How did these people get the rights to do these?

Also what scale are they? From the ones I've seen they look fairly shoddy. The sculpts are great and the casts not so nice.

Where can you buy them online only I suppose?

And yes thems r very very big feet Pa!

How did these people get the rights to do these?

They didn't.

They keep the sculpts and names generic enough to try to claim that they're a seperate product that just happens to have a vague similarity to some Warhammer 40K background material...

You can bet when this guy goes on eBay, he won't be called 'Leman Russ'... He'll be 'The Wolf Lord' or somesuch thing.

Aye, those are some big, er, boots no old Russtifer there

I liked elements of the Plague Lord (or whatever """Mortarion""" was called) and thought about basing a conversion on him, but the $$$$$$$$ involved was too much for me. Guess they're going for the 'fewer casts = higher price' way of making green.

I think the feet look big because of the angle of the photo.

But so far, that thing looks pretty awesome. although i always pictured the Russ in more of a i'm pissed off about to hack you in two pose.

Can't complain though, that model is pretty fantastic.

I bought some "official" GW stuff from one of ronin's MANY different ebay aliases.
They were horrible miscast copies and when I contacted him about it he said "they're official I cannot replace any problems."

Realize with his auctions he takes 1 photo for all of the tons of items he lists. Don't expect your items to be near the quality they appear.

I once baught a dvd off ebay, necronomicon, when i recieved it all i got was a blank disc in a see through plastic case and i payed 10.00 for it, i wasnt happy i mean they gave me a blank disc lol not even a movie on it. The leman russ model is supposedly larger than previous ronin minis but smaller than magnus. This is just rumour though cant be 100% sure.

Oh has anyone seen this model before, roboute gulliman i believe he is a recast of a scibor sculpt, i believe he might be same guy responsible for those recast limited minis

I would be really wary of buying one of these off of E-Bay.

I "bought" (if you could call it that) another Ronin miniature off of one of the regular "sellers" and was quite disappointed.

Of course, you must understand that in this context 'bought' means "throwing my money out of the window by purchasing only the dream of getting the miniature that I wanted" and 'sellers' means "someone who takes your money and does not provide the item purchased."

If they are willing to violate GW's copyright, they are willing to steal money out of your pocket.

I have also run into problems with buying a ronin mini on ebay, i baught magnus, 6 weeks later hes still not arived in the post.

So by extension, you're willing to help someone steal money out of someone else's pocket?

The model is called the Odin Knight and will probably be availible in early september. I have dealt with the Ronin company many times and I have not yet had a problem.

I (as an ebay seller) would encourage anyone who did have a ebay problem to use the systems that ebay has in place to resolve it and spread the word about the bad seller and scams. There will always be dishonest folks out there - but I do not believe the Ronin company is one of them.

Because I like the models I don't like threads like this that draw loads of attention. Which may eventually lead the company to too much exposure.

Given the number of their Not-The-Emperor and Not-Sanguinius models that have been sold on eBay, I'd be very surprised if GW wasn't already fully aware of them.

Whether or not they actually do anything about it (some countries have amore relaxed view of IP laws than others) is another matter entirely.

Edit: Were Ronin the mob selling the Custodians and Jetbike Autarch? I know that whoever that was received a cease and desist from GW...

So if they're the same guys, they would appear to have managed to stay on the 'ok' side of the line with the Primarchs so far...

Gorkel if this is the case why are you advertising their product? This company sounds dodgy to me.

Is there any other way that you can buy from them direct? Also was the ebay store Ronin owned or was it just someone else selling on Ronin product?

no ronins not velard, and going on the custodians in my possesion (not that ive bought any such materials) the sculpting and casting seems far superior to this and in the case of the termie custodian on a par with FW stuff of a similar ilke. just a shame he got the cease and desist!

I've got the Winged Knight and Samael models from Ronin direct - both arrived no worries at all, and both are excellent casts. From what I see and hear, it's who you deal with that matters on eBay, as all the sellers are not the same people,  but just with different aliases.

The Roboute Gulliman mini was originally Velard's sculpt (who's a Russian), and then funnily enough...voila, here it is, being supplied from Spain! Now, THAT's suspicious...

Cheers,

Padre^.

Gulliman is a scibor sculpt, im very sure of this. Any chance of seeing some pics of those custodians? I have all of ronins minis thus far. But its who you deal with on ebay when buying them be very careful of sellers with few feedback.

Gorkel,

Are you sure about RG being a Scibor sculpt ? I first saw it (with WIP shots) on

http://velard.hosting.2com.ru/index.html

Is there some interconnection there that I don't know about - eg could Velard be supplying them as well, or is it the same bloke ?

Nice model, no matter whose or where!

I know for a fact that Velard is the one who produces Ronin minis. I also have seen the greens you speak of on that site.

Now as to the Scibor/Ronin relationship, I would hazard to guess that Scibor was contracted to produce the mini, and Ronin replicated it.

Scibor makes tons of custom minis for personal use. But a entity such as Velard/Ronin could be spurious enough to take that green and produce them himself.

This very same ???????? was the one who created that Autarch jetbike casting....very piss poor casting as well if I might add.

its quite obvious that Velard is running an operation that is definitely below the board. Why do you think it doesnt keep the greens up for what they have produced in the past? I have seen the autarch jetbike, primarchs greens on this site. They are removed to cover their tracks.

With as much garbage as is coming out of the Russian Commonwealth nowadays, I wouldnt be surprised if they become the next China for crap knockoffs of products.

If your willing to buy products from those spurious enough to capitalize on someone elses IP, be prepared to be ripped off as well. If Asia may be beyond the reach of international IP protection, then it is definitely beyond the reach of any modicum of buyer protection as well.

I personally hope they get their asses busted one of these days.

Thanks for that, Hellfury. I though that was the case with those models.

With all due respect to your opinion, I find it ironic to think of GW being "ripped off" when it comes to IP. eg. Space Marines being straight from Heinlein's "Starship Troopers" or Aliens, Necrons coming straight out of Terminator or Star Trek's Borg, Tau vehicles being Manga-inspired and definitely similar to those seen in Star Wars "Phantom Menace", etc etc etc.

And as for WHFB and every fantasy archetype that there is (Tolkien, anyone ?)

However, laws are laws, and as you put it, let the buyer beware!

Cheers,

Padre^.

PS Still want one of those "Emperor" models, though!

Oh I agree with you there. Undoubtedly.

But alot of our hardearned cash goes to their IP legal department.

I'd hate to see them raise prices and use this as an excuse to do so.

I may be speaking on GW's defense right now, but I still wouldnt put anything past GW. That company is more full of excuses than a 6 year old child.

No one should joke about Scribor sculpting anything professionally. I shudder when I see the slowed reviews he gets on CMoN. Poor composition, horribly stupid use of press casting (WHY?!? originally I guess they made sense in a cute way, but now it's just tacked on crap to make it look scribor like). Oh, and he doesn't clean up mold lines, bother sculpting anatomically correct muscles.... Grrr. He's so freaking amateur. I don't mind that- I'm by definition an amateur, but I don't pretend to be a professional.
