Hello folks.

I'm busily clipping off my bits and trying to get a some workable 1500pt lists for my Enforcers and Plague. Anyone had a flick through the Army Lists and got anything interesting at this point level?

While these lists are essentially to run demos, I would like them to be somewhat thematic to the forces, but without any reinforcements or SHs they might be a bland... Hurry up, retail!

And, shameless plug, I'll be doing a fait bit of Epic Warpath stuff on my channel:

https://www.youtube.com/@TableTopMagpie

Please do drop your EWP thoughts and WIPs and lists and everything in here.

Cheers!

Lee.

The GCPS sprue is looking amazing, we finally get the Lancer tank after all these years!

Each of the sprues is really great, and reminds me of the old epic sprues.

I'm going to have a think about colour schemes and try to make something really distinct for each of the 8 factions.

How tall is a normal GCPS human miniature? Enforcers and Plague cannot be used to check the scale since those are tall superhuman models.

Colour schemes... I was going standard white with the Enforcers, but have decided to break it up a bit with black tanks/vehicles, Heavy Ops will have red armour, Assault ops will have yellow helmets, and so on.

Plague will be a bit of a mish mash. Purple basecoat, heavy zenithal of a light brown, pick out some gribbly bits then probably an enamel grime wash. Vehicles will be different colours and rusted up.

I would think the Zombies are pretty close to human scale in this, and side by side the enforcers are about a head taller. A rough tape measure comparison puts the zombie at 10mm tall.

At least the dead zone versions of enforcer pathfinder, normal enforcer, gcps soldier, and marinette are all roughly the same height. So comparing any of them for check scale is probably close enough.

I'd be interested to know accurate heights of the various factions as well. Ideally a to-the-eye height, but to of head could be ok. I skipped the crowdfund, but are still considering these as a source of infantry for my 10mm sci-fi forces if they scale up well.

Amazingly, nobody who received their pledge so far had the skill or the means to measure an infantryman, nor a base, and we've been asking.

Someone on FB seriously told me they can't because they don't own a tape measure.

We should be able to get a comparison photo of the new bases vs. the Mantic round redibases at the very least. We know the size of those.

Mantic have posted a faction break down here in an older update on Kickstarter but I've not seen this elsewhere or in the rulebook.

not surprised at all given the only one (literally the only one) who measured the size of the LI models was a guy from germany who is doing reviews on his blog

Imagine playing that person, just eyeballing their ranges because they don't have a tape measure

I measured a Zombie and an Enforcer the other day.

OK that's not actually very clear, apologies.

Heights (base to top of head)

Zombies - 10mm

Ghouls - 12mm

Bloaters - 15mm

Leapers - 14/15mm (they are a bit hunched over)

Enforcers - 12mm

Peace Keepers - 13mm

Old Mantic Rounds - 25mm

New EWP bases - 30mm

I got my pledge today (US) with 1/2 of my factions; I got Nameless and Plague, I'm waiting still for GCPS and Marauders.

I also got a pile of buildings, but no real clue on how to assemble them. They seem pretty simple, but nearly every piece looks like ... a roof. There are very few pieces with doors or anything that looks like a wall.

Mantic, if you're seeing this, could you put together a guide showing a few recommended ways to assemble the buildings? I'm not quite sure how to assemble these all... Or rather, I'm afraid I'll build them, and miss some really cool combo I didn't see, or glue all the walls as roofs, or roofs as walls... lol

How have people who got their stuff fared so far with missing pieces? I am missing a few 3D printed pieces in my reinforcements but that's it. Quality on everything has been great.

I added some ideas to the N&R thread

https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/1620/786779.page#11771153

There’s really no set way to put these together so I can see why a guide would be difficult to do. Most panels have an obvious top and bottom just make sure they are orientated correctly or you will have an upside down or sideways window or door. The white panels are good for walls and grey for floors but you can mix them.

Stress test printing now - just a variety tray of Marauder and Veermyn infantry, without checking the quality of presupports. Based on Mantic: Almost, I don't expect great things.

I've also had official confirmation from their guy that their unhinged looking part cuts were optimized for spin casting, as I suspected. They'd have probably saved some labour even for themselves (let alone customers) on presupports and on print on demand if they went back and optimized for printing. I personally will merge and recut and resupport all vehicles myself rather than wash&cure&glue 3mm sized bits like flyer wing tips.

Update: First print mostly came out fine, and the infantry is lovely. But the price for good detail and poses is high in the complexity of support removal. Doing a tray of the remaining Veermyn infantry and some Dorfs now.

Post by: Pacific

Got the Forge Fathers, Plague, Nameless starters. First impressions are the miniatures are lovely, really clean and crisp plastic that are simple to assemble. Albertorius has done some lovely-looking minis above and hoping they will take speed paints well. I've ordered some mdf bases for my vehicles, but realise that is a personal thing.

Started to read the rulebook and I will tell you it is a breath of fresh air compared to others I have read recently (Horus Heresy & Legions Imperialis I am looking at you!) Clearly composed, nicely edited and presented, and feels like it has been written by humans for humans (this will sound like a ridiculous thing to say, unless you have tried to read the new HH book!) No pages of telling you how to hold a tape measure or that you can't shoot dead models removed as casualties. Some lovely artwork inside too, and I like that not only do they credit the game creators but the playtesters too, of which there are many.

Interestingly learned from the live question feed yesterday, they were apparently first planning to release in autumn 2023 then learned of the other company down the road releasing their new game. So I think the game we have now is a lot more padded out (a lot more complete) as a result. Looking forward to giving it a playtest.

Reposting here some Nameless ^^

I printed a bit of everything:

A unit of gunslingers (some of the supports failed, and some broke when trying to remove them from the supports... they're a tiny bit too spindly unfortunately:

Two units of Magnumites, which are delightfully huge:

Two units of bargocysts, which feel like they'd be useful (also, flying transports with hand guns xD):

Two units of bathomites, because killing lobsters:

Couple of Goliaths:

Kuttunid and psychotroid leaders:

And the big guys:

Had a couple of minor support failures on the latropod body, but easily fixable:

Family photo to show the scale of everything:

And a quick paintjob of the gunslingers, just using contrast-like paints:

Yeah, the way they've split the parts is a bit idiotic, for 3d printing. Ah well, I made the mistake of printing the Nameless super heavies as they came, but no more.

Assembled one each of the Veer-myn and Nameless sprues:

Also, did a quick check: for the Nameless, just with what's on the sprues, you get almost 2500 points.

It's a bit insane xD

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The asterians sprue, OTOH, feels a little bit dinky, in comparison:

And the box build you about 1750 points, which is... a very significant difference, for no reason that I can discern.

And when you check the sprues, you'll see that the asterians sprue seems... different xD.

The middle one is the asterians, left nameless (and the "regular" size one) and the right one Marauders ("big" size for them)

I.... why? They could have certainly crammed some more infantry bases in there, if they so have chosen... but they didn't. And it doesn't seem to be points. I guess the budget went somewhere else xD.

Thanks for those scale shots. The buggies look pretty good scale-wise.

The walkers are way too small but ironically they wouldn't look nearly as small if the window wasn't broken away to reveal the bust of a tiny pilot sitting there. Also, sculpted damage never looks great when you've got several identical examples sitting next to each other.

I have been doing test prints of the Epic Warpath stls all through September, but have not been focusing on them as I was concerned that they may not be scaled to match the core set plastics... my pledge arrived today and I was worried about nothing since both fit together nicely.

All of the plastics are in line with GCPS and Marauder prints so far, Humans are all 12mm tall, and the Orcs are between 17 – 18mm tall allowing for their base stances. The only real difference I see so far is that the core plastics have slightly thinner legs, but the plastic is very good quality so there should be no issues with breakage, not at all like issues I continually had with the infantry resin prints.

Excellent!

I have this

Threw all the Marauder plastics into the list builder and they come to 2650 pts just for the starter

However, any resin reinforcements will displace plastic units in the list as there are no more unlocks available and no printable Troops, so you can't really push much above that point level no matter how much you print. Hopefully that will change with the MMF campaign.

Looking mighty fine, I'd love to see some marauders painted up ^^

The asterians have a bit of the same problem... there's only 4 troops on the army box (2 marionettes unit, 1 marionette phlogisters unit and another of cypher wardens... and that's it), but at least kalyshi are STLs... but then again, they're not exactly what I'd expect to see as a core of the army, so.... dunno.

As for the campaign, it would be cool if they added some more sculpts, and yes, core troops in digital files please ^^

This is slog, due to all the crazy detail on the infantry

Fingerless gloves, people

Done a unit's worth of heavy weapon guys (so 24) and 6 stuntbots in an afternoon... expected to go through at least 3 times that.

ooh those Marauders look good with paint. And I like the more neutral brown of the walkers.

I too am immensely pleased with the quality of the plastic and sculpts.

I'm so excited to get this on the table. I've decided not to paint it all first, I want to start playing. So hopefully I will not regret basing everything now, but that is the decision I made.

Cheers guys (but please stop quoting entire swathes of pictures)

Here's a basing test

GSW Light Earth texture over AK Mahogany Brown, then a blend of brown/red washes. Not in love with how the texture behaves, it seems to be just paint with sand, no "paste" to add volume where there's no sand particles. GSW 2mm tufts.

So! First game!

Regular battle scenario, 1.000 points 4'x4' table with the scenery configuration:

Default game length with the following options:

- Deployment zone: Longest table edges ("longest" being "up and down" on the above pic ^^)
- Objectives: Placed by the players. Three dynamic objectives on the table and two static objectives, one on each player deployment zone (On the above map, the players put the static objectives one the northern ruins and on the southern bridge, while the three dynamic ones were places on the northern bridge, the middle forest and the top edge of the southern ruins. All three dynamic objectives started disabled (we rolled for each, I didn't find anything about it on the rules).
- Scoring: For taking any objective: static and active objectives gave 3 points on turns 1,2 and 3, and 5 points from turn 4 onwards.
Reserves ratio: No reserves allowed except a Unit allows it by itself.

Plague player won the recon roll so chose the northern deployment zone and started deploying units. The Veer-myn player placed the Tunnelers and Nightmares on Reserve and won the first Initiative roll.

First turn

Plague sprints en masse towards the two center objectives, while a ghouls detachment advances towards the close ruins to defend their deployment zone objective. On the other side, the Veer-myn player takes the bridge and the ruins, and moves the tunnel runners to the middle hill so that they have a good firing point, which then uses to blast one of the Mule trucks and force all the Ghouls inside to dismount and pinning them briefly (they removed the Pin marker at the end of the turn). The Plague artillery fires towards the southern bridge, but the shots deviate a bit, so it ends up hitting both the crawlers on the bridge and the Rumblers... but to no effect whatsoever.

Second turn

The Plague Horde continues its advance towards the forests in the middle of the table unopposed and takes the northern bridge, while the surviving Mules run past it towards the Tunner Runners, that decide to retreat from their exposed position. Meanwhile the tunnelers appear on the Plague's deployment zone and disgorge a horde of nightmares, that promptly assault and overrun the plague artillery, and then take shots from the Ghouls in the ruins and the Plague walkers. At the same time, the veer-myn Rumblers and the progenitor start taking pot shots to the ghouls on the bridge, but fail to do much.

Third turn

The plague Leapers cross the forest and gets shot to pieces by some incredibly lucky sustained attack rolls, while the tunnelers and the nightmares assault the ghouls hiding in the ruins, while the plague walkers decide to join in on the fun. The Tunner Runners destroy the surviving Mules, but then get shot and pinned by the Ghouls on the bridge. The zombies take and hold the center objective, and the Aberrations decide to go kill everything near the mountains.

The assault on the ruins ends up badly for the rats, that get destroyed to the last, but manage to kill some Ghouls and two walkers.

Fourth turn

Not a lot of pics here I'm afraid.

The progenitor manages to kill the last leapers while the brood mother flees from the abominations and orders the creepers to cover he retreat. The abominations promptly take the hind and assault the creepers. The Rumblers reposition to try and take a shot off the abominations, while the plague walker tries to catch up, and fails.

The abominations eat the creepers whole without a single back hit, and the rumblers shot at them after, to no effect, so they continue unabated towards the southern ruins.

Fifth turn

Things look very bleak for the rats at this point, but they plod on... the progenitor advances to try and force the ghouls off the bridge while the brood mother tries to take the center objective, and the tunnel runners keep moving and taking pot shots towards the bridge. They manage to destroy a couple bases, but not enough to pin or destroy them.

Meanwhile, the zombi horde finally manages to reach something... namely the brood mother, so they assault her en masse. Some get killed along the way and during the actual assault, but at the end of the day the brood mother joins their ranks.

The abominations assault the defenders of the southern ruins, which manage to at least singe them (they remove the Resilient token), but get killed to a rat in the process.

The roll said there was a 6th turn, but we all saw no point, as the Plague was too far up the points ladder that the veer-myn had no way to recover, so we called the game.

So, victory for the plague, and we had fun. The game is easy enough, tactical and moves fast. So far, we like it.

As you might know, my favorite flavor of Epic is 3rd edition, and in comparison with that I'd say that Epic Warpath is better on some things and worse on others: assaults are MUCH better, and it's something that's always been a pet peeve of our group. Command points that generate per turn and you have to use or lose are great, and the actual orders you can use them on are very flavorful. Drop pods (subterranean deployment) is quite similar, but less dangerous in the sense that it's much harder to kill off you whole detachment, which honestly, is good, although 3rd edition's drop pod rules are hilarious. Indirect fire rules are in an almost perfect niched of detailed and simple enough, so I like them.

On the neutral, Pinning is simpler, but feels much more niche (it only happens on a couple of scenarios in comparison) and is all or nothing (you're suppresed or you're not). I like that it's easy to use in game and it actually impacts the game, but I like 3rd edition's granularity more, and the fact that it applies on everything, and you can shoot stuff, not kill anything, but still degrade their effectiveness.

On the "negative" I personally prefer total detachment firepower + special attacks instead of the way EWP does weapons (dice per base, hit-damage-save... it's OK, I guess, but I prefer 3rd).

Which is compounded with the other thing I "dislike" from the game, which is list building.

It is... perfectly OK, but not very flexible, and units are always exactly the same, without any mixing whatsoever. Which works to the way the system works... but I fething LOVE the way Epic 3rd does army building, as you can make all manner of flavorful and whacky detachments, and everything still just works, you know?

As it is now, the companies you can make in EPW are very samey, in the sense that they all are infantry companies with some support. I expect this will get expanded along the way.

In general, it's a very cool game that doesn't overstay its welcome, fast enough and streamlined. Very much what I was expecting from reading the rules.

Getting started in - between assembly. Just want to paint bots to experiment with colors and secure my basing plan.

My approach is going to be a bit of black on the arms and top two lines, metal on the weapons, panel liner all around the crevices if needed, and a vibrant blue on the windshield to match my Marauder orc skin.

Wish me luck.

Hm... it's hard to say at this point as I haven't actually tested anything else, but the player didn't seem to have any problem about it. The game itself is pretty straightforward.

The rats did have a hard time dealing with the Plague abominations, though, as they were really hard.

Out of interest, for those who have played the game, is it worth getting the reinforcement boxes? Or are you finding you have enough variety in games with the standard army box plastics? Was looking at the extras, but yiu can only buy them direct and they are not cheap.

A bit of a complicated question there... yes and no.

Yes, the reinforcements are totally worth it because they add unit types and options. No, the actual physical reinforcement sets are not that worth it, because of the actual amount of stuff you get in them. A single unit of each reinforcement, without being able to choose extras if don't get the whole set is... not ideal, without the convenience of them being plastics or cheap.

I'd say get them digital and print/have printed as many as you want of the ones you want.

Trying to figure out what, if anything, I should use the 30% discount that is going on. I plan on getting stl.s at some point so the reinforcements don't seem like a good idea because of the limited unit types, for example you want more aircraft than just two, so was considering two starters for factions I didn't get with the KS. I thought about Big Ed the mega crab for Nameless but then I'd have to wait till January for everything. I don't how often Mantic stuff goes on sale and for how much, is 30% good enough to go ahead and pull the trigger now?

From a KS update a few weeks ago:

We’ve created a special discount code you can use BEFORE we send your 2nd package.

If you would like to add any further Epic Warpath items to your pending delivery - please use the following code on the Mantic Games webstore - EWP30WAVE2 - this will grant you 30% off ANY Epic Warpath item listed there. We will then bundle this with your pending delivery and send both out to you in one go. This helps us spread the costs incurred from dual shipping, and gives you one more chance to grab anything you missed before (Or indeed add to your armies now you’ve been playing a little with the list builder!) and had a chance to see how cool this range is!
This code will work on any Epic Warpath product until the 31st October.

I have no real comparison for the gameplay as I never got around actually playing LI simply because how the rules were written and how complicated things I never bothered trying

Something between LI (E:W is simpler, but keeping the versatile orders) and Epic: Armageddon (E:W is simpler but not as much as tactical, E:W doesn't have the allocate hits one by one and roll saves one by one thing luckily).

I'm back from my first game and my brain is fried

The activation battle is real and brutal, and with the elite Marauders I was on the losing side in every phase vs Plague, always having to commit everything while my opponent saved his best to counter me. Along with rolling about a 3.0 average on D8s, it ended up with a tabling by turn 4.

The various action tokens work exceptionally well however, very clear and clean.

Yes, I will burn the mantic dice and play again. I have no complaints about the rules so far, and I do love to complain. It's only a matter of getting a feel for the activation system and the balance between killing and scoring (i.e how much of your force is worth sacrificing to take a 3VP objective for 1 round, etc)

My only worry is that I will have to play with the local hardcore Blood Bowl group (who got into EWP en masse for some reason) and not my casual group, it might be too unforgiving for them.
