer will be unchanged, having only the Bale-Star of Mammon

Holgir Bearclaw will be reduced to just wearing Daemonheart, and will no longer have The Slaughterer's Horns or the Crozius of the Dark Covenant. I'm not 100% on that, the Crozius might be a better fit. I'll see.

I'm still working on the Wolfbrothers and all my other projects, just had some issues finding the time to paint and photograph.

Anyway, a character and a new breed of Wulfen (for yet another formation....) incoming soon

Automatically Appended Next Post:
In the very early years of the 42nd millenium, the Nine Worlds came under attack by a sizeable force of Steel Brethren traitor marines. This warband, born from the Iron Warriors Legion, laid siege to the system and very nearly captured it. The Space Wolves, still recovering their strength from the draining, desperate war against the 13th Black Crusade, were unable to stymie the traitor advance. The Wolfbrothers, scarcely stronger but better able to replace their losses, bore the brunt of the fighting. In this war, entire companies were committed to the fighting to hold for just a moment longer. The casualties suffered by the Wolfbrothers were staggering, and without their skilled geneticists the Chapter would have fallen in battle.
One of the forces created was a refinement of the Grey Warden genome, designed to create incredibly resilient Wulfen warriors to hold off the Steel Brethren assault. These Grey Wulfen were grotesquely muscled brutes, but they possessed the stamina of the Grey Wardens and the savage strength of the Wulfen. Led by a Helwulf battle leader, they fought and died to destroy the Steel Brethren.

So this is the first of many Grey Wulfen I have planned. They'll be built entirely from Spellcrow bits, as that gives them a stockiness missing from GW marines. As the Wolfbrothers use Chaos rules, the Grey Wulfen are built around the Black Legion formation, The Tormented. The possessed squads have Mark of Nurgle for WS, S, T and I 5 warriors with 2 attacks standard and Rending. Their Helwulf battle leader will be a Slaaneshi Daemon Prince, so it has Fleet as well.
This guy is a Possessed Champion with the gifts that grant a 2+ save and +1 Attack

F'Lor Martol accompanied Great Company N'Ton when they returned to the Imperium after the war against the Steel Brethren, bearing with them the technological discoveries of the Taghmata Hvergelmir and providing desperately-needed reinforcement for the Astra Militarum and Adeptus Astartes forces battling across the wreckage of the Cadian Gate

Morning Dakka! A lot of Dwarf/ Duardin-centric bitz on the Wolfbrothers today.
I've settled on a look for Truvor, he needs a lot more work but basically as you see below

with the Dwarf shoulder bits on both legs, a resculpted waist, power cables leading up the legs, and a heavier back to his armour. Something like a combination of the beetle-back and peahead terminator models

Also finalised the look for the Grey Wardens, my Wolfbrother Plague Marine stand-ins. Fluff-wise, they were created to cage The Tithe. Their gene-seed has been shifted to enhance the Imperial Fist gene-seed attributes within them which created strong, mentally hardy but slow and deliberate warriors. Their shields are also their plague knives, capable of delivering a powerful shock if needed. So here's their champion, Duncan

Also, a bit randomly, I've been using the old Berserker arms for the Wolfbrothers because they're a little bit primitive looking. I noticed this similarity between some of their elbow things and the shield bosses of the Fyreslayers. I know its a coincidence but I think it ties the two bitz together well

So, no group shot today but some work on my characters,. Duncan of the Grey Wardens and N'Ton ElÓban, Lord of Great Company N'Ton

Duncan is nearly done, just needs paint on his bolter and backpack and some squadmates. Rules wise (and apologies if I've already posted this) he's a Plague Champion with comnbi-bolter, power maul and plague knife

The lord of Great Company N'Ton fights with a unique but effective combat style that utilises a lightning claw and an energy disruption shield. Attacks that strike the shield can be reflected back in the form of laser bolts that can core a terminator at a dozen paces.
Rules-wise, N'Ton is Lucius the Eternal

They're well worth it EDC!

The Legion lists are more than sweet, but for this iteration of the Wolfbrothers I'm sticking with the Crimson Slaughter for their beast-possessed Troops units; the second finest counts-as Wulfen besides the Death Company

Also, from a storytelling perspective (This being primarily a display army) I've found that a warlord trait from either the Personal or Codex trees really helps to settle a character's personality. Perhaps they're hellishly resilient, or are able to outthink any opponent? Perhaps (like Gauldur) they're sane in comparison to their brothers but still a raving lunatic

Anywho have a good one~!

Morning dakka!
I've been going through the chaos formations since Traitor's Hate was released and I keep coming back to the Cult of Destruction. That many heavy weapons and extra attacks from the Warpsmiths... yes please! The issue is, the Wolfbrothers don't have technoviral soldiers. So I had an idea I'd like to run by you: a version of terminator armour with a servo harness attachment that mounts many heavy weapons. The idea would be to fit each squad of Onager Terminators with 4 or 5 weapons options instead of the full 8. The left arm would be a powerfist while the right arm would carry a heavy weapon. You can already get assault cannon, plasma cannon and multi melta arms, and the plastic plasma blasters from Betrayal at Calth should be a good twin-linked plasma gun option. The other weapons would be fitted one to each arm of the servo harness.
What do you think?

So I ended this year on a high note, gaming-wise: I won a solid victory against a 1500 pt Space Wolf force with the Wolfbrothers.

Worth mentioning, my opponent is probably TFG- he gets rules wrong, where it benefits him, but will call the slightest mistake if it stands to provide a bonus for you. I've fought him before. He got in touch the other day and asked if I wanted to play another 30K match again. I said no, but told him I'd wanted to take my Chaos for a run for a while. He jumped at it after I told him I wouldn't be running Legions or Formations. We settled on a 1500 point CAD only. No fortifications, no allies, no Lords of War.

I had Kolvjon, Lord of Beasts (Juggernaut khorne lord, axe of Blind Fury, Sigil of Corruption, boon), 40 Wolfbrother wulfen in 2 squads of 20 (possessed, mark of Khorne, banner, champion has 2 boons) and 2 Chaos rapiers with quad heavy bolters.
He had a Thunderwolf lord with Claws, armour of Russ and 2 Wolves, 2 squads of 10 Grey Hunters, 15 Blood Claws in a Stormwolf, a Stormfang, 2 vindicators and a whirlwind.

We deployed on a 4 by 4 table, both pretty much at the limit of our deployment zones.I had to remind him about flyers starting reserves. I ended up going first.

Turn 1 I rolled Beasts for both Possessed packs and dashed across the field. His furthest Grey Hunter pack,, took 3 casualties from long-range quad heavy bolter fire. I ran the possessed squads into ruins, trusting their beast form to protect them from the dangerous terrain. He fired the whirlwind onto the possessed, killing 3, but was out of range with his vindicators and failed to kill anything with his grey hunters.

Turn 2 I rolled beasts for Kolvjon's pack and Incorporeal Form for the other pack, granting them a 3++. Both packs moved forward, the incorporeal pack towards the tanks, Kolvjon's pack towards the grey hunters. The rapiers hammered the second grey hunter pack and killed them outright. The Incorporeal possessed charged the whirlwind, rending it down neatly. Kolvjon's pack charged in and I called a challenge. His pack leader answered the possessed champion's call, lost, and the possessed champion Booned into a daemon prince. The other possessed ripped the grey hunters apart and consolidated towards the wolf lord. His vindicators hammered the possessed pack that had killed the whirlwind, but their 3++ meant only a handful were killed.

Turn 3 I moved Kolvjon out of his pack, leaving him standing around. The Daemon Prince went towards the vindicators. I rolled spirit beacons for the unit closest to the tanks, and incorporeal form for the other. I moved Kolvjon's pack to give me the best angle on the wolf lord, ran the others across the field. The Daemon prince made his charge into the rear of a vindicator and smashed it, unsurprisingly. The possessed charged the wolf lord, who challenged their champion.... But their was no one to answer the challenge and he died to weight of attacks.

Turn 4 I prepared to win amazingly! Kolvjon rejoined his pack, the other possessed stood around not doing much, and the daemon prince charged the vindicator. He absolutely failed to kill it. My opponent had his stomwolf and stormfang arrive at the start of his turn (he'd rolled horribly for reserves thus far), reversed his vindicator, and blew the daemon prince into shards. His Stormfang targeted the possessed, hitting them with a dispersed helfrost blast and killing 5, while his lascannons missed. In his assault phase, his bloodclaws failed a charge into Kolvjon's pack, but lost no-one since possessed have no guns for overwatch.

Turn 5, I rolled Beasts for both packs. I moved them swiftly across the board. In my shooting phase the far-off rapier carriers woodpeckered the Vindicator to death, as they could see its rear armour. In assault I charged the Blood Claws with 1 pack and the Stormwolf with the other. The stormwolf survived, the blood claws did not.
it's worth mentioning I forgot Kolvjon's daemon weapon special rule, so never rolled for it.
In his turn, he zoomed the Stormfang off the board, but forgot to move the stormwolf and it died in his assault phase, leaving him with nothing on the field.

I won by default, but it was still a win!

So, some more work on finishing off the various projects I've started: Rebased and finished painting Norugun and some of his pack, swapped Kolvjon's sword for an axe to represent the Axe of Blind Fury, and worked on my Skullcrushers unit that I will be running in a later CAD

Apologies for the pictures, they're from my phone, taken hastily.

The rules for the Skullcrushers are fan-made, I found them online. They're oddly enough not OP ridiculous, being basic Berserkers with the upgrades from a Juggernaut. I might make a squad for my actual Khorne forces later. The banner, which will have the Storm Wolf on it, is from the Centigor kit of old

Thanks Shaso! It was more luck than judgement, but still good! And yeah, the banner bearer is one of my favourites of all my thunderwolf-ish things I own (and I have quite a few...)

I discovered a small problem when I went to finish the juggernaut riders... I'm out of the snarling wolf shoulder pads so I'll need a few weeks to acquire more. Far from stopping, I'll be getting stuck into the cultists for the Wolfbrothers, since I have a ton of those and they barely wear clothes let alone power armour. Expect many misshapen wolfmen to appear herein

"Torygg Geneweaver, the genius geneticist of the Wolfbrothers, was responsible for many incredible breakthroughs in Space Marine genetics. It was by his refinement of earlier work that the Wulfen gene was reduced, and viable Wolfbrothers could be produced. Of less fame but of far wider consequence was the genetic work he did on refining the humans who accompanied the Wolfbrothers. While never approaching the power of those who underwent gene-seed implantation, these humans were incredibly resilient and keen of senses. Torygg was often accompanied by squads of these modified humans, as guards and assistants."

These two gents represent some of Torygg's thralls during the Steel War of the early 42nd millenium. Torygg reactivated his enhancement program mid-war to produce more capable soldiers.

And something else!

"When Great Company N'Ton returned to the Imperium after the Steel War, they took with them everything they would need to function as an army, including new Initiates. These young Wolfbrothers were armed as Thrall soldiers, and took to the field wearing void-suits commonly utilised throughout the Imperium"

This guy is the first of the Lost and Damned formation attached to Great Company N'Ton. As with all the Company, he uses the rules for the Mark of Slaanesh and so is I4. He will also have an extra stat upgrade thanks to the Rapture Battalion's Combat Drugs rule. I expect he and his brothers will be far more dangerous than normal cultists

"Forged by the Tech-Savant Sicorax, of the Taghmata Hvergelmir, this war machine mounts unusually powerful motive systems for a walker of its size, along with independently tracking rapid-firing autocannons and a powerful but short-ranged beam weapon"

Rules-wise, it's a Khorne Daemonkin Soul Grinder, to accompany Great Company Kolgrimm

I need to add the beam weapon (wherever I put that...) remove the Blood Angels icons and fill the gaps with greenstuff. I might also modify the armour to look less Dreadknight-y

Thanks EDC. The Soul Grinder has been in the works for a loooonng time now, good to almost have it done

On that note, more pics! I found the beam cannon (Soul Grinder Warp Gaze) and put that on. along with some wires and bitz to finish the look. The pose is a little static but that's cool, I envision it standing reolute over the battlefield, scanning for enemy forces while small arms fire rattles off its armour.... Then it sights a target and engages with extreme prejudice before repeating the process.
I took the wolf thing off the front. I'm thinking either cover the gap with greenstuff as a single panel, or cut and fit a giant wolf skull into the gap... I'm leaning towards the panel more, as this thing isn't really a Wolfbrother device and wouldn't have permanent heraldry built in.
Let me know your thoughts

Hey EDC, yeah he's a monster... It's awesome. Took him for a quick spin; learned the hard way to steer clear of the Bloodthirster with the strength D axe.... But killed a few Imperial Knights and some super-heavy tanks in other battles, and shot that Bloodthirster down in a rematch

But I digress!

Been working on the Iron Priest, Olric Winterhand who, of his own volition, joined the Wolfbrothers so they had someone experienced running their Chapter Forge. Rules-wise he's a Black Legion Warpsmith with the Eye of Night artefact. He looks like a tricked-out Long Fang because he basically is, the beam cannon he carries (his own design, of course) can either fire single blasts (the Curse Machine ability) or be overcharged to unleash a heavier blast (the one-shot Eye of Night effect). He's not finished; still needs the melta and flamer his mechatendrils give him, and some grenades. I'm going to add a frost blade bayonet to his gun to represent his power axe.

Also did some more work on the Sicorax Walker

Puttering through the bitz boxes earlier, I concocted this steampunk minigun looking thing; and since Wulfrik Voiwalker was missing a gun arm I decided it'd be a good fit. It's a butcher cannon, so 36" S8 AP4 Heavy 4 goodness

The book is there primarily because I had to cut the hell out of the shoulderpad to fit the cannon and fittings, particularly the double toothed cogs that seem to adjust elevation/ depression. Now that I'm looking at the model I think replacing one of the kneepads with a wolf icon from the Wolf Guard terminators, adding some fur on the left shoulder or combining that with a Wolfbrothers symbol, probably a loin cloth/ fur, and some bitz that make it look like Wulfrik's ancient chassis has been put back together by well-meaning amateurs... Because it was.

Also his chainfist needs a soul burner or similar, and a havoc launcher on the carapace to complete the look.

Almost finished the painting on the Sicorax, need to finish highlighting the eyes though. Also, need some help: Does the grey banner blend too much? I was thinking I'd take it off, greenstuff the back into some fur and paint it up as a pelt with an engraved wolf's head. Thoughts?

I think I'll stick with the grey banner, there's too much else I need to sort for this army to worry about it too much

On a random, fluff-ish, note, this Guilliman thing is intriguing... I already have the Wolfbrothers returning to the Imperium M42, Great Company N'Ton being the only surviving full-strength Company the Wolfbrothers could muster after the horrors of the Steel War. N'Ton's forces are sent to make contact with the Imperial Fists, Blood Angels and Space Wolves, and carry with them the cumulative gene-lore of their Chapter which could aid the Space Wolves against the Curse of the Wulfen and the Blood Angels against The Flaw (and particularly aid the Flesh Tearers). They make contact with Imperial forces in the ruins of the Cadian Gate, where the stave off an assault by Black Legion forces. The army they fight alongside directs them to the Ultramarines, the commanders of the defence efforts, where they meet Cato Sicarius who doesn't at all trust or believe them.

The small issue here is that (as rumour has it) Sicarius is one of Guilliman's envoys.... Will The Primarch listen to his envoy's suspicions, or will he take the gift of an advanced, well-armed, allied force to aid in protecting the Imperium?

Wulfrik Voidwalker, the ancient Contemptor dreadnought of the Wolfbrothers, was once a much different creature. As a Space Wolf he fought through the Heresy and later Scouring, cleansing the tainted worlds of the traitors alongside his legion and Primarch. Then he was called Bloodfang, a berserker of horrifying excess and darkest rumour. When not fighting his rage led him to gnaw upon his shield, armour or lips, and he was very closely watched by the Wolf Priests. He amassed a savage tally of slain foes, and when he finally fell he was interred in one of the few remaining Contemptor dreadnoughts the Legion possessed; for his rage was sorely needed in those times. When the Codex Astartes of Guilliman was finalised and implemented, Wulfrik Bloodfang was turned over to the Wolf Brothers Chapter with many other weapons of war, and his rage was lauded amongst the new Chapter, eager as they were to make a name for themselves separate from their parent Legion.

The tale of the fall of the Wolf Brothers is a dire one indeed, and is recount4ed elsewhere, but as they fell into mutation and madness the Dreadnoughts were often called upon to lead or advise for they were lucid where others were not. Wulfrik himself, although battle-crazed, was also incredibly loyal to the Emperor and he guided many warriors back from the brink of damnation. Eventually however, the Ordo Astartes intervened, declaring the Chapter tainted beyond reconciliation. Wulfrik was with a particularly vicious group of his brothers when the warning of the coming purge was received from Fenris. Incensed by what they saw as betrayal by the Imperium, over three quarters of the assembled Wolf Brothers turned their back on the Imperium. Many simply vowed to live independently, but others took a darker path. The company's Battle Leader, a red-bladed warrior with a lengthy saga of glorious deeds, threw off the trappings of Imperial service, revealing that he had long followed the Blood God Khorne. His Wolf Guard, to a man, turned their weapons upon those unwilling to join them in damnation.

The war that raged upon the battle-barge lasted weeks with the Chaos marines rapidly taking charge of the bridge but the Loyalists, led by Wulfrik, another Dreadnought and a pair of priests, scattering into the bowels of the ship and fighting a guerrilla war of sabotage and hit-and-run strikes on their former fellows. The Loyalists inevitably fell, outnumbered horribly as they were, and the last three to fall were Wulfrik and the priests. While the Caster of Runes spent his strength battling the possessed corpse of his Wolf Lord, Wulfrik and Iron Priest forced a path to the hangars, intent on stealing a ship. Wulfrik had his legs torn from him by a powerful daemon-beast mere metres from the hangar doors but the Iron Priest would not let him fail. Horribly wounded, he used his servo-harness to drag Wulfrik's intact sarcophagus beyond the doors and seal them shut. With daemons hammering at the doors, he placed a cryo-stasis pod used for storing food inside a Thunderhawk and dragged the shattered Dreadnought within.

Wulfrik awoke to stars. He was still within the cargo crate, but the front of it had been seared off and the Thunderhawk was no more. No one replied to his vox hails, and his weapons systems were so badly damaged he could do nothing but stare, unmoving, into the rolling void until darkness took him, The destruction of the Thunderhawk, moments after its departure from the tainted Battle Barge, had short circuited the stasis field Wuifrik dwelled in. While it operated most of the time, it would switch off for minutes or even hours at a time before coming abruptly back online. Within the stasis field Wulfrik had no knowledge of the passage of time, and reality became a disorienting jumble of constantly shifting vistas. Throughout the millennia, Wulfrik spent centuries staring into the depths of endless space. It is likely he went mad, but by the time he was rediscovered in M40 by the Space Wolves of the Lost Companies, he was a lucid, if taciturn, warrior. The superstitious Iron Priests, upon discovering his identity, refused to work upon such an ill-omened war machine. As a link to their deep past, however, he had to be preserved, and so Wulfrik was properly placed into the deep sleep common to dreadnoughts, hidden from all and forgotten.

When Holgir Bearclaw created Kolvjon and then his Company, forging the Wolfbrothers, the Iron Priest Olric Winterhand took it upon himself to remove Wulfrik from storage and present him to the new Chapter. He awoke the ancient warrior and spoke at length to him of these new Wolfbrothers. At first reluctant, Wulfrik agreed on the condition that he never again be made to sleep. Olric presented the shattered chassis to Holgir, declaring him to be Wulfrik Voidwalker. Long past his berserker rages, Wulfrik accepted his new title. The Wolfbrothers took to restoring him with the assistance- never hands on, only advice- of Beowulf Ironbreaker of the Winterborn; the only Iron Priest with the knowledge or desire to fully restore a Contemptor-pattern Dreadnought, During this process, Wulfrik commanded that his shattered right arm be replaced with a firearm, instead of his previous chainfist, better suiting his new persona. He also called for the removal of the remaining runic insignia on his armour, declaring that Bloodfang was no more.

The Voidwalker has become a valuable asset to the new Chapter, teaching Holgir of battle tactics and ancient victories alike and, albeit rarely, speaking of the terrifying beauty of his centuries drifting through the void.

I bought this guy a while ago, to make a Vindicator for a FIst of the Gods. On getting it home, I found that the primary hull piece was almost the size of a Land Raider, and this would be far too large to be a believable Vindi. Thanks to the Internet, that most reliable of sources, it seems the Typhon heavy siege tank is also about the size of a Land Raider. What a coincidence.

Presenting my counts-as Chaos Typhon for the Wolfbrothers. It'll have some 40K bitz to bling it up, but will be basically what you see here. Upgrades-wise, it'll have the lot: sponson and pintle heavy bolters with malefic ammunition, havoc launcher, armoured ceramite, dozer blade made from a Goliath Rockgrinder so it counts as Destroyer Blades as well, warpflame gargoyles and a dirge caster

Torygg Geneweaver is the only wholly Fenrisian Wolfbrother; with the partial success of Kolvjon, Holgir Bearclaw petitioned Jorek Greatwolf to allow him to use Fenrisian-born in his experiments. Jorek relented after the Sternhammer supported Bearclaw, but limited the new Chapter to a single Fenrisian initiate. If he failed, no others would be forthcoming.
Torygg was trained from birth in the ways of the flesh-sculptor, and when he was old enough was made a Wolfbrother. He was Holgir's apprentice for a time, then surpassed him, going on to become the most successful Wolf Priest of the Chapter. It was through his knowledge that the fourth and later generations were created and the threat of the Tithe mitigated. He later created the Grey Wardens and Varengii.

Torygg has been an idea I've had for a while, and whilst his rules don't completely reflect the benevolent fluff I've written for him he's still pretty useful Rules-wise he's Fabius Bile, and he will come to command a force of dudes later; the Varengii he created use the rules for a squad of Slaaneshi CSM's with Banner and Bile's upgrade attached, so they're all S5 I5 with FnP. I still need a weapon to stand in for his rod of torment, I'm thinking a mace of some sort, and he'll have a Space Wolf head on him too.

When the Nine Worlds were enhulfed in the Steel Wars, the 6th Generation of Wolfbrothers fought bravely but, lacking the savagery of their forebears, were swiftly overwhelmed. They were replaced on the front line by forces of the berserk 4th Generation and by squads of Grey Wardens who were deployed as quickly as they could be recruited. While they never entirely left the front lines, the 6th Generation were relegated to second line forces. This changed when the triplet Magi of the Taghmata Hvergelmir, the Parthians, created a multi-spectral shield that could be easily adapted to fit within modified power armour. The first test units of this armour revealed some flaws; the shields interfered with vox-traffic, and had such a high power requirement that movement within the modified armour was slow. Speed was less of a problem, and it was decided that forces outfitted with such armour would simply have to make do, but lack of communication was a critical flaw. It was the Anatolii psyker-lord, Eoin Columba, who suggested using trained telepaths to create a psychic link with their squads and bypass the technological deficit in this manner. The first forces wholly outfitted with this armour proved to be incredibly resilient and powerful, and the majority of the remaining 6th Generation were quickly outfitted with Parthian armour and returned to the front lines.

So, these gents will be my counts-as Thousand Sons. Not sorcerous automata, simply heavily shielded within slow power armour. The Grey Knight teleport packs will be linked to bitz culled from my spare AdMech stash to create shield pylons across the shoulder pads and also along the chest harness, not unlike Tesla Armour from Fallout 3. The helmets are simple because they need to be; with no ability to use vox systems in Parthian armour they simply stopped installing them.
The Sergeants will use bared heads with glowing eyes to show their psychic might.
Later projects include a version of Cataphractii armour to represent Sekhmet Occult; WIP title is Iron Rain squads since you can run 4 heavy weapons per squad so they'd be more like a terminator devastator squad than anything else.

Forgeworld came through with the goods yesterday; many things. Most importantly, the House Terryn upgrade kit so I can finish the Dark Horse! Here he is as of 4pm yesterday at the local GW where he's being displayed in the window with Truvor Ironbound's pack, some Tithed, Wuifrik Voidwalker, Kazimir Hearthrazer and Gauldur Stoneseer.

Also did some damaging of Wulfrik; patching him up with random Ork bitz. The Lost Companies have an Ork Rok, formerly the home of the Mek Metal 'Ead, that they use as a Chapter Forge. It's been renamed Ironhjold and is under the watchful eye of Harald Haraldsson, The Iron Wolf, a monstrous cyborg Iron Priest; it still contains unplundered scrap heaps by the ton that anyone (if willing to accept the risks) can pillage. It is from such scrap heaps that most of the objects used to repair Wulfrik came from.

The Ork missilie rack is supposed to represent a Havoc Launcher, I'm still unsure on it. Perhaps cables will add something?

Also; Kharadon Overlords... Yes!!!! I'm thinking I need to acquire these models to add to my collection of bitz... That minigun on a Parthian marine will look sweet!

Anywho thanks again for stopping by, have a good one!

As Company Kolvjon grows, I find a need to move away from just creating troops and build some vehicles too. One upgrade I love is Destroyer Blades, as I plan to have the vehicles of the Company performing very close support so they'll inevitably smash into the enemy at some point. I wanted to make something that looked the part, but realistic, not just placing an Ork Deff rolla on the models (well, not all of them....) So I bought a Goliath, modified that for other uses later, and kept this:

Destroyer and dozer blade all in one! Should have a Rhino to put it on by the end of the weekend. For the Land Raiders, I'm thinking I'll use this offering from Kromlech; it served the Winterborn well

So, amidst all the bits and bobs I've been adding to the wider Chapter, I've forgotten some of the basics; some of the earliest members: the humble Space Marine Rhino, and the once-Chapter Master, Truvor Ironbound

Back before the coming of Holgir and his ability to control the Wulfen, the warriors who would become the Wolfbrothers were prisoners of the mad Inquisitor Rathmine and spent their days struggling to survive. Their leader was Truvor, who hatched the plans to overthrow Rathmine and who later convinced Holgir to use his skills to aid them. The plan had always been that Holgir would be a lieutenant to Truvor, but during the breakout he was horribly wounded, being saved only by irreversible surgery that mated his shattered body with a medical exoskeleton. Over the decades and later centuries since, Truvor, given the name Ironbound, has had his armour substantially modified until it now incorporates advanced shield generation systems and thick artificer-finished armour plates

I started modifying Truvor a while ago, to give him a much more heroic look, and this is where I'm currently at. I also changed his Gift of Chaos to better reflect his fluff; in place of +1 WS I gave him +1 Wound and Toughness and Feel No Pain (5+).

Also added that destroyer/ dozer blade to a Rhino, to accompany Norugun's Pack of Company Kolvjon, the Possessed pack with the most love thus far. As the Wolfbrothers don't get access to the cool toys of their Space Wolf cousins, and for quite a while can only muster a handful of Rhinos (and also because the Chaos Vehicle gear is eclectic and cool) I'm planning to build this as a mini tank of it;s own design, so extra armour plating, a hurricane bolter-type weapon for the 3 pintle guns it has, a havoc launcher, and obviously the destroyer blade and dozer blade upgrades. I'll use some AdMech bitz to add something like a Dirge Caster to it; rather than being a broadcast of pure Chaos it'll be something like the neurostatic interference wargear Sicarian Infiltrators wear, but placed upon a vehicle.

Possibly due to the influence of Disturbed, caffeine or public transport; or all the above, ideas for conversions are flowing!
The terminators of N'Ton El'Oban's company are getting Tartatos armour to best reflect their high initiative, along with Alpha Legion Headhunter bolters and the most streamlined heads I can find; Firedrake or Phoenix terminator heads perhaps?
Also going to build an Alpha Legion proxy Lord in the scale armour relic using the Armillus Dynat body with all the Legion icons removed or replaced; I'm thinking something very like the Witcher symbol dead centre of the torso armour. He's from the middle period of the Steel Wars, and will possibly get a small (I say that, but... plastic crack) force to lead.
I'm thinking brassy scales on the armour

Further thoughts; build the Terminators out of Phoenix Termies? Add Wolfbrother icons and remove EC icons obviously. That armour is gently ornate without being as crazy as 40K Sekhmet or as plain as standard Tartaros.

Great Company N'Ton: forged during the Steel Wars but completed too late for deployment, they cut their teeth cleansing the asteroid belts of the Nine Worlds of remaining Steel Brotherhood and Word Bearer forces before they were recalled and rearmed to perpetuate a giant hoax on the Imperium of Man.
I had a list for these guys using a CAD but with the release of Traitor Legions and some suggestions of my friends, I've come up with the following: Rapture Battalion with a Kakophoni as Core, a Raptor Talon and Terminator Annihilation Force as Auxiliaries, a Fist of the Gods and a Lost and Damned, and possibly a Helforged Warpack.
The Noise Marines were formerly Troops in the CAD, while the Terminators and Raptors were Elites and Fast Attack.
The Kakophoni represents the remaining soldiers of the 'Chapter' they're pretending to be, the Terminators and Raptors are the remaining veterans and assault specialists. The Helforged Warpack and Fist of the Gods represents the Chapter armoury and the Lost and Damned are wannabe Initiates.

A friend came up with the idea of either running dreadnoughts led by a Contemptor as the Helforged Warpack, or running a re-gunned Deredeo as a Forgefiend to lead them. I also think some re-gunned Thanatar battle-automata models could be used as Defilers.

Just thoughts for now; alternative takes always welcome. Have a good one!

The first 5 of the Noise Marines of N'Ton El'Oban's Company; advanced warriors of the 4th Generation, they are very similar to the perfected Varengii but far easier to produce. Incredibly quick of hand and eye, they are also very resilient and outfitted with weapons that have been optimised for extended combat operations. Their bolters scopes link with the autosenses of their Mk IV armour to allow them to routinely take shots that would put a trained marksman to shame, and the fragmenting shells they fire are designed to penetrate obstacles before exploding behind them. For those they fight, seeking cover is folly.

Their champion, Piemurr, bears a unique and deadly power sword that can strike a foe down with a single blow, and his combi-bolter allows him to add substantially to the firepower of his squad

Rules: Noise Marine squad, 20 strong, 2 Blastmasters, Icon of Excess, Rhino with bitz, Champion has combi-bolter, power sword, gifts (+1 BS, Icy Aura, instant death melee attacks)

Like this one; a kitbash of an Arkanaut Admiral and a Grey Knight Terminator with parts from the Tartaros and MkIII armour kits. Lieutenant Taranis of Company Lugus, one of the heroes of the Steel Wars. Taranis guarded Captain Lugus' back throughout the 3 decades their company held the Sigma III defence site, trusting to his artificer armour and enhanced resilience to shrug off even the most dire of wounds.
Rules-wise; 30K Blackshields Chymeriae (+1 S/T, -1 I, no sweeping advance) in Terminator Armour with power sword and volkite charger

While I'm pondering that, I started work on the base for The Dark Horse, my former House Terryn Freeblade. Cutting skulls into bits to fill gaps, so it matches the Sector Imperialis display board, is a pain.

Just took The Red Baron (Kytan Daemon Engine) and Grimalkin, Lady of Scars (Daemon Knight-Paladin of Khorne) up against a dude at the FLGS; he was running a Kustom Stompa with Gaze of Mork, Bursta Gun, Titan CCW and a cargo of 23 Mekboyz and a Big Mek.

I won! Just,,,,

Didn't get a chance to take photos, but it was a good game. Turns out we had 950 points each. I must have stripped 30+ hull points off his Stompa. In the end, The Red Baron fell to a Gaze of Mork to the face followed by a Titan CCW in the guts, and Grimalkin took the kill by virtue of a 3-round slugfest that knocked his last 3 hull points off before he had a chance to regenerate. A fun fun game; and quick as!

Will definitely do that again; but think I need terrain to shield my units from Str D weapons as they advance.

Working on painting my first Rhino for Great Company Kolvjon's Wulfen packs. I'd planned to use red as the secondary colour on the front and side recessed panels, but it ended up looking too much like the Winterborn vehicles so I'm using the same cream I used on Holgir's robes instead. The side doors will get a decal of a red wolf's head, very slightly reminiscent of the Witcher symbol

In the aftermath of the Steel Wars, the defences of the Nine Worlds were substantially improved and upgraded. Part of this involved the salvage of wrecked vehicles from the battlefield and the subsequent refit and redeployment of them. On the asteroid belt that held the Sigma III installation, an ancient Stormhammer assault tank was discovered. In recognition of the heroism of Companies Lugus and Kolbeck, the Stormhammer was ceded to the Wolfbrothers, who in turn passed it to the Aegis Itrium, the permanent defensive force that watched over their Chapter-planet of Itrium

Bought this from a guy on a FB swap page; he'd done some converting but never finished it. I'll need to do some repair work, but it's a genuine Forgeworld Stormhammer! And it came with a pair of (admittedly damaged) Leman Russ Incinerator turrets, a recast (and damaged) Legion Glaive turret, and a set of heavy volkites for a Legion Support squad. I have enough spare parts to create a baneblade-sized hull for the Glaive turret, and the Volkite cannons I can always use or resell. New turrets for my Russes are also cool.

Conversion-work-wise, after I've patched the holes and painted the basics, it'll get some Itrium-styled bitz; scraps of cloth, shields on the side, maybe try some freehand tribal markings too.

I restarted T'Garran of Necromunda with a new model, an old Khador warjack in metal, and switched his weapons from missile launcher and reaper autocannon to missile launcher and twin-linked lascannons. He has one lascannon per arm, with the missile launcher mounted on top of his hull. I only have enough bitz to build one Lascannon for now, but that'll change when I buy another Goliath

Korvan was born to the crews of the Lost Companies' ships. His parents were non-Fenrisian; his father an armsman and his mother an engineer. Korvan was one of the first modified humans created by Holgir Bearclaw, and his stable mind and skill with weapons rapidly earned him a place in Holgir's bodyguard. He was issued with one of the suits of power armour once worn by Inquisitor Rathmine's favoured acolytes, and accompanied Holgir on many missions. He lost his mortal life fighting alongside the warriors of the Tithe and the Wulfen Guard, taking a sniper's round meant for Kodlak Sternhammer. In recognition of this feat, the Sternhammer had Korvan interred in one of the dreadnought shells bequeathed to the Wulfen Guard, making him the first dreadnought of the Wolfbrothers Chapter.

Been working on the idea of Korvan for a while. At one time he was to lead a Helcult, but with the dawn of 8th I'll probably just field him alone with cultist support. Rules-wise he's a Helbrute with twin-linked autocannon and powerfist with heavy flamer. It remains to be seen if this build is still available and viable but I do hope it is.

Thanks War Kitten, he'll be painted soon. Had a look through the Chaos Index last night and that build is very viable

A few take-aways from the Index read; Helbrutes now get Marks. Marks do nothing... Yet. They do unlock some bubbles for the unit, so that's neat.
There's not yet rules for the Crimson Slaughter, regrettably, so I'll just focus on building up what I have and hope for some love down the road. Possessed are faster than before, but I'm not a fan of their D3 attacks each. Also, Poxwalkers seem very meh to me... I was thinking they could be good replacements for my Plague Zombies/Poxwalker Hive cultists but I don't really feel it. Looks like the Grey Wardens will be going into battle unsupported. I'm tentatively happy with the Chaos Lords and characters, and many, many additional wounds for Dark Apostles, WQarpsmiths and the like is kinda cool. 2 wound Terminators are cool too, but still no Cataphractii. Still going to model my Scarab Occult as Cataphractii with assault cannons and cyclone launchers though.

Anyway enough rambling from me, have a good one and stay tuned for further updates!

Yeah, that's true War Kitten. I'll muddle through this edition, I'm sure of it. The Noise Marines rules fit N'Ton's company nicely, so I'll stick with it.

I had another idea about the Parthian armour, an updated suit of well-shielded power armour that allowed the 6th generation Wolfbrothers to stand up to the battlefields of the Steel Wars. The first model was this guy:

And whilst he's a good basic concept, I can do better. I'm thinking this:

World Eater MkII torsos

Maxmini Forge Guardian shoulders

Probably with some version of Iron armour legs, but 3rd party to represent their slow speed. Helmets will probably remain converted from various sources

Thanks EDC. I might end up changing the helmet, but we'll see. War Kitten, yeah they're not quite high-tech, but also look tough enough to withstand a battlefield and look vastly different to anything else I have. I also had some ideas for the terminators that accompany N'Ton El'Oban's Company. The idea was to fool Imperial forces into thinking that the Wolfbrothers were a returning force long ago exiled, and so the warriors of the Company were outfitted with Mk V and Mk IV armour, ancient patterns faithfully reproduced by the Taghmata Hvergelmir to arm the Company. The Mk IV armour was reserved for elite units, and any Noise Marine unit will be wearing it. The terminators of the Company were likewise outfitted with advanced armour marks, and few things are as advanced as Tartaros armour. In the old rules the quicker Tartaros plate accounted for their increased Initiative as well.
To differentiate the Tartaros worn by N'Ton's Company from the others, and to add to the almost-high-tech feel of the army, I sourced some of these combi-bolters

The under-over look vastly differs from every other storm bolter/ combi bolter I have in the Company, and they look more streamlined and advanced than standard weapons. I also sourced 5 of these torsos

I think they'll tie in neatly with both the Mk V armour of the average marines, and the MK IV advanced armour worn by the elite troops. These will be added to either resin or plastic Tartaros legs. Conversion should be ready by next weekish

The new combi bolters should help the new guys stand out a fair bit!

Finished work on Torygg Geneweaver, finally. His 8th-ed incarnation looks like being quite a force multiplier. Still need the dedicated shoulderpad, but I should have a few shipped in soon

Yeah, apothecaries and the like are pretty good in 8th edition. While reviving models from a squad is pretty decent, they're mostly good for keeping precious characters alive.

Thanks guys. War Kitten, he's mostly going to be used as Fabius Bile, but if I feel the need to run him as an Apothecary he should fit just fine too. I received this in the mail today; the storm bolters for N'Ton El'Oban's terminators. Now to wait for the rest of the resin to arrive.....

More resin has arrived! 5 Deathshroud terminator torsos, all the way from Germany. Still awaiting my Legion Tartaros armour to come in from Forgeworld though

I really like the look of the Deathshroud Terminator Torsos. They just look a lot more interesting (to me) than most of the current 40k Terminator torsos (except for maybe the Tartaros Terminators)

War Kitten, yeah I like them too. I think they're supposed to be a version of Tartaros? The back vents look like it, but that vent in the front is a bit different.
EDC, they'll turn out awesome!

Found their heads too, Mk X Tacticus helmets

I got the remainder of the bitz to finish the terminators today; a pack of plastic Tartaros and a pack of Forgeworld Legion Tartaros models. I also got the Chaos Index, and I have to say I'm stoked! Very little loses out. I'm a little annoyed about the Possessed getting weirdly done in the core 40K rules, but Forgeworld hasn't let me down! Torin, as a Decimator Daemon Engine, is fast, deadly and hard to kill. The Red Baron isn't quite as tough as an Imperial Knight, but he's savage as all goddamn.
If you play Chaos, or something like Chaos, get this book!

Pics of terminators to follow....

The first terminator of Great Company N'Ton. His pose is much better in person, it looks like he's hunting and about to assault with his fist. The pic kinda looks like he's absently shooting.

Further work on Great Company N'Ton; some Mk V Heresy armour, all in plastic! I'll be adding some resin FW versions in too, but I'll mainly be aiming to build these versions as they seem a bit less polished. The Khorne legs have slightly pointy kneepoads which fits the Mk V aesthetic, but I'll have to scrape off the Khorne symbols and the banding around the legs as well.

After the Legion formations of 7th made Great Company N'Ton a reality, I was disappointed by the 8th edition rules for Noise Marines (still going to build the Company, just a little disappointed) but with the Legion focus rules out today I'm very much looking forward to finishing them! Striking first with berserk gunplay as well? Yes please

Cyrus is one of the Terminator champions of Great Company N'Ton. A veteran of the last battles of the Steel Wars, he bears an arcane pair of lightning claws whose blades deal such savage wounds none are immune to their touch.
In 7th he had the Gifts of Chaos that granted him +1 WS and Poisoned (4+) on his claws.
I've gone for studded armour pieces to give him an ancient look to his armour as well, and despite the damage to the top of his torso I think it's worked. What are your thoughts?

Toman leads a score of warriors in service to N'Ton El'Oban. His substantial cybernetics were crafted by the Taghmata Hvergelmir after he was nearly killed defeating a daemon machine of the Steel Brethren

Still need to put in a lot of work but his armour is almost there. Added the backpack to give him some of the white wolf fur on his gear. He'll have a studded shoulderpad in keeping with the mk V armour design.
In 7th he had the +1 W and FnP, hence the bionics. He's also quite tall for a standard marine

Just grabbed the new Death Guard codex; the Grey Wardens will be getting seriously buffed!

Thinking converted Kataphron to stand in for Myphitic Blight-Haulers. Also unbelievably keen to add flails and great axes to Grey Warden squads and terminators. Also, actual cataphractii!!!

As the second-string cousins of the Space Wolves, the Wolfbrothers often need to improvise their equipment to a degree. Sometimes this takes the form of heavy stub weapons over standard bolters, or melee weapons over any ranged weapons. Other times, it requires they utilise dangerous captured weapons taken from their foes. This is one of the latter.

Haven't decided what Company will utilise this beauty, but I'm leaning towards the Ward-Wulfen intensive Company Burqhart. For those who don't know the size of this, here it is next to a Knight

I got these guys from a friend a while back, and I'm sorting out getting some more. They're the Pupetswar Valhalla termos type armour, and I think they look pretty sweet. I'm not % sure on the heads, but for now they'll do.
I was struck by the similarity between these and the armour worn by my Sisterhood (Prodos Space Crusade) models, so I came up with this idea:

The tech-priests of the Wolfbrothers, always trying to increase the capacity of their Chapter, learned how to craft such suits from the Dragon Temple of Hebdanod. Modified for Marine and not Sister, they were found to be very similar to exoskeletal work rigs used throughout the navy and hive worlds. While not as effective as true terminator armours, they were still seen as a massive improvement over the hodge-podge warplate favoured throughout the Chapter. Even in the mid 42nd millenium, with a greater production capacity provided by the Taghmata Hvergelmir, new suits of this type are still created.

So, some very low quality work on my Dreadclaw paint scheme, but it's taking shape. A few more coats of the grey, then 2 edge highlights and that'll be done, wash the metals and highlight up to runefnag steel. The brass will be edged, and the brown panels take up to bone white. I'll print some decals of the wolf's head to put on those too. He'll be based standing upright, on the blasted rock of the Sigma III asteroid complex; the first and only mass deployment of Dreadclaw pods by Company Burqhart when they relieved Companies Kolbeck and Lugus at the end of the Steel War

Looking back, I'm not happy with Truvor Ironbound. He's one of the first models I made, but it never seemed to match the lore I'd build up for him. He's the first successful space marine Inquisitor Rathmine created, he designed the plan to escape from the mad inquisitor and his pirates, he trained the first group of fighters, rescued the Herald and Holgir Bearclaw, and became the first living martyr of the chapter. On Cadia he led a squad of ill-equipped humans and killed ten Iron Warrior terminators. The previous model matched what I'd intended to build; almost a servitor in heavy plate, but it didn't match the story. Here's attempt 3, armed with a frost blade and armoured in the plate of the Iron Warrior champion he slew.

He'll be getting a bionic left arm with a combi weapon built into it
