I’m surprised there wasn’t one already
Though the warhammer 40k fan base and hardcore Pokémon fan base doesn’t seem like they’ll be that much overlap I’m also new to this forum,l
So here you can discuss anything related to pokemon the games that overrated app .manga or anime or TTG?
Which app, Go or Quest? Go has been fun, quest I'm sort of on the fence about it's a good time killer basically. I just let every mission complete on auto.
I got my first smartphone about 2 years ago (I know, I lived in the Stone Age) right before a cross-country relocation. My friend convinced me to install Pokemon Go and those first few pokemon, location tagged for my hometown are still in my inventory. They're a small digital reminder of home, sappy as that sounds.
So. What’s your favorite Pokémon?
I've always been a fan of Lapras.
I played Red in middle school when it came out, so I'm basically in the nostalgia target audience for collecting the pokemon I could never catch (Alakazam, etc).
I made one of those silly meme chart things for all my faves.
I suppose Honchkrow is my top favorite. Wizard Gangster Odin with Super Luck + Scope Lens is a lot of fun, and way back in PBR his attack animation was imitate firing two Tommy guns which was just hilarious.

This is where I point out that Gengar is alone as the only Gen 1 Pokemon to never fall from the OU tier of competitive play, a real testament to his awesomeness. His Mega-Evolution is so strong it got banned to Uber XD

Oh I know. He is just bonkers strong. So much Sp.Atk and that Speed! Didnt his speed get nerfed in Sun and Moon? I still havent completed it.

Not true; he dropped to UU in Gen 7 when they robbed him of Levitate.
As for favourite 'mon, it used to be Kabutops, but he's since been demoted in favour of Camerupt. All hail the derpy camel!
New line of question: what's the hardest battles you've had? Mine's Primal Kyogre when I ran a mono-fire playthrough of Alpha Sapphire, followed by Ultra Necrozma vs. my mono-ice team in Ultra Sun.

I never did any monotype runs but now I kind of wish I had.
I still remember the Battle against the Rival in Red and Blue. I was pretty young in Gen 1 and that first run of the Elite 4 was pretty brutal. I needed something like a dozen tries to finally get through it.
I'm running runs with monotypes and bad Pokémon when I feel like replaying stuff (and we're talking Ledian levels of bad, not "bad" like something like non-mega Kangaskhan or Ursaring or stuff).
Gengar is awesome. I play the Gold/Silver remakes a lot, so most of my favourites are from the first 2 gens. Espeon and Alakazam are favourites, as is Houndoom.
Ah hell, I'm going to have to dig my DS out again, arent I?
As a kid, my favourite pokemon was Giratina, because it is the biggest, baddest pokemon around and it has different forms and it looks totally cool and it is super powerful and comes from a different dimension. I loved Pokemon Platinum.
Hardest fight I ever had was probably the rival fight on the way to meet Bill on my first run, trying to get Meet so without using the Master Ball in my first ever run, or Start a in my first run.
Really once you beat a Pokemon game, it just gets easier and easier from there.
I tried using Ledian in Soul Silver. It was astounding how little damage Mach Punch did against even the most basic Normal types.
Hardest fights, hmm...
Ghetsis was unexpected, and his Hydreigon was brutal. I had to hide behind Gigalith's Sturdy ability just waiting for that dragon to run out of attacks.
Cynthia starts off with Spiritomb that just absorbs your moves and finishes with Garchomp who crushes your worn-out team, and in the middle of that you got to deal with Lucario and Milotic.
Stadium could be challenging since it took away potions and the ability to switch your Pokemon after defeating an opponent, combined with the odd team rules. Also, sucky rental Mons if you didn't have that gamepack or didn't have a team trained yet. Also, Mewtwo! You'd think having six Pokemon against just one would be easy....
(also also, this was way back before useful online guides or even the game itself telling you what anything did)
The Gamecube games were a different kind of challenge, where you had to fight bosses while capturing their "Shadow" Pokemon. The final boss' entire team was catch-able, half of which were Legendaries! On top of that there was the whole "Shadow" mechanic, which effectively meant your team would be underleveled or constantly taking super-effective hits --- naturally it was better to keep a mix, but if you were over-eager in purifying your Mons you could get royally screwed.
Gonna do a playthtrough of Red again where I do Cinnabar Gym as third gym. Last time I did I only got past Blaine with Double Team spam and after trying seven times, this time I'm skipping the Rocket Game Corner too. Probably gonna be around 26-27 when I face Blaine.
Starting to wonder when we’ll get Gen IV in Pokemon Go. It’s been nearly a year since the Halloween Event that kicked off Gen III, and I’ve nearly complete my Pokédex.

Not counting Regionals and Legendaries, all I need is a few more Slakoth candy for my Slaking.
Got lucky and got an Absol from the research tasks, and a Spinda the first time it was offered. Will have to try and get another though since apparently the current task gives you one with a different spot pattern, which is a thing I’ve only learned about last night. Man those are rare tasks though.
Meh, Charizard wasn't quite as awesome in his early sprite and artwork. I was originally a Bulbasaur fan for what its worth. I generally flip between Fire or Grass starters tough. Very few water picks.
None of the Gen2 starters endear me. I'm not sure exactly why I never gave Totodile a real look. Played Cyndaquil at the time and Chikorita on a second playthrough, but that's one of my least favorite trios, just ahead of the Gen 5 guys.
I’ve always been partial to water starters myself. Exceptions would be Blaziken I G3 and Seperior in G5. I never got around to the most recent gen but I liked the grass Owl starter a lot too.
The gator I like for his art style. His secret ability being Sheer Force just reminded me of him after all the years. Really fun ability with a life orb and Dragon Dance.
Well, he didn't have any of that stuff when he was actually the starter.
I tend to switch between grass and fire with the exception of Greninja because Greninja. Didn't play Gen 5 though. The new Pokemon didn't really excite me that much.
You're kidding right? Gen 5 at least had some innovation too it and an actual attempt at a story (and actual decent post game). 6 is incredibly poor for the series on the whole and the only thing that salvages 4 is Platinum. Diamond and Pearl were just slogs from start to finish.

I play Pokémon for the mon and to me G5 just wasn’t that strong. There aren’t many Inlike. My tendency to play comp mon though probably colors it cause G5 was a really boring Meta. All weather hyper offense teams for like a solid year almost.

I think that's the primary difference. The core appeal for me has always been battles and the Pokemon itself and Gen 5 is kind of when I hit a wall there. It's definitely interesting in terms of the game proper from what I understand, but I'd run the badge/evil team/champion stuff so many times at this point I wasn't really that excited for an improved version of it with creatures I wasn't interested in. Where I really burned out was the Silver remake, in part because it was all the same again and also because that's just where I finally had had it with the balance of the game and Smogon's attempts to control it.
I did play Gen 6. A combination of fun new Pokemon and mechanics kept my attention, though I didn't get anywhere near as into it as I did in the past. Gen 7 was also fun, but it was about here that I realized I'm kind of over the core RPG and just like catching Pokemon via Go to get my fix.
All the regions (your choice of where to start and what pokemon to start with), story lines about Pokemon and the people sharing the world with them, an actual Pokemon league with prizes and special events to catch legendary mon or one offs like Surfing Pikachu. Add Trainer skills to better diversify the game with things like "Water Specialty" or "Breeder" and stuff like that. Don't even bother with any overarching storyline. The Pokemon storyline is pretty done out at this point. Maybe just go like Eve Online. Let players build their own leagues, their own gyms, with their own rules.
Pokemon Go pretty well accomplishes what I'd like out of an MMO. The games don't really have the teamwork required for the real thing and to some degree, I've realized that I like the more passive aspect of collecting Pokemon.
I still like the battle system, but honestly I don't know if it will ever be my thing again unless it gets broken off into a more tightly controlled experience. Limit the proliferation of certain high pow moves (Earthquake, I'm looking at you) redesign each Pokemon with purpose, streamline raising IVs/EVs etc. As is, the game is pretty oppressively unbalanced, sometimes against entire types and is just horribly at odds with the core appeals and themes of the franchise.
It’s been ages since I’ve kept up with Pokémon (started with gen 1 way back in the old 1990s) and the newest thing with it I’ve done is Pokémon Go (which was fun for a good while). I do remember seeing the whole super evolution thing or whatever and that was pretty cool. Would love to see more roided out old school Pokémon.

I got three shinies. One to leave as Beldum, one for the first Evolution, and one for the Metagross. Also got a high stat non-shiny evolved to Metagross to be an actual strong Steel Attacker. Don’t think I’ve enough candy left to level him clear to forty though.
Had to travel during the event, but managed to snag and evolve a weather boosted one and a solid shiny. Pretty happy overall, though I'm sad I caught another one I would have liked to be able to get Meteor Mash for.
Still haven’t evolved anything from the new gen, but I think the blue bird starter is the only catchable thing I don’t have enough candy for to fully evolve, because I stopped seeing those when the holloween even began.
I'm really mixed on Detective Pikachu. On the one hand the premise baffles the hell out of me. Who the hell decided that the world's first live action Pokemon movie needed to be a police procedural? On the other hand, parts of it actually look legitimately good. the Mr. Mime interrogation is a funny idea. I appreciate the boldness that comes with taking a risk, but I find the particular risk they decided to take a little confusing...
I make a point of driving a particular extra route to/from work so I can hit ~20 pokestops a day, have yet to find a Nincada. Hell, the Caterpe one is rather uncommon as well. Bunch of Spindas though.
I want to hug that Pikachu so bad. It’s Just So Fluffy!
I done goofed. I missed the event from last month in the USA for the newest legendary. Zeraora.
Anyone got one they are willing to trade? I got a bunch of legendaries and everything else from way back all the way through the newest games. This would LITERALLY be the only Pokemon I don't have.
Some shinys too, though not a ton.
Let me know in PM and we can exchange 3ds IDs to trade.
Ok that post was really confusing me until that last line because I only thought of Go.
On a related note, got Deoxys yesterday. Was the first ex raid where I could actually see who else was there. Usually it’s just anonymous cars in a parking lot. This time it was a park where only like two parking spots are in range of the gym, so people were actually required to get out of their cars and approach it. Happened to only be like a block and a half from my house so I actually walked there, and then proceeded to literally sit on the gym as it happens to be a park bench. The people who drove still put in minimum effort and only walked like half way to it. I must be that intimidating I guess.
Only missing Volcanion and Zeraora because Nintendo friggin' insists on the dumb serial code distribution instead of just doing it across wi-fi. Not every country is as cramped for space as Japan...
