The Great”ish” Hobby Clean up

So I’ve reached peak pile of shame!



I think Ive devised a realistic plan to try to reduce it. No actual picture as I don’t have a lens wide enough.

I know I wont be able to just not buy anything so a blanket no buy policy won’t work.
I know that painting to a deadline or target also helps (getting minis ready for D&D and da red gobo for Christmas etc)

So I’m going to put myself to the following rule;
I can only buy a new mini if I’ve earned it by tackling the pile of shame, Using the below scoring system.

This is my character for Adventure League a Hexblade paladin, personality is a bro trying to be an edgelord and failing.



White hair because I watched a lot of the witcher and there was just too much black on the mini with black hair too.

Hill Giant



DND group are going to do Storm kings thunder soon which means giants are needed.
Saw this 3D print on Etsy and needed to get him.





Last pic is a size comparison against the only official hill giant I have.

Great paintjobs here. Love the paladin and the pilot looks really crisp as well.

I had to look twice at the second hill giant's belly though. Interesting curves going on there

on the colour of the storm giants armour, worked on the red for some of the sisters and got all but the posters done on the Steam punk advertising boards I built last week

Recipe is Mephiston red, nun oil wash, mephiston red on raised/ flat areas, wild rider red on sharp edges and big folds in fabric

Happy with how he’s come out but don’t think the edge highlights are coming through very well in the pics

Worm looking great, and so is the primaris. Great progress made, and I really love this idea.

I too am planning to make a decent dent in the grey pile of shame in 2020, and something like this could really work

Sgt Jones looks great! Serious attention to detail in painting the Union Flag on his shoulder pad. You even got the red saltire orientation right, kudos!

My first Dwarf, again from Mantic Games Dungeon Saga.

Everything is looking great mate. I think I may follow in your footsteps for the ability to curb my spending.

Those fireforge minis look great! I'm going to be painting a few myself shortly going for red padded armour.

Keep up the lovely minis.

Love how your ultra primaris look. I can't put my finger on it, but they look so much grittier than I am used to, and not 'cartoony' at all!

Set myself a challenge this week to earn 30 point on my hobby clean Up system so I could order sister Tariana. (I have the points saved up to order her anyway but I do like a challenge)

Human Barbarian/fighter waiting for a future campaign to be played in
Favourite hero from Dungeon saga, good details and works in the PVC.
Put in the extra time in on him and v happy with how he’s come out.

Finished some Private security troops for Mantic’s Star Saga and general sci fi shenanigans.




Painted one of the Guards with genestealer Cult skin as a tiny easter egg

I approve of a chaos Minotaur marine . It just seems right, the bad rep that Minotaurs have in fantasy should make them chaos marines and not the High Lords of Terras gestopo.

Sister Doralys has taken armour of faith a little too literally or she’s a bit tapped .

Great looking car, kind of looks like a skull from the front angle, so totally 40k . Would also fit in a pulp genre game nicely as a bad guy get away car.

The car looks neat, and seems to be a pretty good match scale wise for Janus. Another great haul of minis for the week too

I'm glad I found this thread today. The point system is very useful. I will have to give it a try. Your painting skills are great. The guardsman has a lot of character.

Hobby Hoard Clearance 12 week review

In the last 12 weeks I’ve built 97 minis, finished 29 and only bought 2 new minis.





12 weeks in and the system seems to be working

But some tweaks are needed to keep me going/ build some “healthier” hobby habits, I’ve made the below changes to the “plan”

I like your system. Personally I've built more models in less time (not to brag, but I'm very proud of the 400 some odd models I've built in the last 8 weeks), but none of mine are even primed. You've actually gotten stuff painted and finished (and I can't seem to stop myself from buying more minis all the time). I think I might have to adopt this method. Thanks for posting it.

The Douche canoe in 40k, Governor Drumpf is “the bestest Governor ever to Govern the imperium” he tells anyone unfortunate to be in earshot.

Took ages the finish these Intercessors think I need to find a method to get through batch painting minis really struggle.

Used Macragge blue on these guys and i prefer it to the old ultramarines blue so now I’m going to have to repaint my marines

Been a productive week
Ordered Fabius Bile and the deadly Alliance expansion they came on 22/06/20 so I’ve got until the 22nd of July to get a partial refund on points for them.


Got some 40k billboards finished (posting again as new page )




and had a build week.
Wanted to get my new minis built and all my genestealer cult ready. got all bar 2 of the Genestealer cult minis I own built (couldn’t decide if I wanted another Webber an quake cannon)

Week 22

Managed to get Fabius Bile built and painted within a month of purchasing him.

Too much procrastination means that the Zoat wasn’t finished in time.

Also got a test mini for my Necrons finished, was aiming for a darker more ghosty take on the classic chrome terminator look.

Shame you are on negative points, but you’re right that Indomitus was too good to pass up! The Test-cron really looks great! The dark metals look really brooding and contrast great with the glowing green bit. More ideas for what I’d like to do with mine!

Week 24 - Xenomorphs & Scarabs

This week i finished 12 Xenomorphs warriors



and 6 Necron scarab bois




Also I Built the Doom scythe including a canopy (just don’t like the look of the pilot normally)



And while i had some green stuff going i added some straps to my hero forge D&D character so he didn’t have a floating quiver.



Next milestone of 26 weeks on plan coming in 2 weeks at which point ill post another roundup

Ta dude, Just for display at the moment (Prodos left a sour taste so won’t play the game) planning on doing a fan dex for 40k 9th Ed and chuckin* them into some RPGs

Necrons are looking great, and cracking pace (even with the purchase of Indomitus)!

I love that canopy on the Scythes. I got the same canopy for mine, and in my dreams if I ever get the Forgeworld bomber it fits so much better.

Quite a lot to do this week to hit my goals for week 26

Great execution of the classic Necron scheme, those glow effects are really sweet! The green molten bit on the skull on the Warden's base is a cool detail.

Great color scheme, the highlights really makes the difference and the glowing rip cages are ace!

Great paint jobs! Also I love the points system, I will be shamelessly stealing that if you don't mind? My hobby backlog has similarly gotten out of hand...

Week 26 final week

Half a year on plan so going to give it a break for a while

Looking at the pile of completed minis i think its worked but ill do a full roundup when i get a chance this week

This week i built a bunch of minis (that I’ve forgotten to take a pic of)

and got Janus Draik Finished






By far my favourite character from Blackstone Fortress, was hoping to get Amallyn finished for the end of the project too but just ran out of time to paint all the gems

Great job on the croissant! The canopy is a really great addition. I’m looking forward to starting my own Necrons, the new warriors have a great shambling look to them. The green glow on their eyes has been well done too.

The adventurers were a beat weak sculptwise, compared to the enemies, imho at least. That said, you’ve done a nice job on Draik, lots of cool details.

Enjoy the break and hope to see some more minis at some point from you!
