Hey peeps
I've started a Death Guard army with the models I got back when the starter set dropped, plus a bunch of bits I've picked up from here and there.
(I'm always playing catch-up. I still haven't seen he last season of GoT, or the last two avengers films. I did see The Sopranos a couple of years back. Its pretty good. Give it a whirl)
I usually grow armies here there and whatever I feel like painting at the time. For this army I have a 3000 point army list that fills a Brigade. This is what I am going to build and i'm gonna try and be quite systematic about it.
These are about 90% there . . .
(I have a PLOG over on Warseer with more of my random stuff)

Flapjack: Yeah, I was a bit worried the face was too green when I stick the glaze on, but it’s come out OK.
90% done on some basic Bolter boys

Thanks for your kind words good sir.

Moar WIP: really like this guys (they are kinda cute in an evil Daemon kinda way).
I have a third one somewhere but I'm trying to put together a 1000 point list and sadly number 3 didn't make the cut . . .

The dirty paint scheme looks fantastic on the Death Guard. Nice and aged and gritty.

Getting there. Apologies for the poor quality photos; need to set up a proper photo-thingy space again.
I'm not happy with the sword, but having tried various rust effects and glowing warp-ness I will probably just lead it slimy.

Went in a different direction with the sword on a friend's advice. Much happier with it:
Need to sort the base out and tidy up a couple of bits.

First complete squad. Two Blight Launchers and a Plasma Guns means business y'all.
I'm glad I added the blobs of slime on the base; I think it was needed to help bring out their plague-y styles.

Rhino. This was previously painted black and part of my Chaos Renegades army. That's why its fairly minimal; the cargo was a squad of fallen zombie Death Company, so it was a wrecked/repaired imperial vehicle rather than a 'Chaos' Rhino. I think it still works as Death Guard are pretty utilitarian. If I do a second Rhino I think it will be a mess of greenstuff and tentacles.
The zombie gunner will probably make more sense when I get round to rebasing my plague zombies. I mean poxwalkers.
Leftovers inside.
I love the idea of a squad of plague zombies coming out the back, but I don't think its tactically feasible.

Chaos Lord
Really happy with this guy (I love making models out of leftovers and having unique HQs). Fluffwise he is 99% of the way to either ascension or spawndom; hence the mutations and lower toughness/lack of DR in game.
For now he will be the Warlord. Can't decide between the helm or Plaguebringer sword as a relic (with Arch Contaminator of course)
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Poxbringer
Not happy with this guy. Few reasons:
1) Stuck him together when I had flu and it shows; I had to add some lopsided mutations to cover up thumb prints
2) I liked the model right up until the Space Marines 3 were previewed, Now i want that Poxcaster instead.

Tallyman/Priest
A formal Death Guard counts as Dark Apostle (for 7th Edition Traitor Legions). I removed his mace and added a pistol.
He will lead the Plague Zombies. Revere the delicious flesh!
That takes me to a cool and tactically terrible 1000 points

Yorkright & Not Online!!!: thanks guys, your support is appreciated and helps keep me slogging on.
Speaking of which, currently rebasing 50 plague zombies
I'm sure it should be 51. I briefly tried to identify the missing model from memory. Turns out zombies are kinda samey (except for my form Delaque gang leader who is forth from the right in the front row).
His zombification wasn't a big deal. He was only a maxed experience WS/ BS/ Ld gun-fighting, fast shooting, smoke bomb throwing, twin sword swinging Necromunda monster.
Then he rolled double 1 on a 'sneak through the zombie tower' custom game.
It was only 5 years on. I'm not bitter.

LIES.
also, fantastic looking army. Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing that blob of yellow turn into a hideously well-painted tank.
106575
Post by: Denny
Thank you. I'm not quite sure where to start with the blob tank, but I'm hopeful it will come together if i throw on enough washes.
I've just come back from attending my first Black Library Weekender and had a great time. People were super nice and I'll hopefully be back there at some point. In my absence my models have failed to spontaneous paint themselves. I mean, the tray was right next to them. I'm just saying.
Is it worth adding green slime to their awkward misshapen bases? I hope so.
I'm also tweaking a slightly more substantial fellow who may be peeking into the picture.
106575
Post by: Denny
I'm done. Well I say that, but 50 zombies is just 10 short of being three units of 20 . . .
Squad 1: Skull base
I find my zombie hordes clump together and once casualties start pouring in its sometimes hard to tell which zombie belongs to which unit.
Squad 2: Dead Grass
See above. I do quite like the skulls on bases though and may go back and add some to a few Death Guard marines.
Squad 3: Too Much Slime
Did I mention the bases were a pain? The mantic zombie kit is great, but getting their feet on a standard base is tricky.
This is the 10 man unit. It would probably work just sitting back on an objective or something, but I still have some zombie models floating around. At some point I'll maybe add another 10.

Thanks guys; I do love zombies (I have 50 old skool fantasy square basers somewhere) but there is a point where it just starts to drive you mad.
So Plague Zombies (or Poxwalkers as they are now known) need a bit of Typhus love. I already had a converted counts-as Typhus for my 6th edition Renegade army. Fluff was this chap was a Death Company Terminator Chaplin who got the zombie bug and . . . went a bit nosferatu.
Yes that is a super goofy ghoul head. But its my goofy space vampire zombie dangit!
I figured I needed a new model that fitted the Death Guard range better. I decided to keep the scythe but start over.
He's not quite there yet. Needs something on top to balance the model.
Automatically Appended Next Post:
My Daemon Prince. I painted this guy a while back, but I've tied a couple of things up and repainted his base to match the Death Guard.
The lack of wings is annoying (unless he floats about with gas filled back sacks?). I'm gonna run him with a Sword and Plague Spewer (counts-as: vomit!)
This guy doesn't actually form part of my 3000 list but I'm sure he'll sneak into a few games. If nothing else I have a model for when I roll at 12 on the Chaos Boon table.
Model is from Creature Caster. I participated in their Kickstarter and actually have three other counts-as Greater Daemons somewhere. This chap was intended to be a Great Unclean One (and was during 7th edition), but given the size of the new model he is no longer quite large enough.

Post by: Yorkright
That demon prince just about made me jump out of my chair when I saw it. You have really did a great job painting him, if you are worried about him flying, just ask your opponent. Not to many people I know would give you a hard time about it not having wings as long as they knew it. Personally him floating around cause he is full of Gas would seem appropriate.
106575
Post by: Denny
Thanks guys; very pleased with the Daemon Prince right up until I knocked him off the table and chipped/broke him.
Should be fixable, but currently I am in bed having been blessed by the Great Plague Father himself. I can only be thankful for the dripping a snot and rattling cough. I am not certain how being bed ridden helps me finish the army, but who am I to question Lord Nurgle? Perhaps he wants me to keep samples in Petri dishes so I can use them as reference for colour schemes?
Also Chapter Approved Rumours seem to be suggesting a lot of points drops. My 3000 list might need to work...

Been a while since I've posted; been super busy (as I'm sure we all are). It feels a little weird painting Nurgle stuff given the current pandemic situation.

Still feels weird painting Nurgle given real world stuff.
But nevertheless some progress:
These chaps are basically done. I might take a better non-camera phone photo at some point. I can't decide if I want to lose the files/smoke backpack. Its a very clever piece of kit but I doubt I will do it justice, and it makes him a bit less imposing/menacing IMO. Thoughts?

Thanks. There is a better picture of the Daemon Prince on page 1. Rally proud of it; probably the best big model I have painted.
I have three other of the Creature Caster Daemons somewhere (invested in the Kickstarter back before I had a kid and free time suddenly changed significantly)....
Boss Salvage wrote:Also I lolled at accidentally adding triple buttholes to your daemon engine. Such is the life of a dark mech
The question I'm struggling with it whether I add some greenstuff seepage... probably a bad idea.
Some (very) WIP.
As far as I can tell this Land Raider was assembled using chopsticks at night by someone who was at least slightly on fire*. It is wonky in all sorts of ways (not helped by me cutting and adding some tank tracks from another kit). Luckily I'm playing Death Guard and can hopefully play into its ramshackle nature. At least I have found some ways of attaching weapons as this bit of the kit was missing.
* In fairness is was an eBay purchase from a man who basically said 'My son has moved out and left a bunch of broken junk he refuses to pick up. Please take it'.

I have been suffering with an horrendous cold ( just a cold mind you; I've already had my brush with Corona and have no desire to repeat it!).
While I appreciate Grandfather's blessings it does cut into painting time, though I suppose I have coughed up some inspirational shades of yellow.
Anyway I have three models left to complete that sweet sweet brigade detachment (though with the changes to 9th edition I guess they are no longer a requirement, but screw it I'm finishing!)
I am running low on steam though (virus aside). I don't find tanks as fun to paint as troops and these fellows are damn fiddly (my fault for stupid levels of green stuff). My painting tends to come in surges and I probably need to move on to a new project (Blood Bowl Elves...), but I want to finish these damn things!
Anyway, 'Scuttles' is coming along a little; went for dirty phlegm yellow for the legs :
Oh and, at the risk of shameless self-promotion, Necromunda: Uprising is up for pre-order and features a novella and short story written by yours truly. No Nurgle-ness I'm afraid, but a fair amount of despair and dread to savour.

Impulsively decided that this tank also needed an eye and teeth. Then realised I'd already added an eye higher up. This tank was so incomplete I had to cut chunks of random kits to plug the gaps.

Heh, honestly don't have many (I'm pretty rough with my greenstuff-ing). Thank you for your kind words though.
I guess my main advice is, if your going to possess a tank or something make sure you cut into the hull, rather than just sculpting on top of it. It makes it seem more like flesh is oozing out.
Also I tend to get better results when I add a layer, let it dry, and come back to it. Don't try and do too much at once, and focus on getting a good shape before adding details.

Chuckles
I think I started this guy about 6 years ago?
Was intending it to be a Vindicator for my Renegades army, but time makes fools of us all.
Skuttles
Thanks Tom for all the legs. Really happy how it came together in the end.
I keep wondering if I should have turned it into a Defiler, but I think Plague Burster Crawler is easier (look at it crawl!)
Grumbles
Once again, cannot over empahsise how much of a bodge this build is (look carefully and note the lack of right angles).
No wonder the poor sod looks so miserable.
I'm really pleased with it though; at one point I thought it was too bust to be anything but battlefield debris, so it's nice it got to be an actual tank.

So I found some more Plague Marines...
Figured a couple of Blight Launchers is always a good idea. One's a duplicate, but I figure they will be in separate squads so my OCD can probably cope.
I then had a go at converting some missing Elite units.
Biologus Putfifier
Needs a bit more green stuff here and there. Wish I had more grenades...
Foul Blightspawn
Technically his gun doesn't have a trigger, but I figure he just clenches his spleen.
Plague Surgeon
As an experiment I thought I would keep him a little cleaner than most. By Nurgle's whim the good doctor is unusually resistant to catching the plagues, a tragic condition he stoically endures.

Happy New Year.
Was hoping to have finished these guys by the end of the year, because it might be nice to consign Nurgle to 2020.
But, sadly, it looks like our Grandfather's presence will persist for a few more months at least...

He comes along really nicely.
Can i ask you how you got that white on the PA?
106575
Post by: Denny
Inconsistently.
Usually I shade down rather than highlight up. So I base coat white, add a layer of bleached bone, then mix that with more white and highlight that up.
I then use brown/black washes to tone it down (focussing the recesses for the darker shades), and then play around with highlights/shades and glazes until I am happy with the result (or give up because life is too short). I don't really have a set recipe, and some models are brighter/darker/greener etc. Luckily with Death Guard that really doesn't matter.

Good job i'd say.
I gave into my insidious self doubts and (slightly) trimmed the tip...
Dysartes wrote:Nice mix on the new guys, Denny. Why you say you're putting a Hellbrute together from bits, how much is from a Hellbrute kit, and how much is random bits from the bits box?
I got the 'shell' of it from eBay, but no weapons or heads (or all of the armour plates). But I found an imperial missile launcher and a couple of lascannons (might be from a guard tank?). Pics below; its not going to be a fancy conversion)
Ragsta wrote:Gloriously disgusting, I particularly like the brilliant work on the vehicle pool. Well done, mate.
Thanks. Yeah, Skuttles is probably my favourite. I think it might be the most ambitious conversion I've ever attempted (at least in terms of scale; its not like its subtle or smooth...)
Minor Update; working on the helbrute.

It now occurs to me I need to find a base...
(I like your use of Nurglings BTW; I should add a few to things)
Apologies for going off topic, but I got something I'm pretty proud of in the post:
Black Library Debut Novel: Fire Made Flesh

I still can't get any white spray paint though, so overall the day has been mixed.

Nice cover - I'm working my way through the Uprising anthology at the moment.
I think I prefer most of the loose Nurglings as a way to add a Nurgle theme to "generic" units for the Death Guard, rather than adding them to Nurglings/Plaguebearers - admittedly, some of the ones with Plague Marines are a bit too iconic to leave off, like Sassy Nurgling with a Helmet

Thanks. I'm really pleased with him; first and only top hat I have ever sculpted.
His success has been mixed. He has led The Mighty Maggotlords to one a single Blood Bowl season where they were dominant... until we had to abandon it due to Covid restrictions.
Grandfather Nurgle works in mysterious ways.
Mutant Modifier wrote:Very cool stuff! Especially enjoying that Rotspawn & all the tanks.
Thanks. I built and painted the Rotspawn before I even began the GUO. Nothing more satisfying than a Blood Bowl Big Guy made from bits.
RobertsMinis wrote:The BloodBowl team is amazing. Love it!
Pretty much all I have played for the last three years is Blood Bowl. I don't have masses of free time for games, but can easily squeeze in an evening's Blood Bowl. At some point I'll take some picks of my Chaos Renegades Team: 'The Evil B******s'.
Pretty Boring Update: blocking out the colours
I've struggled to get motivated recently, but I really want to paint Cursed City, which means I need to clear my desk. These guys should be pretty quick actually; I've none enough now that I know the shortcuts. But I think I will spend a bit longer on the Lord and Helbrute.
Morty is assembled and undercoated... and might go in a box for a while...

Further uninspired update: Brown wash fixes all
(This is the point I start painting models in groups of one or two, and make more of an attempt to aim the paint.)
Also dug out some old Nurglings (and I mean OLD; these guys were part of my Daemon army in 5th edition). I've manged to pick up a bunch more and am trying to work out how best to paint them to match the, for want of a better word, 'style' of my earlier work.
Currently they look like fruit pastilles....

Thanks man. The new Nurglings are great but I love those old models (where half of them just look miserable as hell)
Minor Update: Couple of marines are nearly done.
The guy on the left is the least inspired posing ever. He really reminds me of the old mono-build plastic plague marines. The older dud is holding a plasma gun in his tentacles, which seems a terrible idea, but there you go.

Fruit Pastel Nurglings are awesome! I did mine like Skittles, all the colours of the rainbow!
Plague Marines look great, and if I had tentacles I would hold my plasma pistol in them... more chance of them growing back than an arm
Looking forward to seeing the rest painted.

Thanks. Can't say it was planned exactly. Initially I tried to stick a generic space marine helmet in the mouth, but it fell out and is now stuck inside the torso somewhere.
So I did the tongue instead. He still rattles, so the head is in there somewhere...
Not Online!!! wrote:I just love the scheme.. Fits perfectly
Thanks! I like my Death Guard to still have the same colours from their loyalist days, just rotted and corroded (rather than repainted).
I'm currently flirting between these models, disapplying an appalling lack of discipline. But, given that I'm mainly painting them as a way of procrastinating from starting Morty, that makes sense.
Bit more progress on my new Chaos Lord.
Keep thinking a Bale Sword and Power Fist is overkill, and he'd be better with just a combi-bolter... but there is something nice and 2nd edition about the sword/fist combo.

Suspect this guy will need some tidying up, but for now I'm calling him done.
Pleased overall as, just like the landraider, I wasn't sure he was going to come together. Finding a couple of old lascannons in the bits box was super helpful.

Post by: Denny
Oh I’m not unhappy, but partway through converting I was thinking ‘Have i just screwed this guy up? Is he just a complete mess?’
Same with painting. There is almost always a point where I think I have messed it up, but it came through.
In terms of tidying, there are just a few spots that’s could be neater. But I might just not bother; Nurgle don’t need neatness, and sometimes I overwork stuff and regret it.

Procrastination!
Speeding up! But going slower!
(Sung to the tune of 'Acceleration', a song featured in 'Blaze and the Monster Machines; I have a kid OK!)
So... I have a whole bunch of almost finished Death Guard on my desk. Therefore I decided to assemble the entire contents of Cursed City.
Except this guy. I somehow lost his &*^%ing head. Any vampire based replacements I tried to find were far to big, but it turned out a old Eldar head is a pretty good match.
(I remember at the time thinking this head was unusually gaunt and creepy, even for an Eldar)
I've also started building another Rhino I found in the bits box. This one was part of the same eBay haul as the Landraider. I assume the original owner was going for Dark Angel green?
Just trying to figure out how to build a Havok Launcher, and lamenting the fact I gave a friend almost all my spare rocket/missile launchers for an ork project.
... Where's Morty you ask?

Those old Plague Marines served me well. Here is their colleague, my old Zombie Dread. Still blunders around with my renegade force trying to munch stuff. Y'know, when I can actually play...
Also I have finished my procrastinating models. Quite pleased to have knocked out a Helbrute, six Plague Marines, a new Chaos Lord, AND fixed a few illegal loadouts. Just shows what you can do when you are trying to avoid doing something else. I'll take some decent photos at some point, but currently I have the in-laws staying (yay lockdown ending... I think...) so that might take a while.
So... started this chap...
Suspect he will take a long time.

Well, I have my first game of 9th booked in (thanks pandemic!). No idea how to play this version, and its really weird having a painted 3500+ army to choose from (usually I paint 1000K, play a game, go from there)
I realise I have a few models I didn't take final pics of. So:
Chaos Lord with redundant weapons
Plague Surgeon
Biologus Putrifier
Foul Blightspawn
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Finished the Rhino; now I got two!
'Proper' Hellbrute pic
Chaos Sorcerer in Terminator Armour
This chap was once my Chaos Lord. minor conversion; I dropped the combi-plasma (now illegal) and gave him a fancy Force Spear.
I also reorganised the Plague Marine units (previous builds are now illegal)
Shooty Squad (double Plasma/Blight Launcher)
Combat Squad
'Other' Squad
These guys can be subbed in to the other squads, or act a small squad to be transported with characters.
106575
Post by: Denny
Forgot to upload them, but manged an actual game of 40K! Its been a while due to the pandemic. In fact, I have never played 9th before.
Orks vs Deathguard. (2000 points)
I went with a bit of everything (well, not everything, but plenty of marines)
The orks include some interesting conversions, including a pretty enormous counts-as Battlewagon (which should probably be a Stomper in future)
Massive as it was, it didn't stand up well to a Daemon Prince. Victory!

New Year. New... something.
So I have a bunch of projects on the go. I have Morty to finish (which is going to be a while as I am super burned out on Death Guard). I have some old armies to renovate, Hero Quest to start, and three more Creature Caster Greater Daemons.
Plus Necromunda. And a Blood Bowl Team I should really finish.
But I'm not doing any of that. Instead I'm doing some undead.
I love vampires, zombies and anything gothic, and even had a Vampire army back in the day. But it was not well painted and had too many of the old zombies with the giant hands (many of who's vivid skin tone suggesting mutagenic venom as their cause of death).
So I have decided to do a new Soulblight army this year. I already got Cursed City (another incomplete project), so that will be the basis.
So to start we shall have The Wolf
Gave him some hair and a different sword. Debating adding some bats because bats are awesome.

Loving your death guard, very inspiring as I start my Mk2 Death Guard army.
I like that you went with dirty white rather than green. The white offers a lot more opportunities for corruption IMHO.
106575
Post by: Denny
Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll: Thanks. I do like his hat, but wanted him to look a little more feral and 'classic' Dracula
Kid_Kyoto Thanks! I prefer my Death Guard in white. It helps show up the stains.
(Plus I can never imagine them actively repainting their armour after the fall; seem more likely to me any colour changes would be a result of corruption/infection)
A little bit of WIP. I have built 40 zombies. Now begins the laborious task of applying paint to them. I have painted a fair number of zomibes in my time (100+?), so I have decided not to have a plan and just see what happens.

Oooh, these are some super interesting conversions, the necromancer looks amazing! Also interesting to see how the rather funny new zombie sculpts (which I really don't mind, it's part of their charm) turn proper grimdark once sufficiently soaked in blood!
121268
Post by: Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll
Doing the vampire and the zombie dragon separately on the base is very clever actually! If you magnetize them and have separate bases as well, you could run them together, just one, or both as separate units. Plus that set-up is a gorgeous little diorama.
106575
Post by: Denny
MobileSuitRandom Thanks! The blood covers a multitude of painting sins.
Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll Funny you should mention magnets . . .
Vampires gotta have rats. (Seriously, IMO the scene between Renfield and the swarm of rats is one of the most chilling bits in Dracula).
Still needs some work, but you can see the idea.
Eventual Flesh eater version. Figures I should do it now or it would annoy me later. I need to add more to the shield base to make it a similar size to the vamps.
This one needs the most work. Its a wee slanted at the moment.

I was sorting out my display cupboard and stumbled across this chap.
I got him from a Hersey Miniatures Kickstarter. I had planned to use him as Be'lakor (way before he got a new model; this is going back to 7th edition). However I never liked the base and felt the paint job lacked something.
I'm not sure I'll get my Daemon army organised any time soon, so I wondering if I should add him to the vampires? Possibly could be a counts as Nagash, assuming he's some ancient vampire who has ascended to near demi-god status? Would need to sort his base out and neaten a few bits. I think the snow might work well with the dark colour scheme.
Still not sure, but I do love the model and would live to find a place for it somewhere.

Been busy. Went on holiday. Got covid again. Etc.
Anyway, I decided I've put off starting the dragon too long. Not that I've actually painted any dragon yet, but I've put some work in on the base.
Like where this is going so far... not sure how heavy to go with the snow.
Also...I didn't like the vampire. Just didn't mess with the feral theme of the others. So I've converted a new one. I think she fits much better thematically.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Today was unusually productive.
In the end I decided against the magnets; there was too much risk of breakage.

Thanks! I think the skeletons are going OK. I love the new models, but I do miss the old unarmoured skeletons (they were SO quick to paint).
WIP
I feel like the yellow should be dirtier, but I quite like it bright and worry it will quickly turn brown. I might experiment with a couple; they don't have to be too uniform.
Styrofoam04 wrote:I really love the dragon. especially the close up of the head. The colours of the bone are amazing. its not just brown and bone colour. whats your secret ??
Thanks!
I very roughly dry brushe the bone it up to near white (the skin was dark purple drybrush up to a bright pink edged white). I then dirty it down with various washes. Some are uniform (think brown all over, black on the skin etc). But I then go back a paint it in sections (wing, head etc) and add all sorts of shades in patches, either blending them or spotting them). I then have to clan bits up etc; its quite a back and forth process (until I lose the will to live).
(so with the skull there are purple shades at the snout, browns round the eyes, little green. I also use Blood for the Blood God and Nurgle green in spots (gives the bone a nice rancid edge)
I think I want to photo the dragon again. Its tricky to do and I could only find a blue backdrop last time, which doesn't look right.
Gwyn chan 'r Gwyll wrote:That bleached white bone look is fantastic, very well done!

So my only remaining model is the mounted vamp. I had some trouble with his bats (i.e. I clumsily snapped them off).
I've repositioned them and added some more and they are a little more stable. Plus more bats is always good.
REALLY struggling to decide on colour schemes. The bats should be black, and I feel the horse should be too (a shadow rather than a ghost).
But is that too much black?
Plus, what colour for the armour? I never get red (or black) armour to look good.
Indecision is why I have started by painting the base.
Here's another picture of the model. For scale, I've included a book which may be coming out from the Black Library fairly soon.
Just for scale mind you. Not because I'm shamelessly shilling.

Thanks! Its been an interesting challenge; sometimes less bats is better. I was of two minds when I started, as I didn't want to 'ruin' my Cursed City set, but its pretty unlikely I'm ever going to play that as a game (sadly). I think its the little critters that make this army.
I do have a couple more vampire models (plus the heroes from Cursed City) that I could add, but I also feel like a change. The question is whether I finish my half completed Chaos Renegades army, start the mammoth task of painting HERO QUEST, or finish the Elf Union Blood Bowl Team.
Is it weird that the latter option fills me with the most dread? Man I hate painting elves.

Cool stuff Denny. I really like the diorama with the rats.
Not too keen on the aesthetics of the new delaque gang (kinda love the old bald biker dudes) but I'm really curious where you'll take them.

For a minute I thought the Delaque were painted in some sort of noir all grey scheme...

Interested to see where you go with the Delaque, are the weapons from the upgrade sprue?
I have a box of these guys but they only seem to have (except for a sniper rifle) one handed weapons, which is a bummer as my old Necromunda gang used to be Delaque with loads of shotguns...

I always loved the fluff for Delaque, but I wasn't entirely happy with the original models. Felt they were just a bit too chunky. So about ten years back I bought ended up getting a gang from Hersey Miniatures.
(Note I did not paint these; mine are painted really badly, though I still love them. You can buy these at: https://heresyminiatures.com)
The new ones are a bit of a style change. I like them, but I'd prefer greater variance in poses

It would be cool if I could pull it off...
Guardling wrote:Interested to see where you go with the Delaque, are the weapons from the upgrade sprue?
Yeah. It gives you some two handed options for weapons, which I think improves the looks of the models significantly. No additional shotguns though.

Shame, but I have a knife and styrene rod, even if it's against the sneaky sneaky Delaque are supposed to be

Indeed! I wasn't sure whether to give her a psychic power, but the creepy dress calls for it IMO.
More work in progress; a Nact Gul with counts as Serpent Talons (AKA; long creepy fingers)

Thanks! I'm glad the conversion worked as I've had it in mind for a while.
Having said that I've become distracted by Halloween and ended up painting more of the Undead.
This guy is pretty close to done. Love this model, though I'm less fond of the basic ghouls. Still I do have a few sprues and might paint him up a little entourage.

.... anyway...
Been a busy few months. Got a puppy. Started writing something. Did very little painting.
But I've made a little progress on the Delaque. Decided to embrace a simple, almost monochrome colour scheme.

Thanks. TBH I'd like to go back to the vamps. Couple of tweaks I'd like to make (and a couple of models to paint), but I'm going to finish the Delaque first.

Thanks. Someone mentioned it on the other page and I thought 'Hell with it. They should be all in black/grey anyway.

Thanks! I'm not totally happy with the zombie dragon. The dragon is great, but the vamp doesn't quite fit. I'm debating changing her, but i don't want to screw it up...

So I have a lot of the old skool (some *very* old) Chaos Space Marine Renegades.
I also ended up with a set of the monopose Chaos Marines (and two from Blackstone Fortress. So I've decided to use these as my Champions as they will be a bit beefier. The squads will then be filled out by whatever Renegades I have/can build. Only bits box permitted mind; this is a 'use up stuff' project.
Havoks/Raptors
I gave the Havok champs minimal equipment and helmets with oversized eye lenses. I really like the plague marine helmet on the raptor champ too; has a nice goggles vibe.
I wanted these champs to have a leaning towards each of the greater powers, but more like they have been marked than are actively seeking patronage. They need some greenstuff work.
Generic Undivided Champs, one with a Space Wolves vibe. The former has two pistols which triggers my OCD, but I justify it because he can't fire the bolt pistol anyway.
... STOP JUDGING ME!!!
Ahem.
Chosen Champ.
I was low on heads so here he is.
Exalted Champion.

Thanks! There is something very therapeutic about it. Got big plans in that direction, but currently I'm moving at a glacial pace. Too much on at the moment.
gobert wrote:Nice work on the renegades, having the beefier guys be the leaders makes sense to me
Thanks. On that note one more dude: a Chaos Lord. No idea if his equipment loadout is even legal in 10th, but this army is not going to worry about stuff like that. Rule of cool trumps other concerns.
Plus who needs a gun when you can do double melee?

Thanks! TBH I had limited heads left, but I think it works OK.
So this is what I have made:
As you can see a bunch are already painted... and a bunch left to paint. I have no idea when I'll start these mind, but its nice to have sorted this project (and perhaps more importantly put on a cap on it; I don't see myself making any more models.
Except one.
WIP: going to try using up my leftover bits to make... something...

Had to reposition the leg a little, but I'm liking where this is going.

Thank you. I'm pretty pleased with hin, but have no idea how to paint him.
Thanks! Ultimately I decided I liked the 10th edition rules for the non-winged version. Plus I couldn't find a pair I liked.
Pretty pleased overall. He's rough as hell, but that's my "style". Or something.
I wanted him to be a bit cyber daemon so he has a part sentinel leg and a tendril tail. Plus some other bits (you can see the shoulder pad of the unfortunate possessed marine who has been taken over). I didn't want to favour any particular god, though I like to think he has aspects of all 4.

Thanks! Yeah I'm not sure exactly; my Chaos Space marines are painted a (very inconsistent) red, so bits of the armour will probably be red. I guess greying shin, plenty of blood, some rusted metal, and shamelessselfplug a few details to taste.
But in reality it will probably sit in a drawer for a while.

Thanks! I'm really pleased with him, even though he turned out quite different from what I originally envisioned. Can't really go wrong with Chaos.
I am currently on downtime from writing, and managed to actually get in a game of 10th.
It did not go well.
This was my merry band who cunningly allowed themselves to be devoured by a swarm of 'Nids as part of a plan to something something Nurgle
something.
Anyway, I was digging through my bitzbox and found some parts to make a Lord of Virulence.

... so its been a while.
It turns out getting a puppy takes up a significant amount of painting time. She's a lovely dog mind (though she is currently in her first heat which is... challenging...)
So I have done little. But I did paint that plague dude.
He also led my forces to victory in a rematch.
That aside, I decided I want to change my zombie dragon 'rider'. The colours just blended too much into the base, and the model was never quite right. So I've ripped it off (gulp!) and tried again:
Like the pose. Now just to paint it....
I also built some stuff I had lying around.
Yes that is a big banner pole and no, I have no idea what I will do with it.

Used contrast paints. Quite like the results. Why do I paint so many models red when I hate painting red?
That said, I do think it pops much better against the grey rock. Pose is pretty sweet too.
