Yeah, I might have made a bet that I could build a better 40k Chaos Cultist warband than someone. And I might have rolled my Chaos-Dedication-Dice and got SLAANESH, the one god I've never done befor. And I might (okay, I DEFINATLY DO) want to keep this cheap, cause I have a bunch of Eldar and KSons on my "to buy list". So help me! Please!
So I thought to myself: why not make OTHER people suffer with me! Muahaha (Slaanesh has already taken hold of me)!!! So I decided to create this: if you want to build a Chaos warband, this is your chance! Document your progress here, and at the end, you could win (something). Just reply with a short description of your Warband.
En Chaosity Waerbend:
Your Warband must have at least ONE daemon-equivalent, one psyker (unless your want Khorne), some kind of Priest or icon and a leader. The Warband must have between 4 and 20 members, but they can be anyone you want! Oh and it needs to be finished by AUGUST 12, 2017 . Points will be awarded for paint job quality, conversions and backstory, plus all-around creativity! So don't worry, just EMBRACE CHAOS!!!

Ok, to enter "officially" just post something along the lines of THIS:
Name: The Acolytes of Pain and Pleasure and Cookies
Patron God: Slaanesh, She Who Thirts
Short description: The Acolytes of Pain and Pleasure and Cookies are a band of mutants, heretics and daemons that follow the Chaos Space Marine Lord Allordrax Kar'ail Der'sha, the Doom of Sarvik IV, bringer of Pain, son of Slaanesh, ex-member of the Emperor's Children legion, Veteran of the Long War and numerous other titles. He and his followers have scoured the galaxy for centuries, searching for the mightiest of foes for them to slay in the name of Slaanesh. Due to the fact that most foes in the galaxy are quite powerful, they Warband only consists of a few members. But don't mention that.

Name: Legion of Dusty Magic
Patron god: Tzheech, That Tricky Ass Mudafuka
Short description: The Thousand Sons actually got their gak together for this, Magnus The Red and Arihman made up enough so they can be in the battlefield without killing each other. The rubrics have regained some sentience and no longer die when not with a psyker and all is well, except for the fact that the war band got lost in the warp with no way back home. So now the war band has set up a new Homeworld and in turn a new 'chapter' of the thousand sons.

Name: The Harbingers
Patron: Nurgle
Short Description: A Splinter fleet of the Death Guard 7th Grand Company, the Harbingers cannibalised their flagship, the Satoria Grandis, to form an asteroid base near the Maelstrom. From there they strike out, capturing and scavenging resources from Imperial shipping lanes and fellow Chaos warbands alike
Warcry:While not technically a warcry, an attack by the Harbingers is normally preceeded by the message "The End Is Coming" being broadcast throughout the target's comm systems, giving a brief warning before the first of the assault craft hit.

Great idea! It's just the motivation I need to actually paint some of my non-Eldar models here's my 'warband' (inverted commas as warband isn't quite the right term...).
Name: The Angels of Absolution
Patron Deity: Slaanesh, The Prince of Pleasure
Definitely not short description: The Angels of Ascension were formerly a loyalist chapter founded from the Blood Angels. During their time fighting in the glorious name of the Emperor they embodied the beauty and splendour of Sanguinius. Resplendant in glorious hand-crafted armour they were the very embodiment of Angels upon the battlefield, and beloved by the population of the Imperium. A love which was reciprocated by the Angels themselves. However, on every planet they served, they saw nothing but toil and misery.
Disillusion with the Imperium took decades to creep into their minds. Wherever they saw misery and opression, it was the machine of the Imperium to blame. This lasted until they were deployed to the world of Gomorr to quell a cult insurrection. Upon arrival, they saw the cult had spread nothing but joy and ecstacy to everyone it touched. At last, they had found the answer. Rather than quelling the insurrection, they pledged themselves to its cause and slaughtered the beleaguered planetary government. Reporting that the insurrection had been defeated, they returned to their duties, and resolved to bring the light of the cult to every new world they conquered.
It was decades before Inquisitor Io traced the source of the blossoming Slaaneshi cults in the sector to the Angels, finally deducing that the pattern of cults followed the chapter wherever it went. Marshalling the forces of half a dozen Imperial Guard regiments and a whole Space Marine chapter, they smote down the Angels and declared them Excommunicate Traitoris.
Since then, the surviving Angels of Ascension have changed their modus operandi. They scattered throughout the Imperium, acting not as a single warband but a myriad of individual agents. Each Angel descends upon a world, posing as a loyal Astartes, and sets about ingratiating themselves with various planetary powers. They preach the word of the cult, where the sacrifice of the noble few can ensure the absolution of the many. They corrupt the government, and convert the masses. Life is good for the faithful. The fate of those who pay the price for such a life is beyond comprehension.
Bedecked in exquisite finery, the Angels of Ascension appear to the world to be model examples of the Emperor's glorious Astartes. However, their elaborate facade hides their true nature. Beneath their statuesque masks lurks mutated predatory faces. The script of their purity seals twists and turns as it's read, subliminally implanting dark and twisted suggestions into an onlooker's mind. Truly the Angels are one of the most insidious threats this sector has faced in millennia.
Warcry: Less of a warcry, more a sensuous whisper in your ear that life could be much, much better for you if you just lay down your faith and accept absolution.

Short description: A King of a dead kingdom prayed to Khorne and made a pact with a Bloodthirster to keep his men alive if he followed the will of Khorne. Teleth Honour Bound was a King of honour and tradition and still upholds that in the name of Khorne, finding glory in killing only those worthy and does not prey on weaker civilisations. His warband, named after him as the Honour Bound, grow in number as more followers of Khorne see his strength and level of honour that other, more barbaric and canabalistic Khornite warbands fail to achieve.

I'm currently working on a Black Legion Warband but it has nothing too unusual about it other than all models are from the 2nd/3rd edition. I was planning my own warband at one point, although I don't know if if they will ever get off the ground now that the rules they were based around might get removed. Still, gonna throw them here just for fun:
Name: Brass Bloodhounds
Patron God: Khorne
Short Description: Formerly known as the Magna Marines, the Bloodhounds are a khorne-devoted warband known for it's use of mounted cavalry and daemon-mutated possessed marines. In their former life, they were given an unknown task which took them into the Eye of Terror. Unnaturally, they weren't beset by daemons, only a handful of traitors and heretics. Within the Warp, they found that they had the ability to tame the warp beasts, chief among them the huge Juggernauts of Khorne. Running low on resources, the Magna Marines decided to mount these beasts into war, as their ferocity were more than a match for the innumerable warp-spawned warmachines. Slowly, the marines bonded to their mounts, to the point that many of them could not stand being separated for an extended period of time. Some even slowly merged with their daemonic mounts, becoming red-skinned monstrosities. While at first any of these men were put down due to fears of heresy, soon the Marines came around to them, realizing that the possessed men still had their faculties; the daemon did not even try to disobey them.
Eventually, after centuries of ceaseless war and no reinforcements, the remaining marines lost all semblance of rationality. They no longer remembered their task or their duty to the emperor. They only cared for the sound of battle; to mount their steeds again (or to unleash the beast within) and to charge into the fray. For this was their fate; Khorne had foreseen their creation and crusade into the Eye, and had ordered his daemons to not resist. Slowly but surely, the souls of each of the marines had bonded to that of the Daemon mount they had. Now little more than automatons under the command of their own mounts, the Brass Bloodhounds rides to war at the opening of the 13th Black Crusade, eager to hunt down all those who have displeased Khorne. While only a handful of the original thousand marines remain, they are still a terrifying force upon the battlefield as the ferocity of the Juggernaut combined with the martial skills of a space marine can only be matched by the greatest of war machines.
Battle Cry: (An incoherent roar that sound like that of a thousand wild beasts)

Post by: Sauragnmon
Name: The Kharzan 319th, 16th Battalion, 8th Company, 8th Platoon.
Patron god: Considering the piece of my finger one bit off, I guess they serve Khorne.
Background: Kharzan is a rather climate-diverse planet out in the Veiled Region in Southern Segmentum Tempestus. Harvested for bulk troops to supply the Alpha Legion's regional operations, the Kharzan 319th is as diverse in appearances as the climates of its homeworld.
The 16th Battalion is recruited from one of the hive cities, the city of Sardesh. A feral city even by hive city standards, the soldiers of the 16th Battalion are armed with a variety of weapons, in some of the most irregular patterns of uniforms, a term used very loosely when it comes to the garb of the troops.
The 16th's 8th Company is from the underhives, a region where the finest weapons of the Imperial Guard don't tend to find their way very often. The 8th Platoon leans heavily on the use of Conscripts to fill its ranks, a band of gangers, freaks, cultists and psychopaths amongst a Platoon already noted for a bloodthirsty approach to warfare.
Project Tally:
ONE daemon-equivalent - TBD
one psyker (Omitted because Khorne)
some kind of Priest or icon (will be in Platoon HQ)
and a leader - see AL Marine above.

So decided on my Tzeech warband
Contents:
Demon equivalent: Magnus the Red
One Psyker: Arihman
Icon: Aspring sorcerer has a banner
Leader: also Magnus, we don't get much in terms of HQ's in TS and I don't want to have to pick up a Exalted Sorcer pack yet.
Troops: 11 Rubrics with Bolters, 5 Rubrics with Flamers and 2 Rubrics with Soulreaper Autocannons.

Well, first you draw a Chaos star somewhere (like the floor of a cave, the altar of a temple or on your mothers favourite shirt) and then place a Chaos rune at each of the four main points. After that, you just take four dice, preferably one red, one blue, one green and one pink, and roll them, releasing them above their corresponding runes. The one that roles highest wins, and the closer the winning dice is to the other 3 runes is how much your army/hero/whatever respects the other gods.
My progress so far!

And my idea for my cult leader (just not terribly photoshopped like this one )

I'll probably acquire a bunch of Renegade Militia torsos and such to bulk out the core of the Platoon's infantry, and use some Anvil Industry bits mixed in for good stuff. Depending on how my prints go, I might make my Thudd Gun count-as units part of the 18th Battalion's assets.
Gotta remember to keep to one project at a time so I can actually FINISH this stuff... hehe.

Thats probably a good idea, maybe I should try that. I currently have an almost-finish raven guard army, a halfway-finished KSons one, an AoS chaos army, an AoS Aelves army and now this. Oh, and a few Mechanicum minis Im working on. And Custodes. And an Eldar army...

I have more projects than I can care to number or list right now.. and that includes 3D models as well.
I try and focus on one squad at a time... of course, the fact I'm doing a full sized Conscript squad with a number of conversions involved for more diversity than the Chaos Cultists can muster alone by mixing in Catachan and Marauder bits, might take a bit more time.

Looks good!
I've made an overall plan for my cult:
The Acolytes of Pain and Pleasure and Cookies!
The Acolytes are divided into 6 separate Warpacks, each headed by a Pack Leader. Each Warband consists of several cultists, ranging from a handful to more than a dozen. The commander of the cult is the Warmistress, a Pack Leader who has risen to lead the Cult. Above her is Lord Allordrax Kar'ail Der'sha.
Organization:
High Court
Warmistress Sh'ere'kah
Lord Allordrax Kar'ail Der'sha
High Priest Khardon
Shiv'Terak, bearer of the cults emblem.
Host of a Thousand Shards
Pack Leader: Kaveri the Blooded
Priest: Durvasa
12 cultists
2 Space Marines
The Host of a Thousand Shards is the largest of the War Packs, due in part to its somewhat over-zealos recruiting policies.
The Burning Spear
Pack Leader: Sridhar One-Hand
Priest: Aruna Rai
7 cultists
1 Space Marine
1 Chimeara
The Burning Spear's banner is topped with the head of an Astral Claws space marine, who the cult has passionately named Ugly MacUglyface.
The Bringers of Cookies
Pack Leader: Chander
Priest: Gautam (named after an old schoolfriend of mine )
3 Cultists
1 Space Marines
The Bringers of Cookies embody the core principles of the cult. Before battle, the cultists will spend hours speaking utter nonsense, and once the fight commences, they will hurl themselves at the enemy, screaming their battlecries and pounding their foes with whatever they have on hand. Because of this somewhat unorthodox (even for Slaanesh's minions) battle doctrine means that the Bringers of Cookies are always low on recruits, but none the less invaluable assets to the Cult.
Hounds of the Dark Prince
Pack Leader: Nadkarni the Hunter
Priest: Adkashash
4 Cultists
1 Sentinel
The Hounds prefer to stalk their prey, sneaking behind enemy lines and taking prisoners, instead of attacking their enemy head on. They have somehow come across an Imperial Guard sentinel, dubbed Whisperstalker, and attach their Pack banner to its roof.
The Crystal Bearers
Pack Leader: Khare
Priest: Sitara Ravel
5 Cultists
2 Space Marines
Several Chaos Spawn
1 Chimeara
The Crystal Bearers are interested with the cults Spawn, and consist of several Flesh Shapers. Pack Leader Khare is the newest and most inexperienced of the Pack Leaders.
Allordrax's Chosen
3 Space Marines
1 Chaos Sorcerer Lord
1 Hellbrute
Allordrax's Chosen do not function like the other War Packs. Instead, they guard the Chaos Lord in battle. Their Hellbrute, Brother Kyraxus, is currently MIA. A search has been mounted to reach for it, with the Bringers of Cookies and Host of a Thousand Shards undertaking the mission.

Eh, I find it quite useful having a billion projects to work on. It means you never have a moment when there isn't something to do.
Of course, that doesn't work at all if you don't enjoy the processs of building armies, and rely on the rush of endorphins from completing something to maintain motivation. In other words, terrible idea for most people...
64607
Post by: Sauragnmon
I'm a bit of both - I love doing conversions especially when it comes to building, that's why my Cultists/Conscripts are blends of so many source parts.
Painting I enjoy as well, but it can be a grind for me with the line troops, so I need that little endorphin kick from completing something to help keep me going. It's a tactic I devised from having a Multi-Platoon guard collection. That's also why my platoons have different styles for each one, breaking up monotony.

I have my Thousand Sons Warband called The Orphans of Prospero. Their leader, Exalted Sorcerer Hatshepsut, does not feel any loyalty to either Ahriman or Magnus, but are attempting to find a way to bring the glory of Prospero back. They believe that when Prospero is returned, the rubric shall be broken. Hatshepsut is assisted by the Sorcerer twins Ahrimose and Chenzira, the Occult Sorcerer Urshe, and the Aspirants Adjo and Sefu.
EDIT: Read the first post more closely, I'll just do part of the Orphans, and maybe the rest if I get there.

I really should get more pictures up of what I have been up to. I have been working on a 40K Black Legion/Fallen Dark Angel force. I think I have enough CSM stuff I can leave the Fallen out if I want. The first wave of my stuff can be seen in my signature block. So far for the Black Legion: Chaos Lord Sorcerer Sorcerer in Terminator Armor Dark Acolyte 25 Cultists 20 CSM 7 Chosen 10 Raptors 5 Warp Talons 10 Terminators 2 Rhinos 1 Land Raider 1 Hell Brute 1 Mauler/Forge Fiend (my first magnetization model) Fallen Dark Angels: Company Master Librarian 10 Marines 5 Terminators 6 Veterans 5 Scouts 5 Renegade Guard 3 Bikes I am still in the process of building my Fallen Dark Angel Vets as I don't quite know how I want to model them. So far I have the Sgt with a plasma pistol and powermaul. I am thinking about a powersword and shield guy too. Ultimately, I am thinking of creating a 5 man assault suicide squad with them. At the same time, I am considering a plasma/combi-plasma squad too. The 5 Renegade Guard are mostly there for extra cultists to get mixed in. The scouts are for a friend who really likes sniper units so he can use them in Kill Team.

I'd love to be able to contribute with my own Slaaneshi warband if I may, but unfortunately I'm away from home for a while and won't be back until the end of June - but if it's alright I would like to submit my own Cult of the Sixth Symphony for your consideration:
Name: Cult of the Sixth Symphony
Patron God: Slaanesh, the Dark Prince of Excess
Short Description: led by the captivating danse macabre of the Masque of Slaanesh, this rag-tag band of traitors, renegades and fallen space marines, formerly of the Emperor's Children legion, quest across the galaxy in search of new sensations and sounds to please their dark master. None know for sure what the Masque seeks, but the Cult of the Sixth Symphony are obsessed with musical genius, and theatrical flair. What little joy and entertainment persists within the rotting carcass of the Imperium shall not long elude the handmaidens of Slaanesh.
Warcry: 'Come mortals, join with us in the dance of death!'
Like I said, I'm away from home for a period so won't be able to post any pictures until at least the 24th of June, and if that's too late for everyone then please do let me know! I shall follow this thread with interest...

Rest of the Warband: 14 Breachers and a corrupted Iron Circle robot (Hellbrute)

This seems like a lot of fun! I'm making a small nurgle force for 8th, and including the DI starter set, I have the DV chaos side (may not use the brute, who knows?) and a small group of FW renegade guardsmen, who up until now were chaos undivided, but I'm gonna pull the trigger on the nurgle with them. I made a counts-as Typhus using the Termy hero from BoC and a couple zombie sprues and the insides of a Brita filter to act as the leader. The name of the war band is the Children of Bryophyta, specializing in trench and siege warfare and attrition. Renegade guards are expendable as their losses will 'become' more pox walkers and zombies. The army is gonna be a bone and corroded brass affair, with moss and mold growing on the armor. Pics soon!

Sure, as long as it isn't 15 bane blades. The goal is to make something blanchitsuesque, and plenty of his war bands have vehicles. A hell brute fits quite well.

Love this thread. Unfortunately my phone is broken which is the only way I can take pictures, but here are my warbands anyway.
WB-1: Coven of the Coruscating Gaze
Thousand Sons Warband, been around since the heresy, small force of a few psykers and a task force of Scarab Occult and Rubricae.
Current models: 6 Exalted Sorcerers, 20 Rubricae, 10 Scarab Occult, 1 Lord of Change
Colors: Dark blue and a reddish bronze, red and purple striping, all psykers are a lighter shade of blue
WB-2: Vectorium of the Thrice-Plagued
Death Guard Warband, also been around since the heresy, highly militarized and organized, around a force of 700 marines, led by a triarch, with each member of the triarch the host of a different hive of plaue-flies (hence the thrice-plagued). Usually the only Poxwalkers they take onto their ships for the next campaign are fallen soldiers. They wear bright orange cloth stripped from whatever the Imperial equivalent to Hazmat are purely to insult the enemy.
Current models: 2 Lords of Contagion, 14 Plague Marines, 2 Blightbringers, 2 Plaguecasters, 40 Poxwalkers, 2 Bloat Drones
Colors: Swamp green with brass trim, some bone weapons, dark blue/green flesh, bright orange cloth
As soon as I can get pictures up I'll try to show what I can

I'll just describe the ones I intend to put together whenever I can actually get my hands on some new marines. I'm gonna get around to giving them a real name eventually. Tell me if one pops into your head.
Name: The Cerulean Sabers.
Patron God: The New Emperor, probably little bits of everybody else too.
The Cerulean Sabers were trapped on their ocean home world Clamagore for several millenia(maybe too long) after their founding by warp storms. The world is dotted with submerged and partially submerged ancient xenos ruins composed of columns and arches of basalt, the largest of which serves as the fortress of the Sabers. Early during their period of entrapment, the progenoids of the few marines were found to be failing. The lone apothecary examined his options after transplantations to seemingly suitable humans failed to support the withering organs. Finally the progenoids were observed to thrive in a species of crustacean taken from the depths. These creatures grew large due to the hormones produced, but they allowed the chapter to resume its recruitment activities from the local sea tribes. They began to tame the now powerful creatures as mounts and companions as well, to stave off boredom in the long years of isolation. To the current generation of Cerulean Sabers, the world outside was only a story, but through their psykers they have learned the state of things. The Imperium has fallen and among all of the Emperor's warriors, only the loyal Sabers remain thanks to the storms which sheltered them while they built their strength. Though their gene seed is faulty, and made no better by the surrogate hosts, their minds are sharp and the claws of the lobster marines sharper. They won't be deluded by the falsehoods spilling from the voxes of the demons and xenos dwelling in mankind's hollow shells. The head apothecary has seen the Emperor's new body forming beneath the hollow shell of the largest lobster of all in the deepest layer of the fortress, and it gives hope to all the marines who will fight to restore man's creations to man.
I guess they'll be blue-green.
Edit: Oh wait crap, cultists? Like humans with autoguns? Hell, I dunno.

You don't actually need to use cultists, using actual marines works too, especially since your fluff is awesome.

Sweet. I'm thinking that the lobsters might work as demons. I'd have to straight sculpt that of course.

Name: The Fingers of Angron
Patron God: Khorne
Short description: The veterans of the Horus heresy have resurfaced. Powerful Sergents have come into contact with their long despoiled primarch, and are attempting to return the World eaters legion to its prior glory. For the glory of Angron, Khorne, and the bring death to the emperor's dogs.

I shall be entering (horribly late for how long I need so no promise on a return).
Name: The Forgoers of Faith
Patron God: Malice
Short description: After being presumed dead by his chapter, the white shields, Lucius the Techmarine, who had been Magically altered by high levels of radiation into Lucius the Demonought, wandered the world he was stranded on. Over the years Lucius, although being invisible most of the time, gathered a following of cultists. In the wastes of his irradiated crucible only one Astartes was found a chaplain of the Imperial fists. Though being one of the marines who forced the change to Lucius, he quickly became a loyal servant of Lucius and his greater master, Malice.
Battle Cry: Repent the ruinous and forgo the faithful!
It will have:
Lucius (In no relation to the terrible Slannesh one. I am revitalising a character from a previous campaign)
Cherub ( I may accidentally refer to him as Charlie)
30 Cultists.
This is mostly an effort to revitalise some of my Dark Vengeance Models.

After a bit of work I have got most of the work done on Lucius my demon prince. He initially looked like this: First I had to choose weapons (axe & Warp bolter) These have/will be mounted on his body but first I have to finish the arm conversion that so far has not used any green stuff. This has been done at a feverish pace and along with special modding to the base has got me to this point: I realise that I probably overdid the basing for what is still essentially a dark vengeance helbrute but I don't think it looks that bad so far.

Started work yesterday on a chaos army to take to Mayhem next year, so might as well post stuff here.
The Iron Host is a warband of Iron Warriors under command of the tyrannical Warsmith Uragh the Maker. Binding daemonic entities to his demented constructs, Uragh is as paranoid as his former liegelord Perturabo and trusts noone save his automata. Serving him is a host of fleshmetal monstrosities and several squads of devoted Iron Warrior followers. In battle, Uragh and his brethren herd their worker slaves towards the frontlines to gauge the strenghts of the enemy and create oppertunities for automata assaults;
Project as it is is a 1k list consisting of the following:
Chaos spearhead detachment
Warsmight Uragh the Maker on his heretek abbeyant (I use a chaos sorcerer on nurgle palanquin statwise; the extra T & W represent his severe bionic & fleshmetal augmentation and the palanquin's attacks represent his snapping & stabbing mechadendrites)
The Brethren of Thunder, 5 members of the Lyssatra of old, guncrafters and marksmen whithout peer: 5man Havoc squad with 2 plasmaguns
Uragh's Menagerie: several of Uragh's crazed creations: a Soulgrinder, a forgefiend with hades autocannons and a hellbrute with fist & multimelta
Astra Militarum battalion detachment
Uragh's slavehost, goaded into battle by fanatical followers of the Host.
2 Company Commanders
4 10man infantry squads
1 heavy weapon squad with 3 lascannon teams.
Started working on this band of loons yesterday, kitbashing the rough base of the Abbeyant for Uragh himself. Haven't made pictures or anything just yet. Hope to get some work into this lot during this week.

Neat group Aameul. How do allies work in 8 anyway? Can you still use the renegade guard thing FW has?
I'm attempting to cast a clear carapace for my counts-as maulerfiend lobster. Am not an experienced caster and I have a shortage of materials, so not the most hopefull.

Alright, painted these other three figures real fast this morning. Sorry, pictures aren't the best. Here's the four figures I built for this before running out of legs and shoulders and torsos. I gave them each one pauldron because I only had three normal marine pauldrons, and one chaos star pauldron that was easily enough made plain. I would like to put some chapter image on the blank pauldrons, but I've yet to think of one that I truly like. The silver fish thing exists because I was having too much trouble thinking of something else. My criterion was that it had to not be a lobster, because the Sabers of Clamagore would have had the symbol before they became afflicted with lobster craziness. A fish seems suitable at least. The eyes are candy corn. Their ceruleanish armor color is inconsistent because I kept trying to remix the paint, rather than do all four of these at once like a smart person. I admit to being fond of nothing poses. The figures are on Boylan rootbeer caps because the beach bases I started to make were not working as planned, and basing marines on bottle caps seems funny to me. They're the wrong size under new and old basing guidelines!
The leader is tis fake apothecary, I think. He'd actually be a warpsmith since chaos apothecaries don't leave the house. He'd probably use his powers for the lobster maulerfiend which I was unable to finish. Name? Uh uh uh, Calod Homarus the Migration's Witness. Calod never appears without his helmet, defying HQ tradition of exposing unprotected brain cases to enemy fire. This is because, though he does not show any obvious anatomical changes like many of his battle brothers, his multi-lung did unexpectedly partially break down while consuming his original lungs, leaving him with a frilly gill structure that only allows him to breathe water. Thus, his armor is flooded at all times. He is the member who first observed the emperor's new body while tending the lobster stock, and he accompanies its host lobster into battle. The narthecum thing is a bit off of an old Necron wraith's hand. I was pretty happy at managing a proper fade from red to black on his sword. He's got some tanks on his backpack to make it looks more like an apothecary's, as well as a leather bag thing on his assplate which presumably has some medical goodies in it, or grenades.
I started making this one maybe last year, sculpting the lobster tail after I got the claw arms from Spellcrow. Somehow it's impossible to catch any evidence of the tail existing with a shot from the front, and I managed to fail to focus from the back. I'd run out of normal backpacks at this point, hence he is wearing a chaos backpack with the arched pipes cut down and the exhaust ports reglued at a normal position. It actually does make for a cool backpack. I guess this guy would be a possessed marine, and hopefully those are usable at all in this edition.
This guy is still the first one I painted. No change. Of course I couldn't exactly replicate his armor color.
They need a standard bearer of course. As I said, the happy fish isn't genuinely what I want to use, but I wanted to try making one of those greenstuff banners. In the future, I'd try to make these thinner and try to add folds and such before curing. Couldn't get it out of the mold intact before curing, though. I avoid these unhelmeted heads if I can, because I haven't figured out how to paint eyes yet, as you can see in the second image.
https://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/896389-.html?m=2
Group image, in which you can see that I needed to add more green to the armor paint for the later three figures. Hrmmm, and it's making me want to go back and paint over the spikes on the apothecary's shoulder. In person they managed to catch paint from the airbrush to give them a neat faceted color thing, but it doesn't come through in these terrible images of course.
This is the lobster maulerfiend thing in its current state. I don't have casting materials, which I wanted to use to replicate the legs and claw so as to waste less putty, and do a clear version of the carapace to stick the horrid lobster fetus of the fake xenospawned emperor under.

Finished!
I really enjoyed this project. Normally, I spend a lot of time on one model, so it was a really nice change of pace to build and paint a whole warband.
I also really loved painting the new Dark Imperium models. I didn't get the promised Daemon finished, but I did a Plague Drone instead.
Below are The Sons of Rust. Trapped in the Eye of Terror for more than a millennium, they finally made their way out aboard their battlebarge 'The Bucket'. A thousand years under a thousand stars has bleached their armour the colour of bone, whilst bright orange and brown rust has eaten away all but the barest hint of metals. The Sons of Rust see these corrosions as Nurgle's gifts however, blessing their blades and bolters with unholy power. Severathon's followers see their thousand years of entrapment as a kind of pilgrimage, a trial-by-fire that strengthened their resolve to destroy the false god-emperor and his sycophantic followers.
The Sons of Rust place great importance upon the number 3, their squads always grouped in multiples of three to worship Father Nurgle's Rust, Rot and Ruin.
Thanks to EmberlordofFire for running this thread - I have really enjoyed the project and working to a timeline with a bunch of other interested folk has proven a genuine inspiration. I'm tempted to do a similar thing with AOS skirmish warbands. I also look forward to seeing everyone's entries!
Thanks heaps, EmberlordofFire!

Fantastic work, guys! Glad you managed to finish in time...
Seeing as most of the others haven't finished yet, I've decided to move the deadline forward a bit (also because my last cultist's legs are still in the mail...). So the 12th of september will be the FINAL DEADLINE, and everyone who doesn't finish by then will have the wrath of all 5 chaos gods to deal with...

I might as well join, Christmas holidays and all, here goes.
Splinter cell delta-34
offshoot of the main legion tasked with assassinations of "hard targets", these guys are the cream of the legions assassination experts
will have about 5 guys maybe more, does a possessed marine count as a daemon?
Do I need to devote these guys to a god, and if so, does it have to be one of the big four?, drachny'en might be worthy of worship by these guys if a deity is required.

Dark Apostle
Daemon Prince
Daemon Prince with Wings
Boagrius, Leviathan Dreadnought of the Wandering Sons
More cultists
Khyrum Saal, Chapter Master of the Wandering Sons
Oktos, Exalted Champion
