today a got the chance to peek into the new armybook, I didn't see or read very much, but I want to share it. -the units stay mostly the same. Squighoppas are now a single skirmisher unit with the possibiltiy to add a huge Squig. -there are a lot of special Characters. no more Wurzag, but Grimgor is still in it, as well as Azhag, Grom, Gorbag Ironfist (totaly awsome model) and of course Skarsnikt and Gobbla (that Squig is fraggin BIG!) -didn't see any changes on the giant well, I'm almost sad I selled most of my Fantasy greenskins, but on the other hand, I play almost no WFB and I have a few ideas for some of me Ogres aarrrr...(if you get the drift)

"huge squig" is not a unit upgrade, but a 3W ride for your nightgoblin big bosses.
Overall I think the new O&G army book is a nerf (goblins, orc bosses, and big'uns more expensive, chariots no longer 2-for-1, for example).

That's what it sounds like. It's frustrating that they make goblins much more playable by putting them in the basic army set, and then they totally nerf them. A 50% point hike, plus they can't take extra heroes anymore, and there was something else but I don't remember what it is now. Were goblins that broken in 6th edition that they needed to be powered down?

I just read the book last night. At first glance it does look like a nerf, as almost every single unit when up in cost, but the basic orc got so much better, and the V7 rules are very favorable to greenskins, so I'm not concerned. I can't wait to see the look on people's faces when the realize fanatics actually got nastier.

Were goblins that broken in 6th edition that they needed to be powered down? not at all broken, but hugely popular (at least in my area). everyone plays the all goblin army, becasue its loads more fun and just as effective as a balanced O&G. 12 fanatics on the table and 20 squigs bouncing wildly around was pure gold.

There are so many things I want to try with the new O and G army. Savage orc hero in a chariot. Doesn't use up a special slot, boars are frenzied! Up to 8 orc chariots and 4 pumpwagons in one army! Fanatics that have the potential to hit people for 2d6 each when they charge you. (3d6 if you buy magicmushrooms) An army that has 7 dispell dice with only a level 1 gobbo wizard Hero on a giant squig is a must to model, as is a hero on a giant spider. Skarsnik and gobbla! They come on one base, with 6 wounds. 4 attacks each, and gobbla has killing blow on his. Plus the lovely goodness of skarsnik throwing around stre6, no armor save, lightning bolts. Black orc heros not taking an extra slot. Waagh! coming once a game, and watching your whole army surge forward at the enemy as their eyes pop out. I'm liking the new book.

Hey All,
To those who have seen the book, I was wondering if an all Cavalry Orc army possible?? I know that Boar Boyz are Special Units, but would it be viable for Goblin wolf riders to hold the core choices and fill in the rest with Boar boyz and Chariots?? I assume that the alt list in the back of the current codex have been removed.
Also what about Gorbad IronClaw?? (or fist??) what's he like?? I have seen the model and It's one of the reason I am contemplating an O&G cav list, if it's viable.
Thanks for any insight

You can take wulfboyz and spiderriders as core, then add in some units of boarboyz or chariots as special. Characters can be mounted on boars/wulfs/spiders, or ride in a chariot(not a special choice anymore, just paid for and added to the character). So you could essentially do something like 4 units of boar boyz, a warlord on a boar, 3 bigbosses in chariots, 4 pumpwagons, and the rest of the points spent on wulf and spider riders.

Fanatics better ???
They are now S5 armourpiercing so those 1+ sv khornate chosenhave a 50% change to survive They can be tackled in CC (although still doing 2d6 S5 armourpiercing hits) They went up in cost ------------------------------------------------------------ Still, apart from the squigherds its the only effective thing my all nightgoblin army has against the armour boyz.

The FLGS received the new White Dwarf yesterday. Here is some info from it:
- Choppas: +1 Strength bonus in first round of combat not just charging. Counts as a hand weapon so get armor save bonus now. No mention of losing the bonus with another hand weapon
- Big Waagh is for Orcs and is more pounding and smashing; Little Waagh is for Goblins and is more cunning and movement
- Animosity is different; one roll, 1 squable, 6 Go get 'em!
- Orc Warbass can sound Waagh! once per game; gives units more likely chance to roll Go get 'em on animosity dice; Orcs better than Goblins
- Squig Hoppers are a skirmisher unit that gets 3d6" movement
- Black Orcs come with two hand weapons and great weapons and can use whichever for the situation
- Stone Trolls go up by 5 pts. but get Scaly Skin 5+
- Spider Riders will have option of bows
- Net teams are a unit upgrade; when used, enemy in close combat get -1 to Strength of hit
- Apparently, night goblin lord/hero/champions? will be able to ride giant squig.
- Arrer boyz are cheaper; 6 pts. per Orc
- Special Characters: Grimgor Ironhide, Azhag, Grom, Gorbad Ironclaw, Skarsnik
There was some mention of magic items too. Very nice article. Can't wait for the new army book!

Fanatics inflict D6 S5 armour piercing hits (-3 to armour save). Better get a lot of 2base Snotling units and Wolf Riders for re-directing, or those Bretonnians and all-cav Chaos/HE are just going to run straight through you. Anyway, I read through the book too, and I found it really bland. The basic Orc stands out as ridiculously underpriced (5P for a S4 T4 model in the first round of combat) and all the rest of the stuff is pretty standard or actually overpriced. The spell lists are nice, but there are no good arcane items at all to boost the magic phase like there was before, and together with the new miscasts and dice rules the Ork magic won't be very feared. I think the Orc magic will still be used a lot, but the Savage Orc/Night Goblin SAFH army with tons of warmachines is practically dead. Goblin chariots are absolute garbage now, as they take an entire special slot and fear Elves, and Waaagh will make all your warmachine crews run from their weapons. All in all the army is a lot weaker (read: balanced) in tournaments as before, but will look a lot funnier considering everyone will have a couple big blocks of Orcs. Considering you need ranks of 5 now and Orcs are on large bases, the units will be humongous. If you focus the list on Orcs and use magic and the Waaagh special rule to get them into combat you have something good going on, but all infantry lists have one thing in common, combined cav/chariot charges punch through them like the Orcs were never there.

They can with the spell Waaagh, which is what I was talking about all along. Please pay attention. Unlike before, lots of magic and lots of wamarchines don't mix very well, especially as it can't be supported by 4-6 dirt cheap chariots and Fanatics that ignore armour saves.

Snotlings are no longer unbreakable, forget about all snotlings list (Ld4 stubborn IIRC). They are the cheapest redirecting unit now though, so couple of bases may prove useful, as the minimum size is 2 bases.
Fanatics are better because chargers have to go straight through them now. No longer can you cancel the charge because fanatics are in front of you. Once you declare it, you get hit by all 3.

Posted By Longshot on 09/21/2006 7:33 PM What was it Mauleed was saying about them juicing fanatics? Something about being able to hop them up on mushrooms or whatever? Ed and I were giggling about the increase in fanatics when I got my store copy from GW. Basically, chargers pause, you release the fanatics, if they hit the unit takes the d6 str5 hits, same as it used to be. However, the unit doesn't have the option to stop the charge, they now continue, and go into the other fanatics that may not have hit. If the fanatic runs into you, its place 1" behind your unit, same as before, but if you run over a fanatic, it doesn't move, and if you stopon it, it dies, but does another d6 hits to you. So, its now possible to release the fanatics, roll low on all 3, the charging unit hits them, stops at the NG unit, and if over the fanatics, take another d6 hits from each. Potential for 6d6 hits at str5, -3 on the save. Magic Mushrooms will up that to a possible 9d6.

magic mushrooms now only let you reroll the number of hits, you don't get extra D6 hits anymore =(
Another bonus for the fanatics is that they end up 1" behind the enemy. This means you get an excellent crossfire opportunity if you manage to break the enemy unit on the turn they charge.

So one unit can set them all off.

@Mikhaila: Thanks for the reply Mikhaila! I need to see the book myself, but I heard from another website that units led by black orks have a greater chance of passing the Warboss called Waaagh, if so I was thinking about putting Black Orcs on boars and put them in Boar boyz units. I am hesitant about chariots, because I heard that they do not surge forward during a Warboss called waaagh! Is that true?? So yes, I was thinking about Mounted Boss', Wolf Boyz for Core and Boar boyz for the special choices. Thanks again. Chappy P....Soon to become the Warboss of the Plains Orcs!!

Does anybody know if they'll be making a mini for a night goblin riding a huge squig? If not I guess you could convert one out of gobbla. He's pretty huge. Maybe veteran greenskin players can answer this for me- couldn't O&G field ogres in previous editions? I remember them having ogres, but they aren't in the army list anymore. I'm trying to remember back to when I played against Moopy's orcs, but I don't know if he had ogres or not. I think he had trolls. I could always field DoW OK ogres of course, but I thought they were actually in the list before.
