Well if you haven't already seen the news...

basically with this change approaching in the future I thought it'd be good to discuss what you feel have been the best bits of dakka over the past 10 years without clogging up the other thread.

I remember coming across Dakka quite randomly, it turns out almost 8 years ago and lurking away, before finally making an account to comment on rumours of necrons getting an army list (man that makes me feel old) From there Dakka became the site I visited every day. Even today it is the first site i check after my email despite the fact I've fallen into being abit of a lurker.

I guess my best memory of dakka was the friendships I feel i've made, I even ended up being a part of the OT crew when we took over the 40k collecting card game part of the forum (the thread titles still make me giggle)

So again- a huge thankyou to Russ for this great place for the hobby and friendships

How about everyone else? Best bits?

My best memory from this site was reading the battle report where Mauleed got snapped by Jts' 3rd Ed Tau. That has always stayed in my mind as potentially the best battle report I have ever read. No offence Mauleed, but being a Tau player at the time seeing the Tau beat the best Marine player on Dakka was something to behold.

This one time people were frequently asking the Space Emperor Questions about like shooting psycannons at turbo-boosting bikes or which units could ride in drop pods.

The Space Emperor told everyone to watch his website and he would answer them. But as time went on there were no answers, just price increaces.

Meanwhile Mr. Warmachine was answering questions left right and center. So more and more poeple were listening to Mr. Warmachine.

So when the Space Emperor got around to answering the questions no one cared anymore.

This made the Space Emperor very (x2) sad so he raised prices some more.

LOL  I was going to post that as one of my favorites.  All I remember is mis-reading his post and feeling sorry for the man.  Somehow, I read that some guy was grabbing himself and putting his man-meat on the table and thinking, "What in the world is going on at that game store???"  But, Maul, in his own twisted way, corrected me.

Penguin-Dude and Fatbloke.  Nuff said. (is P-Dude still out there?  anyone heard from the man?)

When I first got into 40K, I was looking for any info I could gather and found this and was told to stay away from the Eye Of Terror.  So I did and be came a Dakka-cynic.  I wear that one with pride.

The humor that led to the OT zone in the first place. From Craig Gallants post regarding communism in the miniatures world, to Task's GW bobblehead Gifs.

the monster just grew from there.

I love 40K, but things such as that cemented my loyalty to a place that looked on the occasional humor such as that with a good eye.

That is, until it grew out of control, and O.B.GYN Phanobi had to take matters into his own hands.

Yoor Speeshawl too Gawd!

Drew Riggio whining, Snord posting, Bugswarm being Dakka's ancient primordial magma troll whose every post caused someone to burst into white hot flames, the OT cowboys finally getting busted in the CCG section after a 6 month reign of terror, Migs, Insaniak, and Barph showing off their latest projects. I also have to mention PD making fat bloke implode and throw a fit on that other site for daring to not perform fellatio on him.

Barph's phenomenal modelling projects.

Snord's Orks, both the models and the tactics articles.

Clouseau's awesome Pink Panther Space Marines, and his disappearing with peoples' money.

Drew flying off the handle, utterly convinced GW was out to screw him because of how they painted the Iron Hands' bolters for their Index Astartes article.

No offense taken. That was great fun, even if it was at my expense.

JTS has long since given up the hobby, but he was the person that convinced me to try a GT. My only consolation was that every time we both entered the same GT, I placed higher, even with soft scores.

Hmmm, a lot of the good ones have been taken, so I'll go for Kironor Dread or the Forgeworld river sections (though my initial thought was JTS' win over Ed Maule).

That green net board sucked even worse than this one.

I expected more replies to this thread, seems that there really is no-one left from back then.

Clouseau disappeared with people's money? Yikes.

The reverse Q&A thread was pretty fun too. For a while.

Best memory of Dakka? Mountain Drew and his Mini-Me Ed Maule, Snord before he became a reknowned pit fighter in Kowloon Walled City, Task and Bugswarm fighting like wet cats trapped in a burlap sack, the cross-dresser Daemon Lord Angron, MangaMonkey and Jojo, Dakka's two monkeys, That one time I told my therapist that I was going nuts because I thought Kid Kyoto and Abadabadoobaddon were the same person but couldn't prove it, and Malfred. Always Malfred.

Thanks for the memories, Dakka.
