A reboot as the old thread was tearing itself apart at the seams.

To kick things off, have popped various BattleTech support vehicles off their bases and applied basing material to them.

I'm going to strip some older models I just picked up yesterday, after photographing them so I can redo the same paint scheme but upto slingtly better standards

Finishing up some Skaven and then I have to spend the rest of the weekend storing a bunch of models I have lying around as my hobby space is an absolute mess.

Action figure customization wise? Just purchased a junker non-jacketed Black Knight and a Walgreens exclusive Medusa for my Ultraverse custom project and am waiting for them to arrive. Once they are here Medusa's hair will finish off Foxfire while the REST of Medusa will be going to make Veil. Black Knight's arms will be going onto my jacketed Black Knight with the vest portion of his jacket being set aside for the Ironclad custom I have planned and I will be using the extra Moira MacTaggart hair to give Black Knight the mullet he rocked while leading Ultraforce. THEN I get to decide if I really want to attempt 5 o'clock shadow on Knight's face...

With the Trygon done, tonight begins work on some Despoilers! I gave them a lot of equipment, so expecting a few nights of pre-assembly cleanup.

I just had my first-ever Warhammer battle! It went pretty well. We were playing Combat Patrol, and we didn't finish the whole game as he already had plans to play a 3,000-point game against some of his friends, but it went well, and I even was able to kill one of his squads of those little Necron bug things (I forget what they're called). I was playing the older Ork Combat Patrol, and he was playing the Necron Combat Patrol. I even got some free Ork Miniatures that someone had donated to the store!

I sat up late and built a bunch more Matsudan. I've got 9 more to build today.
They were the last sci fi boxes I had left in my Pile, so it'll be great to get them done. Just decided to keep going after building the zombies since I couldn't paint anything just yet.

I finished base painting, mostly, a cute pinup style PanO Fusilier from Infinity. Regretting priming her with Grey Seer, rather than black. PanO might be my secondary faction after JSA as I have a Tech Bee, a Tikbalang and quite a few other minis, so it might make 300pts, but I doubt it.

I also made quite a bit more progress on my new version of Attelus. Happy with how he's looking so far.

Turning an Empire Wizard Wagon into the Sister of Battle Saint's Funeral Procession except it will be for my Adeptus Arbites and use Stormcast Jawas as the mourners.

Reading one of my 2 RT rule books.

Building a Lokhust Heavy Destroyer painting Skitarii Battle-Pilgryms and Darkwater Tokens (and maybe Aleya?), then recording a podcast this evening.

Built some kitbashed Matsudan heavy assault and a leader. Used some Grey Knights bits I had left over to give the infantry two swords and made a halberd for the leader.

Was a bit fiddly but with some shaving the marine hands fit nicely onto the matsudan arms. I also stuck some back banners from Dark Eldar Kabalites and the Raider kit onto them to make them look a bit more samurai.

Managed to cut my index finger on my left hand three times in exactly the same place due to my fantastic knife technique.

Going to build a platoon of Japanese tanks for Flames of War & maybe get a small game of 40k in.

Build another squad of Krieg with tiny legend heads this week alongside a few bolter Krieg from tiny legend.

Once everything is dried need to clear some mould lines

Finished off my matsudan assembly. Phew! I like the designs on the models but I disliked the assembly, so I'm glad that's over.

As expected, in laws visiting has eaten available time but I'm going to try to keep doing a bit every day.

5 Japanese Type4 Chi-To tanks for Flames of War built & base coated.

This week I have mostly been adding brass colours to my Warlord and painting a few more marines and guardsmen for the base. Was about to undercoat the armour but my compressor shuffled off it's mortal coil after 15 years of loyal service.

Built my first LI Whirlwind. Still struggling to find some place where I can use my airbrush, so painting projects arent really progressing at the mo

Made a lot of progress on my new version of Attelus' miniature. Pretty happy with him so far.

Did a bit more work on the bust I currently have in progress - Magnus the Outsider Bard clicky. Trying to add some texture to his black leather vest. Not sure if it's quite worked, but it's OK.

Also started work on my Foul Flatmates (Richie and Eddie from Bottom) from Crooked Dice - clicky

After ordering some grass tufts, I finally updated the bases of a unit for Old World! Pretty happy with the look there.

I'll be stripping in 1993 Chaos Space Marine with a plasma gun so I can get to work on my hunter/hunted submission, as well as finishing getting the little flecks of paint out of all the crevices of my old second edition Marines I just stripped

Had the kid's game day today. We played Grimdark Future: Firefight. Used my new version of Attelus Kaltos, and he didn't do too bad, new model syndrome didn't hurt him too much. But he should've done better, statistically speaking. Was fun. When I got home I made sure to fix the broken finger of "Pointy Guy" a Stormtrooper proxy I bought from Etsy who in a pointing pose that the kids meme'd into being a god and love for some reason. I broke off his finger while painting him ages back and replaced it with green stuff which had been threating to fall off for months and it finally happened today. So, when I got home I made damned frigging sure to re green stuff his finger or there would be hell to pay, lol. Then I painted Attelus' new mini a bit more.

Spraying my matsudan, slapchopping some zombies and then a little bit of exploratory building of some Mantic Dwarves I've had for ages with some Oathmark Heavy Infantry. I'm planning to use the Heavy Infantry to make 20 Ironbreakers and 10 Hammerers, and then beef out the remaining hammerers to 20 with 10 Mantic Dwarves.
They actually scale alright with the Oathmark guys - roughly the same height, a bit bulkier but not outrageously so. And Oathmark heads fit alright on the one body without a head, which is nice because they're much more dwarfy and characterful than the Mantic heads. I can also use the spare hammer heads to turn some of the axes and maces on the Oathmark sprue into hammers, which is nice!

Reviewed some custom printed parts I have purchased for future conversions (one of my upcoming units will be my first unit that is mainly assembled from printed parts) and at first I was worried everything was not in scale just right.

...But since no one seemed to mind my Praetor, maybe it will be okay.

Decided to pull all Solar Auxilia boxes I have out of storage for inventory and take stock of what's left to build, including all of the rifleman sprues to see how many Tercios I could make from them.

Too many, need to build stuff, not just hoard it.



So, to make a dent in the pile I built a Dracosan instead, as a warming up for the repetitive madness that is.. 95 models, give or take, as the command sets come with an extra model.

At least I have another Dracosan and Leman Russ to look forward to afterwards.

About to start the last half of assembly on a TK Bone Dragon.
I'm rather tired of building TK stuff.... But the end is in sight. 1/2 the Dragon & 1 sphinx to go.

Made quite a lot more progress on this newest version of Attelus Kaltos' Hero Forge mini today, he's very close to being done. Him and the cute PanO Fusilier girl, too! I should be doing terrain, but I want to get them done first! The NMM on Attelus' sword is looking better, but I have to get both sides of the blade to look as good as the other. I also have to finish his leathers, too.

Kept going with putting together some Hammerers.

I love North Star kits. Body, 2 arms and a head and you've got a model ready to go, but lots of options to customise and kitbash too if you want. My perfect sweet spot when it comes to plastic.

Okay finally finished off the last couple of Skaven I had base coated.



Three of my Skaven Packmasters done and ready to lead my Rat Ogres to their inevitable doom. Not much to say about them, I painted them like all my other Skaven. Much like all older GW models they have nice chunky detail so they were fun to paint.

Alright, next up I'm casting some spare parts for another project so hopefully I'll have them done for the weekend.

Attempting to spray paint over 3,000 points of Tomb Kings, and realizing that storing spray paint cans on their sides may indeed ruin them.

Built the other Dracosan, tomorrow I'll start on the infantry, promise.

Made quite a lot more progress on new Attelus Kaltos. Worked on highlighting his leather bits and tried to smooth up the transitions on the other side of his sword. Also, almost finished my cute PanO Fusilier chick, just have to highlight her rifle and base her, now.

Built half of an Auxilia Basilisk and a Centaur AFV, fun little build. Tomorrow I'll do the infantry, promise.

Built a unit of Galahad power armor & a unit of Mk.I Automated Infantry with HMGs for my K47 Brits.

I really dislike building those metal MK.Is.

I painted the vine on fours separate xenos ruined walls scatter terrain by Mantic. Decided to try paint four of them for the each of the next few nights. Got ten left plus another box, now. If I keep that low, and incentivize myself by painting something I want to after it, I might push through it.

Built the second Centaur Hippogriff, the Centaur and Praetorian tank from the Armageddon set, along with completing the Auxilia Basilisk.

I gotta say..

Been putting some colour on my Wargames Atlantic halflings, which I'm building to proxy the Age of Sigmar: City of Ash Spearhead set. I used the Baker rifles from the WA British riflemen set, chopped them off at the wrist, and popped them on halfling arms to make guns like the set's Grenadiers. The goose is a metal Gangs of Rome one.

Plastic Commisar Yarick built & base coated.

I finished painting the vines on the set four xeno strong hold ruins scatter terrain bits, including the turret. Then I assembled the alien jungle plants.

Building the Hammerers and Ironbreakers got me so excited that I jumped into assembling my Oathmark Elves as High Elf Archers and Spearmen.

I'd been intending to do them as LOTR Noldor but I've decided I'm going to make a High Elf army for Warhammer instead. They fit just about on the 20mms if you put them at a slight angle, which doesn't look too bad especially on the spears. I've never been a fan of the basic infantry for High Elves from GW but I love the Oathmark kits. I have some Heavy Infantry I'm going to build 16 White Lions out of and bulk my Swordmasters from IoB to 16 and also my Pheonix Guard. And an ill conceived box of Mantic Elf Cavalry that are going to be used as Silver Helms (the Oathmark Cav is miles nicer but unbarded).

Was supposed to do something else, but instead I built my Tempestus Aquilons and the accompanying Volkus terrain.

Huron Blackheart & his Masters of the Maelstrom are now assembled.
Basecoating to come soon.

We had a rained in day, so I was quite productive. Finished painting the vines on on the 1st kit of alien ruins or fortress I think it's called? I also primed and zenithal highlighted the 2nd half of the alien fortress.

Spent a bit of time sorting through sprues to get the next stage of my High Elf building underway. Some WA Skeleton Chariots with spare horses are going to be High Elf Chariots, and I've rooted out some cloaks for the Oathmark Heavy Infantry for my White Lions.

My sprue clippers died on me though! Disaster!

Painted up a pair of KT ammo markers, smoke grenades and halfway through two minefield tokens, but need to rebase those to better blend the tokens into the base.

I finished the Marshcrawla Sloggoth last night. Which I began back in the old thread lol.

Priorities have shifted.
My girlfriend needs space for her diamond art supplies & board to go that is easily accessible in the apartment.
That means I am moving some projects that have languished out of my area and into my storage unit.

Once that is settled, we will see what I work on.
I really should finish off painting my Wookiee Legion force.
But I will probably build something new instead...

Redoing the bases of my minefield markers and about to make a start on a Scion.

Also painted up a Highlander 'mech.

Kitbashing Oathmark Heavy Infantry into White Lions. Just adding some cloaks from Fireforge Teutonic infantry and Victrix Fantasy sprues to the axe wielding Heavy Infantry. Working well so far, the cloaks stick out a bit which looks cool but I'm having to be careful with how I put them on their bases to allow for ranking up.

I'm really pleased with how the North Star kits are looking so far, and I am going to test fit some north star cavalry elves onto mantic barded horses to see if I can maintain the cohesive look for the army while remaining WYSWYG.

Last night I built my elf chariots using the skeleton chariots from Wargames Atlantic and their horses. They fit perfectly onto the yokes for the skeleton chariots which is great. The biggest PITA was cutting the puddle bases off the warriors I'm using as chariot crew, but I managed it with only one foot damaged that I rebuilt with a bit of shaved plastic. Keeping them off the chariots for now so I can paint them all before gluing everything down.

I'm getting ever more excited about the prospect of a finished High Elf army as I go, I wanted a "Good Guy" army to do intro games with and I felt my Dwarves were not the best choice because they don't really let you play the whole game. High Elves have a little bit of everything and are nice and elite, so doing an intro game of Goblins vs. High Elves should have the right classic feel and aesthetic but also give my opponent a chance to try out all the different unit types.

Tonight I will build Kravek Morne.

Finished painting a Krieg Commisar

I've been working on making a custom 3d printed nightlords predator tank. It's just your standard 30k demos pattern, but I'm adding spikes, skulls, and other iconography to it. ( and to those that complain its 3d printed, does have some Games Workshop plastic on it. The main section of this front spike is actually from a rhino or some other sort of vehicle, and some of the spikes are made from sprue). I'm also going to 3D print a Nightlord's logo for the back ramp/door thing.

Wrapped up the minefield markers and about done with this Scion.



Next up, priming some random pieces of Volkus terrain, for that next rainy day off.

I was able to pick up some old metal LOTR Ringwraiths on Ebay relatively cheap because they were missing their arms.

Luckily I already had some with arms so I can cast replacements in greenstuff. The last one of which I just finished. Now it's just a matter of putting them all together and basing them. Soon I will have 9 mounted Ringwraiths to go with my 9 unmounted ones.

White Lions regiment is finished now, just digging out my unpainted Island of Blood to have a look at them. I'm going to add 6 North Star Swordmasters to the unit from IOB and 2 Sea Guard. They'll be a lot less fancy but I'll put them at the back of the unit and I think it'll be okay. I'm also planning on using spare parts from the Pheonix Guard kit to add two more to that unit, but that will involve greenstuffing some cloaks I think.

But not far from having all the infantry done.

As a complete surprise, tonight I will be building my MTO Steel Rook & Kroot Hunter!

They just arrived. No shipping notice, no tracking #. And at least a month earlier than I expected mto wise.
Also no invoice in/on the box.

Finished the Despoilers! A good day.

Next up a Land Raider Explorator. I've already built and basecoated it alongside another tank in advance (basecoating both together saves time), so it's moving right on to the edge highlighting stage of the armour plating, then the steel and other details.

Worked on the Volkus scatter terrain and primed a pair of Scions along with a Kasrkin sergeant, will see if I can get them done this weekend.

Also made a start on reading Hot Spots: Draconis Reach, looks like I'll be rebooting the campaign at some point for sure now.

Continuing to replace Imgur links to Dakka saved ones. Orks are done, half way through the Eldar.

Today was a bit of a slog - I had two pretty brief bits of free time to work and I tried to get some assembly done.

I'd glued my Swordmasters to 25mm rounds thinking I would use them for LOTR. But I've decided to use them for WFB, so I've had to submit to my most hated activity- rebasing! I got all 10 of them done in one sitting.

Then tonight I sat up way too late when everyone was asleep making 10 Phoenix Guard. I like these guys, but assembly is a pain. The torso doesn't seem to sit properly on the legs, and you've got to be very careful with all the halberds, winged helms and cloaks to make sure they can rank up.

I'm gonna bulk up both units with some Oathmark Heavy Infantry and some spare halberds and winged helms. Should get to 16 Swordmasters and 12 Phoenix Guard. All I have to do then is rebase my Seaguard and I'm done with High Elf infantry.

Tonight I am reading my 2nd edition Chaos Codex.

Working on the forearms of my new monster. Running low on Greenstuff too.

Going wash & layer up the paint on my Rogal Dorn for my HPC, then decal maybe if the paint gods are kind. Weathering tomorrow?

No time for any proper hobby stuff but I have been reading my 6th ed Warhammer Fantasy rulebook in free moments.

I love this book. Reading it, I have to say I really prefer the conversational tone of the rules writing to the more legalistic approach taken in a lot of more modern games. I also enjoy from a pedagogical standpoint that they often repeat themselves, as it helps to drive home the ideas and helps in remembering them.

6e was the edition I played the longest so it's burned into my brain in any case. The only part I struggle to remember is the different distances for panic due to other panicking units, panic due to broken or destroyed units, and stuff like the distance a character needs to be from a regiment to be untargetable. I wish instead of having varying 4", 5" and 6" distances they'd just all been 5" instead or something!

Managed to get the Kasrkin sergeant done, more or less.



Also chipping away at the Volkus scatter and doing some preliminary work on a rebooted solo campaign for BT.

Sorting out my Elf cavalry this morning and picked up some second hand saurus for cheap.

The mantic Elves fit nicely on the Oathmark Horses and vice versa, which is great. I'll use Oathmark bodies on barded mantic horses for my silver helms and use the mantic bodies with oathmark arms on unbarded oathmark horses down the line to do some glade guard.

I'm happy about this because I was a bit annoyed at myself for buying the Mantic cavalry and then a few months later the much nicer oathmark kit came out, but now I have a decent use for all the kits.

I made SpruGoo for the first time and made a couple of thin sheets, and while one was still pliable used it and ripped it up to add some skin to my Night Lords Predator tank, base coated my first Night Lord, which is supposed to be for this month's painting competition, and blocked in the red on his plasma rifle. Cringing inwardly, knowing that I'm screwing it up very badly, I also added in the black on the Blaster, and now have to redo a large chunk of red. At least I'm using ProAcryl, so it coats pretty well. These unsteady hands are trying their best, and this is exactly why I prefer the building side of things to painting XP

Built 3 more TK Ushtabi with great weapons.

1 Sphinx & 1/2 a TK bone dragon to go & everything TK I own will be built.

Then comes a lot of base coating.

That's the Explorator done, very quick!

Now on to something unusual and exciting: Rewards of Treachery Dark Furies. The general opinion I got after probing the 30k community is that people prefer Rewards of Treachery be depicted not with the original unit in AL colours, but rather a top-to-bottom AL unit with WYSIWYG equipment.

Accordingly, this'll be my first unit that's almost entirely assembled of themed prints I got off etsy. I generally prefer working with plastic, but here the options seemed worthwhile. And the upside is that cleaning up printed parts is very fast. No mould lines!

Not much getting done, mostly paint stripping on models I want to repaint. But in the mean time I decided to finish an NPC I can use for D&D or any other skirmish game.




So one traveling merchant 3D print I bought. Not much to him, just base coat, wash, highlight. He's a background character so I don't need to get too crazy with him.
Anyway, ow to clear off another small project I've been working on.

I assembled 15 metal Blue Horrors that I've had in a bag for who knows how long.

Then I de-sprued 5 Melusai Archers to clean & assemble today.

I've finally finished painting my first Samurai group! 68 models, 2 units of pike ashigaru, 2 units of gun/bow ashigrau, 1 unit of spear samurai, 1 unit of spear cavalry, and the general stand.

Now I just need to check if my airbrush still works to varnish them, and add the tufts/static grass.

Had the kid's miniature game club today. We played 350pts of Grimdark Future: Firefight, this time on a 4x4 matt instead of our usual 22x30. It worked well. It was Attelus and Karmen's team vs a team led by my sci fi novel main characters, Azakir and Sela. The scenario was Smash and Grab. I got trounced. My dice rolls were awful, so much so, the kid who plays was somewhat empathetic because usually he revels in my pain, lol. Was a lot of fun though, especially for him, which is the whole point of the club, so it worked out well!

Getting a little bit done here and there - finished rebasing (urgh) my IoB elves onto WFB appropriate bases. Made some chariot bases by sticking together some 50mm bases using 25x50s to hold them and 25x25s to fill in the gaps.

And knocked out 6 "swordmasters" from the Oathmark elf heavy infantry kit to make my Swordmasters up to a 16 strong regiment.

Next is adding 2 extra Pheonix Guard and 4 extra Sea Guard, along with two characters on foot from the same kit.

Part of me wishes I'd just done everything with the Oathmark plastics - I just love how they look, even though the IoB plastics are very nice.

Slowly chugging through priming my massive custom orc battle wagon/Battle Fortress. Unfortunately, I'm going to be dropping out of this month's painting competition as I just don't have the time to complete it, as my paints ended up getting delayed and left me with only about a week to work on the model. It also doesn't help that I haven't been painting models for several years, so I'm kind of Rusty.

Mostly just because I like how they look moreso thsn any actual gameplay need.

Been painting my Ork nobz during the last couple of weeks. Built them out of Ironjawz + Bits from Kromlech, Spellcrow, Savage Orks and 40K nobz.

Been waiting about 2 months for an order to show up - held up by the GSW pavement texture roller being out of stock. Just arrived yesterday - and I think it might be the wrong size for what I had in mind... Bah!

Started assembling the final TK kit in my pile - a Necrosphinx.

Still working on my pair of Imperial Bastion. Finished the first one, and closing in on the second now. Pretty fun models overall to paint, if a bit tedious at time! Will be fun to have them done and on the table tho!

Every year, because I'm one of the guys who can, I strive to put something on the table 99% of our players have never seen in person.
(Though with 3d printing this gap is narrowing)

My Phantom is the answer to the shop owners Warlord Titan (real FW)
Real FW vs real vintage ArmorCast.

Finished off my last Elf Heavy Infanty - some kitbashed Swordmasters, Pheonix Guard and Seaguard to bulk out my IoB regiments. And today I assembled some mantic barded horses to sit some North Star elves on as Silver helms.

Even with the hot water trick, the assembly was no fun on these - the horses heads and the connection point both seem to be slightly domed, so that it's like a single point of contact between the two! Come on, at least do one slightly recessed and the other with a little dome. I had to greenstuff all of the heads.

The Warlords owner failed to get the titans torso assembled in time.
So its represented by its legs. :(

It turned out that it was a "Narrative Element" that each team (imperial/non-imperial) got to use x times.
But I did claim:
1 landraider
1 repulsed
2 demon princess
1 unit of Kataphrons (? The ones with the dangerous guns)
1 unit of EC blade guys + character
1 dune stalker

Working my way through three units of Necrons (Skorpekh, Lokhust Heavy Destroyer, Lychguard) while editing audio for my podcast.

Was able to finish 'rusting up' the Leman Russ & Rogal Dorn last night, plus completing all but three of my Vostroyan hobby progress challenge month commitment. Today I'll finish the last three guys and then start rusting up another chimera. Or I'll break out the weathering powders and try my hand at them if I'm feeling spicy.
