This Gargant is being built with materials that are normally considered trash. For example: lids, empty bottles, electrical cables...
These photos are 4 weeks old.Currently, the weapons are already advanced (but not yet finished) and a large part of the Gargant's body has already received more panels and rivets...
The exterior of the head received several details. The interior of the head is still under study. But, I'm sure that the orc driver will be connected to the machine by cables...

Very creative. I have a junk drawer full of that kind of stuff.
I may have a gargant just waiting in there.

You don't lose anything by trying it out. It has been a very interesting experience.
After seeing several examples (among them: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/423841.page;
) I decided to try it. I don't know what the end result will be, but I'm enjoying the challenge.
Note: I don't play Warhammer, so I asked for a friend to print me some Orks and Gretchin to have a crew for the Gargant.

I love building things from found items- currently underway (and nearly under weigh- ha!) is a zeppelin, although I had to pay money for a couple of parts.

Your build is very ambitious and so far shows every sign of being well-executed- rock on!

]Hey everyone!
This is my second post about the project I've been working on lately: building an Ork Gargant!
Even though I'm not an active player of the Warhammer game, I'm absolutely fascinated by the rich universe it presents.

So far, I've managed to assemble practically the body and head of the Gargant, now is riveting and painneling time...
Additionally, I'm trying to create an interior of the body that captures the chaotic essence of the Orks. I want it to be a true maze of stuff, with loose wires, broken pipes and pieces of makeshift machinery scattered everywhere. The idea is that, when you look inside the Gargant, you feel like you're looking at chaos itself!

I'm excited to dive into the next phase: detailing the arms. One arm houses a giant chainsaw, ready to tear through anything that comes near. In the other, I'm doing a true mishmash of weapons, completely inspired by the spirit of 'Dakka'! The armwith the weapon will be free to rotate.

I'm looking forward to share more updates as I progress on this journey. If anyone has tips or suggestions, I'm totally open to hearing them! And if you're also building something related to Warhammer, I'd love to see what you're doing.
Until next time, may the Waaagh! be with you all!

Fascinating. I'm particularly interested in seeing how it looks when painted. The only part I'm skeptical of is the use of shoes, but it's looking good so far.

Progress Update: Ork Gargant Weaponry Details

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share a quick update on my Ork Gargant project. I've been busy adding panels and details to the weapons recently.

One thing I've focused on is creating custom ammunition feeding systems for the cannons. Drawing inspiration from Ork culture, I imagined how they would keep their weapons loaded during battle. The solution? Using Grots to help with the process.
In my interpretation, I've crafted details and mechanisms that depict Grots scurrying about and manually carrying shells to the larger cannons. One thing to note is that in the process of loading ammunition, the Grots are subject to many dangers, like crossing a precarious bridge (to be built) between the body of the Gargant and the arm where the weapon is mounted.
IMHO, these small yet significant details not only add visual interest to the model but also inject personality and narrative into the scene.

Regarding the shoes:
I wanted to share a fun detail about my Ork Gargant project that I've been working on. You see, I've incorporated a pair of sneakers into the design, serving as the feet of the Gargant. But here's the twist: each sneaker belongs to one of my two nephews, aged six.
Each of them has expressed a few requests regarding the project, and I'm making it a reality by placing these requests on the side where their corresponding shoe is located, like if representing the inspiration of Gork and Mork...

I would love to hear your thoughts about this projct.

Grots bring an integral but expendable part of an Ork mechanism is a fantastic idea. Your progress looks good also and the nephew shoe inclusion is very sweet.

Hello.

I wanted to share some more photos of my project, the Ork Gargant, but I wanted to clarify that these images are from a dry fit stage. This means that the pieces are assembled loosely to get a general idea of how the project is coming together.
I'm still in the process of refining and finalizing details, so some parts may appear loose or unfinished in the photos. As I progress and make updates, I'll be sure to post more photos to keep you all in the loop.

Feedback and advice are welcome and necessary!

Looking good. I'm a bit confused why everything is so amazingly greebled except the sport shoes?

Is it too late to detail them?

Otherwise, spectacular work all-around and inside!

Hi everyone,

First off, I want to thank all of you for the feedback on my Gargant project.
I really appreciate the comments, especially regarding the sneakers I've used for the feet. I understand that they may seem a bit under-detailed at this stage, but my goal was to keep them recognizable as actual sneakers, since they hold a special significance in the project.

I've already applied partially the base coat of primer, but I agree that the sneakers could use more detailing to enhance the overall look. I'll be working on that in the next steps.
Thanks again for all the constructive criticism—it's helping me push this project further!

Looking forward to sharing the next updates (with primer) with you.

Bravo! Can't wait to see more.

I do worry about the cardboard tube, they tend to just soak up primer, but it's probably too late now, and it is greebled and covered up.

To reinforce the cardboard tube used in the structure, I’ve applied a layer of PVA glue (wood glue) to protect and strengthen it. This should give it more durability as I continue working on the project.

Thanks for following along, and I’ll keep you posted with more updates soon!

Hi everyone,

I’m sharing a couple of images today that show the weapon control system for my Ork Gargant. One image focuses on the control system for the chainsaw, while the other is for the cannons. In one of the photos, you can also see both control stations together, along with the Ork responsible for controlling the cannons. Both systems are still a work in progress, but I wanted to give a sneak peek of how they’re shaping up.

(The Orks and Grots that will be operating the Gargant are 3D printed using FDM technology)

As always, feedback and suggestions are welcome!

Looks suitably orky. I imagine Orks think the more buttons and levers it has, the better it works

Some advances in the weapons control system.
Orkish, or "trash" to be rebuilt?

Hi everyone,

I’ve made some progress with the interior painting of the Gargant, and the photos show the current state of the paint job. The weathering effects still need to be added, but this gives a good idea of how things are coming along so far. These images also include a test run of how I plan to decorate the interior with the Orks and other equipment.

I’d love to hear your suggestions on what else I could add to the interior to make it even more detailed, interesting and orkish!

As always, feedback and suggestions are welcome!

If your still looking for ideas I'd recommend some rats or squids if rats are too pedestrian and normal.

Hi everyone,

I’ve been busy working on the paint job for my Ork Gargant lately. At the moment, I consider the exterior of the body to be painted, though I plan to add some weathering effects in the future to give it more character.

The painting on the exterior of the head is also coming along nicely, but there are still details that need to be finished before it’s complete.
However, work on the feet has been on hold for now, as I’ve been focusing on other parts of the project.

As always, I’m open to your feedback and suggestions!

Hi everyone,

I’ve been considering adding LED lights to my Ork Gargant to make it even more "impressive".

Here are some of the ideas I’m planning to incorporate:
Eyes: LEDs in the eyes to give the Gargant a menacing glow.
Head Interior: A light inside the head to illuminate the command room.
Body Interior: LEDs within the body to highlight the internal details and showcase the Orks and Grots at work (The interior has been designed to make sense, with parts that aim to simulate functionality. For example, there’s a pathway leading from the ammunition storage to the weapons, so the Grots can transport ammo and reload the guns. This task, however, is quite a challenge for the Grots, as they are considered expendable, which adds to the chaotic feel of the design).

I think this will add a lot of character and make the Gargant stand out even more. However, I’d like to hear your thoughts — do you think it’s worth the effort?

Looking forward to your feedback!

Yes... lights!

And if you want to fulfill my crazy dream add sound! There aren't tons of tiny speakers on the market and tons more of Ork quotes from games.

Slow Progress… But It’s Orktober!

Due to professional commitments, I haven’t made much progress on the Gargant lately. Real life has a way of sneaking into the workshop!
However, since it’s Orktober, I’ve decided it’s the perfect time to fire up the hobby engines again and get back to work.
So far, I’ve managed to install some lighting inside the Gargant — the head and the front interior sections are now illuminated, which already gives the model a more personality and presence. And it’s already starting to look more intimidating in the dark!
From here, I’ll be picking up the pace and pushing forward with the rest of the build. It’s time to make the Mekboyz proud!

Next up: adding details to the feet (because even the biggest stompas need stylish boots), and installing a launch platform for an aircraft. After all, extra air support never hurt anyone… well, except the enemy!
The WAAAGH! is slowly powering up again!

More Dakka on the Inside!

WAAAGH! After a bit of a break, I’ve been workin’ on the interior of da Gargant again, and it’s startin’ to look proppa Orky. Below are two photos: one gives you a general look at the front interior (now with some Orks and Grots in place), and the other includes some numbers to help explain what’s what.

Let’s go through da important bitz:
1) Chainsaw Arm Control Station – This is where a big mean Ork takes charge of the saw arm. Gotta keep someone tough here, ‘cause that thing’s noisy, dangerous, and waaay too fun to use.

2) Gun Arm Control Station – Operated by a dedicated Ork gunner, this is where the dakka happens. Notice the big red button on the ceiling? Yeah… that’s the “make it all go boom” button. You know every Ork wants to press it.

3) Ammo Storage for the Gun Arm – Most of the ammunition for the arm weapons is stored right where the number is placed. The red arrow shows the route the Grots have to take to carry ammo all the way to the arm guns. It’s a dangerous job (good thing Grots are expendable…). Along the way, there’s a rickety wooden drawbridge about halfway through. That bridge is there so the ammo lift system can be used — you can spot the hook where the lift gets mounted in the photo. The Grots climb through a hole in the hull, then follow an access path inside the arm (I’ll show that in a future update!).

4) Ammo and Powder Barrels for the Belly Gun – Gotta feed the big gun in the gut somehow! The yellow cylindrical objects are the barrels filled with black powder — essential for making the boom extra loud.

5) More Ammo for the Belly Gun – There’s extra stashed around (some is tricky to spot in the photos). After all, you can never have too much ammo. Fun fact: those round cannonballs are actually the perfect caliber for the belly gun — the Mek had some lucky finds this time!

6) Nuclear Bomb – Because, let’s be honest… a nuke always comes in handy.

Comments, feedback, and ideas are always very welcome!

Lights on! After all, da WAAAGH! doesn’t stop just because it’s dark outside!

The Gargant is starting to light up! For now, only the head and part of the front interior have LEDs installed. It’s still a work in progress — I don’t want to buy more LEDs, because that would go against the whole trash build concept. Also, real Orks make do with what they have got, right?

Comments and suggestions are very welcome — both by da Mek and by me!

The Gargant’s got air support now!

On top of the gun arm, there’s a launch platform with a little Ork plane ready to fly. The Mek came up with a genius launch system that’s kinda like a giant crossbow mixed with springs… you know, the classic “it works ‘cause it’s Orky” kind of thing.

The platform can turn and tilt using two gear systems. Just the way the Orks like it — every now and then a Grot gets stuck in there, and that’s part of the fun!

And of course, with something this crazy, the pilot had to be a tiny Grot. Who else would be brave (or dumb) enough to try it?

That said, I’m not completely happy with it. The plane ends up getting a bit lost among all the other details on the Gargant, and it doesn’t really stand out.

I’d love to hear suggestions on how to make it pop more! What should I do???

This time, it’s the back section of the Gargant.

Here you can see the whole mechanical system that keeps the machine running — a mix of gears, pipes, and heavy machinery that makes the Gargant move and fight.

Four Grots are working (or pretending to) in this area, operating and maintaining the system. Each one has a specific role to make sure everything keeps turning as it should, at least until something explodes.

At the bottom, there’s a cylindrical structure — that’s the power source of the entire Gargant.
And that power comes from something truly unique: a teeth of Gork or Mork... or

Comments and suggestions are very welcome — both from the Mek and from me.
I’m still looking for a good way to make the little plane more visible on the Gargant, so ideas are appreciated!
