After taking some comparison pics, I finally painted some more minis.

I worked on some more Rebels. Even bigger than Rex! The trooper left is the Legion Duros trooper with a head swap and some extra shoulder pads, the right trooper received a heroic scale Statuesque female head.
Works fine IMO since the coat is so formless it could also be a female under it.

And my favourte mini mix so far:

Chopper, Ashoka, Rex and Hera!

More pics and more comparison pics are on my site: http://www.adpublishing.de/html/legion.html

Good job! Those statuesque heads really give character, and the Rebs are perfect for conversions to female.

Great work as always. I hate to say it though, but the female head swap looks a bit funny; it looks to me like her legs are a bit too short. Of course humans come in all shapes and sizes, and it probably won't be noticeable at all on the tabletop.

Lovely stuff chief - I think that model is in fact meant to be one of the two female members of the squad, she's just wearing as you say a big formless jacket-thing.

Looks like nonstandard bases though, the Organised Play Fun Police will be after you if you keep that up - Official FFG Plinthbases only!

Agis' Star Wars minis @ 2018/04/01 22:41:57

Post by: AAN

Thanks folks.

As far as the bases are concerned, yes these are 25mm bases, I really dislike the cones from FFG! And since I did not plan to play in any tournaments I couldn’t care less ...

And the WIP conversions for the next Rebel squad.

Left: Head swap with Statuesque minis, bottle, helmet from Victoria minis.
Leader: bendy WotC head, Grenades and arms from GW IG
Right: extra shoulder pads from Anvil Industries.

The Empire Storm Trooper are nice overall minis, IMO a bit tall (even taller than the Rebels).
As with my Rebels I did not use the cone-like FFG bases but flatter 25mm plastic bases.

These look fantastic. I see your stormtrooper at the top of the page has the rims around his eyes painted white. Was it a conscious decision not to do that for your more recent squad? Leaving it black does make their eyes look a bit massive, like pandas.

Legion - Clone Wars
Soon after the arrival of Legion some back market models appeared, first scenery, then head swap conversion parts and finally full models.
I was pleased to see that Mel (see my X-Wing models) is also doing some very good Clone Trooper!

So time to paint some!

From left to right, Phase II CT with DC-15S blaster carbine, ARC Trooper (maybe Rex?) and Phase II CT with DC-15A Blaster Rifle. So models are of good quality (the sculpts are in fact flawless), but some print lines appear and need to be carefully removed wherever possible. They are painted in the colours of Rex’s 501st Legion.

The always welcome comparison picture:

From left to right, FFG Legion Trooper, Phase II CT with DC-15A Blaster Rifle ARC Trooper and FFG Heavy Trooper.

As you can see the Mel CTs are more realistic proportioned, while FFG has the chunky “heroic” scale GW look. Both are nice models by themselves!
I am planning to paint 2 or 3 Clone squads and some corresponding lists for my Victory Decision Future Combat system.

After the big CW annoucement yesterday I am even more hyped to paint some CW minis.

All Clones from Mel, Yoda is an old bendy WotC mini.

Three ARC Trooper of the 501st Legion. One with Z-6 Rotary Blaster Cannon, one DC-15S Blaster and DC-15A Blaster Sniper Rifle.

Mel also started to produce Jedi to lead the clones! Obi Wan Kenobi is the 1st.

A very good mini with also very little printlines!

And the always productive Mel also offers Droids and the infamous General Grievous!

As you can see two of the 4 sabers are missing the brittle Shapeway material simply broke away and the saber itself was too tiny to replace the blade. Anyway I received a full refund and the model still looks cool IMO.

more - B1 and 2 Droids, Count Dooku - on my site: http://www.adpublishing.de/html/legion.html

Two more Clones!

The ARC Trooper are now pretty complete.

Four ARC Trooper of the 501st Legion. One with DC-15S Blaster, DC-15A Blaster Sniper Rifle, Z-6 Rotary Blaster Cannon and one Trooper aims with his RPS-6 Rocket Launcher.

The good thing with all the Legion hype is that the aftermarket is also booming.
Several terrain kits popped up, one of my favourites are the Tatooine buildings in hard foam from Micro Art Studio.

Luke and two Trooper (Imperial Assault) are getting into it in front of the “Desert Habitat” - right out of Ep. IV!

I was amazed to see some excellent Shoretroopers on Shapeways. Being a big Rogue One fan (IMO the best of the 4 new movies) I was very curious and ordered some.
The minis fit perfectly to Legion minis from FFG! Even better than Mels!

Coastal defender stormtroopers, more commonly known as shoretroopers, were a specialized variant of the Galactic Empire's stormtroopers trained and equipped for combat in tropical environments. Stationed at the top secret Imperial security complex on the tropical planet Scarif, shoretroopers patrolled the beaches and bunkers of the facility.
Shoretroopers operated effectively as sergeants which allowed them to command small squads of regular stormtroopers. One of the notable aspects of coastal defender stormtroopers was that the position they serve in was rotational (temporary); subject to rank (skills and qualification) and operational demands (open positions due to mobilization or transfers). On a galactic scale, shoretroopers as a whole were scarce, as the conditions for necessitating their employment were less frequent, as few stations or garrisons were located on coastal/tropical planets.
Shoretroopers wielded both the E-11 blaster rifle and the upgraded E-22 blaster rifle while stationed on Scarif. They also carried a thermal imploder.

"I'm not a terrorist. I'm a patriot. And resistance is not terrorism." ―Saw Gerrera

Saw Gerrera was a human male Onderonian resistance fighter who, as a leading member of the Onderon rebels, fought against the Confederacy of Independent Systems on Onderon during the Clone Wars. He and his sister, Steela Gerrera, were instrumental in the rebel liberation of their homeworld during the Onderonian Civil War. He later became a key member in the fight against the Galactic Empire and the formation of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. His tactics against the Empire led him to be seen as an extremist, one whose notoriety was recognized by the Empire and, many years later, the New Republic. - from SW Wikia

Not only is Saw Gerrera one of my favourite R1 characters, the Shapeways mini by Skull Forge is just breathtaking good.
A true masterpiece that shows what can be accomplished today. Below is a group shot with other R1 chars.

Another mini from SOLO - the Mimbanese Resistance.
The Mimbanese were one of several sentient species native to the planet Mimban. The Mimbanese had the unsettling ability to disappear in the mud and murk of their homeworld.
During the Clone Wars, the Mimbanese allied themselves with the Grand Army of the Galactic Republic. Under the leadership of tribal leader Iasento, the Mimbanese organized a Liberation Army. Junior Representative Jar Jar Binks was sent to help the 224th and 501st interface with the Mimbanese. With aid from the Mud Jumpers of the Grand Army's 224th division, the Mimbanese fought the Confederacy of Independent Systems. They were successful in repelling the Separatists from Mimban.
Following the Republic's transformation into the Galactic Empire, the Mimbanese fought the 224th's Swamp troopers.

The above mini is Iasento, he was a male Mimbanese who served as a member of the Mimbanese Liberation Army during the reign of the Galactic Empire. Prior to the Clone Wars, Iasento was the leader of a Mimbanese tribe in the Nanth flatlands. When Mimban came to the attention of the Separatists during the war, the Galactic Republic's 224th Division, the Mud Jumpers, armed and trained Iasento and his men.

Another incredible good mini from Skull Forge Studios! Printed by SFS directly, way better than Shapeways!!!

The alternate Vader mini from Skullforge - "King of Ashes".
IMO a a better miniature that the FFG one.
The sculpt represent a younger Vader, maybe some months after Ep. III, not fully suited to his new cyborg legs and arms and still as overconfident as Anakin.

Well done. It carries a lot of weight. If I remember right, is this the version where he had his leg damaged in a fight with a jedi so he replaced it with a droid's?

Five Phase I trooper right out of the Clone Wars box.
Unfortunately the miniatures are NOT as good as the B1 droids, softer plastic, less details, grotesquely oversized weapons, bulky heads, feet and hands and horrible very hard to remove mold lines.
:( :( :(
A real shame and missed opportunity IMO. They look somehow good anyway but could be so much better...

Some comparison pictures are below.

From left to right: Mels Phase II, FFG Phase I, Mels Phase II, FFG Phase I. Mels are way more realistic. But in the end it boils down to personal taste!

Jordans Obi, FFG Phase I and Mels Obi. Jordans mini work together with FFG, Mels not.

Very easy.
I used the new GW contrast paints.
For Black they are areal blessing. I primed it in Grey Seer, then Templar Black.
After that only some highlights and that's it. Then some matt and glossy varnish.

I was really amazed how simple it was.

The Mandalorian is a live-action Star Wars television series developed by Lucasfilm. The series takes place about five years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.

IMO the best live action production after Rogue One since the original Trilogy. Soon some very decent sculpts were available, I chose Jordan’s and was - as always - not disappointed.

“The cavalry has arrived!” - Clone Force 99, the bad batch is in my hands. I received the incredible good minis from Skull forge and started ASAP painting. Hunter and Wrecker are finished.

Clone Force 99, informally known as the Bad Batch, was a clone commando squad led by Captain Rex during the Clone Wars. The squad was formed from four Clone Troopers who were born with "desirable" genetic mutations that set them apart physically and mentally from their standard counterparts. These mutations were enhanced to make them into superior soldiers on the battlefield.
The commando unit was named after 99, a malformed maintenance clone in honor for his bravery and sacrifice in the defense of Kamino from a Separatist invasion.
The motley crew that makes up Clone Force 99 boasts an astounding 100 percent success rate and skills unseen in any other clone troopers. Adept at working together, Hunter, Wrecker, Tech, and Crosshair use their unique talents and specialized physiology to execute extraordinary solutions on the battlefield.

I liked CF 99 immediately, so I had to get the excellent after market minis. I even created some Zombicide Invader cards (they are in 150 dpi, so just save and print them if you like) to use them against some aliens from a Confederacy research station... Use the starting eqipment from the Zombicide - Dark Side box!

The full squad!

Tech and Crosshair

Tech
He may not look like a typical clone, but Tech is a valuable soldier in the Republic army. The result of genetic manipulation like the rest of his special unit, Clone Force 99 (or the Bad Batch), Tech's aptitude for science and technology are unmatched by man or machine.

Crosshair
When you have to hit a precise target from 10 klicks, Crosshair's your man.
Cold, quick, and calculating, Crosshair is the kind of no-nonsense warrior who detests working with "regs," or normal clones, and isn't afraid to mouth off about it.
A member of the special unit Clone Force 99, also called the Bad Batch, Crosshair is gifted with a sniper blaster.

I am very happy with the squad, I expect some nice Zombicide Invader games with them!

Clone Captain Rex
Clone Captain Rex viewed military service as an honor, and his loyalty to the Republic and his Jedi Generals was absolute. Rex honed the use of twin blaster pistols into an art form, leading his fellow clones to victory on countless battlefields across the galaxy.

I really like the Rex expansion, 3 head options and his typical 2 blaster pistol pose. As with CF-99 I could not resist and created a Zombicide Invader card for him.

And a group shot with CF-99 and his friend and Jedi Leader Ashoka Tano. Ashoka is from Imperial Assault. The mini is slightly smaller in scale but fits IMO OK, since she is supposed to be a bit shorter than the clones.

Count Dooku
"The best of all would be the strongest student, yes? Wisest? Most learned in the ways of the Force? Best of all, Dooku would be! Our greatest student! Our greatest failure."
―Yoda
A nice miniature, true to the Legion style of bigger than realistic feet, hands and head. The mini is even bigger than the B2 droids, but according to starwars.fandom.com this should be OK, since the good Count (Christopher Lee) was 1,93m.

"With these new battle droids we built for you, you'll have the finest army in the galaxy."
―Foreman Wat Tambor, to Count Dooku

Incredible good minis again, very true to Episode 2 and 3. Again super crisp plastic and an absolute joy to build and paint. Since I always liked the retro art-deco look of the B2 I painted not only one but two squads of these beauties!

While clone troopers were best deployed in large numbers, articulated battlefield armor such as this Republic scout walker transformed a single clone trooper into a formidable anti-infantry unit. Designed primarily as a reconnaissance vehicle, this two-legged open-cockpit walker is nonetheless swift and heavily armed, letting a clone trooper cut through battle droids easily. It was employed in such campaigns as the Battle of Kashyyyk. It was the precursor to the All Terrain Scout Transport seen during the Galactic Civil War.
FFG already announced their model, but I wanted mine now. Since I had a couple of walkers from the Legion core box and I do not like them for Rebels the choice was simple, get a Clone Rider from Shapeways and all is fine. I went for one of the great Mel designs, but as always the Shapeways printing material was not as good as any mini from FFG. Otherwise it fitted perfectly, only the brittle blaster broke off during painting, I replaced it with a FFG arm.

Those droids look good, but that Dooku looks fantastic! The shading on his robes looks so good!

The AT-RT looks pretty good, but there's something about the way the dust is riding up the feet that doesn't quite look right to me. I can't quite put my finger on what it is. Perhaps part of the problem is that you've got it on the AT-RT but not on all the other clone troopers on the same bases in the same shot? Not sure.

Deliberately - only the AT-RT is stirring up enough dust!

212th Attack Battalion Clone Paratrooper

A very simple conversion, I used the body with the fitting right shoulder pad of the FFG Phase I Clone Troopers Upgrade Expansion and a Skull Forge Evictor head - done!

"Clone paratroopers were specialized clone troopers trained for airborne operations in the Grand Army of the Republic. In the waning days of the Clone Wars, the paratroopers of the 212th Attack Battalion served as front line assault units in the Battle of Utapau. Following a failed attempt to execute Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi as a result of Order 66, Clone Commander CC-2224 "Cody" ordered a group of paratroopers to search for the missing body of their former general. The troopers failed as Kenobi survived and escaped from the planet."

Two more Phase II Clones without any modification. The Phase II hard plastic minis are really good, I am very happy, great quality.

And scenic pic together with Obi-Wan (Mels minis, slightly smaller or more realistic).

CC-2224, nicknamed "Cody," was a clone trooper officer who served as the Clone Marshal Commander of the renowned 7th Sky Corps and personally led the sub-unit 212th Attack Battalion during the Clone Wars.
A natural and practical leader, Commander Cody was the second-in-command of Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi, to whom he was particularly loyal.
A capable strategist and an exceptional soldier on the battlefield, his qualities earned him the respect of both his Jedi officer and his fellow clone troopers.

The Cody mini is a print from Dark Fire Designs - stunning mini that fits perfectly to the Legion minis.

I am amazed at how well these third party prints are fitting in with the FFG stuff, as well as with your prodigious output of course! Your consistency and speed on these are exceptional!!

Quick question, do you find the output quality from Shapeways etc. to be variable, or is it broadly consistent?

Agis' Star Wars minis @ 2020/07/08 12:41:53

Shapeways is indeed hit or miss, some models are fine, some are showing too many printlines even at highest resolution.
NOT recommended...

"Then you know to betray the Dark Lord is folly."
"No, Count—to betray one's self is the ultimate defeat."

The Anakin mini is a print from Dark Fire Designs - very nice mini that fits perfectly to the Legion Rex and the Imperial Assault Ashoka!

Clone Para Leader, Trooper and Heavy from Dark Fire Designs.

Biker Advanced Recon Commando (BARC) speeder right out of the CW box. The rider is the louse soft plastic quality. I also did not mount he sidecar (do not like the look).

And the second Droideka is also done!

Dark Fire Designs created some glorious Trooper Zs! I printed them via Perikles (https://perikles.be/), absolut stunning quality and really good service - highly recommended!

So maybe it is time for a Star Wars Invader crossover?

Many people asked me how I painted the Zombie Trooper so fast!

Normally I am not doing any painting guides (since I do NOT have any unique techniques to share), but painting two more and taking some WIP pics wasn’t that bad...

New year, new project! I am planning to do both Rebel and Imperial forces for Hoth.
I already painted a Hoth Snow Trooper. Next was a Rebel Veteran and Luke on Hoth! Luke is a really nice mini, very well researched and flawlessly sculpted (as you can expect from Skullforge).

Luke, Han and Leia in their Hoth outfits. For Han I chose the navy blue jacket. It was the color of the original Kenner figure, the Lucasfilm archive jacket looks more brown, but for me the blue was always cooler looking.
Minis are from Skullforge!

I always liked the look of the brotherhood of the Beatific Countenance from the street scenes of Rogue One's Jedha city.
Consequently I had to get some as soon as Skullforge released them!

I finally finished Chirrut Îmwe from Rogue One. I loved the mini but somehow he ended way too long an my "to paint" section of the table...

Sculpt by Skullforge, print by Shapeways (not really good)

And the Client from the 1st season of the Mandalorian. I really liked Werner Herzogs performance in the 1st season, so I had to get his mini, or?

Sculpt by Skullforge, print by Wargames3D (really good)

Shatterpoint - Star Wars: Shatterpoint, a miniatures skirmish game released in June 2023. It uses similar rules as Marvel Crisis Protocol and also the same mini "scale/ size" and style.
You only need 2x 4 minis to play, which is much to my liking. The 1st mini I painted was Captain Rex a character from the Clone Wars series that I really like!

A comparison with a Legion sized Rex. Head, hands and feet are a bit more realistic sized with the Shatterpoint mini, on the actual table they look very similar, in fact I like the Legion look a bit more...
