Depends how literally they take the meaning - the last two open day events had preview stuff but not anything that hadn't been already spoiled or shown in picture form on the Internet, I'm certain that the main preview item is going to be the rumoured rerelease of the original marine plastic set as they've been saying it was first released 30 years ago, and the set was from 1987. Forgeworld I'm guessing will have Leman Russ wolves, maybe the second Custodes skimmer ?
Either way, £5 is cheap entry to the exhibit hall regardless of the other stuff so I'm going, last year's new year event was pretty relaxed by comparison to other open days so hopefully this is a regular fixture.

Dunno about six months but this year they have had :
New Years
Forgeworld
Age of sigmar
40k
Age of sigmar was the worst , very very little to show and a lot of people had left after getting the new sigmarine guy. Though New Year's Day was free last year but you had to claim a ticket. I'm cool with paying a fiver as it sounds like they are doing a bit more this time.

Post by: Looky Likey
There was also the Black Library event and Gamesday. I didn't go to either of the AoS or 40k days as I rightly guessed they wouldn't have a lot new, but I've been to all the others.
I'm lucky in that I live quite close to Warhammer World and have nearby friends who want to go. We normally turn it into a full day out and go somewhere nice for lunch as Bugmans is always too full by the time we finish looking around.
I'll be going to the new year open day, I have high hopes that HH book 7 and the new Knight will be out on the day...

This miniature of Alfrid, showing him in his "disguise" complete with stolen gold, will be available at Warhammer World and selected events, but you can get it first on January 2nd! I actually thought it was the legendary panicking man from the Giant kit. And Alfrid, for those too lazy to go ant google, is some kind or minor character in Hobbit.

Wow. They took literally the worst part of the Hobbit films - the Jar Jar of the trilogy, if you will - and turned him into a miniature.

https://warhammerworld.games-workshop.com/2016/12/27/from-the-archives-warhammer-40000-rogue-trader/
Get your hands on an exclusive piece of Warhammer 40,000 history – Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader is coming back from the archives for 2017!
Throughout 2017 Games Workshop will be celebrating 30 years of Warhammer 40,000, and we’re starting the party at Warhammer World’s New Year’s Open Day. The book that began Warhammer 40,000 as a table top strategy battle game will be available, in a faithful reproduction, to add to your archives – It’s truly an artifact to be proud of.
How faithful is this reproduction? It’s been created from a scan of an original edition, taken from Games Workshop’s own Archives!
Alongside the Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader book a mug is also available, with the cover art wrapped around it, Crimson Fists blazing away in the now famous last stand formation.
The first time you’ll be able to get your book and mug will be January 2nd, and you’ll only be able to get them in person, at Warhammer World, and at selected events around the world through 2017.

One suspects that this -- allbeit in limited quantities -- will be at every show FW go to this year.
30th birthday and all that.
It will lack the pull-out sections -- they'll be included just not in the tear out format of yore ( and will be blue still) and, owing to a quirk of UK law m will have original typos et al still too.

Oh cool, so it's only one normally expensive travel, acommodation, and event ticket tax, rather than a ruiniously expensive one.
I'm starting to get heartily sick of GW's "you must be at least this wealthy to buy our product" garbage, if they really hate the idea of normal folk buying their stuff just increase the prices of the products themselves and be done with it.

When I read the “Faithful reproduction” part my first thought was “Including the crappy binding?”
Part of me would love to have a copy that I didn’t need to worry about keeping all the pages inside the cover and in order. But I can’t justify the cost/hoops I’d have to jump though to get one.
I’d love a mug on the other hand.
I’ll toss my vote on the “Why doesn’t GW want my money?” pile. I’m a stingy miser when it comes to spending, but I keep seeing these limited releases I’d plunk down cash for. But they need to be available at my FLGS, or even online. There isn’t even an official GW store within 100 miles of me.

When it comes to faces, most of it is the painting rather than the sculpting. I found with a lot of the older LotR models they looked terrible in pictures of painted models but in bare metal they actually look really good.

I would be excited if it was a re-mastered, properly reprinted copy available for sale. The "it's a scan of the original!" is not confidence inspiring. That sounds awfully lazy. That being said, I'd have considered buying one if it was a regularly available item. For $200+ on eBay in a month or two? No thanks. I am completely fine with GW limiting X, Y and Z to wherever they want to sell them. I think it's completely fair - but completely stupid at the same time. If the RT re-print is any good they could sell a lot of them. As indicated, they will probably sell a few of them. I don't pretend the understand the logic.
Ideally I'd have liked to see them release stuff like this as a print-on-demand style format. Bump the price, but let the market determine how many they buy.

Rogue Trader ruleset is the one book I had that didn't survive my college years - only it and the BattleTech Compedium had a binding that fell apart on me. I'd love a reprint, but that's a bit too far to go just to get a copy. And of course the scalpers will make it impossible to buy a copy off E-bay at a reasonable price.
I do wish they would set up a POD version, like on drivethruRPG that would be available, but GW would never 'devalue' their product like that...

Post by: Starfarer
I'm rarely super critical of GW, but the limited edition items are one they really need to work on.
If they want to do limited runs like the codexes through the webstore, that's fine. At least everyone has a fair shot at ordering them. But event only items for stuff like this is stupid considering they are just adding to the secondhand market for their products.
Nostalgia items like the RT hardback reprint are going to sell like crazy. Why limit your profit on this?
Anyway, if anyone is going to Adepticon and wants to do me a huge solid of grabbing an extra copy, please let me know. I'm happy to pay in advance via Paypal and cover shipping obviously, and a little extra for the troubles.

If a reprint would sell lot's of money, I am curious how much my original would go for. Not perfect condition but since it was only read as a book since I didn't find any players to play with at the time I am curious how much it would go for. Not going to sell it, but just curious how much it would go for.

That's kinda cool. I have two copies of the original. One hardback one softcover.
But, as was said, you can actually get them on EBay for a reasonable price if you don't have the desire or ability to ravel all the way to an event to get a reprint. They pop up from time to time.

This is about the long and short of it.
First run copies are easy enough to get, second run soft backs more so.
Flash the words 'Limited' on a release and you'd think they were talking about air the way some flail about, and for something the same people have merrily been ignoring for the last 20 odd years. Chill fellers, one look at the rules for following fire, vehicle damage points (and cost!) or vehicle turning radius, and you'll wonder what the fuss was about.

Plastic titans is certainly the way to go imho, so while the delay is a sad thing, it does mean more time for them to get everything done good and proper!

I do wish they would set up a POD version, like on drivethruRPG that would be available, but GW would never 'devalue' their product like that...
If a reprint would sell lot's of money, I am curious how much my original would go for. Not perfect condition but since it was only read as a book since I didn't find any players to play with at the time I am curious how much it would go for. Not going to sell it, but just curious how much it would go for.
They're listed on ebay anywhere from $60 to $250 or thereabouts.
Noble Knight resellers has a couple of copies for $60.

The massive succes of Blood Bowl has, it appears, taken GW completely by surprise...
You mean all the whiners, whingers, whackaloons, grumps, grognards, and gits online who've been saying for years that GW were thickos for failing to support and then canning the SGs..were... right?!
I'm shocked, shocked I tells ya. Shocked like I stuck a fork in an electrical socket. Shocked like a Hydra agent trying to fight Thor.
Seriously though, I'm really glad BB has been such a great success, both for its fans and for what appears to be the positive reaction it's caused at GWHQ - waiting for AT might suck, but plastic models will make it much more likely that the game takes off and becomes a staple at clubs and stores, rather than an extortionate niche product that most of us simply can't particpate in, which is good for everybody as it means more chances to play and a better chance of ongoing support & expansion from GW.
Mostly though, I'm hoping GW take BBs success to mean there's a market for the SGs as they were, and so give us proper Old World-setting Mordheim eventually.
Also I really want that "laspike" armed Custodes Contemptor. I totally won't buy it though. Nope. No chance. Too much to paint already. Why am I so weak...

New Years Open Day 2017
Fresh back from Warhammer World from the New Year Open Day.
First News...the only info I can at the moment remember...this may be a bit shambolic as I'm just putting down stuff I can remember and hoping it makes sense.
Horus Heresy – Book Seven:
Only asked about availability, Tony Cottrel thinks it is on for the Heresy Weekender, the book is at the printers at all being well the boats packed with black books should arrive back in the UK in time for the first week in Feb and the Horus Heresy Weekender.
Specialist Games – had a chat with Andy Hoare, as always a friendly chap who seems happy to answer what was almost certainly the fiftieth time he had heard the same questions being put to him that day.
Adeptus Titanicus:
Release has been put back. Mix of reasons including GW releasing this may be a very popular choice (really? Who would have thought?). Gives them more time to work on things and allow a bigger initial release with more models etc.
So far the Warlord, Reaver and Questoris Knights have been 3D modelled for the new game. Warhound is currenty being worked on.
A game is expected to be around five titans of any class. You pick a type of Maniple, such as Scout, Assault or Battle and pick accordingly. This means you could have a game of five Warlords v five Warhounds. You then take the difference in the two sides and the weaker side then gets to spend those points on other things, I can’t remember the name now of them – Stratagems? Something like that.
About nine titans a side is about the limit you would reasonably want, unless you have the time spare.
The emphasis of the game is controlling you titans and making decisions such as power levels, ramping up your generator makes you faster, more powerful weapons and shields but has consequences. Your titan has a personality and may not like what you try and do with it. Basically as you get in the novels the Princeps has to keep control over something which may not want to relinquish control. So if you have a bloodthirsty, hunter type titan trying to back away from a fight might not be the easiest thing to do.
Terrain has been done as have Realm of Battle boards which the buildings can fit onto. These are at the factory already so should be ready to go when the game is released.
There is no great desire to redo Epic. While we may get more games at the same scale – such as a massed tank version there is no desire to see a combined titan/tank/infantry battle. Basically they don’t just want 40k at a smaller scale.
There is a chance, though it may be small, we see some of the models at the Heresy Weekender in a month’s time.
Blood Bowl
Season Two book is likely April-ish.
Plastic Ogre player will be out soon. There will also be a plastic Troll. They decided to do these in plastic as they can be taken in so many team.
Elf Union team is being worked on, Nurgle will follow after these hopefully later this year (October?). Also Goblin team in plastic, I think from memory these will come before the Elves. Goblins were a must for plastic as they can be taken on their own as well as being taken as members of other teams.
Expect at least one Star Player to follow with each team, some may get two. The Skaven star player (two heads, four arm guy) will be here soon. Season Two will have a lot of Star Players in there, some known and some who are new.
Neoprene pitches are a go. The human and Orc pitches have been done as the first ones have arrived at GW to look at and test out. Forgot to ask when these are likely to be out.
[...]
Age of Sigmar Khorne Dragon - Lovely looking beastie. Expect to see it released in about three months.
Blood Bowl - Plastic Dwarf team with resin Death Roller, plus a couple of star players. Unfortunately pictures of some of the other models just didn't turn out well.
[...]
That'll do for now.

I asked and it was going to be like a lascannon. And there will be a larger dread coming at some point. If anybody is interested they also said that the Custodies transport was going to seat 10 Custodies.

I want Epic for the tiny dudes, but my brother will go bonkers for plastic Titans, I bet. I hope GW/FW really does turn this into a real starter set and stuff like Necromunda, Gorkamorka and Mordheim with DW:OK/Silver Tower-level of model quality becomes a reality.
And gimme dat Nuuuuuurgle team.

It would undeniably be great if the Titans were plastic. But lets not get too hyped yet. Its just a chance. GW/FW may give it some more thought and still decide to go with full resin.

That Epic comment seems, odd. Wasn't the whole point of going 8mm supposedly that it made the infantry look better? And surely the entire point of a small-scale combined arms game is that it lets you fight battles that simply aren't practical at 40K scale - most normal gamers do not actually get to play these hilariously huge Apocalypse games with thousands of infantry and multiple titans/superheavies on each side outside of very, very occasional multiplayer events, so to say that Epic is nothing more than 40K in a smaller scale is pretty disingenuous.

Was it mentioned that Titanicus would be Imperial only or will we be able to fight against Xenos and Traitors as well?

Like the original game it is set in the Horus Heresy and features Imperial vs Traitor titans battles

I just don't get this angle.
I would back a dumptruck full of money up to their door if I could play 40k in 6mm or 10mm again.
I want grand battles with hundreds of Marines/Eldar/Orks/etc, with tanks, flyers, dreads, Titans, Knight.... all the things!
It also easier to introduce kids into this scale, IMHO, because it's more like a boardgame that can lead to smaller squad based action, like 40k/Kill Team.

Post by: insaniak
It's particularly confusing given that Epic was regarded by many gamers as one of GW's best systems, and even though many similar units exist in both games, they play completely differently.
I don't have a horse in this race, as Epic never really grabbed me (Titans are great, but the largely detail-less infantry are a turnoff in most small-scale games, for me)... but the suggestion that it would just duplicate 40K seems to betray a rather astonishing lack of knowledge of their own game systems.

The fact they don't have a presence in the 6mm/10mm/15mm range continues to confuse me.
Obviously there's a market as several other companies are in there, and it's growing with new games fairly regularly.

That there is no GREAT desire, doesn't mean there will never be another Epic. It's just that it's not coming any time soon.

Sigh. There went my interest in SG's.
And they are sooooo flawed in that idea. Epic isn't just 40k in smaller scale. 40k is platoon/company scale game. Epic allows bigger battles than that. You don't get big epic battles just by upping model count in 40k. Apart from sheer practicalities(who has money and space? 6'x4' is already too small for many 2000 pts armies let alone bigger than that! Any titan makes any board I have seen to be too small. Including 12'x4'!) the rules dont' convey BIG battles.
2 steps forward, 1 backward.

It doesn't seem a big deal to me. They might have no great desire at the moment but they are obviously feeling their way.
So we get a fleshed out titan game, then a mass tank battle game; then an air superiority game... at that point in the distant future they'll realise the bulk of the models for an 8mm Epic are there and there's an appetite for it. They will obviously keep getting questioned about it.
The above is the most logical way of drip feeding us 8mm stuff in a cost effective way that is still playable upon release.

The RT re-print is reported to be of very good quality ( imo it should for 35 GBP)

Tony Cotterell (you can see his head in a couple of the pictures) brought a lot of bits from his own personal collection. When he opened some of the boxes he really wasn't sure what he was going to find in them. I suspect they have been sat in a dark cupboard for a long time.
I can confirm that the Rogue Trader print is really good quality. Having had to share one with friends when I was younger I snapped up this new reprint. I'm hoping they do 2nd and 3rd editions at some point as mine are fairly tatty now.

I believe that Baneblade in he photo is the scratch build one that was featured in WD.
I still have the pages with the templates on.
It has always been a "One day I'll..." project for me. Then I bought the plastic one.

2nd Ed. book with a pack of Sustained Fire dice would be quite popular I think Maybe even a template set with the funky Thudd Gun blast marker that had to be split-pinned together, or the card terrain that came in the box and was actually enough to cover a decent amount of space...

Post by: tneva82
I think set of templates would be more popular. Those are harder to custom make while sustained fire is easier to simulate. 1-2=1, 3-4=2, 5=3, 6=jam(albeit with side effect of 6 being bad result...)

Not quite the same feeling as seeing three of those jam symbols when firing your assault cannon though

Just use a die with a evil symbol on the 6
Don’t forget to keep your sustained fire dice out of normal circulation. Nothing quite like using them in a RPG session. Friend of mine made it through most of the night wondering why he was sucking so bad.

Didn't realise there was so much hate for the idea of re-releasing Sustained Fire dice in the hypothetical scenario of a 2nd Ed. reprint.
Maybe I was the only one that liked them and everyone else would rather convert D6 results. Maybe it's a nostalgia thing...
Hopefully Adeptus Titanicus won't re-use the hit location dice from Titan Legions, people will lose their minds.

No hate but on priority they would be on my bottom part. Dice you can simulate with current stuff. Templates less so so from purely practical sense templates are the ones I would prefer to buy.
This comes from someone who still plays 2nd ed. If I lose my templates it's going to be harder to replace those than sustained fire dice.
As long as templates ALSO come sustained fire is all fine and dandy. It's the idea of book coming with dice but no templates that's "this is not good". If GW would release the marker set(for reasonable price) I would buy couple just in case!

I'd actually pay out for one of GW's ultra expensive limited editions they do with the modern codexes if they did 2nd or 3rd edition will all of the trimmings.
I was told that the new Custodies tanks were modeled on the old shampoo bottle tank from Rogue Trader. As the Javelin Attack Speeder (I think) was also modelled on the same early STC then the Javelin should become available to Custodies?

Yep, almost everything in that picture is 50% scratch build. First and second editions were far more hobby-based than later editions of the game. I've said it before, but at that time, GW was run by a bunch of gaming geeks (and was suitably bankrupt most of the time). It was a very, very different atmosphere to current big-time gaming company stuff.
