Thanks Shasolenzabi! He has 9 brothers still to come
Finished up my HQ choices for this army with Kolvjon, the Lord of Beasts; a Khorne Lord on Juggernaut with The Blade of the Relentless
And completed the Elites choices with Wulfrik Voidwalker, a Chaos Contemptor Dreadnought of Nurgle with Butcher Cannon (forthcoming) Chainfist and Soul Burner
Wulfrik was originally a Contemptor ceded to the 2nd Founding Wolf Brothers Chapter; who remained loyal when his company turned to Chaos. He was found in a stasis-field, heavily damaged, and restored to working order. He joined the new Wolfbrothers Chapter and acts as a link to their past and a warden who constantly watches for signs of corruption from his new brothers.
The idea was to create something that was once a work of art and has aged considerably, a kind of faded glory still clinging to it despite this. How'd I do?
Kolvjon has a bodyguard of Berserkers on Juggernauts, using fan-made rules for the unit. They're basic Wolfbrothers on Raging Heroes Cyberwolves; bigger and nastier than GW Thunderwolves by a little bit. I'm thinking I might continue the idea with counts-as Noise Marines on Steeds of SLaanesh using some sort of fast-seeming non-wolf mounts, some Plague Marines on Palanquins probably modelled as just big dudes, maybe bears, and some Chosen of Tzeentch on Discs modelled as Jetbikes, probably using the Maxmini Gothic Jetbike models. Watch this space!

Nothing hugely exciting right now, just a reshuffle of the relics I'm arming my characters with, since the newest FAQ states one per model
Kolvjon, the Lord of Beasts, will lose his Slave to the Voices relic and the Blade of the Relentless, replacing it with the Axe of Blind Fury (mostly for initiative AP2) This is the only daemon weapon I plan to include, and fluff-wise its effects more represent Kolvjon's own unhinged nature
Gauldur Stoneseer will be unchanged, having only the Bale-Star of Mammon
Holgir Bearclaw will be reduced to just wearing Daemonheart, and will no longer have The Slaughterer's Horns or the Crozius of the Dark Covenant. I'm not 100% on that, the Crozius might be a better fit. I'll see.

I'm still working on the Wolfbrothers and all my other projects, just had some issues finding the time to paint and photograph.
Anyway, a character and a new breed of Wulfen (for yet another formation....) incoming soon
Automatically Appended Next Post:
In the very early years of the 42nd millenium, the Nine Worlds came under attack by a sizeable force of Steel Brethren traitor marines. This warband, born from the Iron Warriors Legion, laid siege to the system and very nearly captured it. The Space Wolves, still recovering their strength from the draining, desperate war against the 13th Black Crusade, were unable to stymie the traitor advance. The Wolfbrothers, scarcely stronger but better able to replace their losses, bore the brunt of the fighting. In this war, entire companies were committed to the fighting to hold for just a moment longer. The casualties suffered by the Wolfbrothers were staggering, and without their skilled geneticists the Chapter would have fallen in battle.
One of the forces created was a refinement of the Grey Warden genome, designed to create incredibly resilient Wulfen warriors to hold off the Steel Brethren assault. These Grey Wulfen were grotesquely muscled brutes, but they possessed the stamina of the Grey Wardens and the savage strength of the Wulfen. Led by a Helwulf battle leader, they fought and died to destroy the Steel Brethren.
So this is the first of many Grey Wulfen I have planned. They'll be built entirely from Spellcrow bits, as that gives them a stockiness missing from GW marines. As the Wolfbrothers use Chaos rules, the Grey Wulfen are built around the Black Legion formation, The Tormented. The possessed squads have Mark of Nurgle for WS, S, T and I 5 warriors with 2 attacks standard and Rending. Their Helwulf battle leader will be a Slaaneshi Daemon Prince, so it has Fleet as well.
This guy is a Possessed Champion with the gifts that grant a 2+ save and +1 Attack
F'Lor Martol accompanied Great Company N'Ton when they returned to the Imperium after the war against the Steel Brethren, bearing with them the technological discoveries of the Taghmata Hvergelmir and providing desperately-needed reinforcement for the Astra Militarum and Adeptus Astartes forces battling across the wreckage of the Cadian Gate

Morning Dakka! A lot of Dwarf/ Duardin-centric bitz on the Wolfbrothers today.
I've settled on a look for Truvor, he needs a lot more work but basically as you see below
with the Dwarf shoulder bits on both legs, a resculpted waist, power cables leading up the legs, and a heavier back to his armour. Something like a combination of the beetle-back and peahead terminator models
Also finalised the look for the Grey Wardens, my Wolfbrother Plague Marine stand-ins. Fluff-wise, they were created to cage The Tithe. Their gene-seed has been shifted to enhance the Imperial Fist gene-seed attributes within them which created strong, mentally hardy but slow and deliberate warriors. Their shields are also their plague knives, capable of delivering a powerful shock if needed. So here's their champion, Duncan
Also, a bit randomly, I've been using the old Berserker arms for the Wolfbrothers because they're a little bit primitive looking. I noticed this similarity between some of their elbow things and the shield bosses of the Fyreslayers. I know its a coincidence but I think it ties the two bitz together well

They're well worth it EDC!
The Legion lists are more than sweet, but for this iteration of the Wolfbrothers I'm sticking with the Crimson Slaughter for their beast-possessed Troops units; the second finest counts-as Wulfen besides the Death Company
Also, from a storytelling perspective (This being primarily a display army) I've found that a warlord trait from either the Personal or Codex trees really helps to settle a character's personality. Perhaps they're hellishly resilient, or are able to outthink any opponent? Perhaps (like Gauldur) they're sane in comparison to their brothers but still a raving lunatic
Anywho have a good one~!

Morning dakka!
I've been going through the chaos formations since Traitor's Hate was released and I keep coming back to the Cult of Destruction. That many heavy weapons and extra attacks from the Warpsmiths... yes please! The issue is, the Wolfbrothers don't have technoviral soldiers. So I had an idea I'd like to run by you: a version of terminator armour with a servo harness attachment that mounts many heavy weapons. The idea would be to fit each squad of Onager Terminators with 4 or 5 weapons options instead of the full 8. The left arm would be a powerfist while the right arm would carry a heavy weapon. You can already get assault cannon, plasma cannon and multi melta arms, and the plastic plasma blasters from Betrayal at Calth should be a good twin-linked plasma gun option. The other weapons would be fitted one to each arm of the servo harness.
What do you think?

Subject: Re:The Wolfbrothers- Won a battle against Space Wolves, pretty happy
|
 |
Stealthy Space Wolves Scout

So I ended this year on a high note, gaming-wise: I won a solid victory against a 1500 pt Space Wolf force with the Wolfbrothers.
Worth mentioning, my opponent is probably TFG- he gets rules wrong, where it benefits him, but will call the slightest mistake if it stands to provide a bonus for you. I've fought him before. He got in touch the other day and asked if I wanted to play another 30K match again. I said no, but told him I'd wanted to take my Chaos for a run for a while. He jumped at it after I told him I wouldn't be running Legions or Formations. We settled on a 1500 point CAD only. No fortifications, no allies, no Lords of War.
I had Kolvjon, Lord of Beasts (Juggernaut khorne lord, axe of Blind Fury, Sigil of Corruption, boon), 40 Wolfbrother wulfen in 2 squads of 20 (possessed, mark of Khorne, banner, champion has 2 boons) and 2 Chaos rapiers with quad heavy bolters.
He had a Thunderwolf lord with Claws, armour of Russ and 2 Wolves, 2 squads of 10 Grey Hunters, 15 Blood Claws in a Stormwolf, a Stormfang, 2 vindicators and a whirlwind.
We deployed on a 4 by 4 table, both pretty much at the limit of our deployment zones.I had to remind him about flyers starting reserves. I ended up going first.
Turn 1 I rolled Beasts for both Possessed packs and dashed across the field. His furthest Grey Hunter pack,, took 3 casualties from long-range quad heavy bolter fire. I ran the possessed squads into ruins, trusting their beast form to protect them from the dangerous terrain. He fired the whirlwind onto the possessed, killing 3, but was out of range with his vindicators and failed to kill anything with his grey hunters.
Turn 2 I rolled beasts for Kolvjon's pack and Incorporeal Form for the other pack, granting them a 3++. Both packs moved forward, the incorporeal pack towards the tanks, Kolvjon's pack towards the grey hunters. The rapiers hammered the second grey hunter pack and killed them outright. The Incorporeal possessed charged the whirlwind, rending it down neatly. Kolvjon's pack charged in and I called a challenge. His pack leader answered the possessed champion's call, lost, and the possessed champion Booned into a daemon prince. The other possessed ripped the grey hunters apart and consolidated towards the wolf lord. His vindicators hammered the possessed pack that had killed the whirlwind, but their 3++ meant only a handful were killed.
Turn 3 I moved Kolvjon out of his pack, leaving him standing around. The Daemon Prince went towards the vindicators. I rolled spirit beacons for the unit closest to the tanks, and incorporeal form for the other. I moved Kolvjon's pack to give me the best angle on the wolf lord, ran the others across the field. The Daemon prince made his charge into the rear of a vindicator and smashed it, unsurprisingly. The possessed charged the wolf lord, who challenged their champion.... But their was no one to answer the challenge and he died to weight of attacks.
Turn 4 I prepared to win amazingly! Kolvjon rejoined his pack, the other possessed stood around not doing much, and the daemon prince charged the vindicator. He absolutely failed to kill it. My opponent had his stomwolf and stormfang arrive at the start of his turn (he'd rolled horribly for reserves thus far), reversed his vindicator, and blew the daemon prince into shards. His Stormfang targeted the possessed, hitting them with a dispersed helfrost blast and killing 5, while his lascannons missed. In his assault phase, his bloodclaws failed a charge into Kolvjon's pack, but lost no-one since possessed have no guns for overwatch.
Turn 5, I rolled Beasts for both packs. I moved them swiftly across the board. In my shooting phase the far-off rapier carriers woodpeckered the Vindicator to death, as they could see its rear armour. In assault I charged the Blood Claws with 1 pack and the Stormwolf with the other. The stormwolf survived, the blood claws did not.
it's worth mentioning I forgot Kolvjon's daemon weapon special rule, so never rolled for it.
In his turn, he zoomed the Stormfang off the board, but forgot to move the stormwolf and it died in his assault phase, leaving him with nothing on the field.
I won by default, but it was still a win!

Thanks Shaso! It was more luck than judgement, but still good! And yeah, the banner bearer is one of my favourites of all my thunderwolf-ish things I own (and I have quite a few...)
I discovered a small problem when I went to finish the juggernaut riders... I'm out of the snarling wolf shoulder pads so I'll need a few weeks to acquire more. Far from stopping, I'll be getting stuck into the cultists for the Wolfbrothers, since I have a ton of those and they barely wear clothes let alone power armour. Expect many misshapen wolfmen to appear herein
