Under the couch

The new Assault on Black Reach set has opened up a whole boatload of modeling ideas!

First off the rank is a converted Ork Warboss. I thought it would be fun to see how he would look in a jacket and hat.

As always, comments and criticisms welcome.

The coat is swank, I love it. I don't care for the angle on the Power Klaw however. IMHO it would look better turned to the outside at a slight angle rather than in.

Brilliant. Nuff said.

edit: actually could I ask your advice on green stuff tools, at the moment i'm making do with home made ones which work but they're a bitch to clean and that's making it hard to make stuff look flush. Do you use the gw ones?

Great GS work there. He'd make an excellent Badrukk model.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I use a bit of a range of stuff, depending on what I'm trying to do. I have a stainless steel sculpting tool that my fiance bought me a few years back that does the bulk of the work... it actually has three different heads that swap in and out like an exacto blade, but there's one sort of spoon-shaped one that I use most of the time... and generally forget I even have the other two.

For smoothing work I use a clay shaper, which is a sculpting tool with a rubber head. They come in a variety of different shapes depending on what you want to do with them. I use a small conical one, which comes in handy for all sorts of things. Also have a flat head one, but it's on the worktable in the shed somewhere, and so I haven't seen it in months.

I also use a few tools from a soldering tool set (picked up from a discount store for about $2) that have a range of interesting shaped heads with various points and blades and the like. And do a lot of the bulk shaping and detailing when crisp lines are called for with an exacto knife.

Cleaning really just comes down to an 'as you go' sort of deal. Don't let those tiny bits of putty stay on the tools... they'll be harder to clean off when they set, they get in the way at odd times, and they stick to your fingers and wind up back on your work right when it's the most inconvenient...

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass.
