So big convention, lots of stuff happening - not a single thread Clearly something must change
So here it is the bit catch all thread for all the gencon news from all games that we find around the net (or if one is lucky enough to be attending can post direct form the con - bring pictures!)
KD makes some outstanding sculpts, never owned any but wouldn't mind too though a good few are not my style but would be impressive to own for their creativity and imagination.
Also added a beast of war link to the opening post as they are doing a liveblog of the day - already one video up doing a short chat to a couple of players playing the new Age of Sigmar Champions game.
One more release that's secret - so that's either something totally new or the formal unveiling of the Monopoly game - but then that isn't "super secret"
There’s one more ultra-secret tabletop game from a mysterious licensed partner still to announce from GenCon. We can’t tell you anything just yet, but keep your eyes peeled here later this evening – this is a reveal you won’t want to miss…

Tabletop game at that.
A tabletop game from a licensed partner? Who’s there they could license with? CMON, FFG, Ninja Division? Palladium?
Can't get to GenCon this time? Feeling blue? We've got just what you need! Use code GENCANT2018 at checkout to get 10% off selected-item purchases over $100 in the store for GenCon weekend only, ends Sunday at midnight EST/9pm PST/Monday 5am UK.

That's what Gencon ninjas are for.
I had a buddy of mine attend a couple years back, and he managed to snag me some early releases/convention only items.

Well, there's Devil Pig's Heroes of Black Reach.
And Slitherine's 40k games.
But I'd totally be down for a GMT 40k game. I wonder what it might be, if it were done. A COIN game where one side plays at Cultists trying to take over a world, and the other side is the local PDF forces?
Super star destroyer for armada by FFG. Was excited then saw element games advertising pre-orders for it, at £166. That thing would need to be 3` long to justify that price.
Heroquest returns in some form perhaps? Nah, wishful thinking...
Either that, or GW is letting Prodos replace the minis for Space Crusade with Space Marines this time. (Am I the only one who likes the figs AND wants to see a Space Marine version like the original?)
Prolly gonna be HQ. Warhammer Community mentioned it in their article, but it could be just me.

I fully expect the "mystery game" to be a "one and done" boxed release for a new Gorkamorka. GW loves their synergy, and with Orks being the next book up, I could see it happening.

If you look at the picture, it is clearly at the very least 24 inches long.

Nice to see they still care about Armada. Now if they give us Resistance/First Order...
wtell, there was a point in time when GW actually had other licenses. They used to make Doctor Who and Judge Dread minis. So, it isn't outside the realm of possibility that they're doing something similar again (though both of those lines are being made by Warlord these days).
You know what I want? More Chainsaw Warrior. Or Doom. I wouldn't be adverse to GW getting the Doom license.
Like i said, nothing wrong with munchkin but I hate the style of the artwork. I know it's their established style but it just reeks of laziness every time i see it.
When GW announces something with just a few hours notice, it is probably not going to be a big deal. They are saving the good stuff for Warhammerfest and their seminar at Nova.

That super star Destroyer (is that Executor, from Empire & Jedi?) looks great! How much bigger would a Dreadnought from 'The Last Jedi' be? I'd imagine they'll try to do one of those if they can.
Muntchkin 40k is kind of a let down for the 'big surprise' reveal. But to be fair, I can't think of what third party GW property tabletop game would have impressed me?
Thanks to all who've gotten pictures. Hope you have a great time!
Already have Gretchinz. It's great! The box securely holds the little go-karts, and you can buy 2 boxes and assemble the go-karts in color combinations to allow 8 players. I really like it and so did my group.
IIRC it's a light card game where you try to get to level 10 by defeating monsters which earns you levels and loot (which boost your effective level in combat). You have your character and equipment in front of you and a hidden hand of cards that you can boost your combat with. When you fight a monster, they typically have a level and you simply need to beat that total with your character + any relevant temporary boosts you play (then discard) from your hand. Your fellow players can play their own cards to buff the enemy as well if you're close to winning (or just to mess with you even if you're not). Most cards are humorous both in the description, art, and effects either on you or the monster they're played on.
I hope it will be and I'm looking forward to the humor most personally. I doubt I'll play it much. The "propainted" card above could also be used as a curse given the rep the phrase has on ebay auctions.

Going by the in-universe sizes of those ships, the Last Jedi Dreadnought model should be a bit more than a third of the size of the Executor class. (7.7km compared to 19km, to be more exact)
I kind of like the idea of 40k Munchkin, should be fun.
skullking wrote:That super star Destroyer (is that Executor, from Empire & Jedi?) looks great! How much bigger would a Dreadnought from 'The Last Jedi' be? I'd imagine they'll try to do one of those if they can.
The only ship that might be bigger is Snoaks Capital ship; otherwise yeah the dreadnought is smaller. Also note the dreadnought is (if I recall right) no a one-off ship but a battle-line ship so they've got more than one. And yeah I'd love to see those big Imperial ships from the new film appear in models!
40k Munchkin, how dull. A far cry from the games that we saw FFG produce with the GW license, Chaos in the Old World, Forbidden Stars, Conquest.
Munchkin is at its core a very simple and bland game that can have any skin painted onto it without it having any impact upon the actual game play aside from cosmetic appearances, that is the sign of a bad game. For proof look at how many reasons of Risk, and Monopoly we see flood the market. All very bad games, hopefully GW license their IP to a company who can bring out a good product soon enough.
Going Munchkin is definitely a mistake. That's the last thing you do when your brand is over to milk it one last time, not when it's at its strongest. The gak art, gak rules and fourth wall breaking flippant attitude to the setting will just devalue 40k.
BrookM wrote: That said, perhaps a better gateway game than ruddy Monopoly.
The only thing Monopoly is the gateway for is having fewer friends!
Munchkin is also surprisingly good at that from own experiences..!
Pfft no more or less so than playing a 5+ person game of warhammer on half a table with a few hundred points each. The fast formation of alliances and the fast breaking of them; the mini battles; the grudge match and then the final end slog as two finally get left half dead to battle each other.
Munchkin is lots of fun and its one of those games that can often never end. I've fond memories of a session lasting ages and just going on and on with people dropping in and out and swapping over control of their character as they went to play other games
Adepticus Titanicus is getting a big reveal with all the box stuff there; though its just for show.
Otherwise I think GW is letting the card and board games have the lime light right now. Which makes sense as GW has its own big Eurofest event coming up to focus on their own products. Though we might hear tid-bits of info if any manage to corner a FW worker and interrogate them

Well there were more than one of these ssd's
Outside of the films perhaps, in the films themselves the Super Star Destroyer is basically shown as the single capital ship of the fleet; the biggest and most powerful and also I believe it was basically Lord Vaders ship.
Overread wrote: Outside of the films perhaps, in the films themselves the Super Star Destroyer is basically shown as the single capital ship of the fleet; the biggest and most powerful and also I believe it was basically Lord Vaders ship.
Luke: Vader's on that ship.
Han Solo: Now don't get jittery, Luke. There are a lot of command ships.
Even a regular Star Destroyer is still a command ship capable of major operations on its own. Plus in Return of the Jedi there is at least one or two scenes where its reinforced that the Empire has brought the bulk of their fleet to the battle (or at the very least the bulk of their most mobile fleet that can be spared)
H.B.M.C. wrote: Why all this talk of Executors and silly Sequel Trilogy ships?

Special rule= Once this ships shields are gone a base of a-wings can move into base and destroy this ship.
Nah. The hard counter will be that if you bring in a ship out of hyperspace, either as the objective or with Raddus, if you overlap the Super Star Destroyer it is destroyed.
#why hasn't the hyperspace maneuver been discovered in the last 4,000 years before Last Jedi?

There is no where in the film where they even imply that.
And you think the Empire controls the galaxy with 30 ISDs? Come on...

Going into the recent stuff as well, if the bulk of the Empire's fleet is at Endor how do they have so many ships present at the Battle of Jakku? Which actually is a significant portion of the entire Imperial Remnant at the time, if not the vast majority (and they definitely do have at least one Super Star Destroyer there, as seen in Star Wars Battlefront "1" and "2" from EA, and the wreckage Rey climbs through in Ep 7)
"Around the time of the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, Alliance Intelligence estimated that the Empire had more than a dozen Super Star Destroyers including Darth Vader's flagship Executor, the Annihilator, the Arbitrator, Emperor Palpatine's personal ship Eclipse, and the Ravager. However, the true number remained a subject of debate. "
from some sw wiki I found online.
Edit: tried to play Munchkin a few times, garbage game. YMMV.
Grot Trap (buld the bestez ork trap evur to get the sneaky git!)
ChaosTwizzler (spin the cursed arrow to a colour and body part and see if you and your friends can become the most twisted abomination of hands and legs ever created!
Heck we might even see the Top Trumps game come back!

A 40k siege/ tower defense game could be a lot of fun. "Last stand at Grimdark Pass" or some such silly title, snap fit marine heroes since nobody else can be heroic enough to pull off a game like this, some cardboard tokens for whatever horde- like army they're fighting off.
Done.
You're welcome GW.
[I like Tower Defense games. Castle Panic as well.]
I'd also give Munchkin 40k a try. I've enjoyed playing Munchkin with kids... not so much with older people.
I just with GW would bring back their licensing with FFG. Maybe we could get Warhammer 40,000: The Miniatures Game. Prepainted minis using the flight path system.
And you think the Empire controls the galaxy with 30 ISDs? Come on...
One of the many things I like about the 40k lore is that many nominally Imperial worlds will only get a visit once a generation or every 5-10 years at the most.
Really the scale of a galaxy is so vast that even if you had 100 million ships "doing the rounds" each ship would have about 2500 star systems to manage
Looking at that guy's videos, I'm sure there was absolutely no context to that situation at all...
In what context is it acceptable to assault someone? Waiting eagerly for your no doubt comprehensive and well reasoned argument.
How about NO, not here in this topic.
I get we shouldn't descend into a discussion on justifying these actions or not. But it does feel like a pretty big incident to just ignore, in the context of Gencon.
zerosignal wrote: Edit: tried to play Munchkin a few times, garbage game. YMMV.
Indeed, it's not for everyone...it's more for those with a good group of friends and a sense of humor.
As long as you define a gak squiggle caricature and a name pun as humor, then yes. Hey guys, it's BIPOLAR BEAR OH MY GOSH LOL. This kind of thing kinda peters out in your mid to late teens, however.
So...nothing about Sigmar or 40K Proper, just a bunch of skins for other games?
Wake me when we get some Ork news.

Just curious, but why would anyone want that when they can just go play the real game?

Has there been any talk at GENCON about those figures for the kids from that 40K kid game/ books yet?
All I have is some guy over in the shop spouting off at the hole so far.
And also, an apology for the derailing, it wasn't my intent.
I think another good question would be to ask where I could get some of those larger BattleTech mechs from that floor game. If I see correctly, those guys seem to be about 6 to 8 inches tall... Color me interested!

Sounds like the Heroclix style Battletech figures (Mechwarrior Miniatures). They were to that scale, but all in the Dark Age style.
You might also look for the out of print Exosquad Robotechs- they've got a Rifleman, Longbow, Archer and Warhammer at the 7" scale, although they are toys and not miniatures. Technically there's also an 11" Marauder, but it's very expensive.
The Super Star Destroyer is not to scale though. Someone had to make that comment. I like it. I don't play Xwing since nobody plays but that is a nice mini. Anyone know of cost?
Davor wrote: The Super Star Destroyer is not to scale though. Someone had to make that comment. I like it. I don't play Xwing since nobody plays but that is a nice mini. Anyone know of cost?
It’s for Armada, not X-Wing.
But yes it is still out of scale, as all Armada ships are.
that super star destroyer looks sooooo badass. I might buy it just cuz. don't play and don't want to, but the model is imposing and would look great in a starfield diorama.
I know the sliding scale is a necessary compromise for playability but it really stands out with the SSD next to the regular ISD. In a way its worse than with the oversized Blockade runner(or undersized ISD) because the two Star Destroyers have the same bridge design. That aside its a very cool model.
So wait, did GW ever announce the final board game? They said watch that community page for a final GW game everyone wouldn't want to miss but there's nothing that I can see
The SSD can't be in-scale otherwise it'd nearly be 12 times the length of a regular SSD.

That thought has crossed my mind.
The SSD is my fav SW ship, and this is a wonderful 2-foot long representation of it.
Relic knights should have probably been there they have been saying they got their stuff together for awhile and are fine tunning but doubtful is my mind on that.

Thanks Overread for the link and pick. I thought Dropzone/Dropfleet was dead. Went on their web site and everything was sold out. Wasn't sure if they were going to replace it or not.
Nice to see more is coming. Sadly I couldn't get v2 or Reconquest2. (I think that is the name). Hoping they will reprint them.
My Gencon highlight was playing Godtear with one of the developers, Alex. I got stomped by another demoer, but it was great to get my hands on the game and discuss the design decisions.
Invisible Sun, the new RPG by Monte Cook, was also a blast. I highly recommend it for those who prefer heavy RP and exploration-based gaming.

From what I gather Hawk Wargames hit troubles fullfilling a KS as well as some other things and got merged into TC Combat who now run the management side which has left the HWG developer/creator free on the creative side. I think the process knocked their marketing down a notch for a long while and its yet to fully recover - I really hope they do though as they make some outstandingly detailed models.
(it was kind of surprising that at the same time Spartan Games was having trouble so too was Hawk since both were related in that the Hawk guy was an old SG employee at one time).
