Hi Folks...
It's been a while... after 7 years out of the hobby i'm back and returning to my previous goal of converting up some Exodites... (and some corsiars / pirates later on too). Some of you may remember a few years back i started this project and made some headway... well, life got in the way, and my models got lost in a house move (check my previous posts for images), but i couldn't get it out of my system so i'm back with some new bits and new ideas.
The Exodites have been a fascination of mine since when i first got into the hobby in the 90s.... i still think no one to this day topped these depictions -
So these will serve as my main inspiration. I'm not into gaming, only converting / kit-bashing and painting but the goal will be over time to make a small showcase force of exodites and pirates that could conceivably be a playable counts-as army. So if anyone has a decent army list 1000 - 2000 points based around windriders / shining spears with some foot troops (for the pirates)... it would be great to have something to draw inspiration from and to base models on. I want to make it a bit more believable and less cheesy that just plonking a load of fireprisim parts on lizardman (sorry, Serraphon) beasts... hence the pirate allies.
And as for the pirates, these will serve as my main inspiration there -
Ok, thats the intro over... next post will be the beginnings of an exodite farseer dragon knight.
Thats for watching... looking forward to being back!

Updates of the Farseer.
Trying to find that balance between Aeldari / Drukari and something a bit more feral yet elegant.
What do you think?

It took some doing to make the wide stance (from a dragon mage) legs fit on the cold one and then make them fit with the farseer torso. but i'm pleased with the results.
Thanks Guys...

Just found this from the Eldar Collection (not sketchbook)-
The description alludes to more Goodwin concept sketches of the exodites in the following pages... would anyone be so kind as to help me out seeing those?? If anyone who has this tome could send me some images i'd be eternally grateful.

What is the second dino destined to be ridden by?

The rear end of the pole is just a pommel. The blade and pommel are both taken from a helion glave. the idea is that it is much like a singing spear for craftworld farseers, but a bit more savage looking... Its not quite finished yet....
2nd dino rider will be an exodite dragon knight with a lasar lance.

Thanks. One thing i found disappointing about the FW corsairs was the lack of swash and buckle... i suppose that realistically speaking corsairs wouldnt be all that much different from regular eldar... but where is the fun in that? I intend my guys to be a bit more fun.

I agree. It is especially weird as the FW rules added a lot of swashbuckling with the brace-of-pistols wargear. They literally gave every Eldar pirate a pair of pistols like they were using flintlocks! It was/is basically a pair of a splinter pistol and a shuriken pistol.
Then additionally they could take a close combat weapon or a longarm of some kind on top of the pistols.

Yeah, I think the models were released alongside the first iteration of the rules, which didn't have the brace of pistols. That was added to be more piratical in later versions, and the models didn't update to match (and really just look like a Guardian version of Swooping Hawks). I get the impression the official models were meant to represent corsairs that were still closely aligned with the Craftworlds and their values, like Yriel's Eldritch Raiders, and not those that are closer to the Drukhari in nature. Are you planing to use these in games of 40k? If so, then modelling a pair of pistols onto each one could be a good idea. A bit tricky though, because only two Eldar kits have a pistol that is not being held- one shuriken pistol on the Dire Avengers sprue, and one splinter pistol on the Kabalite warriors sprue. Doesn't make it easy to get hold of them! Of course, these are only helpful if you want them to be holding a longarm* or close combat weapon of some sort... but then why wouldn't you want your Eldar pirates to have Eldar cutlasses? *Shuriken catapult, lasblaster, or shardcarbine. Why shardcarbine and not splinter rifle, I do not know, but it makes conversions harder work! Automatically Appended Next Post: Either way, I really like the start you've made on that corsair. What parts have you used?

There will be cutlasses to be sure...
No i dont play... i'm only really into modelling. I haven't been in the hobby for 7 years, an even then i only dipped back in for a year, before that the last time was in the 90s when was a kid.
I do intend to make my models look semi-play able as a counts as army so my plan for this squad is to make them storm guardian like... close combat. i will proably make a more generic guardian type squad with Shurican catapults later.
Infact if you have any craftworld army lists based around windriders and/or shining spears and foot troops i can base conversions, either exodite or pirates, on then please let me know. For example... i already have an idea of exodite fire dragons counts as.
Parts -
Guardian head
Wych right arm
Harlequin left arm
OOP High Elf Archer body

I really like how you have achieved a look that is both suitably high tech for Eldar space pirates, yet manages to successfully straddle a middle ground between the stuffy Craftworlders and sadistic DE It works really well for the grey area Corsairs occupy within the background. They also wouldn't look out-of-place alongside their fellow outcasts- the Rangers. I think the armoured lower-legs help to tie them in with the advanced-tech feel.

Thanks! Thats What i was going for... some kind of middle ground. They need to look high tech but at the same time there needs to be some swashbuckle for the fun and atmosphere. Different colour guardians with wings doesn't do it for me.

The legs are Tau Pathfinder thighs and Guardian shins / feet.

The Exodites, fluffwise, dont have an infinity circuit and hence probably wouldn't use wraith tech. They do have a 'world spirit' which is sort of similar. So who knows really may be they would have an equivilent...
Kits for the Corsairs you mean?
Here you go...
Eldar Guardians (legs & heads). High Elf Archers (torso). DE wych (arms). Harlequin (arms). Tau Pathfinder (legs)

I began work on the tail of the Farseer's dragon this evening... its a re-cast (shhhh!) i made of the old OOP serpentine dragon tail... they go for £60 or so these days but i still had one knocking about so cracked out the high temperature silicone and set to making a mould... damn!! It's not easy casting stuff. I made it in lead so i could easily reposition it and whilst its not a perfect cast, its pretty good. And i'm sure i can build up some of the lost detail using green stuff or whatever.
Anyway... i'm pretty happy... now just to blending it in with the rest of the model via some sculpting work. The scales/back plates overlap so its slow going waiting for each plate to dry. And of course the tail extension to make it more elegant as the original had some kind of hook / barb thing at the end.
Thanks for looking.

Finished the paint job on the Exodite farseer... very happy with how it came out... it was a nice break from pirates... but quite involved... also... i'm not confident enough yet to attempt eyeballs... i like it though.
Thanks for peepin'...

Looks brilliant! I like the flash of green feathers on the glaive, stands out nicely against the hues of the rest of the model.
The whole thing works really cohesively together.

This is a fantastic project! I tried to make some Exodites back in the early 1990s, but they weren't up to much. You've got a great selection of kits to use now which can make wonderful results as your Farseer demonstrates.
Did you ever get to see the other Exodite pics from the Jes Goodwin sketchbook? I'd be happy to take pics if you still need them.

I decided to try and make a model based on some deep fluff that have no models... in fact the existing fluff is barely a sentence long. I started a guessing game over on my instagram to see if anyone could figure out what this fella might be, and to may be see if my mini tells the right tale. Thought i would do that here too. What do you think this guy might be folks??

That model looks great! ...whatever it is
My Eldar-fu is lacking, so I haven't a scooby what it could be. I don't even know what branch of Eldar!

He looks like some kind of soul-hunter, wraith guard thing. And Like he needs the heads of his enemies (for the skull throne) for some kind of world circuit-related exodite shenanigans. I have no idea what an orb of Zandywotsit is.

Dont worry... its deep fluff.... They are aspect warriors with one shrine on one craftworld, Zandros. The fluff is barely sentence about them and states what i just said plus that they are 'wiredly terrifying'. Thats it....
I've written some extra fluff that i will post with the paint job but basically i re-imagined them as and anti-psyker aspect path that dedicate themselves to becoming 'blanks'... the Eldar abhor blanks, i figured that would be 'weirdly terrifying' by Eldar standards....

Eldar, deep fluff, almost no info, plus the visual cues on the model, the orbs, the mask, the sliciness. Seemed to fit.

Lovely conversion on your farseer. The cold one converted up really nice, the dragon princes horse head was an inspired choice that you mated expertly with the rest of model. Looking forward to see where you go with the slicing orb chap!

Thank you... yes... i have been going for a shamanistic feel... feral and bones and stuff. As to the eyeless elves.... i wrote this about that -
The warlocks of the exodite colonies are not unlike their craftworld counterparts in that they too are both powerful psykers and skilful in combat. Where they diverge however is in the belief that once they have achieved a certain profound level of synergy between mind and body, they ritualistically remove their own eyes. This act, viewed even by their exodite kin as somewhat barbaric, is believed to be the ultimate display of dedication and achievement in the discipline of the mind. For these warrior-monks, conventional vision is nothing but a hinderance to those that walk the path of the seer.
