Demon prince looks good, but yeah such minis always let you down when trying to focus with the camera

Today, we have the fruits of the 3d printer again. Not painted yet, but I am quite proud of it as I designed these walls myself from scratch in Blender:

Today we have 2 3d-printed Rapiers for my Heresy Imperial Fists.

The rapiers themselves are 100% printed, the crew are a mix of printed parts and bits from the bits box. Definitely came up against the limitations of FDM printing with the crew parts, had to have a few goes to get some of them acceptable.

Here's a Land Raider for my Nurgle Death Guard types.

All 3d-printed! Contrast paints don't work quite so well on these big models, but it's presentable enough and absolutely massive!

That old school LR looks great and wouldn't have guessed you used Contrast on this.

Really nice work on the old school Land Raider, the pleasantly whacky nature of the older tanks really suits a traitor force. I see what you mean about the contrast paints on the body. I've never tried them myself but I guess it makes sense that they work better on more detailed infantry? Luckily since that LR is 80% tanks it doesn't detract from how cool it looks!

Thanks! Yes, Contrast flows nicely into depressions, but large flat surfaces end up a bit streaky - Fine for Nurgle, I guess, but I wouldn't want to use them on any other Marine tank, I think, though there may well be a trick to it that I just don't know...

In a desperate attempt to justify to myself my intention to buy the new Heresy set on Saturday, I am trying to get all (or near as damnit) of my existing Heresy models painted...

In my drive to get all the remaining Heresy stuff done before another fat box of it arrives, I have finished:

1) A Rhino (3d-printed)



2) The 2nd half of the Breacher squad


Only 6 models left outstanding, so it could yet happen

I have no doubt the models that are outstanding will be, well, outstanding Printed rhino nails it, Breachers are great; excellent spot colours on the bases and love the sergeant's helm, too.

Well, I have had some success, the Phalanx Warders are done:


That just leaves Fafnir Rann as an unpainted Horus Heresy model, but he's so detailed that it's put me off starting him, he's going back into the pile of shame for a bit

Indeed - I had to forcibly stop myself from planning more shield guys for my newly-starting Alpha Legion.

On that note, here's a Rhino and the first 5 MkVI beakies!

Rhino is 3d-printed, came out quite nicely, just a few obvious bits on the side panels.

That Rhino print is excellent, from a few feet away on the tabletop I doubt many could tell that it was not a GW model.

The Mark VI marines came out great, really good take on the AL scheme. I really like the silver beaks on the helmets. Cannot wait to see what you add next to your sneaky lads.

First painting action for ages!

My mate is painting up Cursed City so we can play it, but said we had to paint our own character models.

So here's Glaurio ven Alten III in all his foppish glory:



All Contrasts, but with a bit of metallic on the armour. Basing to be done by the game's owner

All contrast? Even the green piping on the jacket? That seems counter-intuitive, given what little I know about how contrast paints are supposed to be used.

That's pretty damn snazzy. Good stuff.

Clearly I don't know how to use contrast paints properly because I've been testing with a yellow I bought but it doesn't seem to look good.

Yes, including the green. I find Contrast is fairly good even for thin areas like that, it's almost like steering the paint into the right areas with the brush rather than brush strokes, I think.

Cheers! They are a mixed bag in terms of quality I have found. This was over a "grey seer" spray undercoat, except for the armour which got a basecoat of a light metallic. I think they suit this sort of model much more than anything with large panels.

Getting the brushes out reminded me that I like painting

So I've finished off these 5 Alpha Legion marines:

Cor. Lovely and shiny. The red martisn bases really work and the other colours really pop too.

Those guys are lovely. The contrast between the bases and the armor really makes the models pop, and the dust on their legs is a nice touch.

Glaurio looks great and suitably brave announcing with his clothing alone that he's coming down the street to hunt some monsters

Alpha Legion look great to, Contrast over metal (if indeed that's how you've done it) is always looking amazing.

Plastic models, with 3d-printed parts to turn them into Siege Tyrants (usually Iron Warriors only, but AL can steal other legions' cool stuff)

Here are 2 LOTR figures - The "defenders of Helm's Deep" taking inspiration from 2 characters from the films.



Feel slightly suckered as I bought them at Warhammer World where they were on a shelf proclaiming them to be "WW exclusive" - Turns out that wasn't true and they are freely available on the website! Still, nice figures...

Had another burst of painting enthusiasm and got these DKOK Ogryns done - Got them from the ShieldWolf kickstarter a while ago...

A pretty simple paintjob to match the rest of the army.

They are cool, yeah, the assembly was a bit awkward as the arm joints don't look good in most alignments.

After I painted those, I started work straight away on a Praetor for my 30k Alpha Legion. Then immediately lost all interest in him, for some unknowable mojo-sapping reason.

So he's gone back in the drawer, and I have painted a bit of LOTR terrain! The Amon Hen fallen statue head thing from Forge World.

Inspired by my having some LOTR figures out to paint, the junior slinkies decided to play one of the LOTR scenarios - Balin's Tomb:



A close-run thing, the Fellowship prevailed, but were very beaten up by the cave troll, and Merry fell to a goblin's dagger...

Always nice to see the minis in action!

I've made a bit more titan progress - Got both the weapon arms painted up:



Here's a pic of the carapace - As you can see I need to do a certain amount of GS filling around the front, as I printed it in 3 parts and some of the edges didn't come out perfectly.

The final 2 Orcs are done - Snaga and Grishnákh!

Ready to eat any spare Hobbit legs that might be going - "Oooh, they look tasty!".



Pleased with these - The detailed resin casts make it much easier to get a good effect on the face than the slightly lumpy old plastic sculpts

Faces look particularly good dude.

Those orcs are fantastic, definitely nailed the faces!

Great job on the Orcs - they're very scary!

The leather on the two Defenders of Helm's Deep looks really great.

Got the legs finished and glued to the pelvis, so it's much more stable now. Will add some transfers to the empty leg panel at the end.

I managed to get the Warhound head done over the weekend. Who needs a body or arms when you've got BIG STOMPY FEET?

to be fair I'd be terrified if that charged at me on a battlefield.

Nice triumvirate of Theodan King, gotta agree with the others that the horse is really well done. The big door pattern warhound looks cool too!

These are mostly 3d printed, except the heads, torsos and shoulder pads.

Ooh. Beautiful fuselages.

Those jet bikes printed out and painted up very nicely! The spray of dirt at the front and on their feet adds a good bit of dynamism!

Somewhat inspired by the Titans that originally fired my imagination in White Dwarf 108, with the Fire Wasps emblem proudly displayed, and "camouflage" of a sort on the carapace

I managed to get going by splitting up my 18 Warg Riders into smaller chunks - 6 of them are now done!



Not great models, these ones are a mix of various eBay lots with bad gluing, thick paint, mould lines galore etc, but they are done.

The warg riders are nice as well, the fur is really well done.

Played my first couple of games of 10th edition 40k recently, still a bit on the fence, but in the process I found these unpainted bits hiding in my terrain boxes, so slapped some paint on:

Both the leg and crane are very saucy indeed. The tractor unit is very cool.

Can't remember how many points I awarded myself, but it was a few, yes

As promised, here's a Reaver bottom! There will be some pipes between the leg and pelvis, but I will add those once I glue the pelvis to the legs which I won't do until I have the torso ready and I can be sure the angle is correct...

I should check if there's updated firmawre for my Ender 3 probably, or at least look into later versions of the slicer, but I am worried about messing with it

I have been short on painting mojo again so far this year, but I have managed to finish off this squad of Alpha Legion Headhunters that were sitting there half done taunting me...



Not sure about all the gold on a supposedly sneaky unit, but I had originally painted all those bits a scaly green, and it just merged into the base blue too much...

They look brilliant. Love the contrast of the blue armour and red dirt and I think the gold is a good fit - palette wise if not sneaky sneak wise. But really, how sneaky can a 12 ft tall walking tank ever actually be....?
