"Torygg Geneweaver, the genius geneticist of the Wolfbrothers, was responsible for many incredible breakthroughs in Space Marine genetics. It was by his refinement of earlier work that the Wulfen gene was reduced, and viable Wolfbrothers could be produced. Of less fame but of far wider consequence was the genetic work he did on refining the humans who accompanied the Wolfbrothers. While never approaching the power of those who underwent gene-seed implantation, these humans were incredibly resilient and keen of senses. Torygg was often accompanied by squads of these modified humans, as guards and assistants."

These two gents represent some of Torygg's thralls during the Steel War of the early 42nd millenium. Torygg reactivated his enhancement program mid-war to produce more capable soldiers.

And something else!

"When Great Company N'Ton returned to the Imperium after the Steel War, they took with them everything they would need to function as an army, including new Initiates. These young Wolfbrothers were armed as Thrall soldiers, and took to the field wearing void-suits commonly utilised throughout the Imperium"

This guy is the first of the Lost and Damned formation attached to Great Company N'Ton. As with all the Company, he uses the rules for the Mark of Slaanesh and so is I4. He will also have an extra stat upgrade thanks to the Rapture Battalion's Combat Drugs rule. I expect he and his brothers will be far more dangerous than normal cultists

"Forged by the Tech-Savant Sicorax, of the Taghmata Hvergelmir, this war machine mounts unusually powerful motive systems for a walker of its size, along with independently tracking rapid-firing autocannons and a powerful but short-ranged beam weapon"

Rules-wise, it's a Khorne Daemonkin Soul Grinder, to accompany Great Company Kolgrimm

I need to add the beam weapon (wherever I put that...) remove the Blood Angels icons and fill the gaps with greenstuff. I might also modify the armour to look less Dreadknight-y

Finally got back around to The Red Baron, my Kytan counts-as for Great Company Kolgrimm. Highly advanced, this Knight-class machine doesn't rely on crude physical blades but instead bears a forcefield blade of incredible power

The edges will be highlighted up to a bright yellow, for something visually distinctive

Nice. Cool plog, really like the Khorne Soul Grinder counts as too.

Thanks EDC. The Soul Grinder has been in the works for a loooonng time now, good to almost have it done

On that note, more pics! I found the beam cannon (Soul Grinder Warp Gaze) and put that on. along with some wires and bitz to finish the look. The pose is a little static but that's cool, I envision it standing reolute over the battlefield, scanning for enemy forces while small arms fire rattles off its armour.... Then it sights a target and engages with extreme prejudice before repeating the process.
I took the wolf thing off the front. I'm thinking either cover the gap with greenstuff as a single panel, or cut and fit a giant wolf skull into the gap... I'm leaning towards the panel more, as this thing isn't really a Wolfbrother device and wouldn't have permanent heraldry built in.
Let me know your thoughts

Cultists, Mutants, Traitors, & Dregs of Society - a Lost and the Damned PLOG

Then suddenly I saw it. With only a slight churning to mark its rise to the surface, the thing slid into view above the dark waters. Vast, Polyphemus-like, and loathsome, it darted like a stupendous monster of nightmares to the monolith, about which it flung its gigantic scaly arms, the while it bowed its hideous head and gave vent to certain measured sounds. I think I went mad then.

Thanks LostCarcosa, hope to have paint on today

Can anyone think of something roughly the same size as a Dreadknight but less static looking for later Soul Grinder builds?

Hey gummyofallbears, wlecome to the madness of the Wolfbrothers!

For your viewing pleasure today, more work on The Red Baron. Finished his carapace stripes and continued highlighting his sword, and built up a base as well. Although the Baron wasn't around for the fighting around the Cadian Gate, he has battled alongside his adopted Chapter across many Imperial (or formerly Imperial) worlds

He's a big guy

Got the white nice and crisp; need to finish off the red and the rivets though

This is the base sans Baron. It'll have some sand/ rock mix to represent shattered road, and then I'll spray it

Hey EDC, yeah he's a monster... It's awesome. Took him for a quick spin; learned the hard way to steer clear of the Bloodthirster with the strength D axe.... But killed a few Imperial Knights and some super-heavy tanks in other battles, and shot that Bloodthirster down in a rematch

But I digress!

Been working on the Iron Priest, Olric Winterhand who, of his own volition, joined the Wolfbrothers so they had someone experienced running their Chapter Forge. Rules-wise he's a Black Legion Warpsmith with the Eye of Night artefact. He looks like a tricked-out Long Fang because he basically is, the beam cannon he carries (his own design, of course) can either fire single blasts (the Curse Machine ability) or be overcharged to unleash a heavier blast (the one-shot Eye of Night effect). He's not finished; still needs the melta and flamer his mechatendrils give him, and some grenades. I'm going to add a frost blade bayonet to his gun to represent his power axe.

Also did some more work on the Sicorax Walker

Nothing earth shakingly brilliant, but I did get some paint on the Sicorax Walker today. It'll have a Taghmata Hvergelmir colour scheme, with the banner and wolf tails the only real tie to the Wolfbrothers. It isn't technically theirs, after all

So, another night of insomnia... Ah well! I got a bit more done on the Sicorax

Not 100% on the red shoulder pads. Thoughts?

Puttering through the bitz boxes earlier, I concocted this steampunk minigun looking thing; and since Wulfrik Voiwalker was missing a gun arm I decided it'd be a good fit. It's a butcher cannon, so 36" S8 AP4 Heavy 4 goodness

The book is there primarily because I had to cut the hell out of the shoulderpad to fit the cannon and fittings, particularly the double toothed cogs that seem to adjust elevation/ depression. Now that I'm looking at the model I think replacing one of the kneepads with a wolf icon from the Wolf Guard terminators, adding some fur on the left shoulder or combining that with a Wolfbrothers symbol, probably a loin cloth/ fur, and some bitz that make it look like Wulfrik's ancient chassis has been put back together by well-meaning amateurs... Because it was.

Also his chainfist needs a soul burner or similar, and a havoc launcher on the carapace to complete the look.

Need to fit all the above without making it look too busy, too. Challlenging....

Have a good one!

Almost finished the painting on the Sicorax, need to finish highlighting the eyes though. Also, need some help: Does the grey banner blend too much? I was thinking I'd take it off, greenstuff the back into some fur and paint it up as a pelt with an engraved wolf's head. Thoughts?

On a random, fluff-ish, note, this Guilliman thing is intriguing... I already have the Wolfbrothers returning to the Imperium M42, Great Company N'Ton being the only surviving full-strength Company the Wolfbrothers could muster after the horrors of the Steel War. N'Ton's forces are sent to make contact with the Imperial Fists, Blood Angels and Space Wolves, and carry with them the cumulative gene-lore of their Chapter which could aid the Space Wolves against the Curse of the Wulfen and the Blood Angels against The Flaw (and particularly aid the Flesh Tearers). They make contact with Imperial forces in the ruins of the Cadian Gate, where the stave off an assault by Black Legion forces. The army they fight alongside directs them to the Ultramarines, the commanders of the defence efforts, where they meet Cato Sicarius who doesn't at all trust or believe them.

The small issue here is that (as rumour has it) Sicarius is one of Guilliman's envoys.... Will The Primarch listen to his envoy's suspicions, or will he take the gift of an advanced, well-armed, allied force to aid in protecting the Imperium?

Wulfrik Voidwalker, the ancient Contemptor dreadnought of the Wolfbrothers, was once a much different creature. As a Space Wolf he fought through the Heresy and later Scouring, cleansing the tainted worlds of the traitors alongside his legion and Primarch. Then he was called Bloodfang, a berserker of horrifying excess and darkest rumour. When not fighting his rage led him to gnaw upon his shield, armour or lips, and he was very closely watched by the Wolf Priests. He amassed a savage tally of slain foes, and when he finally fell he was interred in one of the few remaining Contemptor dreadnoughts the Legion possessed; for his rage was sorely needed in those times. When the Codex Astartes of Guilliman was finalised and implemented, Wulfrik Bloodfang was turned over to the Wolf Brothers Chapter with many other weapons of war, and his rage was lauded amongst the new Chapter, eager as they were to make a name for themselves separate from their parent Legion.

The tale of the fall of the Wolf Brothers is a dire one indeed, and is recount4ed elsewhere, but as they fell into mutation and madness the Dreadnoughts were often called upon to lead or advise for they were lucid where others were not. Wulfrik himself, although battle-crazed, was also incredibly loyal to the Emperor and he guided many warriors back from the brink of damnation. Eventually however, the Ordo Astartes intervened, declaring the Chapter tainted beyond reconciliation. Wulfrik was with a particularly vicious group of his brothers when the warning of the coming purge was received from Fenris. Incensed by what they saw as betrayal by the Imperium, over three quarters of the assembled Wolf Brothers turned their back on the Imperium. Many simply vowed to live independently, but others took a darker path. The company's Battle Leader, a red-bladed warrior with a lengthy saga of glorious deeds, threw off the trappings of Imperial service, revealing that he had long followed the Blood God Khorne. His Wolf Guard, to a man, turned their weapons upon those unwilling to join them in damnation.

The war that raged upon the battle-barge lasted weeks with the Chaos marines rapidly taking charge of the bridge but the Loyalists, led by Wulfrik, another Dreadnought and a pair of priests, scattering into the bowels of the ship and fighting a guerrilla war of sabotage and hit-and-run strikes on their former fellows. The Loyalists inevitably fell, outnumbered horribly as they were, and the last three to fall were Wulfrik and the priests. While the Caster of Runes spent his strength battling the possessed corpse of his Wolf Lord, Wulfrik and Iron Priest forced a path to the hangars, intent on stealing a ship. Wulfrik had his legs torn from him by a powerful daemon-beast mere metres from the hangar doors but the Iron Priest would not let him fail. Horribly wounded, he used his servo-harness to drag Wulfrik's intact sarcophagus beyond the doors and seal them shut. With daemons hammering at the doors, he placed a cryo-stasis pod used for storing food inside a Thunderhawk and dragged the shattered Dreadnought within.

Wulfrik awoke to stars. He was still within the cargo crate, but the front of it had been seared off and the Thunderhawk was no more. No one replied to his vox hails, and his weapons systems were so badly damaged he could do nothing but stare, unmoving, into the rolling void until darkness took him, The destruction of the Thunderhawk, moments after its departure from the tainted Battle Barge, had short circuited the stasis field Wuifrik dwelled in. While it operated most of the time, it would switch off for minutes or even hours at a time before coming abruptly back online. Within the stasis field Wulfrik had no knowledge of the passage of time, and reality became a disorienting jumble of constantly shifting vistas. Throughout the millennia, Wulfrik spent centuries staring into the depths of endless space. It is likely he went mad, but by the time he was rediscovered in M40 by the Space Wolves of the Lost Companies, he was a lucid, if taciturn, warrior. The superstitious Iron Priests, upon discovering his identity, refused to work upon such an ill-omened war machine. As a link to their deep past, however, he had to be preserved, and so Wulfrik was properly placed into the deep sleep common to dreadnoughts, hidden from all and forgotten.

When Holgir Bearclaw created Kolvjon and then his Company, forging the Wolfbrothers, the Iron Priest Olric Winterhand took it upon himself to remove Wulfrik from storage and present him to the new Chapter. He awoke the ancient warrior and spoke at length to him of these new Wolfbrothers. At first reluctant, Wulfrik agreed on the condition that he never again be made to sleep. Olric presented the shattered chassis to Holgir, declaring him to be Wulfrik Voidwalker. Long past his berserker rages, Wulfrik accepted his new title. The Wolfbrothers took to restoring him with the assistance- never hands on, only advice- of Beowulf Ironbreaker of the Winterborn; the only Iron Priest with the knowledge or desire to fully restore a Contemptor-pattern Dreadnought, During this process, Wulfrik commanded that his shattered right arm be replaced with a firearm, instead of his previous chainfist, better suiting his new persona. He also called for the removal of the remaining runic insignia on his armour, declaring that Bloodfang was no more.

The Voidwalker has become a valuable asset to the new Chapter, teaching Holgir of battle tactics and ancient victories alike and, albeit rarely, speaking of the terrifying beauty of his centuries drifting through the void.

I bought this guy a while ago, to make a Vindicator for a FIst of the Gods. On getting it home, I found that the primary hull piece was almost the size of a Land Raider, and this would be far too large to be a believable Vindi. Thanks to the Internet, that most reliable of sources, it seems the Typhon heavy siege tank is also about the size of a Land Raider. What a coincidence.

Presenting my counts-as Chaos Typhon for the Wolfbrothers. It'll have some 40K bitz to bling it up, but will be basically what you see here. Upgrades-wise, it'll have the lot: sponson and pintle heavy bolters with malefic ammunition, havoc launcher, armoured ceramite, dozer blade made from a Goliath Rockgrinder so it counts as Destroyer Blades as well, warpflame gargoyles and a dirge caster

Torygg Geneweaver is the only wholly Fenrisian Wolfbrother; with the partial success of Kolvjon, Holgir Bearclaw petitioned Jorek Greatwolf to allow him to use Fenrisian-born in his experiments. Jorek relented after the Sternhammer supported Bearclaw, but limited the new Chapter to a single Fenrisian initiate. If he failed, no others would be forthcoming.
Torygg was trained from birth in the ways of the flesh-sculptor, and when he was old enough was made a Wolfbrother. He was Holgir's apprentice for a time, then surpassed him, going on to become the most successful Wolf Priest of the Chapter. It was through his knowledge that the fourth and later generations were created and the threat of the Tithe mitigated. He later created the Grey Wardens and Varengii.

Torygg has been an idea I've had for a while, and whilst his rules don't completely reflect the benevolent fluff I've written for him he's still pretty useful Rules-wise he's Fabius Bile, and he will come to command a force of dudes later; the Varengii he created use the rules for a squad of Slaaneshi CSM's with Banner and Bile's upgrade attached, so they're all S5 I5 with FnP. I still need a weapon to stand in for his rod of torment, I'm thinking a mace of some sort, and he'll have a Space Wolf head on him too.

When the Nine Worlds were enhulfed in the Steel Wars, the 6th Generation of Wolfbrothers fought bravely but, lacking the savagery of their forebears, were swiftly overwhelmed. They were replaced on the front line by forces of the berserk 4th Generation and by squads of Grey Wardens who were deployed as quickly as they could be recruited. While they never entirely left the front lines, the 6th Generation were relegated to second line forces. This changed when the triplet Magi of the Taghmata Hvergelmir, the Parthians, created a multi-spectral shield that could be easily adapted to fit within modified power armour. The first test units of this armour revealed some flaws; the shields interfered with vox-traffic, and had such a high power requirement that movement within the modified armour was slow. Speed was less of a problem, and it was decided that forces outfitted with such armour would simply have to make do, but lack of communication was a critical flaw. It was the Anatolii psyker-lord, Eoin Columba, who suggested using trained telepaths to create a psychic link with their squads and bypass the technological deficit in this manner. The first forces wholly outfitted with this armour proved to be incredibly resilient and powerful, and the majority of the remaining 6th Generation were quickly outfitted with Parthian armour and returned to the front lines.

So, these gents will be my counts-as Thousand Sons. Not sorcerous automata, simply heavily shielded within slow power armour. The Grey Knight teleport packs will be linked to bitz culled from my spare AdMech stash to create shield pylons across the shoulder pads and also along the chest harness, not unlike Tesla Armour from Fallout 3. The helmets are simple because they need to be; with no ability to use vox systems in Parthian armour they simply stopped installing them.
The Sergeants will use bared heads with glowing eyes to show their psychic might.
Later projects include a version of Cataphractii armour to represent Sekhmet Occult; WIP title is Iron Rain squads since you can run 4 heavy weapons per squad so they'd be more like a terminator devastator squad than anything else.

Forgeworld came through with the goods yesterday; many things. Most importantly, the House Terryn upgrade kit so I can finish the Dark Horse! Here he is as of 4pm yesterday at the local GW where he's being displayed in the window with Truvor Ironbound's pack, some Tithed, Wuifrik Voidwalker, Kazimir Hearthrazer and Gauldur Stoneseer.

Also did some damaging of Wulfrik; patching him up with random Ork bitz. The Lost Companies have an Ork Rok, formerly the home of the Mek Metal 'Ead, that they use as a Chapter Forge. It's been renamed Ironhjold and is under the watchful eye of Harald Haraldsson, The Iron Wolf, a monstrous cyborg Iron Priest; it still contains unplundered scrap heaps by the ton that anyone (if willing to accept the risks) can pillage. It is from such scrap heaps that most of the objects used to repair Wulfrik came from.

The Ork missilie rack is supposed to represent a Havoc Launcher, I'm still unsure on it. Perhaps cables will add something?

Also; Kharadon Overlords... Yes!!!! I'm thinking I need to acquire these models to add to my collection of bitz... That minigun on a Parthian marine will look sweet!

Anywho thanks again for stopping by, have a good one!

As Company Kolvjon grows, I find a need to move away from just creating troops and build some vehicles too. One upgrade I love is Destroyer Blades, as I plan to have the vehicles of the Company performing very close support so they'll inevitably smash into the enemy at some point. I wanted to make something that looked the part, but realistic, not just placing an Ork Deff rolla on the models (well, not all of them....) So I bought a Goliath, modified that for other uses later, and kept this:

Destroyer and dozer blade all in one! Should have a Rhino to put it on by the end of the weekend. For the Land Raiders, I'm thinking I'll use this offering from Kromlech; it served the Winterborn well

So, amidst all the bits and bobs I've been adding to the wider Chapter, I've forgotten some of the basics; some of the earliest members: the humble Space Marine Rhino, and the once-Chapter Master, Truvor Ironbound

Back before the coming of Holgir and his ability to control the Wulfen, the warriors who would become the Wolfbrothers were prisoners of the mad Inquisitor Rathmine and spent their days struggling to survive. Their leader was Truvor, who hatched the plans to overthrow Rathmine and who later convinced Holgir to use his skills to aid them. The plan had always been that Holgir would be a lieutenant to Truvor, but during the breakout he was horribly wounded, being saved only by irreversible surgery that mated his shattered body with a medical exoskeleton. Over the decades and later centuries since, Truvor, given the name Ironbound, has had his armour substantially modified until it now incorporates advanced shield generation systems and thick artificer-finished armour plates

I started modifying Truvor a while ago, to give him a much more heroic look, and this is where I'm currently at. I also changed his Gift of Chaos to better reflect his fluff; in place of +1 WS I gave him +1 Wound and Toughness and Feel No Pain (5+).

Also added that destroyer/ dozer blade to a Rhino, to accompany Norugun's Pack of Company Kolvjon, the Possessed pack with the most love thus far. As the Wolfbrothers don't get access to the cool toys of their Space Wolf cousins, and for quite a while can only muster a handful of Rhinos (and also because the Chaos Vehicle gear is eclectic and cool) I'm planning to build this as a mini tank of it;s own design, so extra armour plating, a hurricane bolter-type weapon for the 3 pintle guns it has, a havoc launcher, and obviously the destroyer blade and dozer blade upgrades. I'll use some AdMech bitz to add something like a Dirge Caster to it; rather than being a broadcast of pure Chaos it'll be something like the neurostatic interference wargear Sicarian Infiltrators wear, but placed upon a vehicle.

Possibly due to the influence of Disturbed, caffeine or public transport; or all the above, ideas for conversions are flowing!
The terminators of N'Ton El'Oban's company are getting Tartatos armour to best reflect their high initiative, along with Alpha Legion Headhunter bolters and the most streamlined heads I can find; Firedrake or Phoenix terminator heads perhaps?
Also going to build an Alpha Legion proxy Lord in the scale armour relic using the Armillus Dynat body with all the Legion icons removed or replaced; I'm thinking something very like the Witcher symbol dead centre of the torso armour. He's from the middle period of the Steel Wars, and will possibly get a small (I say that, but... plastic crack) force to lead.
I'm thinking brassy scales on the armour

Further thoughts; build the Terminators out of Phoenix Termies? Add Wolfbrother icons and remove EC icons obviously. That armour is gently ornate without being as crazy as 40K Sekhmet or as plain as standard Tartaros.

Great Company N'Ton: forged during the Steel Wars but completed too late for deployment, they cut their teeth cleansing the asteroid belts of the Nine Worlds of remaining Steel Brotherhood and Word Bearer forces before they were recalled and rearmed to perpetuate a giant hoax on the Imperium of Man.
I had a list for these guys using a CAD but with the release of Traitor Legions and some suggestions of my friends, I've come up with the following: Rapture Battalion with a Kakophoni as Core, a Raptor Talon and Terminator Annihilation Force as Auxiliaries, a Fist of the Gods and a Lost and Damned, and possibly a Helforged Warpack.
The Noise Marines were formerly Troops in the CAD, while the Terminators and Raptors were Elites and Fast Attack.
The Kakophoni represents the remaining soldiers of the 'Chapter' they're pretending to be, the Terminators and Raptors are the remaining veterans and assault specialists. The Helforged Warpack and Fist of the Gods represents the Chapter armoury and the Lost and Damned are wannabe Initiates.

A friend came up with the idea of either running dreadnoughts led by a Contemptor as the Helforged Warpack, or running a re-gunned Deredeo as a Forgefiend to lead them. I also think some re-gunned Thanatar battle-automata models could be used as Defilers.

Just thoughts for now; alternative takes always welcome. Have a good one!
