Some useful information for the poster of the now locked 'Wrecking Crew' thread.

Most all clubs or game groups that attend the various circuit events are a random collection of players from any given city or area. It seems reasonable that any such group would bring a wide range of abilities and hobby motivations to the events they attend. I would expect their members to finish 'all over the map' in terms of final results.

About 90% of the Wrecking Crew club is comprised of strong gameplay oriented tournament junkies cobbled together by Marc Parker from all over the country and connected only by a website. With this in mind one would expect Wrecking Crew players to always be at or near the top of any given 40K event relative to the majority of any other more localized group.

Neal Cauley finished first on the circuit and lives in Phoenix, Arizona. I finished second this year and live in Birmingham, Alabama. Marc Parker finished third and lives in Florida. There is no chicanery or behind the scenes drama to it. Wrecking Crew is a nationwide sampling of very strong gamers.

(Hope this helps you Klazimonikus.)

Neil Cauley does not live in Phoenix Az. He's from Minnesota.

Or else he has a long commute to work everyday....

Wrecking Crew reminds me a lot of the old Leadership 10 crew of WFB players in the late 90s - early 2000s

It just goes to show that if you group up with like-minded individuals, you can "solve" most variables within the tournament constraints, in this case, 40k.

I applaud them for the work they put in, but if any other group put the same amount of work, I'm sure they would meet with the same measure of success.

Where I am from in Canada, for a few years we had an ad hoc group that dominated the Eastern Canadian TOurny scene. Yes, we were in a smaller pond, but the same principles apply, just couldnt get off work/afford trips to Baltimore and other US venues to really test our mettle. That and the wife agro it would draw!

But again, Congrats

I think that the WC has been able to adapt to 5th edtion faster. Team toledo is still running the same lists, they have been running for a while.

Come on now skkipper. Don't ruin a perfectly fun and nonsensical series of posts with some sort of competitive/justification/??? "...here's why Mike M. didn't win the circuit..." rubbish.
Yuck!

No one but Team Toledo and a few Wrecking Crew members care in the least how Team Toledo and a few wrecking Crew members do on 'the Circuit'.

Sorry, don't mean to sound harsh. The topic DOES get old.

WC seems to include cheating in its ways to get first places tho, like the ard boys.. Not so impressive, in fact belittles all your other wins. Since you obviously condone of this behaviour I guess its in your repetoire.

Wow Kallbrand. Where do I start?

WC seems to include cheating in its ways to get first places tho, like the ard boys..

Re-read the initial post. WC is a nation wide loose affiliation of gamers most of whom barely know each other. Your statement is not only insulting but also a semantic mess.
You could have said something like:
"It seems from a previous post I read that a WC member may have cheated at the 'aaard Boyz tournament. Hey other WC members is it true? If it is true, which I don't know as I wasn't there, I wonder if this is reflective of the clubs overall approach to gaming. Do you guys endorse and practice cheating?"

You could have said a great many things to start a reasoned conversation or to present yourself able to engage in reasoned discourse. Instead you offer this tripe.

Not so impressive, in fact belittles all your other wins.

If I point this statement at me personally:
My wins are belittled (even if represented under the banner of WC) because of an issue Gareth had at 'aaard boyz? Ridiculous.

If I point this statement at the club as a whole:
In the private forums on the WC website Marc always stresses that we keep our noses clean, so to speak. WC members win and place high at lots of tournaments. It speaks more volumes than whatever happened in this one incident that for all the winning WC members do we get lots of great feedback from the people we play. You will rarely, if ever, see a post like the one currently circulating.

Since you obviously condone of this behaviour I guess its in your repetoire.

Shooting wildly from the hip in argument just makes a mess and you will seldom hit your target. This statement is unfounded and unsupported both personally and globally. Where do you draw your all inclusive "...obviously..." from? Please show me any where I have ever condoned or endorsed cheating. Same for Marc, Neal, etc.

If the poor tone and intent of your argument is due to a lack of command of the English language then be a little more careful if you are going to present your thoughts in English. If the poor tone and intent of your argument is due to your own emotional and/or developmental shortcomings then evolve.

If anyone thinks WC are cheaters come to Tampa and play me. If you win and agree I play fair I will pay your travel costs to kick me arse.

Brian I have been real busy with work but have got my BA ironed out and had some solid success with them on the local area. I think I will skip Necro next year to try a different venue such as the Big Waaaagh.

Hmmm....have you played any of the WC before Kallbrand? It's not just Overall's that belong to them - but several Best Sportsman (I've got two myself), think Scott has one or two, Marc has a couple, Kenny has one - maybe more. That goes along with best generals....

We just suck at painting......no best armies or players choice that I know of.....

Err...if someone accuses you of tourney collusion I don't think pointing out best sportsmen scores is really a plus. I mean, of all the scores to rig that'd be about the easiest, right?

Colluders give other colluders max soft scores, give any non-colluders average soft scores (or low, if they look like they might get best whatever). Ta-da, best soft scores are colluders a disproportionate amount of the time. That's just with participants. Typically, collusion allegations encompass tournament organizers, which renders the excercise trivial.

I doubt the "W.C. is evil anti-competative tournament riggers" theory though. I mean, what's their payoff imagined to be? Product? They are adults with jobs, buy any product they want. Prestige? The only prestige that they'd care about would be among their own circle, and this sort of scheme would undermine it.

I think they are just, as scotts explains, a self-selecting group of hardcore tournament players. Such a group ought to win most of the time, as they do. It'd be miraculous if a group that played as much as they do didn't annoy at least one person with access to a message board.

For my .02, its always good to draw a WC, means you've got a tough game coming up, and the # of tough games you get vs. strangers is the real metric of how well you do at a tournament.

All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

Hmmm....so now we are cheating colluders....

It amazes me how people will attack and shoot down others accomplishments.......always a reason why it's not them.....the other guy must be cheating, buying high scores....it's all rigged.....otherwise it would mean that it's me.....and my fragile ego and sense of self worth can't handle that.

Sorry to "wreck" the conspiracy theory....but it's probably because we are just a bunch of guys that enjoy the hobby....have fun playing.....and are at least average to good players. I personally go out of my way to give most people I play a break (unless they are a jerk or uber-competitive) - have lost tournament games by reminding my opponent to move something he forgot......I revel in the amazing numbers of 1's I can roll at times....and at then end have far more games where my opponent and I are discussing the fund game we had and how close it was....or if they got clobbered, how that happens sometimes - than where we both sulk off thinking hateful thoughts about each other. Most of my opponents tend to max me on sportsmanship - as I do them. Not because of collusion - but because we met - had a fun game - and often made a new friend.

Then Marc Parker has done the best considering he played Greg Sparks, Mike Mutcheller, Scott Simpson, and the Nid player who took 3rd Justin Cook. By strength of schedule, that must be the hardest selection of top players for any one person in the GTs.

Comparing tournament records is another form of e-peen measuring.
