Just like it says, are there any other AT-43 players/fans out there in hiding

I have a large Therian force, but I've never played the game. Just bought them 'cause I liked the minis.

Never could get the super-rare walker though.

Still got my Therians in a box somewhere. I hardly played while it was actually on sale, and not nowadays. Perhaps I could use 'em as necrons?

It never really took of fin my meta. Part of the issue was that our meta wasn't prepared for a pre-painted game scene. That changed a few years later with X-Wing, but Star Wars helped break that mold.

I've got a bunch of the minis and still read the fluff in the army books from time to time, but I've never played the game.

I would recommend to anyone who has enough minis to give it a shot, the game is really a lot of fun for at least my group there are some amazingly hard to find models and ebay is chilling in its prices but still, we have been slowly building up.

Couple of people in my group were thinking of selling off their collections. So they arranged to have one last game night this past Saturday.

Well, they ended up playing again tonight ...

I bought the Therians because they look cool, as I said, and because I invented a race for our homebrew sector that we have set 40K and 40K RPG games in, and wanted something to represent them. They fit really well.

Even got to write 'em into the actual background a bit with the Enemies Without book for DH2.0 (not the Therians, obviously, but the race I made that I use the Therians to rep in-game).

Having just looked through the army books this past weekend, a good deal of the art is really quite high in quality. The Therian stuff is easily my favorite. Some truly creepy stuff! Using them for 40K RPG is a great idea.

I had some years ago, but sold them. I want to find some to either play again, or repurpose the minis.

you can still find stuff, its getting harder (and more expensive) but there are still stockpiles around, I was able to acquire a relatively cheap Red Block type 1 strider today "Molot". Allows me to really push "Frontline" as a solid build for all mechanized force " We have been having a LOT of fun with the AT-43 Tactics RPG. our only regret is that ONI and COGs came out after it did

I also bought an army of Therians because they looked cool, including I think the big walker, but I ended up completely going off the concept I had for the army so they've just been sat in a cupboard for a few years as I consistently fail to find the energy to resell them.

Afraid not. I have(intact, unopened boxes) 6x Storm Golems Unit, 2x Storm Golems Attachment, 1x Assault Golems Attachment, 2x Bane Goliaths Unit, 2x Wrath Golgoth Unit, and 1x Baal Golgoth. I think I might also have a bunch of loose Medusas sitting in a drawer somewhere.

Level 1 walkers are the only Therians I DON'T have. Never liked the sculpts, as Therians. Would do very nicely for AdMech though, they are the right kind of ugly.

I considered making some out of eldar jetbike canopies, with three mechanical spider legs underneath and two mechanical scything talons, all connected to an armature. I sourced everything except the talons.

The opposite here, kitbashing I am very good at, painting less so. I am OK qualitywise, but I am uncomfortable with it enough that I cant get down to it as often as I should. This is proably because I cannot easily match my own standards.

However that wasnt the issue here, but optics. I do dislike the level 1 Golgoths, love everything else. There was another factor, Tiamat has a routine that for a simple expenditure of poser points she should summon level 1 walkers. At-43 was very badly balanced as that summons was a free throw in ability, or an already powerhouse faction that summoned powerful units without limit. However if I dont have any level 1s Tiamat can't spam them.

I bought into the game with the Damocles demo set, and have about 3,000+AP each of Therians, Red Blok, UNA, and Karmans. Avoided the Cogs and Oni as they were hideously unbalanced with a capitol 'WTF'.

I think both it and the Confrontation system are really fun games, doubly so because of the shared core rules. The Universal Table of Resolution is a thing of simple genious.

I have an ongoing project where I am using the PDF for the unreleased Goblin army in the Aarklash universe with Skaven, making them literally "The army of the Rat", as lots of Skaven actually have a pseudo-samurai feel if you paint them right, with Warhammer Ogres as their Dai-Bakemono allies, including a Leadbelcher with some clanrat crew as a counts-as for their Mountainbreaker artillery piece.

I also have 2-3,000ap of Griffon, Dirz, and Wolfen. Thanks to the FFG fire sales, I have at least one of everything for each of the C:AoR and AT-43 armies I own.

I love AT-43. My buddy and I have every army (well, he has about 12,000 points of Red Blok and I have at least 5000 points of each other army, probably more). We have been trying to get a game in for a few years, but with us being family men and management, time is a premium.

I would love to see a rebirth of AT-43, but I fear that ship has sailed, gotten marooned on breakers, and now is a fish habitat.

Also, the PPP Confrontation stuff was amazing. I have too many Lion cavalry to be useful and more wolfen that anyone has a reason to own. But I think a lot of us have too many wolfen...

I did pretty much the same, except that I want easy on the monkeys leaving gaps for two army box sets which were never released.4
I wanted to collect ONI because they had a great style to them, but never got around to it in time. Agree on the balance problems, for ONI you could self police it away, but Cogs were inhernetly broken. Red Blok was also inherently weak. Balance was all over the place.

My Confrontation armies gre at the same time and are also big. I have some of everything that was released for Age of Ragnarok, plus one or two metals. Got a large army of Griffon, Dirz and Wolfen and a passably large army of Lion and Ram with heavy character contingents. I got mind from Ludik Bazaar and Miniatures Market all in the window of heavy discounts..

I definitely liked the rules, but the later factions kept my group away. I think the generic space apes did it in.

I love the setting. The rules are really good, ONI and the COGS only bother us because they are impossible to get enough of the right stuff to play the game with them now that its OOP.

The setting was what did it for me. Having said that, I found the rules nice and elegant; putting everything into range bands, and measuring all range and LOS to/from unit leaders rather than individual troopers worked well

Still got a box of Therians lurking somewhere. Can't remember what's in there offhand - mostly the early releases (I think I split two copies of the starter box with my mate who wanted UNA).

I wanted to like Confrontation: Age of Rag'Narok, but it didn't work quite as well as AT-43 for a few reasons. Firstly the choice of unit profiles in the starter set - everything hit on a 4+ and wounded on a 4+; I'd have preferred a bit of variety there. Secondly, the prepaints didn't seem to be of the same quality as those in AT-43. I don't know if that was down to the more complicated patterns required for the Conf minis, or if it was cost-cutting (later AT-43 units like the Cogs seemed to be lower quality too). The major problem was the release schedule, though. A pity, as I'd still like to get some Griffin templar cavalry. I managed to get the command set, but the basic riders were perpetually unavailable.

Has anyone had any experience repainting those prepaints?

Cool setting, nice miniatures, and I echo the sentiment regarding elegant rules.

[Am currently using my Therians as proxies for Ad Mech while my official minis are being constructed.

On official-sized GW bases am currently fielding: Dominus (Golem Alpha), 2 engineseers (squid-things w/ arms), 2 datasmiths (squid-things w/out arms), 3 full Vanguard (Storm Golem), 2 full Ranger (Assault Golem), 2 minimum Kastellan Destroyer units (Hekats w/ spare vehicle sonic wpns as Phosphor Cannons, other Hekats as the admittedly less-useful punch-bots), Grim Golems as Ruststalkers, Wraith Golgoths as Neutron Onagers and Eradication Beam Onagers.

Sinister Dark-Mechanicum vibe from the Therians, no complaints from opponents.]

I had no issues applying any paint (for squad-markings) on the pre-painted minis.

-I liked the setting for both games.

-Shooting range being in bands where the further away the target is it's harder to hit. So simple, but so seldom seen. Also cover was simp!y and effectively done.

-The Universal Table of Resolution was genious in an era of games lime 40k being stuck with lots of tables to refer to.

The only sucky part was the incorrect way that AoE and scatter was figured in AT43, even though it was retroactively fixed after Age of Ragnorok came out.

Heck yeah it does!

I know I will never get rid of my armies for either game, and am actually finally in full-thrust for another Age of Ragnorok army. I hope in a few years one or the other of my kids will want to play AT-43 or Age of Ragnorok with me. I have no time (or inclination, frankly) for painting more than skirmish-level warbands anymore, so both games are likely the only way I will be playing army-scale games.

Which, frankly is ok, as both games are quite a bit of fun to play at that level (a couple of wonky/overpowered rules have to be tweaked in both games' cases), and because I am lucky enough to have 4 pretty large armies stored away for each system, I ought to get some good mileage out of them.... once I can actually get them on the table again, lol.

Someday it would be nice to buy my buddies Ram off of him.

Well, here I was taking a trip down memory lane and I see this forum topic...

Glad to see some of you are still out there! My armies (thousands of points Therian, RB, UNA, Kharmans and Cogs) slumber away in boxes just waiting for the they I find some other player... But that is a beautiful dream at this point.

The setting, the rules (most of them) and the prepainted nature of the game is what made it so attractive to me, if only Rackham hadn't shot itself in the foot managing the line who knows what we could have had?

I'm just real tired of W40k's dominion and relished the breath of fresh air.

Well this is a total fluke that I found this thread!

I have heaps of AT-43 UNA, Therians and Red Blok (i have images somewhere...).

I think it was the art style and the mini design that mostly drew me into it, but I am a fan of both the alternating activation and the weapons accuracy mechanic
Outside of the introduction box though I never really got many games in, and I started buying most of my collection when they were going bust because I really wanted the minis!!!

So, I was looking for a Star Wars: Legion thread and found this AT-43 one...as I used to play AT-43, but sold it all to someone in Europe about a year after Rackham went under...but kept all the containers and barricades!

For those of you that loved the game mechanics of AT-43, but cant get anyone to play the 'dead' game with you... I suggest checking out Star Wars: Legion...It's got some very similar rules, and just reminds me a lot of the experience I had playing AT-43.

Anyhow, that's my contribution. Happy gaming!

I never ended up getting COGs or ONI when they came out as they seemed of a completely different power level, design-wise. Therians are bad enough for their notorious "free" striders that can be brought in, but Cogs can also do that plus they have insane amounts of re-rolls.

Our once a year / game, October 2018.

It is hard for all of us to get together, as some in this group live out of town.

But our annual gathering is always a blast. 4 Player team throw down here.
A system is only dead if you no longer give it your time. We have made some house rules, and enjoy AT-43 still (although it is more exciting, practical, affordable and fun to play, "active" supported games, I understand).

Luckily I have enough of each of the main 4 forces that a game usually only uses 1/3 those forces at a time, so I can change things up from game to game, either with force composition, or another faction entirely.

I just wish I could play both AT43 and C:AoR more often.

COGS were absolutely no fun to play against, and somewhat ruined experiences in our local scene back then.
Thankfully my group doesn't touch them.

One of the house rule balances I seems to remember to take their "reroll" number, and instead of having that many complete rerolls (which is completely insane), you only reroll that many dice TOTAL. It makes them a bit more bearable, but still on a rather different power level than the original 4 factions.

The Succubus Golgoths arrived!

One was perfect condition, the other was snapped off its base and one of its claws was broken off... hmm...

Shouldn't be too hard to fix, and really given how rare they are I can't say I'm too unhappy.

Another AT-43 fan here. Partner in crime to ShrapnelSmile - in fact that's how I met him. Sadly I got into the game right about the time Rackham folded (circa late 2009). Just in time to catch some fantastic deals as vendors blew out stock and I managed to get huge quantities of all the armies (even ONI). They are among my most prized possessions. When I die I'm going to go full-Pharoah and have them buried with me.

AT-43 has one of the slickest rules systems I've ever seen for tabletop miniatures gaming. Yes, it has a few glitches here and there but overall it works pretty well and fairly smoothly, especially when the players are being actual sportsmen about it and not nit-picking every stupid little thing like little troll rules lawyers. AT-43 is NOT to played with nit-pickers.

I think the balance issues that have been brought up are not as bad as most think. The second best thing about AT-43 (right behind it's smooth simple rule system) is how wonderfully asymmetric the armies all are. I've never seen another game get asymmetry so right. The key to victory in AT-43 is to truly, deeply understand your army and how it works. Even the way you build your list is critical to success - a victory always starts with the proper list. And you must show absolute discipline on the battlefield - you MUST play your army correctly no matter what losses you take. Indeed, taking losses (even massive losses) is a key part of the game - you need to ruthlessly expend your manpower assets just like they were ammo or fuel. You can't win with Red Blok (for instance) without burning at least two-thirds of your force. Often for the space-russkies, victory is claimed by only a tattered bloody handful of troops and - maybe - a shot up smoking AFV. Every faction has certain things it's really good at, and certain weaknesses that at least one other faction is really good at exploiting. No two factions are the same, or even similar. Your job is to play to your faction's strengths while shrewdly managing your weaknesses. Much more so than any other game I can think of. The actual combat itself is almost secondary to the meta of setting up your faction abilities, list, and strategy.

Some of the best tabletop wargaming I've ever done has been in the AT-43 system. I'm still massively saddened by Rackham's demise. I really miss those weird Frenchmen.

Reading this made me remember just how great a game AT-43 was. Sadly not many people played in my area at the time of the games release, and with Rackham going under it was pointless keeping my collection. One thing I wish I had of kept were the rules. With today's quality of plastic kits it would be very easy to kit bash a force and get people into the system.

To all of those who still have their collection and opponents, you really are lucky.

I think it never took off in our meta was because of the lack of hobby. Ironically, it is one of the things which attracted a lot of X-Wing players (along with the Star Wars thing).

I actually got big into AT-43 and Confrontation Age of Ragnorok because unlike my other minis games, other than little touch-ups on individual models, I could spend 100% of my time working on terrain.

Keep meaning to get either game on the table, they are great ones!

I own some UNA stuff and I picked up a bunch or kharmans in a deal, but I don't have the rules so I have been using them in other games.

Sadly I was one of those people just getting into the game as it died.

Now I switched over to its WWII version-DUST 1947

It has similar unit composition from what I have seen, if it was anything as good as how dust plays it is unfortunate it didn't do well.

Funny side note, I have kharmans and I also have squads of AXIS pioneer gorillas, talk about irony.

You got that plus assault medusas for $50? Dude holy crap that's freakin awesome! I think I still need a few assault medusas' to finish off my collection (given up on getting the grim golem overseer!).

Where in Aus are you based?

And side for for everyone else, does anyone have "Cry havoc!" vol 16 or 17? I know they are only in french but I'm trying to get the AT-43 info out of it...trying to summarise all the Damocles Campaign notes from them as they have some additional rules not included in the campagin book (such as alternative platoon structures and equipment).

Hah funny.

I remember I bought the base game and a couple of Therian units and an extra Golgath or two.
By the next time they had a sale the U.S. mail had just gone through a big price restructure and fuel was at a premium & AT-43 boxes are huge of course.
You'd have the S&H end up more than the minis in some cases.

About 2 years ago I found someone selling At-43 on a local online classified website. A shocking find since most people in the hobby advertised on hobby-centric forums or Facebook marketplace groups.
I bought a sealed box of Operation Frostbite for like $20 or $30 and while picking it up I saw he had a couple big boxes of other AT-43 stuff including a good sized Oni army NIB.
He didn't really know what it all was - he had no experience with miniature games. He was a comics/Star Wars collectible guy who bought up large lots at auctions and sold off the stuff he didn't want.
Instead of trying to snag it all from him I just pointed out the stuff that was high value and recommended a couple of specialty sites/forums to post them on.
Still waiting for the Universe to return on that Karmic investment.

I had my At-43 sent to a forum members house, by prior agreement. He deboxed them placed them all in a bag and wrapped the bag in bubble wrap, shipping volume was a small fraction of the original. I lose all packaging and there were a small number of breakages but it was glueable so no biggie.

It would have saved a fortune on international shipping, and the smaller parcels were not as noticable by customs. The contents were also thoroughly second hand by then and could legally be given an arbitrary value.

Edited double post.

I didnt like the Type 1 Golgoth models at all.

Instead I planned some sleeker versions of Type 2 golgoths by using three Type 2 golgoth legs on an armature under an eldar Jetbike canopy.
I have more than enough cheap Wraith golgoths to make some.
However I lazed out and didnt go through with the build.

The other reason I didn't do this is because Rackham made GW seem like paragons of game balance. COGs come to mind here, but also Tiamat's broken routines that allows her to spam type 1 golgoths. If I dfont have any I cant cheese out on them.

Nice haul of Assault Medusas, truth be told I stopped at four and didnt look for more. I much prefer Goliaths. I would be miffed if I didnt have any, but one token squad is enough for me. They look nice and have lots of character but are very slow.

I do have lots of Storm Arachns though, and like to spam those just because it looks like I should. They are hard to get hold of.

I've been a long time fan of AT-43. It was the first miniatures game I ever got into and the only reason why I did so was that I didn't have to assemble and paint them.

Currently I have a good amount of U.N.A, Therian, and Karmans. I didn't care for Red Blok so I don't have any. The other two factions, as has been mentioned, are completely out of balance and unplayable (except for perhaps only against each other). I tried with out back when they first came out, but it was clear there were problems.

Six months ago I found out that a co-worker of mine (for about two years) is also a big AT-43 fan. He has Red Blok so we started playing a couple times a month-ish. We're both super excited to play again. Then COVID-19 hit and we had to stop playing in person.

However, I was able to make a version playable in Lucidchart (it's an online diagramming tool that I often use to make cheat sheets for RPG's, miniatures, and prototyping card games). I'll throw some screenshots in as well. We're able to play a full game in about two hours. Lucidchart even handles the dice rolling (set the number of dice, what the target is, and then click a button to roll). Fun fact, last game took 51 dice rolls. While I still miss playing the game in person, I will say that clean up sure is a lot faster... just close a browser window. :-D

AT-43 is still my favorite miniatures game.

Hey everyone, hope I'm not necroing too much here, but I have a question.

Does anyone know if there is a dedicated, active forum for AT-43 anywhere?

I just found two complete army boxes at a fleamarket a few days ago (one ONI and one COGS), and I grabbed them just to use for some Savage Worlds stuff or whatever if we ever went to space, but after looking up the game online, I can see that an ONI Army Box is like $300 on EBay, and that seems kinda crazy for a game where I personally can't find any active communities for it?

Other than here, there are two other places that have been active. The main place, at-43.understairs, has been down since mid 2018 though. The owner of the site though still has the rights to it so one day it may come back online. The other place is the Esoteric Order of Gamers, as the owner there still a massive fan of AT-43. Threads pop up every now and then in his forumns and he does videos on youtube from time to time. Plus he redid the AT-43 quick reference stuff into an easier to read and print format

I used to have some, when it came out. Then got rid. In January I grabbed an Operations Damocles boxset going cheap on a whim.. still not sure quite why. But it has turned out to be a savior.. my friends two young lads have been stuck on their Xbox since the lock down started here in the UK and have been growing more and more anti-social and aggressive.. It all boiled over in a huge family argument and their mum laying down the law.

So I gave them the box to paly with and it got them off the x-box and they are loving it. They have played all the missions in the book and more now. I make up missions for them and have even got them playing some games using good old Rogue Trader 40K fist edition.. but mostly its with the Rackham rules.

Now I am on the hunt for some more bits and pieces to expand their armies.. got a handful of karmans and 5 red block infantry from a gaming buddie thus far to add.

Hoping I can find some more bits and build up some where near some legitimate armies for them in time for their birthdays in late august.

Its a great system. So easy to teach even over video calls and distancing lol. If anyone is getting rid of stuff please give me a shout.

Now off to design this weekends games for them.. ! Hunting a fire toad renegade!

Hey all !
I've been following this thread for awhile !
I recently spent a lot of time trying to restart things up for AT-43, virtually !

It is TIME !!!
After some hours spent trying to get the best of TTS, finding compatible maps, and getting all the resources together:
WE CAN PLAY !
I created a dedicated discord, it's empty for now, it's just a meetup place:
Discord invite link: bcDCkrfgqp

(If anybody wants to join the project and help me get this discord rolling let me know)

I know it's not the real deal, but it's the closest we have and after testing a full game on TTS I can say it does the trick !
Feel free to join, write, tell me when you're free to play !
Build a 2k and 3k list and we can get things rolling !

Can't wait to meet you guys

I have a question for those still looking to play At-43. What would you think about a re-release of all the miniatures? It would be a truly massive undertaking but I think it is possible. I have been in the 3d printing wargame space for a few years now and the art that is coming out of there is to the point of being higher detail than what some of the big companies are making. Kits can be made modular and using good design concepts support locations can be fully hidden within the internal faces of models. It has also been over 10 years by my count since anyone claimed the AT-43 IP and with EOoG having all the rules out there it might be time to add the models. The goal would be new sculpts based on the original art, added detail, and kits that can be posed. Original models can be scanned to use as templates from which the new parts can be sculpted to keep the core design elements intact. This was one game I saw growing up and always wished I had the money to get into, but once I was able to the game was no longer in print. The hardest part of all of this would be the initial asset files for each race, getting the source material to start to build from, but it is well within reach. Thoughts?

It didn't go so well when Vor: The Maelstrom tried. Judging from Archon not continuing the license, Warzone didn't fare so well in the end though had (for it's time) a very successful kickstarter. I don't know. I'd be interested in picking up a few models here and there for scifi rpg purposes but not getting fully into the game.

Yeah, as much as I love AT-43 as both a game and a setting, I think it's been too long to pull off a resurrection, especially since Dust pushed so many of the same buttons(no surprise considering who was involved and that it was the original AT-43 premise) for all those intervening years.

AT-43, anyone still out there? @ 2021/12/27 20:34:35

Post by: Charistoph

I wouldn't say it would be impossible to pull off a resurrection. If anything, time can allow an opening that when its original release was never ready for.

For example, the general lack of hobby in AT-43 was one of the reasons why it never took off in our local groups. Fast forward a few years, and FFG pulls it off with X-Wing.

It might work if a proper investment in advertising the release.

Success is of course relative. While I don't see it reaching the hobby mass market distribution channels with prepaints again, I could see it reaching a more modest success with a 3d model and physical figure kickstarter using small batch as needed resin production.

So I'm not really even looking for a retail option, I want the STLs out there for people to use and so more people can get into the game for as cheap as possible. The real hangup is the cost of the scanner to start the project and getting the models to work on. If I could cover the cost of the equipment I would love to have all these kits for free or next to it.

AT-43, anyone still out there? @ 2022/01/02 01:01:04

Post by: clockworkotter

So I have been looking at the numbers, and assuming people who have the minis could get them to me for modeling, this project could be underway and making cheap STLs for roughly 5k on Kickstarter.
