HOOOORRUUUUUSSSSS!! BCowl‘s Blood Angels Firstborn-SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT  @ 2024/04/05 14:34:32

Post by: bullisariuscowl

Starting a Blood Angels army, but with a catch. The units can only be Firstborn, this doesn’t count newer HH models, they all have to be the older, pre-primaris era models. This is different from my other blog, as all posts here will be BA related only. I’m working on building some tactical marines right now, and will update more on my plans for this army when I’m done. Wish me luck, brothers!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Been working on the squad some more. I have 3 marines built, and I have 2 of those firstborn Space Marine Heroes blind buy bois that I can use in the squad, giving me 2 bodies to convey to a captain and lieutenant.
Anyway, they have a pretty subpar paint job, and I painted the plasma gunner and the running guy with the knife (who has a boltgun on his back, so that should let me use him as a normal marine) as a crimson fist and black templar respectively. That gives me a 5 man squad, consisting of a sergeant with combi weapon, 1 plasma gunner, and 3 boltgun marines. I have the legs for the next 5 marines built. I tried to give all the marines a skull on their base, as im sure it will look cool with the Baal desert basing scheme I have planned for these boys. I already have a missile launcher marine built, I just need to glue him on to his legs.

Tac boys are all built, I’m in a GW store right now as I post this. I finished assembling the last two battle brothers and learnt some stuff.
Here they are

Oh, no those are single marines from some line of blind buy single miniatures GW did some time. I think they were called 'space marine heroes' or something like that. The running pose one with the knife was painted as a Black Templar, and the Plasma Gunner was a Crimson Fist, I painted them a while ago but I don't like them that much, and I can probably repurpose them to be part of the TAC squad. I'm doing this so I have 2 extra bodies to make a captain and a lieutenant. They were just one off models I bought to try out different schemes a while ago. the red patches are paint that has been scraped off, as I don't have access to Isopropyl yet, so I have to make do with what I have until I can acquire some.

I have a basing scheme for these blood boys planned. I'll use some sand, stick it on with PVA glue, use watered down PVA glue to seal it in, then prime it with the miniature and paint it in a dark beige-y sand scheme. (might try some designed for basing miniatures. I have no sand from Bettystown beach in my home country of Ireland as i mixed it with some sand pit sand I scavenged. Needless to say, sand with loads of small weeds and random bits of dried up plants from an empty children's play box which in all likelihood, some child might have urinated in is not a good basing material for miniatures. Had to go at my Bolt Action Soviet bases with a knife after using that.) the skulls on the bases will be painted lighter to create visual interest and just because it'll look cool.

My custom Blood Angels Lieutenant I kitbashed out of the tactical squad and the Blood angels upgrade sprue. I have also been doing some basing with Bird sand from my 'somewhat-local' pet shop. Will be uploading the images tomorrow, and hopefully painting a couple of marines in my 'not-so-local' GW store.

Why thank you, battle brother! I had to use one of the boltgun arms to hold his pistol, I actually think it looks pretty good. I’m holding out on building my captain, as I want him to be special so I will wait until I improve at building these guys.

I waited a whole night, but I guess the sand didn’t dry because when I applied the pva mix some of the sand got damp and dislodged when I touched it. Ah gak. Anyone have any tips to solve this? Should I wait until it dries fully and try again, or scrape it all off?

What I did to really seal in my sand on a few models, is I glued it on with Mod-Podge (any PVA glue that isn't school glue will work fine),
and waited for it to dry fully. Then, I took a dropper with isopropyl, dropped it on the dried sand and then dripped watered down Mod-Podge (again, any PVA will work that isn't school glue) to seal it in. The isopropyl will help the glue really get in there for a nice secure seal.

Thank you for the tips! It's interesting to have a Leclerc Tank Commander AND a Baal Predator pilot commenting on my thread.
The Emperor must have truly blessed me. How do you know if its school glue, by the way, and what is the difference? Mine is just craft store PVA glue, and the funny thing is I HAVE used this exact same glue before on a DKOK base, with the water-PVA mix, and it's as hard as rock after being primed. You can sort of see it on the flamer guy, reloading lasgun guy, and chainsword sergeant guy in these WIP cultists( if the base is painted a very dark brown, that's the sand). The sand was from a nice beach in Ireland, though. Maybe it's the material I'm using that's the problem. Who knows? Certainly not me.

Went to my not-so-local GW store and ordered 5 BA assault termies to pick up in store. It'll take a while, but I can't wait to build and paint them! Actually, on that note, what if i set a challenge. An 'Oath' if you will, finish the tactical squad and attached Lieutenant before they get delivered at the store! Email said 17 business days, which the 'business' part implies it'll probably be more than only 17 days, at least I expect. Why do GW's Astropaths have to be so confusing? Who knows?!

I also realised that his power fist pose is unintentionally similar to the captain in John Blanche's classic Blood Angels artwork used for the 2nd edition boxset cover.

Alright, it's not THAT similar, but it is somewhat evocative of this boltgun wielding ponytailed rebel.

I can't get over the idea of my helmeted lieutenant having a hole in the back of his helmet so his awful rat-tail haircut can have room to look cool,
I won't be greenstuffing a ponytail on him, but it might be a good idea on scouts. As far as I know, all of my marines will have helmeted heads, but some scouts with ponytails might be a good idea! I am thinking of painting a Sniper Scout Squad (you can find SO many of them poorly painted or unbuilt on german ebay, it's surprising how many people are selling)But if i ever add a squad of vanilla, normal scouts, it might work.

After all, ponytails look pretty cool.
If anyone reading this has ever played the 1998 game 'Half-Life' you might not know that the player character, Gordon Freeman had a ponytail in that game, but it was removed in the sequels. The greatest trick Freeman's ponytail pulled was convincing the world it didn't exist.

Even the mod’s trying to cover up his ponytail! It can’t catch a break.
Mod edit: non-wargaming image removed.

I made a test base again. I decided to wait for a day and a half, and it was most certainly dry. I got curious, though. Too curious. I picked at it with my nail and with enough effort peeled the sand off the base. It was pretty strong though, and I hadn't used the PVA mix yet. I'm going to try again though and troubleshoot it enough til I'm satisfied. After all, I have no other use for 5kg of sand. Maybe the sand is too thin? I don't know, but what I do know is that I sure as hell don't want my sand flaking off after being painted. I also tried to go at the base of one of my WIP leftover cultists
and the sand didn't budge, but that was from a beach so I don't even know anymore, I can't find enough details on using bird sand for basing.
All I found were some (as expected) vapid reddit comments that weren't helpful in the slightest, and an article that was describing mixing sand with paint and painting over a finished model's blank base, which doesn't really sound like my kind of style. Ridiculous ask, but would anybody know what to do? I asked some guys in my not-so-local GW store if they used sand but it was only a couple people who said they used it a while ago and couldn't remember much on using it, and most said they used texture paints.

Post by: Maréchal des Logis Walter

Painting with sand to texture paint might actually work. Just make sure to use an already dead brush.

Have you tried by any chance other sorts of glue?

And thirdly, maybe it was too thick a layer of sand. Never forget, before going to the next step, to gently tap the mini and let all sand that wouldn't hold fall.

I also remember from using sand for my terrain that using varnish actually helped it hold together.

I based the test base again, using wood glue this time. I didn't thin the glue at all (I figured that might have been prt of the problem which made the sand peel off the other base so easily) and it feels quite solid. The sand ended up looking transparent in places, but it's not that bad of a look. the real question is, should i seal the base in with my other PVA (of which I had good results with beach sand, but not the bird sand I'm using), or the wood glue I used already?
I have genuinely no idea, and I'm scared I'll mess up again and have to use texture paste, something I REALLLY DON''T want to do

You’re right there, it can just be disheartening when your basing scheme keeps failing

I talked with a relative of mine who uses the same brand of wood glue for woodworking purposes, and he said the glue is quite thick already so I would just smooth out the sand and obscure the rough texture, so while he has never used it for basing I’ll take his word for it. Unsure of using the ‘craft PVA glue’ I had mixed results with using (if you remember my sand getting all mushy and falling off from before) but I might use it sparingly to seal in the sand.

Also, ShadowsAndDust, if you’re reading this, I believe you mentioned this before, but why is using ‘school glue’ bad for basing, and how do you tell if it’s school glue or not? Mine just says ‘bastelleim’ (German for craft glue) and the label says it can stick paper, wood, cork, leather, etc.

I didn't realize you were in Germany. In the US the most common type of PVA glue that you can find in the store is what's referred to as "school glue". It's bad for basing because it's weaker than regular PVA and is made so that it can be washed out of clothing with a little soap and water. Bottles of school glue are marked "school glue". I use Elmer's Glue-All for sand, but wood glue also works.

Nah it's fine, I got some Wood Glue at Hornbach (think Ikea, but more aggressively masculine and german, or home depot mixed with a garden center or something) that one of the guys in the unofficial Whatsapp group for my not-so-local-GW-store recommended, and I used it on a base already. after sealing it in it's pretty solid.

I also had a look through my Soviet Union backlog for Bolt Action, and realized I had a lot of miniatures. I'm talking a couple of metal heavy weapons teams like mortars and machine guns, some resin snipers, resin flamethrower guys, resin light mortar guys, a metal Command squad, 12 riflemen, and more than 30 riflemen still on sprue, as well as a KV-1/2 tank.

Let me know if any of you would like to see a Soviet P&M Blog when I paint enough of these vampire boys, because there's certainly a P&M Blog's worth of 'em here.

Hurrah! My Angels now have a basing scheme! Bought some wood glue on Saturday and it reacted well to being sealed with more pva and primer. Started out with mephiston red (obviously the bases will be attached to the red blood angels) painted Vallejo leather brown over the red, heavily dry brushed Vallejo Old wood, washed with army painted soft tone, dry brushed again with old wood, hit it with a lighter drybrush of Vallejo German camo beige ww2 (what a mouthful of a name!) and finally dry brushed some Vallejo offwhite. Painted the base rim with Old Wood again (way better than Zandri dust,IMHO) and it was done. I’d go lighter with the white next time, but it still reads as a desert. I’m feeling Absolutely ecstatic to work on my tactical squad!

Not again… I was basing my tactical squad yesterday with the wood glue and today after applying the sealer (made from the pva glue which didn’t work last time) over the dried, almost transparent sand a couple bases started looking very solid, like the sand was clearly visible in texture and colour. Out of curiosity I picked at the edge of the bases and the sand was easily peeled off. I rebased those minis and slightly peeled the edge of sand off of one of the marine’s bases and sealed ut back in with pva glue, then applied more sand over it. It’s becoming very hard to feel motivated to paint these minis now. Should I just prime the ones with bases that look similar to how the rest one looked unprimed or should I just try all over again? Goddamn this is so frustrating…

Ignore the last post. There won't be anymore Mr. Depressed-About-Basing appearing in this thread, no siree. I decided to base the models with sand I scratched off, sealed them in and just primed them all. My can of mephiston red is a year old, and I consider it a relic due to the fact it is priced as 17 euros instead of 17.85 euros.

I basecoated the red in my Not-So-Local-GW on Saturday, and painted a bit more on Sunday. My Blood Angels Assault Terminators arrived that day too, so I rapidly built all of them in the ensuing evening. It really is a lovely kit, with tons of extra bits. I've built them with Thunder Hammers and Storm Shields, with one having the Banner from the kit as a 'counts-as' Storm Shield. This gives me an extra Storm Shield to use as a Combat Shield in an upcoming Tactical Squad-to-Jump-Pack-Assault-Squad Conversion. I also have a bare head from the kit to use for my blood angels captain I have yet to build. I also ordered Death Company (The good ones, not the Primaris intercessor repackage, yuck.)

Anyway, here's a WIP of the Tac Squad. I have the eye lenses and most of the leg wiring (or whatever you call the openings on the back of the legs and arms) painted now. I'm planning on giving the red a wash of AP Red Tone, Drybrush of Mephiston Red, then Astorath Red, then a very light, precise drybrush of Ryza Rust. The reason I'm basecoating the blacks before the messy drybrush is I reason that I can just fix up the mistakes anyway. Painting Vallejo VMC Black over red is proving to be very dull. Wish me luck, I really think I need it. Yawn.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh, also, the banner and shields aren't glued on the Ass Termie's yet. For ease of painting, I'm going to mask off the connection points and paint them seperately.

Well Met, Brother. Thanks for sharing your opinion! I really appreciate it when other people comment here. My BA Project will likely never be as popular as the ones on the front page, but I don't really care, it makes it all the more special when users like you share your opinions.
And, If I may ask, could you possibly share some photos of your BA's in this thread? I'm intrigued.

Anyway, I figure it's high time I outline my intentions for this army. The 1000 point list I conceived looks something like this:

1 Captain (unbuilt)
1 Lieutenant (WIP)
1 Sanguinary Priest/Apothecary (Not Bought yet)
10 Tactical Marines (WIP)
5 Assault Terminators (Built, unprimed)
5 Death Company/DC w/ jump packs (Bought, but I haven't received them yet)
1 Rhino (Not Bought Yet)
1 Furioso Dreadnought (Not Bought Yet)

Future expansions would Include a couple Scout squads (snipers and vanilla scouts), maybe a land speeder, mixed bike/attack bike squad, and a Tactical squad to assault squad with jump pack conversion, but I'm focusing on my starter list before any of those.

Nah, it's all good. I'm glad you enjoy my work. And while I do really like the Primaris models, the firstborn models do seem to have more character in general. And I spoiler tagged my last post. The spoiler tag is something I often forget about, and I should have used it before since this thread is about showcasing your models, and not mine.

I haven’t been posting the finished picture of the test model I painted, I really am sorry! I haven’t had a lot of painting time due to obligations and lack of time, as well as rediscovering and listening to too much Nine Inch Nails, I don’t know how that’s a reason too, it just is. I promise I’ll post the finished marine tomorrow.

I'd be a heretic if I didn't follow through on my promises, wouldn't I?

But here he is, my first finished marine. I finished him a few days ago, but so many other things have been going on in my life for the past week I could only finish one other marine, who I am not that happy with compared to this one. The red armour is just Meph Red spray, some more Meph.R to basecoat everything, basecoat the blacks and silvers with Vallejo Model Colour Black and Iron Warriors, wash the red with AP Red Tone ( I just realized they don't make it anymore because of the new fanatics line replacing warpaints. This new red tone better be good,)
, Heavy drybrush/mild overbrush of Meph.R again, drybrush of astorath red, precise drybrush of Ryza Rust. The black was highlighted with VMC German Grey, probably the best natural looking highlight for Black in my opinion, but it came out a little bit blue here. I'm very plesed with the finished result, I like how the sponge-weathering came out, and I find his highlights eye catching. I can see myself fielding a whole army with this scheme. I'll post the 2nd marine I painted tomorrow, but be warned he isn't as good.

The weathering is nice, if I were you i'd add a touche of black at the spots you want to apply the weathering to give additional texture. I personnaly do it usually with white spots though, especially for vehicules, as i'm used to the chipped camouflage of french army vehicules letting white undercaot or whatever that is show through.

I'm sorry if it's been a while, guys! i don't have much to show in terms of models, I'll probably finish 5 tactical marines, then post them. I ordered a furioso dread and some sanguinary guard today, and I can't wait for them to arrive.

The big question: what should I build the dreadnought as, a furioso, death company, or librarian ?

I plan on eventually including all three in my army, but i'm not sure which one to build. I'm leaning towards the furioso, because you can take a heavy frag cannon (not a bad choice at all) or two fists and a meltagun. DC has some ability which makes him good in melee, but why take the blood talons when you can take fists? I do like the idea of a half-dead guy in a walking coffin with claws and a skull for a face, though. the Librarian dreadnought seems great, and will likely be my second choice if I choose the furioso pattern. I enjoy the idea of a dead psyker in a gundam coffin bursting xenos' intestines with his mind, and the blue midsection looks cool, if not fun to paint. I still think I should start with the Furi, though. Learn the basics of painting castraferrums.

What do you think? I'd love to hear some of the reader's opinions.

I built mine as the Furioso with the magnet grapple and the two fists. It was a joy to paint, but I do recommend keeping the arms as separate sub assemblies for painting.

Death company just because that's the most most iconic to blood angels to me. Althought the furioso is more wise, but I mean, it's not a raving hero of the imperium with a genetically induced PTSD ongoing that's inside.

Don't Worry! I'm not dead! I've just been focused on painting the tactical squad one-by one, and some life-stuff has prolonged some painting. But I promise I'll post some pics of a 5 man squad when I finish it. I have a Furi Dread, Sanguinary Guard, 5 terminators, a lieutenant, a captain, 3 death company marines, and a terminator assault squad I need to paint. That's a lot. I'm on a pilgrimage to Holy Eire with the family for six weeks, and I've magnetized a box and some bases with greenstuff so I can update you guys. I also finally got some isopropyl and two marines are stripped, as well as a sanguinary guard. (I ruined two SG and a terminator banner with bad army painter primer. But i have the banner primed in grey now, so nothing to worry about). I hope to paint some models while I'm in Ireland, so stay tuned if you're into that kind of thing. Again, I'm sorry for the long break! I'll rectify that with some finished models soon, okay?

In Ireland right now. We went through france to get to cork, got to see some second world war memorials and a load of sheep as well as some cows, you guess which country respectively. I haven't gotten the chance (or motivation, which I find is quickly fleeting when away from a hobbydesk or your game-store buddies for too long) but I am planning on finishing up the tactical sergeant, and devastator marine and then focusing on a terminator squad or maybe my lieutenant. Ooh, maybe even the Furioso dreadnought. I'll cross the that bridge when I come to it. Finishing Hotline Miami for the fourth time as well as replaying Hotline Miami 2 levels and finally booting up my copy of Dawn of War has not helped in the 'time to paint' department. Alas, I will probably paint some more tomorrow. Forcing myself to paint helps no one.

Bought a Chaplain with Jump Pack today, and I have some more Death Company on the backburner, I also bought the horus heresy MKIV tactical squad box too, I figure 20 marines is enough to make 5 Devastator boltgun marines and 10 assault marines, with some spare bodies for characters left over. I'll probably buy the MKVII tactical squad too mix with the MKIV bodies so they fit in with the other marines, and mixed armour marks always look good.

Just have to finish the base on the Sergeant and the squad's done! I am so so sorry for taking this long, but I'm getting back into the swing of things. I've decided to submit my army into the 'Armies on Parade' event in my not-so-local GW. Although I don't intend on winning, I just want motivation to paint my dudes and also, the idea of displaying them is a wet-dream in of itself.

Anyway, I won't submit everything into it because there's no way I can finish all of it for October, I haven't quite figured out what to bring, but Here's what I have so far.

-1 Lieutenant (WIP)
-5 Tactical Marines (Finished, but base rims need painting and the SGT needs to have his base painted)
-Furioso Dreadnought (Primed)
-5 Sanguinary Guard (Mostly primed, but one is WIP)
-1 Chaplain w/ Jump Pack (unbuilt)
-5 Assault Terminators
-Maybe the Captain, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to finish him.

I will update within a couple days, when the bases will be done.

Thanks for sticking with this blog, even if I have the pace of a sloth when it comes to painting.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also, I love my custom Captain, but I feel he should have a jump pack. It's too late to give him one now, but if I can obtain the now OOP Firstborn upgrade pack and get the same helmet, I feel that I could make an alternate version of him. The same ol' Captain Aurelio, just with a jump pack to lead the eventual assault squad, and an on-foot one to lead the tactical marines. His helmet is on his base, with an unhelmeted head on the current model, so maybe I could have it look like he donned the same helmet, jumping into battle. Also his sword is VERY short.

Thanks! I've never done something like this before, and the reason I take so much time is this army is my pride and joy. My iron warriors are mostly unpainted, too different to each other, differing paint schemes etc. My old orks, look pretty bad and aren't uniform at all, no highlighting or anything, but my Blood Angels, they're nearest to my heart, even if I only started it recently! I also think submitting them kind of a gesture, showing old models can be just as cool and characterful as whatever new releases they make. (the blood angels refresh has shown me they are WAYY more characterful and unique than the new, just black armoured assault marine death company they are making.)

But also, it's just a nice idea! It's been nice to finally get to talk to people who I have things in common with in the shop, as it's big enough to have a painting and game table each. Two guys that work there are pretty cool too, not the 'buy this, buy that, you can't say that in this shop' workers you hear about on the net. If it wasn't for all the fun games played and nice conversations had there, my sons of Sanguinius would not be displayed there. This army is kind of a reflection of those interactions, I think.

Thanks for saying that! It's great to know you're still reading, despite how I have taken too long to paint all these guys...

I'm from Ireland, but I moved here to Frankfurt with my family when I was very young. Been here for most of my life for now, I'm not going to reveal my age on the internet (I am not a child or anything, I just feel it's wiser not to) but I am still technically an adolescent, so I don't get a lot of time to paint, for obvious reasons I think, but I will definitely spend more of my free time on this army when I can.

Oi! No dissing my boy Grotsnik ‘ere!

In reality, I was going to ask if they had it in my FLGS, as I went in to buy plastic glue last friday (one b4 yesterday) to buy plastic glue, and ended up walking out with a winged chaplain instead! Apparently person at the till was also a classic blood angels enjoyer, on a similar yet probably not as obsessive crusade. Asked if I was interested in the furi dread, I said no cuz I was in a rush. Went back to ask today, and saw TWO ones there. slightly discounted from the current gw price. Probably going to make it a DC dread. As I’ve basically assembled the contents of the old DC strike force box seperately.

Finished building him, tried to customise him.

I pimped him out with purity seals on the big X mark, that chalice crown back ornament thing from the upgrade sprue, a long purity seal on the left arm, as well as using the skull icon with the cross on it on that arm as well.

For the right arm, I used a blood angels tilting plate from… death company, I think? Or the Sanguinary Guard box (RIP) I filed down the back and glued it on. I then rather simply stick the parchment piece from the tactical squad set on the shoulder (you know, the blank one with the imperial eagle on top).

I’m rather pleased with this model, I’d say it turned out very well. Can’t wait to get some paint on this big fether

Thanks, both. Much appreciated. I had the sudden epiphaby I am probably not going to be able to finish this Terminator squad. There’s just too many details. Now, that’s not saying I’m going to scrap them, no way! No way Jose! But I will probably work some more on them after the AOP showcase. The dreadnought, Chaplain and maybe Lieutenant seems more realistic.

So, that gives me 5 tactical marines (completed)
A Winged chaplain, who’s nearing completion, a lieutenant, simple enough to paint quickly, and the dreadnought, which is almost fully basecoated. Forgive me you all, for the lack of photos and too much waffling. I absolutely aim to correct that, just real life stuff gets on the way. As well as just feeling down some times, which as you can imagine inhibits painting. Not being able to see my game-store bros as much certainly doesn’t help, either.

Well, enough of a tangent. I promise to paint more and post photos after this event

And yes, I will keep using literarily translated french idioms here and there for as long as I post on this forum!!!

No prob! Good advice, and the ‘costs one of your balls’ idiom was great.

Thanks! GeeDubs sure as hell isn’t, so it falls on us enthusiasts to carry the tradition. I invite you to do the same, if you can.

I’m currently painting the Chaplain and Dread some more. I’ll probably be hitting the sack a bit later, but it’s worth it for the cool minis, right?

Actually, my marines are also firstborns I picked second hand. But I'm quite overwhelmed with the amount of side works I have to do for people and parishes and just can't manage hobby time anymore in the last 3 months. Not before some time yet I think.

Well, when you do get around to them, which chapter will you paint them as?

I finished the chaplain last night…or morning… god I was up late.
I couldn’t finish all of the dreadnought, sadly. After I was done highlighting the chappy, it just wasn’t happening. Sorry, everyone. I will finish him very soon though. AoP is today, so I’ll be leaving for the store soon. For now, enjoy some bad photos before I can take new ones.

Oh my, that chaplain's about to hand somebody's arse over to him. Nice job!

Still got to decide on the colour as they'll be my custom sneaky-morony-cursed founding chapter.

Thanks! I do like how the model's pose has him soaring forward, looking like he is both holding his crozius high to inspire his brothers, and about to bonk a heretic right in the face. More sneaky marines is always a good thing, good luck finding a colour!

No catch here. I don’t have a monkeys paw. How would I paint minis then ?

I’m giving Retromancer the choice, as both are basically just pimped out tactical marines so they won’t be hard to paint. Also he’s the 100th reply, so I figured, Kark it, might as well let him choose.

Full Tactical Squad photos will be posted when I’ve finished the last 5 marines. If finishing a chaplain in a few hours is possible, a marine every couple days should be no sweat.

Dear readers, I have some news to report. Photos of the AOP entry will be uploaded 2mrw. It was on from the 28th of september to the 5th of october, I could not pick them up on the 5th cuz I was at Essen Spiel '24, got a bit of a haul from there as well. I'll be sure to upload that! I picked them back up today. My tactical squad I ordered to mix with mkiv bits to make a pair of assault squads, the boltgun section of a devvie squad and some Sternguard has not arrived yet, so I decided to fulfill an idea I had lately. Paint some Catachans! A guard playing friend of mine, put together the outline for a good 1k list. I plan on using some old metals mixed with some old plastics. I will hold out on painting them for a while, and io also have some more...quirky non-warhammer military guys to paint. I really want to make blogs for them at some point, so I will plan on getting quite a lot of Blood Angels finished before those. Then I will likely take a bit of a break from this blog. Big words, I know, for someone who has not uploaded a lot of minis painted to this blog, but I figure there's gold to be mined there. This won't be the end of this blog, this has become my main army, and I plan on playing a game real soon. Yup! An actual game with firstborn marines, and in 10th edition no less! Not exactly a common sight.

Well, I've flapped my beak enough for one day. Expect some WIP build fotos tomorrow.

the AOP photo I promised:

I also won a Bronze medal in best painted for the category I entered these in. My shop's 'younger people' or whatever they called it category only had me and a much-younger 11 year old boy, who won Gold I think. Good job, he's definitely not reading this, but that's especially impressive for how many stormcasts he painted. So yeah, it wasn't quite as legitimate as a reward I guess, as the store manager I'm cool with awarded the well, awards himself, instead of the votes, because there were FAR more impressive paintjobs there, and there was no indication it was a speperate category. But, who cares? The main sell was being able to display my minis in that shop, I've spent a lot of time there, and this army would not have happened if I hadn't started painting there. So that's a bonus I guess!

INFANTRY:
-5 Death Company Marines w/ Jump Packs: 5x Thunder Hammers

-5 Sanguinary Guard, 5x Inferno Pistol, 4x Encarmine Blade, 1x Power Fist, Sanguinary Banner

VEHICLES:

Wish me Luck, Boys!

Batrep pics will be posted tmrw. I’m sorry to say this, but I have some news… good or bad, depending on how you look at it. I know all of you have come here to look at Firstborn Blood Angels, and I know not a lot of painting has been posted, but I’ve been feeling a little burnt out lately. I have so many minis is various stages of WIP and I think o need something easier to take my mind off of it… Catachans.

Now, what does this mean for the blog? You are definitely asking.
Well, nothing really. I still love my Blood Angels, Ijust want to try something new out.

Will I abandon this blog? Of course not. I’ve had too much fun posting and painting here for that! I simply just want to take a break for a bit. Like a month, month and a half, maybe? I don’t quite know. I still have plenty of cool minis to paint, and conversions which I only hope can mimic a fraction of the cool factor to post here. Like, you can expect a custom Chaplain, a full tactical squad, a terminator librarian, kitbashed on-foot one, et cetera.

But I’m not going to stop posting on Dakka for that hiatus, I’ve made the decision to start a Plog for the Catachans (expect some old metals and plastics), so if you enjoy older models, metals, and the finer aspects of this blog, I have something for you to chew on for the time being.

I know this is very sudden, and out of nowhere, but I hope you all understand.

See ya, space cowboy.

(Again in a month, I mean)

Nope, that Plog's dead in the water... for now at least. Probably better to start an individual blog. Side note, does anyone here remember BrotherSRM? He hasn't posted here in years, before my time on DakkaDakka. He writes for Goonhammer nowadays, but it's worth checking out his old SM and IG blogs, huge inspiration for my P&M Blogs, even though I joined long after he left.

Thank you so much! This really means a lot, nice to see a fellow fan post here. I'll be keeping an eye on your Flesh Tearers blog, I almost regret choosing the 'vanilla' chapter of the Sons of Sanguinius. You can expect another chaplain in a month or so, I'm sure you've seen the post about putting this project on hiatus. Again, I appreciate you commenting here! Thanks!

If you’re anything like me, I flip flop from projects anyway. I started my flesh tearers when space marine heroes came out and got distracted 😅 Seems i won’t be using any of the models I originally bought. So I’m sure you’ll take a break from that soon enough.

I was original meant first tearers back in 4th Ed, but that turned into a blood ravens army (which Ive mainly sold now). I did blood angels back in 2nd Ed, they are a fun army, but tearers seem a better fit. Good with the Catachan, they should be fun to paint.
