Welcome all to the 32nd round of the Unofficial Painting Challenge here on Dakka. For anyone who's unfamiliar with the format, this is a simple community challenge open to anyone on Dakka, the aim of the game being to paint a model or set of models relating to the month's theme and win points for doing so!
This month, the traditional Halloween/October theme returns with Fright Night. As always, this is open to interpretation however you like, whether that's a Genestealer lurking in the shadows or the terrifying visage of a victim of the Curse of the Wulfen, a ghostly form of a long-dead warrior or the unknowable horror of a Dark Elf sorceress's power. The scarier and more thematic, the better!
How To Enter - You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama - You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting. - After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 6 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are certainly acceptable, please keep the image limit in mind when compiling them. For example, a collage of 5 images and one separate image would count as your 6 picture allowance.
So What Do I Win? - Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month! Following the vote, points will be awarded to every entrant. This year, the Points you receive will be equal to the Percentage of Votes your entry receives in the final Voting thread; if you get 10%, you get 10 points, if you get 6% you get 6 points, so on and so forth.
These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.
How Long Do I Have? This challenge begins 1st of October and will end at midnight GMT on the 31st of September. After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.
OK, bit of a stretch here, depending on how long it takes me to build, and if I get a good day to prime. And then get all that done leaving enough time for my slow self to get paint down. But if all that lines up, I’m going to try to get some hexwraiths done. I’m also going to try do get the skeletons done, to finish off my start collecting box, so might do a mix, depending on my mood and how they turn out.
But if I can’t manage that, I’ll be entering Tippy, the loneliest hormagaunt.
Not really too sure how much I have for this one, so I'll enter this for now, but may change depending on what I find in my collection! So (for now), I'll go for the Tenebrael Shard; I imagine bumping in to him in a dark alley would definitely put a bit of Fright in your Night.
*EDIT* Had to change entry as these Plague marines need to be painted up! One day I might get round to finishing Silver Tower... one day...
I'am in again, might as well been on this roller coaster a few times now, kinda used to it.
Will Be entering the 40k Universes Creepy Crawly's with a Scarab Swarm,Will take a better proof pic when i can.
I been thinking about what I want to enter this month and I did get out a Undead Dragon but thoughts kept bubbling away and I thought i'd go for something much more scary, I was gong down the Orks in Fancy Dress route and remembered this scene.
Spoiler:
So thought I would go with an Ork Batman and Robin - These guys coming out of the mist on a dark night, something that will frighten criminals everywhere
Hmmm...not sure if I should enter some Poxwalkers or some kind of Daemons for this one. Khorne knows I've got some Bloodletters and Flesh Hounds that really need some finishing, but honestly I feel like I should do some Nurgle stuff in honor of the Death Guard release. I'm most likely going to go with Poxwalkers as I'm working my way through the Dark Imperium set anyways; might as well start with those when I move over to the Death Guard half.
i think this will be my first ever entry but my painting skills arent up there like many of the people ive sene in the threads but for my entry.... My converted Dimacheron.....

Spoiler:
That is exactly what I intend to enter too! Definitely fits the bill for the theme, I think. Few things would give you as much of a 'fright' to put it mildly...

i followed a german forum thread tutorial on this guy... but did many extra steps to make it rock solid
Paradigm wrote:Only Fools And Orkses? By Midget Gems? Hell yes!
probably one of the best episodes. I'm looking forward to this one a lot and a brilliant title for it =)
Eek hope I haven't set myself up for a fall here. I don't know how well I can do an Ork in Batman Fancy dress (let alone make it look like only Fools and Orkses). Yeah I like that episode too.
Well in keeping with halloween may i present mr ghouly van ghoulstein. My mourngul for my nighthaunt army thats been doing pretty well at my local gw for a path to glory campaign. Shame i cant use him for that but i think he will come in handy in sigmar.
Oh this month is going to be super fun! Some amazing crazy monsters will come out of the woodwork this month not to be seen for another year! I'm thinking about going classic monsters like King King, Dracula, WereWolf, Lizardman, stuff like that! Daemon princes would be fun, paint up like 5 of them and then go table someone! haha!
Don't suppose you've got an earlier proof? It's not that I don't trust you, it's just that they look like a fair bit of work has already gone into them beyond the normal rules for a proof pic.
Skin is half done, helmets and pants are just base coated. Everything else is bare primer.
Don't have an earlier picture. I can start something else no prb.
If you don't mind, that would be better. The rules say primed and/or one colour applied, those are just a little too far along to really fit, I'm afraid. Hope that's ok, and do feel free to show those off in here once they're done!
Debating on entering my Morty as well as he's just built and primed currently, though not sure on if I'll have the time to paint him up to a proper standard this month. I'll take a proof pic tomorrow and just go for it I guess. Don't really have much else that fits the theme.
Wow, multiple Mortarions (Mortarii? Mortariuses? Anyway...) should be impressive!
I've just found out the Shadespire skeleton warband isn't out until November 4th, so that throws a spanner in the works for my sort-of plan. I'll have to come up with something else.
Oh, and I might as well announce this now, I'll point it out again towards the end of the month: this challenge will basically be running an extra day as I'm away all day on the 1st November so won't be able to do the poll until the 2nd, thought I might as well just extend it. For the same reason, November's round will be going up a day early on the 31st October.

Mortys. It's Mortys.
I..I..turned you into a primarch mo*burp*Morty! You're primarch moooooorrrrty!
I will add my morty as well ive started him but im no pro and this is the most difficult model ive ever had to assemble, Im hoping it will be ok? as entry.
Ah dammit only started painting this week but i think ive disqualified myself.
I thought i wasn't going to be able to enter this month due to not having anything which could match the theme, but i was looking through my bits box and found these servo-skulls from my Warhound spares - Huzzah!
Here is my proof pic..
Will be an interesting month with all these Mortys flying around. Good Luck
Airship looks very cool Power Elephant, sorry to here it crash landed, get the mekboys on it.
A very cool and scary model n1ceguypaul, looking forward to it.
My Ork Batman and Robin WIP so far, positions are almost there. trying to get Ork Robin look like hes crunching his fist into his hand and think I'll give Grot Batman a Batarang

Could I enter this model instead of the airship? It's way more appropriate. Maybe I'll do more than one, one painted in the clasical blue/green cthulu colours and one yellow since the clasical colours are a bit boring, although more appropriate for this month.
It is a token from a board game, yes but it's not that old. Only appropriate "model" I have for this month. Actually I do have some rubric marines but somehow I don't feel like painting them.
Submitting a squad of raptors who spent fifteen years assigned to an inquisitor and accompanied a BT crusade. They're SM faithful already, but they've caught uber-uber-religion.
I had difficulty picking a model for this one, I even scoured a mate's unpainted minis to offer to paint one up but found nothing that grabbed me. In the end I kitbashed/converted a flashgit with some orruk and marine bits to make Snikrot, the green ghost of Armageddon. This sneaky git mostly comes out at night, mostly.
gulgog, I love your conversions, this one must be one of my favourites.
actually I started this guy at the weekend but here is my proof pic.
@Midget Gems: Good stuff so far, I was going to suggest making 'Batman' a grot and 'Robin' a larger Ork, that'll definitely help sell them as an Only Fools homage over just being Orks in costume. 'Robin' in the classic 'Come on Del, let's go' pose is just genius.
@Moolet: lovely conversion. Can't wait to see paint!
I managed to get some good progress early on this month, leaves me a few weeks to paint up something for my blood angels before the next challenge.
Paradigm wrote: @Moolet: lovely conversion. Can't wait to see paint!
your wish is my command:
Spoiler:
I'm fairly happy with this entry as he was just some random bits I threw together. However, I imagined a certain palette to him but I felt I didn't achieve what I was trying to, still its good practice.
The base flashgitz body and head already had primer, layer of paint (or two), and primer again on him (he was an ebay purchase) when I primed him grey myself. Though the previous layers seemed thin, I really noticed the lack off definition when trying to do his face. I tried 'freehand' painting some features (such as his upper lip and below his lower lip) to try to add some more definition and I'm pretty happy with the result. I did try a head swap once I had painted most the model but it was welded on and I only resulted in scratching other parts of the paint work. I also tried to experiment a bit with adding some texture to the leathers, more noticeable on the tan leather. I need a bit of practice and I found taking my glasses off actually help with seeing what I was doing (this is a huge step forward for me! =)
Lesson to myself for the future, don't get excited about painting up a new conversion, spend time stripping him first.
Verviedi, that conversion looks awesome - will be great when finished!
Moolet, Snikrot looks incredible - far better than the GW version, and to have it painted up so well in such a short amount of time is really something - great work!!
Oh man, that 's One nice Snikrot conversion. Like it.
I will throw in a pretty scary Shoota Boy
His story: After a few fights he began to get jelous about the shooting skills of the grots fighting aside him.
He wanted to shoot at least as good as these little idiots, so he started to practice his shooting.
First he shot a few grotz with his slugga. After a while he was so good with the slugga, he wanted to get moar DAKKA!
Next he traded in some teef for an old, rusty shoota.
He hat to start from the beginning as he wasn't even able to hit a stompa in front of him.
Then he became better and better until he shot as good with the shoota as he does with the slugga.
Now he needed even moar DAKKA! So he traded some more teef for a shinier ans more acurate shoota.
Now he has 2 Shootas and is One Scary Boy in the Battlefield! If you see his shiny Shoota, you better get out of his Way!
"If i knew you were comin' i'd've baked a cake; baked a cake, baked a cake;
If i knew you were comin' i'd've baked a cake - how'dya doo, how'dya doo how'dya doo?!?"
@Moolet: Top work. I can't really notice the lack of definition caused by the many coats of primer, so the job's a good'un!
@BC: Welcome back!
Still struggling with my entry, I've not got much to paint on hand at the moment and even less of it's suitable for the theme. I also don't want to enter just another Space Marine as it feels like that's all I've done recently... Might still go for some AoS Death stuff unless anyone else has any recommendations (ideally something fairly cheap, money's a bit tight at the moment)
What about reaper bones stuff? They are fairly cheap and they have all sorts of interesting minis.
The quality is a bit low though. The bigger minis are OKish.
I've done some stuff with Bones before, I find the material just a bit too poor to take as a purely painting project. It's fine for DnD pieces or board game type bits but for painting I prefer to stick to plastic/metal.
I'm eyeing up the GW Wight King, he's pretty cheap and a model I've wanted for a long time.

Yea I agree, bones is quite a crappy material. Time is precious and wasting it on a gakky mini is a no no.
Could also get one of the bigger bones minis, like the elephant man I did in August, or one of their dragons--it tends to come out better with them. Could also look at Malifaux--not too dear for a small box, and some decent horror stuff there in standard gray PS plastic.
Okay, I'm officially in now, here's the proof pic for my Poxwalkers:
As usual when I do large units, I'll paint all of them and then pick the 5 best ones to be my contest entry, assuming of course that I get them all done. Gonna be a major switching of gears from all the power armor I've been painting recently.
Got myself some rest days, it's awesome to get gak done! The work continues:
The day I saw this model, I knew, I just KNEW I had to do something with that head to make it look like the image. It was hell to carve up the head, but the results are worth it. Obviously you can't see, but the light flickers like a candle. It's extra lovely.
This is my first "LED-in-a-miniature" project, so I'm really happy with my progress
Wight Lord came in today, so here's the result of a couple of hours' work. Needs more done to the cape and a few other areas so he's still WIP, but I'm really quite pleased with the textures I've managed to work up on the armour.
Not sure whether to make him a little ghostly with glowy eyes and take the cape a bit more ethereal, or go the opposite and have him look like a chap who's been really, really neglected for a really, really long time...

I just love it when “a couple hours WIP” is better then what I do in a month.
Nice work. I’d go for the ghostly etherial glow. If he was just a basic wight, I might go with the neglect. But he’s a Wight Lord, and should ooze menace and have palpable waves of evil rolling off him. Give him the touch of the unnatural that only eldritch radiance can bring.
Good point Nev, eventually he'll have a few dusty Skeletons hanging around him (come on Shadespire Skellies, just release! It's been over 6 months since they first showed them! ) to something to set him apart from them as something a little more magical.
And just to show I’m still in this for more then the jokes, a WIP:
Not a fan of the sculpt on the hoses, Lots of filler in spots they couldn’t do undercuts. Like hooves and legs just stretched wide to meet up with the fabric. Probably won’t be that noticeable on the table, but when building and painting it really irks me as a modeler. Once the wash on the horse is a little more set, I’ll attempt a little weathering. We’ll see how that ends up.
The wraith is just done with his first wash. Turquoise glaze over black and a very light blue/grey. I need to go back and darken up the robes a bit, to boost the contrast with the flames. I like the slight tinge of color they got from the glaze though, don’t want to disrupt that too much. I think for the others in the squad I might put a black wash or ink down before the turquoise. Still need to do the scythe blade. Instead of the general slathering I gave him already, I think he also needs a targeted wash in some of the low points just to help define and deepen them.
@EmberlordofFire8: Looks like we've got ourselves a little Pox-off going!
As for my Poxwalkers, here's where they are at right now:
The skin is basically done other than possibly a few touchups. Next up will be blocking in the other colors so they don't look quite so messy.
That Wight King is looking really good, Para. I love the gritty, textured style.
Been procrastinating about what to paint this month, I wish it was Fright Night every month!
I can't wait to see everyone finish all of the cool models that are up.
Anyhow, I waited months for this Grymkin model to come out, so I'm excited to give her a coat of paint...
Glowing ethereally enough yet? Ta again for Nev for convincing me to go for the glow, it adds some much-needed colours and contrast to the palette.
Still technically WIP, so feel free to critique. I really want to push myself and hopefully reach the upper end of the scoreboard this month, so in the interests of improving myself, I invite you to rip my paintwork to shreds!
I'm going to have to change my entry this month - have a group of Plague Marines that need painting up urgently, I'll update my original post with a new proof!
A Deep Cuts Miniatures displacer beast--scary wee critter.
And almost done, thinking it needs one more matte coat (and also I'm moving this month and am not sure I'll finish or he'll survive it, so hey, backup pics):
Nice job, Vejut. The purple highlight looks perfect!
I considered this exact mini myself for this month - the deep cut are pretty good for the price! Well done and I hope he doesn't get displaced on the move.
...sorry....won't happen again...
Loving those pumpkin grots, too, biggie!
Here's the base I'm working on for my Twilight Sister. I have tried to sculpt a face on the tree, will have to wait and see if it turns out the way I hope.
I've spent far too long staring at the pics and trying to work out what else I could do, to the point where I figure I needed to just call it done and move on. I'm pretty pleased with the result, but you know how it is when you look at something long enough, you start agonising over the tiniest details and flaws and more often than not, I end up making things worse after a certain point trying to 'fix' them. I think this is one of my stronger entries in recent months, so hopefully he performs well come the end of the month!
Hmm, it looks fine on my monitor. It's copied at full resolution, so zooming won't help, but at its regular resolution it doesn't appear blurry to me. Is anyone else seeing blur? I edit my pics at 50% brightness, so if your screen is on a darker setting that might cause problems.
Ooh, I only just discovered that we’ve got a painting challenge again. Right, I’m working on a big gribbly Kharybdis, hopefully it’ll be finished in time...
Yay BC Welcome back, its great to see/hear from you. Hope you are well.
A really good idea TheDraconicLord, should be a very cool entry.
A very good posse on your entry Kustomer D and the base is also very good.
Para, I like the glow over the dirtty/ragged look on this model, are you planning to do anything with the eyes glow wise, just a thought?
Grot pumpkin heads are great for your first time with GS, biggie_reg, made me laugh.
Apologies I've not been on much for the last week and 1/2, its all gone a bit busy at the moment and next week looks awful as well. No idea how its got to the 18th already and I've only got a few of the base colours on >_<
I did manage to update the league table at the weekend if anyone is interested, (Julys colours went AWOL on the table but will fix that in the update next month).
Here's my proof pic. Hopefully this will be the last month of my Dark Eldar odyssey, but while that is ongoing, I'm going to paint a squad of the most halloween of the Drukhari, Mandrakes.
This months entry was a fun idea and I knew it was coming, so I'm doing a theme of classic monsters and scary dudes! I found a "King Kong" , "Blob", "Lizardman", "Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Jason", and Be'lakor to top it off! I'm starting to paint them and I'm super excited, Be'lakor is something I've been wanting to do for a while and he is super scary on the table! I will do a group shot at the end when they are done!
PROOF
Pretty much done, just have to paint the wings, gloss it and add some sand to the base. Didn't put nearly as much effort into this one as I did last month, not feeling particulary inspired both by the theme and the "model" itself. Still, backing out wouldn't be right.
Llamahead talked me into entering my Dark-mechanicus-demon-spagetti-tentacle-magos. Eleven days to paint that beast is probably insane, but who knows... Anyway, here is my proof (and in case that count, building started on october the 5th.)
Boys and girls of every age
Wouldn't you like to see something strange?
Come with us and you will see
This, our town of Halloween
This is Halloween, this is Halloween!
Pumpkins scream in the dead of night!
This is Halloween, everybody make a scene
Trick or treat till the neighbors gonna die of fright!
It's our town, everybody scream
In this town of Halloween!
Yes. I'm a big fan of the movie and song ever since I saw it, oh so many years ago.
I'm envious of the pumpkin head above! Wish my grots would come out better, but I still like them. I'm working on my sculpting, but they turned out alright. Much more painting to be done, can't wait to finish them!
I just thought I'd post a WIP shot of my Poxwalkers as they currently stand:
As I said before, I'll finish all of them and pick the five best as my entry. I'm running out of month, so I'd better pick up the pace! Everyone else's entries are coming along nicely, should be a nice freaky selection of creepy models!
Ugh, hit a wall with Morty, but he’s definitely getting close just gotta finish some fine details, his wings, and his little cohort of nirglings on his base. Looks like I may indeed finish this month, but probably won’t have enough time to get him properly photographed in the time frame, so though he’ll be finished, expect some pretty crappy pics of my entry this month!
Pumpkin grots looking great, reg!
And that led, Draconic, looks freaking cool....I love it. How the heck did you do it?
Agreed, and it's extra cool because you sculpted the heads That's a lot of work!
About the LED:
Spoiler:
- Most of Carver's body is hollow, that helped. I made a hole on his neck to pass the wires through.
- Hollowed Carver's head enough to fit a small LED and cut my way through his eyes and mouth so it was possible to actually see the light.
- Each wire of the circuit goes through one leg. I managed to hollow it some more, but there was no way it wouldn't lead to gaps. After he was glued I had to fill the gigantic gaps with GS.
- Glued the battery slot thingy under the base, around the center where the wires end up. The model is too tiny for a switch, so I turn it off/on by removing or inserting the battery.
And because I'm a complete noob when it comes to wiring and electronics, I solved that problem by throwing money I ordered the LED and the initial circuit from here: https://www.smallscalelights.co.uk/ I had to butcher it because the wires were far too long to fit inside Carver, but it was already a huge help.
And as a reminder, this month's round will be running until the 2nd November as I'm away all day on the 1st, so you do all have an extra day should you need it. November's round will go up on the 31st October so as not to delay anyone's plans for that.
ok, sod it, I'm in - I really should just keep chugging away with the army I'm currently working on...but it's starting to grind on me a bit, and I need a bit of a creativity break...
picked up this Creature Caster "Treewalker" in a bit of a sorry state off ebay a little while ago on a whim...I've just got done fixing her up, now it's time to get some paint on her - in keeping with the scary theme, I'll be going with a "glowy burning charcoal tree" look, rather than a typical "normal, living tree" look...an angry giant burning tree-lady sounds pretty frightening to me!
proof:
Spoiler:
Automatically Appended Next Post: well, that was a fun ~5 and a half hours
done!
I'm worried that this might be the first month since I started entering these that I'm not going to finish. I've picked up a really nasty virus and as a result I'm not able to paint at all. So unless there's some major improvement in the next day or two, I'm probably stuffed. Sorry everyone. :(
Oh well never mind gives the rest of us a chance now. When ur up and about though im in need of a game of sigmar. New nighthaunt army wants to stick it (haha) to those pesky sylvaneth of yours
To everyone else: PAINT NOW! HE'S OUT, YOU CAN WIN THIS MONTH!
Haha cheers Elbows!
I am feeling better at the moment, and I'm finishing up one of the Mandrakes tonight, so I will have something to enter, even if it's not the full squad. Don't worry though, it's not going to win any awards. They're amazing miniatures (and considering they're finecast, I've been very lucky with the quality of the sculpts) but they're quite hard to paint. Lots of fiddly runes.
Done. I almost changed the caption to “Fright Knight” but thought I’d just keep with the official tittle.
Painting these guys was a mixed bag. I pushed some techniques I normally skimp on, such as edge highlighting the metallics and weathering the horse’s robes. Had fun doing that, and in general painting the wraiths. But the sculpts of the horses (and the wraiths in a few spots) were chock full of details that kinda blended into other details due to the lack of undercuts in the plastic. Most of them you will never see from the table-top view, but having a hoof smeared across into the robe irked the modeler in me. Keeps the part count down and assembly easier I guess.
Looks like I won’t be finishing or photoing Morty to the standard I’d like to have him at for this but I will still post pictures of him before the deadline. Looks like tomorrow is crunch time to get as much more as I can done!
Well, I've gotten my entry as done as I'm going to get it. I selected the five best of my Poxwalkers to use as my entry, so here they are:
I do consider these models finished as they are at least tabletop standard, but they didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. Whenever I do my other set of 10 from Dark Imperium, I think I want to make the skin lighter. Since I'm starting from black primer (never had much success with white primer, brush or spray), I really need to go with Rakarth Flesh and then Pallid Wych Flesh instead of just the Rakarth. Still, I think these are okay, and they certainly fit the theme for the month (because zombies!). Looking forward to the voting; there are some pretty nice entries here so far!
Oh, and I'll post pics featuring the models that didn't make it into my final entry, as well as a group shot of all 10, in my blog shortly.
Verviedi wrote: I may even be able to finish my entry. My order of Blood For The Blood God got delayed, anyone know how to homebrew some?
not sure how well it'd really work, but do you have any 'ardcoat/other brush-on gloss varnish?...mix a little red in to it, or brush some over some red, depending on what you're going for?
Lord_Ghazghkull wrote: not sure ill be able to finish my model :( threw out my back 2 weeks ago and nearly done with the mini ... but its base isnt even close...
That bites man, my hubby has a lot of back issues - they really suck!
Fraid I'm gonna have to bow out, been sick as a dog just don't have the energy to finish these atm sadly
Verviedi wrote: I may even be able to finish my entry. My order of Blood For The Blood God got delayed, anyone know how to homebrew some?
See if you can get Tamiya clear red. It is pretty much the same thing. Either that or you can painstakingly paint on the blood, shade appropriately and gloss varnish.
Finished! My laptop screen died on me, so I didn't get to resize and edit them the way I would have like, but I think the photos turned out okay. I'm happy with the way the mini turned out though, and that's the important part for me. Also, he's the first mini I've painted with the GW-approved minimum number of skulls (8!).
Ork Freebooter "The Headhunter" (final pics):
gakky photos though, i don't have a camera that can do the close-up-ness i want. Spent ages getting a heat effect on the flamer tips and, again, wasn't able to capture it with my camera.
These are the smallest models i ever painted and it was hard - i tried to give lenses my best, but now you all get to see why your lenses impressed me last month..
I loved this mini when I first saw it, so it was a perfect opportunity to paint her this month. I've become overly used to GW sculpts, so this one was pretty tricky with all the tiny details.
I've been trying to improve my bases as well, so put in extra work on this one. The tree face, mushies, roots and apple are all greenstuff and the spider is one of the 'Nolzur's Marvellous Unpainted Minis' range, which are cheap but actually pretty good. I'm not hugely happy with the photos, though they're not the worst ones I've taken either.
KernelTerror that custom model looks brilliant and you got the painting done very quick, it looks great
lindsay40k great suggestion on the name keep going with the giant sack thing
Great work with the lights TheDraconicLord, really imaginative.
Very cool Witch Chris56, I love all the little details
and quite a collection of monster you have there metal_man, good job
Well October has been a pretty terrible month for me hobbywise. I'll add myself to the list of ill people in this thread, I seem to have got about 3 or 4 colds in a row now, they just wont go away. On top of that been rather busy with work and life in general.
I have just about finished but not to the standard I would like and wanted to play a bit more with Photoshopping them into old school batman fight scenes or the only fools and horse scene.
They are still quite fun as they are Its Batork and Robin, da yoof wonda.
Dun-nuh dun-nuh dun-nuh dun-nuh BATORK!
You hear that? That’s the ghost signal. Binary in the air. Nobody knows what it means, only that it started after the war...

Analysis of Unionist rebel found in refuse dumping zone Septimine. Limbs missing, torso torn in half, 30-centimeter claw marks, signs of mauling, face cut in half, skull shattered, and heart absent. Half subject’s weapon was found thirty feet from the corpse, embedded in the ground and torn in half. Damage consistent with a large predator attack.
Was the weapon fired?
Weapon diagnostics report full discharge of forty lasrounds on full-auto.
Omnissiah’s name... there is no fauna left on the planet that can take that much damage and live. Something’s wrong, here.

Another challenge done. I'm celebrating 1 year anniversary Dakka painting challenge . It's been a helluva ride. I can't say it's coincidence but
I did a Khorne bloodreaver 12 months ago which I liked but these guys were fething annoying. Way too busy with all those trims, does not
favour my style of painting.
I painted them in similar fashion as the slaughterpriest. Used a different recipe for the metals but same technique "matt metals" I don't know
how to call it...
Well with life and work bumping up my hours I definitely didn’t have as much time to spend on Morty as I’d have liked. I know he isn’t really finished necessarily and definitely not to the standard I like but I will post what I have. Need to do the nurglings still and add some final details to the scythe but Morty is mostly finished and at the very least tabletop worthy!
Decided to stick with my green and copper theme for the army and wanted to take the wings in a different direction so I went for big brown leathery wings! Hope you enjoy! This guys was a doozy to paint. Every time I felt like I made progress...more details appeared.
Sadly, I managed to bungle another one--The pics earlier in the thread of my displacer beast are gonna have to serve as final pics. The additional coat of matte varnish somehow got some white flecks in it, and they're well buried in varnish now. Trying one more coat in case its frosting, but not really expecting much.
Everyone's entries are amazing. Even If the paintjob isn't top of the line, the model itself looks amazing with lots of imagination. This month has been great for variety.
So before i get into posting my finished pictures I decided to add a little extra on top of the verminlord and my mourngul. He is a necron c'tan that I will be using as a cairn wraith for my nighthaunt army. He was a quick and easy addition so thought I'd add him in.
Now onto the hopefully good stuff. The vermin lord was for my armies on parade board which won best scenic board at my local GW store.
The mourngul and cairn wraith are for my nighthaunt army.
Gonna have to bow out, the models are almost done but unless I stay up all night until 3am they won't be done. I'm fast realising I won't be able to paint much in my A-Level year. It'll be one model entries from now on.
Finished Mortarion just in time! He's been very fun to paint and it's been great to have a deadline! No airbrush apart from armour basecoat, everything else is handbrushed ^.^ Spilt ALL the flock over my lap doing the base though... -.-
Didn't have enough time to finish the base to satisfaction... but here it is! Gunning for the full year this time! Can't crap out now! A few other views under the spoiler tag. Couldn't get any closeups with my rubbish phone camera, but I'm reasonably happy with how the face turned out.
