Hey, was just wondering, when and where will the pictures of all the entries be available? I'm quite anxious ^^;;

That's being worked on as we speak. I'd start checking the website toward the end of the week (lots of work to chug through!).

Chris

**Edit** Let's make it a bit safer and say the end of next week. Don't want to dig too much of a hole for the guys putting it on the web.

I saw the slayer sword winning model, and I must say, its the best model I've ever seen. Too bad I didn't have a camera.

There was some nice stuff. I didn't take any images, expecting I'd see them later. I was most impressed with WHFB stuff this year, even though I am a 40K guy.

The ability behind that model is amazing, but it's way too busy for my taste. It looks like a Mardi Gras float.

Another thing that bothers me a lot also, apart from ridiculous and messy freehands, is the poor blending... check the armour details like the feet... theres no blending whatsoever.

not seeing it in person i'm sure you can't appreciate it to it's full extent.

When you say there's no blending are you referring to the
incredibly BLENDED Latin script that's on there...

That's because it's Vallejo Gunmetal Blue with a wash over it (Pretty sure).

The cloak is impressive but if my Inquisitor dressed like this I would be more worried about dropping the soap than blaspheming the Emperor.

The scroll on the servo is incredible. That servo is pretty damn small...

/What sword is that?

hahaha, that is comedy! too drop the soap is to invite the emperor´s wraith! now prepare for retribution!

the skill is incredible, the the end result as everyone else has said seems in this picture to be a little too much.

He collects robes taken from dubious hotels throughout the Imperium.

SO I'M GONNA TAKE A STAR OFF!"

EDIT: Judging from his servo-skull he also collects pritty toilet paper.

I have to agree.

Bennet has taken this model several times to Tower games here in Minneapolis to show off his work in progress on the model and it is a very gorgeous model when seen in person. In particular, there is a lion head on the models left robe corner that is exceedingly well done.

Not to mention, Bennet has painting speed that would make Migsula howl to the night with envy.

The picture, quite frankly, does this model absolutely no justice whatsoever. But then again, thats quite true with most models.

It may seem busy, but I think it really well represents the very rich silks an inquisitor would wear to show the citizenry his status. without flashing his Inquisitorial Rosette.

One question to those who went to Baltimore. Did Bennet enter his Samurai Cadian?

I havent talked to him in a month and am not sure if it was entered there like he had planned.

I think it looks great. I'll never figure out how people can get such teeny fine lines with a brush. I use the smallest brushes I can find and I still can't do lettering like what's on the hood, or the scroll unless I use a super fine technical pen

@necros: the fine letterin' on the hood is sculpted detail, so it's not as hard as it may seem...just use the side of the tip instead of the point, and drag it across the raised detail...
for fine letterin' on a flat surface, it's all about the consistency of the paint...takes some trial and error to get it just right, not too thick, not too thin...also, don't be afraid to mess up a bit, and use the base color to tighten up your detail...
patience and practice grasshopper...

i can appreciate the huge amount of work that went into this mini, but it is way too busy for my taste...the same has been said by 2/3 of the people respondin' on a few different forums...different strokes for different folks i guess...

cheers

Nice example of painting prowess... but way too busy.

It's not until the 4th time I looked at that pic that I noticed (just now) that he's carrying an auspex. It's just lost into the rest of the.... stuff.

It is a work of art, though, just not one that pleases my taste.

The talent required for this kind of work is immense, my commentary was an attempt at humor rather than mocking the painter's skill. It may not have been a miniature I'd pick for Slayer Sword winner (like so many said, he looks too busy... if he was Inquisitor scale things would be different), but I'd still like to check out the rest of his collection.

OOO, this is what it was.... Something really strange happened. I saw this model, but I think it was in single Fantasy category but then.. it somehow disappeared and I thought that they disqualified it or something... Now, it seems that they put it in a wrong category. Why didn't he entered it into Open. The category was so weak that he would definitely won there.

I have very few pictures in my Blog

If this model was any less busy, I don't think it would have won the GD. At the GD level of compitition you have to grab the judges eye. And this Fig clearly did, Kudos to the painter. His color palet was right on. His skill with a brush is wicked. I look forward to seeing more of his work.

Don't you diss Joseph and his technicolor nightmare coat!

I tend to agree, though. Amazing figure. But very, very busy.

The free hand does not bother me except for the blending on it. European game days set the standard now days, though I am willing to admit part of my criticism may be poor photography which may make the transitions look much harsher. Outside of that it is very impressive not the least because the amount of effort the person put into it.

parts of it yes and dont forget that one bit of a scrool of a mini is not the full mini.

I agree mate we all know pictures can ruin a miniature, specially overexposed ones ( sometimes some pics do the oposite) I ussually reduce browser window to 40% to make things closer to real deal... and give a big discount to my idea of the mini.

At first I didnt want to be a picky bastard and post all of what I think of this mini but here goes:

This miniature fails in my opinion in several areas.

Concept wise fails because its flooded with freehand just for the sake of it, theres no purpose, focus, idea apart from "lets fill every inch of mini with freehands just because I can" but can he?
I look at it and only see a mesh of blurry patterns.

Tecnique fails in 2 points.
- Blending is not ok on most of the mini, armour mostly... servo armour painting is so harsh it hurts my eyes... of the 90% of freehands i see, its just overlaped colors with no blending.

- Freehands are poor ( except from the face, letter and skull on scrool) all patterns are flat as it gets, if you notice italian school of overthetop freehands all over the place you notice theres colors nuances on freehands this creates volumes on freehands and on mini... nothing of the kind here.

Now with all out of the way i Must say its a awesome miniature with some nice things going for it but not Slayer sword material... one freehand on one scrool does not make this a slayer miniature IMHO.

It hurts my eyes. OTT in extremis. I'll be honest, I really don't like it, as others have said, the blending is poor. Look at the french slayer sword winner (any bloody year), then look at this. Cry for not being french.

Opinions are like arseholes. Everyone's got one and they all stink.

Gold Duel
???

Silver Duel

Quite neat, though a bit bizarre posing from this angle anyway. The big ork thing is hardly reacting to being eviscerated ... Unless that's the point?

Bronze Duel

Nice! Good and spooky, and well executed. Curious if the zombie is tipping the boat at all? Cause he definitely should be.

Just some reposts, would like to see the gold duel category this year ... Thanks for the pics and link!

That zombie-vs-sailor duel is priceless. It's full of detail (a can of worms, the piece of bread, the fish) and is undeniably funny.

The supply does not get to make the demands.
