Heya! I'm a real big fan of old minis and have acquired and painted a bunch these last few years. Gonna be posting some old and new stuff i've done over time here.
This guy is from the citadel adventurers line from around 82-84. I honestly got this guy as a throw away from another lot but ended up really liking him.
Did this batch of old gobbos a bit back, I have a pile of them I need to finish but probably after summer ends lol. Expect more vintage lead in the future!

I've got some stuff in the pipeline but because of the damned heat I'm still waiting for an opportune time to paint more.
Here is some more of my old stuff I did a bit back to fill the void. I also need to learn to take better pictures but oh well lol. Thanks for stopping by!

Managed to get something painted today! A humble hobbit from the ole Asgard Fantasy line
And here he is against an orc from the same line
I think these were released around 1983-84? The original sculpts that is. These guys are modern recasts from the viking forge which I am thankful alot for lol.
Gonna finally cool down a bit next week so I can start painting more. Thanks again for stopping by!

He doesn't look that hard to paint put all the under stuff is a nightmare especially the damned studs! Need to find a way to streamline it because I plan on doing like 14 more for a future endeavor...

Guess whose back?
Not much got done this week but I did paint this dawi last night. From the good ole "C" series citadel range.
Here he is with his brother an arms, a prototype thunderer from the asgard range. I swear these photos look better on my phone but oh well. I'll fix the weird fish eye one day...
I'm hoping to get a some more done by friday but for now thanks for visiting!

So believe it or not I am almost done with vintage AD&D party version 2.0
This is either fiend factory or fantasy tribes but it is their White Wizard aka not Gandalf. I was gonna paint him white but then I figured yellow would be more retro.
And here's a lizard man I did a bit back, don't quite remember what line he was from though unless it was a C series figure. I'm in the home stretch as I got one more party member to finish who I am really excited to tackle lol.
Later this week I'll be painting a Bryan Ansell special though so look forward to that too...

What a fun and expressive lizard man!
133347
Post by: bong264
Alright, that ends this portion of the project. Behold!
1979 Fiend Factory: The Fiend, sculpted by Bryan Ansell himself! This thing is hideous but in an endearing way.
And here is the party taking on the beast. This was a fun little project practicing integrating pre-slottas into bases. The Fiend especially making those stalagmites which was surprisingly hard lol.
I've got two more minis after this and then I'll have to prep more for the page. Thanks for stopping by!

Great stuff. Love the lizardman especially. There's so much charm in these old models. The fiend is really cool! Nice work. Looking forward to the next part of your project.

Another heat wave this week so no painting for me sadly. Have some orcs to fill the void in the meantime though!
Some classic C series orcs, I really love these guys and wish I could find more but that well is pretty dry here in the states.
The dumb look on this lad always gets me lol. Like he's perpetually blazed on waaaagggghhh
It'll supposedly cool down next week here so I can get to work on something sci fi related... Thanks for stopping by!

I'm back! still hot but I powered through it. With Starfield on the horizon I am in the space mood. I've had these guys primed for awhile and finally painted em up quick.
First up is Johnny Spacer, astronaut supreme lol. I'm guessing these are from the early 84 Asgard line, possibly 83?
Next up is Captain Dunbar in full battle dress. If I ever decide to commit to Traveller I'm definitely painting more of these. If they seem familiar it's because Alternative Armies still has the mold for these guys luckily!
Bryan Ansell made two size variants and I have both 25mm and 15mm. They look adorable together lol. I really should get back to the giant pile of Laserburn stuff I got...
Hopefully I get back to the poor Tom Meier mini i've been neglecting, thanks again!
133347
Post by: bong264
I'm just gonna shut up about the heat lol. Everytime I mention it summers length extends. Heres some original WHFRP stuff to fill the void
First up is Aldred Fellblade with custom shield I amateurishly sculpted lol.
Next up is Jules Gascoigne who I may or may not have painted up as King Graham...
I do have to ask though, what should my cutoff point be for "old lead"? These guys are late 84 and are closer to pre slotta minis than later warhammer stuff.
Khimri Giantslayer is also on my table primed but I have yet to paint him. I also gotta find Johann Zauberlich and some sorta stand in for Felix Jaeger so I can complete the party and play "The Dark Benath The World" scenario from Advanced Heroquest.
Thanks again for stopping by!

Hey i'm back! It's finally not hot anymore lol. You ever go so long without painting you get worried you'll forget how to? We'll thats me so far so i'm gonna be easing back into it starting off with this.
Another classic from the Carter era! 1979 Elf Hero sculpted by none other than Tom Meier. I've seen this guy around a lot and finally got the chance to paint one up. He's really tiny though as you'll see in upcoming projects...
Thanks for stopping by even if it's only a small update!

Hey I'm back with some more early 80s goofiness.
This lad is from the old 1983 Ral Partha Runequest line! And also at the only decent angle for this model lol. It was really hard to tell what the heck his shirt was but from all the little holes it was chainmail, apparently...
It's both Orctober and Spooktober next week so gonna be hopping on that next! thanks for visiting as well!

Post by: bong264
First post of the spook season! Starting it off right with the 40 year old chaos lad rescued from oxidization.
Straight out of the specialty box set: Skathor Skullcrasher. He has been painted in an amatuer facsimile of the Nightlords lol.
Backshot of the shield, probably the "straightest" lines I've painted so far. Henceforth this mini shall be "Konrad Von Gruseldorf, Lord of the Night!"...
Got a skelly up next but thanks for visiting!
133347
Post by: bong264
So disregard my last reply because I was in the mood for another vintage chaos warrior lol.
Athgul "The Legionnaire" Evilhand, the spearman of doom! It's been awhile since I've done colored metallics but I think it turned out alright!
I was even brave and did some minor freehand on the shield. Was gonna try to go for the hydra but thought it would look weird with the bird helmet.
The skelly is probably next but I may finally do an orc, thanks for stopping by!
133347
Post by: bong264
The first skelly of the season! Also hey I didn't lie this time about whats next lol.
From the C17 line of later skeletons. Sadly it's the only one I own/ could find around. 1987 for this guy on one of those new fangled tabs!
Dunno what I'll do next but thanks for taking a gander!
133347
Post by: bong264
So this has nothing to do with orcs or skeletons but inspiration struck so I went for it
The C28 Giants line sculpted by Alan and Michael Perry, 1983 for this lad I think? I painted up mine to be a classic fire giant. I'm not the best painter in the world but I was brave and tried alot of new things with this fella lol.
I even made the sword myself out of plasticard and greenstuff! Guess I'll go back to something smaller after this because my hands hurt from all the angles I had to hold this beast up with. Thanks for the visit!

Have a good rest of your Sporktober everyone!

Good stuffs! I browse through Stuff of Legends' citadel catalogue from time to time, always wanted to see how those really poorly developed black-and-white photos of those minis are supposed to look like. Some of them looks transparent!
I like those older Orc design, really distinct from the more cartonnish modern proportions, but I like them nonetheless. Keep it up, please

That's actually why I started this! So many vintage minis either never got a modern photograph or if they did in some compendium or old white dwarf they're super grainy or in black and white like issue 45 with the Thistlewood article. I hope one day to scrape together and paint enough
to do a 1st edition Warhammer regiment lol.

This is one of the rare photos I can find for 1st ed regiments, They usually consist of a command figure, a kitbashed flag bearer, and however many troops you bought that day heh. I also think I read somewhere that they also just cobbled a bunch of minis together and stated that they were all equipped the same but that might just be wishful thinking on my end

Alright back on the saddle again after the post Orctober hiatus
Barnaby, the Warrior of Iron... Another lad from the chaos set and unfortunately my last as of now. Tried some more free hand but it turned out crooked and non center lol.
Also I don't know why but his walking pose inspired me to do this
Feel free to do what you wish with that image heh. Thanks for stopping by! Automatically Appended Next Post:
It'll probably take me a few years to reach my goals as well! Since 1st ed Warhammer let you take battalions from each race I plan on doing some sorta triple alliance of Dwarfs, Elves, and Men of the West. 500 points each is my goal to add up to the "1500 minimum" but even then that's like 40 ish models per battalion anyways. All in due time...

Wow, some great stuff since I last checked in here. Loving the orcs... if you can get hold of the first harboth model, with his arms folded, he looks boss. Scorpion dude rocks. Alright I'm back with another classic mini!
Khârn: The World Eater... This guy is a Jes Goodwin classic from the Asgard barbarian line which I painted up as a pre-cambrian khornezerker lol.
Didn't know what to do with the shield so I may come back and repaint that later. I do got something big planned so might not be posting for awhile.
Thanks for dropping by though!

Yeah I basically live off of citadel US, Ral Partha imports, whatever molds are still alive from different manufacturers, and whatever stuff collectors/ebay sellers have I've got a decent collection so far but alot of the stuff I want seems to be uk only or atleast more easily found their.
I only ever order if it's something I really want and just accept the fact it takes like a month to show up.

I was in the space mood so I took a quick detour from my little regiment project to paint this guy up!
Mr. Waits the Space Marshall... Another classic Asgard Sci-Fi mini, this one done by Nick Bibby. I need to ask him myself if that thing on his back is another bag or a misshapen buttcheek
Tried to do the fancy eye lense thing but everytime I placed the dot it looked wrong, oh well.
May return again with another moonman but for now I return to the regiment! Thanks for stopping by!

It's been a bit hey? I'm slowly working my way through this regiment project so here's a little preview of it.
Executioner Snorri, the maybe possibly standard bearer until I find something else suitable lol. First time I've ever free handed that logo and my hats off to the space wolves players who paint hundreds of them
I'll try to pick up the pace and maybe do another vintage sci fi mini on the side but until then thanks for visiting!

Heya i'm back, with something a little festive (colors wise atleast lol)
Another Perry Twins classic, the crossbow orc. I think this lad is from the fantasy tribes line? He's got one eye that stick out and a sunken one
I've got a batch of these dudes I really should get around to prepping, oh well. Have a good holiday everyone!

New year, old mini lol. Painted up my first mini of the year and it was this lovely dawi!
Hangur Trueshot from the 1983 C06 Dwarf Adventurers line. First time I've done eyes with pupils as well, new goals for the new year! Of course said eyes were weirdly sculpted but all my early 80s dwarfs have cocked eyes
Thanks for stopping by!

Alright i'm back with another addition to the 1st ed chaos regiment.
Apollyon, Commander of the Legion of Black ( tm). Standing atop the first tactical rock ever made Mysterious "warped" stone if you will...
This guy is the 1982 captain of chaos from the fighters line, although my particular version is from the ral partha imports line. He had a really really thick tab so I kinda had to go the tactical rock route lol.
I need to scrounge around more to get to the magical number 12 for this regiment but I am glad I'm officially half way done ?

Possibly... depends on if I find the right kind of mini lol. Don't wanna chop up any vintage lead unless I happen to find one with a broken weapon in a suitable position ? I've had a go already at making a couple of paper and cocktail stick flags with mixed success

Alright I stopped being lazy and am back with another addition to the chaos regiment
Hieronymus - The Dark Summoner. This was know as the Anti-Paladin and was from the 1983 fighters line but has been repurposed for my needs lol.
I had a real hard time deciphering what was going on with the face so I did what I could. Three more and I'll technically have a full regiment according to the example lists in the 2nd ed book.

They really do have a lot of charm to them! Can't find the picture now but it's interesting seeing the old drawn advertisement of the chaos warriors and seeing how much design has carried over all the way to the most recent AoS warriors
Sad thing now is I don't have many more to add to the regiment without tapping into my imported Warriors of Chaos box...

Phew boy, it has been awhile but I've been hard at work making something for my chaos regiment...behold!
Icahn Mansor the Great Unclean One. This mini comes from the far away year of...last week I sculpted this guy because I couldn't really find a good Nurgle/Death Guard stand in for my vintage stuff.
Well, I did find this during my searches
Since it is near impossible to find early 80s citadel stuff here let alone v1 of the chaos knights, I decided to attempt my own mini. The whole thing is entirely from scratch too even though I wanted to take so many shortcuts using bits but I persisted.
Being a nurgle knight also helps lampshade my umgak sculpting skills I should be back on track to finishing up the chaos regiment pretty soon so look forward to that!
Thanks for stopping by!

Just a quickie for this week. Some leftovers from sculpting Icahn Mansor because I didn't want the putty to go to waste lol.
Some Chaos Familiars for the regiment on 15mm bases. Their only purpose is to give buffs and be meatshields I've got the rest of the regiment ready to go and am eager to end this project ?

Alright, back after the date related bug that took the site down I return with one of the final four warrior needed for the regiment.
The Glorious Sigismund! and his Sword of Decadence. This will be my Slaanesh stand in as I couldnt find a mini that would look suitable in hot pink lol.
This lad comes from the 1982 Fantasy Tribes chaos warriors. Ral Partha had a slightly modified version for the import line but the face on that was really hokey.
I had to do alot of guess work on this guy as his face was weirdly sculpted and the cape collar seemed to have bled into the lower jaw, but I think I managed.
Thanks for stopping by!

We're in the end game! Two more after this and a regiment tray to go!
Tal Hoath, Bearer of the Word... This guy is a Ral Partha lad from 1984 called "The Evil Fighter". Using him as a chaos warrior because I'm out of citadel ones lol.
This also signals the last of my traitor legion homages! No Emperor's Children because I'm not the biggest slaanesh fan.
I've got an idea for the banner and I'm hoping it turns out alright, also got a generic mook to paint up to complete the whole thing.

Ah, I guess i'm following in your footsteps then I have so many Ral Partha minis i've added to the collection these past few months and I adore every one! You can probably guess the last two RP minis I've used to finish of the regiment. I have one particular knight I'm going to use as a commander for the next project I got planned...

Yeah, Ral Partha made plenty of miniatures that look right at home with Citadel’s preslotta chaos warriors.
133347
Post by: bong264
Only got one more left...
Garin Holzhauer, Bearer of the Cackling Jokkler. I really love this sculpt! One of a two part set from 1984 called the Black Prince's guard. Those who know the set know the last guy I gotta paint...
I ran out of 40k legions to copy so this guy is painted in Sons of Horus style, the other option was just to make more black legion warriors
Pariah Press wrote:Yeah, Ral Partha made plenty of miniatures that look right at home with Citadel’s preslotta chaos warriors.
Case in point the guy above! If I ever decide to do a 3rd ed army I am definitely using as many of the 1986 chaos wars minis as I can lol.

We'll go with definitely maybe had to convert him into a standard bearer though and I'm hoping it looks alright when everything is said and done.

Post by: bong264
Welp, I finally did it, I finished the regiment! and it only took me 6 months Starting off with the standard bearer.
Wilhelm Strauss the Eye of Doom! This is the other half of the black prince's guard pack that I used for a standard bearer. He had a feather but it snapped off so a battle damaged helmet will do. just pretend the rock has the magical property to move with him lol.
I attempted the "lidless eye" as was tradition for anything evil related at least according to ye olde tabletop hero articles from early white dwarfs.
Next up is the first vintage Chaos Warrior I ever painted that inspired me to do the whole regiment,
Dar the Face of Doom. From the original C series line and probably my favorite Chaos Warrior of all time!(minus Harry of course...)
I painted this guy up last year but wasn't happy with the cloak and visor so I redid it. Unfortunately when I got him he was in a pretty sorry state so some detail has been worn off through age, but hey! that gives him character ?
And finally...
The Legion of Doom ( tm) is assembled! If you're wondering why there's a lot of wiggle room in the tray it's because I hand cut all the bases so the inside is like 105.8x79.8mm instead of 100x75mm for a 4x3 25mm tray.
This was also the best angle I could get and maybe I'll retake this picture when I learn better photography ?
I thank everyone who stopped by and joined me in my overly long journey to get 12 minis painted Either I'll be taking a break from vintage minis or I'll be doing something small instead.
Thanks for stopping by!

Just gotta do it two more times and I'll have 1/4 of the army done. It still astounds me from the book of battalions and 2nd ed
army lists that 4000 points was the "standard" points game size. Was it really back in the day or was that so Bryan Ansell and Co could sell more minis? Edit: Sorry it was 3000 points but still lol.

Welp my break is over Switching up genres though and heading to the far future...
Sergeant Krod of the...er uhm er...Omega Troopers This guy is an Imperial Space Marine from the 1984 Traveller minis series by Grenadier.
It's been forever since I've painted the ultradork scheme but remember how much I liked it lol. If these guys were about 15% bigger they'd make pretty great Gue'Vesa stand ins ?
Poor mini had a really bad mold slip but eh, I'll call it battle damage!. May return to fantasy after this or work on a little side project that is vintage adjacent.

Well I had another mini lined up but after recent events I felt the urge to paint this guy lol
The Broo Gladiator from the 1984 Runequest Monster Coliseum by Ral Partha.
Poor beasties, they've been with Warhammer from the start but always seem to get neglected lol.
I got a regiment planned out for these guys for the forces of evil army I just need to cobble enough vintage beastmen to get it done.
Thanks for stopping by and hold your beastmen minis close!

Been a bit eh? I got some more stuff prepared for friday but will just post this in the mean time. Behold!
The first skaven...In my mind atleast lol. 1982 Wererat from the Fiend Factory line sculpted by uhhhhhh, I'm gonna guess one of the perry twins ? Feel free to correct me on that!
I do wonder if Jes Goodwin had any hand in this or if it was just a coincidence. Just need about 79 more of these and I'll have a tide ready

Been kinda out of it for awhile but return with some rarities atleast in my area...
One NIght Goblin Spearman and one Night Goblin Fanatic! Recently got a hold of a couple of night gobbos from the c13 line and they are all so full of character! and lanky
If anyone has any tips on better flocking let me know so I can redo it on these lads as it kinda looks pretty lame lol.
Also Thank You RapturousRex!, I too love the grenadier marines and have more planned ?

A quick one for this week, but I did find one of my holy grails early this month and will be getting that ready for next friday. In the mean time...
The first daemon for the my 1.5/2nd ed chaos army! This lad is a 1984 Mi-Go from the Call of Cthulhu line by Grenadier. If you've seen the rest of that line you'll know what to expect lol.
Pre realms of chaos demons were pretty sparse in terms of how to get a force of em assembled so expect a bunch of random mish mashes!
Thanks for stopping by!
1st ed orcs and gobbos are some of the loveliest minis imo Still got a pile of em I gotta sort out and prep...

Got another classic for today! Been on the search for this mini and finally obtained him...
1983 C02 The Young Wizard. Fun Fact, this is like the only good angle on him Facing him head on shows his weird muppet face lol. My paint also isn't that thick the mini was just that rough!
I went looking around at other copies and every single one has the weirdest mangled hands. Wish I could find the original mold and attempt some sorta remaster ?
This is also the first time I've done a jewel i'm semi happy with Still need to practice that, maybe with the next wizard I got planned down the line.
Thanks for stopping by!

That's a great paint job on a sketchy mini. I kinda want to see his muppet face, though.

Been awhile eh? Combination of the damned heat and summer laziness has made me lethargic and the painting room uncomfortable. I persisted today though and painted this lad...
A Broo, from the 1986 Runequest line from Ral Partha. A little late for my 2nd ed army but considering how rare the citadel broo are here in the states I'm gonna have to make an exception lol.
Main bulk of the Broo regiment will probably be made up of these guys and will try to see how many different schemes I can get away with.
Thanks for stopping by and hopefully the next mini is due soon...
Also Goat Butt

Ooh, I think I have some of those guys! They're teeny-tiny, especially compared to Citadel Beastmen of the same vintage. I'm impressed that you were able to pick out the details so well.

Just read this thread and its very entertaining. Its interesting seeing these old sculpts how many ideas GW has maintained into today.
I really like the Broo minis too, would be fun (and I assume expensive) project to make a unit of pygmy beastmen.

Heya! Back again finally lol. The universe decided to line up and I got around to painting something.
Viktor Thulmann, The Witch Hunter... This fine lad is from the 1982 Fighters line. Cap'n Facebeard mentioned how GW kept alot of ideas to modern day designs and this was where my first thought went to
Here's a less flattering angle, poor guy doesnt really have any eyes only sockets but the shadow brim kinda disguises that thankfully. Also tried something different for the base, although sculpting cobblestone on a tab that thick was a pain.
I did manage to amass a pile of old lead these past few weeks and have prepared a giant batch ready to paint. If the weather and my mood cooperate I'll be able to post more frequently

Guess who? Back again with some more old gak lol.
Baron Von Spidershield from the 1982 fighters advert. A resculpt of Belmoth Blacksword from the 2nd chaos warrior box they released. Really like the look of this guy, very proto norscan ?
I shall be calling mine Albert Spinnenschild though because it sounds slightly less lazy I've got alot more chaos lads coming so stay tuned!

Alright I'm back with more guff to trot around
Num-Tim The Giant Hobgoblin Champion. This lad is from the 1983 Chaos Marauder box. For my purposes this Orctober he has been repurposed into an orc warboss
It may be a bit heretical to say but I do love this era of orc for the variety of skin tones available that aren't green. May try a classic brown orc next...
Got him in a lot with a pile of other minis and his poor axe was snapped off. Did the best I could to kitbash another one so don't look too closely at it lol.

Jeez its been a bit eh? I'm back with a relatively quick mini and my contribution to Spooktober this year lol.
1983's the Evil Fighter, or if you've been reading the latest Conan comics Thulsa Doom Tried to make the cloak have a bit of subtle texture but the face turned out how I wanted ?
I've got a big ole pile of orcs and gobbos for Orktober so look forward to that, feels good to finally paint again since it's been admittedly a few weeks...

C15 Orc bodyguard, gonna use this lad as a Lieutenant for the upcoming orc band.
Every Orctober I assemble and paint as many orcs and gobbos as I can to bolster the horde. This year it'll be all oldies ?
My first pink orc and I hope I did it right, I'll let Pariah Press judge me on that

Welp, my hands hurt from painting but it has been another successful Orctober
First up is some gobbos
1979 Fiend Factory Goblins, These lads look a bit like old dog kobolds with their jowls lol.
Here's the whole group, about 55ish points according to the 2nd ed book? Next up is the Orc group...
I passionately called this lad Bard the Bow Orc Had a broken bow I did my best to try to make a new top half and I think it turned out alright.
Next is a classic spearman orc in my attempt at brown. I actually have this lad painted in green and was one of the first old lead orcs I painted when I got into this venture!
This here is Graggle Simpson, er I mean a crossbow Orc I hope my interpretation of yellow orc turned out correct because I really like this scheme for orcs.
And lastly here is the rank and file of the orcs. Need to go back and revarnish some gloss I missed but otherwise They were quick to paint up...thankfully.
A terrible group photo to finish off the Orctober season! Been a bit since I've batch painted but I always remember how fatigued I am at the end

Alright, I've been away for a bit working on a secret project but finally painted this fine lad
Minifigs Mythical Earth Balrog from 1973. I couldn't stop calling him the cowardly lion Based him off the weird lion butterfly from the 1978 Bakshi Lord of the Rings film.
Did this lad up for the ancients painting contest but figured it fit here too lol.
Unless I'm mistaken this was the first Lion depiction of the balrog before the film ? Wonder if they got the idea from elsewhere or if Bakshi and the sculptor came up with it separately.

An old Tzaangor! Well, its a 1986 (but sculpted in 85!) Ral Partha Runequest Broo I sculpted a beak onto Although going from the big belly I thought was armor I should have made him a pestigor! I got one more of these so that is definitely on the table ?

The C08 High Elf fighter has joined the fray. I think this is my first non ral partha elf of the era I've painted ?
The way the face is sculpted though head on its more of a pre-cambrian idoneth sculpt with how fishy the eyes are

Hello! back again to peddle some more old lead. Got something different for today, something I really really struggled with lol.
The 1980 something (couldn't nail a specific date) Citadel Spacefarers Hover Car. Sculpted by the one and only Michael Perry, I am still half convinced he actually carved this from a bar of soap
When I got this thing it was a real arduous task getting this thing together and painted. The grav engine block was in almost broken into three pieces, the canopies were malformed, and I for the life of me could not tell where detail began or ended
But it is done and I can post the accompanying image.
It may or may not have been all for that
Got some imperial marines to do for this months contest but hoping to return to good ole fantasy after this

Alright I finally got to paint another fantasy mini lol. I got some more grenadier pics but I'll post those after the contest has ended, in the mean time...
1975 Heritage Men of Ruin Axeman, I saw these and absolutely had to see what they looked like in person! I've been looking for some kind of auxiliary force for my chaos warriors and these would make excellent proto chaos dwarfs ?
Not a bad sculpt for being 50 years old Although from this picture I didnt believe eyes were even sculpted.
"sculpted eyes" more like pits with a very tiny lump lol. Definitely plan on trying to source more for my chaos army.
Here he is compared to a citadel dwarf from 83/84 and yeah that looks about what i'm going for

1983(84?) Weird Fantasy "The Dwarf With No Name". Finding out where this guy is from is apparently a mystery since he was in both Ral Partha Imports but also Citadel Dwarfs in 1987 ?
Anyways lol, I'm a big western fan so it was a pleasant experience painting this guy up Trying to free hand over folds...hats out to the painters who pull that off flawlessly

Cataloging old minis is a hobby all its own
Did a little digging and I think mine is the Ral Partha imports variant, I know they did minor resculpts and the other one has a straighter pistol for some reason lol. The earliest I see this figure is from the 1982 Citadel catalogue ?

Heyo, finally back again after a hiatus, but for good reason! The sculpting bug hit me again and decided to attempt to actually finish a mini this time instead of abandoning it halfway through.
But first said minis' partner in crime...
The man himself, Harald Hammerstorm AKA Harry the Hammer! was saving this lad until I had finished the bulk of the chaos regiment but figured I'd do it now to go with my next mini...
Bob, the Chaos Warrior. Or Corncob Knight as I've been affectionately calling him If you've ever taken a gander at the bottom right of the official Harry art you'll see poor bob in the corner. It's alot like the second marine in the DooM art
Made from greenstuff, paperclips, plasticard, and a penny. Kinda sculpted a whole body underneath you can only see up close but oh well lol.
Knucklebones has an infinitely better version of this guy and you should check him out I wanted to make something that wouldn't look out of place with my other vintage stuff and proud to say he fits right in!
Now I just need a pile of C13 skellies for everyone to go up against!

The chaos mowhawk dude from the 1983(?) chaos warriors box. I have dubbed him Rotwang for obvious reasons Something about this guy just screamed red and silver
Attempted some free hand of the little familiar I did awhile back and it is delightfully amateur lol.

One classic Slann Trooper from 1983 One of the only 3 pre slotta slann I own lol. These guys are soooooo hard to find especially in the states! Hoping one day some collector finally empties his basement so I can get a chance at more.

Heyo, Been away in the cave surviving the heat, got something I've been working on...
Olmerk the Ratman Slayer! Those of you who can guess from that totally clever naming convention this is my take on making my own Kremlo for the DnD party since an original cost about as much as an army box now a days lol.
Unfortunately he turned out a little big I'll just hand wave that away by saying he's from a now extinct tribe of giant Slann who were wiped out my those blasted Skaven
We've entered the time where my miniature output will slow to a crawl due to the heat, but I do got something special planned next week (weather compliance)
Thanks for stopping by!

Post by: bong264
Alright, after struggling through the heat I got this special lad all done!
From 1982(3?) Saxon Manufacturing The Treeman... My first Ent! I really like the look of this guy, especially compared to other treemen of the same era. I have taken to calling him Adam Ent because of clever naming conventions
The DnD party consulting Adam Ent for any sage advice, also to show off the sheer size of this mini lol. Pictures turned out a little too glossy so might go back down the line and try to tone that down some but oh well.
I had a debate on whether to just completely hide the base tab or expand it out to what it is and glad I went with that option, see if you can spot the seam

Been a bit eh? Finally got a relatively mild week so decided to finally paint something lol.
From the good ole C01 Citadel fighters line, around 1983 to 84 I think. Nothing too fancy with this lad since I've apparently been 3 weeks out of practice Did try to give the cape some rough texture and I think it looks alright ?
I am still working on a varnish ratio so nothing is too matte or too semi gloss and may have finally found something I liked
Gonna try to not take another 3-4 week break but anyways...

Heya! Finally back again after some brutal heat aka summer we've been having Got a little something to help me get back in to the swing of things.
C11 1984 Halfling AKA Lando the Large. Although I will be calling my particular copy Chester lol. Got him on a teeny tiny 15mm base and boy are Halflings from this era small!
You can't notice it here but the hand and sword were kinda merged into one so I had to finagle some lines to make it look like he's got a blade guard and not just holding a piece of rectangular metal.
There he is with Bran, the potential startings of a new DnD Party? Haflings and Lesser Goblins were the only minis(?) to be on 15mm bases for a brief time before they were switched to 20mm in 2nd ed fantasy. I quite like the look of the 15mm bases
though and may do that for the rest of my teeny tiny hobbits

I have returned with a little something neat. There's a story behind this although it probably isn't that interesting Behold!
My first and probably only 1st edition Chaos Knight or Cleric of Chaos in this case Some more angles first,
I didn't know whether to put the before picture first but this was the state of the poor guy when I bought him several years ago in a lot.
Missing a leg, Missing the weapon, a horse that may or may not have been two different horses The rider is the mounted Fantasy Adventurers Evil Cleric. Did my best to give him a leg back and a new weapon (although that mace should have been longer lol).
The stamp on the bottom of the feet read "Ral Partha 1975" but I couldn't find a horse with a tied up tail looking through the catalogs ? Also when I made new legs they barely lined up anyways! So for all intents and purposes this is my first old school kitbash
I did always wonder how people back in the day made chaos knights for 1st/1.5 ed Warhammer since the forces of fantasy supplement straight up said you're gonna have to make your own. Probably won't do it again unless I come across anymore broken lead...
Whoever had this back then and was planning said kitbash, I hope I did it justice Orctober looms near so this was also in preparation for that, look forward to next week!

Hey @bong264, this is amazing work! So much love and dedication has gone into these minis!
I fell in love with your chaos warriors from the original WHFRP rulebook (I still got mine lying around here somewhere).
Might fine stuff here

Heyo, been a bit but I've been working on a little something. It is neither old nor lead but it is oldhammer inspired... Behold!
The Humble Shopkeep, who may or may not look really familiar
I've had this dumb idea in my head for awhile and started sculpting this lad back in late July. Took a big break and finished sculpting him last month. Been real busy but finally got around to painting him and I will say it's jank but exactly what I wanted.
Tried really hard to get him to fit in with early oldhammer sculpts and I think I managed it, gonna be used for WFRP and DnD shenanigans lol.
Thanks for indulging me and come back next time when I paint something actually old and lead
Have a good one! Automatically Appended Next Post: WBRBloom wrote:Hey @bong264, this is amazing work! So much love and dedication has gone into these minis!

Alright back again this time with something that actually existed lol.
Another classic pre slotta chaos warrior Although I cant find the exact date for this lad... Went with a nice green because that protrusion on his head may be a snake or a worm. Taken to calling him Snake Vargas in the meantime
And a back view
Real big fan of the chainmail for this lad, also his little wolf cloak covering the chest heh. May finally work through the rest of the regiment I got of these, got nine left. Either that or finally start on my first siege weapon...
Thanks for stopping by though and have a good day!
