Welcome to the 45th round of the Unofficial Painting Challenge! For the unfamiliar, the challenge is a friendly competition open to any Dakka members, whether you're painting your first model or your 1001st! The more rounds you enter, the more points you accrue based on a public vote, and these are tracked in a League Table over the course of the year.
This month, the theme as selected by the community is 'Chain of Command'. Your entry should be based around models that have some manner of military or political rank (or equivalent for the faction/games where these things aren't present), whether that's a freshly promoted squad leader to the master of an entire army.
How To Enter
- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 6 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are certainly acceptable, please keep the image limit in mind when compiling them. For example, a collage of 5 images and one separate image would count as your 6 picture allowance.
So What Do I Win?
- Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month! Following the vote, points will be awarded to every entrant. This year, the Points you receive will be equal to the Percentage of Votes your entry receives in the final Voting thread; if you get 10%, you get 10 points, if you get 6% you get 6 points, so on and so forth.
These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.
How Long Do I Have?
This challenge begins 1st of November and will end at midnight UK time on the 30th of November. After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.
This'll be my last entry for the year I may as well go hard or go home! I'm being stupidly ambitious: leaving on the 13th and having 2 exams between now and then, I shall be attempting to paint this T'au Sept Coldstar Battlesuit Commander! Best of luck for this month everyone.
I don't think I've ever entered this before so I'll give it a go! Givws me a chance to improve my painting while I'm at it. Here's my DE Archon kitbash:
I do have a trophy rack for her, do I need to include all the pieces I'm using on it or just a basic proof?
I'll be picking up my entry on saturday...this challenge calls for a boss, so it seems like a good excuse to pick which of the new ork models I work on first - the new warboss on deffkilla wartrike!
I enjoyed painting something for last month, so I'm actually quite excited to enter this month too! Gives me a goal to paint towards.
I'll be entering an Iron Warriors Chaos Lord - one that just made me buy a whole 'nother can of primer just for his head...
I'll 100% be painting this month. Pics to follow, waitng on the missus recovering from her hangover so I can get proof pics. Any Dawn of War fans on here? Should be an interesting one for you folks.

Hmmmm *looks at Ork biker chain* Runtherd?
haha yeah I immediately thought of that biker arm with the chain when I read that too ...and yeah, that could definitely work on a runtherd, even better if it's a little diorama thing with a few grots

Rybrook wrote:What about the grots getting revenge on the runtherd
Sounds like dueling dioramas. A little before and after pic of the runtherd attempting to enforce the chain of command.
Just need to check if I can afford to do this (really only need a couple more models to bring it up to 5) definitely would love to get back to trying one of these challenges!
So thrilled that this is still going on Para! <3 <3 <3

You don't have to enter 5 models, that's just the upper limit. So if you've got a single mini or a smaller group that you want to enter, go for it!

Oh dang! Cool cool cool! Will get my proof and all that ready. I totally misread the rules! or maybe I just wanted to come up with an excuse to buy more models
I wouldn't worry about people being complete...I only ever do these challenges if they kinda/sorta stumble into what I feel like painting that day or week or month. I bought my dude-fella on eBay a couple days ago and he showed up - just when I saw the thread, so it was just convenient!
oh I'm not worried...impressed, sure!, but not worried...doesn't matter when you finish, only that you finish
I'm just looking forward to painting all these new ork vehicles...and this challenge called for a leader type model, and this one happens to be a warboss, so that'll work!

My thoughts exactly and I'm even further behind you, managed to get it out the box this weekend, Lots of new conversion opportunities for me as well Do you know what Clan you are going for? I'm not 100% yet (but might just default to Evil Suns if I can't work out which kulture I want to go for the main army).
I'm going deathskulls...up until now, my orks have been kinda mixed-clan, though mostly goffs for da boyz, with some badmoons, evil sunz and deathskulls, and tiny bits of snakebites, blood axes and freebootas too (and a LOT of stuff I haven't painted yet )...but for quite a while now, I've found myself more and more wanting to paint some deathskulls...and it turns out I also kinda like the new deathskulls rules too, so that's given me a little extra nudge of motivation
Leader models I wanted to do are already half painted so had a rummage around and found all these. Not sure which I'll paint yet, going to throw some paint on a few and see where that takes me
I wish to enter. It would be a some motivation to try and finish a Guard Command Section and Junior Officer that have been sitting as bits/unpainted for ages.
Proof picture for Dakka Unofficial Painting Comp Nov 2018. Pictured here are 6 models I'll be painting to represent various commanders, both canon and self-made, existing in a Post-Dawn of War series, 8th Edition, M42 continuity. They are entirely headcanon but I tried to keep close to the logical paths as possible.
From Left to right: Scout-Lieutenant Cyrus (Sgt Telion Conversion); Lord Palmarius, Master of Sanctity (Chaplain Cassius conversion); 2nd Lt Thaddeus, 5th Company; 1st Lt Tarkus, 5th Company; Sergeant Avitus the Reformed, 9th Squad 5th Company
I do know that the limit is 5 models, and while I will be painting them as a group, the model on the far left is not to be counted in the competition.
I'll also be uploading WIP images in my blog, link in my sig!
Question about the rules of a DUPC subject in general: would an entry be eligible if it played with the words from that subject? Example, take this month's theme:
This month, the theme as selected by the community is 'Chain of Command'. Your entry should be based around models that have some manner of military or political rank (or equivalent for the faction/games where these things aren't present), whether that's a freshly promoted squad leader to the master of an entire army.
Imagine the Lord of Change is not a lord at all and just a simple, no-rank, cannon fodder kind of guy. I'd spice him up with all kind of chains and (yeah, you probably already guessed it) enter this month with my Lord of Chains. Would that count?
Not that I'm about to do that, I don't even have the model. Just being curious if this kind of creativity with the words of a DUPC subject would be accepted.
In general, if you think it's appropriate, it usually is. I don't think I've ever disallowed an entry on the grounds it doesn't fit the theme, and on the occasions I've queried anything people have always had a convincing reason for it to suit the theme.
That example would fit. If you want to double check, feel free to PM me (or just post your idea here), but generally speaking, if it's in any way relevant to the theme it's suitable.
I'll go ahead and throw my hat in the ring with a couple of different models that show various levels of the Space Wolves' chain of command. Here are the proof pics:
First, the Primaris Battle Leader from the Tooth & Claw box set:
And second, the Great Wolf himself, Logan Grimnar:
These should be fun models to paint, and challenging too!
I used The Fang spray, by Citadel. Supposed to be a good basecoat for Space Wolves, although in the tutorial for painting the Primaris Battle Leader, Duncan uses Mechanicus Standard Gray spray for the undercoat.
Because I entered a leader last month and with this the beginning of the command chain, I enter the end of the chain, this month.... some gretchins for my ork kill team.
So, I’ve only got a week this month when I can paint, so I’m afraid it’s not going to be a diorama, but I now have an Ork Runtherd with the literal chain of command:

Some wip of kharn. I can't see myself voluntarily painting white armour again. Started off fairly well but the left leg has been repainted about 4 or 5 times.
Think I might be a bit behind on the race so far. Hes built (WIP pic below) and hes got a bit of paint on the bike now but not much else. I decided to keep a few parts separate to help with painting.
How did you find building the Trike Zobo? I had a bit of difficultly with the Warboss' left arm and getting it to fit in the hole, had to trim it a little. I'm going to go for Evil Sunz for the colour scheme, just makes sense to me for this model. I do enjoy my looting of things and the Deathskulls philosophies so good choice.
I'm gonna give it a go at this really cool mini from Scibor. A lieutenant for the devine forces.
I wasn't happy with sword he came with so I made a lance. My first time scratch building a weapon, actually anything.
The blade of the lance is from an old library card and the rod is a mix of milliput and green stuff.
I'm a total rookie at sculpting and gotta say is damn hard doing something that looks decent...
Paradigm wrote: Ooh, that's going to be awesome! Got a colour scheme in mind?
I want to try a full NMM gold, never done it before. Still deciding about the wings but I'm pretty sure they aren't gonna be white, something different so that
isn't just a classic archangel. I need to pick up the pace it's almost mid november.

I don't remember having much trouble building it, that said, that part's all a bit of a blur to me now ...I will say though, I am slightly dreading the final assembly once it's all painted, supergluing the boss and the fuel-mixer grot into place, without messing anything up...they seem to fit in place very "just-so", without any real obvious keys...really hope I don't cover half the thing in glue or something!
I seem to have been a touch more reckless than you with my sub-assemblies, I only left off the two orks, the grot, and the back wheels...it's been manageable, but there have been times where I had wished I'd left off the guns and the big flaming skull plates on the front...I also glued the little bit with the gauge on the handlebars, though I had to trim off the little key bit on the part of the handlebar that's joined to the ork's hand.
mine's actually largely done...still needs a bunch of touch-ups, some small details, a bit of weathering, and I still need to figure out what I'm doing for the base, so, about 3/4 done?...I'll hopefully have it done over the next couple of days, but we'll see ...as usual though, I've been totally forgetting to take WiP pics...I usually just paint until I'm really tired, then stop, and go to bed, so getting my phone out and wrangling lighting and whatnot is the last thing on my mind
That trike is a bloody cool model - I look forward to the different interpretations on it!
This pirate seems to be a captain judging by the epaulettes, so I reckon she qualifies for 'Chain of Command'!
This is my first time trying a bust (forgive the pun) so we'll see how she turns out...
Yeah same Zobo, I had tried to place them on there just to see where they should fit, think I got it roughly right in the end but took a bit of wiggling and looking from different angles then adjusting, not what I want to do with glue on it.
I did think the guns and flame bits would make it a pain to paint the bits around them so thanks for confirming that wow your almost done looks like I am the turtle Evil sun in this race, cant wait to see yours finished. I have to remind myself to take photos, hard to manage my time with painting and other things hat need to be done, I thought 'd get a good hour or more on Sunday when the kids were out but after doing all my chores I got a whole 5 mins 50 sec (2 songs on an album) before they came back. oh well.
Cool Chris56, I can imagine that bust ( ) looking great already, a chance for some really good colours on it.
Good luck phillv85, those little nurglings always creep me out.
Been on Dakka for a while, but have never entered any of the comps. Just finished my fist mini in a long while, so thought it would be a great time to give it a try. Here's my first finished chaos kill team member. Veteran and Zealot, now he just needs a suitable name.
WIP
FINISHED
I'll try to take some better pics if i get the chance.
Hey everybody! This will be my final monthly challenge entry for the year. I figured that I'd best go out with a bang Good luck to everybody, and thanks for all the inspirado! Here's to a great 2019
I've decided to finally paint my second bust from Nuts Planet (sorry QueenAnnes, no Kharn for me). Needed a break from painting 28mm (or in the case of Titanicus, 6-8mm?) models and this has been sitting on my shelf for long enough.
Daenarys of the House Targaryen, the Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons.
Spoiler:
Also, my goal for this challenge is to set up a proper photo booth and take good photos of my minis.
Here's my entry. An Imperial Guard Leman Russ Command Tank. I want to incorporate a Kasrkin in some way but not sure yet. Waiting on bits to finish the commander.
The Spider's camouflage pattern included reversed Zebra stripes, which folks find weird when the light colour is the exterior colour and the dark is inside that (which from the photo you can see I need to add the black now).
WIP shot, base coats and shading done. Went with these guys from the Gorechosen box in the end. Ideally would do all four but one already had some paint on - too much to be included? (only colour kept is the skin, red base colour and weapon blades changed)
If you're painting over most of that, it's fine to enter.
@queen_annes_revenge: Coming along really nicely! Best of luck at the Demon! If you have a minute to explain, what's your method for the face, it looks fantastic.

Thanks! I love doing faces. My recipe here is 50/50 bugmans glow and vallejo elf flesh basecoat. I glazed purple under the cheek bones and around the eyes, followed by red around the ports of the butchers nails and the scars. After that I washed blue around the eyes, then took the highlights through the basecoat mix adding a little white each time, then glazed a white over the top dragging it to the highlighted areas.
A good battle for the top 3 and also 4-5 and 6-7, well done everyone past the halfway point now.
Good progress Captain Brown I like how you have done the Zebra Strips.
Well done for getting it entered Jadenim, you did well to get it in in half a month.
Thats looking Crazy good DV8, Great eyes
Thanks! It's my first time entering. Hoping the fact I've not done NMM doesn't affect the results. Just not done enough of it to be competent on a competition piece.
Some great entries and WIP shots here, really need to get on with my entry! Personal life got in the way a bit and I'm debating adding another model to my entry, can I do that?
Tyranid Horde wrote: Some great entries and WIP shots here, really need to get on with my entry! Personal life got in the way a bit and I'm debating adding another model to my entry, can I do that?
As long as you keep adding proof pics, you can keep changing your mind and adding stuff right up to the end.
Change too often Para might get a little irritated updating things, but a few swaps/additions should be safe.
I wish I had done a series of Work In Progress shots, because this has been so damn fiddly, and I, quite pleased with it. I'll just give you a list of what I've done instead. Ive recently returned to the game after about 20 years and been totally wowed by some of the new plastic figures available, and some of the amazing paint jobs on here, but i saw this on another site and it blew my mind: http://www.coolminiornot.com/140888/2#comments I've always played Eldar and always hated the metal figure that was available 20 years ago. It was too short in the body and the sword and hand were at weird angles- oh and that stupid hairpiece that nobody could ever keep in place. So i never had an Avatar for my army. I don't have £60 for a forge world splurge, so Ebay and some green stuff to the rescue!
my mods:
1 - Pin the body and legs together with an oversized pin to leave a gap of about 3mm (ish).
2- Fill the gap with green stuff, and model an extra set of abs - he now has an 8 pack, not a 6 pack. There's a slight twist in the position to the right, too. Added some extra shaped muscle-shaped lumps to fill the back out with detail. I'm not an anatomist, but it looks about right to me. The spine was from the tip of a tentacle i found in my bits box.
3- cut the right arm off at the wrist, pin into a straight pose and fill gap with green stuff.
4- He gets a haircut. The fig from eBay didn't have the hairpiece anyway, so I took the spike off the top of his head too. but this left a really clean, bland back to his head. dive into the bits box and I cam out with an old Slaanesh Daemonette with a ridged claw. Took the top pincer and stuck it to the back of the head, blending into the shape of the head to create the 'vents'
5- Painted to try and recreate the Hot feel of that Forgeworld Avatar. I've got a lot more crimson with the blending, where I think he went from red almost straight to black, but I'm pretty happy with the effect.
Unfortunately I'm off to another country tomorrow night, so I'm not going to have time to do the base and I'll have to submit it as it is. I'm thinking of chopping the flames of the back of an Infinite Spells Taurus to go round the back edge, then filling the whole of the base with a carpet of skulls, but I'm open to suggestions if anyone has a better idea!
I'd also like to replace the horns with a nice spiky set of antlers, but I couldn't anything that looked just right, so I figured I would leave it as is. I can always come back to it another day. Here are the pics:
Oops - the front didn't post for some reason.
Edit: the chain is also from my bits box. a broken gold chain I picked up from the bottom of a swimming pool. Using Gold on Lead- does that make me an alchemist?
Hey folks, just dropping in some quick WIP pics and to get some feedback on my sculpting. I've never done anything more complex than a spine around a paperclip support so feedback would be appreciated greatly!
@Tikay that looks awesome! I love the glowing molten joints!
Sculpt looks good to me! Should look great painted up.
OP is all up to date now, nice to see a lot of new names in the list this month! Some very exciting WIPs showing up as well, so I look forward to seeing them reach completion.
And a quick note for anyone who's found the challenge in the last year, December is always an Open Round in which there is no theme, so as long as it meets the rules you can paint whatever you like! A good chance to flex your creative muscles, get a head-start on some Christmas goodies or just paint something quick in between all the holiday madness!
Probably should get around to posting this, figured I'd do the reaper nagadra Captain. Kinda forgot to take a proof until I'd already got the first layer on the scutes...
And as it is now. May do some more touchups here and there, and obviously need some less blurry pics...
Deadshot, hair looks good, should paint up nicely.
Tikay Fortooun, nice blast from the past, comes together well. Kinda sucks you won't have time for the base.
Daenarys of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, The Unburnt, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar and the First Men, Queen of Meereen, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Protector of the Realm, Lady Regnant of the seven Kingdoms, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons.
Had a lot of fun with this one, although I probably ended up repainting her skin 5 times and the hair at least 2 or 3 times.
Tikay and DV8: those are some great looking entries!
Deadshot: The sculpting looks great!
Vejut: Great progress, looks like a really nice model!
I've been a bit lax in my progress but I did sit down and put a little work into my entry today. Mainly working on making the armour muted at the minute but I should be done by the end of the week all going to plan although I think I need to liven up the base somehow.
Here is my Necromundian Guard Junior Officer and Command Section.
Trooper Haskel on the left, while a Veteran is junior to Specialist Surach (Medic), who is junior to Corporal Vortagen (VOX Operator), who is junior to Colour Sergeant Kussax, who is junior to Lieutenant Kurssach.
All are patch members (on the right forearms of their uniforms) of the "Spiders" Clan from Hive Palantine of the planet Necromunda. The Clan that traditionally provides the personnel for the 8th Regiment with each raising of troops for the Imperial tithe. As veterans there are a fair number of extra weapons, including several side arms. Due to their role as supporting Lieutenant Kussach, many are wearing the soft cap rather than their helmets they would wear at the front line. Each trooper has the "8" of their regimental number and the skull motif for the battle honours for the Battle of Deucalion that wiped out a previous raising of the Regiment on the planet Deucalion.
For my entry I am painting Voronin and his dog. Why I didn't take a proof picture of both of them I don't know. Voronin is already done, though he needs a proper photoshoot. I think that the face turned out great, and although the rest of the model is sculpted pretty plainly that's fine since it directs more atention to the face.
lookin' good there MG ...that nice strong green skin is a good contrast against all the red...flames look good too
...do you have any idea what you're supposed to do with those 3 spare jerry cans?...I just left mine off...there didn't really seem to be anywhere ideal to put them
I originally posted a proof of two miniatures - Darth Vader and General Veers, but due to a combination of factors and a hugely stressful month, I reckon I will probably only get Vader finished. Will it be okay to just enter one of the two?
3 captains, 3 marks of armor, 3 chapters. Fun little project to see how many different things I can cram into one month. And can you ever have too many captains on the shelf? I think not!
One problem with painting 3 guys like this is it’s hard to show your work with just a few pics. Everyone wants detail shots, but only so many to go around. So here are some extra pictures (but not for the official entry)
So, I'm calling my entry finished for the month. Unfortunately inspiration to paint Logan Grimnar failed me, but I did get the Primaris Battle Leader finished, so here he is:
I had a ton of fun painting this model. It's actually my first painted Space Wolf. It's also the first time I've tried doing snow on a base. I think I can do better on the snow in the future, but overall I'm pretty pumped by how he turned out. The last pic ended up a little blurry but my camera just didn't want to focus on the guy's face. Of course my camera is basically a cheap potato, so maybe next year I'll invest in a better one. Good luck to everyone else finishing their entries, and I look forward to the voting.
Really love the almost-classic Space Wolves colors you've got going on there!
I guess I had never really noticed it until now, but I really dislike that massive gap between the gorget and the head. You'd think GW would put SOME sort of detail there...
I've been procrastinating with mine but with the deadline looming I took the time to finish it and be happy with the result. I probably could do a lot more to it but I think it'll do. First competition I've entered a model into so it was fun to do and see how my work ethic changed when I had a deadline. C&C very much appreciated.
Archon of The Weeping Eye Kabal: "The Weeping Maiden"
The Weeping Maiden is not a typical Archon that is expected of Drukhari Society. Not a high-born, nor a low-born, she inherited the mantle of Archon through circumstance. During the incident where Khaine's Gate fell to a host of daemons, the horde could only be slowed by the use of pocket portals. These portals threw portions of the daemon host into far flung reaches of the Webway, as well as into the depths of Commorragh.
One such pocket portal brought a force of daemons into the stronghold of the Weeping Eye Kabal. Be it an accident or the sinister plot of a rival Kabal, the Weeping Eye were caught off-guard and butchered in their own back yard. When the few realspace raiders returned to their home, they found a bloodbath, their Archons and Incubi bodyguards all killed.
In the ensuing weeks, Kabalites fought each other for the right to become Archon but it was The Weeping Maiden who united them under her lead. Backed by an unknown Wych Cult, she brought order to the chaos stricken Kabal, giving them a new path to forge.
Armed with a single razorflail, a gift from her sister within the same Wych Cult that supported her rise to power, she wields it with a lethal precision and leads her Kabal from the front.
I've managed to paint Foul BlightSpawn this month - I've started working on it last week. I hope it's enough higher rank command unit to enter the competition beyond the standard marine
Bit of a rerun for me this month with another Plague Marine, quick and dirty. A little less metallic on the armour this time, and I think the mutated areas came out better than last time.

Final:
Any thoughts welcome!
I might be a bit slow getting the final updates done to the OP and getting the vote going, I'm away this weekend and super-busy with work, so apologies in advance. I'll try and at least get the December round up on time.
So, still experimenting with the camera, think I needed one more light, they all came out a bit dark. Rolling with it because I'm outta energy. First one is re-used from earlier, because it shows the colors nicer, even if the focus is a bit off.
Final pics.
Bloody hell...yet another month of amazing entries! I started taking notes on the entries so far and just ended up with too much to put here - I will save them for once everyone has finished.
Here is my finished entry - Pirate Captain Blue...no beard. The parrot fits a little strangely but her top comes off!!! This was my first ever attempt at a bust - it really is quite a different experience. There were a lot of imperfections in the casting, so half the paint job was to correct those. Larger surfaces SOUND like they should be easier but blending smoothly is a bloody nightmare...also, the stripes on her shirt are freehand, so getting them to curve around her...umm...curves was quite tricky. I am also happy that the nmm is subtle but (I think) looks pretty convincing.
Overall, this model was a ton of fun to paint - I really enjoyed it.
nice. I'd like to do a bust at some point. agree that bigger surfaces require more blending. I think I'd choose an airbrush for something that size for the flat areas.
queen_annes_revenge wrote: nice. I'd like to do a bust at some point. agree that bigger surfaces require more blending. I think I'd choose an airbrush for something that size for the flat areas.
It's actually interesting because I think the opposite is true, from a stylistic and aesthetic point of view. Namely that on larger surfaces, I find that imperfections can help aid the textural information being conveyed about a surface. And making a surface too perfect could almost detract from the "realism" of the piece (uncanny valley sort of effect).
But that's my own artistic approach to it.
@Chris56
Fantastic entry; I love the vibrancy of the colors and the fact that the shirt is, of course, removable. Nicely done! My biggest critique is in the shading and highlighting of the neck and collarbone, but I don't want to step on your toes here. Let me know and I'll throw up some Photoshop trickery.
Mighty fine entries folks! I'm currently on 17 minutes to go, and speedpainted 8 coats in the last 1hr. I have 5 colours and basing to go. Pray for me!
So I'm a little bit past the deadline. It was a really busy month at uni for me, so quite dissappointed about this one. Neglected the bases once again to speed things. My (late) entry is below, I hope everyone likes it!
Paradigm, if you have to disqualify me, no hard feelings, rules are rules!
Heroes of Aurelia - M42
Below we have the characters of Dawn of War 2, reimagined and recreated for the modern age of 40k! I have some fluff made up and more pics and that fluff will be posted in my blog.
Group Photo: From Left to right:
Sergeant Avitus; Lieutenant Cyrus; Heracles Nike, Champion of the Chapter; Lieutenant Tarkus; Lieutenant Thaddeus
1st Lieutenant Tarkus and 2nd Lieutenant Thaddeus, 5th Company. They wear helmets in their company colours as befitting their rank of Lieutenant, while Tarkus wear's a white stripe to symbolise his Veteran status.
Lieutenant Cyrus, 10th Company.
There were none more fitting to take the role of Lieutenant for the 10th Company, as it was a role Cyrus had performed in all but name for centuries.
Sergeant Avitus, 5th Company
Avtius is the one I created fluff for the most. He is seen here in heavy Mk3 Iron Armour.
Heracles Nike, Champion of the Blood Ravens
When Apollo Diomedes relinquished his position as Champion, there was no doubt who his successor would be. Heracles Nike is ferocious in combat, peerless in faith, and zealous beyond measure.
As promissed, here is my WIP. I was away for two weekends which is when I do most of the painting, plus the project is quite ambitious.
Too bad I couldn't make it.
@ Feltmonkey, that is some really nice OSL; I often find that technique is overused/overdone, but that’s really subtle and on makes an otherwise monochrome miniature really pop.
...do you have any idea what you're supposed to do with those 3 spare jerry cans?...I just left mine off...there didn't really seem to be anywhere ideal to put them
nope, they got dropped since I was running short of time, will be handy for the bits pile
My Final Pics - Still a few minor bits unfinished and the grot at the back got no love, just slapped some paint on him. The drivers face came out well but the bosses is still lacking. The base is also bad, wrong size and not finished.
Anyway Enjoy

I did, back in May...came third too! ...anyway, it may not be finished, but what has been done is still a very nice bit of painting, I'd vote for it...up to you and Paradigm though I guess
I think in this case, I'm going to rule it out just because it's clearly unfinished; there's a difference between 'mostly done, just needing final touches' like the entry ZoBo mentioned and 'large parts of the model unattached/unpainted'. Hope that's alright, I just want to be fair to everyone. I don't think it's really appropriate to be allowing part-assembled/painted models to be considered 'finished' entries.
Sorry, I do appreciate that losing your streak of completed entries is a shame, but I think this is only fair.
Calling things to a close now, I'll try and get the poll up soon.
I'm with you on OSL generally. I am not generally a fan, especially of that kind of airbrush OSL where a squirt of colour is just sprayed on what's supposed to be a light. It doesn't look like light! It looks like paint! I don't think Vader would have worked without it though, so I had to have a bash. As usual, I leant on some YouTube guides to help me.
Thanks Zobo and Modock (sry didnt mean to give you false hope there) I'd still want to see your entry when its finished, your work is always a joy to behold
My bad, I thought it was one image rather than two together. Editing now.
Apologies for the delay in the vote, I've got some important deadlines coming up that are demanding most of my attention. I'll try and get it done today or tomorrow though.

Hey man, you're doing this on your own time for an unofficial contest where the points don't matter! You do you, and we appreciate your effort!
